- 1:00Speaker 1: fantastic environment, sold out crowd. Austin Hannen of Clemson two
- 1:04Speaker 1: four to seven will join us Friday as well. I
- 1:08Speaker 1: wanted to talk to you guys about a couple key
- 1:12Speaker 1: storylines in this game. I asked ours, I asked j Vogel,
- 1:15Speaker 1: you know what are they looking for in this game
- 1:17Speaker 1: that's going to help the side the outcome of this game?
- 1:20Speaker 1: And I think a couple things stand out to me.
- 1:23Speaker 1: And the first thing is exposed to place from both sides.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Texas offense second in the country with ninety one plays
- 1:32Speaker 1: of twenty twenty yards or more, Tenth in the country
- 1:37Speaker 1: in plays of thirty yards or more. Their Texas offense,
- 1:40Speaker 1: Sark is great at those big plays. Even though maybe
- 1:44Speaker 1: maybe Texas fans don't have the deep ball as much
- 1:48Speaker 1: as they would like. Sark is great at scheming up
- 1:51Speaker 1: those plays twenty or thirty yards or more. Cops an offense,
- 1:55Speaker 1: what about them, well, not too shabby, Eleventh in the
- 1:59Speaker 1: country in plays of twenty yards are more six in
- 2:03Speaker 1: plays where they go thirty yards or more so two
- 2:06Speaker 1: offenses with two offenses that are capable of creating exposedive plays.
- 2:12Speaker 1: But what about defensively? Texas defense first and limiting plays
- 2:19Speaker 1: of twenty yards or more and thirty yards are more.
- 2:22Speaker 1: There's no other defense in the country that is better
- 2:26Speaker 1: at stopping exposive plays than the Texas Longhorns. What about
- 2:30Speaker 1: Clemson one third in eighty third Clemson defense, Well, the
- 2:37Speaker 1: offense is good at exposive plays, the defense is not
- 2:41Speaker 1: at limiting them. So something to keep an eye out
- 2:44Speaker 1: for is the exposed to play a battle. I think
- 2:46Speaker 1: for Clemson to be able to not just win this game,
- 2:50Speaker 1: but even compete in it is their ability to manufacture
- 2:53Speaker 1: big plays twenty thirty yards or more. Film offa their
- 2:57Speaker 1: star running back shoulder injury played against SMU. Do not
- 3:01Speaker 1: have a good game. He needs shoulder surgery. After the
- 3:04Speaker 1: season he will play. Jay Haynes is out. So Clemson,
- 3:09Speaker 1: like Texas, pretty banged up at the running back position. Now,
- 3:12Speaker 1: of course, they do have a running quarterback adul threat
- 3:14Speaker 1: quarterback in Kate club Neck. Texas does not with equin yours,
- 3:18Speaker 1: so that will help him a lot. But Tigers team
- 3:22Speaker 1: that needs explosive plays. I think to be able to
- 3:24Speaker 1: compete in this game, I'm gonna have to do it
- 3:27Speaker 1: with a lot of passing attack. Maybe it's gonna be
- 3:29Speaker 1: Kadi Clubnick able to great plays with his legs. Expect
- 3:33Speaker 1: to see a lot of Antonio Williams. But if Texas
- 3:35Speaker 1: able to take away Clemson's downfield attack. I don't see
- 3:40Speaker 1: how the Tigers are going to be able to win
- 3:42Speaker 1: this game because I do not think they will be
- 3:44Speaker 1: able to run against the Texas defensive front. I just
- 3:46Speaker 1: do not see it happening. They've had some good games
- 3:48Speaker 1: here and there, but in games against good defenses, they
- 3:51Speaker 1: have struggled. Georgia, Louisville, South Carolina. You look at the
- 3:55Speaker 1: teams in terms of sp plus metric, the metric for ESPN,
- 4:01Speaker 1: and when they face defenses in the top twenty. Georgia
- 4:05Speaker 1: eleventh overall in defensive sp plus lost thirty four to three.
- 4:09Speaker 1: South Carolina twelfth, lost seventeen to fourteen. Two games right there,
- 4:13Speaker 1: Two games right there, facing a top twenty defense in
- 4:16Speaker 1: the country, Clemson combined for seventeen total points. I think
- 4:20Speaker 1: they'll be lucky to get the seventeen against Texas on Saturday,
- 4:23Speaker 1: they get the twenty, maybe they win. This might be
- 4:27Speaker 1: the first team the twenty who wins this game. Considering
- 4:30Speaker 1: how banged up and nicked up the Texas offenses in
- 4:33Speaker 1: terms of quen you weers injury now, CJ. Faluk, would
- 4:35Speaker 1: they tell us earlier in the show that the brace
- 4:37Speaker 1: is off he is about as close to one hundred
- 4:40Speaker 1: percent as he has been sends the injury before before
- 4:45Speaker 1: Louisiana Monroe. So we'll see. We'll see on that. Kelvin
- 4:49Speaker 1: Banks probably will start, will be limited, isay a Bond?
- 4:52Speaker 1: That one scares me the most because if he does play,
- 4:55Speaker 1: he'll be very limited. But I think Texas is missing
- 4:57Speaker 1: his ability to take the top off the defense, his
- 5:01Speaker 1: vertical threat, being able to take the ball all the
- 5:04Speaker 1: backfield and run. Texas has been missing that for quite
- 5:08Speaker 1: some time. They need him to be one hundred percent.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I think to be able to win a national championship.
- 5:14Speaker 1: It's not about Quinn Newrs. I think it's about Isaiah
- 5:16Speaker 1: Bond being able to be healthy in the helpout Sark
- 5:18Speaker 1: offensively and take some pressure off of Quinn and the
- 5:21Speaker 1: rushing attack. But going back to Clemson, when they're facing
- 5:24Speaker 1: these top defenses, they've struggled. They have struggled now SMU
- 5:28Speaker 1: twenty six in sp plus thirty one to thirty three.
- 5:32Speaker 1: They put up thirty points in that game, a lot
- 5:35Speaker 1: of scoring towards the very end. As SMU was able
- 5:38Speaker 1: to come back that Mustang is able to put some
- 5:40Speaker 1: points up on Clemson's defense. What about Texas where they
- 5:44Speaker 1: ranked second second. So the closest thing to the Texas
- 5:50Speaker 1: defense that Clemson has faced this season. They have scored
- 5:53Speaker 1: three points in fourteen points against and now they're facing
- 5:57Speaker 1: them on the road. The AKR sold out crowd line
- 6:02Speaker 1: is eleven and a half. For a reason here, folks,
- 6:04Speaker 1: do not overthink it. Special teams. I think it's gonna
- 6:08Speaker 1: be a key point in this game because both special
- 6:10Speaker 1: teams on both sides have been stinky this season. Texas
- 6:14Speaker 1: one to fifteenth in special teams sp plus Clemson ninety ninth.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I mean, I think you know they had like a
- 6:20Speaker 1: walk on kicker at some point. Maybe they still do.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Uh.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Nolan Hawser is their field goal kicker. He's been seventy
- 6:26Speaker 1: three percent this season. He's one of four between forty
- 6:30Speaker 1: and forty nine yards. He is two and two plus fifty.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Keep that in mind, Burt Auburn, see they mention it.
- 6:36Speaker 1: You know, we thought last year was gonna win the
- 6:38Speaker 1: Luke Rose Award for Best kicker. This season, not in
- 6:41Speaker 1: the race at all. Sixty six percent field goal rate
- 6:44Speaker 1: this year between forty and forty nine, six of eleven
- 6:48Speaker 1: beyond fifty zero for two. I feel like on the
- 6:51Speaker 1: right hash mark, if it's past forty, he's gonna miss it.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I don't know what the deal is with that. He
- 6:57Speaker 1: was so good last season. I don't know where what
- 7:00Speaker 1: has changed between last year and this year for bert Auburn.
- 7:03Speaker 1: But again, I think the two X factors for Texas
- 7:07Speaker 1: in this playoff run, it's not Quinn yours, guys. I
- 7:09Speaker 1: think it's Isaiah Bond's health and if bert Auburn can
- 7:12Speaker 1: make a field goal, because Texas could be an SEC
- 7:15Speaker 1: champion and have an extra week to prepare for a
- 7:18Speaker 1: college football game. If bert Auburn knocks down one of
- 7:21Speaker 1: two field goals, and of course there was the false
- 7:22Speaker 1: start on Malik Acbo that pushed Texas back five yards
- 7:25Speaker 1: after or Auburn missed made the first one, that missed
- 7:28Speaker 1: the second one. A lot of reasons why Texas last game,
- 7:31Speaker 1: not just Burt Auburn, but not having a reliable field
- 7:33Speaker 1: goal kicker has been hurting Texas so far this season.
- 7:38Speaker 1: So there's the health part of it. I mentioned Haines
- 7:40Speaker 1: in film offa for Clemson being dinged up. The special
- 7:43Speaker 1: team's part of it as well, the defensive part of
- 7:47Speaker 1: it and then the exposive plays the last thing and
- 7:50Speaker 1: this might just be the old journalist part in me
- 7:54Speaker 1: is the quarterback battle Kate Klebnick Quin Yours. I mean,
- 7:58Speaker 1: it's a fun storyline. Guys, come on south Lake Carrol
- 8:01Speaker 1: Firus west Lake. West Lake beat south Lake Carrol when
- 8:04Speaker 1: Clubbing was the quarterback at west Lake and when Quinn
- 8:07Speaker 1: was the quarterback of south Lake Carol, the won the
- 8:08Speaker 1: state championship game. Cade commits to Clemson, obviously, spends all
- 8:13Speaker 1: of his time in college at Clemson, desig nder the portal.
- 8:16Speaker 1: He comes back, Quinn goes Wilas State. He comes back
- 8:20Speaker 1: back to back playoff appearances for Quinn Yours Kate club
- 8:23Speaker 1: Nick his first playoff appearance. It's a fun storyline. It's
- 8:25Speaker 1: a fun storyline. And in for Kay club Knick, he
- 8:27Speaker 1: gets to come back home and play Texas of course
- 8:30Speaker 1: for the first time. And so club Nick was asked
- 8:33Speaker 1: about it two days ago on Monday, about returning to
- 8:37Speaker 1: his hometown of aunts In to play in the college
- 8:39Speaker 1: football playoff.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Yeah, obviously, I've had a you know, quite a bit
- 8:44Speaker 2: A few people reach out to me in the last
- 8:46Speaker 2: week and a half. I think, like last Sunday, Monday, Tuesday,
- 8:51Speaker 2: just kind of kind of embrace it and kind of
- 8:53Speaker 2: just got to sit there and enjoy just the feeling of, Hey,
- 8:56Speaker 2: I'm getting to go home, and you know, the guys
- 8:59Speaker 2: I'm going to be playing and the people that are
- 9:00Speaker 2: gonna be there, and just kind of enjoyed that for
- 9:03Speaker 2: one or two days, and uh, and then after that, uh,
- 9:06Speaker 2: really just kind of set my mind on the task
- 9:09Speaker 2: at hand, you know. And it's it's one thing to
- 9:12Speaker 2: kind of know where you're gonna be playing, but at
- 9:15Speaker 2: the end of the day, you know that the ball
- 9:16Speaker 2: is gonna get set and you got to go focus
- 9:18Speaker 2: on job, job right in front of you. So kind
- 9:22Speaker 2: of enjoyed it for a little bit and then locked
- 9:24Speaker 2: in on the people were playing and and really just
- 9:26Speaker 2: focused on on the team that we're playing. And that's
- 9:30Speaker 2: that's kind of been my mindset since last Tuesday. And
- 9:33Speaker 2: but obviously excited to go home. I think that you know,
- 9:36Speaker 2: I've kind of drifted away and really just kind of
- 9:40Speaker 2: focus on the preparation that comes with it since then.
- 9:44Speaker 2: But I think once I get there, you know, it'll
- 9:46Speaker 2: definitely be a little a little while, you know, flying
- 9:50Speaker 2: into that airport and making that drive and stuff, and yeah,
- 9:54Speaker 2: it'll be cool.
- 9:55Speaker 1: It's gonna be a fun, fun game for k club Man.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Gonna be fun to see him interact with my Taff
- 10:00Speaker 1: who one of his closest friends, and now instead of
- 10:04Speaker 1: being teammates like they were in high school, going to
- 10:06Speaker 1: be opponents, rivals on the football field. On Saturday, three
- 10:10Speaker 1: o'clock kickoff, two o'clock Network coverage begins to Craig Way,
- 10:13Speaker 1: Roger Wallas. Our coverage begins at noon myself, Mike Hardball, Harge,
- 10:18Speaker 1: and Mark Henry Longhordon's Game Day live on Beevill Boulevard
- 10:21Speaker 1: right here on AM thirteen hundred to zone up. Next,
- 10:25Speaker 1: we've got Craig Way calling in from Jerry World.
