- 0:03Speaker 1: Yeah, let's tee it up and do it. Great to
- 0:06Speaker 1: have with us on the program This morning on the
- 0:07Speaker 1: Morning Show, Jamie Arnold, he is throwing darts once again
- 0:13Speaker 1: for Florida State Baseball and joined us slab on the program.
- 0:16Speaker 1: How are you, sir?
- 0:17Speaker 2: Really good? How are you?
- 0:19Speaker 1: I'm terrific, Jamie. It's a delight to talk with you.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I've watched you pitch now for a few years, and
- 0:24Speaker 1: I gotta say it is a gas watching you throw
- 0:27Speaker 1: the ball because you just get it and go. I
- 0:32Speaker 1: am curious. You know, FSU's been in the World Series
- 0:36Speaker 1: seemingly all the time and they just have never gotten
- 0:41Speaker 1: it across the finish line. Is that something that you
- 0:43Speaker 1: and the guys talk about very much?
- 0:46Speaker 2: It's definitely a thing like just within the program since
- 0:49Speaker 2: I've been here, is like we talk about it during
- 0:51Speaker 2: meetings and stuff. But you know, it's something that every
- 0:55Speaker 2: team hopes to do every year, So it's definitely a
- 0:57Speaker 2: talk of the talk and locker room.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm curious. You're on the Golden Spikes List, and
- 1:02Speaker 1: that is a list of baseball players considered to be
- 1:05Speaker 1: the best in the country. The scouts say you could
- 1:08Speaker 1: be the first or second pick in the upcoming Major
- 1:10Speaker 1: League draft. When did you know that you were good
- 1:14Speaker 1: enough to have this type of career in front of you?
- 1:18Speaker 2: Didn't really hit me until last year, like right before
- 1:21Speaker 2: the season, around Christmas break. I kind of I started
- 1:24Speaker 2: throwing a little harder then and I kind of realized, Hey,
- 1:27Speaker 2: if I if I pitched it this year, I could
- 1:29Speaker 2: make this happen. So that that was really the moment
- 1:31Speaker 2: for me.
- 1:33Speaker 1: You you determined that you needed to get a third
- 1:35Speaker 1: pitch as well. You've You've always had a great slider
- 1:38Speaker 1: in fastball, but that change up is making a difference
- 1:40Speaker 1: this season.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I would think, yes, sair Has that was a big
- 1:44Speaker 2: thing for me going into the year, was to devolop
- 1:46Speaker 2: that third pitch and doll with coach Posey all that
- 1:49Speaker 2: and we made it happen. So it's been huge for
- 1:51Speaker 2: this year. I've loved throwing it.
- 1:52Speaker 1: You know, besides being a gifted pitcher. One of the
- 1:55Speaker 1: things that I mean, the people that I watch games with,
- 1:58Speaker 1: we always comment when you're on the hill, and I
- 2:00Speaker 1: think you've impacted your teammates a lot, is you might
- 2:04Speaker 1: be the fastest pitcher on the mound I've ever seen,
- 2:07Speaker 1: and I'm not talking velocity, you know what I'm talking about.
- 2:10Speaker 1: You get the ball, and you get the pitch, and
- 2:13Speaker 1: you go. You don't waste any time. You're not walking
- 2:16Speaker 1: around the mound, you're not doing a bunch of gymnastics
- 2:19Speaker 1: out there. When did you develop this fast means of pitching?
- 2:25Speaker 2: That's just all I talked though, And I think I
- 2:26Speaker 2: get in a good rhythm that I roll with it
- 2:29Speaker 2: so ever since I started throwing. I mean, that's how
- 2:32Speaker 2: that's how I've operated out there, So that's how I pitched.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I'm curious. You know, teams are doing what they can
- 2:39Speaker 1: to disrupt your rhythm. Step out of the box, take
- 2:42Speaker 1: as many breaks as possible, get a talk from the coach,
- 2:45Speaker 1: whatever they can do. Does it make you a little
- 2:48Speaker 1: angry or does it make you laugh?
- 2:51Speaker 2: I mean it's kind of a little bit of both. Honestly,
- 2:53Speaker 2: I think I laugh it off and then you know,
- 2:55Speaker 2: it kind of just gives me an edge to that
- 2:56Speaker 2: next pitch. So it's a little bit of both.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I'm curious. You've got North Carolina coming in. It's a
- 3:02Speaker 1: very important series to the potential hosting of a not
- 3:06Speaker 1: just a regional, but a super regional in Tallahassee. What
- 3:10Speaker 1: does a week look like for you? You pitch on
- 3:13Speaker 1: a Friday. Now you're prepping for a really good team.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Take us just a snapshot through what that week is like.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Yeah, so we finished pitching this week, or I finished
- 3:24Speaker 2: pitching this week. We were in California, so it was
- 3:26Speaker 2: a little different. We flew back and got back on Monday.
- 3:31Speaker 2: We flew back Monday, got back here, So yesterday we
- 3:35Speaker 2: had a light day and then honestly, like I do
- 3:37Speaker 2: the same thing every week, just getting ready for my
- 3:39Speaker 2: getting ready for the start. I left like three times
- 3:42Speaker 2: throughout the week and then just get my mind prepared,
- 3:44Speaker 2: drinking a lot of water and seeting healthy and you know,
- 3:48Speaker 2: just doing those things.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Is there a scouting report that you look through and
- 3:52Speaker 1: try to figure out with Micah and link how to
- 3:54Speaker 1: pitch the team.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yeah, we suppose he does a good job going through
- 3:59Speaker 2: all that with us, and he'll make a complete report
- 4:02Speaker 2: and I give it to me a couple of days
- 4:03Speaker 2: before that I can look at and just kind of
- 4:05Speaker 2: get a read on what they do. But you know,
- 4:07Speaker 2: I've like I've watched you and see enough to kind
- 4:09Speaker 2: of know their tendencies this year, and like what they're doing.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I could sit and talk about this all day long,
- 4:15Speaker 1: but I think it's more important than we talk a
- 4:16Speaker 1: little bit about cystic fibrosis. Tell us about your good
- 4:19Speaker 1: friend Bradley.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Yeah. So, Bradley's an eight year old. He battles sistic
- 4:24Speaker 2: fibrosis and you know, his family has been huge fans
- 4:28Speaker 2: of Florida State for a long time before I've been there,
- 4:32Speaker 2: and you know, I've got to know them over the years,
- 4:34Speaker 2: but my mom especially got close with their parents, their
- 4:37Speaker 2: Bradley's parents, and luckily I was able to start this
- 4:42Speaker 2: foundation and start raising money for Bradley because you know,
- 4:45Speaker 2: what he goes through is very tough and it's not
- 4:47Speaker 2: something you expect an eight year old to have to
- 4:50Speaker 2: go through every day. And you know, you she me
- 4:51Speaker 2: at the field and he's the happiest kid ever. But yeah,
- 4:54Speaker 2: it's it's a very hard game that they're dealing with,
- 4:57Speaker 2: and I'm just lucky that I'm able to help them
- 4:59Speaker 2: in any way.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Tell us about K Time for Cystic Fibrosis.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Yeah, so I donate twenty five dollars for every strikeout
- 5:07Speaker 2: and it goes directly to the West Florida Citus Fibrosis
- 5:11Speaker 2: foundation and CSUS fibrosus has no found cure yet. So
- 5:17Speaker 2: everyone he struggles with it is deal with it, and
- 5:20Speaker 2: everybody that deals with it battle like it's different for everyone.
- 5:24Speaker 2: So Bradley has it a little worse than most people.
- 5:27Speaker 2: So you know, I'm just trying to do anything I
- 5:29Speaker 2: can to help them.
- 5:31Speaker 1: I would imagine that there are ways that people can
- 5:34Speaker 1: pay maybe join up with you and help support the cause.
- 5:38Speaker 1: How can they do that?
- 5:40Speaker 2: Yeah, so there's a link on my social media whatever
- 5:44Speaker 2: that you can directly donate to the foundation. I think
- 5:48Speaker 2: we've raised we just reached the ten thousand marks. Nice,
- 5:51Speaker 2: you get huge. I think I've donated two thousand myself,
- 5:55Speaker 2: So we've got a lot of money just from other people,
- 5:57Speaker 2: which is awesome. It's a blessing that the been able
- 6:00Speaker 2: to come to this.
- 6:02Speaker 1: He's being humble. Is social media. I'll tell everybody, I've
- 6:05Speaker 1: already linked it on our social media page. It's underscore.
- 6:08Speaker 1: It's at underscore Jamie Arnold thirteen, and that's on the
- 6:12Speaker 1: X page. Jamie. I don't want to just like blow
- 6:18Speaker 1: you up here, but dude, there are not a lot
- 6:21Speaker 1: of guys in college sports in this era of nil
- 6:24Speaker 1: thinking outside of themselves. And I am really proud that
- 6:29Speaker 1: you're a seminole, and I'm proud more importantly of your
- 6:32Speaker 1: concern for others and Bradley in particular. And I just
- 6:37Speaker 1: wish you nothing but the success that I think is
- 6:39Speaker 1: coming your way. And thank you so much for all
- 6:42Speaker 1: that you're doing to help that young man. Appre sire
- 6:48Speaker 1: that Jamie, best of luck this week, and maybe we'll
- 6:51Speaker 1: talk again as the season unfolds and raise a little
- 6:54Speaker 1: bit more money for your buddy and for cistic fibrosis.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Thanks very much, thank you, thank you for having me
- 7:00Speaker 1: Jamie Arnold with us this morning. And again I want
- 7:03Speaker 1: to just I wanted to take a second on the
- 7:04Speaker 1: other side here to make sure that you get that
- 7:06Speaker 1: it's at underscore Jamie Arnold thirteen on X and there
- 7:11Speaker 1: are links there to the it's right there underneath his photo.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Now let me go back to baseball here. He is
- 7:21Speaker 1: a nasty pitcher and it is so much fun to
- 7:27Speaker 1: watch him pitch because the pace in which he throws it,
- 7:34Speaker 1: it rattles hitters. He catches the ball, he looks for
- 7:38Speaker 1: the pitch on his wrist, what pitch are they calling?
- 7:43Speaker 1: And he throws there is no time wasted, and batters
- 7:46Speaker 1: hate it, hate it. He's throwing at this. You know,
- 7:50Speaker 1: I'm a lefty, and so he throws at this kind
- 7:52Speaker 1: of sort of three quarters arm slot and the ball
- 7:56Speaker 1: stays a little behind him, a little longer. They can't
- 7:59Speaker 1: pick up. When he's dealing, it is fun and he's
- 8:03Speaker 1: raising money. How cool is it to hear that he's
- 8:06Speaker 1: taken his money out of his pocket and giving it
- 8:09Speaker 1: for this in honor of this young man. That is
- 8:12Speaker 1: a relationship with so support it, seminal fans and even
- 8:15Speaker 1: those of you that might not be forty seven past
- 8:18Speaker 1: the hour
