- 1:33Speaker 1: you got to turn the phones off, Brozz. First of all, man,
- 1:37Speaker 1: I feel like I ain't seen you since the pandemic.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Did I see that? I ain't seen you since the pandemic?
- 1:41Speaker 1: You know, did we see each other? I think I
- 1:45Speaker 1: saw you on FaceTime. Yeah, that's probably what it was,
- 1:48Speaker 1: you know, that's seeing people. Yeah, I think. Yeah. It's
- 1:50Speaker 1: been a crazy year. Man. How have you like, uh,
- 1:55Speaker 1: you know, how has the pandemic kind of like has
- 1:58Speaker 1: it affected what you do or what maybe with some
- 2:00Speaker 1: things you had planned? Like how did it kind of
- 2:02Speaker 1: affect life for you? Bro I mean it affected me
- 2:06Speaker 1: like everybody else as far as obviously the slow down
- 2:10Speaker 1: of traveling and work. I mean, I you know what
- 2:13Speaker 1: I'm saying, work traveling all day. So I had like
- 2:17Speaker 1: two overseas tours. I had like an Asia tour, I
- 2:22Speaker 1: had an Australia tour. I had a college run. As
- 2:25Speaker 1: soon as the pandemic hit, all that got shut Yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 1: I know, you do your runs in like the Middle East,
- 2:30Speaker 1: you go to Dubai, you all had a lot to do,
- 2:33Speaker 1: but everything was ready to go for that run, and uh,
- 2:36Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. I had actually was in
- 2:38Speaker 1: Dubai February, and I had heard about everything that was
- 2:42Speaker 1: going on. I was as I was out there and
- 2:43Speaker 1: how it was like these possible lockdowns and da da dah.
- 2:46Speaker 1: And then I made it home just in time, like literally,
- 2:49Speaker 1: I think a couple of days after I made it home,
- 2:51Speaker 1: which actually had made it home. My daughter was born
- 2:54Speaker 1: the day I made it home on Valentine's Day, and
- 2:58Speaker 1: then the whole thing shut down, so I had to
- 3:00Speaker 1: handle all that. Like, so was the day you got
- 3:02Speaker 1: because it was your wife with you in Dubai because
- 3:04Speaker 1: I was with you. She didn't go with you because
- 3:06Speaker 1: she was pregnant, close to delivering. So you know you
- 3:08Speaker 1: got back the day she gave birth. Yeah, so you
- 3:12Speaker 1: can you imagine if you would have gotten the next day. Yeah.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I was in there in the airport, sweat ship. I
- 3:18Speaker 1: gotta get back fast, like hold on, just don't don't
- 3:21Speaker 1: like yeah no, literally in the airport. Hold on, I'm
- 3:23Speaker 1: gonna be it in a minute. Just couples, just chill, yeah,
- 3:27Speaker 1: to layover please, damn. That's crazy. That's baby number two,
- 3:30Speaker 1: baby number two. Wow. And that was different because I
- 3:33Speaker 1: had to like really handle all that, you know what
- 3:36Speaker 1: I'm saying, loo with the crib. Everything was kind of
- 3:39Speaker 1: shut down. We weren't able to go to the hospital.
- 3:41Speaker 1: And then you're being like extra careful because you got
- 3:44Speaker 1: a baby. I was super But I guess that was
- 3:46Speaker 1: easy too, because having a new baby you already super careful.
- 3:49Speaker 1: So I was already stocked up on everything like hand
- 3:52Speaker 1: sanitizers and this and that and everything that people was
- 3:55Speaker 1: panicking over. For a minute. I was a little stocked
- 3:57Speaker 1: up early because I already had to worry. I was.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I was the same way. As soon as we had
- 4:04Speaker 1: a shout out doc Winner. He had like some homie
- 4:06Speaker 1: who worked for I don't know, some government agency and
- 4:09Speaker 1: was like, Yo, this ship's really about to get shut down.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I think it was about a week before it happened.
- 4:13Speaker 1: And I went to Ralphs and just I was that
- 4:15Speaker 1: asshole who had like cases of rom I still in
- 4:18Speaker 1: my garage, still have like a whole entire supply of
- 4:21Speaker 1: ship that is like just sitting there. It's a bunch
- 4:24Speaker 1: of y'all, man because y'all y'all went to the store
- 4:26Speaker 1: and cleaned it out. And then I went to the store.
- 4:29Speaker 1: It was dry. I just I just ran out of
- 4:32Speaker 1: toilet paper. I ain't bought toilet paper in a year.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Yesterday I went down to the closet to see, like,
- 4:37Speaker 1: I gotta go get the new I was like, we
- 4:39Speaker 1: were finally out. Why was everybody so worried about toilet paper?
- 4:43Speaker 1: Because ass paper is like essential, bro, imagine that was
- 4:47Speaker 1: the most essential thing. Like every time you take a ship,
- 4:49Speaker 1: you gotta take a shower. Then if you don't have
- 4:53Speaker 1: the toilet paper, I'm like that too. Listen, if it's
- 4:57Speaker 1: a rough, if it's a rough, if it's one of those,
- 5:00Speaker 1: you got to jump in the shower, you know obviously,
- 5:02Speaker 1: but you know, shout out to my wife. You know,
- 5:04Speaker 1: I'm like, listen, if we're gonna have sexna take shower anyways,
- 5:06Speaker 1: you don't got to worry about it. Nonetheless, damn, So
- 5:10Speaker 1: you're raising an infant during COVID, your wife. You were
- 5:14Speaker 1: just telling me your wife just opened a new business
- 5:15Speaker 1: during COVID. Yeah, so you was just dealing with a
- 5:18Speaker 1: lot of shit. Huh. It was a lot going on.
- 5:20Speaker 1: But I think, you know, I set myself up luckily,
- 5:24Speaker 1: Like I was already working on the gym, so like
- 5:26Speaker 1: everybody who was like dang the gym closed, I was
- 5:30Speaker 1: in the garage getting getting crazy. And then, uh, you
- 5:34Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, I got the studio at the house,
- 5:36Speaker 1: So that was like mandatory of just you know what
- 5:39Speaker 1: I'm saying with the crib. You know what I'm saying,
- 5:41Speaker 1: it's worked. I ain't got nowhere else to go, I
- 5:43Speaker 1: ain't traveling nothing, So it was easier to kind of
- 5:45Speaker 1: think dial in and just be creative and just have
- 5:48Speaker 1: fun because it really wasn't nothing else to think about
- 5:51Speaker 1: or worry about like that. So a lot of this
- 5:52Speaker 1: album did you record it at home? All of it?
- 5:55Speaker 1: All of it recorded at the crib, All of it.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I recorded at the crib, mixed at the crib, at
- 6:00Speaker 1: the crib. Everything was so you kind of rushed this
- 6:03Speaker 1: whole joint. Yeah, man I besides, you've worked with the producer. Yeah,
- 6:08Speaker 1: because of what it is. Man I definitely I put it,
- 6:13Speaker 1: and it took a little longer than I wanted, just
- 6:15Speaker 1: because of course I was telling you earlier. It started
- 6:19Speaker 1: off as like this type of idea and it was
- 6:20Speaker 1: only going to do seven records, and I love these
- 6:23Speaker 1: seven records so much, and I was like, man, I
- 6:25Speaker 1: feel like I need like three more I need And
- 6:27Speaker 1: then it started to grow into this big album and
- 6:30Speaker 1: it turned into a full album. That's why even before
- 6:32Speaker 1: it was like two songs that we had dropped, because
- 6:35Speaker 1: it wasn't really a thought process of doing that album
- 6:37Speaker 1: until we dropped those two songs. And it's seeing how
- 6:40Speaker 1: manyism were working together and how easy it was. Because
- 6:43Speaker 1: I could have put together a project with a bunch
- 6:44Speaker 1: of different producers. I get all kind of beasts. I
- 6:46Speaker 1: still got so many different records, but the business still,
- 6:50Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, takes time and clearing people,
- 6:52Speaker 1: and there's much easier to just work with one guy.
- 6:55Speaker 1: We got an agreement and get it done, especially when
- 6:58Speaker 1: you're not working with the big label who you know
- 7:01Speaker 1: what I'm saying, maybe a lot of those people are
- 7:02Speaker 1: already cleared your label, or it's just an easier system
- 7:05Speaker 1: where you know what I'm saying, I'm independent, and we
- 7:08Speaker 1: got to handle a lot of clearing and making sure
- 7:11Speaker 1: these are selling points and publishing and keeping track of
- 7:13Speaker 1: all that stuff. And it was like, Ism is the homie.
- 7:16Speaker 1: He's been the homie. We've already had records together, and
- 7:19Speaker 1: he's nice and he's a gold low key and so
- 7:22Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, We just it was somebody
- 7:24Speaker 1: I felt like I could work with and get so
- 7:26Speaker 1: many different type of records done compared to you know
- 7:28Speaker 1: what I'm saying, if I worked with some other producer,
- 7:30Speaker 1: maybe it would just all sound to the same to
- 7:33Speaker 1: where it still sounds cohesive. But it's not like box tend. So, uh,
- 7:38Speaker 1: when you first went independent, you came on me and
- 7:40Speaker 1: had shown and like we did an interview, announced it
- 7:42Speaker 1: and you know, made a big deal of it. You've
- 7:45Speaker 1: been independent for a while, now, what are the thing
- 7:48Speaker 1: I mean? You started off independent, this is how you
- 7:51Speaker 1: came into the game. You know, what I'm saying, by
- 7:53Speaker 1: the way, is up in the way gold Now yeah,
- 7:58Speaker 1: I think so, I know records off of it are
- 8:01Speaker 1: gold or definitely records are you know, I don't, I
- 8:03Speaker 1: gotta it's got to be closing with all the numbers.
- 8:06Speaker 1: But I just waiting and be giving me placks like yo,
- 8:08Speaker 1: this would gold. Then it feels great when the indie
- 8:11Speaker 1: records go go because like, plus, that's more money in
- 8:14Speaker 1: the bank, you know what I mean, more money in
- 8:16Speaker 1: the bank, and it just you know what I'm saying
- 8:17Speaker 1: makes me feel a little bit more like you know
- 8:20Speaker 1: what I'm saying, even now with just records like I
- 8:22Speaker 1: did all this dolo, some of them in the closet,
- 8:24Speaker 1: like you know, for it was any bread and those
- 8:27Speaker 1: records got plaques. Now they definitely still mean a little
- 8:30Speaker 1: bit more sometimes and those other records that I kind
- 8:32Speaker 1: of knew we're gonna go, like that's gonna go, It's
- 8:35Speaker 1: gonna be it's gonna be one. No. But like coming
- 8:39Speaker 1: back to being independent and being back in that space
- 8:42Speaker 1: for a while now, like what are the things that
- 8:46Speaker 1: you've kind of like had to adjust two that you
- 8:49Speaker 1: weren't used to with being with RCA, for so long
- 8:51Speaker 1: because you had a very long run with RCA. Adjusting
- 8:55Speaker 1: I mean, I guess, you know, because it's everything is
- 9:01Speaker 1: more hands on, Like I said, clearances and just certain
- 9:05Speaker 1: things as far as the business are probably a little
- 9:08Speaker 1: bit more, but I'm not as you know what I'm saying.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Luckily I got will you know what I'm saying, helped
- 9:13Speaker 1: me with the business side of things, while I still
- 9:15Speaker 1: have to do the creative side. But I mean, of
- 9:18Speaker 1: course relationships might be a little bit different. You know,
- 9:23Speaker 1: for me going independent, I'll tell you know that I
- 9:27Speaker 1: don't get an independent rate. So everything that's like was
- 9:32Speaker 1: already what it was, or features or production costs, a
- 9:35Speaker 1: lot of that stuff is still the same as when
- 9:37Speaker 1: Kittink was with RCA. So I think that's still just
- 9:41Speaker 1: coming out of my bags, you know what I'm saying.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I guess you know, those are certain things you gotta
- 9:45Speaker 1: probably adjust to more than you know what I'm saying,
- 9:48Speaker 1: when you are a little bit more free with doing
- 9:50Speaker 1: certain things or samples and you know, just keeping it
- 9:55Speaker 1: a little bit more in house so you don't have
- 9:57Speaker 1: to worry about all these other stresses that you were
- 10:00Speaker 1: able to let somebody else worry about, right, because it's
- 10:02Speaker 1: a whole team of all the variables you now got
- 10:05Speaker 1: to deal with, supposed to keeping it kind of like
- 10:07Speaker 1: like you said, like, hey, when with one producer, I
- 10:09Speaker 1: means we gotta do with one guy to get these
- 10:10Speaker 1: records clear, ye, opposed to like getting you know what
- 10:15Speaker 1: I'm saying, stuff back and you be it's just the
- 10:18Speaker 1: business come back and you be like DANMG, why y'all
- 10:20Speaker 1: gotta make this so difficult, Like you know what I'm saying.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I'm just I'm rocking, like we're doing independent. Let's just
- 10:25Speaker 1: put something out. Let's just work everybody wants to Yeah,
- 10:28Speaker 1: not even like we'll figure it out and I'm gonna
- 10:30Speaker 1: make sure everybody's taking care of it, not most importantly,
- 10:32Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, make sure you get your
- 10:33Speaker 1: bag up front. But I think when it comes down
- 10:36Speaker 1: to all that extra points and publishing stuff that I
- 10:40Speaker 1: don't my brain don't get all the way into like that,
- 10:43Speaker 1: I started getting confused, Like, man, that's been a month
- 10:45Speaker 1: since we've been talking about all this. I don't even
- 10:48Speaker 1: want to do this record no more, Like I wanted
- 10:49Speaker 1: to put this out in this timeframe right now, and
- 10:52Speaker 1: I've had that happen where I didn't get a record
- 10:55Speaker 1: out when I wanted to put it out because the
- 10:56Speaker 1: business took so long. And then it's like, bro, I
- 10:59Speaker 1: just this was a summer. Now it's November, and you
- 11:01Speaker 1: just want me to feel like I got the same energy.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I'm gonna get the same response from this. So again,
- 11:07Speaker 1: working with Isam, it was like, all right, I could
- 11:09Speaker 1: lock these records and I could tell him this is
- 11:11Speaker 1: my beat, like I want to lock this in and
- 11:13Speaker 1: I don't have to worry about two weeks later, a
- 11:16Speaker 1: month later, he telled me like, yo, I sold I
- 11:18Speaker 1: saw that beat. I gave it to someone, the one
- 11:20Speaker 1: that you had, Like I gave it someone else. And
- 11:23Speaker 1: it's crazy what happens to me four times a year
- 11:28Speaker 1: because you know, producers just be sending out packs and
- 11:30Speaker 1: then records that I felt like, oh, this is my single,
- 11:33Speaker 1: and unfortunately and then they'd be like, well, look this
- 11:35Speaker 1: other guy's got it, and you know it's a major label.
- 11:37Speaker 1: It's a bigger bag, right, And then I'm gonna, of
- 11:40Speaker 1: course I want to tell you like nah, but I'm
- 11:42Speaker 1: not gonna tell my homie, like especially somebody I rock with,
- 11:45Speaker 1: like don't go get the bag and make you know.
- 11:47Speaker 1: It's definitely a trade now and I'm gonna let you
- 11:49Speaker 1: go get this bag, bro, So take care of me
- 11:51Speaker 1: the next go around. Take care me these packs when
- 11:53Speaker 1: you get hot, don't don't forget. But you know it
- 11:57Speaker 1: is what it is. So you have like a pretty
- 11:59Speaker 1: wild journey as far as like you're come up. You
- 12:02Speaker 1: came up with like a just a crazy culte following
- 12:05Speaker 1: fan base, mixtapes, your first independent album, and then when
- 12:11Speaker 1: you signed, you caught one would show me. That was
- 12:16Speaker 1: like fucking how many streams is that thing? How many
- 12:19Speaker 1: times platinum is that record? I mean, I don't know.
- 12:22Speaker 1: It definitely went on one of Chris Brown's like records,
- 12:25Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, breaking records for Chris It's
- 12:30Speaker 1: but it wasn't. Let's let's be real though. It wasn't
- 12:33Speaker 1: as if I got signed though, and then like showed
- 12:36Speaker 1: me came out. No, no, no, you were putting out
- 12:38Speaker 1: other records. But we did. We did try like the
- 12:40Speaker 1: Meek Mill right, the Badass record, and I had a
- 12:44Speaker 1: couple other singles and I think what was the one
- 12:46Speaker 1: lifted produced it? Fuck? It had like a screwed up
- 12:50Speaker 1: like hook the Boston Up. We had the Boston Up
- 12:54Speaker 1: record that I remember through Ferg and French from the remix,
- 12:57Speaker 1: and then we had some I had some records that
- 12:59Speaker 1: were going you know, you had records still for the
- 13:02Speaker 1: more so for the core fans. But I felt like,
- 13:04Speaker 1: definitely when this show Me hit, it was like show
- 13:07Speaker 1: Me was like over right, So then like you kind
- 13:10Speaker 1: of go on this run where you have all of
- 13:13Speaker 1: these records that are kind of in similar vein to
- 13:15Speaker 1: show Me. Not necessarily the same, but like you know,
- 13:18Speaker 1: R and B hooks, one hundred bpm type joints. You
- 13:22Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Very successful, huge tours. You're all
- 13:26Speaker 1: Chris Brown Tory, I mean all these tours. Do you
- 13:30Speaker 1: feel like that that kind of started to eat away
- 13:34Speaker 1: at your like core following or like the ability for
- 13:38Speaker 1: new fans to come in and tap in with like
- 13:42Speaker 1: what some of your earlier fans fell in love with,
- 13:44Speaker 1: because I feel like a lot of fans, kind of
- 13:46Speaker 1: the newer fans that were coming in, yeah, started to
- 13:49Speaker 1: kind of just see you as like the radio guy. Definitely,
- 13:52Speaker 1: it was definitely like I had two separate fans, especially
- 13:56Speaker 1: when you would go to the shows and I would
- 13:57Speaker 1: have to like please the core fans and the new
- 14:00Speaker 1: fans at the same time, and you can see the
- 14:02Speaker 1: difference and the energies or whatever. But I think, you know,
- 14:07Speaker 1: at the time when show Me came out, I love
- 14:10Speaker 1: the record, but it wasn't in my head that it
- 14:12Speaker 1: was like, all right, we're gonna keep busting these down
- 14:15Speaker 1: more so than people were asking for me to bust
- 14:17Speaker 1: those down. Like the DJs was telling me like, yeah,
- 14:20Speaker 1: we love this, and you know what I'm saying. Make
- 14:22Speaker 1: sure you know what I'm saying always, you know, And
- 14:24Speaker 1: it felt like something that was simple too, and everybody
- 14:27Speaker 1: was telling me, hell, you sound great doing it, you
- 14:28Speaker 1: sound comfortable doing this, and it was like, all right, cool,
- 14:30Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. I'll rock with it is,
- 14:33Speaker 1: you know, much as the hits come through, Like I'm
- 14:35Speaker 1: not gonna run away from a hit record, but uh,
- 14:39Speaker 1: I definitely wasn't looking forward to it being like the
- 14:42Speaker 1: not necessarily I'm gonna take credit for, you know what
- 14:45Speaker 1: I'm saying, having a sound, but people like that's the
- 14:47Speaker 1: kidding sound. I don't want them to be like that's
- 14:49Speaker 1: the only sound you can do. Kidding can do. For
- 14:52Speaker 1: the new fans, because I know it's fans that know
- 14:54Speaker 1: what it is. Because like Time of Your Life, which
- 14:56Speaker 1: was kind of the first record that you had any
- 14:58Speaker 1: radio success with, Yeah, was I think like sixty some
- 15:02Speaker 1: odd bpms. It was super melodic and it was just
- 15:04Speaker 1: you and those to me, when I talk to certain people,
- 15:07Speaker 1: like those are kidd Ink records, like for a nice group,
- 15:11Speaker 1: especially people who really know me and people who've been rocking.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Like when I put on something like that, they go,
- 15:16Speaker 1: that reminds me of a kidd Ink record or the
- 15:18Speaker 1: up and away vibes. It's like, that's a Kidding record,
- 15:20Speaker 1: and that's the album that a lot of people familiarized
- 15:24Speaker 1: with me before Show Me. They're like, this is the
- 15:26Speaker 1: sound that he had or the type of music he
- 15:28Speaker 1: was creating. And then you know, when Show Me came out,
- 15:33Speaker 1: not only did was it, it was a whole new
- 15:35Speaker 1: way to even listen to music at one point too.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Like you know what I'm saying, The people who were
- 15:40Speaker 1: listening to those other records sometimes still go to those
- 15:43Speaker 1: old websites and stuff to listen to that stuff because
- 15:46Speaker 1: it's not even available nowhere. Yeah, people still be going
- 15:50Speaker 1: on there, like, Yo, what I've had somebody ask me like, yo,
- 15:52Speaker 1: you should put something out on that PIF, and I
- 15:54Speaker 1: was like, so just so you could listen to it,
- 15:57Speaker 1: Like I'm trying to figure that's not what you know,
- 15:59Speaker 1: what I mean shout out to that PIF, not shout out,
- 16:01Speaker 1: but I'm just saying it would be stupid of you
- 16:03Speaker 1: to put something out solely on that PIF would make
- 16:07Speaker 1: any sense. Right, So it's like the new fans who
- 16:10Speaker 1: only get up to what they got on Spotify and
- 16:14Speaker 1: Apple and all that stuff like that they got. They
- 16:16Speaker 1: can only backtrack so far. And I'll be thinking too,
- 16:19Speaker 1: like it'll people like, yo, you should do a feature
- 16:21Speaker 1: with this person. I'd be like I did. I did
- 16:23Speaker 1: like two back then. I mean, they're not on the
- 16:26Speaker 1: streaming that works now, but it is what it is.
- 16:28Speaker 1: So I don't know what else, you know, what I'm
- 16:32Speaker 1: saying to do besides that, but accept it and then
- 16:34Speaker 1: just move forward and kind of just work through it.
- 16:37Speaker 1: And now just showing proven that I'm independent, I got
- 16:39Speaker 1: obviously more rooms, So yeah, now you're independent and you
- 16:42Speaker 1: can do whatever you want. At the same time, I
- 16:46Speaker 1: had this like I remember when Tiger was making like
- 16:53Speaker 1: before it tastes happened. Tiger was making some wild records
- 16:55Speaker 1: that were like, what are you doing? Bro? Like I
- 16:58Speaker 1: forget he was, he was singing and there R and
- 17:00Speaker 1: B album right, it was, it was. It was horrible.
- 17:02Speaker 1: It just wasn't good. Shout out to Tiger. I'm saying
- 17:04Speaker 1: me personally, I did not. I did not enjoy that.
- 17:07Speaker 1: And I remember just thinking to myself, like, bro, this
- 17:09Speaker 1: ship is a no brainer. Like Tiger just put out
- 17:12Speaker 1: some Tiger ship and then he put Taste out and
- 17:14Speaker 1: I was like, bruh, I feel you on that? Do
- 17:17Speaker 1: you feel like because I heard you got some some
- 17:20Speaker 1: ship in the cut? I actually heard the record. You
- 17:22Speaker 1: got a rumor shout out to Yeah, shout out bro.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I don't know if it was Nelly's supposed to be
- 17:27Speaker 1: got on that song. Uh, we we played it. What
- 17:30Speaker 1: happened was we played it for Nelly. Uh I think,
- 17:33Speaker 1: I think because I think when Rumor played it for me,
- 17:35Speaker 1: He's like, yo, Nelly's getting on this. Yeah. We had
- 17:36Speaker 1: played it for Nelly and brought it through and then
- 17:39Speaker 1: instead we ended up doing two other records and Nelly
- 17:43Speaker 1: for you and me. Rumor and Nelly did one other
- 17:46Speaker 1: record and me and Nelly got like four records in
- 17:50Speaker 1: the can that should just be working because that's the bro.
- 17:52Speaker 1: So sometime he'll just pull up to the crib and
- 17:55Speaker 1: then I just be playing play. But I guess, like
- 17:58Speaker 1: I feel like you have the like kind of the
- 18:02Speaker 1: like like if you were to do a record like
- 18:05Speaker 1: show me or you know whatever right now independently, Yeah,
- 18:11Speaker 1: you make so much money off of that song right
- 18:14Speaker 1: because it's yours now. So I mean, cause I know
- 18:17Speaker 1: you made a conscious decision to be like, Yo, don't
- 18:19Speaker 1: send me these beats, Like don't like like this is
- 18:22Speaker 1: you know, I'm close with you and your team, So
- 18:25Speaker 1: I'm like, like, I know you made a conscious decision
- 18:27Speaker 1: to be like, look like stop sending me Mustard beats.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Stop sending me you know these kind of records. Have
- 18:33Speaker 1: you thought like, Yo, look now that I'm independent, Like
- 18:37Speaker 1: if I catch one now, it's like way different. Have
- 18:39Speaker 1: you thought of like saying like, hey, fuck it, let's
- 18:42Speaker 1: see what happens? Like absolutely, I think I think what
- 18:45Speaker 1: it was was when I was asking people not to
- 18:47Speaker 1: send me that stuff, I just needed it for like
- 18:49Speaker 1: my mental like creative space to be able to open
- 18:53Speaker 1: up and not just I just needed it for myself,
- 18:55Speaker 1: so because I was feeling boxed in or insecure about
- 18:59Speaker 1: if I could take it different directions still, whatever the
- 19:01Speaker 1: case may be. So but of course I looked back
- 19:05Speaker 1: and even just listening to certain records or just getting
- 19:09Speaker 1: beats and then just having something to it so quickly
- 19:12Speaker 1: and being like, dang, this is low Kia smash. I
- 19:15Speaker 1: definitely told myself like, I'm not running away from nothing,
- 19:18Speaker 1: especially now that you know what I'm saying, Summer's on
- 19:20Speaker 1: the way. I got a nice little stash up for
- 19:22Speaker 1: the summer, and I know that, you know, it's a
- 19:26Speaker 1: vibe that people you know what I'm saying, enjoy and
- 19:28Speaker 1: I know that I love making you know what I'm saying,
- 19:30Speaker 1: music that make people feel good. And I've been missing
- 19:32Speaker 1: the summer. I'm not gonna lie. So I've heard some
- 19:34Speaker 1: songs that you don't have out that are like what
- 19:36Speaker 1: was the There's a record that I know Will was
- 19:39Speaker 1: trying to get Kane Brown on. Oh yeah, that's like
- 19:43Speaker 1: a hitch, that's like and that shit's like a year
- 19:45Speaker 1: and a half, two years old. That's like a smash.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Like these are records that you just got it, just
- 19:49Speaker 1: tucked off. But it just needs the perfect the perfect
- 19:53Speaker 1: person singing on that hook, and I just it gotta
- 19:55Speaker 1: get right. You feel me though, like you got records
- 19:57Speaker 1: like that that are like crazy and it was like
- 20:02Speaker 1: I think it was just all the time and things
- 20:03Speaker 1: like that's like a soundtrack or like the theme song,
- 20:07Speaker 1: like you know, summer slam type, shit fast and furious type.
- 20:10Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying exactly the movie. Do you
- 20:13Speaker 1: feel kind of like if you know you have like okay,
- 20:16Speaker 1: look like you said, I got you got shit tucked
- 20:20Speaker 1: like this? To me, I think is like a dope
- 20:21Speaker 1: project because it's something that's like you're independent now, so
- 20:25Speaker 1: why not do a whole project with a producer? Right?
- 20:29Speaker 1: But if you know, like hey, look I got this, this, this,
- 20:31Speaker 1: and this, being independent, is it like a little bit
- 20:33Speaker 1: harder to be like, look, guys, if we're going to
- 20:36Speaker 1: drop this, we gotta make sure we got all of
- 20:40Speaker 1: these ducks in a row because we want to make
- 20:43Speaker 1: sure it has the best chance to be as big
- 20:47Speaker 1: as it should be. Does it give you kind of
- 20:50Speaker 1: cold feet to drop something like that now that you're
- 20:53Speaker 1: independent or is it like more like timing, like like
- 20:57Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, because you got like you said,
- 20:58Speaker 1: you have some big records, bro, Like I feel like
- 21:00Speaker 1: your biggest joints you have you've been sitting on. That's
- 21:03Speaker 1: what people tell me all the time. Now, I think
- 21:06Speaker 1: it's definitely a timing thing. I don't like you said
- 21:11Speaker 1: getting the ducks in a row for sure. Like after
- 21:13Speaker 1: I got the project done, it was more so like,
- 21:17Speaker 1: all right, now, how we're gonna line it up a
- 21:19Speaker 1: certain way and give ourselves enough time to be able
- 21:22Speaker 1: to do boom boom boom boom. Could it was like initially,
- 21:26Speaker 1: initially I was like I wanted to put it out
- 21:29Speaker 1: at this time. It went two months over the time
- 21:31Speaker 1: I wanted to put out, just trying to perfect it
- 21:33Speaker 1: the way I wanted it to sound. And then of
- 21:36Speaker 1: course I immediately wanted to put it out. But then
- 21:38Speaker 1: you step back and it's like, I'm not gonna do that.
- 21:41Speaker 1: It's not a surprise project. Like I want to give
- 21:43Speaker 1: it its full potential and you know what I'm saying,
- 21:46Speaker 1: let it be seen and heard and give it what
- 21:48Speaker 1: it needs to really, you know what I'm saying, have
- 21:51Speaker 1: some success instead of just putting it out and which
- 21:54Speaker 1: with records I've done before. By just wanting to put
- 21:56Speaker 1: something out just to have content out right, and then
- 21:58Speaker 1: they got to kind of get overlooked, just not because
- 22:02Speaker 1: the record wasn't hot, it got overlooked because it wasn't
- 22:06Speaker 1: put out in a certain manner to you know what
- 22:08Speaker 1: I'm saying succeed. So with this project, I definitely it
- 22:12Speaker 1: first kind of just wanted to get the content out
- 22:14Speaker 1: and let people kind of gravitate towards it the way
- 22:17Speaker 1: they want. But I still want to have some type
- 22:19Speaker 1: of impact, especially being from where I was to go
- 22:22Speaker 1: on independent. I don't want to low ball and be
- 22:24Speaker 1: like I'm independent now and now I'm not doing things
- 22:26Speaker 1: it's big, Like I'm not giving you, you know what
- 22:29Speaker 1: I'm saying, the same type of energy because I'm independent.
- 22:31Speaker 1: I'm just throwing some music out there and seeing what happens. Like,
- 22:34Speaker 1: I definitely don't want it to do thathing like that.
- 22:36Speaker 1: There's been this big narrative in music over the last
- 22:38Speaker 1: few years about going independent ownership. You know, Kanye led
- 22:45Speaker 1: a lot of that with the publishing shit, and and
- 22:47Speaker 1: obviously Russ has been screaming that shit at the top
- 22:49Speaker 1: of it. You know, Tory Lane just went independent. Yeah,
- 22:53Speaker 1: before you shot making in the feats allegedly, but it's
- 22:58Speaker 1: kind of been like, you know, I think that we
- 23:01Speaker 1: kind of recognize like if you have a cold following,
- 23:05Speaker 1: if you have fans like the major label, can they
- 23:10Speaker 1: can throw gasoline on a fire that's already going on? Right?
- 23:13Speaker 1: But the fire is already there. So it's like talk
- 23:16Speaker 1: about how important it is and like just like coming
- 23:18Speaker 1: into your own as an independent artist again, like the
- 23:21Speaker 1: second go round, Like how does it feel? Like? How
- 23:24Speaker 1: are you like? Like is being independent the way for
- 23:29Speaker 1: you now? Moving forward? Would you ever sign another deal
- 23:32Speaker 1: or like you know what I mean, like the second
- 23:34Speaker 1: go round? How's a feeling? Oh, I couldn't say I
- 23:37Speaker 1: wouldn't sign another deal in general. I mean, I definitely
- 23:41Speaker 1: want to see how this run goes. I don't you know,
- 23:44Speaker 1: I have certain expectations for myself, but I just want
- 23:47Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, I definitely want to see
- 23:49Speaker 1: how it goes and see how I move forward from there.
- 23:53Speaker 1: I am in a good space, you know what I'm
- 23:55Speaker 1: saying with my independent situation. I feel like, especially after
- 23:58Speaker 1: this project that you know I'm saying, I'll be able
- 24:00Speaker 1: to figure out what I want to do and I
- 24:03Speaker 1: expect probably to you know what I'm saying, get some
- 24:06Speaker 1: calls in, and I'm gonna have to make some decisions.
- 24:08Speaker 1: But I don't know. I mean, if it makes sense,
- 24:12Speaker 1: because I understand so if the project, it's not the
- 24:18Speaker 1: only project I plan on putting out, by the way,
- 24:20Speaker 1: but if this project, you know what I'm saying, gets
- 24:22Speaker 1: the response that I wanted to get in, it kind
- 24:26Speaker 1: of shines the light on the creative and the different
- 24:30Speaker 1: ways I can go, and then that sparks an interest
- 24:34Speaker 1: in you know what I'm saying, a major label or
- 24:36Speaker 1: a bigger independent label or whatever that understands that direction,
- 24:41Speaker 1: and I feel comfortable about them understand that, and I
- 24:43Speaker 1: can continue to do what I'm doing with that backing,
- 24:46Speaker 1: of course, because that's how it was when I first
- 24:48Speaker 1: went in, and it felt that, you know what I'm saying,
- 24:50Speaker 1: confident about I can continue to do what I want
- 24:52Speaker 1: to do and it's going to continue to get back.
- 24:55Speaker 1: The only problem that had happened with the label before
- 24:58Speaker 1: was like you're saying, what me doing what I wanted
- 25:01Speaker 1: to do, but then having to show me record be
- 25:03Speaker 1: way more successful than anything I did before compared to
- 25:06Speaker 1: probably some independent artists that had a platinum record before
- 25:09Speaker 1: they came in, and then you know what I'm saying,
- 25:11Speaker 1: I had a lot of success, but for them, they
- 25:14Speaker 1: probably still felt like this record did way bigger. So
- 25:17Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, we'll put more energy into
- 25:20Speaker 1: when you give us that type of stuff. If the
- 25:22Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, a newer situation is like
- 25:24Speaker 1: whatever you want to dose blah will give you this, this, this,
- 25:28Speaker 1: this and that and make it work for me, then
- 25:29Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, I'm gonna hear them out.
- 25:31Speaker 1: But also if this project, you know what I'm saying,
- 25:35Speaker 1: skyrockets and the bag is you know what I'm saying, crazy,
- 25:39Speaker 1: keep running up. Might as well keep running it up.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I'm not gonna be you know what I'm saying, Just
- 25:43Speaker 1: jump into it if I could, because I understand the system.
- 25:45Speaker 1: So it's not like I don't understand how to run
- 25:49Speaker 1: my own situation like a major label or you know
- 25:52Speaker 1: what I'm saying, put it together and don't have the relationships,
- 25:56Speaker 1: or you know what I'm saying, don't know how to
- 25:57Speaker 1: take that bag and reinvest it the right way. So
- 26:00Speaker 1: you know, I know how to like I've been doing. Now,
- 26:02Speaker 1: I know how to put together this, I know how
- 26:04Speaker 1: to shoot videos, I know how to it's not you know,
- 26:06Speaker 1: I know how to market, and we know how to
- 26:08Speaker 1: get yourself sustained. TikTok. And I mean, yeah, I think
- 26:11Speaker 1: that that's like right to do because really, if you
- 26:13Speaker 1: think of the major label ship, the really the thing
- 26:15Speaker 1: that they could do is just give you an upfront bag.
- 26:18Speaker 1: That's really all it is. And that upfront bag you
- 26:20Speaker 1: gotta recoup at a shitty rate for the most part
- 26:22Speaker 1: most people, you know, but you know they can, like
- 26:27Speaker 1: I said, pour gasoline on the fire. But if you
- 26:29Speaker 1: kind of got the right partner or you have your
- 26:31Speaker 1: ship together on your own, like really, what can they do? Right?
- 26:35Speaker 1: But mind anything I probably do, Like with a major label,
- 26:38Speaker 1: it's gonna be a one and done. So yeah, like
- 26:40Speaker 1: and I'm not going in for no, like three to
- 26:42Speaker 1: five five years, Like like, look, I got I got,
- 26:45Speaker 1: I got these records, they need infrastructure. Let's let's see
- 26:48Speaker 1: how it works and then I'm out and I'll make
- 26:51Speaker 1: you guys a bag, because I mean I understood that's
- 26:53Speaker 1: kind of what I did for the other label with
- 26:57Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, getting them such a good
- 26:59Speaker 1: enough bag the beginning, I could have, you know what
- 27:01Speaker 1: I'm saying, just been off the situation and continue to
- 27:05Speaker 1: do something else, and they would have succeeded equally because
- 27:08Speaker 1: they what I gave them was good enough to clear
- 27:11Speaker 1: out and you know what I'm saying, being the green
- 27:13Speaker 1: and dip out. So yeah, they still making that same
- 27:16Speaker 1: consistent bread off those records. So you know what I'm saying,
- 27:19Speaker 1: that was a successful deal. It was successful. Yeah, I
- 27:22Speaker 1: mean they made money. I thought that they really fumbled
- 27:25Speaker 1: that last record or as well with Sweety and Wayne. Yeah,
- 27:29Speaker 1: that was fumbled. I don't know who to blame it on.
- 27:31Speaker 1: We jumped on that record so earlier real and I
- 27:33Speaker 1: was like, guys, this is the kidd In record. This
- 27:35Speaker 1: is like we gotta go crazy. And then I just
- 27:39Speaker 1: felt like the label never backed it up, right. But
- 27:42Speaker 1: I mean, you know what I'm saying, always makes me
- 27:45Speaker 1: feel good to open the doors and you know what
- 27:46Speaker 1: I'm saying, be ahead of the curve and you know
- 27:49Speaker 1: what I'm saying, look at everybody on their bumper now. Yeah,
- 27:54Speaker 1: I mean shit, that was really with Sweety too. Yeah,
- 27:57Speaker 1: I was like, record could have been and uh, what's
- 28:00Speaker 1: the name. Didn't he a to be? Yeah, he hated
- 28:04Speaker 1: to be and yeah yeah paper on paper, that's a smash.
- 28:09Speaker 1: I don't know what happened. So, you know, even the
- 28:13Speaker 1: record you have a tief your EP a few years ago,
- 28:16Speaker 1: I thought it could have been huge, which was still
- 28:18Speaker 1: that was still a big record, But I feel like
- 28:19Speaker 1: with the use of record, I think there were obviously
- 28:21Speaker 1: still some things that could have been lined up and
- 28:23Speaker 1: probably situated, so it wasn't. Maybe it's rushed out as
- 28:28Speaker 1: I probably wanted it to be out too, as everybody
- 28:30Speaker 1: like I needed a record out. We put this together
- 28:31Speaker 1: boom boom boom, but probably could have you know what
- 28:34Speaker 1: I'm saying, I don't know, done something different. But the
- 28:36Speaker 1: Tie record, you know, I think that was still a big,
- 28:39Speaker 1: a big record for me. I think at the time
- 28:41Speaker 1: what it was was which is weird because yeah, all
- 28:45Speaker 1: the fans want a certain situation for me, but I
- 28:49Speaker 1: think at that time it was a time maybe when
- 28:52Speaker 1: I needed to kind of not switch it up, but
- 28:55Speaker 1: just maybe throw something in different right before that that
- 28:59Speaker 1: kind of made it missed that right, that sound of
- 29:02Speaker 1: that vibe and then come back to it instead of
- 29:05Speaker 1: it being maybe something a little too consistent. So people
- 29:08Speaker 1: were kind of like all right, but like kind of
- 29:10Speaker 1: how when main Chick, which was wasn't my move, but
- 29:13Speaker 1: how main Chick came out right off to show me
- 29:14Speaker 1: how they weren't able to get to that because they
- 29:18Speaker 1: were still here. So like, you know, it's crazy because
- 29:20Speaker 1: Main Chick if you would have, like you said, if
- 29:22Speaker 1: you would have had a bridge record in between those
- 29:23Speaker 1: two records, may Chick probably would have been. I mean,
- 29:26Speaker 1: the main Chick was a big record, was still a
- 29:27Speaker 1: big record, a big record, but it could have been huge.
- 29:30Speaker 1: It could have i think, had its own legs and
- 29:32Speaker 1: been crazy instead of feeling like a follow up yeah,
- 29:35Speaker 1: because people were still playing show me Yeah, because show
- 29:38Speaker 1: Me research so well radio. That was like one of
- 29:40Speaker 1: those songs that didn't go away for like a year
- 29:41Speaker 1: and a half on the radio because of researched so well.
- 29:43Speaker 1: So you dropped the follow up and it sad. It's like, yo,
- 29:45Speaker 1: I'm already playing I'm still playing the other ship. Yeah.
- 29:47Speaker 1: And then people telling me that to my face was like, yeah,
- 29:51Speaker 1: how come they didn't know that that was something that
- 29:53Speaker 1: somebody That's not something I was They were supposed to
- 29:57Speaker 1: know because that's their job. So yeah, I don't know
- 30:01Speaker 1: how they are you finding it easier to, like, cause
- 30:06Speaker 1: because like I said, you came into game with this
- 30:09Speaker 1: crazy fan base. Since you've come back to being independent
- 30:12Speaker 1: and you've been dropping a lot more often. Like I think,
- 30:15Speaker 1: was it twenty nineteen you were dropping it felt like
- 30:16Speaker 1: once every month, you were putting a new week. We
- 30:18Speaker 1: did like one a week. It was a lot of
- 30:20Speaker 1: songs in two months. I think you're dropping a lot
- 30:22Speaker 1: of records. Have you found it easier to kind of
- 30:27Speaker 1: rehash that fan base and like re like kind of
- 30:30Speaker 1: because I feel like you, you know, turning into a superstar.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Sometimes you lose those core fans because they kind of
- 30:36Speaker 1: feel like, ah, well, yeah, you know what I mean.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Have you found it easier to try to like bring
- 30:41Speaker 1: those guys back into the fold or build that back
- 30:43Speaker 1: up a little bit, because now, I mean, it's certain
- 30:46Speaker 1: fans I think that are back to rooting for me
- 30:48Speaker 1: because they feel like I'm the underdog. And then you know,
- 30:52Speaker 1: I could feel like at the end of twenty nineteen
- 30:55Speaker 1: when I was had this idea and making this run,
- 30:57Speaker 1: and then twenty twenty half and the energy kind of
- 31:02Speaker 1: shifted a little bit. Of course, of course, I like
- 31:04Speaker 1: had records lined up in different things, but it's a
- 31:07Speaker 1: timing thing too. I remember having certain records that I
- 31:10Speaker 1: felt like were ready to go, and it was kind
- 31:12Speaker 1: of like, yeah, but not anymore, so like we're gonna
- 31:15Speaker 1: have to wait until this one is you know what
- 31:16Speaker 1: I'm saying, give it four or five months and then
- 31:18Speaker 1: see if the energy is back ready for it. So
- 31:21Speaker 1: that definitely kind of helped. I mean I helped, but
- 31:23Speaker 1: it definitely kind of slowed down my run. But at
- 31:25Speaker 1: the same time, I think gave me some more just
- 31:28Speaker 1: creative time to get some stuff together and figure some
- 31:32Speaker 1: stuff out. And in the midst of recording this project too,
- 31:35Speaker 1: I think I was able to open up just getting
- 31:39Speaker 1: back into more sinks. Sinks. I don't know if a
- 31:42Speaker 1: lot of people know, like movies, TV shows, commercials and stuff,
- 31:46Speaker 1: those are big. I don't know, Like I've always had
- 31:49Speaker 1: a niche with just writing records that just you know
- 31:51Speaker 1: what I'm saying, resonate over there with that sinking game,
- 31:54Speaker 1: and I got back into that, and you know what
- 31:56Speaker 1: I'm saying, I think I'm on because whatever I've done
- 32:00Speaker 1: like two I've had like two fast and Furious Movies
- 32:03Speaker 1: were working on another one. They you know what I'm saying,
- 32:04Speaker 1: people were sending Space Jam ideas and this and that,
- 32:07Speaker 1: and it was doing trolls and all these different movies
- 32:11Speaker 1: was coming out, and I think, I, you know what
- 32:12Speaker 1: I'm saying, just tap back in and just writing for
- 32:15Speaker 1: that type of game. And so your records, the records
- 32:18Speaker 1: you write for, like like, are those like your records
- 32:20Speaker 1: ended up on that stuff or is sometimes just stuff
- 32:22Speaker 1: that you write that ends up someone else doing them
- 32:24Speaker 1: or so like this. So I've had a couple of
- 32:27Speaker 1: different ones, like sometimes you'll get the list that'll tell
- 32:29Speaker 1: you what they need and then you get, you know
- 32:31Speaker 1: what I'm saying to it, just start writing a bunch
- 32:33Speaker 1: of different stuff to send it through. And then I've
- 32:35Speaker 1: had records that like there was a record I did
- 32:39Speaker 1: on the Ism project for the album that I lost
- 32:43Speaker 1: to a movie sink because you know what I'm saying
- 32:46Speaker 1: ISNM played it for his people and they were like, Yo,
- 32:48Speaker 1: that would be perfect for this movie and I was like, yeah,
- 32:51Speaker 1: but that's for my album. So like that was another
- 32:53Speaker 1: thing that happens where it has set me back to
- 32:55Speaker 1: because I think losing that one record, which I felt
- 32:58Speaker 1: like I needed and it had a and sounds set
- 33:01Speaker 1: me back and I had to replace that with like
- 33:03Speaker 1: I need so that happens. Does that song then just
- 33:06Speaker 1: belong to the movie company. Yeah, So like they're like, hey, look,
- 33:09Speaker 1: we're putting this in the movie. It's ours if we
- 33:11Speaker 1: put it out on the soundtrack. Yeah. So, like I
- 33:13Speaker 1: sold it to them, and then they you know what
- 33:15Speaker 1: I'm saying through you know what I'm saying. Whoever, they
- 33:18Speaker 1: wanted a couple different rappers on there and maybe had
- 33:20Speaker 1: somebody racing the hook blah, and then you know what
- 33:23Speaker 1: I'm saying, I send it to me. I added some stuff,
- 33:26Speaker 1: or you should put some ad libs here, you know
- 33:27Speaker 1: what I'm saying. We still work on the record together,
- 33:29Speaker 1: but once it's there, it's it's there to do it,
- 33:31Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. They went for the movie,
- 33:33Speaker 1: right right, right right? Yeah. I think the scene game
- 33:35Speaker 1: is a part of the game that a lot of
- 33:37Speaker 1: artists don't understand or like understand even how to get
- 33:40Speaker 1: involved in that. Because you'll hear some records you're be like, man,
- 33:42Speaker 1: this should be great on a movie or something. I
- 33:44Speaker 1: don't even people understand that world. It's like it feels
- 33:46Speaker 1: like a different world, right, the movies, the sports is
- 33:49Speaker 1: big for me. Like I had the Dodger championship song
- 33:54Speaker 1: and the song that they play that's a bad series opener. Yeah,
- 33:58Speaker 1: so the Dodgers just shoot a bag, you know what
- 34:00Speaker 1: I'm saying. Some tickets maybe, but uh it will and
- 34:06Speaker 1: then uh so like I get those I've had different
- 34:09Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, Like championship spots, video games
- 34:11Speaker 1: like all that stuff. It's real fun to me, Like
- 34:13Speaker 1: that was something that growing up I always wanted, so
- 34:15Speaker 1: like I always wanted to have a song on the radio,
- 34:17Speaker 1: but then like I got a song in the video games. Yeah.
- 34:19Speaker 1: The video game ship is like could you we always
- 34:21Speaker 1: be playing Madden or two K and it's or even
- 34:24Speaker 1: like Tony Hawk when I was growing up, like all
- 34:26Speaker 1: them songs like you Knew by Heart by Heart Bro's
- 34:29Speaker 1: songs I know with the records at all. It's songs
- 34:31Speaker 1: I know from like Dave Mirror that I've never Yeah,
- 34:35Speaker 1: because it's like you play the game so much, like, oh,
- 34:38Speaker 1: this ship is crazy playing. I was walking around singing
- 34:40Speaker 1: these songs friends, like what is this? Did you play
- 34:43Speaker 1: the new Tony Hawk like remastered edition that came out
- 34:45Speaker 1: not okay, so I want to I had to buy.
- 34:48Speaker 1: I had to step back from the video games for
- 34:50Speaker 1: a minute. Just diving in. I'm bad. Once I dive in,
- 34:53Speaker 1: I dive in. And then especially during the pandemic, especially
- 34:56Speaker 1: during the pandemic. So for me, I had to step
- 34:58Speaker 1: back from the video games, especially when I was doing
- 35:00Speaker 1: this project, because I was I got lost in there,
- 35:03Speaker 1: locked game. I play of course two K so two
- 35:08Speaker 1: K got the whole story mode. So once you get
- 35:10Speaker 1: locked into that him, I'm out here living hoop dreams.
- 35:14Speaker 1: And then anything fighting game like UFC is my joint.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Uh you know, Call of Duty's. I play all the
- 35:20Speaker 1: regular games, the ones I get locked in on, be
- 35:22Speaker 1: like the Batman, Spider Man, Spider Man Rocked the Switch,
- 35:26Speaker 1: Super Marios is all fire. But I had to step
- 35:29Speaker 1: back for Arkham series games were sucking five fire like
- 35:34Speaker 1: my some of my favorite games. That's when I found
- 35:36Speaker 1: out I had a problem. I think I went like
- 35:38Speaker 1: a month and I was like, yeah, I've been playing
- 35:39Speaker 1: every day you get I had every any of the
- 35:42Speaker 1: new consoles, the PS five Man PS five, I don't
- 35:46Speaker 1: rock with Xboxxbox Man you know, I'm not gonna lie.
- 35:50Speaker 1: PS five ain't got no game yet, just like they
- 35:52Speaker 1: did four. Neither of them got games yet. It's like bro,
- 35:55Speaker 1: I told my son he was so hyped to get
- 35:57Speaker 1: I mean, I got a bunch during Christmas, but I
- 35:59Speaker 1: was like, yo, you realize, like there's no games yet.
- 36:02Speaker 1: That's what they did with PS four last time. It
- 36:04Speaker 1: was like you get Call of Duty two K, Spider Man, yeah,
- 36:08Speaker 1: and two other games and then you got to wait
- 36:10Speaker 1: six months go to no fucking games. Got a way
- 36:13Speaker 1: to the summer and like low key that. I mean,
- 36:16Speaker 1: the graphics are better, but unless you got that crazy TV,
- 36:20Speaker 1: like if you just got a normal four K TV,
- 36:23Speaker 1: you barely can notice the difference. Difference. You gotta have
- 36:26Speaker 1: like an ill ass TV with this type of rep.
- 36:29Speaker 1: My boy was breaking it down. He's like, look for
- 36:30Speaker 1: you to really like notice the jump in graphics, you
- 36:32Speaker 1: gotta really have like a fucking three four thousand R TV. Yeah,
- 36:36Speaker 1: just to notice the difference. I could imagine it's somebody
- 36:38Speaker 1: who bought a PS five and my son's in his
- 36:40Speaker 1: room on a thirty two inch fucking ten eighty P TV, like, yeah,
- 36:43Speaker 1: the graphics look better, I'm like, they look the same. Yeah,
- 36:45Speaker 1: I got every same game. I guy. Yeah, it's like
- 36:47Speaker 1: pretty much the same fucking thing. It's it's kind of crazy. Yo.
- 36:50Speaker 1: So you've sold over fifteen million records through your career.
- 36:56Speaker 1: Like I said, I'm bad with the numbers, but that
- 36:58Speaker 1: sounds Yeah, that sounds good. That's a lot. If I
- 37:01Speaker 1: could count like that is that's that's man, blessing. Do
- 37:05Speaker 1: you ever like reflect on like that's a lot? Bro? Like,
- 37:09Speaker 1: some people never go platinum in their life. Fifteen million
- 37:12Speaker 1: is a number that you could stop making music tomorrow
- 37:16Speaker 1: and be like, man, I sold fifteen million records in life.
- 37:18Speaker 1: You ever like think like shit like us worldwide? I
- 37:21Speaker 1: don't know, because the thing is to that that fifth
- 37:23Speaker 1: Harmony record. Hopefully it'll go diamond at some point in
- 37:25Speaker 1: my life and I'll be like, I'm part of a
- 37:27Speaker 1: diamond record. How many feel like they're like seven million worldwide?
- 37:31Speaker 1: How many records in that period? Yeah, that's crazy. It
- 37:34Speaker 1: might be diamond worldwide, But it's like that record was
- 37:37Speaker 1: probably one of the biggest. I need to update that plaque.
- 37:40Speaker 1: I probably only got the two million one yeah, but no,
- 37:43Speaker 1: but like you know, that's a lot Man, that's a
- 37:45Speaker 1: big that's a big career. I mean, you know, and
- 37:47Speaker 1: for you to still keep going. But do you ever reflect, like, yo,
- 37:50Speaker 1: like everything I've done so far, it's impressive, man. I
- 37:53Speaker 1: know sometimes sometimes it's like probably easy to like second
- 37:57Speaker 1: guess yourself or doubt yourself when you need the hottest
- 37:59Speaker 1: artist anymore. But like, bro, like you've had like a
- 38:02Speaker 1: crazy run so far, Nah, I get I definitely get
- 38:04Speaker 1: time to reflect on it more now, and I think
- 38:07Speaker 1: back like nice little run, especially when I think about
- 38:10Speaker 1: the years in so like I look at other guys
- 38:12Speaker 1: and how long they actually been in the game, and
- 38:15Speaker 1: I think about like when my first project dropped, when
- 38:18Speaker 1: people actually start paying attention, like twenty fourteen, twenty fifteen, Like,
- 38:22Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, wasn't like that long ago
- 38:25Speaker 1: compared to some people who've been in the game for
- 38:27Speaker 1: like twenty twenty five years. I feel like I still got,
- 38:30Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, some grinding that I could do.
- 38:32Speaker 1: I feel like I still got some time of success,
- 38:34Speaker 1: especially when I see like a lot of the old
- 38:36Speaker 1: heads still just doing big things later in their career,
- 38:40Speaker 1: like a lot of time, multiple runs, multiple runs. I've
- 38:43Speaker 1: seen so many people have just multiple legendary runs. You've
- 38:47Speaker 1: seen like Fat Joe keep coming out perfect example, Fat
- 38:51Speaker 1: Joe keep coming out, Gucci Man to keep coming out
- 38:54Speaker 1: with something crazy. You know what I'm saying. Those are
- 38:55Speaker 1: people that you know, you look up in like two Chains,
- 38:57Speaker 1: still coming out like everybody, even like someone independent like
- 39:00Speaker 1: Freddy Gibbs, Freddie Gibbs. You know what I'm saying too.
- 39:03Speaker 1: You see people who run right now, that's crazy, right,
- 39:06Speaker 1: People who you've seen years in maybe slow down or
- 39:08Speaker 1: you didn't think it was getting what they needed to
- 39:10Speaker 1: get as far as respecting and getting nominated for Grammys
- 39:13Speaker 1: and stuff that makes you you have no choice but
- 39:15Speaker 1: to feel inspired and motivated, like, oh I got that
- 39:18Speaker 1: time to figure stuff out. Not saying I'm just sitting back,
- 39:21Speaker 1: but it's like I got time to steal, you know
- 39:23Speaker 1: what I'm saying, thrive. So have you felt the narrative?
- 39:27Speaker 1: I know you, you know you're you pay attention, but
- 39:29Speaker 1: like there's been means and shit like what happened to
- 39:32Speaker 1: kid inc My kid ink fell off? Yeah? Is that
- 39:35Speaker 1: something that bothers you or is it something that motivates you?
- 39:39Speaker 1: Or do you even pay attention to it. It's a
- 39:41Speaker 1: little bit of both. The reason that bothers me is
- 39:43Speaker 1: because I feel like like we were talking about having
- 39:45Speaker 1: certain you know what I'm saying things aligned. I feel
- 39:48Speaker 1: like I've had somebody say, you know when you're dropping
- 39:51Speaker 1: something new, and then for me, I'll be like, I
- 39:53Speaker 1: just dropped something new two weeks ago, how did what
- 39:56Speaker 1: made that count? Is new for you? Or or me
- 39:59Speaker 1: taking it serious as this was a record I wanted
- 40:01Speaker 1: to put out, or you just think I'm just throwing
- 40:04Speaker 1: stuff out like you know. So I think it's definitely
- 40:07Speaker 1: still up to me. I guess to I guess put
- 40:10Speaker 1: that energy into certain records. But you know, it'll bother
- 40:14Speaker 1: me to an extent of I don't want nobody thinking
- 40:17Speaker 1: I'm chilling at the crib like working. I'm blessed, but
- 40:21Speaker 1: I'm not ever content with just sitting at the crib
- 40:24Speaker 1: and just going we collecting all these voices and da
- 40:28Speaker 1: da da, and it's like, nah, I'm at the crib
- 40:30Speaker 1: working constantly, thinking, being creative, trying to figure out what's
- 40:33Speaker 1: something new I could do where everything is going, especially
- 40:36Speaker 1: because I'm somebody who doesn't really like sit back on
- 40:39Speaker 1: my old records and look at them and think about
- 40:41Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, Oh this is something I
- 40:43Speaker 1: need to redo again, or what if this would have
- 40:46Speaker 1: done this? I'm I'm always moving forward, so like people
- 40:50Speaker 1: will come over the crib and hear everything I got
- 40:52Speaker 1: stashed in they can they like why yeah, dada da,
- 40:54Speaker 1: But it's you know what I'm saying, figuring everything out
- 40:56Speaker 1: and just getting not wanting that to happen where people
- 41:00Speaker 1: are overlooking records. It's definitely you know what I'm saying,
- 41:02Speaker 1: They puts me in that place like all right, I
- 41:05Speaker 1: don't want to just put this out and I know
- 41:06Speaker 1: it's a smash, but it seems like, you know what
- 41:08Speaker 1: I'm saying, I got to figure out the way to
- 41:09Speaker 1: get back in people's face or build the momentum in
- 41:13Speaker 1: the right way to where they just automatically it's back
- 41:16Speaker 1: to clicking and then they go, oh that's crazy, instead
- 41:19Speaker 1: of being like just not hearing it. I think it's
- 41:23Speaker 1: like you drop this project. Just keep dropping, bro, that
- 41:26Speaker 1: with the songs and the videos, and that's I got
- 41:30Speaker 1: this project done. I think I had already. Guys have
- 41:33Speaker 1: been shooting hell of videos of Maddy J shooting videos
- 41:35Speaker 1: with my bro Maddy J. I had already started another
- 41:40Speaker 1: like EP kind of project that's gonna be with somebody else,
- 41:44Speaker 1: doing like a mix of not really hip hop or
- 41:47Speaker 1: something just more I think a little bit more worldly
- 41:49Speaker 1: type music. And then I plan on dropping probably Up
- 41:53Speaker 1: and Away too this year by that summer hopefully, and
- 41:57Speaker 1: then uh, what's up with It's the Rumor Joint coming soon?
- 42:01Speaker 1: The Rumor record is definitely coming soon. We're just getting
- 42:04Speaker 1: everything together. That's definitely one of those ones that was
- 42:07Speaker 1: a big record that needs some clearances and it's gonna
- 42:10Speaker 1: take some business time. But I think everything is set
- 42:13Speaker 1: in stone. I got a couple things I need to
- 42:15Speaker 1: finish on the mixing side of things, because I'm real
- 42:18Speaker 1: hands on with that. So I got the session at
- 42:20Speaker 1: the crib probably you know what I'm saying, tweaks some stuff,
- 42:22Speaker 1: but it's already lined up to you know what I'm saying, go,
- 42:25Speaker 1: I just got to hit my deadline. If there's an
- 42:27Speaker 1: artist that's watching this that's on the come up, would
- 42:30Speaker 1: you give them advice to stay independent or go with
- 42:33Speaker 1: a major. Let's say they got a little bit of momentum.
- 42:39Speaker 1: It's different for different artists. Everyone's situation is different, but
- 42:43Speaker 1: because it's certain artists who I never think should go
- 42:45Speaker 1: to a major, and there's certain ones who I think
- 42:47Speaker 1: need to go to a major so they get the looks.
- 42:49Speaker 1: So who do you think, like like like talk about
- 42:52Speaker 1: the type of artists you think would need to go
- 42:53Speaker 1: to a major and or should stay independent. Like an example,
- 42:59Speaker 1: I think, like from my perspective, if you have like
- 43:02Speaker 1: a song that goes viral, but you really don't have
- 43:04Speaker 1: a following, like you might want to go the major route, right,
- 43:07Speaker 1: because then you they'll maximize that record because that record
- 43:11Speaker 1: might be the only opportunity you have. Let's say that
- 43:14Speaker 1: Board in the House kid, right, Yeah, that record that
- 43:17Speaker 1: went viral. I haven't heard from him since, but he
- 43:20Speaker 1: signed a deal and then they put the Tiger on
- 43:22Speaker 1: the remix, and I think that was probably a smart
- 43:24Speaker 1: play for him. No, definitely a smart play if it's
- 43:26Speaker 1: somebody who's got a crazy following like Russ or somebody,
- 43:30Speaker 1: or let's use let's use like blast last, Like is
- 43:34Speaker 1: he signed to a major, No, he's got a partnership
- 43:38Speaker 1: with Rebel Music. I think that that's somebody probably who's
- 43:42Speaker 1: really dope and will succeed doing their independent thing. But
- 43:46Speaker 1: if he was signed to a major, could he be
- 43:48Speaker 1: world wide artist? Absolutely? So you think or like, that's
- 43:52Speaker 1: like saying if Roddy rich didn't sign to a major
- 43:55Speaker 1: or just stayed independent, do I think you know what
- 43:58Speaker 1: I'm saying. Yeah, I think Roddy Richard of major is
- 44:02Speaker 1: so you blasted? A major is essentially what a slidfyd
- 44:06Speaker 1: is a superstar? Yeah, yeah, I think so, because he
- 44:09Speaker 1: has those type of records that I think get overlooks
- 44:12Speaker 1: that are way that are huge, you know what I'm saying.
- 44:15Speaker 1: Or you know what I'm saying, radio ready or just
- 44:17Speaker 1: a single that everyone will like just because it sounds
- 44:20Speaker 1: sonically just good. Have you worked with have you got
- 44:23Speaker 1: to lique him at all? No? I feel like you guys, Yeah,
- 44:26Speaker 1: I think so. I was definitely a fan early and
- 44:30Speaker 1: then you know what I'm saying, I'm somebody too, cause
- 44:32Speaker 1: it's like I'll be a fan of people and then
- 44:36Speaker 1: once they get like their wave going, I'll hit people
- 44:39Speaker 1: up and be like congrats to this and that, and
- 44:41Speaker 1: then I don't I feel like I'd be seeming like
- 44:43Speaker 1: the person who hopped on the wave more so when
- 44:45Speaker 1: I'm just like seeing it like from the outside like thing.
- 44:48Speaker 1: I watched you grind up. I remember when I was
- 44:50Speaker 1: the only person listening to you and then I hit you,
- 44:52Speaker 1: and then you might think like, dang, they just trying
- 44:54Speaker 1: to hop on the wave. Have you reached out to Blast?
- 44:57Speaker 1: I don't remember if I reached out to Black. I know,
- 45:00Speaker 1: I feel like I might have sent Blasts the DM
- 45:02Speaker 1: or something, or because I work. I got a record
- 45:05Speaker 1: with Bino, Bino's crazy. Yeah, I got a record with
- 45:07Speaker 1: Bino right now, and I remember that's kind of where
- 45:10Speaker 1: I heard Blast was from. Beano had a record. So
- 45:14Speaker 1: but now I planned on reaching out. You know what
- 45:16Speaker 1: I'm saying, I was letting it just that might be
- 45:18Speaker 1: a vibe you and Blast. I think that'll be easy
- 45:21Speaker 1: vibe because I hear when I hear it, I hear
- 45:23Speaker 1: already what I would would do, and how comfortable that
- 45:26Speaker 1: would be. Hey, he's working, man, I know he works
- 45:28Speaker 1: with Mazie a lot. You know, obviously him and Bino
- 45:30Speaker 1: got I think they're working on us follow up to
- 45:32Speaker 1: their tape. But you know he's going crazy right now.
- 45:34Speaker 1: He's definitely going crazy. It's dope to see that, for sure. Yeah,
- 45:37Speaker 1: that'd be that'd be wild that'd be that might be
- 45:40Speaker 1: like that has to happen. Yeah, I think that has
- 45:42Speaker 1: to happen. I've been honestly, I was thinking about it,
- 45:44Speaker 1: like like, if you're going to come back with like
- 45:46Speaker 1: one of them R and B type records, has got
- 45:47Speaker 1: to be blast. Yeah. Yeah, i'ma have I'm have hooked
- 45:50Speaker 1: that up. Yeah, that'd be crazy, that'll be fire. Well, look,
- 45:54Speaker 1: the album is out Friday, Friday, Thursday night midnight Thursday.
- 45:59Speaker 1: Actually this will come out next Monday, so the albumill
- 46:02Speaker 1: already be out. Actually, I don't know when this is
- 46:04Speaker 1: gonna come out. I'm ask Will when he wants to
- 46:06Speaker 1: drop this, because we might drop it Friday. Yeah, but
- 46:08Speaker 1: you know it'll be out out album out alive thirteen records,
- 46:14Speaker 1: three already out, so ten brand new records. Y'all never heard?
- 46:18Speaker 1: Videos coming, videos coming. I gotta you know what I'm saying,
- 46:21Speaker 1: Night and day video drop day at the album, and
- 46:24Speaker 1: then I wanted to stack up a bunch of videos.
- 46:29Speaker 1: I got a couple of different promo videos for some
- 46:31Speaker 1: of the records. But I kind of want to take
- 46:33Speaker 1: that first week and see what people are rocking with
- 46:37Speaker 1: and make sure I give them that first one metrics
- 46:40Speaker 1: and be like, all right, this is what they're fucking with,
- 46:42Speaker 1: like this is what they want to see a video
- 46:43Speaker 1: to right now, and then go back to just doing
- 46:46Speaker 1: a video for everything. By the way, did you ever
- 46:50Speaker 1: find out who fucking got in your house? I don't.
- 46:56Speaker 1: I didn't find out who got in my house. I
- 46:57Speaker 1: know what they look like. I've seen, I've seen in
- 47:00Speaker 1: the screen. I just didn't know if like anything ever
- 47:02Speaker 1: came to that, you're ever getting your ship back or
- 47:04Speaker 1: they were hitting houses like in your neighborhood, right, yeah,
- 47:06Speaker 1: they was. They had a whole little thing going on.
- 47:08Speaker 1: And then you know, the police came to the crib.
- 47:10Speaker 1: They they thought I did it, like damn the insurance
- 47:14Speaker 1: they was giving me to talk and I almost got
- 47:16Speaker 1: hot with them in the crib. And then uh, after that,
- 47:20Speaker 1: they had like some some uh I don't even know
- 47:23Speaker 1: what you call, some police officer or whoever detective there
- 47:28Speaker 1: we go, i'muck police, some detective I was supposed to
- 47:30Speaker 1: call me and uh give me the rundown of what
- 47:34Speaker 1: was going on and updates, And then every time I
- 47:37Speaker 1: tried to hit them up, there was never no updates
- 47:40Speaker 1: like that, And I wasn't trying to really keep up
- 47:41Speaker 1: with the police like that, so I just kind of
- 47:43Speaker 1: let it go. These fools I got jacked. They jacked
- 47:47Speaker 1: my whip I was at the bank, followed me out
- 47:51Speaker 1: of the bank. I stopped at the UPS store. While
- 47:54Speaker 1: I was in the UPS store, these fools blew out
- 47:56Speaker 1: my back window took fifteen grand cash out of my trunk.
- 48:00Speaker 1: The cops had their car and they couldn't like the
- 48:03Speaker 1: license plate was like fuzzy, but they could have figured
- 48:05Speaker 1: it out. They had video of the girl who followed
- 48:07Speaker 1: me out of the bank and got in that car,
- 48:10Speaker 1: and I had never heard. I'm like, bro, did y'all
- 48:11Speaker 1: even try to get my ship back? So be honest,
- 48:14Speaker 1: I tried way harder than them for that first week
- 48:17Speaker 1: and me too, Like I had got to a point
- 48:18Speaker 1: where I'm the one who got the footage because I
- 48:21Speaker 1: went I went to the gas station that I stopped at,
- 48:23Speaker 1: and I had to chip off the guys. Look, give
- 48:25Speaker 1: me the footage. They had to follow me here because
- 48:27Speaker 1: I went here before I went to the other spot
- 48:28Speaker 1: where I got robbed, and I had to give I
- 48:30Speaker 1: gave the cops the footage, like I got the footage
- 48:32Speaker 1: that was right that's the same thing I did. I
- 48:34Speaker 1: gave cops more footage, and I went to the neighbors
- 48:36Speaker 1: and it was one of those things where they were
- 48:39Speaker 1: supposed to be able to go through some other people's
- 48:42Speaker 1: cameras in the neighborhood and they be able to spot
- 48:44Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, because I saw the car,
- 48:47Speaker 1: but I couldn't see no plates. In the way that
- 48:49Speaker 1: they did, it's a whole run. They got a whole
- 48:52Speaker 1: route out the neighborhood, through the neighborhood where they don't
- 48:54Speaker 1: have to know what they were doing, go straight to
- 48:56Speaker 1: the freeway. I lost like, I lost like five chains.
- 49:02Speaker 1: I think my girl lost like two chains. Bracelet. To
- 49:06Speaker 1: be honest, I did have insurance, but they wasn't covering that.
- 49:11Speaker 1: They didn't cover it. They didn't cover anything. I had
- 49:16Speaker 1: paperwork and all that ship and I went through you
- 49:18Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, everything I needed to go through,
- 49:20Speaker 1: but they wasn't covering it. Learning experience, man, Yeah, I
- 49:23Speaker 1: learned from it. Yeah, look, kid Ink, appreciate you coming through.
- 49:26Speaker 1: New album. Hey, let's let's for the radio show. Introduce
- 49:29Speaker 1: a record man, which I don't know, Uh, it'll be
- 49:34Speaker 1: two out whichever one you are gonna have clean for me.
- 49:38Speaker 1: Oh yeah, okay, you just need to give you that
- 49:40Speaker 1: today too, all right? Uh y'all, what's up this? Your
- 49:44Speaker 1: boy kid ink right here and this is my new record,
- 49:46Speaker 1: red Light Off the Project Alive. You already know what
- 49:49Speaker 1: it is. We ain't here baby Alumni back game, one
- 49:52Speaker 1: time Boulet Kid. Whoop whoop,
