- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, what's happened? Everybody?
- 0:11Speaker 2: Welcome into another edition of the check o'daly. It's Andrew
- 0:14Speaker 2: de Checko, Eagles beat reporter for insidethbirds dot Com and
- 0:18Speaker 2: the Eagles in the aftermath of winning the NFC East
- 0:23Speaker 2: for the second consecutive year, the first time an NFC
- 0:26Speaker 2: East team has accomplished such a feat in twenty one years.
- 0:30Speaker 2: There's a lot more to unpack. I gave you guys
- 0:33Speaker 2: my immediate takeaways from the game. Now, I was not
- 0:36Speaker 2: at Northwest Stadium, so there were certain things that you know,
- 0:42Speaker 2: Nick Sirianni had to say, or maybe some players based
- 0:45Speaker 2: on the interviews that were aired, that I kind of
- 0:47Speaker 2: wanted to unpack now that we have more information to
- 0:49Speaker 2: go off of and for you know, you talk about
- 0:54Speaker 2: the success that the Eagles have had under Nick Sirianni,
- 0:58Speaker 2: and I want to just high like this for a moment,
- 1:01Speaker 2: because the Eagles are going to the postseason for the
- 1:04Speaker 2: fifth consecutive season, all five years under Nick Sirianni. That
- 1:09Speaker 2: is remarkable and I don't think it's something that should
- 1:12Speaker 2: be taken for granted. Now you look at what they're
- 1:14Speaker 2: able to do in terms of winning the NFC East,
- 1:17Speaker 2: back to back years. For perspective, they haven't done that
- 1:20Speaker 2: since two thousand and four, where they're on that run
- 1:23Speaker 2: from one to four under Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb,
- 1:26Speaker 2: Brian Dawkins, Jeremiah Trotter for some of that. And I
- 1:31Speaker 2: just think that that's something that shouldn't be sort of
- 1:34Speaker 2: glossed over. This is a golden age of Eagles football
- 1:38Speaker 2: and it should be it should be viewed as such.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I know that there's plenty of scrutiny the Nick Sirianni
- 1:44Speaker 2: falls under from the outside, and you can poke in
- 1:47Speaker 2: prode and say that this isn't the Eagles team that
- 1:52Speaker 2: you expected when the season started. Look at what they've
- 1:55Speaker 2: accomplished and just take a second to appreciate that, and
- 2:00Speaker 2: you may not see this run of dominance for a
- 2:05Speaker 2: long while. And I just laid out the numbers. This
- 2:08Speaker 2: is the first time in twenty one years where there
- 2:10Speaker 2: has been a back to back NFC East champion and
- 2:14Speaker 2: that is your Philadelphia Eagles. And I think what Nick
- 2:20Speaker 2: Sirianni is able to do, and I don't think I
- 2:22Speaker 2: know from covering the team on a daily basis that
- 2:25Speaker 2: he has his team ready to play each and every week.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Resident his message is fresh, it resonates in the locker room,
- 2:33Speaker 2: and it's very difficult to have a message that resonates
- 2:37Speaker 2: with all players there. But if you look at what
- 2:40Speaker 2: they're able to do in terms of being ready to
- 2:42Speaker 2: play each and every week, they are playing their best
- 2:45Speaker 2: football late in the season. With the exception of twenty
- 2:48Speaker 2: twenty three, you can say that every season under Nick Sirianni,
- 2:52Speaker 2: the Eagles have started to really get things in order
- 2:56Speaker 2: and start to play their best football down the stretch,
- 2:58Speaker 2: which is what you want to see. You look at
- 3:00Speaker 2: the NFC East and there aren't any dominant teams, right
- 3:04Speaker 2: I mean the Chicago Bears winning last night when it
- 3:07Speaker 2: looked like the Green Bay Packers had it well at hand.
- 3:11Speaker 2: The Chicago Bears are a solid football team, but there's
- 3:14Speaker 2: certainly one that can be beaten, and I would imagine
- 3:17Speaker 2: that if the Eagles were to play the Bears at
- 3:19Speaker 2: some point in the postseason. There's a lot that has
- 3:22Speaker 2: to be determined between now and then, but I feel
- 3:25Speaker 2: pretty comfortable saying that they're not going to rush for
- 3:27Speaker 2: two hundred and eighty one yards or anything close to
- 3:29Speaker 2: that the next time they.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Face each other.
- 3:32Speaker 2: If they face each other again, because Vic Fangio will
- 3:35Speaker 2: take drastic measures to ensure that that doesn't happen, and
- 3:39Speaker 2: the approach will be to have Caleb Williams beat them
- 3:43Speaker 2: with his arm. The Green Bay Packers are a flawed
- 3:46Speaker 2: football team. The San Francisco forty nine ers. They don't
- 3:50Speaker 2: have Fred Warner or Nick Bosa. Nick Bosa is one
- 3:53Speaker 2: of the best pass rushers in the NFL. Fred Warner
- 3:55Speaker 2: is the best off ball linebacker in the NFL. Those
- 3:58Speaker 2: are two huge laws that directly impact their defense. And
- 4:04Speaker 2: I don't know how you all feel about Brock Purdy
- 4:08Speaker 2: or even Mac Jones. I think Mac Jones is the
- 4:10Speaker 2: better of the two quarterbacks and he's not even starting.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Then you look at the Seattle Seahawks and the Rams.
- 4:18Speaker 2: The Eagles have had a lot of success under Nick Sirianni,
- 4:20Speaker 2: facing Sean McVay and coaches of that ilk in that tree,
- 4:24Speaker 2: Matt Lafour being another one, and the Rams and the
- 4:28Speaker 2: Seahawks both got exploited defensively. I think the Rams cornerback
- 4:31Speaker 2: and their secondary situation is starting to get a little
- 4:34Speaker 2: bit exploited a little bit.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I think that's fair to say.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Josh Job former Eagles corner was victimized by Pukinakua, and
- 4:42Speaker 2: I would imagine the teams are going to continue to
- 4:45Speaker 2: lean into that and try to take advantage of their secondaries.
- 4:49Speaker 1: They're not a team that is without imperfection.
- 4:52Speaker 2: So as you can see, as I sort of try
- 4:54Speaker 2: to make sense of this whole NFC playoff picture, there's
- 4:58Speaker 2: not a dominant team out there, and I think when
- 5:01Speaker 2: all things being equal, you tend to lean in favor
- 5:04Speaker 2: of the demonstrated performance of the Philadelphia Eagles and the
- 5:09Speaker 2: experience that they have in the postseason, and you have
- 5:11Speaker 2: to feel pretty good about it. It seems like the
- 5:14Speaker 2: NFC is pretty wide open, and if the Eagles can
- 5:16Speaker 2: continue playing their best football, well I think that the
- 5:20Speaker 2: sky's the limit and that could take them far. Now,
- 5:24Speaker 2: the last two games were against the Raiders and the Commanders,
- 5:28Speaker 2: but it drives me nuts when I hear, well, it
- 5:32Speaker 2: was just the Raiders, Okay, Well, the Eagles did what
- 5:35Speaker 2: they were supposed to do, win in emphatic fashion against
- 5:40Speaker 2: an inferior team. They beat them thirty one to zero.
- 5:42Speaker 2: It wasn't a twenty three to twenty affair. I think
- 5:44Speaker 2: we'd all be having a different conversation had it been,
- 5:48Speaker 2: but they did what they were supposed to do against
- 5:50Speaker 2: an opponent of that stature, the Commanders. It wasn't pretty
- 5:53Speaker 2: early on in that game, but they found a way
- 5:56Speaker 2: to really ramp things up in the second half. Obviously,
- 5:59Speaker 2: Marcus Mariota leaving that game injured played a big part
- 6:02Speaker 2: in it, but it really showcased the resilience of this
- 6:05Speaker 2: football team. Things started to click, and you would like
- 6:08Speaker 2: to see that happen a little bit faster, a little
- 6:10Speaker 2: bit earlier in the game.
- 6:11Speaker 1: But there was a.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Momentum shift that happened when jayalhen Hurts was unable to
- 6:17Speaker 2: connect with aj Brown along the sideline there, then Jake
- 6:20Speaker 2: Elliott misses a forty three yard field goal, Marcus Mariota
- 6:23Speaker 2: connects with Terry mcclarin for a forty yard completion, they
- 6:26Speaker 2: score with Crosskey Merritt there, and for a lot of
- 6:29Speaker 2: teams that might be enough for the game to start
- 6:32Speaker 2: to become unraveled, but not for a battle tested team
- 6:34Speaker 2: like the Philadelphia Eagles, and then they end up winning
- 6:36Speaker 2: that game running away. So that's what you look for
- 6:39Speaker 2: when you're playing against teams like that. You want to
- 6:41Speaker 2: see how they respond to adversity. Are they able to
- 6:44Speaker 2: put bad teams away? And they did, and so even offensively,
- 6:50Speaker 2: you can look at it and say there are promising
- 6:52Speaker 2: signs that they can build off of the running game.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Sakwon Barkley talked about angry runs. That was something that
- 6:58Speaker 2: I heard in some of the post game videos. In
- 7:02Speaker 2: the postgame video where he spoke after the game that
- 7:05Speaker 2: you know, you look at angry runs. It's his twelve
- 7:08Speaker 2: yard touchdown run was pure determination. It was a gritty run.
- 7:12Speaker 2: He didn't quit on it. And that's the Saquon Barkley
- 7:16Speaker 2: that we've all known to see in Eagles Green. And
- 7:19Speaker 2: when I say, and I've said throughout the season that
- 7:21Speaker 2: I believe Saquon Barkley hasn't lost a step, that he's
- 7:24Speaker 2: the same guy. Well, just look at that game and
- 7:27Speaker 2: he could say that forty eight yard touchdown run he
- 7:29Speaker 2: probably scores more often than not.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I mean, this is the same guy. And I really believe.
- 7:35Speaker 2: That that big Saquon Barkley game, and he rushed for
- 7:38Speaker 2: one hundred and thirty two yards against the Commanders, that
- 7:40Speaker 2: forty eight yard run at the end of that game
- 7:42Speaker 2: certainly helped the stats, but this is the same player,
- 7:45Speaker 2: and they're building a lot of confidence. Their confidence, for
- 7:48Speaker 2: what it's worth, never waivered throughout the season, not internally,
- 7:53Speaker 2: and so I believe that there are tangible things you
- 7:56Speaker 2: can take away from the game against the Raiders and
- 7:59Speaker 2: the Commanders and feel pretty good about the direction of
- 8:01Speaker 2: this football team. And then Tank Bigsby, a perfect compliment
- 8:05Speaker 2: to Saquon Barkley, rushed for that twenty two yard touchdown,
- 8:09Speaker 2: his first touchdown as an Eagle acceleration decisiveness, he runs
- 8:13Speaker 2: angry as well. That's going to be a really lethal
- 8:16Speaker 2: two headed rushing attack in the postseason the teams are
- 8:19Speaker 2: going to have to reckon with and I do believe
- 8:21Speaker 2: that that's something that they can certainly hang their hat
- 8:24Speaker 2: on come away from this game feeling pretty good about
- 8:27Speaker 2: the strides made in the ground game. Jalen Hurts that
- 8:31Speaker 2: touchdown pass that he had at Dallas Goddard. Not many
- 8:33Speaker 2: quarterbacks can make that play, right. It was sort of
- 8:36Speaker 2: a broken play, as Nick Sirianni said after the game
- 8:38Speaker 2: in his post game availability, where Jalen Hurts sort of
- 8:42Speaker 2: steps up into the pocket, eludes pressure and finds Dallas Goddard,
- 8:46Speaker 2: who does a really good job of using his frame
- 8:48Speaker 2: and going up there and snatching the football away.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Good body control there.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I just think that this team is really starting to
- 8:55Speaker 2: fire on all cylinders and hit the ground running. And
- 8:57Speaker 2: he never want to make too much off of of
- 9:00Speaker 2: those two games against those opponents, but it's again, it's
- 9:03Speaker 2: how you beat those teams, what you're showcasing, and it's
- 9:07Speaker 2: not about what other teams.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Are or what they do. It's about what the Eagles do.
- 9:11Speaker 2: And Nick Sirianni has been very consistent in that messaging,
- 9:15Speaker 2: and so of the players, and so that's a really
- 9:19Speaker 2: encouraging sign. Now we'll see what happens against the Buffalo Bills,
- 9:23Speaker 2: but I think that when you have the number two
- 9:26Speaker 2: seed available to you and that's still very much in play,
- 9:31Speaker 2: it perhaps alters the way you approach this game. And
- 9:34Speaker 2: I think anyway, for having two games and even considering
- 9:38Speaker 2: resting players, that's a stretch as it is, but I'm
- 9:41Speaker 2: really curious to see what they're able to go out
- 9:43Speaker 2: there and showcase against a team like the Buffalo Bills,
- 9:47Speaker 2: which is a better measuring stick. And anytime you have
- 9:50Speaker 2: Josh Allen who is really adept at creating yards with
- 9:54Speaker 2: his legs and putting defenses in a unique bind. That's
- 9:57Speaker 2: going to be something that I think that they can
- 9:59Speaker 2: build off of and it's going to help them as
- 10:02Speaker 2: they work towards the postseason.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,

- 13:48Speaker 2: So today I will be going to Nacobe Deane's toy
- 13:50Speaker 2: drive in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and I went to
- 13:54Speaker 2: his toy drive last season where it was in Philadelphia
- 13:57Speaker 2: around this time. I like to put a spotlight on
- 13:59Speaker 2: the post things that players are doing in the community
- 14:02Speaker 2: that Kobe Dean he did a toy drive last season,
- 14:07Speaker 2: as I mentioned, And it's really important for me anyway
- 14:10Speaker 2: to put a spotlight on these things because you see
- 14:14Speaker 2: what they do on the field, and you hear a
- 14:16Speaker 2: lot of the locker room interviews and things like that,
- 14:19Speaker 2: but there's also the other side and a lot of
- 14:22Speaker 2: what these guys do doesn't necessarily get the proper recognition,
- 14:27Speaker 2: and so I'm looking forward to to writing a nice
- 14:31Speaker 2: story off of that, talking to Kobe about what this,
- 14:34Speaker 2: you know, why that means so much to him, maybe
- 14:37Speaker 2: trying to hear what his favorite gift was when he
- 14:39Speaker 2: was a kid growing up, and things of that nature.
- 14:42Speaker 2: So there's a lot to you know, when you take
- 14:46Speaker 2: a step back and really look at things, it offers
- 14:50Speaker 2: a different type of perspective about the success of this
- 14:52Speaker 2: football team, the players that they have in that locker room,
- 14:56Speaker 2: and how everything, despite what's happened earlier in season, how
- 15:00Speaker 2: everything is sort of sort of coming together and working
- 15:03Speaker 2: itself out at the right time. And there's no mistake
- 15:07Speaker 2: for that. That comes with the work that this team
- 15:10Speaker 2: puts in on a day to day basis on the
- 15:12Speaker 2: practice field, working on the details, the coaching staff that
- 15:17Speaker 2: they have in place. I can't say enough about the
- 15:19Speaker 2: assistant coaches that they have. Of course Vic Vangio, Kevin
- 15:22Speaker 2: Patulo deserves a lot of credit for what he's been
- 15:25Speaker 2: able to do and sort of round in a form
- 15:28Speaker 2: here as a play call or there's just a lot
- 15:30Speaker 2: of things that I think you can look at over
- 15:33Speaker 2: the last month of the season and look at that
- 15:36Speaker 2: as a you know, I think it's going to correlate
- 15:40Speaker 2: to postseason success. Now they have to continue to be consistent,
- 15:43Speaker 2: keep their foot on the gas and things like that.
- 15:46Speaker 2: But again, this is the golden age of Eagles football
- 15:50Speaker 2: and I don't think that that should be discounted or
- 15:53Speaker 2: cast aside or anything like that, because it's as Jay
- 15:57Speaker 2: when Hurt said after the game, it is rare. Level
- 16:00Speaker 2: of success is rare, and it should be treated as such. Now, Tuesday,
- 16:05Speaker 2: for the WBCB Show in Marlton, New Jersey, to be
- 16:08Speaker 2: myself and Jeff Mosher. The tentative plan is to have
- 16:12Speaker 2: Will Shipley join us. We'll see what the Eagles schedule
- 16:16Speaker 2: looks like this week. It could be a little altered
- 16:17Speaker 2: because of Christmas. But if the schedule works out in
- 16:21Speaker 2: a way where there's no practice or they don't have
- 16:24Speaker 2: an availability on Tuesday where they're in the building for
- 16:27Speaker 2: a long period of time and that would preclude Will
- 16:28Speaker 2: from being able to join us, it seems like that's
- 16:32Speaker 2: gonna work out, So stay tuned on that. That's gonna
- 16:34Speaker 2: be a fun show when Will join us the first time,
- 16:38Speaker 2: just a really fun show. Hopefully the rapport that Will
- 16:42Speaker 2: and I have established over the last but only two
- 16:44Speaker 2: seasons now really shines through. It's really an extension of
- 16:48Speaker 2: our conversations that we have throughout the weeks in the
- 16:51Speaker 2: locker room. And I hope that it all works out
- 16:54Speaker 2: so that we can bring that to you because it's
- 16:56Speaker 2: going to be a fun conversation, and that'll be at
- 17:01Speaker 2: Chicky's and Petz and Marlton, New Jersey Tuesday night from
- 17:04Speaker 2: six to seven.
- 17:06Speaker 1: And we'll be able to bring you that.
- 17:08Speaker 2: We'll be able when we have everything definitively planned and
- 17:11Speaker 2: locked in, we'll bring that information to you guys, as
- 17:14Speaker 2: we always do. But for now, that's going to do
- 17:16Speaker 2: it for this edition of to Checho Daily. I am
- 17:19Speaker 2: Andrew de Checko, and I'll catch you on the next one.
