Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Adam Lefgo of TNT is with us.
- 0:06Speaker 2: He's also in a group chat of mine, a tennis
- 0:08Speaker 2: group chat of mine, which I don't really participate too much. Really,
- 0:11Speaker 2: my numbers on there's probably one you don't have saved.
- 0:13Speaker 2: It's one of those three or five that you don't recognize.
- 0:16Speaker 3: I've always wondered what it was like for the non
- 0:19Speaker 3: participators to be getting like two am texts about tennis
- 0:23Speaker 3: tournaments in Thailand, and I'm just like, they have to
- 0:26Speaker 3: be so annoyed these Tommy Paul takes.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I love blowers.
- 0:32Speaker 4: He had to get roped into this group text. How'd
- 0:34Speaker 4: you get roped into it?
- 0:35Speaker 5: You know?
- 0:35Speaker 2: Mike Ryan is a very powerful human being, and he
- 0:38Speaker 2: just talked about it one day and made it sound
- 0:41Speaker 2: like the best group chat ever, and so I asked
- 0:43Speaker 2: to be a party.
- 0:44Speaker 4: He has a group chat about shitting, I mean everything
- 0:47Speaker 4: that he put me in a group chat about like
- 0:50Speaker 4: dads right Like I was about to have a kid,
- 0:52Speaker 4: and I realized I don't care about any of your kids.
- 0:56Speaker 3: And it felt really creepy to be getting all these
- 0:58Speaker 3: texts about like look at my one year old.
- 1:00Speaker 5: Daughter, and I'm like, dude, and I and then I
- 1:03Speaker 5: was like, how do I just leave a conversation with
- 1:05Speaker 5: these dads? Share it?
- 1:06Speaker 2: And I was like, I'm out, Yes, it's great, dada sphere.
- 1:12Speaker 1: So last year, there has nothing to do with that
- 1:14Speaker 1: text thread.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Last year I saw a tweet it said I'm just
- 1:18Speaker 2: now realizing that Adam Lefgo and Jared Greenberg are different people,
- 1:21Speaker 2: and it had this sort of mind blown emoji and
- 1:24Speaker 2: I never confused you guys.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Ever, I'm two.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Last year at the All Star Game, I was at
- 1:31Speaker 2: the game or at the event whatever, Saturday, and this
- 1:34Speaker 2: was shortly after you, I think, did some glorilla on
- 1:38Speaker 2: the air. Yes, right, and so that kind of got
- 1:41Speaker 2: a little bit of viral virility to it. And so
- 1:44Speaker 2: I walked up to Jared, knowing full well, he is
- 1:47Speaker 2: not the studio host. You were the studio host. You
- 1:49Speaker 2: were the one who did the glorilla, and I just
- 1:51Speaker 2: had a huge brain fart and I started talking about it,
- 1:56Speaker 2: and he immediately went from that fake face you give
- 1:59Speaker 2: everybody when you're seeing them for the first time in
- 2:01Speaker 2: a long time to how he really felt, and he
- 2:04Speaker 2: was like that was left go and he turned around
- 2:06Speaker 2: and like I didn't want to look at him again.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I was like, oh, no, I have done the thing
- 2:11Speaker 2: that everybody else, well a couple of people in the
- 2:13Speaker 2: world have done, and I'm just curious.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Am I a jerk for that? Or do you get
- 2:17Speaker 1: that off it?
- 2:18Speaker 5: A few things.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Number one, because my wife is Nigeria and she reminds
- 2:23Speaker 3: me that a lot of white people do look alike,
- 2:25Speaker 3: even though he don't think we look alike. So that's
- 2:28Speaker 3: always helpful too. You gave me some PTSD. I was
- 2:31Speaker 3: in the sauna at my gym in Brooklyn and this
- 2:34Speaker 3: guy looked at me and he goes Jared Greenberg, and
- 2:38Speaker 3: I was like, nah, bro, it's no, it's it's uh. Well,
- 2:46Speaker 3: I love Jared, He's awesome. But that glorilla thing is
- 2:49Speaker 3: also the reason that my son thinks when he sees TNT,
- 2:52Speaker 3: he says bowl Bowl because I did a bowl Bowl freestyle.
- 2:57Speaker 3: He my son also when he sees Shack says bowl
- 3:00Speaker 3: because that freestyle went like triple platinum in my house.
- 3:04Speaker 5: My son wants to listen to it all the time,
- 3:05Speaker 5: but not too money. Jared Greenberg's I also get the sun.
- 3:11Speaker 3: From weekend at Bernie's. But that guy's like older now,
- 3:14Speaker 3: so it's not the same thing.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I have to rewatch it. Okay, yes, yes, I see
- 3:21Speaker 1: it right.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I just felt like such a tide. I can never
- 3:24Speaker 2: see Jared again. I'm just I can't even believe that
- 3:26Speaker 2: I'm admitting this to you.
- 3:27Speaker 1: But no, I love it. Left left go.
- 3:31Speaker 4: I'm so happy for you because I turn on my television,
- 3:33Speaker 4: you're there. You're the studio host for the NCAA Tournament.
- 3:36Speaker 4: I've known you for a long time. It puts a
- 3:38Speaker 4: smile on my face. And what I see as I
- 3:41Speaker 4: get older here and people are starting to ask me
- 3:43Speaker 4: for advice about how to navigate through this industry is
- 3:47Speaker 4: I got into this business wanting one thing, and that
- 3:50Speaker 4: was to do a radio show. And I wanted to
- 3:52Speaker 4: create a radio show that was appointment listening, meaning I
- 3:55Speaker 4: used to make sure I made sure I was in.
- 3:57Speaker 1: My car one o'clock micing the Mad Dog.
- 3:59Speaker 4: And I wanted to try to create a show that
- 4:02Speaker 4: had that kind of feeling. And Dan and I were
- 4:05Speaker 4: able to do it. But I remember feeling career bliss
- 4:09Speaker 4: in the middle of it, because I'm like, holy shit,
- 4:12Speaker 4: I've arrived here and they're paying me a lot of
- 4:14Speaker 4: money to do something that is so much fun. And
- 4:18Speaker 4: what I see on your face when you're doing this stuff,
- 4:21Speaker 4: whether it's tennis, whether it's the NCAA tournament, is a
- 4:24Speaker 4: guy who has achieved his goals. I know you're not
- 4:26Speaker 4: done yet, You're always pushing forward, you're always building, But
- 4:29Speaker 4: that's what I see. A guy who's relaxed, a guy
- 4:32Speaker 4: who has fulfilled his goals.
- 4:34Speaker 1: And is doing exactly what it is he wants to do.
- 4:36Speaker 5: I appreciate that.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Yeah, Like the first time that I filled in for
- 4:40Speaker 3: Ernie and there was like a clip where we showed
- 4:44Speaker 3: Zion and he didn't look great and Chuck was like.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Man, that looks like me and Shaq had a baby.
- 4:50Speaker 3: And the clip went viral, and like I sometimes feel
- 4:54Speaker 3: that when I'm like in bed and like a great
- 4:56Speaker 3: insight clip comes up and an I'm on it and
- 4:58Speaker 3: I'm like, dude, that was all like getting the host
- 5:01Speaker 3: inside really was the thing I always wanted, and since
- 5:05Speaker 3: I got to do it now, it's all like free cash, right.
- 5:10Speaker 5: But yeah, like like you're saying, there are those moments.
- 5:12Speaker 3: There will be like a time during the French Open
- 5:14Speaker 3: or March Madness where I'm in it and and it's
- 5:17Speaker 3: usually when like an analyst is talking and I look
- 5:20Speaker 3: and for some reason, I don't see the legs.
- 5:22Speaker 5: I don't see the cameras. I just see all the.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Behind the scenes people and they're all like really paying attention,
- 5:27Speaker 3: and I'm like, damn, I'm doing that thing.
- 5:30Speaker 5: I'm doing the thing. And that is a that's a
- 5:32Speaker 5: cool feeling. It's cool that you can recognize that.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Yes, well yeah, I mean listen, I've experienced it.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I know it. I know what it feels like.
- 5:40Speaker 4: It's the greatest it's the greatest professional feeling in the world.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Because you would do that shit for free, would you not?
- 5:46Speaker 5: No? I wouldn't.
- 5:46Speaker 1: That's that hell. No, it's so expensive.
- 5:50Speaker 5: What are you talking about for free?
- 5:54Speaker 3: If I was your boss, I'm playing that in negotiations.
- 5:57Speaker 5: I'm like, really, so he looks that happy?
- 6:01Speaker 1: He does.
- 6:02Speaker 4: He looks at he wanted this in the worst way
- 6:04Speaker 4: and he's arrived there, and that's a great feeling.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I thought you would do it for free. I'm shocked
- 6:08Speaker 1: that you wouldn't. To be honest, I.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Would say this if I if I like that question,
- 6:12Speaker 3: if you hit the lottery, would you still go to work?
- 6:14Speaker 5: And I would do that? But like bro, I would
- 6:18Speaker 5: be broke, and I can't do that.
- 6:22Speaker 1: It'd be freestyle wrapping for his life.
- 6:24Speaker 5: All right on the corner mere like Bowl Bowl.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Rahaps I took it too far? Sorry about that? Go
- 6:31Speaker 1: ahead is yeah No.
- 6:32Speaker 2: On that note, I'm trying to figure out which is
- 6:34Speaker 2: your favorite moment of the tournament so far, because to me,
- 6:38Speaker 2: it felt like when the Florida final boss turned into
- 6:42Speaker 2: a Nebraska final boss that you guys love that, Yeah.
- 6:46Speaker 5: That was I can't.
- 6:47Speaker 3: That's the thing about the NCAA tournament doesn't make sense,
- 6:49Speaker 3: Like Iowa like the nine seed. They're the team that
- 6:53Speaker 3: out rebounded Florida and then they go and out shoot Nebraska.
- 6:56Speaker 5: Yeah, and you're and so none of it makes sense.
- 6:59Speaker 3: And it's as Jalen Rose as it's one shot, one kill,
- 7:02Speaker 3: so like anything can happen. I thought the Dylan Darlin
- 7:06Speaker 3: ending with Saint John's was an amazing ending. I think
- 7:10Speaker 3: the first high point game before at least I realized
- 7:13Speaker 3: that their white guy that doesn't shoot twos is actually
- 7:16Speaker 3: twenty six years old and they're like the richest like
- 7:20Speaker 3: college in the country.
- 7:21Speaker 5: I was like, Wow, what a Cinderella.
- 7:26Speaker 3: But I think my favorite moment right now is the
- 7:31Speaker 3: thirty seconds after the game when the coach is doing
- 7:34Speaker 3: the postgame interview and the players are like, I get
- 7:37Speaker 3: a chance to throw a sweaty towel on my coach.
- 7:40Speaker 5: It's low key becoming my favorite thing.
- 7:42Speaker 3: And there was one that was really bad when Nebraska
- 7:45Speaker 3: beat Vanderbilt. Fred Hoiberg's there and one of the players
- 7:50Speaker 3: takes off his sweaty headband and tries to put it
- 7:52Speaker 3: on Fred Hoiberg, and it's like you see it dripping,
- 7:56Speaker 3: and Hoiberg turns around and goes stop and then the
- 7:59Speaker 3: player just in the back And though, I dude, that's
- 8:02Speaker 3: the thing about sports I love is the awkward moments
- 8:05Speaker 3: because I've seen so many shots that I've seen so
- 8:08Speaker 3: many wins and losses that like knowing that this dude
- 8:11Speaker 3: got yelled at by this coach for three years and
- 8:13Speaker 3: finally he's like.
- 8:16Speaker 5: That puts at towel on him. I think that's hilarious.
- 8:19Speaker 2: So, speaking of wet towels on Fred Hoiberg, yes, he
- 8:22Speaker 2: left four players out there yesterday and a very crucial
- 8:25Speaker 2: possession and this was this was supposed to be the
- 8:28Speaker 2: feel good tournament for Freddy won his first NCAA tournament
- 8:31Speaker 2: game they went on the little run whatever, and then
- 8:34Speaker 2: that happens, Like that's gonna weigh more than the first win, right,
- 8:38Speaker 2: that's gonna linger for a long.
- 8:39Speaker 5: I don't think so.
- 8:40Speaker 3: No, I think because I think if it had been
- 8:43Speaker 3: if that was like at the buzzer, because I think
- 8:46Speaker 3: I would have been the end of the game of
- 8:48Speaker 3: like a sixteen to five run, So it was like
- 8:49Speaker 3: kind of part of it. I also don't necessarily know
- 8:52Speaker 3: if it's his fault, like that might have just been
- 8:54Speaker 3: a coach being like I'm gonna take the blame because
- 8:56Speaker 3: the kid was still sitting on the bench, so.
- 8:58Speaker 1: The heck no, And like, yeah, but the head coach
- 9:01Speaker 1: is in charge there. You got to know that.
- 9:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean you just did. You got totans account right,
- 9:05Speaker 4: how many are out there? It's five, you know.
- 9:06Speaker 3: But I just think you the brask defense have been
- 9:10Speaker 3: hearing for like fifty years.
- 9:12Speaker 5: You're the only team that hasn't won. And then you
- 9:14Speaker 5: go to the sweet sixteen.
- 9:16Speaker 3: I think you're good, but there definitely are like Kansas
- 9:20Speaker 3: like that. None of that season feels good the way
- 9:23Speaker 3: that that ended. And then there's a few other teams.
- 9:26Speaker 3: I think you have these great seasons and when it
- 9:28Speaker 3: kind of collapses in the first weekend, it turns a
- 9:32Speaker 3: great season into a mediocre season because we only judge
- 9:35Speaker 3: it based on what happens.
- 9:36Speaker 5: Now.
- 9:37Speaker 4: How excited are you for tonight because it's the rare
- 9:39Speaker 4: final four?
- 9:40Speaker 1: Before the Final four, I mean that East Region is loaded.
- 9:43Speaker 4: Saint John's Duke, Michigan State, Yukon a couple of games
- 9:47Speaker 4: there left go.
- 9:48Speaker 5: I'm so excited to watch Rick Patino yell for two hours.
- 9:51Speaker 3: It's again like I like the weird parts, like the
- 9:55Speaker 3: Hurley mc cronin Yellfest was so funny to be like,
- 9:58Speaker 3: I just thought about the ref afterwards, just completely stressed
- 10:02Speaker 3: and exhausted. I'm very excited for Saint John's Duke. I
- 10:06Speaker 3: think they legitimately have a chance to pull the upset
- 10:09Speaker 3: and then Hurley Izzo. In terms of the strategy, Yukon
- 10:14Speaker 3: is one of the few teams that I watch and
- 10:16Speaker 3: I and Arizona is another one where I go, I
- 10:19Speaker 3: would steal all of these plays if I was other
- 10:21Speaker 3: teams around the country. The thing that upsets me about
- 10:25Speaker 3: the bracket is I just I don't think that Yukon,
- 10:28Speaker 3: excuse me, Duke should have been the number one overall
- 10:31Speaker 3: team with their injuries.
- 10:32Speaker 5: Right before I thought it was going to be either Arizona.
- 10:35Speaker 3: Or Michigan, And now because of that, Arizona and Michigan
- 10:39Speaker 3: will be a final four matchup and not what I thought,
- 10:42Speaker 3: which was going to be the national championship. But yeah,
- 10:46Speaker 3: the cool thing with the East is whoever comes out,
- 10:48Speaker 3: it's a great story. If Izo makes the final four,
- 10:51Speaker 3: if Dan Hurley puts it together and he's trying to
- 10:53Speaker 3: win it like three and four years, and then if
- 10:56Speaker 3: Rick Patino goes like yes, oh my god.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Yeah, think about the way he would have to go.
- 11:02Speaker 4: It would be through Kansas, then through Duke, and then
- 11:06Speaker 4: through either.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Yukon or Michigan State.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Just to get to within two games of winning a
- 11:10Speaker 4: national championship, you have to kill.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Him and then and then I would say likely on
- 11:14Speaker 3: the other side would probably be Illinois over Iowa.
- 11:17Speaker 5: That's just where I would guess. So then you're.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Taking on like the tallest team full of balcons that
- 11:23Speaker 3: are just like imported from Slovenia. Like I watched the
- 11:27Speaker 3: fact that after the game, I think it was Lauren
- 11:30Speaker 3: Shahati asked a question the guy's like I cannot tell you.
- 11:35Speaker 5: Drago is on Illinois. I crush you. It's so funny.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I must break you. Yeah.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Yeah, Like last night was just a bunch of like
- 11:45Speaker 3: shorter guys at Houston from Texas and Florida versus like
- 11:49Speaker 3: six nine Slovenians, and I was like, guys, this is foreshadowing,
- 11:54Speaker 3: like we're in trouble.
- 11:56Speaker 2: I don't think people recognize this enough. Like, go find
- 12:00Speaker 2: the closest seventy three year old to you, and to me,
- 12:04Speaker 2: that'd be like my mom, she's like a year older
- 12:05Speaker 2: than that. And then imagine them doing what Rick Patino
- 12:09Speaker 2: does on any given night of a basketball like getting
- 12:13Speaker 2: up and down and yelling that much. Most seventy year
- 12:15Speaker 2: olds would pass out in like five minutes of that.
- 12:17Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 12:18Speaker 3: I think about do you know that health guru online
- 12:20Speaker 3: Brian Johnson, and he's like always taking supplements and he's like, hey,
- 12:24Speaker 3: I'm eating shark fin now.
- 12:26Speaker 5: I'd be like, I don't care. I want you to
- 12:28Speaker 5: study Rick Patina.
- 12:29Speaker 3: What's his platinm what's that blood type? Like? Because he
- 12:34Speaker 3: looks up and he looks like he wakes up and
- 12:36Speaker 3: like takes a shot of Marinara sauce.
- 12:38Speaker 5: And then he live in his life. But no, you're right,
- 12:41Speaker 5: high functioning elderly person.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Shut a Marina. It's everyone else's blood. He sucks it
- 12:47Speaker 1: out of their necks.
- 12:48Speaker 5: Go ahead, does a bump a parmesan left?
- 12:51Speaker 3: Go.
- 12:51Speaker 4: I'm watching this tournament conflicted as a Carolina fan because
- 12:55Speaker 4: it feels like I need Arizona to lose so Carolina
- 12:59Speaker 4: could Gaugeloyd's interest.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Can you hear me? Damn, you got him test test tests. No,
- 13:07Speaker 1: let me.
- 13:09Speaker 4: Let me ask the question that Taylor wanted to ask.
- 13:12Speaker 4: He he's a Carolina fan. He went to Carolina walk
- 13:16Speaker 4: on football player, went there for track, walked onto the
- 13:18Speaker 4: football team. Uh, and he desperately wanted Youbert Davis out.
- 13:22Speaker 4: Yubert Davis is out. He wants Tommy Lloyd from Arizona.
- 13:25Speaker 4: Feels like Arizona needs to lose early. He needs to
- 13:28Speaker 4: lose now in order for that to happen.
- 13:30Speaker 5: But I need Arizona to knock out Duke.
- 13:32Speaker 1: But he needs Arizona to knockout Duke. I love doing
- 13:35Speaker 1: it this way by proxy.
- 13:36Speaker 5: Yes, that was incredible.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I think, yeah, you're in an O win situation.
- 13:41Speaker 3: I don't think Arizona now that he's broken through the
- 13:44Speaker 3: Sweet sixteen and gotten.
- 13:45Speaker 5: Too the Elite eight.
- 13:45Speaker 3: I don't think Tommy Lloyd's going anywhere. And I also
- 13:48Speaker 3: think I get I think that Arizona would pony up
- 13:52Speaker 3: and the nil money would be there.
- 13:54Speaker 5: And he's also like on an incredible run. We're gonna learn.
- 13:57Speaker 3: A lot about where the North Carolina job is value
- 14:00Speaker 3: and how much money is going to come forward. And
- 14:03Speaker 3: I do think it's interesting that this Bill Belichick move
- 14:07Speaker 3: could really cost them in basketball because the amount of
- 14:10Speaker 3: money they're paying Bill Belichick, the amount of nil that
- 14:13Speaker 3: they're having to allocate towards football, And like, if.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I was a singer, Oh this is tough.
- 14:19Speaker 3: If I was the CEO of a fortune five hundred company,
- 14:21Speaker 3: you need to understand, like this could be a loss.
- 14:24Speaker 3: And what you learn in business is you don't pour
- 14:27Speaker 3: more money into a loss. But they're going to pour
- 14:29Speaker 3: more money into Belichick because they can't let it be
- 14:32Speaker 3: a loss. But the more money you pour into that,
- 14:34Speaker 3: are you really expecting people to pour into basketball? So
- 14:37Speaker 3: it's that also where it's like, hey, Jordan, the ceiling
- 14:40Speaker 3: is the roof, right, I hear you make a billion
- 14:44Speaker 3: every year? I can you can you cut us ten,
- 14:47Speaker 3: can you cut us twenty?
- 14:48Speaker 5: So that's really fascinating.
- 14:50Speaker 3: I also think, and I said it on TV last night,
- 14:53Speaker 3: I kind of think Ben McCullum is low key becoming
- 14:57Speaker 3: the Kurt Signetti of basketball. This like long term bristly
- 15:02Speaker 3: assistant and that kind of came around and everywhere he goes.
- 15:05Speaker 3: In year one they start winning, and you know, you
- 15:08Speaker 3: could go and steal someone from Duke, but like you
- 15:10Speaker 3: could probably get Ben McCullum for like five million dollars.
- 15:14Speaker 3: And and the thing is too is North Carolina has
- 15:17Speaker 3: always hired North Carolina guys. I covered Kentucky and Louisville
- 15:21Speaker 3: for four years. Kentucky was one of those jobs where
- 15:24Speaker 3: like you needed to ingratiate yourself to the people of Lexington.
- 15:28Speaker 5: But I don't agree with that. Cali Parry did not
- 15:31Speaker 5: do that.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Calib Parry was like, this is my team and my
- 15:34Speaker 3: school and I'll show up and all that. And I
- 15:36Speaker 3: think sometimes when you become obsessed with finding people that
- 15:39Speaker 3: fit into the culture there, they get controlled by the culture.
- 15:43Speaker 3: You know that they're they're so worried about impressing people
- 15:46Speaker 3: that in year two when that person, like, you know,
- 15:47Speaker 3: you should really cut that kid.
- 15:49Speaker 5: Like then it's like, whoa.
- 15:50Speaker 2: I have to laugh to you now, Yes, he pulled
- 15:53Speaker 2: a North Carolina accent out of it.
- 15:57Speaker 5: It was good enough. It was good enough.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Yes, But.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Yeah, the North Carolina gig is it's interesting because is
- 16:05Speaker 3: that gig better than a job in Utah where you
- 16:08Speaker 3: have some of those tech founders that are going to
- 16:10Speaker 3: drop fifteen million dollars and it's a we're.
- 16:14Speaker 5: In an interesting time. But the jerseys are cool.
- 16:17Speaker 4: Yes, Listen, Taylor was hoping that you would talk him
- 16:20Speaker 4: off the ledge. He is now one step closer to
- 16:22Speaker 4: the ledge. Okay, but Adam.
- 16:26Speaker 5: One good higher and you're good?
- 16:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Like, well recruit and you're good. I think, right,
- 16:30Speaker 1: this is what Taylor's.
- 16:32Speaker 5: Going through right now.
- 16:32Speaker 3: We've all been there. We ended a relationship that we
- 16:35Speaker 3: knew wasn't good. But then three days later you're lonely, right,
- 16:39Speaker 3: and you're sitting at a bar and you're like, this
- 16:41Speaker 3: is what I have to choose from, Like this is
- 16:44Speaker 3: what I'm picking from. And you're sitting there and you're like,
- 16:46Speaker 3: but I did want this, And what's going to happen
- 16:49Speaker 3: is like another three days later, you're gonna be sitting
- 16:51Speaker 3: there on a Saturday afternoon with nothing to do, watching
- 16:54Speaker 3: sports and having a drink and going oh yeah, peace
- 16:58Speaker 3: that will come. But right now you're looking around at
- 17:01Speaker 3: a four and you're like.
- 17:03Speaker 5: Maybe, yeh, Taylor needs.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Some love, and I mean it's Taylor maybe a six.
- 17:13Speaker 4: Wait, so you you split up with Chris Sims and
- 17:16Speaker 4: never look back.
- 17:16Speaker 1: So what does that say about your relationship within Yeah?
- 17:20Speaker 3: Well, you know when it happened, I was like, all right,
- 17:23Speaker 3: I'm either gonna be the Jonah Hill or the Michael
- 17:25Speaker 3: Sarah of this situation.
- 17:27Speaker 5: Uh.
- 17:28Speaker 3: And I was like I kind of look like I
- 17:30Speaker 3: go through weight fluctuations like Jonah Hill.
- 17:32Speaker 5: So I'm gonna try and be that guy. Dude, you
- 17:35Speaker 5: know what I'll say to you.
- 17:37Speaker 3: When when Sims got the gig at NBC, which I
- 17:40Speaker 3: think now is like eight nine years ago, I was
- 17:42Speaker 3: shook to my core, Like I was like, who the
- 17:46Speaker 3: hell wants to hear what I have to say?
- 17:48Speaker 1: You guys had a great show together. Yes, yeah, there's that.
- 17:50Speaker 3: And then it's also Sims I thought was uniquely his
- 17:56Speaker 3: work ethic, the way he like studied football, like truly
- 17:59Speaker 3: watching film every not being online and having opinions that
- 18:02Speaker 3: he really believed that were not created to cause any controversy.
- 18:07Speaker 5: I was like, this guy is I like working with
- 18:09Speaker 5: workers like like I like.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Analysts that truly study and they come in and with
- 18:15Speaker 3: like notes because I'm like, oh, now we can create
- 18:18Speaker 3: something new and you're not going to just say something
- 18:20Speaker 3: for clicks. So when he when he left, I was like,
- 18:23Speaker 3: I'm gonna do a show by myself.
- 18:25Speaker 5: I was like, I was like, I know my role.
- 18:28Speaker 3: I was like, I'm the straight man that can like
- 18:30Speaker 3: let someone go or I'll have.
- 18:32Speaker 5: The crazy conspiracy theory take yes.
- 18:35Speaker 3: And but you know, there's that moment where you go
- 18:38Speaker 3: you're either going to believe that or you're just going
- 18:40Speaker 3: to keep going. And I think for the universe, whatever
- 18:44Speaker 3: it was set it up to where that's very Soon
- 18:47Speaker 3: after NBA on TNT came and a lot more hosting
- 18:50Speaker 3: roles came, and then Shaq called me one day.
- 18:54Speaker 5: It was like, hey, I want to a relationship to
- 18:56Speaker 5: the next level. And I was like, I don't know
- 18:59Speaker 5: what that meant. He was like, yo, I want to
- 19:01Speaker 5: do a podcast with you.
- 19:03Speaker 3: And I was like, okay, deal, and yeah, the universe
- 19:07Speaker 3: is funny like that, you know, I don't miss uh
- 19:11Speaker 3: the way with Sims would eat Chipotle bowls with like
- 19:14Speaker 3: a serving spoon from like a salad bowl. You know,
- 19:20Speaker 3: I appreciate not having to walk into work and Sims
- 19:24Speaker 3: being like, what are you up five pounds?
- 19:26Speaker 5: And I'd be like what, Wow.
- 19:27Speaker 4: Now he's always checking you out. He is, He's always
- 19:30Speaker 4: checking you out, and he's got comments for you.
- 19:32Speaker 3: I'm learning a lot of athletes because they always are
- 19:35Speaker 3: like looking at body types, are constantly sizing up normal
- 19:39Speaker 3: human beings. Because if you ever see an athlete around
- 19:42Speaker 3: a non athlete that's in shape, they always are like
- 19:45Speaker 3: like they like squeeze their shoulders a little bit. They're like, okay,
- 19:48Speaker 3: I see, And then I'm like, so, what are you
- 19:50Speaker 3: really thinking about the rest of us? The ones that
- 19:53Speaker 3: you don't touch and the ones that you don't ask
- 19:55Speaker 3: what we.
- 19:56Speaker 5: Do for work out?
- 19:58Speaker 1: So that's interesting though.
- 19:59Speaker 4: When Sims left, you were at rock like kind of
- 20:01Speaker 4: rock bottom, thinking what what am I going to do
- 20:03Speaker 4: with it?
- 20:03Speaker 3: Not only the Sims lifts, you guys, but like my
- 20:06Speaker 3: producer Josh Fendrich, who now is a C suite at
- 20:09Speaker 3: overtime because he's like super high functioning, like incredible at
- 20:14Speaker 3: his job. He like six months later was like I'm
- 20:18Speaker 3: going to and I that's when I was like, and
- 20:21Speaker 3: then the pandemic hit, so it was just like I
- 20:24Speaker 3: got to figure this out. And and that's sort of
- 20:28Speaker 3: when I was like, let me just go all in
- 20:30Speaker 3: with TV and and really refine that as much as
- 20:33Speaker 3: I can. But yeah, man, it's that you know this,
- 20:36Speaker 3: there's doubt that comes in stages, Like I think once
- 20:40Speaker 3: you get to a certain level that you're not going
- 20:42Speaker 3: to have that anymore. But the real thing is is
- 20:45Speaker 3: if you can keep reinventing yourself or keep pushing into
- 20:49Speaker 3: a new if you just don't stop, you can outrun it.
- 20:52Speaker 5: But it definitely pops up all the time.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Right.
- 20:55Speaker 4: It chases you, right, the industry chases you. But if
- 20:58Speaker 4: you keep working hard, you'll find opportunities.
- 21:00Speaker 3: Oh dude, doing the French Open like like like preparing
- 21:05Speaker 3: for that and like watching Tennis channel every day and
- 21:08Speaker 3: being like if I say the wrong word, I'm going
- 21:11Speaker 3: to get destroyed. When I was doing baseball and they're
- 21:13Speaker 3: like just a reminder it's home plate.
- 21:15Speaker 5: Not home base, and I'm like, oh my god.
- 21:19Speaker 3: And so there's there's those little moments when you aren't
- 21:22Speaker 3: getting ready for a sport where you're like, this could
- 21:25Speaker 3: all fall apart.
- 21:26Speaker 4: When did you realize, though, that you didn't have to
- 21:28Speaker 4: be perfect even doing you know, even as a studio
- 21:30Speaker 4: host on TV, you have realized you've come to the
- 21:33Speaker 4: realization here, Adam, you don't have to be perfect. You
- 21:36Speaker 4: can have some fun. You can laugh a little bit.
- 21:37Speaker 4: It's okay, it's fine.
- 21:39Speaker 3: What I would say is when I realized that I
- 21:42Speaker 3: don't need to carry the show that people tune in
- 21:44Speaker 3: for the other people, it can free you up.
- 21:47Speaker 5: Some people it's you go, well what about you? And
- 21:50Speaker 5: I mean, I take pride, but my mom's watching for me,
- 21:53Speaker 5: and maybe Stu Goots is watching for me.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Yes, but everybody else wants to hear what these guys
- 21:57Speaker 3: have to say. So just get the ball to that.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Your job is to Your job is to take off
- 22:02Speaker 3: the plane and land the plane and in between, if
- 22:04Speaker 3: you don't say anything, you're actually doing an amazing job, right,
- 22:08Speaker 3: So that takes a lot of pressure off of it.
- 22:10Speaker 1: I tune in for Jared Greenberg and check him out
- 22:15Speaker 1: tonight The Sweet sixteen. It ten yus. He's your studio host.
- 22:19Speaker 1: He's fantastic. I love him. I'm happy for him, and
- 22:22Speaker 1: we appreciate your time. Sir.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Next time we have you on, I just want to
- 22:25Speaker 4: do twenty minutes on SIMS.
- 22:26Speaker 1: That's it.
- 22:27Speaker 4: Just twenty minutes SIMS stories, your top five SIMS stories.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Okay, I'll bring like different types of SIMS stories, disgusting, funny,
- 22:35Speaker 3: it'll be good.
- 22:35Speaker 5: Look.
- 22:35Speaker 1: I see him with the Super Bowl. He looks at me.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I look at him. I'm not sizing him up. He's
- 22:39Speaker 1: sizing me up.
- 22:41Speaker 4: And then he turns to me and he says, to
- 22:42Speaker 4: god's you get a comment on how good I fucking look?
- 22:44Speaker 1: And I'm like, what
