- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Today we're doing something new — colors again, but different ones. Lucas: Right. Last time we did blue and white. Then yellow and green before that. So today — black and red. Luna: Ooh, classic combo. My favorite shirt is black and red. Lucas: Nice. Okay, let's start with black. In Malay, black is hitam. Hitam. Luna: Hitam. Hitam. Lucas: Good. Now red is merah. Merah. Luna: Merah. Merah. That one feels a bit easier. Lucas: It's got a nice flow. Now let's put them in sentences. 'The cat is black' — Kucing itu hitam. Kucing itu hitam. Luna: Kucing itu hitam. That sounds like what we did with yellow and green — 'Pisang itu kuning'. Lucas: Exactly the same pattern. Just swap the color. So 'The flower is red' — Bunga itu merah. Bunga itu merah. Luna: Bunga itu merah. Bunga — flower. Merah — red. Got it. Lucas: Let's practice. I'll say an English sentence, you say it in Malay. Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: The cat is black. Luna: Kucing itu hitam. Lucas: Perfect. The flower is red. Luna: Bunga itu merah. Lucas: Yes! Now let's switch it up. What if you see a black car? Kereta itu hitam. Luna: Kereta itu hitam. Car is kereta. Lucas: Right. And a red shirt? Baju itu merah. Luna: Baju itu merah. My red shirt is baju merah. Lucas: Exactly. Now, you know what's fun? At the market, you might see red chilies. Cili merah. Luna: Cili merah. And black pepper? Lada hitam. Lucas: Yes! Lada hitam. You're picking it up fast. Luna: So hitam and merah are easy to remember if you just think of black cat and red flower. Lucas: That's a good trick. Let's do a quick review. I'll say the color in English, you say it in Malay. Luna: Okay. Lucas: Black. Luna: Hitam. Lucas: Red. Luna: Merah. Lucas: Now the sentences. The cat is black. Luna: Kucing itu hitam.
