- 0:00Do you ever go on your phone for just a second to check something
- 0:03and then two hours later you realized, shit, I've been on my
- 0:07phone this entire time? Your phone and social media can
- 0:10be so addicting and I felt that so much recently to the point
- 0:15where I've been attracted to more of offline living.
- 0:18So I deleted all my social media apps on my phone and started
- 0:22doing some offline hobbies. And I don't miss my phone now.
- 0:25Like I still have it but I don't use it for doom scrolling
- 0:28anymore and I don't seem to be the only one.
- 0:30People are getting so tired of doom scrolling.
- 0:33It's like we've all had enough of bad news, comparison,
- 0:36overstimulation, and feeling like our life is happening
- 0:39through a screen. When I stopped scrolling, I was
- 0:42hoping that it would make me more productive, but I even more
- 0:45than that, I got peace. My mind got quieter, that
- 0:48constant background noise just faded.
- 0:50I started feeling more present, like I was actually in my life
- 0:54again. Small things felt good again,
- 0:56like walking, eating, conversations.
- 0:58And I felt more fulfilled, not because I was doing more, but
- 1:01because I was actually experiencing what I was doing.
- 1:04But here's the truth that most people get wrong.
- 1:06You can't just throw your phone in the bin.
- 1:08We need our phone for so many things nowadays.
- 1:11And you would get so bored that you probably just come back and
- 1:14then start all over again. You have to replace it with
- 1:16something that feels just as good.
- 1:18And that is what I've figured out.
- 1:20So I've written down some things that I've been replacing doom
- 1:23scrolling with. So the first thing is that I
- 1:26read physical books now. So currently I'm reading Women
- 1:29Living Deliciously and I love this book so much.
- 1:33Not just for the content, but you see it's so colorful as
- 1:36well. And I really miss holding a real
- 1:38book. For years I was just having my
- 1:41Kindle and again, it's a screen and I found it's awkward to you.
- 1:44I have to charge it and it just feels so good holding a physical
- 1:48book. So that's the first thing.
- 1:50Another great replacement for doom scrolling that is good,
- 1:54especially if you're just getting off social media and you
- 1:57still want a little bit of dopamine, is to start playing
- 2:00cozy games. This is such a mindful digital
- 2:04hobby. I've started doing it the last
- 2:05few months. I have Wildeflowers where you're
- 2:08a witch and you grow your plants and you talk to the locals and
- 2:13it's the storyline you you can get married.
- 2:16It's just a beautiful game and you have this relaxing music in
- 2:19the background. You go fishing.
- 2:21It's just so relaxing and I have not missed going on social media
- 2:26since doing this. Another good one is Hello Kitty
- 2:29Island Adventure. And on my iPhone I have if you
- 2:32like Sudoku, it's called Stitch. So it's Sudoku with relaxing
- 2:36music but in like this knitting format.
- 2:39So it looks like a knitted pattern when you're done and
- 2:42afterwards you don't feel this like your brain is fried
- 2:45afterwards, you actually go out and feel relaxed.
- 2:48So I found this a great way to detach from work and OK, I'm
- 2:52ready now to start my evening. I've also started to go to real
- 2:55life experiences. For example, on Saturday I took
- 2:59the train to London and I went to a sound healing in this
- 3:02beautiful spa in London called Sea Containers.
- 3:05So she had the crystal singing balls and the sound healing
- 3:08instruments and I just drifted off.
- 3:10It was lovely. And then me and my friend, we
- 3:12went to this Egyptian Pharaoh exhibition that is temporarily
- 3:17in London. And it was just so fascinating
- 3:20to see all these mummies and learn about this history.
- 3:23And then we sat outdoors at a Taco restaurant and had the best
- 3:28Mexican food. I love Mexican food so much,
- 3:30simple things, but I felt so alive.
- 3:33And it's moments like that that I will remember not scrolling a
- 3:37random shorts. Another good thing you can do is
- 3:39pick up an instrument. So for me, I've started a little
- 3:42bit piano, but my favorite instrument, it is actually just
- 3:45using my voice singing. So it's something I've always
- 3:47loved doing, but I've dived more deeper into that now, like
- 3:50learning how to actually improve my voice and singing my favorite
- 3:53songs. I've also bought a painting kit
- 3:56I want to try to paint. This is a new hobby for me.
- 3:59We'll see how it goes. But yeah, I'm feeling so alive
- 4:04and I'm actually addicted to this new life.
- 4:07Another little shift you can do when it comes to workouts.
- 4:10So I used to be working out at home with my laptop screen and I
- 4:14was looking at this workout video.
- 4:16What I've started doing is actually joining a gym, or you
- 4:19could join a spa, or you could join a spa with a gym and then
- 4:22go to physical classes or go swimming.
- 4:25And that way it becomes a tech detox.
- 4:28And this relaxing experience and exercise went from something I
- 4:32had to do to something I wanted to do.
- 4:35And this is when it hits me. My phone wasn't the problem, it
- 4:38was just the easiest option. Once I made my real life more
- 4:41enjoyable, scrolling naturally became less interesting.
- 4:44So if you feel stuck in the scroll, don't try to force
- 4:47discipline. Just ask yourself what would
- 4:49feel genuinely fun in real life and start there.
- 4:53Because the goal isn't to use your phone less, it's to enjoy
- 4:56your life more. And as a byproduct, you will use
- 4:59your phone less. And at some point, you might be
- 5:01where I am, completely addicted to my life without my phone.
- 5:05And let's inspire each other by putting down your favorite
- 5:09offline activity, your offline hobby that you just love in the
- 5:13comments below so we can all find some new offline hobbies.
- 5:17Love you so much and see you in the next video.
