- 0:23Speaker 1: Musing incidents to put donating in the pan to the depot.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Music of the family.
- 1:56Speaker 3: All right, that's what we're looking at this beautiful Wednesday morning.
- 2:02Speaker 3: The sun is shining. Definitely pack the sunglasses before you
- 2:07Speaker 3: head out today. We're looking at sixty two degrees and
- 2:12Speaker 3: partly to mostly sunny.
- 2:14Speaker 4: It is.
- 2:15Speaker 3: I just love this time of year. Yes, the blackflies
- 2:21Speaker 3: are going to be coming soon. Yes, there are skunks,
- 2:29Speaker 3: and I say that because I'm pretty sure that there's
- 2:33Speaker 3: more than one skunk says in plural living under my house. Yes,
- 2:38Speaker 3: it is mud season. All of these things considered, I
- 2:44Speaker 3: still love this time of year. The sugar makers are
- 2:47Speaker 3: loving this weather. Tomorrow we're looking at fifty nine and
- 2:51Speaker 3: then we get a little little cool snap that is
- 2:54Speaker 3: coming into play for Friday. But don't panic, it's not
- 2:58Speaker 3: going to be around too long at daytime highs Friday.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Do you really want to know? Thirty seven A little
- 3:09Speaker 3: hard to believe, but that's what they're saying. Back to
- 3:12Speaker 3: the fifties on Saturday, backside of the weekend. On Sunday,
- 3:16Speaker 3: we're back into the thirties. And don't worry, though, we're
- 3:21Speaker 3: gonna be okay. Top of the morning to you. Mark
- 3:24Speaker 3: Tetrow is sitting right next to me. Good morning, buddy.
- 3:27Speaker 4: How are you? I I'm awesome, how are you doing?
- 3:30Speaker 3: I'm so glad to see you. I love your shirt
- 3:32Speaker 3: and love you. You are so well known and so
- 3:37Speaker 3: well appreciated and loved and everything. I saw you. What
- 3:42Speaker 3: Monday over at the Elks Lodge for the for the
- 3:46Speaker 3: Saint Patti's Breakfast with a Chamber of Commerce honoring Kim Bulldock.
- 3:49Speaker 3: What an event that was.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Oh yeah, she's awesome. It's always great to go to
- 3:53Speaker 4: that event honor of the people that have done so
- 3:56Speaker 4: much for the Yeah community.
- 3:58Speaker 3: I gotta tell you, I did not realize what an
- 4:04Speaker 3: awesome lady she was. I mean, I knew that there
- 4:06Speaker 3: was a level of awesomeness, but I didn't know how
- 4:09Speaker 3: high it was. I didn't realize how many things that
- 4:12Speaker 3: she has done and has done and is doing now
- 4:17Speaker 3: still in our community.
- 4:18Speaker 4: She certainly doesn't boast about it. She just does right,
- 4:21Speaker 4: you know, So she's power. Even if you wouldn't really
- 4:25Speaker 4: know all the things that she does. I know, I
- 4:28Speaker 4: know we've got a lot of people like that around
- 4:30Speaker 4: so many.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, and kudos to the to the chamber for
- 4:35Speaker 3: putting on that breakfast. They do it every year. Uh
- 4:40Speaker 3: G is saying good morning to you. Hasn't seen you
- 4:42Speaker 3: since his garage sale last fall. A lot of people
- 4:45Speaker 3: hoping on this morning, Mark Tatrow, bring it in the
- 4:50Speaker 3: bring it in the crowd this morning, buddy. I I
- 4:54Speaker 3: was trying to remember yesterday when I stopped by. Did
- 4:58Speaker 3: you tell me nineteen eighty five? Was was the year
- 5:01Speaker 3: that you, like officially unofficially took the wheel.
- 5:05Speaker 4: No. So I started in the industry in nineteen eighty six, okay,
- 5:11Speaker 4: And I was running a store in Randolf.
- 5:13Speaker 3: In Randolph kind.
- 5:14Speaker 4: Of evolved through the years and I went to work
- 5:17Speaker 4: for Ormsby's eventually, and nineteen ninety seven I bought the
- 5:22Speaker 4: company from them. Okay.
- 5:23Speaker 3: And what what has it been like what you you have?
- 5:29Speaker 3: And we chatted about this last time I was with you,
- 5:32Speaker 3: when we sat in your office. But you've got some
- 5:34Speaker 3: uh some really profound, humble beginnings.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I mean, like a lot of her monitors.
- 5:43Speaker 4: I grew up very very poor, yeah, and which with
- 5:49Speaker 4: a large family and gave me an appreciation for things
- 5:53Speaker 4: and and uh, you know what it's like to not
- 5:58Speaker 4: have so It's kind of part of the reason I
- 6:01Speaker 4: give back. Although my parents taught me that even though
- 6:04Speaker 4: you don't have much, you might have more than someone else.
- 6:07Speaker 4: So even when we had nothing, that was the attitude
- 6:09Speaker 4: we were raised with to help others with whatever way
- 6:13Speaker 4: you can. And so I was raised that way. Even
- 6:16Speaker 4: even like I said, we grew up. You know, it's
- 6:19Speaker 4: not great situation, sure, you know, and but you know
- 6:23Speaker 4: it was I learned life's lessons through that, so you know,
- 6:27Speaker 4: and it's you know, you never know somebody's backstories. So
- 6:31Speaker 4: many of Vermonors like that, sure, and with a large family,
- 6:36Speaker 4: learned a sense of community. And so exactly came to Barry.
- 6:39Speaker 4: I grew up in Walcott. When I came to Barry,
- 6:43Speaker 4: I was like, Wow, this has got the conveniences of
- 6:46Speaker 4: city with the with the small town attitude. Sure we
- 6:50Speaker 4: all know each other, we all love each other.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 6:52Speaker 4: I'll tell you That's part of the reason I wore
- 6:55Speaker 4: the shirt to Yeah, I gotta go get another one,
- 6:58Speaker 4: so you and I have to go over there because
- 7:00Speaker 4: I'm gonna wear the sucker out. Yeah, I wear it
- 7:03Speaker 4: a lot. And the thing is, you know, I see
- 7:09Speaker 4: like on Facebook, I belong to some of the community pages,
- 7:13Speaker 4: and it amazes me and warns my heart when somebody
- 7:17Speaker 4: asks for help, whether it's with advice or a meal,
- 7:22Speaker 4: or finding in a room or getting transportation. So many
- 7:26Speaker 4: people who don't have much themselves respond respond with such
- 7:33Speaker 4: love and with such help. You know, they want to
- 7:37Speaker 4: help each other. We hear a lot of bad stuff
- 7:40Speaker 4: said about Barry, and you get some people that get
- 7:43Speaker 4: on there and they make their little nasty comments and stuff.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Don't do that. They're asking for help. You know. If
- 7:48Speaker 4: you got a nasty comic, keep it to yourself. That's
- 7:50Speaker 4: not helping anybody. So this community, if you want to
- 7:55Speaker 4: talk about this community, it's beautiful. I don't know. And
- 8:00Speaker 4: I am involved in all the communities. I mean, I
- 8:03Speaker 4: serve us Vermont, and there was no community around that
- 8:09Speaker 4: comes together like Barry does. When we have the floods,
- 8:13Speaker 4: when we have situations need, when we have hunger, nobody
- 8:18Speaker 4: comes together like Barry does. People come out of the
- 8:22Speaker 4: woodwork to help people that they don't know because it's
- 8:26Speaker 4: a great place. And then if you want to talk
- 8:30Speaker 4: about what Barry looks like, that's my favorite thing to
- 8:33Speaker 4: do in Barry. Drive around and look up, Look up,
- 8:38Speaker 4: what do you see? See? Beautiful architecture, beautiful, Yeah, you
- 8:43Speaker 4: see great craftsmanship. I mean the dental work and craftsmanship
- 8:48Speaker 4: and the top of these buildings is phenomenal. And we
- 8:51Speaker 4: just drive around looking straight forward and we don't see that.
- 8:55Speaker 4: And I started looking at that back when when I
- 8:59Speaker 4: first came here work Oramsby's. We did the big satellite
- 9:03Speaker 4: dishes and stuff that we're on the roofs around here,
- 9:05Speaker 4: and you get up on top of the roof and
- 9:06Speaker 4: you get a different view of Barry and I love that. Yeah,
- 9:10Speaker 4: so we got to We've got a beautiful city. And
- 9:12Speaker 4: if you're knocking it down, you're not helping anybody. You're
- 9:15Speaker 4: not doing anybody in favors. Don't do that. This is
- 9:18Speaker 4: your home. Help make it a better home. Well, there
- 9:20Speaker 4: are things.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Wrong with there's keyboarding, pirates everywhere.
- 9:23Speaker 4: Every community has, you know, their pitfalls. Every community has,
- 9:27Speaker 4: you know, things that you can say bad stuff about.
- 9:30Speaker 4: There's drugs everywhere. You know, do things to help mitigate that. Yeah,
- 9:35Speaker 4: you know, I mean there's so many people that want
- 9:38Speaker 4: to do that and do do that. Give them kudos, Yeah,
- 9:41Speaker 4: celebrate all the kimballdocks of this community.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Yeah, and there are many.
- 9:45Speaker 4: There's so many. There's so many good people. I love
- 9:49Speaker 4: reading those chats and stuff on on the community pages
- 9:53Speaker 4: where these people come out. We don't we don't know them.
- 9:57Speaker 4: They don't know the people that they're offering to help.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's I gotta tell you, this is a
- 10:03Speaker 3: fantastic message and one that should be relayed every day.
- 10:10Speaker 3: With that said, come on, buddy, you gotta admit and
- 10:15Speaker 3: I'm just having fun here with you. The potholes are
- 10:19Speaker 3: Are they the worst that you've ever remembered in your
- 10:23Speaker 3: in your life? And I'm not just talking about Barrier,
- 10:25Speaker 3: I'm just talking about it. I'm just having fun this morning,
- 10:28Speaker 3: just being like, holy crap. And the Frosty's.
- 10:33Speaker 4: The frost did a number this year because they had
- 10:35Speaker 4: those warm ups and the frost underneath and it did
- 10:38Speaker 4: a number. And then not to mention the fact that
- 10:40Speaker 4: remember looked down Main Street, right, sure, so when the
- 10:43Speaker 4: floods came, they undermine the roads. So yes, we're behind
- 10:49Speaker 4: on fantom coverts and stuff. It was a lot of
- 10:51Speaker 4: coulverts that were replaced. Yeah, we we just it's a
- 10:54Speaker 4: lot of infrastructure. It's gonna take time. Yeah, sure, and
- 10:57Speaker 4: get a full weell drive.
- 10:58Speaker 3: I do, And I was just going to say that,
- 11:02Speaker 3: you know, With that said, it's like you should be
- 11:06Speaker 3: paying attention anyways while you're driving, but you've got to
- 11:11Speaker 3: you've got to navigate around some of these holes. And
- 11:15Speaker 3: I don't I don't know when they're going to be filled.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Maybe when it gets a little warmer, and they've done
- 11:21Speaker 3: some patchwork up up on Upper Washington Street here. But man,
- 11:25Speaker 3: it's like you really need to pay attention, like you
- 11:28Speaker 3: need to be looking at the road and steering around
- 11:32Speaker 3: some of these things are huge.
- 11:35Speaker 4: You know, I like my speed just as much as anybody.
- 11:38Speaker 4: I buy powerful vehicles. I buy powerful snowmobiles and stuff.
- 11:42Speaker 4: But you're on a road going sure, fifteen miles an
- 11:46Speaker 4: hour over the speed limit. Yeah, isn't going to get
- 11:48Speaker 4: you there that much quicker? Yeah, right, not doing your
- 11:51Speaker 4: vehicle on your favors, sure, and it's not doing you know,
- 11:54Speaker 4: the people around you in your favors. Yeah, take it easy,
- 11:56Speaker 4: you know, I know. And while I'm talking about looking
- 11:59Speaker 4: up at the top of the buildings, do that from
- 12:01Speaker 4: the passenger seat, please, because when the sun comes out,
- 12:05Speaker 4: people can't drive. It's worse than an icy road. It's crazy.
- 12:11Speaker 3: So back to the days of of orm Spece. How
- 12:18Speaker 3: old were you when you started doing that?
- 12:21Speaker 4: Over and Randolph, I don't know how old I am now,
- 12:25Speaker 4: so I was nineteen eighty nine, okay, all right, so
- 12:30Speaker 4: it was in my twenties.
- 12:31Speaker 3: You you learned a very strong work ethic. Was it
- 12:38Speaker 3: from the ormspiece or was it from your parents?
- 12:45Speaker 4: I learned it at a necessity when I was young,
- 12:49Speaker 4: you know. It was just something you did to get by.
- 12:53Speaker 4: I mean when I was a kid, three brothers, and
- 12:58Speaker 4: we didn't live on a farm, and so I think
- 13:00Speaker 4: I might have told you this, that the farmers would
- 13:03Speaker 4: pull up in front of our house early in the
- 13:04Speaker 4: morning to be the first one to get there to
- 13:06Speaker 4: pick us up to go help them. And we made
- 13:10Speaker 4: more money doing other things than hanging and stuff like that.
- 13:13Speaker 4: But they needed to help. They needed it, so we
- 13:16Speaker 4: would go help them. And then the other things we
- 13:19Speaker 4: did were around that. So and it wasn't just awesome.
- 13:23Speaker 4: I mean, that's how the community worked, you know. I
- 13:27Speaker 4: mean I think back then you learned a strong work
- 13:30Speaker 4: ethic because you didn't get money unless you work for it,
- 13:35Speaker 4: you know. And I learned at a young age that
- 13:37Speaker 4: you know, I like the things that money could buy
- 13:39Speaker 4: for me that my parents couldn't, you know. So I
- 13:42Speaker 4: did a lot of a lot of work things I
- 13:45Speaker 4: learned from everybody though, all the way along and Orangeby's
- 13:50Speaker 4: you know, John Ormsby's work ethic was you know, right
- 13:53Speaker 4: on top of that. He was diligent. He worked hard
- 13:57Speaker 4: to get where he was and he could so and
- 14:00Speaker 4: you think that anybody.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Did he build that template for you? Is that is
- 14:05Speaker 3: that carried on to how you run business over at
- 14:08Speaker 3: Tatrus Appliance.
- 14:09Speaker 4: I still use some of his old his old sayings
- 14:11Speaker 4: that he used to throw out to us all the time, like, uh,
- 14:15Speaker 4: if you don't have time to do it right the
- 14:16Speaker 4: first time, when do you have time to do it?
- 14:21Speaker 4: So think about that, take a little extra time, do
- 14:25Speaker 4: it right this time. You don't have to go back
- 14:27Speaker 4: and redo it because if you're busy, which we're crazy busy. Yeah,
- 14:32Speaker 4: I throw that out to my staff all the time.
- 14:34Speaker 4: I got a great staff. All they all care about
- 14:36Speaker 4: the customers, they care about the job. I mean, you
- 14:38Speaker 4: saw when you came in the studio the other day,
- 14:41Speaker 4: you saw some baby toys on the floor there in
- 14:43Speaker 4: your camera. So when the girls need to bring their
- 14:47Speaker 4: kids to work and they don't have they bring their
- 14:50Speaker 4: kids to work. It's fine, you know, and love that.
- 14:53Speaker 4: We got a big place. We got two little boys
- 14:55Speaker 4: that are the same age, and they have become best
- 14:59Speaker 4: buddies because their mom bring them during vacation, they bring
- 15:02Speaker 4: them when you know, school's out for a day or whatever.
- 15:04Speaker 4: And those boys play together, you know, and they're good kids.
- 15:07Speaker 4: They're quiet, they're not tearing a place up, you know, sure,
- 15:10Speaker 4: and they and all those kids come in, give me
- 15:12Speaker 4: a hug when they come in, you know. So they've
- 15:14Speaker 4: become part of my world too, you know. Yeah, And
- 15:17Speaker 4: so they all bring their their kids.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Uh.
- 15:20Speaker 4: I had one time one of the a couple of
- 15:22Speaker 4: the kids that one of the girls daughters and one
- 15:25Speaker 4: of the boys came up to me and said, can
- 15:27Speaker 4: you play hide and seek with us? Because the building
- 15:29Speaker 4: is huge and they want to play hide and seek.
- 15:32Speaker 4: I wish I had time to do that at that time,
- 15:34Speaker 4: but I didn't. So, but yeah, they become part of
- 15:37Speaker 4: the company.
- 15:39Speaker 3: When you walk through those those stores like I did yesterday,
- 15:43Speaker 3: you're going to see real life right away instantly, and
- 15:47Speaker 3: it's it's just a. It's it's a welcome environment and
- 15:51Speaker 3: I like that. I like that when you walk through
- 15:53Speaker 3: those stores.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, my employees make comments all the time
- 15:58Speaker 4: about everyone coming in saying, I'm a friend of Marks.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Yeah right, and we have over one hundred thousands what's
- 16:08Speaker 3: that gay?
- 16:09Speaker 4: So we have over one hundred thousand customers, And so
- 16:13Speaker 4: their joke is that I have over one hundred thousand
- 16:15Speaker 4: best friends, and I do. You know, we try and
- 16:18Speaker 4: we try to make them all feel like they're part
- 16:19Speaker 4: of the business. Sure, and in some way they've all
- 16:22Speaker 4: put some sort of input in and none of them
- 16:25Speaker 4: mind telling me, you know, when something needs to be
- 16:29Speaker 4: you know, addressed, Sure, and you know. So so it's fun. Yeah,
- 16:34Speaker 4: I love talking to people. I wish I had time
- 16:36Speaker 4: to talk to every one of my customers all the
- 16:38Speaker 4: time because they're just you know, they become part of
- 16:41Speaker 4: my license. Sure. Nineteen eight nine, I've known somebody. Actually,
- 16:45Speaker 4: some of my customers followed me from Randolph Appliants nineteen
- 16:47Speaker 4: eighty six. I still am dealing with the same people,
- 16:50Speaker 4: their kids and their grandkids. And I'm getting old, so
- 16:54Speaker 4: next generation. Wow. So yeah, it's it's fun. But yeah,
- 17:02Speaker 4: there's another let's talk about that negativity. So I have
- 17:06Speaker 4: a lot of we have a lot of wonderful businesses,
- 17:08Speaker 4: and Barrie right, great businesses. You don't get into business
- 17:14Speaker 4: to take money from people. You get into business to
- 17:17Speaker 4: fuel your passion. So someone opened up small business around here,
- 17:22Speaker 4: it is their passion. They're putting their heart and soul
- 17:25Speaker 4: into it. Now, they might not do it just the
- 17:27Speaker 4: way you think they should do it. They're gonna make mistakes.
- 17:30Speaker 4: I do it even though I do it, so they're
- 17:33Speaker 4: gonna make mistakes. Talk to the owner. If you got
- 17:36Speaker 4: a real beef, don't go on to social media and
- 17:41Speaker 4: put a bad review and harm somebody's business that's putting
- 17:45Speaker 4: their heart and soul into it. Because I figured there's
- 17:48Speaker 4: three things you're doing on there for if you're doing
- 17:50Speaker 4: those things, One is you're saying, look at me, look
- 17:53Speaker 4: at me. You know you're a narcissist. Two ways are
- 17:57Speaker 4: trying to get something for nothing. You know that that
- 18:00Speaker 4: works sometimes in social media. Doesn't work with me. You'll
- 18:02Speaker 4: notice I never answered one of those bad reviews, got
- 18:04Speaker 4: over one hundred thousand customers and the phone rings off
- 18:07Speaker 4: the hook. I know I'm doing stuff right. I know
- 18:09Speaker 4: I'm doing stuff wrong too, but I work on those.
- 18:12Speaker 4: We have meetings all the time, so go talk to
- 18:14Speaker 4: the owner. And the other thing is you just being
- 18:18Speaker 4: a bully. That's your format to be a bully. So
- 18:22Speaker 4: I have friends who have businesses and they take that
- 18:25Speaker 4: to heart when they get one of those bad reviews,
- 18:27Speaker 4: and it sucks. It does because you know, it's like
- 18:31Speaker 4: somebody just stab you a little bit. But think about this.
- 18:34Speaker 4: You know, if you just won two hundred thousand dollars
- 18:38Speaker 4: and you lost one hundred dollar bill, and you spent
- 18:43Speaker 4: hours looking for that one hundred dollars bill, how much
- 18:45Speaker 4: of your time did that take up? Gener think maybe
- 18:50Speaker 4: I think the positive way. Maybe that one hundred dollars
- 18:52Speaker 4: bill blue into somebody's hands that really needed it, and
- 18:55Speaker 4: you help somebody else inadvertently. Think about the positive side
- 18:59Speaker 4: of it. So you can't let that half a percent
- 19:04Speaker 4: take up all your space in your head. And that's
- 19:07Speaker 4: what happens when people give a negative review. It takes
- 19:09Speaker 4: up you can't help. It's human nature. It takes up
- 19:11Speaker 4: too much space in your head.
- 19:14Speaker 3: You you just seem like one of these guys that
- 19:18Speaker 3: is you're so far beyond just Tatrus appliance. You're you're
- 19:24Speaker 3: you're one of these local business owners that as a person,
- 19:29Speaker 3: you are crafting your legacy every single day.
- 19:36Speaker 4: So Tatro's appliance is it's I love what we do.
- 19:42Speaker 4: I love it's fun when we're being somebody's hero, when
- 19:45Speaker 4: we fix our appliants that's broken down, when we remodel
- 19:48Speaker 4: our home and it's beautiful, they're you know, their kitchen
- 19:51Speaker 4: and it's beautiful. It's it's very gratifying. But it's a
- 19:55Speaker 4: vehicle that lets me do the things I really want
- 19:59Speaker 4: to do in the community. This community is a vehicle
- 20:03Speaker 4: that lets me do I don't do these things on myself,
- 20:06Speaker 4: on my own, excuse me. And I do them with
- 20:09Speaker 4: the help of all of you guys. You know, you
- 20:11Speaker 4: guys help us do all the things that are done
- 20:15Speaker 4: in the community. It's it everybody doing it together. Sometimes
- 20:20Speaker 4: you see a face that's out in front of that
- 20:24Speaker 4: and you think they're doing all that. It's it takes
- 20:27Speaker 4: a huge group of effort to do everything and make
- 20:30Speaker 4: it nice, you know, it's and there's so much of
- 20:34Speaker 4: that going on, and I'm just happy to be a
- 20:36Speaker 4: part of that.
- 20:37Speaker 3: How many civic organizations uh service organizations are you connected with?
- 20:44Speaker 3: Are you a member of or involved with? Which is
- 20:47Speaker 3: I can't even imagine, and I want to I want
- 20:51Speaker 3: to hear about the inception of of how how how
- 20:53Speaker 3: you got involved with the Lions Club.
- 20:56Speaker 4: So I'm I'm a Mason and I'm in the Allions,
- 21:01Speaker 4: and you know, I belong to a lot of the
- 21:03Speaker 4: other clubs around. Most people know that the Lions is
- 21:06Speaker 4: a huge part of my life because it's it's been
- 21:10Speaker 4: so much fun to be involved and do things with
- 21:14Speaker 4: the community. I mean, we always say if it ain't fun,
- 21:18Speaker 4: we don't do it, you know. And uh so we're
- 21:21Speaker 4: helping a lot of people. We're having fun doing it,
- 21:24Speaker 4: you know. And uh so we have we're doing a
- 21:27Speaker 4: couple of barbecues coming up at albashon hardware. We're doing
- 21:30Speaker 4: one April fourth, I believe, and then we're doing one
- 21:34Speaker 4: on Mother's Day, right and so and we're supporting as
- 21:41Speaker 4: at albashon uh there, April fourth ones they're grand reopening,
- 21:45Speaker 4: all right, and so they've invited us to cook hamburgers
- 21:49Speaker 4: and hot dogs. We did that last year. I have
- 21:52Speaker 4: a big grill that we use. Tim Cota gets on
- 21:56Speaker 4: there and a few of the guys and do some
- 21:59Speaker 4: awesome cooking.
- 22:00Speaker 3: I'm so surprised that you have a huge grill.
- 22:04Speaker 4: So so we do that. I bought that just for
- 22:07Speaker 4: the Lions Club actually, but yeah, so it's you know,
- 22:11Speaker 4: we have fun doing that. We've got the disc golf
- 22:14Speaker 4: tournament coming up June tenth. Yeah. Yeah. And speaking of
- 22:19Speaker 4: people being out in front, so uh, Mary on real coping.
- 22:24Speaker 4: A lot of people know her. We talked to her
- 22:26Speaker 4: last night about coming on your show and promoting the
- 22:29Speaker 4: disc golf tournament, and she was a little shy about
- 22:33Speaker 4: doing that, and I said, I said, you know what,
- 22:35Speaker 4: JD makes it easy to talk to people. I said,
- 22:39Speaker 4: but I'll come with you, court and you can feed
- 22:42Speaker 4: off of me, you know. And it's not everybody can
- 22:45Speaker 4: speak in public. But she's the one doing the work.
- 22:48Speaker 4: Her and Nicole and Linda and a few others are
- 22:50Speaker 4: doing the work, you know, so she should be here,
- 22:54Speaker 4: you know, showing up. But she's a little shy. So
- 22:56Speaker 4: we'll get her. We'll get in here and get her
- 22:57Speaker 4: doing that. And I told her, I said, I'll say
- 22:59Speaker 4: something wrong, so you have to correct me and talk
- 23:02Speaker 4: her up within seconds. All right.
- 23:05Speaker 3: So, so where is that that golf, that disc golf.
- 23:09Speaker 4: It's at the town Forest at the disc golf up there.
- 23:12Speaker 4: We do We've been doing that for a number of years.
- 23:15Speaker 4: Stacey Cataract started that. Stacey just moved to North Carolina
- 23:20Speaker 4: on us. So Mary Owen's taken over. Yeah, and yeah,
- 23:24Speaker 4: we love hers did a great job with us. We have, Uh,
- 23:27Speaker 4: we have eighteen teams I believe that play and we
- 23:31Speaker 4: have prizes for it and stuff, and if you want
- 23:33Speaker 4: to be a sponsor, we have sponsorship opportunities on that.
- 23:36Speaker 4: You know, it's well appreciated. These these clubs that come,
- 23:40Speaker 4: these these groups I should say that come to play.
- 23:43Speaker 4: They've got some really crazy names and and uh, they
- 23:47Speaker 4: just have so much fun and they all come over
- 23:50Speaker 4: and they support the businesses and they talk about, you know,
- 23:53Speaker 4: the businesses that have supported this that allow them to
- 23:57Speaker 4: have this tournament.
- 23:58Speaker 3: Look at look at these these these trendy do sports
- 24:05Speaker 3: that have just exploded. Pickleball, corn hole, disc golf. I
- 24:11Speaker 3: mean these are all like over the last decade plus, Uh,
- 24:16Speaker 3: they have really become super popular. Yeah, I mean there
- 24:20Speaker 3: it's almost like there's a cult following on some of these.
- 24:24Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 24:25Speaker 4: We all work hard we want a reason to play hard.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Yes, yes, So do you have all the fancy stuff
- 24:31Speaker 3: and the the disc golf sunglasses and attire and special
- 24:37Speaker 3: discs and the special footwear?
- 24:39Speaker 4: And I don't. I have I have a number of discs,
- 24:42Speaker 4: but I don't have the thing that looks like a
- 24:44Speaker 4: jukebox carrying around with me and stuff. My wife plays
- 24:47Speaker 4: with two discs and she's pretty good at we play.
- 24:52Speaker 4: You know, when we travel, we take a few discs
- 24:54Speaker 4: with us and play. It's fun.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Yeah, And let's talk about your wife for a second.
- 24:59Speaker 3: She is a huge supporter and huge fan. And you
- 25:03Speaker 3: have you guys have been married for how many years now?
- 25:06Speaker 4: Yeah? Thirty nine years? In May.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Wow, you just took off.
- 25:09Speaker 4: I think something wrong with that girl.
- 25:13Speaker 3: You guys just took off in and uh, I love
- 25:16Speaker 3: following you on social media because I see that you're
- 25:19Speaker 3: up in some cabin in the middle of god knows
- 25:22Speaker 3: where with a million feet of snow and you're you're
- 25:27Speaker 3: jumping in the sauna, I think, or the hot springs
- 25:30Speaker 3: or what springs? What the hell was that where.
- 25:32Speaker 4: We're We went to Yellowstone snowmobiling, and so we went
- 25:36Speaker 4: to Bozeman, Montana and We went to the hot springs
- 25:40Speaker 4: there and then you know, we went to the the
- 25:44Speaker 4: western ghost towns. There's a Virginia City, Nevada City. We
- 25:48Speaker 4: went to those, but we snowmobiled and Yellowstone and just
- 25:52Speaker 4: just an awesome experience. It's just a whole different world. Yeah. Yeah.
- 25:57Speaker 4: And so we're there and we and Bozeman, big city, right,
- 26:01Speaker 4: and it's snowing and there's three inches of snow in
- 26:05Speaker 4: the city on the roads. We saw plot tracks going around.
- 26:07Speaker 4: But they don't drop those plows until it gets over that.
- 26:09Speaker 4: They don't call school out for anything but black ice. Yes,
- 26:13Speaker 4: that's it. Those people are like and they don't plow
- 26:17Speaker 4: some of the roads, like in Yellowstone and West Yellowstone.
- 26:19Speaker 4: O're stand they don't plow those roads. They roll them. Yeah,
- 26:22Speaker 4: so you can snowmobile on the main roads. You can
- 26:24Speaker 4: snow the bill anywhere there pretty much. Wow. And so
- 26:28Speaker 4: were we were in the park for a couple of days.
- 26:30Speaker 4: We were out of the park for a couple of days.
- 26:32Speaker 4: We stopped at one intersection and you could drive a
- 26:35Speaker 4: tractor trailer on this trail. It's packed right, and there's
- 26:39Speaker 4: a stake in the middle of the intersection. Four and
- 26:41Speaker 4: a half feet of snow we're on top of them,
- 26:44Speaker 4: and yeah, yeah, that's something else.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Mode of transportation and mode of recreation. Both.
- 26:52Speaker 4: The funny power was so I have a bunch of
- 26:55Speaker 4: these long sleeved tees, right or one of the funny
- 26:57Speaker 4: things things. So I'm in this pub and it's called,
- 27:01Speaker 4: uh that's a huge Buyer restaurant, and they had this
- 27:05Speaker 4: thing called not Your Grandma's Bingo, and they just had
- 27:08Speaker 4: this sassy woman up there calling out bingo and stuff.
- 27:10Speaker 4: But I had a Parker Pie shirt on and this
- 27:14Speaker 4: girl comes over to me and she says, how do
- 27:16Speaker 4: you have a Parker Pie shirt on? And I was like, Oh,
- 27:19Speaker 4: we snowmobile Parker Pie quite often when we can. And
- 27:23Speaker 4: I said, and my friend owned the company that made
- 27:26Speaker 4: these shirts. And I said, and she says, I'm from
- 27:31Speaker 4: Burke and my uncle used to work at Parker.
- 27:33Speaker 3: Pye and we're postman.
- 27:36Speaker 4: Wearing West Yellowstone.
- 27:38Speaker 3: Wow man, small world.
- 27:41Speaker 4: Yeah, that's funny. Shee's fan.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Back to Lions Club. How long you've been a member
- 27:50Speaker 3: of the Lions Club and are you guys looking for
- 27:53Speaker 3: new members?
- 27:55Speaker 4: Always? Yeah, so I've been a member for twenty one
- 27:58Speaker 4: years and we we've recently been getting a lot of
- 28:04Speaker 4: new members and it's it's it's great because unfortunately we
- 28:09Speaker 4: were losing some key members through you know, them passing
- 28:12Speaker 4: away that you know, because we had a lot of
- 28:14Speaker 4: members even though they're older, still participating because it's fun,
- 28:18Speaker 4: you know, we have a good time doing it. Sure,
- 28:20Speaker 4: and so yeah, we're looking for and the misconception is
- 28:26Speaker 4: because it did used to be this way back one
- 28:28Speaker 4: hundred years ago, that it's a men's club. It is not.
- 28:31Speaker 4: We have plenty of women, and that it's a business
- 28:35Speaker 4: person's club. It is not. And we meet now on
- 28:39Speaker 4: the first and third Tuesday night at the Canadian Club.
- 28:43Speaker 4: In the first Tuesday of the month. We generally have
- 28:46Speaker 4: a speaker to inform us about something that's going on locally,
- 28:50Speaker 4: like I have lined up in May, I have our
- 28:54Speaker 4: April I have from a youth building coming to talk
- 28:57Speaker 4: because I work with them some and and so you know,
- 29:02Speaker 4: we have something like that every time we have a meal.
- 29:05Speaker 4: And then the third Tuesday, we is a business meeting
- 29:08Speaker 4: and we meet about who we're gonna give money to
- 29:10Speaker 4: and and you know what things we're gonna activities we're
- 29:13Speaker 4: gonna do and things like that, and and so you know,
- 29:17Speaker 4: we're definitely looking for all genres of people. Everybody. If
- 29:23Speaker 4: you want to help out in your community, you are
- 29:26Speaker 4: somebody we want.
- 29:28Speaker 3: You got a lady, uh, it's a member. I think
- 29:33Speaker 3: she's from the Philippines.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Yes, Bernette.
- 29:37Speaker 3: She kicks ass.
- 29:39Speaker 4: Oh dynamo, namo, she does that. Lady has done so
- 29:43Speaker 4: much stuff. She's like, spends so many hours volunteer work,
- 29:48Speaker 4: doing so many things. I mean, just I don't know
- 29:51Speaker 4: how she has time for it all.
- 29:53Speaker 3: Can we get her in here sometime? I would love
- 29:57Speaker 3: to go. She's gonna be retired.
- 29:59Speaker 4: She works at from Paramary and Motor Vehicles and she's
- 30:02Speaker 4: retiring in April. A thing really and so uh we
- 30:08Speaker 4: can you know she'll have some time to come.
- 30:10Speaker 3: In with regard to public service, she's an animal.
- 30:16Speaker 4: Yeah. So she she came here, she started and I
- 30:19Speaker 4: was king Lyon at the time. That's what we call
- 30:21Speaker 4: our president. And she came here to start a Filipino
- 30:27Speaker 4: American branch. Yeah, and so now it's a Asian. They've
- 30:32Speaker 4: gone beyond just Filipino. And because there's so many in
- 30:36Speaker 4: our community. Sure, I didn't realize it how many there
- 30:39Speaker 4: were until she came along, and so she's started that
- 30:43Speaker 4: branch within our club. Yes, and she just I mean,
- 30:47Speaker 4: you tell you about getting new members. I've gotten a
- 30:50Speaker 4: lot of new members over the years. She's gotten as
- 30:53Speaker 4: many new members and the blink of an eye and
- 30:56Speaker 4: I have in my whole lion's career.
- 30:59Speaker 3: God, that's something else. Yeah, just so friendly, it's so welcoming.
- 31:06Speaker 4: Her main focus is the unhoused. Yeah, you know, she
- 31:11Speaker 4: she does a lot for meals, for helping out with
- 31:14Speaker 4: their their needs, you know, their toiletries and socks and
- 31:19Speaker 4: all that kind of stuff. And then you know, setting
- 31:23Speaker 4: up the meals and clean they clean all the chairs
- 31:26Speaker 4: and stuff. In these churches that do the meals and stuff.
- 31:28Speaker 4: I mean, they just do so much a group, and
- 31:30Speaker 4: they are unbelievable just making it happen. Yeah. Yeah, and
- 31:36Speaker 4: she's quite married us too, so she makes she makes
- 31:38Speaker 4: everybody's elaborate uh, birthday cards and anniversary cards, and she's
- 31:43Speaker 4: just so thoughtful to everybody. And you're lucky to have her, Yeah, absolutely,
- 31:48Speaker 4: And we have we have a ton of people like
- 31:50Speaker 4: that where so you know, fortunate to be blessed with them.
- 31:54Speaker 4: And again they're all she's a blast. You know, spitfire. Yeah, last, guys,
- 32:00Speaker 4: have your your meetings Canadian Club.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Okay, and it's the first we now.
- 32:05Speaker 4: First Tuesday five thirty in the evening and the third
- 32:08Speaker 4: Tuesday five thirty in the evening.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Okay, wow, all at the Canadian Club.
- 32:14Speaker 4: Okay?
- 32:15Speaker 3: Good centralized location.
- 32:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it worked, It's worked well for us. So there
- 32:19Speaker 4: was a little break in that or kind of moving around,
- 32:25Speaker 4: and they've got some new management there and stuff. So
- 32:28Speaker 4: we've we've gone back and last few meals we've had
- 32:31Speaker 4: there have been awesome. Yeah.
- 32:32Speaker 3: Okay.
- 32:33Speaker 4: The guy that's doing the meals is great, fantastic, Yeah,
- 32:36Speaker 4: and they take care of us. It's a great club.
- 32:39Speaker 4: I belong to that club, you know.
- 32:41Speaker 3: It's it's how many other clubs are you?
- 32:43Speaker 4: Are you part of Moutois? If I think of all
- 32:48Speaker 4: the ones today, why do you want to get to
- 32:50Speaker 4: the tenement?
- 32:51Speaker 3: Why do you look so so good after being a
- 32:53Speaker 3: member of the Moutois. I mean if I was a
- 32:56Speaker 3: member over there, I would be six hundred pounds maybe more.
- 33:02Speaker 3: I mean, great food over them.
- 33:04Speaker 4: You're trying to lose the extra to put on this
- 33:07Speaker 4: ye got to got to keep active, that's uh. Yeah. Oh,
- 33:10Speaker 4: they have great food.
- 33:12Speaker 3: Great food there when I came up and chatted with
- 33:16Speaker 3: you up at your at your shop, uh, Morrison Road.
- 33:24Speaker 3: I the one of the biggest takeaways for me was
- 33:28Speaker 3: not only the quality and the product that Tetris Appliance sells,
- 33:33Speaker 3: which really kind of deceiving when you drive down you're like, oh,
- 33:36Speaker 3: this is a little storefront. Wrong. That building goes way
- 33:42Speaker 3: back and it's huge and branches off the product that
- 33:47Speaker 3: you have in there, whether it's a washing machine, a dryer,
- 33:50Speaker 3: a stove, convection stove, whatever it may be, dishwasher, top
- 33:56Speaker 3: quality stuff, and you're very picky about what you bring
- 34:02Speaker 3: in and what you sell. But one of the biggest
- 34:05Speaker 3: takeaways for me was not only quality, but service after
- 34:09Speaker 3: the sale, which is massive and I'm sure John Ormsby
- 34:15Speaker 3: has injected into your DNA just having the the the
- 34:25Speaker 3: mindset of making sure your customers are happy after the sale,
- 34:32Speaker 3: servicing what you sell.
- 34:34Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, so sales is kind of a service
- 34:37Speaker 4: that we offer. It's not our main game. Service is
- 34:40Speaker 4: our main game. Yeah, so you said that, when that's right.
- 34:43Speaker 4: I worked for Johnny and people used to say I
- 34:45Speaker 4: go to their homes to fix their product, and that
- 34:47Speaker 4: piece of junk. You boss on me? Well, John Oormesley
- 34:50Speaker 4: was a hell of a salesman, so if you bought
- 34:52Speaker 4: the lowest end thing that he had there, it wasn't
- 34:56Speaker 4: his fault. You chose that, and that those don't hold love.
- 35:00Speaker 4: I mean, I just talked to her friend yesterday. She
- 35:03Speaker 4: is on her third washing machine in five years from
- 35:07Speaker 4: the box stores, and she's like, can I come up
- 35:10Speaker 4: and get something to get a speed queen from you?
- 35:12Speaker 4: I said absolutely, so we am so I keep the
- 35:15Speaker 4: things that you know, everything can have a problem, that's
- 35:17Speaker 4: just the way it is today. I keep the things
- 35:20Speaker 4: that we know have better success.
- 35:23Speaker 1: You know.
- 35:23Speaker 4: I won't sell anybody's low end. I won't sell certain brands.
- 35:27Speaker 4: You know. It's just I tell people all the time.
- 35:30Speaker 4: It's one of my favorite comments when I'm talking to
- 35:32Speaker 4: customers is when I see you out at Hanneford's, I
- 35:36Speaker 4: want you to say I love my new appliance. I
- 35:39Speaker 4: don't want you throwing fruit at me across the aisle.
- 35:44Speaker 4: So I got to see.
- 35:45Speaker 3: All and how many times have you seen your customers
- 35:49Speaker 3: when you pin in line at Hanford's.
- 35:52Speaker 4: And I suck at names. I'm terrible at right, but
- 35:56Speaker 4: I can tell you, oh yeah, you have the action
- 36:00Speaker 4: range and the French door refrigerator. Yeah yeah, I mean yeah,
- 36:04Speaker 4: I can tell you what you've got in your in
- 36:06Speaker 4: your house. I can remember it that way, and they
- 36:08Speaker 4: don't always remember all one hundred thousand names, you know. Yeah.
- 36:12Speaker 3: But and you have a parts department that is absolutely insane.
- 36:16Speaker 3: You can come up there, you'll get the right part. Uh.
- 36:19Speaker 3: And if you want to, you know, d I y
- 36:23Speaker 3: kudos to you. But if you get into a snack,
- 36:27Speaker 3: you guys are are able.
- 36:28Speaker 4: To help out. We tell people out time. We sell
- 36:31Speaker 4: a lot of parts, and so we we have a
- 36:35Speaker 4: relationship with the largest distributor in the world. And for
- 36:39Speaker 4: the most part, it changed a little bit after COVID.
- 36:42Speaker 4: You know, we used to get we'd order at four
- 36:43Speaker 4: thirty and even though we get it next day, yeah,
- 36:46Speaker 4: and so now it's something we can't always promise that
- 36:50Speaker 4: because it's sometimes we'll look at the track and it's
- 36:52Speaker 4: still on a FedEx's truck running around, or ups is
- 36:55Speaker 4: struck running around interest, So we can't always promise next
- 36:58Speaker 4: day anymore. But if we don't have it, there have
- 37:00Speaker 4: a half million dollars worth of parts there. If we
- 37:02Speaker 4: don't have it there, We'll get it for you right off. Wow,
- 37:05Speaker 4: you can't always have everything. It's so many different things
- 37:07Speaker 4: out there. But we tell people, you know, I don't
- 37:10Speaker 4: know what your talents are. I don't and so man, woman,
- 37:14Speaker 4: young or old, I don't know what your talents are.
- 37:15Speaker 4: You may be more talented than me. Sure, So if
- 37:18Speaker 4: you want to buy the part, you do it yourself.
- 37:21Speaker 4: Go ahead. Yeah, if you get yourself over your head,
- 37:24Speaker 4: we'll come bail you out. Yep, we'll come fix me.
- 37:26Speaker 4: I gotta judge you, or I try to fix my own.
- 37:29Speaker 4: I just did it with my snowmobil the other day.
- 37:31Speaker 4: I was sticking to the door for two weeks trying
- 37:34Speaker 4: to fix my own snowmobile. I finally got to the
- 37:38Speaker 4: point where I was like, the winner's gonna be over,
- 37:40Speaker 4: and so I took it into the shop and said,
- 37:44Speaker 4: you guys fix it for me, please, Yes, and I
- 37:47Speaker 4: took it.
- 37:48Speaker 3: You are quite a mcgivory, though, I've heard that's.
- 37:51Speaker 4: How I learned the business. That's how I started. Yeah,
- 37:53Speaker 4: you know, if I got asked to do things like
- 37:57Speaker 4: show me how you tell me what it did before?
- 38:00Speaker 4: When he doesn't do all figure out how to fix it.
- 38:02Speaker 3: You also train your staff, your technicians very very well.
- 38:07Speaker 3: Are you looking for additional technicians?
- 38:11Speaker 4: Delivery always delivery, Yeah, we need we need another delivery guy.
- 38:16Speaker 4: We need technicians always. The girl you saw at the
- 38:20Speaker 4: front desk with h with the baby, she's cross training
- 38:25Speaker 4: to be a technician. Okay, she wants to be a
- 38:27Speaker 4: technician for her Yeah. So, and she she works on
- 38:30Speaker 4: her own car. Yeah, she loves that. Very mechanically inclined.
- 38:33Speaker 4: And she said, can I train to do that? Absolutely? Yeah,
- 38:37Speaker 4: you know, because it's a lot easier to get an
- 38:39Speaker 4: office person than it is a technician.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Sure, so cross training and uh so I'm going to
- 38:45Speaker 3: tell you, brother, you would not be able to cross
- 38:47Speaker 3: train me. I am mechanically declined.
- 38:51Speaker 4: Well, we need customers, so not everybody needs literally daity.
- 38:57Speaker 4: We have people that don't change their own light bulbs, appliances.
- 39:01Speaker 3: Interesting and oh my god, it's not working.
- 39:05Speaker 4: They just they got a number and they pick it
- 39:07Speaker 4: up and call it. I got this, I got that.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:10Speaker 4: Some people they just you know, we have a lot
- 39:12Speaker 4: of second homes and Vermont on the second homes, sure,
- 39:15Speaker 4: and they're only up here for a short period of
- 39:17Speaker 4: time and they want to be checking out the voids.
- 39:20Speaker 4: They want to be skiing, they want to be out
- 39:21Speaker 4: at the lake. They don't want to be tearing the
- 39:23Speaker 4: practice of appliance and fixing and stuff. But they want
- 39:26Speaker 4: you there while you're there, there or before. So you know,
- 39:29Speaker 4: we get those calls and we take care of those
- 39:31Speaker 4: people all the time as much as we can.
- 39:33Speaker 3: You also not only train your staff well, but you
- 39:37Speaker 3: also keep them very up on the latest technology. And
- 39:43Speaker 3: this this industry of appliances is changing rapidly, very rapidly.
- 39:49Speaker 3: And man, it's like it's it's it's a lot more
- 39:54Speaker 3: than just a little song that the washing machine plays
- 39:59Speaker 3: when when it's done with its cycle. I mean, there's
- 40:02Speaker 3: some serious technology the computers.
- 40:04Speaker 4: As a matter of fact, we're right off here. We're
- 40:07Speaker 4: heading out to Texas for training.
- 40:09Speaker 3: See that you have to keep the edge sharp in
- 40:13Speaker 3: the business.
- 40:14Speaker 4: We deal with one hundred different manufacturers. Really, Yeah, there's
- 40:20Speaker 4: so many of them out there. I mean a lot
- 40:22Speaker 4: of people around here haven't heard of La Conch and Lackcornew.
- 40:26Speaker 4: We do those We're the only for those companies. We're
- 40:29Speaker 4: the only non company employed company that does service for
- 40:34Speaker 4: them because we just don't have it in New England
- 40:36Speaker 4: and we travel all over the place for these companies.
- 40:38Speaker 4: Now their ranges start out from sixteen thousand dollars a
- 40:42Speaker 4: piece to one hundred and sixty five thousand dollars a piece.
- 40:45Speaker 4: You need to know what you're doing, you know. So,
- 40:49Speaker 4: and we deal with so many aga, you know, we
- 40:52Speaker 4: do it. Of course, we deal with all the brands
- 40:55Speaker 4: that we can afford, you know, as normal people can afford,
- 40:59Speaker 4: you know, So we deal with that is there are
- 41:02Speaker 4: bread and butter most of what we do. But we
- 41:04Speaker 4: specialize in those subserve wolf decor all those fancy professional
- 41:10Speaker 4: series they call them brands.
- 41:12Speaker 3: I don't know what it's called. Maybe it's convection, I
- 41:17Speaker 3: don't know. But when I was with you up at
- 41:19Speaker 3: the at the shop one day, you were showing me
- 41:23Speaker 3: a glass uh stove top that was beyond what we
- 41:32Speaker 3: what we know of as the glass stovetop that just
- 41:35Speaker 3: heats up and gets red and gets hot. So it
- 41:38Speaker 3: is beyond that, and I was fascinated, what's the deal
- 41:40Speaker 3: with that?
- 41:40Speaker 4: So that's induction. So induction has been around for a
- 41:43Speaker 4: long long time. What did I say? Convection convections? And
- 41:46Speaker 4: that's all right, convections in the oven, so convections the
- 41:50Speaker 4: ultimate cooking in the oven, inductions the ultimate cooking on
- 41:53Speaker 4: the stove top. It's it's very responsive, there's no heat
- 41:57Speaker 4: down below. It cooks by being a magnetic field. And
- 42:03Speaker 4: and it's you know, it's just uh, everything that you
- 42:07Speaker 4: like about gas where it's responsive, but better, it's better
- 42:10Speaker 4: than that. It's it's faster heat, and it's more controllable.
- 42:14Speaker 3: Heat, more controllable heat. So if you're a you're a
- 42:17Speaker 3: hot shot chef, this is this is your thing.
- 42:22Speaker 4: Some of the some of the big restaurants now have
- 42:24Speaker 4: gone to induction hobbs in the restaurant and gotten rid
- 42:28Speaker 4: of the gas because you think about if you've got
- 42:32Speaker 4: several ranges going in your restaurant, think about the heat
- 42:36Speaker 4: in that restaurant, and they're you know, taking that away
- 42:41Speaker 4: by going to induction. And it's safer. You don't have
- 42:43Speaker 4: the burns, your kids, respond, your kids, your pets, whatever.
- 42:48Speaker 3: So and I think I remember you, you were like, Jad,
- 42:51Speaker 3: put your hand right here.
- 42:53Speaker 4: So so back in I used to work for a
- 42:56Speaker 4: distributor and we sold jen Air and jen Air was
- 42:58Speaker 4: one of the first ones I had it cartridges. They
- 43:01Speaker 4: were ungodly expensive. So that's why I didn't catch on
- 43:05Speaker 4: as much back then as it is now because the
- 43:07Speaker 4: technology is better and the prices come down. But the
- 43:11Speaker 4: demo that they would have me do was to put
- 43:15Speaker 4: one hundred dollars bill in between the pages. For a fact,
- 43:19Speaker 4: they could put it one dollar bill in there, but
- 43:21Speaker 4: did the one hundred dollars bill. You put it in
- 43:22Speaker 4: between the pan and the burner and you turn it on,
- 43:27Speaker 4: boil the water, cook your bake and whatever. A hundred
- 43:30Speaker 4: dollar bill didn't scorched. Put my hand next to the
- 43:34Speaker 4: burner and boil water. There's no heat coming out around it.
- 43:41Speaker 4: The only heat is at the food and the pan,
- 43:43Speaker 4: so you know, it's very safe. We saw a lot
- 43:45Speaker 4: of them too. And then you know, you have to
- 43:47Speaker 4: have the right size surface there. You have to have
- 43:49Speaker 4: the right pan to make it work or it won't work.
- 43:51Speaker 4: You picked the pan up and it shuts off, you
- 43:54Speaker 4: know it won't there's no heat there. So we saw
- 43:57Speaker 4: a lot to people who have children, who have people
- 44:01Speaker 4: with autism, people with the Alzheimer dementia, because if they
- 44:05Speaker 4: turn on that, you know, especially a lot of the
- 44:10Speaker 4: kids would I want to push buttons yeah, and push
- 44:13Speaker 4: the buttons is not coming on. No paint on there.
- 44:15Speaker 3: Wow.
- 44:16Speaker 4: So it's safe and it's and it's super good. I mean.
- 44:20Speaker 4: And because it doesn't cook things down, it makes you
- 44:23Speaker 4: into a better cook. Oh you know, it makes it
- 44:26Speaker 4: seem like. I've got a lady down the street here
- 44:28Speaker 4: that she bought one, and she had gotten a divorce
- 44:33Speaker 4: from her husband. They've got little kids, and and she
- 44:37Speaker 4: was telling me that. The kids said, Mommy, how come
- 44:41Speaker 4: daddy's eggs don't taste like yours?
- 44:48Speaker 3: That is so fascinating, man. I want to if you
- 44:51Speaker 3: guys ever run a demo on that, let me know
- 44:55Speaker 3: ahead of time.
- 44:56Speaker 4: We'll do that.
- 44:57Speaker 3: And I would love to come up there and stream
- 44:59Speaker 3: live and show people this thing.
- 45:01Speaker 4: I'd like to. One of my goals is to get
- 45:04Speaker 4: a live kitchen going in the store again. I used
- 45:07Speaker 4: to have one downtown and show it off like that.
- 45:11Speaker 4: Just so busy, we haven't had time to sure do that.
- 45:14Speaker 4: We do little remodels at a time up there, and
- 45:17Speaker 4: you know, in in her spare time. But yeah, so
- 45:21Speaker 4: I'll get that going. When I do, we'll okay.
- 45:24Speaker 3: I know that, well, I know we we're going to
- 45:28Speaker 3: give away this this mini beverage cooler here in just
- 45:32Speaker 3: a minute we've come. Oh my god, we got so
- 45:34Speaker 3: many people sign up for that to win that. But
- 45:36Speaker 3: I want to make sure because I know that I'm
- 45:39Speaker 3: going to be asked I was last time. Where exactly
- 45:45Speaker 3: can I find Tatros Appliances?
- 45:47Speaker 4: Okay, So we're on two seventy two Morrison Road, which
- 45:51Speaker 4: is at the tee of Morrison Road and Prospect Street.
- 45:56Speaker 4: So if you're coming up the hill from by Boo
- 46:00Speaker 4: with Brothers, yeah, off a Bridge Street turns into Morrison Road.
- 46:03Speaker 4: We're at the end on the left. If you turn
- 46:07Speaker 4: off a Prospect Street like you're going up past Barry Gardens. Yeah,
- 46:11Speaker 4: you turn left on the Morrison Road where the big
- 46:15Speaker 4: historic barn on the right. And for anybody's listen that
- 46:22Speaker 4: doesn't know what that place is, that is the location
- 46:25Speaker 4: where Barry got its name.
- 46:28Speaker 3: Please tell so and I know you've had this conversation
- 46:32Speaker 3: with Rex Thompson.
- 46:33Speaker 4: Yeah. So this this it used to be the Bondato
- 46:37Speaker 4: offices in their in their original distribution hub and and
- 46:41Speaker 4: so their offices were there. There's a granite plaque by
- 46:45Speaker 4: the front door that tells about this. So there were
- 46:48Speaker 4: two gentlemen. There were sixty nine people living in wilders
- 46:53Speaker 4: Burn at the time, which is what this place was called,
- 46:57Speaker 4: and they thought that was a little too wild sounding
- 47:00Speaker 4: to invite people to move to it, so they wanted
- 47:03Speaker 4: to change the name. So one gentleman was from Barry, Massachusetts,
- 47:07Speaker 4: and the other one was from Holding, Massachusetts. This Barron
- 47:11Speaker 4: was just built back in seventeen hundreds at that time,
- 47:15Speaker 4: and it had a brand new mahogany floor, and so
- 47:20Speaker 4: they decided that they were going to use that and
- 47:23Speaker 4: have a boxing match. The winner got to name it
- 47:26Speaker 4: what they wanted to name it. So obviously Sherman won
- 47:31Speaker 4: and it was named Barry. And this boxing mattress was
- 47:36Speaker 4: not a typical boxing I keep boxing gloves around and
- 47:39Speaker 4: stuff just to be qute t with it and stuff.
- 47:41Speaker 4: There was no boxing gloves. It was bare knuckle. I
- 47:44Speaker 4: had a rope between them. And there's a story about
- 47:48Speaker 4: the doctor that was on hand picking splinters out of
- 47:51Speaker 4: the loser's head from the floors. So it wasn't just exhibition.
- 47:57Speaker 4: These guys were going at it, I guess.
- 47:58Speaker 3: So Sherman got it. Yep, thus the name Barry, and
- 48:05Speaker 3: that took place right there in there your building. Yes, yeah,
- 48:11Speaker 3: right where your showroom is right now?
- 48:13Speaker 4: Correct?
- 48:14Speaker 3: Correct, It's amazing. Where's that mahogany floor?
- 48:19Speaker 4: It might be buried underneath. I don't know, NASA. Geez.
- 48:24Speaker 4: See the polls from the stanchion still exist. Bonds didn't
- 48:27Speaker 4: take those out. Wow, and so and the overhead storage
- 48:32Speaker 4: where they kept all their parts where I keep my
- 48:34Speaker 4: parts is still like a Haloff barn. And it's still
- 48:38Speaker 4: got the crane in there for the.
- 48:40Speaker 3: Hey, holy crap, it's pretty cool.
- 48:43Speaker 4: It's it's a it's a cool building. It's very cool.
- 48:45Speaker 4: And yeah, and Bonds did a nice job all the
- 48:48Speaker 4: remodel it took place in there. I've only done minor
- 48:50Speaker 4: stuff to it. Yeah, they did that, and Kevin beautiful
- 48:53Speaker 4: and there were like seventeen offices in there. Originally.
- 48:56Speaker 3: There was a comment that I read last night. I
- 48:59Speaker 3: can't remember remember exactly who said it. It may have
- 49:03Speaker 3: been Dave Horner, I'm not sure, but somebody commented that
- 49:09Speaker 3: or that that Tetrose has serviced a very old appliance
- 49:16Speaker 3: that was at a stove.
- 49:17Speaker 4: I think, yeah, it's a it's a Viking range. It's
- 49:21Speaker 4: gotten old. When we started helping them out, well, it
- 49:24Speaker 4: wasn't that old, but he's kept it, kept it going
- 49:26Speaker 4: for him for a long time. It's a professional series
- 49:28Speaker 4: Viking range, and Viking was the first company to make
- 49:33Speaker 4: professional series ranges for the home. And I've actually been
- 49:37Speaker 4: to their plant and they flew me out there. And
- 49:39Speaker 4: these guys own like the whole town, they own, to
- 49:41Speaker 4: speak easy, they own a hotel, and I mean they
- 49:44Speaker 4: roll out the red carpet for me and brought me
- 49:47Speaker 4: out here to meet with their engineers. And so I've
- 49:50Speaker 4: actually been out there. So and a lot of the
- 49:53Speaker 4: manufacturers will you know, bring me out to their places
- 49:58Speaker 4: and stuff and you know, show us the new product
- 50:02Speaker 4: and give us training. And most of them come here
- 50:05Speaker 4: twice a year to uh give us training. And so
- 50:11Speaker 4: but it changed a little bit with there's a lot
- 50:13Speaker 4: of webinars now because of COVID brought that about, and
- 50:17Speaker 4: so now we have you know, weekly webinars where we
- 50:20Speaker 4: used to just have spring and fall sessions. So now
- 50:24Speaker 4: it's gotten to be both. We have the spring and
- 50:25Speaker 4: fall sessions and the webinars. So because things are changing
- 50:29Speaker 4: so rapid, like you know, we get bulletins every day,
- 50:34Speaker 4: I bet you still needs to be addressed that needs
- 50:36Speaker 4: to be addressed. There's a recall here rework there, just
- 50:40Speaker 4: uh how to program your appliants so that you can
- 50:43Speaker 4: even use it to start with?
- 50:45Speaker 3: Sure, Now what's that uh that antique one that you
- 50:50Speaker 3: that you've got that you were like, JD come over here.
- 50:53Speaker 3: You got to see this. It was wood fired. Uh yeah,
- 50:56Speaker 3: I've got absolutely gorgeous apply it wood stove.
- 51:03Speaker 4: I love, I love my that's that's a glen wood
- 51:06Speaker 4: that was a show piece in a customer's home. Knew
- 51:11Speaker 4: her husband. He actually was the one who brought what's
- 51:14Speaker 4: called Auga ranges to Vermont, one of the one of
- 51:17Speaker 4: the two guys that brought it to Vermont. And they
- 51:19Speaker 4: had this big, beautiful Auga range that I had to
- 51:22Speaker 4: take out of her house when she sold it. And
- 51:24Speaker 4: these ranges have to be built in place, and yeah,
- 51:29Speaker 4: you don't you don't move them, and they have to
- 51:31Speaker 4: be built in place. And there's only three guys in
- 51:34Speaker 4: New England that can build these, and I'm fortunate to
- 51:37Speaker 4: be one of them. And so she had me come
- 51:39Speaker 4: take this apart and get it out of the house
- 51:42Speaker 4: where the new people didn't want to deal with that.
- 51:44Speaker 4: It was coal fired, damn. So a friend of mine
- 51:48Speaker 4: actually has it now at his camp. And but so
- 51:53Speaker 4: while we're working there and I'm redoing her kitchen and
- 51:56Speaker 4: putting the new range in cabinets and stuff, she has
- 51:59Speaker 4: this glen Wood ranged beautiful husband had re chromed and
- 52:05Speaker 4: it sat there for fifty years unused. And she gave
- 52:09Speaker 4: that to me to go on display at the fire.
- 52:14Speaker 4: And she gave me an old Singer sole machine, trail
- 52:17Speaker 4: sole machine in perfect condition.
- 52:19Speaker 3: Showed me that too, Yeah, because she.
- 52:21Speaker 4: She wanted that to be on display somewhere, still wanted
- 52:24Speaker 4: me to have that. So and all, I've got a
- 52:27Speaker 4: number of antiques that just combined. Look at them just
- 52:29Speaker 4: even if you're not buying planets, check them out. Yeah,
- 52:32Speaker 4: I love my antiques. They all come from original owners.
- 52:36Speaker 3: Jeez, how did you get that? I mean obviously it
- 52:40Speaker 3: taken apart, and but I mean even in pieces, that thing,
- 52:44Speaker 3: what's the weight on that I can't even imagine.
- 52:47Speaker 4: Yeah, so all together, that thing weighs pretty close to
- 52:51Speaker 4: two thousand pounds. So you're taking their private and sections
- 52:55Speaker 4: and many many pieces. I mean there's a lot of
- 52:58Speaker 4: every single piece comes down a lot of cast iron
- 53:00Speaker 4: in it. And so I had two of my guys
- 53:04Speaker 4: with me to take that apart.
- 53:07Speaker 3: Well, I mean back in those days, I took.
- 53:09Speaker 4: Out by myself.
- 53:11Speaker 3: That's crazy, man.
- 53:12Speaker 4: She was like, it took her and her her husband
- 53:15Speaker 4: and three of his friends. Took them all day long
- 53:20Speaker 4: to get that in the house. And I was there
- 53:24Speaker 4: for forty seven minutes because I knew how it came apart. Yeah, right, Yeah,
- 53:30Speaker 4: I grew up having to deal with stuff like that.
- 53:31Speaker 3: So, man, the the mistakes that could happen and result
- 53:36Speaker 3: in you losing a toe are It's just it's just basically,
- 53:42Speaker 3: I mean, back back in those days, I mean, people
- 53:45Speaker 3: used these stoves to not only heat their homes but
- 53:48Speaker 3: also do their their cooking. O baked bread and and
- 53:52Speaker 3: everything with those.
- 53:53Speaker 4: I have my wife's grandmother's home comfort with stove. She
- 53:58Speaker 4: used that till the day she couldn't they in our
- 54:00Speaker 4: home by yourself all year around and really summertime, and
- 54:04Speaker 4: you know, so they're cooking bread on it, right, raising
- 54:07Speaker 4: bread on it. I had still going on it. They
- 54:11Speaker 4: always had something going on. That thing had it going on.
- 54:13Speaker 4: It wasn't just for heat. Yeah, And that's how they lived,
- 54:16Speaker 4: and they knew more about cooking then we'll ever.
- 54:19Speaker 3: Know yeah, and oh sure, there's a real art to that.
- 54:25Speaker 3: It's amazing.
- 54:26Speaker 4: Man.
- 54:27Speaker 3: I gotta tell you, we're going to give this this
- 54:30Speaker 3: frigid air Mini beverage cooler away here in just a second.
- 54:33Speaker 3: But I gotta tell you, man. Last I checked, it
- 54:38Speaker 3: was like one hundred and forty three people that that
- 54:42Speaker 3: signed up to win this and all they had to
- 54:44Speaker 3: do was click like, post a comment thank you Tatrose,
- 54:48Speaker 3: and share it and it exploded. Amazing. I love stuff
- 54:54Speaker 3: like that, and I love I love not only the
- 54:57Speaker 3: fact that you're continued supporting spot of aired out, but
- 55:01Speaker 3: that when you say, hey, I'm coming in, I'm gonna
- 55:04Speaker 3: come on the air. I want to give something away.
- 55:06Speaker 3: You always do that. You always got something that you
- 55:10Speaker 3: want to give and not and.
- 55:12Speaker 4: Makes it fun, you know. It's uh. I use these.
- 55:15Speaker 4: I don't sell these. I use these for different silent auctions.
- 55:19Speaker 4: We did one for the libraries fundraiser at Christmas time.
- 55:24Speaker 4: They decorated up and put a little bear bear on it,
- 55:28Speaker 4: lying on it for the Lions Club and we put
- 55:30Speaker 4: lights on it and stuff and some people bid on
- 55:32Speaker 4: it and it was a hit.
- 55:34Speaker 1: There.
- 55:34Speaker 3: I will I will make sure that it gets into
- 55:38Speaker 3: the hands of the winner. Should we give this thing
- 55:41Speaker 3: away right now?
- 55:42Speaker 4: Let's do that, all right?
- 55:43Speaker 3: I made this, this fun little wheel, put all of
- 55:48Speaker 3: the names in there last night, just like I said
- 55:50Speaker 3: I would. I had a couple of cups of coffee
- 55:52Speaker 3: and I punched them all in there. So here it is.
- 55:55Speaker 3: I'm going to give it a spin, and this is
- 55:58Speaker 3: going to be our winner. You can see right on
- 56:00Speaker 3: your screen. And the winner of the Frigidaire Minni beverage
- 56:04Speaker 3: cooler from Tatris Appliance is going to Francine Belleville. Oh,
- 56:14Speaker 3: nice fran scene, you got it, nice job.
- 56:17Speaker 4: Nice congratulations. Enjoy that.
- 56:19Speaker 3: I will make sure that that she gets this.
- 56:23Speaker 1: Uh.
- 56:23Speaker 3: This this cool little cooler for the summer holds us
- 56:27Speaker 3: six cans.
- 56:29Speaker 4: Uh.
- 56:29Speaker 3: You can come up and grab one from from Tatress
- 56:32Speaker 3: Appliants anytime. And the the fridge that this was on
- 56:37Speaker 3: top of, UH is pretty slick too. What's the story
- 56:41Speaker 3: with that?
- 56:42Speaker 4: Oh? So that's that's UH from the fifties. It was
- 56:46Speaker 4: in perfect condition. And this gentleman from Brookfield bought a
- 56:52Speaker 4: new refrigerator and energy efficient refrigerator, and so we went
- 56:58Speaker 4: there to take you are making me get a new
- 57:01Speaker 4: energy or efficient refrigerator. I don't want to do it.
- 57:04Speaker 4: I'm like, so we can put this one in your
- 57:06Speaker 4: garage and you can use it for a beer fridge.
- 57:09Speaker 4: He goes, not, better take it away. They'll give me
- 57:11Speaker 4: a hard time about it. And so I said, well,
- 57:14Speaker 4: the good part is you'll save electricity with a new one.
- 57:18Speaker 4: So my electric bills fifty dollars a month. I said,
- 57:20Speaker 4: you're not gott to save anybody, right, So he gave
- 57:23Speaker 4: me the refrigerator, and then he goes and gets the
- 57:26Speaker 4: warranty card for this thing. He still had the warranty
- 57:29Speaker 4: pamphlet and it said phone number Brookfield HR nine on it. Yeah.
- 57:36Speaker 4: So Jeff Perkins east Bury Otto, he does a He
- 57:42Speaker 4: has some antique refrigerators he collects too, and he had
- 57:45Speaker 4: one he painted just it was awesome victory and he
- 57:49Speaker 4: painted it like Victory motorcycle callers and nice. So he
- 57:54Speaker 4: wanted a couple of my antique refrigerators, which I never
- 57:57Speaker 4: sell my antiques. And so finally one day when I
- 58:01Speaker 4: was moving, he was in there getting apart and I said,
- 58:06Speaker 4: all right, I'll let you pick out two of my
- 58:08Speaker 4: anti refrigerators if you'll paint that international Harvester for me,
- 58:12Speaker 4: I said, you do whatever you want because you're the artist,
- 58:16Speaker 4: and make it look as good as that victory refrigerator.
- 58:19Speaker 4: So he did the the International Harvester colors which is
- 58:23Speaker 4: the maroon and black, and so he did. And all
- 58:27Speaker 4: the auto manufacturers and stuff used to make appliances. It
- 58:32Speaker 4: wasn't you know, like you know, it was Fort fil Co,
- 58:34Speaker 4: General Motors, International Harvester, they made the refrigerators originally. Yeah,
- 58:41Speaker 4: and so and this one, this one is pretty much
- 58:44Speaker 4: what I had when we were growing up. Exteft Byrus
- 58:46Speaker 4: was like this ugly.
- 58:48Speaker 3: Teal green yeah right right, min mint green.
- 58:53Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, so so that's we had the same exact
- 58:57Speaker 4: refrigerator with with five kids, Mom and dad. Yeah, think
- 59:02Speaker 4: about how my refrigers three times a capacity of that
- 59:06Speaker 4: one just for the wife and I.
- 59:07Speaker 3: Now, yeah right, that's so cool. I love that. I
- 59:11Speaker 3: love that story.
- 59:12Speaker 4: But yeah, it's beautiful refrigerator.
- 59:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it's amazing that we can say that a refrigerator
- 59:19Speaker 3: is beautiful, but we can't. And you can come into
- 59:23Speaker 3: teachers anytime and have a have a gainer at this
- 59:26Speaker 3: beautiful Yeah, thank you for coming in here. Speaking of
- 59:32Speaker 3: speaking of antiques, what are you driving. You got an
- 59:36Speaker 3: antique car.
- 59:37Speaker 4: I got a nineteen seventy four gens and Heally and
- 59:42Speaker 4: it's been around Berry all its life. So there's been
- 59:44Speaker 4: a couple of other Berry owners that have had that,
- 59:48Speaker 4: and so I restored it, had it for a number
- 59:51Speaker 4: of years, drove it in the parayed once.
- 59:54Speaker 3: And overheat it has before in the parade heritage.
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: No, no, I don't think it's overheated then, but it's
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: uh yeah, it doesn't like I mean, I drove it
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: to Maine in construction one time. I headed to a
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: gun Quit and we got construction on the highway and
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: it got a little warm. Oh yeah, they didn't cool
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: as well as they do today. But no, it's it's
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: been a it's been a good car. And I put
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: as much of original stuff into it as I can
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: and what's available. Seventy four seventy four. Yeah, all right,
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: you're gonna sell it. I'm going to sell it. It's
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: too I'm too big for it. It's it's built like
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: most people are familiar with the MG or Triumph, so
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: it's kind of the shape of a convertible. Yeah, and
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: it's low to the ground. Yeah, And I'm a big guy.
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: It's a fun car, yeah, but just too big and
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: in the summertime when it's you know, decent weather out, yeah,
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: could be inconvertible. I'd rather be on the boat.
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: Yeah. Congratulations to Francine. She won the frigid Air Mini
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: beverage cooler from Tatro Suppliance. Thank you so much for
