- 1:03Speaker 2: Yeah, and then next week.
- 1:06Speaker 5: You said, I'm not gonna be fine.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Good optics for you, but it's fine.
- 1:09Speaker 5: Well, I got one week next week. Admittedly, we're gonna
- 1:13Speaker 5: have some tardiness. We're gonna have some absences. Were tardy
- 1:17Speaker 5: now too, Okay, maybe not tarties. We are definitely gonna
- 1:21Speaker 5: have some absences. They're excused though they are part of
- 1:24Speaker 5: the contract.
- 1:25Speaker 2: You did run them up the principal's office.
- 1:27Speaker 5: I did run them up the old flagpole. But five days.
- 1:30Speaker 5: Some said it couldn't be done. Some said it was
- 1:33Speaker 5: one of the greatest upsets in sports history. Was me
- 1:36Speaker 5: showing up five days, not even on time early? You
- 1:41Speaker 5: have been early? Yeah, I don't think I've walked in
- 1:44Speaker 5: put a foot in this building later than six twenty nine.
- 1:48Speaker 4: How has it been so you're I mean, you're a weekend.
- 1:51Speaker 4: You've never done five straight days. I don't have you
- 1:54Speaker 4: ever have done two straight days?
- 1:58Speaker 5: Maybe? Maybe? No, Well, I've never come in before eight
- 2:01Speaker 5: am at any point.
- 2:04Speaker 4: You did once for me, you did, like when Teabo
- 2:07Speaker 4: was thatt One time you did because I remember, like
- 2:11Speaker 4: you literally you look like you had had a bender
- 2:15Speaker 4: in Vegas and you just walked straight in here even
- 2:18Speaker 4: though you had gone to sleep.
- 2:19Speaker 5: Obviously, And I wasn't on a bender, just not a
- 2:22Speaker 5: morning guy, you know. But I've rewired myself completely. Some
- 2:28Speaker 5: say that can't be done either.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I did it at almost forty years old.
- 2:33Speaker 5: Power of the mind, people, I mean, we're what.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Gosh, we're almost We're just like two weeks.
- 2:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm about to enter two weeks from today, I'm
- 2:41Speaker 5: about to enter the second third of my life. It's
- 2:43Speaker 5: time to rewire second third. I think that's the way
- 2:47Speaker 5: you say that I'm gonna live the the way modern
- 2:52Speaker 5: medicine is going there days hitting me.
- 2:54Speaker 2: No way, I woult to live to be one hundred
- 2:55Speaker 2: and twenty.
- 2:57Speaker 5: What if it's super quality?
- 2:58Speaker 2: Now, who's going to be super quality at one seventeen?
- 3:02Speaker 5: You're saying you don't want to be doing the show
- 3:04Speaker 5: for eighty four years.
- 3:05Speaker 2: No, oh god man, you I mean no.
- 3:08Speaker 5: Running stairs right and stairs on the break.
- 3:11Speaker 4: I can barely do that at forty okay, and have
- 3:14Speaker 4: the breath to come back here and talk.
- 3:18Speaker 5: Just saying they are doing crazy things in medicine.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I get you.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Look, I'll say you know better than I because you
- 3:27Speaker 4: actually do come up with a formula to go into
- 3:30Speaker 4: the body and better the body.
- 3:31Speaker 5: Yeah, drink my hind. It is surprising, like how much
- 3:36Speaker 5: my knees and achilles are just not feeling great every day. Yeah,
- 3:41Speaker 5: some days they feel better than others. I've never even
- 3:43Speaker 5: had any injuries. Like people are always like as soon
- 3:46Speaker 5: as you get to forty, it's like it's like a
- 3:48Speaker 5: light switch comes on, Like you stuff starts to hurt.
- 3:50Speaker 5: I'm like, man, that's that's dumb. Gonna take care of
- 3:52Speaker 5: me stuff. I eat healthy, I stay crazy hydrated meats.
- 3:57Speaker 5: I go in spurts of healthy ause, of course, we
- 3:59Speaker 5: all have to live our life and enjoy it. What's
- 4:01Speaker 5: the point if we're miserable all the time. Laundry is
- 4:04Speaker 5: just well, you've got the juice cleans going awesome, it's great, terrible.
- 4:09Speaker 5: You can do that in spurts. We can do it
- 4:11Speaker 5: a little bit. I like to do Keto diets. You do,
- 4:13Speaker 5: but I only like to do it like once or
- 4:15Speaker 5: twice a year. But it's like a good mental challenge
- 4:17Speaker 5: makes me feel good, makes my gut feel good. I
- 4:20Speaker 5: just respond well to it. Yeah. I don't want to
- 4:22Speaker 5: live life like that. No, I want to have some
- 4:25Speaker 5: good chocolate. Yeah, I want to have a French fry.
- 4:29Speaker 5: I want to Dad tax the heck out of my children.
- 4:33Speaker 2: What's the number one? Dad tax? Mine's usually going to
- 4:36Speaker 2: be some kind of like a shake or some Dairyes.
- 4:40Speaker 5: I usually go, I don't. I don't Dad tax a
- 4:42Speaker 5: lot of the sweets I'm I like, like very specific sweets,
- 4:46Speaker 5: Like I used to eat all the candy I used
- 4:48Speaker 5: to like everything. If I could get us like my
- 4:50Speaker 5: sweet tooth fix on, I would like the older. I
- 4:53Speaker 5: get the worst. It kind of makes me feel so
- 4:54Speaker 5: I kind of pick and choose, like I look at
- 4:57Speaker 5: it dessert and like, are you worth it? If you're
- 4:59Speaker 5: not worth that, I'm not doing it because I just
- 5:02Speaker 5: don't want to, because I'm a man. Are you worried?
- 5:04Speaker 5: Are you worth this? But I like the dad text,
- 5:08Speaker 5: like the French fries. So if like we do, if
- 5:09Speaker 5: we do like a Chick fil a or something like that.
- 5:11Speaker 5: My kids don't like the crispy parts of things, which
- 5:14Speaker 5: is arguably, maybe not arguably objectively the best part of
- 5:18Speaker 5: the nugget is like the like the little crispy parts,
- 5:21Speaker 5: So eat around it, nose drop all the crispy parts
- 5:23Speaker 5: of the box. Okay, leaving the crispy stuff.
- 5:26Speaker 4: See, I get all the turtleback fries because kids don't
- 5:29Speaker 4: like those.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I love them.
- 5:30Speaker 6: I don't like those them White Victoria loves the I
- 5:37Speaker 6: can't do it either.
- 5:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I've never even thought about somebody liking this. Those
- 5:44Speaker 5: are absolute trash.
- 5:45Speaker 6: It's like it's like when you got like the n
- 5:47Speaker 6: piece of the corn bread at school and it was
- 5:49Speaker 6: hard on both sides. You didn't want that's like, there's
- 5:51Speaker 6: no there's no crisp to it, there's no like.
- 5:54Speaker 5: It's the most undynamic bite you could have in.
- 5:56Speaker 4: A fast food It's the best one if you're dipping
- 5:59Speaker 4: it inside them because it doesn't go through the holes.
- 6:01Speaker 5: You probably like the old steak fries those potato wedges
- 6:05Speaker 5: used to get back in the day.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Bad.
- 6:12Speaker 5: It's better than it is better than no fry. Bad fries.
- 6:16Speaker 6: It's like bad pizza, Like even the bad ones, you're
- 6:18Speaker 6: still you're still gonna eat it.
- 6:20Speaker 5: It's true. So I don't want to poo poo all
- 6:22Speaker 5: over all the fries. But of like, if we had
- 6:25Speaker 5: a fry tier list, steak fries are not even close
- 6:29Speaker 5: to the second to last place. They are so far last.
- 6:33Speaker 4: That's actually not a bad tear list potatoes potatoes.
- 6:39Speaker 5: Yeah, but there's so many different types of fries you could.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Strictly there's are under seasons.
- 6:50Speaker 2: One thing, though, you did say didn't have any injuries earlier.
- 6:55Speaker 2: It's kind of a lie.
- 6:57Speaker 4: I remember you being so dramatic going into the locker
- 7:02Speaker 4: room getting shot up against Arkansas and like coming out
- 7:05Speaker 4: like dude, dude, you're not even hurt. You got the
- 7:10Speaker 4: fattest ankle braces I've ever seen on in my life
- 7:13Speaker 4: because he got bigging due Elandra.
- 7:15Speaker 2: They were gigantic.
- 7:16Speaker 4: It looked like he had two casts on the bottom
- 7:19Speaker 4: of his legs.
- 7:20Speaker 6: People exercise with like Uncle Wade.
- 7:22Speaker 2: That's exactly what they look like.
- 7:24Speaker 5: The adversity I faced in that season, from start to
- 7:28Speaker 5: finish was just unheard of. Things like that or you
- 7:32Speaker 5: usually get books written about them. At an ankle sprain.
- 7:36Speaker 4: I think we could put all our brains together and
- 7:40Speaker 4: write a book.
- 7:41Speaker 5: Let's do it.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I think we could, and then turn it into your plate.
- 7:44Speaker 5: Can it have last full back?
- 7:46Speaker 6: Yeah, pictures in it, because like, here's the thing.
- 7:50Speaker 5: I'm gonna be very.
- 7:51Speaker 4: There's the book that I put pick up and it
- 7:53Speaker 4: doesn't have pictures in it.
- 7:54Speaker 5: That's a surprise, That's what I'm saying. Like I'm not
- 7:56Speaker 5: I'm not reading it. Well, we have to. We got
- 7:59Speaker 5: to put the X rays in the that shows slight inflammation.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Slight And this man went into the locker room. All right, listen,
- 8:07Speaker 2: I had roar of the crowd for slightness.
- 8:10Speaker 5: I had sprained a sea joint. I did for just
- 8:15Speaker 5: risking my body Tuesday diving for the high line for
- 8:20Speaker 5: a two point conversion. It is a great story though,
- 8:23Speaker 5: in that game where I sprained my right a sea joint,
- 8:27Speaker 5: I think it was in the third quarter in the
- 8:29Speaker 5: two point conversion, I dove for the pylon sprain the
- 8:31Speaker 5: a seed joint, and I'm like, wow, that didn't feel great,
- 8:34Speaker 5: Like I hate I'd hate to like hurt my right
- 8:37Speaker 5: arm in a two point conversion. And so they take
- 8:41Speaker 5: me in, shoot me up, numb it. Yeah, feels great. Right,
- 8:46Speaker 5: started dropping some dimes, playing great the old lighter Kane.
- 8:50Speaker 5: They put in the shoulder stops like starts wearing off right.
- 8:53Speaker 5: At the end of the fourth quarter and we get
- 8:56Speaker 5: the ball. I think we're tied at this point. This
- 8:58Speaker 5: is before we went to overtime, and we're like on
- 9:01Speaker 5: the fifty and like all right, let's get in there.
- 9:03Speaker 5: I'm like, oh my god, don't don't call Hill Mary.
- 9:06Speaker 5: Do not call Heill Mary, because I because I couldn't
- 9:09Speaker 5: lift my like like.
- 9:11Speaker 2: This was like we did you knew he had one
- 9:13Speaker 2: more play.
- 9:13Speaker 5: We knew he had one more play. It was a
- 9:15Speaker 5: tie ball game. It was like on our on our own.
- 9:18Speaker 5: Maybe I'm there forty five it was. It was Hill
- 9:20Speaker 5: Mary Territory. Yeah. Yeah. So I get there and I'm like,
- 9:21Speaker 5: I can't lift like my elbow like past month, my
- 9:24Speaker 5: chest right, like, oh god, it's gonna be bad. So
- 9:27Speaker 5: I get there and we I said all right, down,
- 9:29Speaker 5: said hut, And I was like, I already knew the
- 9:31Speaker 5: outcome of this throw, like what it was going to be.
- 9:34Speaker 5: I was like, oh, let's just let's just rip it,
- 9:35Speaker 5: let's give it. Hell I got, I roll out and
- 9:38Speaker 5: I throw it as far as I can and it
- 9:40Speaker 5: went like twenty yards. Oh no, and then a guy came.
- 9:44Speaker 5: This guy came and hit me in the shoulder to
- 9:46Speaker 5: insult the injury. That is why they took me into
- 9:50Speaker 5: the locker room and proceeded to give me two shots
- 9:53Speaker 5: of light it can at that point. Yeah, and then
- 9:55Speaker 5: that's when, of course we I was like, let's go
- 9:57Speaker 5: do this. Hopefully we win the coin toss and we
- 10:00Speaker 5: get the ball second, right, but I think we lost
- 10:02Speaker 5: the coin toss and we got it first. So they
- 10:03Speaker 5: were like they were throwing, scraping, scraping the needles against
- 10:07Speaker 5: my bone and stuff like get it in there. That's
- 10:09Speaker 5: when I ran out and I think y'all were already
- 10:11Speaker 5: in the huddle. Yeah, we were in the huddle on
- 10:13Speaker 5: the field first play of overtime and I run out
- 10:15Speaker 5: of the tunnel.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Yeah, so dramatic.
- 10:17Speaker 4: It was the door, like waiting like parents out there
- 10:22Speaker 4: in the.
- 10:25Speaker 2: And go, I wonder, are you talking about the Arkansas game? Yeah,
- 10:29Speaker 2: I need to re I need to kind of relive
- 10:30Speaker 2: that game.
- 10:30Speaker 5: I don't.
- 10:31Speaker 2: I don't remember a whole lot about that game.
- 10:34Speaker 5: First half we sucked. I remember like in O seven.
- 10:36Speaker 4: I definitely remember like Virginia Tech, and I remember Florida
- 10:40Speaker 4: even kind of remember Kentucky more than I remember Arkansas.
- 10:44Speaker 4: I don't remember. I do remember you and I. We
- 10:47Speaker 4: hit a rail for like sixty five. They get called
- 10:50Speaker 4: back because.
- 10:50Speaker 5: Early rail you out of You just had a like
- 10:53Speaker 5: offset full back. Yeah I play.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Actually I never played fullback that year. I really didn't.
- 10:59Speaker 4: And they put me a full back. I'm like, oh here,
- 11:02Speaker 4: they're gonna know something's coming. But Arkansas thankfully adjust to it.
- 11:08Speaker 5: Was it was it early in Brandon early and Jared.
- 11:12Speaker 4: I think it was early in Jojo. They get on
- 11:15Speaker 4: the line and yeah, it got called back for legal.
- 11:17Speaker 5: That was tough for me.
- 11:18Speaker 2: That killed a lot of momentum.
- 11:20Speaker 5: Killed so much momentium and we would have gone out,
- 11:22Speaker 5: we would have obviously won. There didn't matter. But early
- 11:26Speaker 5: man that that was tough for him. He thought through
- 11:28Speaker 5: so much that you're seeing injury. So he didn't have
- 11:30Speaker 5: a lot of practice time. So it was like one
- 11:31Speaker 5: of those things we called a play was a brand
- 11:33Speaker 5: new play that we installed like two days before the
- 11:35Speaker 5: game or something like that. So they just had some
- 11:37Speaker 5: alignment issues mid line of scrimmage.
- 11:41Speaker 4: I think, I mean hindsight, but I think we win
- 11:44Speaker 4: the game if they don't call that back because yeah,
- 11:48Speaker 4: we didn't score on that drive.
- 11:49Speaker 5: I ain't no guess the linebacker.
- 11:52Speaker 4: I do remember this, so you know, if I was
- 11:55Speaker 4: ever lined up at fullback, it was typically like to
- 11:58Speaker 4: get the ball thrown to me, yeah, and I'd go
- 12:02Speaker 4: into the flats or something and we try to run
- 12:04Speaker 4: like a post from the outside receiver.
- 12:06Speaker 2: I'd run a flat and try to catch it hit
- 12:09Speaker 2: the corner.
- 12:09Speaker 5: It was amazing back in the day, like old school
- 12:11Speaker 5: football is. Like you see an offset full back on
- 12:14Speaker 5: fourth and one or third and one, how many times
- 12:16Speaker 5: they would outflank the linebacker to get to the flat.
- 12:19Speaker 4: I know for a two yard on fire and lightning
- 12:21Speaker 4: kind kind of plays. So this linebacker overflowed heavy thinking
- 12:27Speaker 4: I'm going to the flat, gotcha, And so as soon
- 12:30Speaker 4: as he like overflowed, I just sleep like kind of
- 12:32Speaker 4: slipped like right underneath him and then got back into
- 12:35Speaker 4: the route.
- 12:36Speaker 5: I dropped that throw on you. We did old numb
- 12:38Speaker 5: numb shoulder, old shoulder over here.
- 12:41Speaker 2: One of the few times you threw a pretty ball.
- 12:43Speaker 5: I'd never felt better throwing though I couldn't feel it.
- 12:46Speaker 5: Let's go.
- 12:48Speaker 2: I relived it the other day when I was looking for.
- 12:51Speaker 5: Highlights, like sound bites of the highlights. The one you found, Yeah.
- 12:56Speaker 4: It was like a really long highlight video on you
- 13:00Speaker 4: about that game.
- 13:01Speaker 2: I no, no, the Arkansas No, just the Arkansas game brief.
- 13:05Speaker 5: That would have been a very like four tuitous like
- 13:08Speaker 5: highlight for us to put in the intro maybe to
- 13:11Speaker 5: hester that ended up getting called back for Yeah.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Actually perfect, you play the play the five.
- 13:17Speaker 5: Second but it didn't.
- 13:20Speaker 2: That isn't good. That is going to be your job
- 13:24Speaker 2: doing the breaks if you can find that.
- 13:25Speaker 6: Well, I'm almost I'm almost to the flint Hill, Mary play. Oh,
- 13:29Speaker 6: I'm watching the full four hour game here.
- 13:32Speaker 4: Mary, is it a hail Mary if it goes twenty yards?
- 13:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know what you.
- 13:38Speaker 4: Think it is, all right, we will when we come
- 13:40Speaker 4: back get this show started.
- 13:43Speaker 2: But but something that I wanted to make sure we
- 13:49Speaker 2: got out there.
- 13:49Speaker 4: Today Today marks the eighty first anniversary of D Day,
- 13:54Speaker 4: So June sixth, nineteen forty four, when more than one
- 13:57Speaker 4: hundred and fifty thousand Allied troops to the beaches of
- 14:00Speaker 4: Normandy and obviously one of the most pivotal moments.
- 14:03Speaker 2: In world history.
- 14:04Speaker 4: Their bravery turn the tide on World War Two and
- 14:07Speaker 4: helped liberate Europe from Nazi domination. And we remember the courage, sacrifice,
- 14:12Speaker 4: unbreakable spirit of those who fought in those who never
- 14:15Speaker 4: made it home. Their legacy lives on in the freedom
- 14:18Speaker 4: we enjoy today every day, and we always honor them.
- 14:22Speaker 4: So shout out to everybody that obviously had anybody involved
- 14:27Speaker 4: in that gosh, I mean, one of literally the biggest
- 14:30Speaker 4: days in the history of the world, and today is
- 14:33Speaker 4: the eighty first anniversary.
- 14:34Speaker 5: I'm sure like everybody listening has some sort of personal
- 14:37Speaker 5: impact with World War Like they had a grandfather, a
- 14:40Speaker 5: great uncle, whatever it was that fought and served and goodness,
- 14:46Speaker 5: good lord, I mean, are we are we grateful? We thankful?
- 14:51Speaker 5: Are we blessed for that generation of those people that
- 14:55Speaker 5: that's sacrificed, who were brave enough to to answer the call?
- 15:01Speaker 5: So thankful for them. And it makes you I mean,
- 15:03Speaker 5: we just have a Memorial Day not too long ago,
- 15:05Speaker 5: so it makes you grateful for the people that were
- 15:07Speaker 5: fought in that day and that at that time, but
- 15:09Speaker 5: for the people that serve now. So makes us proud
- 15:13Speaker 5: to be Americans.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Absolutely, And if you like, if you want to catch
- 15:17Speaker 4: up on like exactly how everything went down, Bandon Brothers,
- 15:21Speaker 4: the Pacific.
- 15:23Speaker 5: Brothers again, like so good, that's the best.
- 15:28Speaker 2: All right, we will step away.
- 15:29Speaker 4: We got our guy Ben McDonald about fifteen minutes from now,
- 15:32Speaker 4: we'll really dive into some L s U baseball. Glenn's

- 18:57Speaker 4: Uh, your boy boy finally found a landing spot. Aaron
- 19:03Speaker 4: Rodgers one year deal Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 19:09Speaker 5: Are we surprised, not at all.
- 19:12Speaker 2: I mean so.
- 19:13Speaker 4: Surprising the fact that it's like it's just continue to
- 19:17Speaker 4: drag on so long.
- 19:18Speaker 2: You're like, well, maybe this isn't gonna happen.
- 19:20Speaker 4: I don't I don't really know, but you're trying to
- 19:21Speaker 4: find a landing spot for all these you know, the
- 19:24Speaker 4: quarterbacks that were out there, and Russell Wilson goes to
- 19:26Speaker 4: the Giants, Jamis goes to the Giants, Flacco goes to
- 19:29Speaker 4: the Browns.
- 19:30Speaker 2: But Aaron Rodgers was like kind of the one.
- 19:32Speaker 4: It's like, all right, well, wherever he goes, he's going
- 19:35Speaker 4: to be the starters. So it's a little bit different
- 19:37Speaker 4: than those situations I just laid out there. But you know,
- 19:40Speaker 4: for whatever reason, it took a long time, they didn't
- 19:43Speaker 4: draft a quarterback and then we're like, okay, well they'll
- 19:45Speaker 4: bring somebody and they're not going to go into the
- 19:47Speaker 4: season with Mason Rudolph as or starting quarterback. We didn't
- 19:50Speaker 4: know who it was, so you know, we thought it
- 19:54Speaker 4: would be maybe the Vikings because he just felt like,
- 19:56Speaker 4: you know, he was trying to trail Brett fav as
- 19:59Speaker 4: much as he could going from Packers to Jets and
- 20:01Speaker 4: the way that it all went down.
- 20:02Speaker 5: But I mean, fairness, though, I would I would rather
- 20:05Speaker 5: go play for the Vikings. Feels me, yeah, pretty good.
- 20:08Speaker 4: You got a pretty good out there, good receiver, got
- 20:12Speaker 4: a couple of guys out there, but a rod he
- 20:14Speaker 4: goes to the Steelers. It's just brutal division. I played
- 20:21Speaker 4: in the AFC my entire career. I didn't play in
- 20:23Speaker 4: the North, but we always ended up playing the AFC North.
- 20:26Speaker 4: I swear it's like, some way, somehow, either in the
- 20:29Speaker 4: regular season or in the postseason, we're going to play
- 20:32Speaker 4: the Steelers, we were going to play the Ravens, and
- 20:34Speaker 4: it was going to be hell. So it is a brutal,
- 20:36Speaker 4: brutal division. And you know, you've got certainly the Bengals
- 20:40Speaker 4: the Ravens that have championship aspirations right, and they've got
- 20:44Speaker 4: Jimmy's and Joe's all over the place, and even the Browns.
- 20:47Speaker 2: The Browns aren't good, but the defense is good. The
- 20:50Speaker 2: well in the pass.
- 20:52Speaker 5: Rush, I'll kill you with quarterback numbers. If five hitch
- 20:55Speaker 5: it down, I'll beat you down. When you think one
- 20:59Speaker 5: of them is tired, the next another fresh one comes in,
- 21:01Speaker 5: different QB every quarter coach.
- 21:05Speaker 2: All right, so initial thoughts? What do you think?
- 21:08Speaker 5: So initial thoughts? I didn't know what he was going
- 21:15Speaker 5: to do. Of course we're buddy, his friends, but I
- 21:18Speaker 5: don't ever talk to him like about football or about
- 21:21Speaker 5: like what's hey, what's your next move? Blah blah blah.
- 21:24Speaker 5: It's kind of a dumb, weird conversation for you know,
- 21:26Speaker 5: friends that have to think.
- 21:27Speaker 2: But you're in sports media now.
- 21:29Speaker 5: So I'm in sports media for day five and no
- 21:32Speaker 5: big deal. So people always ask me, hey, what's your
- 21:35Speaker 5: boy gonna do? What your boy gonna do? I honestly
- 21:37Speaker 5: didn't have any idea. But the more it kind of
- 21:39Speaker 5: like went on without a decision or without like something
- 21:42Speaker 5: official being signed, well, you know, maybe the writings on
- 21:45Speaker 5: the wall that he maybe doesn't want to go there.
- 21:48Speaker 5: Maybe he something always comes available during training camp and
- 21:53Speaker 5: maybe it's that kind of situation. But when you look
- 21:56Speaker 5: at like now that it's official, when you look at
- 22:00Speaker 5: everything that happened, do you not think do people really
- 22:03Speaker 5: not think the pundits out there that the Steelers and
- 22:07Speaker 5: Aaron had some sort of like gentleman's agreement this whole time,
- 22:11Speaker 5: Like people, the media has been driving me crazy, driving
- 22:16Speaker 5: me crazy about how.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Now your colleagues, the Steelers.
- 22:20Speaker 5: And Mike Tomlin are so stupid for waiting this long
- 22:25Speaker 5: and they've they've missed every other they didn't draft a quarter,
- 22:27Speaker 5: but they didn't do this. Blah blah blah. The Steelers
- 22:29Speaker 5: aren't stupid, Mike Tomlin.
- 22:31Speaker 4: They're one of the best franchises in sports, right Yeah.
- 22:35Speaker 5: And so it's it drove me crazy. And then oh,
- 22:38Speaker 5: Aaron Righter. He's so selfish. He just wants people to
- 22:41Speaker 5: talk about them. He likes the spotlight. He just does
- 22:43Speaker 5: all this. He does this for attention. Have you ever
- 22:46Speaker 5: have you heard him say anything? He's not driving, he's
- 22:50Speaker 5: not trying to get attention out there. He's like the
- 22:55Speaker 5: timing to me, he's signing a week before minicamp. If
- 22:58Speaker 5: he signed three months ago, he wasn't going to go
- 23:01Speaker 5: to tas No, right, not that many forty forty one
- 23:06Speaker 5: year Olds are going to tas So, like if they
- 23:09Speaker 5: don't think that there was some sort of gentleman agreement
- 23:11Speaker 5: that I think people are crazy, right because I.
- 23:13Speaker 4: Mean it's been thrown with DK as well, Like yeah
- 23:17Speaker 4: on the side, which doesn't necessarily any meaning thing, but
- 23:21Speaker 4: when you're rumored to go to Pittsburgh, he got traded
- 23:24Speaker 4: to Pittsburgh.
- 23:25Speaker 5: Yeah, but let me just say it's like for for
- 23:26Speaker 5: all the they like to paint Aaron and I get it,
- 23:29Speaker 5: I get some of the some of the optics, some
- 23:31Speaker 5: of his deliveries not the best sometimes, Like I get it,
- 23:37Speaker 5: but to pay them like trying to be this guy
- 23:39Speaker 5: like selfish and want attention and like and trying to
- 23:42Speaker 5: jack around the Steelers and not taking the seriously, that's all.
- 23:46Speaker 5: That's all stupid and lazy, like takes. Like, first of all,
- 23:50Speaker 5: you never know what somebody's going through right in their life.
- 23:53Speaker 5: But to think that he wanted any attention from it,
- 23:57Speaker 5: he didn't want any Yeah, he doesn't want that sort
- 24:01Speaker 5: of attention and he didn't certainly didn't do it for that.
- 24:04Speaker 5: But he goes there. I mean, I certainly don't think
- 24:07Speaker 5: it's the best place for him to land. It's there,
- 24:09Speaker 5: I was going. Of course, they brought in DK back
- 24:12Speaker 5: ew They just got rid of Picket. They are in
- 24:15Speaker 5: a terrible, terribly tough division.
- 24:17Speaker 4: Yeah, Nazie Harris is no longer there running back. He's
- 24:19Speaker 4: with the Chargers now. So Warren's gonna be your your
- 24:22Speaker 4: RB one yep.
- 24:23Speaker 5: But for the Steelers it makes I mean, it makes
- 24:26Speaker 5: a ton of sense. Even if he gives you because
- 24:30Speaker 5: you don't know what he's going to be. He's gonna
- 24:33Speaker 5: be good. He's not going to be a bad quarterback. Like,
- 24:35Speaker 5: even when there's a lot of negative stuff about him
- 24:38Speaker 5: in New York, he still was good in New York.
- 24:40Speaker 5: Look at his stats. He didn't have like they played
- 24:42Speaker 5: on People got a little fatigued from it because they
- 24:44Speaker 5: kept playing, putting him on primetime and stuff like that.
- 24:46Speaker 5: They didn't necessarily have the success that they wanted to.
- 24:50Speaker 5: They only won five games last year. The team was awful.
- 24:53Speaker 5: But you look at what he did and it stacked
- 24:56Speaker 5: up pretty good against it. Certainly it was low, it
- 25:00Speaker 5: was down for his like career stats, his career averages.
- 25:04Speaker 5: But if he can find a little bit of that spark,
- 25:06Speaker 5: I think there's only been one quarterback that's ever been
- 25:08Speaker 5: like worth anything after the age of forty, that's the goat.
- 25:11Speaker 4: Yeah, he's far had you know, a nice mini run
- 25:16Speaker 4: there with Minnesota, but I mean the Jets was bad,
- 25:19Speaker 4: but then Minnesota was for what at least one year,
- 25:21Speaker 4: maybe two.
- 25:24Speaker 6: They made the NFC Championship when the Saints. Well, and
- 25:27Speaker 6: somebody was talking about that this morning when Farv signed
- 25:31Speaker 6: with the Vikings. He signed in the middle of August, right, see,
- 25:35Speaker 6: because he had thought he's got a half shoulders certain Well,
- 25:38Speaker 6: you and I would talk about the other day and
- 25:39Speaker 6: I'm like, hey, if it's not the Steelers, like what's
- 25:41Speaker 6: his option? And you were like, hey, you can always
- 25:43Speaker 6: sign somewhere, like right before.
- 25:44Speaker 5: If somebody decides they do a QB, it always happens.
- 25:47Speaker 5: Somebody gets injured, somebody underperforms. Let's just take a very
- 25:52Speaker 5: super hypothetical situation Week two training camp. JJ McCarthy sprains
- 25:58Speaker 5: and ankle or just isn't looking right, just something. Because
- 26:03Speaker 5: it's football, it's a collision sport. Somebody is gonna have
- 26:06Speaker 5: a tweak, somebody's gonna have something. Oh right, the Falcons
- 26:08Speaker 5: Michael Pennock, Well, I guess they got Kirk behind him.
- 26:10Speaker 5: But let's just say, you know what I'm saying, something
- 26:13Speaker 5: is always gonna happen, and I think that probably odd
- 26:16Speaker 5: say that a better situation potentially could pop up, but
- 26:20Speaker 5: you never know. The Steelers are Mike Toma. What he's
- 26:23Speaker 5: done there, I think he's been there for over fifteen years.
- 26:25Speaker 5: I mean, it's it's incredible. I know that Mike and
- 26:27Speaker 5: Aaron have like a super like a mutual respect and
- 26:31Speaker 5: admiration for each other. So from that aspect, I think
- 26:36Speaker 5: it could be a really good fit from a relation
- 26:38Speaker 5: relationship standpoint, And Aaron is very big on like having
- 26:41Speaker 5: a good relationship for the people he's working with, working for,
- 26:45Speaker 5: playing with, And you'll never find anybody that's currently in
- 26:50Speaker 5: the locker room with him that says he's a bad
- 26:52Speaker 5: teammate right now. You've had some disgruntled people in the past,
- 26:55Speaker 5: like you know, Greg Jennings, Ter Michael Like, You've had
- 26:57Speaker 5: some people come out and say some things afterwards, but
- 27:00Speaker 5: I mean who hasn't. But you've never found anyone that's like, oh,
- 27:03Speaker 5: that's a that's a bad teammate, or you probably wouldn't
- 27:05Speaker 5: find Anye on the Steelers that says, nah, we don't
- 27:07Speaker 5: want to yeah, yeah, no, because when he's great, like,
- 27:10Speaker 5: let's just say he finds the spark. Yeah, I mean,
- 27:12Speaker 5: people forget he won MVP three years ago. Yeah it
- 27:16Speaker 5: wasn't was it three?
- 27:19Speaker 6: I mean I guess technically four didn't he didn't play
- 27:23Speaker 6: because he got hurt.
- 27:24Speaker 5: But I guess four. Yep, So I mean it's and
- 27:28Speaker 5: he was thirty eight. Yeah, probably when he did that.
- 27:32Speaker 5: I think, I think when he did that.
- 27:33Speaker 4: So, like the end of the day, Mason Rudolph was
- 27:36Speaker 4: a quarterback and now it's Aaron Rodgers.
- 27:39Speaker 2: The team's better.
- 27:40Speaker 4: He found a landing spot and it's the Steelers, so
- 27:42Speaker 4: they'll at least be nine and seven.
- 27:44Speaker 5: Let's just say, let's just say he's got a ten
- 27:47Speaker 5: percent chance of finding his old magic, his old form
- 27:51Speaker 5: and I say old couple of years ago, his old
- 27:53Speaker 5: form and being playing at an MVP level. That's ten
- 27:57Speaker 5: percent more than Mason Rudolph. Yes, right, so it's a
- 28:01Speaker 5: better it's a good signing. It's a really good signing
- 28:03Speaker 5: for the Pittsburgh Steelers. But we'll see how it plays out, obviously,
- 28:09Speaker 5: but I'm excited to watch him. I'm glad. I'm excited
- 28:11Speaker 5: to watch him for another year. Instead of him not
- 28:13Speaker 5: playing and retiring like take it in. He's been one
- 28:16Speaker 5: of the greatest and most dynamic and talented people we've
- 28:19Speaker 5: seen play that position. So get over yourself people, there
- 28:26Speaker 5: you go and relax. Let that man live his life.
- 28:28Speaker 4: All right, Well, we're going to live our life and
- 28:30Speaker 4: we're gonna be joined by Ben McDonald. LSU Legend are
- 28:33Speaker 4: going to be on the call for the super Regional
- 28:35Speaker 4: between LSU and West Virginia coming up on Saturday. In
- 28:39Speaker 4: the box and will have been when we jump back
- 28:41Speaker 4: here on OTB.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Off the bench, you say relaxed.
- 28:45Speaker 4: I thought Aaron's supposed to spell relaxed and they say.
- 28:47Speaker 5: Oh, that was not a call out. That was actually
- 28:50Speaker 5: not a call out.
- 28:50Speaker 2: There man, well done. Go to pelicanroof dot com. Pelican
- 28:53Speaker 2: roof dot com.
- 28:54Speaker 4: If you want that instant roof quote, It is right there,
- 28:56Speaker 4: going to pop up on the right side of the website.
- 28:58Speaker 4: What is that, Well, you put in your address, okay,
- 29:01Speaker 4: and it's going to get an outline of your roof
- 29:04Speaker 4: that you could be your home, it certainly could be
- 29:06Speaker 4: your business, but it's gonna get an outline of it
- 29:08Speaker 4: through Google Maps and then it's gonna give you an
- 29:11Speaker 4: estimate on what it would be for your roof replacement.
- 29:13Speaker 2: An incredible tool that they have over at Pelican Roof.
- 29:16Speaker 4: And always remember like they're in Baton Rouge and Lafayette,
- 29:20Speaker 4: they're not driving back and forth. No, they have roots
- 29:23Speaker 4: in Lafayette, they have roots here in Baton Rouge. They're
- 29:25Speaker 4: in local communities supporting all kinds of different things in
- 29:29Speaker 4: those communities.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Go to the website today Pelican Roof dock out.
- 29:31Speaker 5: Yeah, we all know what's about, what's about to happen.
- 29:33Speaker 5: We're about to be in a hurricane season. Get your
- 29:35Speaker 5: roof checked out. Make sure there's no leaks to it.
- 29:38Speaker 5: Call them today in Baton Rouge or Lafayette. Pelicanroof dot
- 29:42Speaker 5: com two two five two two eight two eight six.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Five Tigers turn Talkers. This is off the bench, all right,
- 30:11Speaker 1: welcome back.
- 30:12Speaker 4: In and it is OTB here on this Friday afternoon.
- 30:15Speaker 4: It is always our pleasure to catch up with our
- 30:17Speaker 4: next guess. It is Ben McDonald, LSU legend, gonna be
- 30:21Speaker 4: on the call there for LSU and West Virginia super
- 30:24Speaker 4: Regional action in the box.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Ben, always a pleasure. Hope you're doing well.
- 30:28Speaker 3: My pleasure always good to chat with you guys.
- 30:31Speaker 4: Man last week. Uh, look, the box was rocking. I
- 30:34Speaker 4: know you had a chance to call that regional as well.
- 30:37Speaker 2: It was.
- 30:37Speaker 4: You know, it was an interesting regional because LSU looks
- 30:40Speaker 4: like they were on cruise control. But this team, man,
- 30:42Speaker 4: Little Rock, they were fighting and scratching and clawing, and
- 30:46Speaker 4: they take down Dallas Baptists, after they take down Rhode Island,
- 30:49Speaker 4: and they came into the box on Sunday with all
- 30:51Speaker 4: the confidence and so it was one of those situations
- 30:54Speaker 4: on Ben on a Monday, like, man, their ultimate you know,
- 30:57Speaker 4: confidence is showing if you're LSU or you stunned a
- 31:00Speaker 4: little bit because you had the four seed kind of
- 31:02Speaker 4: punch up. And I give you a lot of credit because,
- 31:05Speaker 4: as you know, in the game of baseball, when you've
- 31:07Speaker 4: got momentum on your side like Little Rock did, it's
- 31:09Speaker 4: hard to close out and continue on.
- 31:12Speaker 3: Yeah. Look, baseball is a separator for our major sports,
- 31:15Speaker 3: right and this could never happen in football. Ever, it
- 31:18Speaker 3: could never. Little Rock doesn't even have a football program,
- 31:21Speaker 3: But if they did, LSU could play them in football
- 31:24Speaker 3: one thousand times and LSU football would win a thousand
- 31:27Speaker 3: out of a thousand that's just the truth. It wouldn't
- 31:30Speaker 3: happened in basketball either, but it can happen in baseball.
- 31:33Speaker 3: That's to me what makes baseball the greatest game in
- 31:35Speaker 3: the world. It looks with all the upsets that we had, guys,
- 31:37Speaker 3: and I know y'all been following it, but think of
- 31:39Speaker 3: it like this. Texas A and M and Virginia where
- 31:43Speaker 3: unanimous pre season. When the season begins, the number one
- 31:46Speaker 3: and number two teams in the entire country, nobody was
- 31:49Speaker 3: even close. Odds are in Vegas, A and M was
- 31:51Speaker 3: gonna walk away with the national title. None of those
- 31:54Speaker 3: two teams don't. It's not gonna win it, teaches, they
- 31:56Speaker 3: didn't get in the field of sixty four this year.
- 31:58Speaker 3: And then you fast forward to the top eight national steeds,
- 32:01Speaker 3: the best teams in baseball, Vanderbilt and of course you're
- 32:04Speaker 3: the Bergs at Tech. The don't even get out their
- 32:05Speaker 3: own regionals this year. And so that's what kind of
- 32:08Speaker 3: year it's been in college baseball. We had seven of
- 32:10Speaker 3: our top sixteen national seeds go down in regional play,
- 32:13Speaker 3: which has never happened before. It's been a wild ride,
- 32:15Speaker 3: and so it could happen in baseball. But I was
- 32:17Speaker 3: proud of LSU the way they fall back. Look, they
- 32:19Speaker 3: got down five to one in that deciding game in
- 32:22Speaker 3: Game seven and found a way to come back. You know,
- 32:24Speaker 3: obviously Cason Evans was the biggest part of that, and
- 32:26Speaker 3: he came in out of the bullpen and started stacking
- 32:28Speaker 3: z ros and was phenomenal. You know, in LSU ploub
- 32:31Speaker 3: back in it. But this is what has to happen
- 32:33Speaker 3: in baseball to be able to advance the next level.
- 32:35Speaker 3: And now they're going to play West Virginia this weekend,
- 32:37Speaker 3: who've been the Big twelve record season champions the last
- 32:40Speaker 3: two years in their second Super Regions. So this is
- 32:42Speaker 3: not gonna be an easy weekend.
- 32:43Speaker 5: But the Tigers, No it is not.
- 32:45Speaker 4: But and before we move forward, I do want to
- 32:47Speaker 4: get back real quick to Little Rock in that last
- 32:49Speaker 4: game because I am going to assume that the lineup
- 32:52Speaker 4: that we saw in the last game against Little Rock
- 32:54Speaker 4: is going to be the same one that we start
- 32:56Speaker 4: off with here against West Virginia, because honestly been I've
- 33:00Speaker 4: been saying it all week. If you don't make those changes,
- 33:02Speaker 4: I'm not sure that LSU's still playing. Because you move
- 33:05Speaker 4: Ethan Fry up to the two hole, he goes four
- 33:07Speaker 4: for four, has two walks on base six times, two doubles,
- 33:10Speaker 4: a home run, and then having Luis Hernandez in the
- 33:13Speaker 4: eight hole, he hits two home runs. I mean, Jay
- 33:16Speaker 4: did a lot of tinkering with the lineup there in
- 33:18Speaker 4: that last game, Game seven of the regional and it
- 33:21Speaker 4: all really worked out incredibly well. And if you don't
- 33:23Speaker 4: make those moves, I'm not sure you're still playing.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, look, I give a lot of credit
- 33:29Speaker 3: to Jay two because most coaches aren't going to do that, right.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Most coaches are not going to take a guy that
- 33:33Speaker 3: hit twenty eight homers last year. They probably should have
- 33:36Speaker 3: left for pro ball and didn't. And Jared Jones and
- 33:39Speaker 3: he's been scuffled a little bit, so he kind of
- 33:41Speaker 3: shook the lineup and dropped him down to the five
- 33:42Speaker 3: hole moves Eathan Fry up and you'll brought Steven Mile
- 33:45Speaker 3: up and Nickas. It really just shook up the whole
- 33:47Speaker 3: lot in Stanfield. But hit nine hole to hit the
- 33:49Speaker 3: entire year. He hit seventh hole in that ball game too,
- 33:52Speaker 3: so he shook it up. It paid off. Now most
- 33:54Speaker 3: probably Lu's go to face a left handed pitcher in
- 33:58Speaker 3: game one, So I don't know if that things or not.
- 34:00Speaker 3: We know furiy Ll hits about two hundred and fifty
- 34:03Speaker 3: points better off of right handers than he does left handers.
- 34:05Speaker 3: At the top that hit left, he's very well. I
- 34:07Speaker 3: could see a scenario where they shake up the line
- 34:09Speaker 3: up even again and maybe just put a right hander
- 34:12Speaker 3: to lead it off and drop Kuriel down a spot
- 34:14Speaker 3: or two. That could happen as well, but it very
- 34:16Speaker 3: well could be the same amount up that you're talking about.
- 34:18Speaker 3: You know, I just don't know what exactly what Jay's
- 34:20Speaker 3: don't do just yet. But that's what one thing I
- 34:22Speaker 3: like about Jay is he not as afraid to tak
- 34:24Speaker 3: her a little bit when he feels like he needs
- 34:26Speaker 3: to tink.
- 34:26Speaker 5: Her a little bit. Ben, we all know the and
- 34:29Speaker 5: we're all witnessing and get to see firsthand like the
- 34:31Speaker 5: greatness of Kate Anderson and Anthony Aysen right now. But
- 34:35Speaker 5: I want to hear from your perspective because we all
- 34:37Speaker 5: see the big picture. We see the results, we see
- 34:40Speaker 5: the strikeouts, and and we see him being good. But
- 34:43Speaker 5: I kind of want to hear like a scouting report
- 34:45Speaker 5: from from you on what makes this guy's good? What
- 34:50Speaker 5: Why is there stuff different? Why is it great like
- 34:52Speaker 5: the more movement? What is their position with the pitches?
- 34:55Speaker 5: What is your kind of scouting report on each of
- 34:57Speaker 5: these guys on what makes them so good?
- 35:00Speaker 3: Well, if you talk about Kate Anderson, you talk about
- 35:03Speaker 3: a kid. Remember this is just a second year on campus.
- 35:06Speaker 3: And if you go back and look at what he
- 35:07Speaker 3: did last year, the kid had a twenty seven e
- 35:10Speaker 3: r A at SEC play. Like he didn't pitch well
- 35:12Speaker 3: as a freshman at SEC play. And you want to
- 35:15Speaker 3: talk about helium and the draft, guys, I mean this
- 35:18Speaker 3: to me, Kate Anderson has the most helium out of
- 35:20Speaker 3: any baseball player coming up in the draft next month.
- 35:22Speaker 3: I mean he was a projected into the second round,
- 35:25Speaker 3: mid the second round pick when the season begins. This
- 35:28Speaker 3: you know this year back in February, and now some
- 35:31Speaker 3: publications MLB dot Com Jim Kallis has him going three
- 35:35Speaker 3: overall in the first round of the Seattle Mariners. And
- 35:38Speaker 3: he had shot up the draft boards as a drafta
- 35:41Speaker 3: well sophomore, and I think there was a lot of
- 35:43Speaker 3: folks thought he was coming back to LSU for his
- 35:45Speaker 3: junior year next year. He ain't coming back, Guys, he's
- 35:50Speaker 3: they better enjoy him now because he's not coming back.
- 35:53Speaker 3: And what makes him good, I think there's a lot
- 35:56Speaker 3: of things. One on the mound, you can't ever tell
- 35:58Speaker 3: if he's up, free or down. Like we just got
- 36:01Speaker 3: the hit factor. You know, he's blocked in all the time.
- 36:03Speaker 3: He's down. An extremely emotional guy, he stays locked in.
- 36:06Speaker 3: I think what's really happens growth in one season, and
- 36:08Speaker 3: as a scout and as a GM, that's what you
- 36:10Speaker 3: want to see. He picked up that new pitch, the
- 36:12Speaker 3: slider that he didn't throw last year. Last year was fastball, curveball,
- 36:16Speaker 3: change up. This year he added a slider to the
- 36:18Speaker 3: mix too, and it's been his most used secondary pitch,
- 36:21Speaker 3: you know, right behind the fastball. The velos picked up
- 36:24Speaker 3: a little bit. His composure on the mound is elite.
- 36:27Speaker 3: And let's not forget he's left handed and that always
- 36:29Speaker 3: helps too, you know. And in the year we're talking
- 36:31Speaker 3: to some gms and scouts. The draft overall, you talk
- 36:35Speaker 3: about the entire the entirety of the draft, it's a
- 36:37Speaker 3: little bit weaker than what it has been in the past,
- 36:39Speaker 3: Like it's a weaker draft, and so that's another reason
- 36:42Speaker 3: why he projects out Anderson does as a starting picture
- 36:45Speaker 3: at the MLB level, and I think that's why they
- 36:47Speaker 3: like him so much and why he shut up. He's
- 36:49Speaker 3: talk about Anthony ianson. Look, when you get a guy
- 36:52Speaker 3: from midweight major and imthin k from UC San Diego,
- 36:55Speaker 3: you never know how the stuff is got of translated
- 36:57Speaker 3: in the toughest conference, kind of like football, you don't
- 37:00Speaker 3: know how it translates until you get them on campus
- 37:02Speaker 3: when you start running out there. But Anthony Ias and
- 37:05Speaker 3: I'm telling you what, guys, the fastball to me is
- 37:07Speaker 3: a good one Holkser hitting two ninety two off of it.
- 37:10Speaker 3: But the difference maker for him is his all speed pitches.
- 37:13Speaker 3: In other words, his slider, his purve ball, and his
- 37:16Speaker 3: flip finger fastball are all elite. I'm talking about They
- 37:19Speaker 3: hit like one fifty or lower on all three of
- 37:21Speaker 3: the all speed pitches, and that's just separated for him.
- 37:23Speaker 3: He could really spend the breaking balls in there, and
- 37:26Speaker 3: so he's adapted well. And I would I always like
- 37:29Speaker 3: to look, Okay, how do you perform against the best
- 37:31Speaker 3: competition in the country. And I went back and looked
- 37:33Speaker 3: at Ayenson's numbers on an SEC play alone. His ten
- 37:37Speaker 3: stars guys. He had a two point eight era and
- 37:39Speaker 3: those ten stars and sec plays. So this dude is
- 37:42Speaker 3: just a sign of assassin. He's out a huge emotional
- 37:45Speaker 3: guy either. He just goes out and gets it done.
- 37:47Speaker 3: And you talk about Look you talk about Anderson number
- 37:49Speaker 3: two of the country in strikedoffs right now, I Anson
- 37:52Speaker 3: right behind him at number three in the country. Liam
- 37:54Speaker 3: Doyle leads it from Tennessee. And the only reason he's
- 37:56Speaker 3: ahead of both those guys because he's got two more
- 37:58Speaker 3: appearances than both of them have, you know. And so
- 38:01Speaker 3: that's how dominant this staff has been. It's one A
- 38:03Speaker 3: and it's one B, and it's the reason why LSU
- 38:06Speaker 3: should be in Olma Hall here in about a week.
- 38:09Speaker 5: Ben.
- 38:09Speaker 4: When you look at LSU and Kate Anson and Anthony
- 38:12Speaker 4: Ansen like you just laid out, I mean, obviously the
- 38:14Speaker 4: best for me one two punch in the country. But
- 38:17Speaker 4: if you get to a game three, because we saw
- 38:20Speaker 4: in game seven of the regional right you start Zach Cowen,
- 38:23Speaker 4: but here comes Evans in and he strikes out nine
- 38:25Speaker 4: straight guys.
- 38:26Speaker 5: He was electric.
- 38:27Speaker 4: What do you think happens if you get to a
- 38:29Speaker 4: game three again, do you think it's going to be
- 38:31Speaker 4: the same situation because you know Cason Evans, maybe it's
- 38:34Speaker 4: you know, he needs to.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Come out of the bullpen.
- 38:36Speaker 4: Maybe that's the juice that he needs, whatever it might be,
- 38:38Speaker 4: even though he has starts against Tennessee, Arkansas and others.
- 38:41Speaker 4: Because Zach Cowen, although he started at another place, that
- 38:44Speaker 4: was his first start of the year for LSU, how
- 38:47Speaker 4: do you think game three would go right now if
- 38:49Speaker 4: you do in fact play one.
- 38:51Speaker 3: Well, look, I mean LSU need Zach Cowen to be good.
- 38:56Speaker 3: And if you go back and look earlier in the year, man,
- 38:58Speaker 3: this guy come out of the bullpen, was out that
- 39:00Speaker 3: if you mentioned he was at Watford last year, got
- 39:02Speaker 3: fifteen starts at Watford last year. That's how Jay Saul
- 39:06Speaker 3: Calvin when you know they went to the Chapel Hill
- 39:08Speaker 3: Regional and Calhen was pitching for Watford and he talked
- 39:10Speaker 3: him into coming over to LSU. Obviously he was really
- 39:13Speaker 3: good earlier in the year. He had scoffed a little
- 39:15Speaker 3: bit as a lake, but he's used to starting. If
- 39:16Speaker 3: you go back to last year, it was his first
- 39:18Speaker 3: start this year, but he started a ton his last
- 39:20Speaker 3: two years prior to coming to LSU. But I think
- 39:22Speaker 3: that's gonna be your two guys. I mean, you know,
- 39:25Speaker 3: Evans is a guy that I think you could start him,
- 39:28Speaker 3: or you could bring him out of the bullfit, whatever
- 39:30Speaker 3: you think it's best. Now here's a wild part of that.
- 39:32Speaker 3: You guys know this. If there's a chance to close
- 39:34Speaker 3: out in game one and our game two, Evans is
- 39:38Speaker 3: gonna beat the guy like he's the rover back in football, right.
- 39:41Speaker 3: I mean, he could do a little bit of everything,
- 39:42Speaker 3: and so if you need to close him out tomorrow night,
- 39:45Speaker 3: he's gonna be your guy. He's gonna come close out
- 39:47Speaker 3: game one, or he could close out Game two, and
- 39:49Speaker 3: then you got to back up a punt and figure
- 39:51Speaker 3: out what you're gonna do. Having said that, if he
- 39:52Speaker 3: doesn't pitch him one or two, I could definitely see
- 39:55Speaker 3: a scenario where he is starting and Jay's not messing around.
- 39:58Speaker 3: He's starting Game three and then you have Calvin and
- 40:00Speaker 3: the boys behind him. But that's a concern for relusue
- 40:03Speaker 3: right now. When you get to the back end that
- 40:04Speaker 3: bullpen minus those two guys, you don't really know what
- 40:07Speaker 3: you're gonna get. And that was on display, you know
- 40:09Speaker 3: in Game one against Little Rock when LSU got beat.
- 40:12Speaker 3: They walked eleven and eight of those eleven walks came
- 40:14Speaker 3: around the score. So that's a concern fail issue because
- 40:17Speaker 3: you know, we talk about shore wars sometimes of William
- 40:19Speaker 3: Schmidt and Rizzy and those young guys back there learning
- 40:22Speaker 3: how to pitch back there if you get sideways from
- 40:24Speaker 3: time to time, and sometimes it does.
- 40:26Speaker 5: All right, Ben, we're talking about who's gonna be on
- 40:28Speaker 5: the mound and different strategies there. But let's talk about
- 40:30Speaker 5: who they're facing. We got West Virginia coming in game
- 40:33Speaker 5: start tomorrow. Kind of give us your breakdown of West
- 40:36Speaker 5: Virginia and how they match up with the LSU pitchers
- 40:39Speaker 5: and the LSU LSU lineup.
- 40:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, if you talk about West Virginia, you
- 40:44Speaker 3: can you know a team that really wasn't playing well.
- 40:46Speaker 3: I mean, they did rid the regular season Big twelve championship,
- 40:50Speaker 3: and they did it back to back years as well,
- 40:55Speaker 3: you know, and so they are a really good team.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Having said that, they struggled a little bit coming down
- 40:59Speaker 3: to I mean, they only won I think there were
- 41:01Speaker 3: four or nine to the last thirteen games. If I
- 41:04Speaker 3: look at their overall numbers, I was breaking down they
- 41:06Speaker 3: hit for a good batting average. They're right there with LSU,
- 41:08Speaker 3: right at three hundred, you know, and they do scot
- 41:10Speaker 3: from runs right at eight runs per game, same as LSU.
- 41:12Speaker 3: The difference for them is it's more of a small
- 41:15Speaker 3: ball approach. They only got fifty five homers on the year.
- 41:17Speaker 3: L she was approaching one hundred home runs this year. Now,
- 41:20Speaker 3: the one thing they do better than LSC, they're gonna
- 41:22Speaker 3: press you up. They gotta over one hundred stolen basis,
- 41:24Speaker 3: so they're gonna get on. They're gonna run a little bit.
- 41:26Speaker 3: And so if your Luis Hernandez whoever's catch it for LUs,
- 41:29Speaker 3: you could be air and bad. You got to be
- 41:30Speaker 3: ready to throw some guys out, because I think that's
- 41:32Speaker 3: what West Virginia does best, is they get up and
- 41:34Speaker 3: they go. And this is only their second Super Regional appearance,
- 41:37Speaker 3: and they've done it in back to back years. Now,
- 41:39Speaker 3: you know the Mountaineers, and so it's a team that's
- 41:42Speaker 3: not expected to come in here and win. I think
- 41:44Speaker 3: that's dangerous. As you guys know, sometimes, like you like
- 41:47Speaker 3: Little Rock, you know, when you don't have expectations that
- 41:49Speaker 3: you're kind of free and easy, it opens you up
- 41:50Speaker 3: to be able to just go play the game and say, oh,
- 41:52Speaker 3: well we did our best wed and win. But those
- 41:54Speaker 3: are the dangerous teams to me, you know, And so
- 41:57Speaker 3: LSU will have their hands for if you look on
- 41:58Speaker 3: the mountain, they have a a couple of veteran guys
- 42:01Speaker 3: that's gonna pitch for them this weekend. This gripping Karen
- 42:04Speaker 3: is a kid that's a red shirt senior who's been
- 42:06Speaker 3: around a little bit. He's got over three hundred career
- 42:08Speaker 3: collegiate innings in he's a really good picture. I mean,
- 42:11Speaker 3: he didn't win but five games that didn't score many runs,
- 42:13Speaker 3: but the era is outstanding and just a shade over three.
- 42:16Speaker 3: He can strike you out and got more strikeouts than
- 42:18Speaker 3: each pick. But he's a left hander, and look, left
- 42:21Speaker 3: handers have given LSU problems this year, that's no doubt.
- 42:23Speaker 3: You go look at the batting average and the runs
- 42:25Speaker 3: per game versus left these versus righting LSU not nearly
- 42:28Speaker 3: as good versus left handed pitching. So that worries me
- 42:31Speaker 3: in some ways. And then they're gonna face partsna the
- 42:35Speaker 3: right hander who is older too. Now he's twenty four
- 42:39Speaker 3: years old and these guys are a little bit older,
- 42:40Speaker 3: and they got a lot of the experience under their belt,
- 42:43Speaker 3: so I don't think they're gonna be intimidated by the
- 42:44Speaker 3: environment and eleven or twelve thousand in the box when
- 42:47Speaker 3: you have those veteran guys on the mound, and that's
- 42:49Speaker 3: what West Virginia has, and so it's gonna be interesting
- 42:53Speaker 3: to see the small ball versus big ball. Now we
- 42:56Speaker 3: know at the box this time of year, anything could happen.
- 42:57Speaker 3: I mean, look, Little Rock came in with not many
- 43:00Speaker 3: homers them the year, and they hit seven of them,
- 43:02Speaker 3: you know, And so when the wind starts flowing out,
- 43:04Speaker 3: they can they can get a little bit sideways on
- 43:06Speaker 3: you from time to time. But LSU certainly should come
- 43:09Speaker 3: out of this super regional, that's no doubt about that.
- 43:11Speaker 3: But it will not be I feel like West Virginia
- 43:13Speaker 3: is gonna give them everything they want.
- 43:15Speaker 4: All right, there is our guy, Ben McDonald, LSU legend
- 43:18Speaker 4: gonna be on the call for ESPN in the box
- 43:20Speaker 4: starting tomorrow, LSU versus West Virginia for that super regional
- 43:24Speaker 4: to move on to Omaha.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Ben, you're the man. We appreciate your time and look
- 43:27Speaker 2: forward to the next conversation.
- 43:30Speaker 3: All right, appreciate you guys, take care all.
- 43:31Speaker 4: Right, you as well again the great Ben McDonald. All right,
- 43:34Speaker 4: we will step away, wrap up our number one. When
- 43:36Speaker 4: we come back here on OTB off the bench. Are
- 43:40Speaker 4: going to Central Plumbing dot Org. Central Plumbing dot Org
- 43:43Speaker 4: two five nine two five eighty five fifty two twenty
- 43:46Speaker 4: four seven three sixty five. Weekend holiday game day does
- 43:50Speaker 4: not matter. If you have an emergency, they are the
- 43:52Speaker 4: place to go. Flynn talked about tankless water heaters yesterday.
- 43:57Speaker 2: Man, I cannot tell you how clutch those are.
- 44:00Speaker 4: So y'all know me, got a lot of children, got
- 44:02Speaker 4: a lot of sports going on, so we get home late. Well,
- 44:04Speaker 4: once you get home, you gotta shower, You got to
- 44:07Speaker 4: do the dishes still, you gotta wash the laundry, You
- 44:10Speaker 4: gotta get everything ready for school the next morning. And
- 44:12Speaker 4: if you don't have a tankless water heater, you gotta
- 44:14Speaker 4: wait and do that, or you gotta shower with cold water,
- 44:17Speaker 4: and nobody wants to do that.
- 44:18Speaker 2: So if you go tankless, you know what, you never
- 44:20Speaker 2: do run out of hot water.
- 44:21Speaker 5: Ever. Ever, Hey, the other day last weekend, washing the
- 44:24Speaker 5: dishes the night after dinner, all of a sudden, water
- 44:27Speaker 5: starts spilling on my dishwasher that sucked, and I'm not
- 44:31Speaker 5: very handy. So Central Plumber call them today two.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Five two, two thousand and seven. Shams purple and Gold
- 44:47Speaker 1: to the core. This is Off the Bench with Hester
- 44:50Speaker 1: and Flynn, Matt and Rouges go to for all things
- 44:53Speaker 1: Louisiana sports spigger.
- 44:58Speaker 2: Speaker.
- 44:59Speaker 3: I love.
- 45:07Speaker 5: I love gold. I want to put that one in
- 45:11Speaker 5: the skin box. It's a keeper, all right.
- 45:20Speaker 4: Short stake here. I mean again, we'll apologize, but you
- 45:25Speaker 4: know what it is.
- 45:26Speaker 5: You know what it is like.
- 45:27Speaker 4: I played three years, Flynn played three years for less
- 45:31Speaker 4: clock management.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Not a strong suit.
- 45:33Speaker 5: We're gonna get better, we want to.
- 45:36Speaker 4: He's absolute, man, I make no claims to be better,
- 45:41Speaker 4: zero claims.
- 45:41Speaker 2: That was him. Uh if Ben McDonald's give me an
- 45:44Speaker 2: answer on West Virginia, I'm all that big Ben Cook.
- 45:47Speaker 5: He did you see his video of him feeding his
- 45:49Speaker 5: h his bass crawfish of SI. I wonder what like
- 45:52Speaker 5: the biggest fish and he said he's at fifty five
- 45:55Speaker 5: acre Lake, so he's probably got some big oldlunkers.
- 45:57Speaker 4: Fifty five acre Lake is a pretty bit. So is
- 46:01Speaker 4: our number two of this show. Coming back to you?
- 46:02Speaker 2: O TV, Off the Bench, you say, big.
- 46:06Speaker 5: Hunkers, lunkers with an anker bunker.
- 46:09Speaker 2: Okay, I didn't know. Boujos Electrical dot Com.
- 46:13Speaker 4: That is the website to go to to get your
- 46:15Speaker 4: quote today for that free Generac quote, because the last
- 46:21Speaker 4: thing that you want right now as storm season approaches
- 46:24Speaker 4: is to be without power anywhere, honestly, but certainly in
- 46:28Speaker 4: South Louisiana.
- 46:29Speaker 5: How much does that quote cost?
- 46:31Speaker 2: It's free free.
- 46:32Speaker 5: Yeah, hm f R e E. So why not like
- 46:37Speaker 5: a why situation?
- 46:38Speaker 3: Do that?
