- 0:22Ron Meyers: Hello, my friends.
- 0:24Ron Meyers: It is so good to be with you today.
- 0:27Ron Meyers: Easter weekend brings back many fond memories of my childhood.
- 0:32Ron Meyers: Easter weekend was probably something like a lot of you do.
- 0:36Ron Meyers: Just get together, dress up, go to church, family dinner, hide Easter eggs, little Easter baskets for the kids, and everybody having a fun family time.
- 0:48Ron Meyers: It's a shame that twice a year Christmas and Easter brings families together for some very special things.
- 0:54Ron Meyers: But shouldn't every day be like Easter or Christmas?
- 1:00Ron Meyers: And just enjoying the presence of Jesus.
- 1:03Ron Meyers: I'm Ron Myers, and this is a show called Get the Hell Out of Your Life: Real Stories, Real Struggles, and Real Hope.
- 1:10Ron Meyers: And today I don't have a guest, so I have a special program for you, something very personal.
- 1:17Ron Meyers: You know, what is my Easter story?
- 1:20Ron Meyers: We all have an Easter story.
- 1:21Ron Meyers: You know, where God came into our lives and changed everything about us.
- 1:28Ron Meyers: He resurrected that dream and purpose in each of us.
- 1:32Ron Meyers: And Easter is a story that goes on day in and day out until we leave this world.
- 1:39Ron Meyers: So I want to share something with you today, very personal.
- 1:41Ron Meyers: It's from my book, chapter one.
- 1:43Ron Meyers: It's called The Voice.
- 1:45Ron Meyers: But before I start, I just want to say a couple things.
- 1:48Ron Meyers: This show really has a heart for those that don't go to church.
- 1:53Ron Meyers: Church isn't your thing, or maybe churches hurt you, because Jesus is not limited to only doing work in a building where people attend.
- 2:03Ron Meyers: No, Jesus is a personal God.
- 2:06Ron Meyers: He comes in, our life, he moves in, cleans house, and he never leaves.
- 2:11Ron Meyers: That's right.
- 2:12Ron Meyers: Once you have Jesus inside you, he never leaves.
- 2:15Ron Meyers: You can't kick him out.
- 2:17Ron Meyers: You can't behave your way out of a relationship with Jesus.
- 2:21Ron Meyers: His grace is limitless.
- 2:24Ron Meyers: So what a blessing, what an opportunity, what a privilege to share some stories and some time with you today to brag about Jesus.
- 2:33Ron Meyers: And my story, the one I'm going to share, my Easter story of rescue, purpose, and new life.
- 2:39Ron Meyers: I share it because we all have an encounter with God at one time in our life, don't we?
- 2:44Ron Meyers: And if you haven't had an encounter with God that he introduces his son Jesus to you, well, you're going to one day.
- 2:53Ron Meyers: You will.
- 2:53Ron Meyers: And perhaps maybe it's today.
- 2:56Ron Meyers: And one of the most powerful truths about Easter is this that God writes himself into our story.
- 3:03Ron Meyers: What I mean is God is so loving, so cool, that he came to earth.
- 3:11Ron Meyers: The Bible says the word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
- 3:17Ron Meyers: And Jesus said the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost.
- 3:21Ron Meyers: So how does he save the lost?
- 3:23Ron Meyers: How is he going to reach us?
- 3:25Ron Meyers: Well, most of the time in my stories that I've had for over the last seven years validate this.
- 3:31Ron Meyers: Most people that I know met Jesus when they got to the end of themselves.
- 3:38Ron Meyers: They were tired, they were desperate.
- 3:40Ron Meyers: They didn't know what to do.
- 3:42Ron Meyers: And see, that is what the incarnation is so beautiful about.
- 3:46Ron Meyers: That God created us, he sees us, he sees us struggling, searching.
- 3:52Ron Meyers: Sometimes we're flailing, sometimes we're sinking.
- 3:55Ron Meyers: And he does not stand at a distance.
- 3:57Ron Meyers: He doesn't say, Well, clean up your act and then come to me and I'll fix you up.
- 4:02Ron Meyers: No, he loved us so much that he writes himself into our story.
- 4:08Ron Meyers: A lot of you right now, maybe you don't have that relationship with God.
- 4:13Ron Meyers: That's okay, no judgment here.
- 4:15Ron Meyers: I'm glad you're listening.
- 4:17Ron Meyers: But if you look back in the rearview mirror of your life, I absolutely believe you will see how God has been a part of your story.
- 4:26Ron Meyers: How many times were you in the right place at the right time, got the right call at the right time?
- 4:31Ron Meyers: And how many times did bad things happen to you?
- 4:34Ron Meyers: But a year later, that bad thing ended up to be one of the best things that's ever happened in your life.
- 4:41Ron Meyers: Because it takes us to get tired of being sick and tired.
- 4:44Ron Meyers: It takes us to basically almost hit bottom in the emotional scale and say, I need help.
- 4:50Ron Meyers: Jesus, I can't do this anymore.
- 4:52Ron Meyers: So I'm so glad to share something with you today.
- 4:55Ron Meyers: And it's really how God shared himself with me, how he wrote himself into my story as a youngster.
- 5:03Ron Meyers: And I was going to cash in.
- 5:05Ron Meyers: I was going to end my life.
- 5:08Ron Meyers: But something happened.
- 5:09Ron Meyers: So I want to share that with you today.
- 5:11Ron Meyers: Today's episode is from my book, chapter one.
- 5:14Ron Meyers: It's called The Voice.
- 5:16Ron Meyers: And this is my story of being resurrected into a new life with Jesus, a life that has been nothing I could have ever imagined.
- 5:25Ron Meyers: It is absolutely amazing the things that I have been able to do in my life, and I never was trained or even desired to do what I'm doing.
- 5:34Ron Meyers: But Jesus, when he is part of you, he inspires you with ideas and directs you down certain paths and roads that are incredible.
- 5:45Ron Meyers: And I've always said he does this so we can never take credit.
- 5:50Ron Meyers: I can't take credit for what I'm doing today here on the radio or on a podcast.
- 5:56Ron Meyers: Because Jesus inspired me with the idea.
- 6:00Ron Meyers: And people often ask me, Ron, you're very passionate about Jesus, aren't you?
- 6:05Ron Meyers: Yes, it's not just belief, but I'm addicted to Jesus.
- 6:10Ron Meyers: He's my life, he's my friend, he's my mentor, he's my savior, and he's my king.
- 6:15Ron Meyers: Why?
- 6:15Ron Meyers: Because he saved my life.
- 6:17Ron Meyers: He saved my life, and because of him today, I've had a good life.
- 6:22Ron Meyers: Oh, I've had a lot, of lot of troubles.
- 6:25Ron Meyers: But I have a family, grandchildren.
- 6:28Ron Meyers: I have so many things that I'm so grateful and blessed to have in my life.
- 6:33Ron Meyers: And that's why every week I like to share a message with you to just brag about my Jesus.
- 6:40Ron Meyers: So let me tell you about the moment in my life where everything almost ended.
- 6:46Ron Meyers: Not as a grown man, not after years of mistakes, but as a scrawny little kid who didn't know anything really about life or God growing up in Iowa.
- 6:58Ron Meyers: I was alone, confused, and convinced I didn't matter.
- 7:01Ron Meyers: And in that moment, when I believed the world would be better without me, I heard a voice.
- 7:08Ron Meyers: That's right, friends.
- 7:09Ron Meyers: I heard a voice, not loud, not demanding, but undeniable.
- 7:13Ron Meyers: It said, Ronnie, don't hurt yourself.
- 7:15Ron Meyers: I love you.
- 7:16Ron Meyers: I have a plan for you.
- 7:17Ron Meyers: And that voice has never left me.
- 7:20Ron Meyers: So today's show is my Easter message of hope, peace, and purpose.
- 7:26Ron Meyers: Easter isn't just about what happened to Jesus.
- 7:30Ron Meyers: It's about what happens to us.
- 7:33Ron Meyers: From darkness into life, from confusion into purpose, from believing lies to discovering truth.
- 7:42Ron Meyers: So let me take you back to my childhood growing up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
- 7:46Ron Meyers: I wasn't the one teachers bragged about.
- 7:49Ron Meyers: And I surely wasn't the smart kid.
- 7:52Ron Meyers: I wasn't the star of the Little League baseball team.
- 7:55Ron Meyers: I was the kid on the bench.
- 7:57Ron Meyers: That's right, even my own dad, my coach, he coached me in Little League.
- 8:01Ron Meyers: And he'd say, Not yet.
- 8:03Ron Meyers: You gotta sit this one out.
- 8:05Ron Meyers: I knew I wasn't any good at baseball.
- 8:07Ron Meyers: I could barely hit the ball.
- 8:09Ron Meyers: I could barely catch the ball.
- 8:11Ron Meyers: But come on, dad, I'm your son.
- 8:13Ron Meyers: Let me play.
- 8:14Ron Meyers: And then you tell yourself, ah, it's just a game.
- 8:18Ron Meyers: But when it keeps happening, it starts to feel like it's not just baseball.
- 8:23Ron Meyers: It's you.
- 8:24Ron Meyers: I started to really say, Man, am I good at anything?
- 8:28Ron Meyers: Now on the outside, we look like that perfect little suburban family growing up in a nice little neighborhood.
- 8:35Ron Meyers: But on the inside, I felt like the odd one out.
- 8:39Ron Meyers: I was the black sheep, the one who couldn't get it right.
- 8:42Ron Meyers: And when you constantly hear you will never amount to anything, you're too much to handle, you begin to believe it.
- 8:52Ron Meyers: And then something shifts.
- 8:54Ron Meyers: You don't just hear those voices anymore, you start repeating them.
- 9:00Ron Meyers: You start telling yourself, I'm no good, I'm not going to amount to anything.
- 9:07Ron Meyers: Let me be honest.
- 9:08Ron Meyers: I wasn't just misunderstood, according to my mom.
- 9:12Ron Meyers: I was a juvenile delinquent.
- 9:14Ron Meyers: I was a class clown troublemaker, always pushing the limits.
- 9:19Ron Meyers: But you know, I think about this a lot.
- 9:21Ron Meyers: I was the class clown for that minute, two minutes, I had the class looking at me, laughing at me because I did something sometimes so stupid.
- 9:35Ron Meyers: And I was always sent to the principal's office.
- 9:38Ron Meyers: Was it worth it?
- 9:39Ron Meyers: Absolutely.
- 9:40Ron Meyers: Because underneath all of that, I was hungry.
- 9:43Ron Meyers: I was starving for attention.
- 9:46Ron Meyers: I was hungry to be seen, hungry to be valued, and hungry to feel like I mattered.
- 9:54Ron Meyers: My life mattered.
- 9:55Ron Meyers: Because when I got a laugh for a moment from the class, I wasn't invisible.
- 10:01Ron Meyers: I was the star of the show.
- 10:03Ron Meyers: But eventually, you just don't fight all those negative feelings that come into your life.
- 10:08Ron Meyers: You just say, well, I guess that's that's how I was born.
- 10:12Ron Meyers: But here's the best part God was getting ready to write himself into my story.
- 10:18Ron Meyers: Out of seven kids, I was the only one that went to a Catholic school.
- 10:24Ron Meyers: Now, if you have listened to this show for a long time, you know recently I've been talking about it seems like things are rigged in life, that God rigs situations or encounters with people because he's setting us up for something that's coming down the road.
- 10:42Ron Meyers: So, as I said, I was the only one that went to a Catholic school, not because I was special, but because I was the problem.
- 10:49Ron Meyers: The public school told my parents, we can't handle your son anymore.
- 10:54Ron Meyers: You need to take your son and get some psychiatric exams.
- 10:58Ron Meyers: And then we'll talk about him coming back to school.
- 11:02Ron Meyers: Well, my dad took me to the University of Iowa where they did all these tests and I was doing puzzles and seeing shapes and images.
- 11:10Ron Meyers: They came back and said, Vron has a few issues.
- 11:13Ron Meyers: He's got a high IQ and he is bored with school.
- 11:17Ron Meyers: He needs a stricter environment.
- 11:20Ron Meyers: Well, at that time, that felt like rejection.
- 11:24Ron Meyers: I was gonna leave a public school where all my friends were, my brothers were, my sister was, and go to a Catholic school all by myself.
- 11:33Ron Meyers: I didn't know anybody on that side of town because we lived on the west side of town where, you know, the middle class lived, and all the rich kids went over to the Catholic school.
- 11:45Ron Meyers: But now I see it differently.
- 11:47Ron Meyers: That was God setting me up.
- 11:50Ron Meyers: He was getting ready to write himself into my story because I did not learn about Jesus at home.
- 11:58Ron Meyers: I learned about Jesus from the nuns and the priest.
- 12:03Ron Meyers: And if I don't go to that Catholic school, I never hear about him.
- 12:06Ron Meyers: If I never hear about him, I would have never recognized his voice.
- 12:11Ron Meyers: If I never recognize his voice, I don't survive what came next.
- 12:19Ron Meyers: So here's the morning that changed everything.
- 12:22Ron Meyers: Before sunrise, the house was quiet.
- 12:24Ron Meyers: Too quiet, actually.
- 12:26Ron Meyers: Have you ever noticed that how everything seems to slow down when you're about to make a decision you cannot undo?
- 12:34Ron Meyers: And I made a decision.
- 12:36Ron Meyers: I can't do this anymore.
- 12:40Ron Meyers: I was going to end my life.
- 12:43Ron Meyers: And then I thought, when I'm gone, then they'll notice me.
- 12:47Ron Meyers: They'll wish they treated me better.
- 12:49Ron Meyers: In that desperation plea in my mind that I needed to end it, I heard something.
- 12:56Ron Meyers: I heard a voice, a beautiful voice.
- 12:59Ron Meyers: And the voice said, Ronnie, don't hurt yourself.
- 13:02Ron Meyers: I love you.
- 13:03Ron Meyers: I have a plan for you.
- 13:05Ron Meyers: I heard that.
- 13:06Ron Meyers: Not outside of me, but inside of me.
- 13:08Ron Meyers: It was clear, it was gentle, and it was full of something I never had felt before in my life.
- 13:14Ron Meyers: Love.
- 13:15Ron Meyers: And just like that, Jesus showed up.
- 13:18Ron Meyers: And I knew it was Jesus because of Sister Mary Catherine.
- 13:22Ron Meyers: She said, Jesus will talk to you when you need him to.
- 13:27Ron Meyers: And he did that day.
- 13:30Ron Meyers: He showed up in a room in a house where he had no business being.
- 13:35Ron Meyers: We didn't even talk about Jesus at the house.
- 13:38Ron Meyers: We were those Christians that went to church on Easter and Christmas.
- 13:43Ron Meyers: We didn't talk about Jesus at home.
- 13:45Ron Meyers: So that day, that voice changed everything.
- 13:49Ron Meyers: It wasn't just a moment.
- 13:52Ron Meyers: That was the beginning of a relationship.
- 13:54Ron Meyers: Because from that day on, I started talking to him.
- 13:57Ron Meyers: I walked the streets, I talked to him, and it wasn't religion, it wasn't rules.
- 14:03Ron Meyers: I was developing a relationship that would grow stronger over the next 40, 50, 60 years in a tight relationship.
- 14:15Ron Meyers: And looking back now, through every bad decision, every wrong turn, and I've made a lot of wrong turns, and every moment I thought ruined my life, that voice, Jesus, never left me.
- 14:29Ron Meyers: He counseled me, he disciplined me, he showed me the path to take.
- 14:34Ron Meyers: And when I failed and I sat there and I was miserable and I cried, why did this happen to me?
- 14:41Ron Meyers: That voice comforted me.
- 14:44Ron Meyers: And friends, that is why I am addicted to Jesus.
- 14:49Ron Meyers: He has never let me down.
- 14:51Ron Meyers: He will never let you down.
- 14:52Ron Meyers: He has never laughed at me.
- 14:54Ron Meyers: He will never laugh at you.
- 14:55Ron Meyers: He will never call you stupid.
- 14:57Ron Meyers: He will never tell you your life doesn't matter.
- 15:00Ron Meyers: He will never do anything except build you up, inspire you, and encourage you, and empower you to become the person he created you to be.
- 15:09Ron Meyers: I know he did that to me.
- 15:11Ron Meyers: And I didn't go to a seminary, I didn't go to school.
- 15:14Ron Meyers: I let Jesus teach me.
- 15:16Ron Meyers: When you hold on to Jesus as if your life depends on it, and mine did, it is the best thing you'll ever do.
- 15:26Ron Meyers: Because then Jesus does what he does best.
- 15:30Ron Meyers: Minister to us, speak to us, heal us, love us.
- 15:34Ron Meyers: He literally loved the hell out of my life.
- 15:38Ron Meyers: Now here's the Easter message.
- 15:41Ron Meyers: Easter says your story is not over.
- 15:44Ron Meyers: Nope.
- 15:44Ron Meyers: Darkness doesn't win.
- 15:46Ron Meyers: Despair doesn't win.
- 15:47Ron Meyers: Death doesn't win.
- 15:49Ron Meyers: Life wins.
- 15:50Ron Meyers: Jesus wins.
- 15:51Ron Meyers: You are not a misfit to God.
- 15:54Ron Meyers: You've never been a misfit to God.
- 15:56Ron Meyers: You are wanted.
- 15:57Ron Meyers: Your life matters.
- 15:58Ron Meyers: The cross was God telling us, I choose you.
- 16:03Ron Meyers: His resurrection is I'm not leaving you.
- 16:08Ron Meyers: You are not your darkest thought.
- 16:11Ron Meyers: You are not your worst moment.
- 16:13Ron Meyers: And this is what we need to hear more.
- 16:16Ron Meyers: And I don't know why the churches don't talk about this more.
- 16:19Ron Meyers: You are a new creation, unconditionally loved.
- 16:23Ron Meyers: You have limitless grace and you don't climb to Jesus.
- 16:27Ron Meyers: You don't earn your way to Jesus.
- 16:30Ron Meyers: Jesus begins to write our story.
- 16:33Ron Meyers: He comes into your life and then things begin making sense.
- 16:38Ron Meyers: And you know the first thing that he did.
- 16:40Ron Meyers: I remember this as that child of 13 years old.
- 16:44Ron Meyers: When I heard that voice of Jesus to not hurt yourself, I have a plan for you.
- 16:50Ron Meyers: I had a peace.
- 16:51Ron Meyers: I don't know what it was.
- 16:52Ron Meyers: I probably didn't even use that term peace at that age, but I knew that everything would be all right.
- 17:01Ron Meyers: And all the situations in my life that I've had some serious things when my wife left me for the next door neighbor when I was only 21, and I had a two-year-old and a one-year-old, and I became a single dad with two kids.
- 17:15Ron Meyers: I remember that night looking up in the sky, saying, Lord, what am I going to do?
- 17:23Ron Meyers: 21, two kids, and I don't know what to do.
- 17:26Ron Meyers: It was a flashback to sitting on the floor in my bedroom.
- 17:30Ron Meyers: I heard that same thing.
- 17:32Ron Meyers: Everything is going to be okay.
- 17:36Ron Meyers: And friends, I raised those children, and I never, never regretted one bit of it.
- 17:43Ron Meyers: It turned out good.
- 17:44Ron Meyers: When my wife left, it looked like disaster.
- 17:47Ron Meyers: Everybody was saying, How could a wife do that?
- 17:50Ron Meyers: How could a mom do that to their kids?
- 17:52Ron Meyers: But it was my blessing.
- 17:54Ron Meyers: I had the privilege to raise my son Ron Jr.
- 17:58Ron Meyers: and my daughter Dawn until nine years later.
- 18:02Ron Meyers: And then I got married to my current wife.
- 18:05Ron Meyers: God is in the business of taking our mess and turning it into a message that resonates with people all over the world, people in your neighborhood, at your work, your relatives.
- 18:20Ron Meyers: It's all about Jesus.
- 18:22Ron Meyers: I look at these people on TV now that hate Trump, they hate ICE, they hate, hate, hate.
- 18:30Ron Meyers: But yet sometimes they talk about God or how could God do this?
- 18:34Ron Meyers: They don't have a clue who God is.
- 18:37Ron Meyers: Because when you have Jesus in you, when you get squeezed and the world is just coming at you from every single angle, when you get squeezed and that beautiful Jesus is the only thing that comes out, that's what keeps us sane in a crazy goofy world.
- 18:55Ron Meyers: And I'm telling you right now, friends, this Easter message today, where Jesus came to live in you, to write himself into your story, is more important than you probably think.
- 19:07Ron Meyers: Because I do believe times are going to get worse.
- 19:11Ron Meyers: But those that have Christ are going to not have that fear.
- 19:15Ron Meyers: They're going to have a peace.
- 19:17Ron Meyers: They are going to know everything is going to be all right.
- 19:23Ron Meyers: Jesus has our backs.
- 19:24Ron Meyers: Friends, he really does have our back.
- 19:27Ron Meyers: And he's more than just something you talk about and or sing about on Sunday, Easter, or Christmas.
- 19:35Ron Meyers: It's something that you do every minute.
- 19:38Ron Meyers: He's my praise, he's my worship, he's my prayer, he's my life.
- 19:42Ron Meyers: And when he becomes your life, you see through the eyes of grace.
- 19:47Ron Meyers: You hear through the ears of grace.
- 19:49Ron Meyers: You see what nobody else sees, and they don't need to see it because God lets you see it so you can share it with the world.
- 19:57Ron Meyers: We need to begin sharing Jesus.
- 20:00Ron Meyers: And how do we share Jesus?
- 20:01Ron Meyers: We share Jesus by sharing our story.
- 20:04Ron Meyers: We become passionate.
- 20:05Ron Meyers: We tell people what Jesus did for us.
- 20:08Ron Meyers: Friends, I was a youngster, and that day I did not want to live anymore.
- 20:14Ron Meyers: And today I spend my money buying time on radio stations and producing podcasts to tell everyone in the world that Jesus is real.
- 20:27Ron Meyers: He wants to live with you.
- 20:28Ron Meyers: And when the world gets tough and people have tossed you out of their life, or they've terminated you, and you're all alone, or you have a bad doctor's report.
- 20:48Ron Meyers: I'm going to take a break, and when I return, I have some life lessons, some action steps, and a prayer to close out this week's show.
- 20:58Announcer: You're listening to Get the Hell Out of Your Life with your host, Ron Myers.
- 21:03Announcer: Real stories, real struggles, and real hope.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: Here's a refreshing word for you today from Galatians chapter 2, 20.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
- 21:25SPEAKER_03: I was ten and we were in Minnesota.
- 21:27SPEAKER_03: There was this huge animated figure of Paul Bunyan, the legendary giant lumberjack.
- 21:32SPEAKER_03: And as I approached, they suddenly hear him booming out, Hello, Ronnie, freak me out.
- 21:37SPEAKER_03: Turns out my dad tells the ticket guy my name, he tells the guy with the mic.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: All I know is the big guy knew my name.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: Well, you know, that's what's so amazing about Jesus.
- 21:47SPEAKER_03: The biggest guy of all knows your name.
- 21:50SPEAKER_03: It's Easter morning.
- 21:51SPEAKER_03: Mary Magdalene has come to Jesus' tomb as a mourner.
- 21:54SPEAKER_03: She's all alone in the garden weeping, and suddenly she hears a familiar voice Mary.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Jesus is alive and calling her name.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: Well, my friend Jesus is alive and he's calling your name.
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: He went to that cross to pay for your sin so you could have the relationship with him you were made for.
- 22:12SPEAKER_03: And there in your brokenness, he's calling you to him.
- 22:16SPEAKER_03: Today could be your Jesus day.
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: Contact us at 888 Meet Him or chattaboutJesus.com.
- 22:22SPEAKER_03: The risen Christ is calling you.
- 22:26SPEAKER_03: It's not how you live and will change it.
- 22:31SPEAKER_03: You don't like where your head will rearrange.
- 22:44Announcer: Get the hell out of your life.
