Speaker 1: Pretty solid start here for preseason play as the Kraken
• 0:03
Speaker 1: get a pair of goals in the opening frame and
• 0:05
Speaker 1: close it out in a 4-2 victory over the Vancouver
• 0:09
Speaker 1: Canucks to get a W here in their first preseason
• 0:12
Speaker 1: game and it won't take long until they can get
• 0:14
Speaker 1: right back after it. Tomorrow night, wrapping up back-to-back. in
• 0:18
Speaker 1: Calgary for game two of four on the preseason side.
• 0:21
Speaker 1: Mike Betten again with you back to wrap this one
• 0:23
Speaker 1: up here high atop ringside at Climate Pledge Arena. Our
• 0:26
Speaker 1: highlights coming up in a bit plus our final totals
• 0:29
Speaker 1: and a look ahead to what's next as we are
• 0:32
Speaker 1: certainly glad that you joined us here for this one.
• 0:37
Speaker 1: As far as the roster showed here for today, we
• 0:39
Speaker 1: knew that the Kraken would get a heavy dose of youth,
• 0:42
Speaker 1: and certainly as far as offense was concerned, youth was
• 0:45
Speaker 1: spread all across the board here in this one, led
• 0:48
Speaker 1: by Jacob Melanson's pair of assists. But how did this
• 0:51
Speaker 1: one build? We begin in period one early on with
• 0:55
Speaker 1: Logan Morrison earning a great chance to break on through
• 0:58
Speaker 1: for the game's first goal.
• 1:00
Speaker 2: Here comes Morrison down the left side, a two on
• 1:02
Speaker 2: one for Seattle. Morrison shoots, turned aside by Tolopilo and
• 1:06
Speaker 2: deflected up out of play behind him.
• 1:09
Speaker 1: That was Morrison's only shot on net that he had
• 1:11
Speaker 1: back in the first period of play as the Kraken
• 1:14
Speaker 1: in that opening 20 minutes. Out shot Vancouver 9-7. After that,
• 1:18
Speaker 1: a couple of uneventful power plays exchanged between both sides.
• 1:22
Speaker 1: But then Jagger-Ferkus drew a penalty with 12.05 left as
• 1:25
Speaker 1: he went right to the net. Sawyer Meneo was hauled
• 1:27
Speaker 1: off for cross-checking on Vancouver's side. And the Kraken power
• 1:31
Speaker 1: play went right to work.
• 1:34
Speaker 2: Plenty of time left, only 30 seconds gone. In Seattle,
• 1:37
  Speaker 2: second power.
• 1:38
Speaker 1: Play of the night.
• 1:38
Speaker 2: Now Yanni Newman will shoot.
• 1:41
Speaker 1: Scores! Yanni Newman on the power play.
• 1:46
Speaker 2: 11-31 to go in the first period. Seattle a 1-0 lead.
• 1:52
Speaker 3: Yanni Newman with some time and space down that left side.
• 1:55
Speaker 3: Edward Chalet was in front of him. Cut across the
• 1:57
Speaker 3: blue line. He's left that lane on the left.
• 1:59
Speaker 1: Side wide open. He streaked down that side. Beats Filipino.
• 2:04
  Speaker 1: Left side.
• 2:04
  Speaker 2: 1-0.
• 2:05
Speaker 1: Brackett. Step touch from Jake O'Brien helping set up that
• 2:09
Speaker 1: play which happened in transition. Not so much a stationary
• 2:12
Speaker 1: play but Yanni Newman converting off the rush. Catching Nikita
• 2:16
Speaker 1: Tolopilo a bit off guard to make it a 1-0
• 2:19
Speaker 1: game at 8.29. A period one. That goal again coming
• 2:22
Speaker 1: on the power play from Jake O'Brien and K.O.
• 2:25
  Speaker 2: Fleury.
• 2:26
Speaker 1: Down to the final seconds. A period one. Ty Nelson
• 2:30
  Speaker 1: beat the horn.
• 2:31
Speaker 2: Jacob Melanson behind the goal.
• 2:32
Speaker 1: Backhand in front. Turn aside. Ty Nelson scores!
• 2:39
Speaker 2: Ty Nelson in the high slot, follows up the play.
• 2:43
Speaker 1: Steps into a twisted wrister.
• 2:46
Speaker 2: And with just four seconds to play in the first,
• 2:49
  Speaker 2: the Kraken double.
• 2:50
  Speaker 1: Their lead, 2-0.
• 2:52
Speaker 3: Ty Nelson jumped on a loose puck there. That all
• 2:55
Speaker 3: started behind the net. Jacob Alonso forechecking hard, knocks his
• 2:59
Speaker 3: guy off the puck, gets the puck up to the
• 3:01
Speaker 3: front of the net, and it's a puck that's mishandled
• 3:04
Speaker 3: that goes right out to Ty Nelson.
• 3:06
Speaker 1: He finds a top corner.
• 3:08
  Speaker 3: 2-0 Seattle.
• 3:09
Speaker 1: And to Al Koniski's point, a big reason why that
• 3:12
Speaker 1: Jacob Melanson has drawn plenty of attention here in this game.
• 3:14
Speaker 1: He simply won a battle, put the puck on that
• 3:17
Speaker 1: very active in the final seconds, and that enabled Ty
• 3:20
Speaker 1: Nelson to clean things up and make it a 2-0 game.
• 3:23
Speaker 1: He got his first goal of preseason play at 19.55
• 3:25
Speaker 1: from Melanson, and Ryan Lindgren. In the second period, the
• 3:31
Speaker 1: Kraken holding firm, keeping the game scoreless as far as
• 3:34
Speaker 1: that middle frame and holding a 2-0 lead heading into
• 3:37
Speaker 1: period three where a scheduled goaltending change and put Nikkei
• 3:41
Speaker 1: Koko in net after Joey Decord turned in 14 saves
• 3:46
Speaker 1: on 14 shots. But the Kraken weren't done and they
• 3:49
Speaker 1: got right back to work in the first minute of
• 3:52
  Speaker 1: period three.
• 3:53
Speaker 2: Back in the offensive zone, Fisker-Molgaard to Gaudreau, in front,
• 3:56
Speaker 2: Morrison scores! Tic-tac-goal for Lomo. Logan Morrison, bottom of the
• 4:12
Speaker 2: right circle. Gaudreau, a bump pass from the corner, following
• 4:16
Speaker 2: a feed from Fisker-Molgaard, and the Kraken kick the field goal.
• 4:20
Speaker 1: They lead 3-0 early in the third.
• 4:22
Speaker 3: Well, a quick passing is the start of that goal there,
• 4:24
Speaker 3: and as you said, it starts with Oscar Fisker-Molgaard on
• 4:27
Speaker 3: the half wall. He sends a no-look pass down to
• 4:31
Speaker 3: Gaudreau below the goal line, and with one touch, Gaudreau
• 4:34
Speaker 3: puts it right onto Morrison's stick. who snapped at home,
• 4:37
  Speaker 3: 3-0 Seattle.
• 4:39
Speaker 1: That was Morrison's first goal of preseason play, coming just
• 4:42
Speaker 1: 42 seconds into the third period. The Kraken getting their
• 4:44
Speaker 1: second power play goal of the night. And Oscar Fisker-Molgaard,
• 4:48
Speaker 1: his line of five on five creating plenty of buzz,
• 4:50
Speaker 1: but on special teams, he was rewarded as well as
• 4:54
Speaker 1: he had a part of that play. Freddie Gaudreau and
• 4:56
Speaker 1: Fisker-Molgaard had assist on the play to make it. a
• 5:00
Speaker 1: 3-0 game. But the Canucks would finally make their way
• 5:03
Speaker 1: on the board at 11-09, period three with Braden Kutz,
• 5:07
Speaker 1: the former Seattle Thunderbird, converting off a 2-1-1. He beat
• 5:11
Speaker 1: Nikkei Koko clean for his first of the preseason. R.C.
• 5:15
Speaker 1: Baines and Jonathan Lekromacki have the assist on the play
• 5:18
Speaker 1: to make it 3-1. And then things got interesting. Jagger-Ferkus
• 5:22
Speaker 1: in the final minutes of period three was whistled for
• 5:24
Speaker 1: a delay of game, a two-minute penalty for dislodging the
• 5:28
Speaker 1: net back in the zone zone right by Nikkei Koko.
• 5:30
Speaker 1: And with that, Vancouver also calling a timeout with 4.40
• 5:35
Speaker 1: left in period three. Down by two goals and pulling.
• 5:39
Speaker 1: Nikita Tolopilo for the extra attacker, and then their power
• 5:42
Speaker 1: play went right back to work to really make things interesting.
• 5:47
Speaker 2: There's Braden Coutts, near side, sends it in low, to
• 5:51
Speaker 2: the corner for Lekker Mackey, back to Coutts, back door, shot!
• 5:55
Speaker 2: Archdeep Baines, he scores! Canucks to within one, three, two,
• 6:02
Speaker 2: Archdeep Baines points on back-to-back goals, his first of the preseason.
• 6:09
Speaker 1: Now he snuck that one right on by Nike Koko
• 6:12
Speaker 1: from the base of the right circle of 1551 to
• 6:15
Speaker 1: give the Kraken a little bit of a sweat late
• 6:17
Speaker 1: in this game as Baines got the power play goal
• 6:20
Speaker 1: from Kootz and Lekromackie to make it 3-2. But then
• 6:24
Speaker 1: who would step forward here for a big insurance marker?
• 6:27
Speaker 2: 2.35 to play the period.
• 6:30
Speaker 1: Kraken get loose in front.
• 6:31
  Speaker 2: They score.
• 6:33
  Speaker 1: Jake O'Brien.
• 6:37
Speaker 2: Bottom of the left wing circle. In tight with some
• 6:42
Speaker 2: heavy traffic. And pressure on top of him. And the
• 6:46
Speaker 2: Kraken get the insurance goal back. 4-2 with 2.35 left
• 6:51
  Speaker 2: in regulation.
• 6:52
Speaker 3: Yeah, Ben Myers with a good forecheck. Jake Melanson with
• 6:54
Speaker 3: a steal from behind the net. Finds O'Brien posted up
• 6:57
Speaker 3: just above the blue paint. Puts it right on his tape.
• 7:01
Speaker 3: He's got the fourth goal.
• 7:01
  Speaker 1: Of the game.
• 7:02
  Speaker 2: 4-2 Kraken.
• 7:04
Speaker 1: Yeah, that was a sigh of relief coming just one
• 7:06
Speaker 1: minute and 34 seconds after Baines' goal. Jake O'Brien cleaning
• 7:10
Speaker 1: things up for a multi-point night, getting his first as well,
• 7:13
Speaker 1: a preseason play on the goal-scoring side. That coming at
• 7:17
Speaker 1: 17-25 from Jacob Melanson, who had two assists on the evening,
• 7:21
Speaker 1: and that big insurance marker holding up to formally put
• 7:25
Speaker 1: Vancouver to bed. Kraken win this one, 4-2 over the Canucks.
• 7:29
Speaker 1: to open up preseason play at 1-0. Your final shots
• 7:33
Speaker 1: on net in favor of the Kraken at 29-20. And
• 7:36
Speaker 1: that Joey Decord picks up the win, getting 14 saves
• 7:40
Speaker 1: on 14 shots in this game. Nikita Totopilo went all
• 7:44
Speaker 1: the way, taking the loss as he had 25 saves
• 7:48
Speaker 1: on 25 shots. And that bigger part, Nike Koko got
• 7:51
Speaker 1: the win as he relieved Decord in the third period.
• 7:53
Speaker 1: Four saves on six, shots enough on his side. As
• 7:57
Speaker 1: the Kraken again out shooting Vancouver 29-20. Your three stars
• 8:02
Speaker 1: of this one, Jake O'Brien picks up the third star
• 8:04
Speaker 1: of the game. Multi-point knife for him. Also had a
• 8:07
Speaker 1: pair of assists on the evening and a couple of
• 8:09
Speaker 1: blocked shots. So Jake O'Brien not just flashing the offense
• 8:13
Speaker 1: as well, but the little things that coaches certainly look for.
• 8:16
Speaker 1: Jake O'Brien picks up the third star honors in this game.
• 8:19
Speaker 1: Jacob Melanson, he was all over the place and in
• 8:22
Speaker 1: a good way. He picks up the game's second star
• 8:23
Speaker 1: honors this evening with a pair of assists. Also with
• 8:26
Speaker 1: four hits on the evening in 1354 of ice time.
• 8:31
Speaker 1: The kind of game that you're looking for out of
• 8:33
Speaker 1: Melanson when he's at his best. Perhaps if he can
• 8:36
Speaker 1: make this roster, Jacob Melanson picks up the second star
• 8:39
Speaker 1: of the game honors. Logan Morrison is your first star
• 8:43
Speaker 1: of the evening with a goal tonight. Also with three hits,
• 8:46
Speaker 1: he had the eventual game winner. Logan Morrison is our
• 8:49
Speaker 1: first star of the game. As again, the Kraken, 1-0-2.
• 8:53
Speaker 1: and the Canucks 0-1 to begin preseason play. Our next
• 8:57
Speaker 1: broadcast is tomorrow night, wrapping up back-to-back for the Kraken.
• 9:00
