- 0:03Well,
- 0:03it was a fun ride while it lasted.
- 0:05The magic is over.
- 0:07Where do we go from here?
- 0:08And how do I apply this to what's
- 0:10going on in CrossFit?
- 0:11Let's talk next.
- 0:24I love the chase and the hunt,
- 0:25and I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:27I always take what I want,
- 0:28and I always give it one hundred.
- 0:30Don't need a bank, no, I'm funded.
- 0:31Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:33I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:34Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:36Now wake up!
- 0:37It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:40Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:42friend to me.
- 0:43It's not working out,
- 0:44maybe it's the chemistry.
- 0:45It's time to break up so I can
- 0:47make a better me.
- 0:48E-M-M!
- 0:54it's lunch time what is going on everybody
- 0:58welcome to a federal holiday monday where
- 1:02i didn't have to work today um yeah
- 1:05i woke up this morning uh to a
- 1:07complete white out outside my house the
- 1:09wind whipping so hard uh it was shaking
- 1:12my house um i think our high right
- 1:15now is like
- 1:17ten fifteen maybe um it is absolutely
- 1:21insane here right now um with weather i
- 1:24just got a text from jamie because we're
- 1:26doing a show tonight so if you missed
- 1:29the sunday night show last night it's
- 1:30happening tonight um she is behind a
- 1:34hundred car pile up in michigan
- 1:38based on the weather.
- 1:39So hopefully she can make it back home
- 1:42in time for the show tonight,
- 1:43but it is just brutally cold.
- 1:46So it was nice.
- 1:47I got up, looked outside,
- 1:49saw the blizzard, climbed under a blanket,
- 1:51got some hot coffee,
- 1:53and then debriefed all of my bear stuff
- 1:57and just tried to detox from it all
- 1:59by hearing all the comments and commentary
- 2:02and all of that stuff just to kind
- 2:04of get over everything that happened.
- 2:08So the one thing I will tell you
- 2:10that was amazing is after last night,
- 2:13I didn't think I would sleep.
- 2:15But I took my third Z and out
- 2:18like a light I went and I literally
- 2:20slept the longest straight sleep I've had
- 2:24in months.
- 2:26I slept eight straight hours,
- 2:27which I have not done yet.
- 2:30it may be years and I did it
- 2:32all after taking my third C last night,
- 2:35sipped it while I was watching the post
- 2:37game out like a lad.
- 2:38I went, woke up this morning,
- 2:41refreshed and ready to go.
- 2:42Even though my favorite team in the world
- 2:44lost last night.
- 2:46And you can do the same thing by
- 2:47going to third C.com backslash Jazzy or
- 2:51use Jazzy at checkout as your promo code
- 2:54to get to a
- 2:59If you didn't watch the game last night,
- 3:01it was such a back and forth.
- 3:03It was crazy bear weather.
- 3:07Um, the bears were down.
- 3:10They were in the game the whole time.
- 3:11They didn't have to make the miraculous
- 3:13comeback this time.
- 3:15Um,
- 3:15but they were down and they had fourth
- 3:17down from like the.
- 3:18Fourteen yard line.
- 3:20Caleb.
- 3:22Went backwards.
- 3:24I was like, our season is over.
- 3:25I literally thought it was over.
- 3:27He turned and ran the opposite direction.
- 3:31Um,
- 3:32as a heavy rush came upon him and
- 3:34then he turned.
- 3:37And Chuck,
- 3:37the most amazing pass I've ever seen in
- 3:41my fifty six years on this planet.
- 3:44And hit on a dime his tight end
- 3:48in the back corner of the end zone.
- 3:51On a dime.
- 3:52He he threw a fourteen yard touchdown
- 3:55pass.
- 3:57Forty five yards.
- 4:02What the hell?
- 4:04My heart rate,
- 4:06my heart rate was a hundred and eighty
- 4:09beats per minute.
- 4:10It had to be.
- 4:13And then we get to overtime.
- 4:14We get a three and out for the
- 4:16Rams immediately.
- 4:17And I'm like, here we go.
- 4:20My goodness.
- 4:21My bears are going to make it to
- 4:23the NFC championship game.
- 4:27And then, unexplainably,
- 4:30the receiver and the quarterback were not
- 4:32on the right page.
- 4:34And the safety made the most amazing
- 4:36interception you've ever seen in your
- 4:37life.
- 4:39And there went the hopes of the Chicago
- 4:41Bears.
- 4:44So, typically,
- 4:46I would be devastated today.
- 4:49But I had no expectations going into this
- 4:51season.
- 4:52I had none.
- 4:53I thought they would get better with Ben
- 4:55Johnson.
- 4:56I thought they would get better with Caleb
- 4:58Williams.
- 4:59I thought it would get better.
- 5:01I didn't think they would make it this
- 5:03far.
- 5:05I didn't even,
- 5:06I wasn't even sure they would make the
- 5:07playoffs and then they make the playoffs.
- 5:10They win a playoff game.
- 5:11They do that by beating their arch rival
- 5:14of a hundred and six years,
- 5:17which was awesome.
- 5:20Um,
- 5:22And the future is bright.
- 5:25And I know nothing is guaranteed.
- 5:27I know the commanders made it to the
- 5:29NFC Championship last year and then shit
- 5:31the bed this year.
- 5:33But this is different.
- 5:34They had old talent on that team.
- 5:37The Chicago Bears have young talent.
- 5:39They need a better defense.
- 5:41They've got a good offense.
- 5:43Can they build on that and get a
- 5:45more consistent defense to help out?
- 5:48I think they can.
- 5:50We have free agency coming.
- 5:51I think athletes are going to want to
- 5:54come play with Caleb Williams.
- 5:56I think he is an attraction now,
- 5:58which the Bears have never, ever had.
- 6:02I envied those teams that had the
- 6:04quarterbacks that drew talent to the team
- 6:07because of them.
- 6:10And I'm hoping,
- 6:12I'm hoping that that happens for the
- 6:13Bears.
- 6:14I've never seen it happen because the
- 6:17Bears have never had a quarterback like
- 6:18this.
- 6:19Never, ever, ever.
- 6:21And the fact that they do is hopeful.
- 6:27And now next year,
- 6:28they're going to have the expectations.
- 6:30So where do you go when you're playing
- 6:32a season with no expectations and you
- 6:35outshoot your coverage by a mile?
- 6:39And now next year,
- 6:40you're playing a first place schedule.
- 6:42You've got all these expectations.
- 6:44And where do you go from here?
- 6:52CrossFit says, preseason,
- 6:54we literally heard bears are bad because
- 6:56Caleb might be gay.
- 6:58Now it's legit.
- 7:01Yeah, I don't think anybody said.
- 7:02Nobody's talking about his painted nails
- 7:04at this point.
- 7:06Nobody.
- 7:09This doesn't hurt like double doink,
- 7:11I'm guessing.
- 7:12Not even close.
- 7:13Double doink,
- 7:14I thought that we had a legit shot
- 7:17to go to the Super Bowl that year.
- 7:20I had high expectations going into that
- 7:22year.
- 7:24This was just crazy.
- 7:29It's all Ken's fault.
- 7:30Sorry I texted you.
- 7:32I jinxed it.
- 7:33As soon as I texted you, they're destined.
- 7:36It all turned.
- 7:37Yeah.
- 7:38You weren't the only one that texted me,
- 7:39just so you know.
- 7:48It's crazy to look back at Caleb's
- 7:49discourse.
- 7:50It is.
- 7:50And he still gets hammered for everything.
- 7:53Like he still gets hammered for not being
- 7:55accurate.
- 7:56He still gets hammered for all these
- 7:58things when other quarterbacks are just as
- 8:00inaccurate as he is.
- 8:01Josh Allen played like shit yesterday and
- 8:04you don't hear anything about his accuracy
- 8:06concerns, right?
- 8:08Matt Stafford completed less than fifty
- 8:10percent of his passes yesterday in the
- 8:12same game.
- 8:13And nobody's talking about Matt Stafford's
- 8:15inaccuracies.
- 8:17Yet with Caleb and he had,
- 8:20it was no less than eight drops in
- 8:22that game yesterday that he put right on
- 8:24the money and his receivers let him down.
- 8:28One of them would have been a touchdown
- 8:31and it would have changed the trajectory
- 8:32of that game completely.
- 8:37Yeah, you can feel better.
- 8:39I got a lot of texts last night
- 8:40when he hit that.
- 8:42insane past that I don't,
- 8:44I don't even know how to explain.
- 8:47I don't even know how to explain,
- 8:49but so this morning, like I could be,
- 8:51and I was watching one of the,
- 8:53my podcast from the Chicago bear area of
- 8:56things.
- 8:57And someone wrote in, you know,
- 8:59it's not a time to be sad that
- 9:02you lost.
- 9:02It's a time to be happy that you're
- 9:04here.
- 9:05And I think that that depicts exactly what
- 9:08this bear season has been.
- 9:11Um,
- 9:13I think that, like,
- 9:14nails it on the head.
- 9:16Now, next season,
- 9:17expectations are going to be raised,
- 9:19and it's going to be a lot more
- 9:21difficult.
- 9:22So, CrossFit,
- 9:26they kept calling pass with Stafford
- 9:27crazy.
- 9:29Yeah, they were running on the Bears.
- 9:31I don't know why.
- 9:32I don't know why they went to passing
- 9:36every single down with Stafford.
- 9:39Passes were sailing on both quarterbacks.
- 9:41It was cold.
- 9:43I am sure their grip was not great.
- 9:47So I don't know.
- 9:51With how many teams are firing and hiring,
- 9:53it's a good time to have Ben Johnson.
- 9:54It is so much.
- 9:56But what's crazy, CrossFat,
- 9:58is already this morning,
- 10:00our running backs coach is Eric Bien-Ami.
- 10:03The Chiefs are asking permission to
- 10:04interview him to be their new offensive
- 10:07coordinator.
- 10:08He was there a while ago.
- 10:10My guess is he probably goes right back
- 10:12to it.
- 10:16So we're probably going to lose a running
- 10:18back coach.
- 10:19And say what you will about Eric Bien-Ami,
- 10:22DeAndre Swift and Kyle Menungai were
- 10:25awesome this year.
- 10:30Am I still a Bears fan if they
- 10:31move to Indiana?
- 10:35Where they're proposing the site in
- 10:36Indiana is actually five minutes closer to
- 10:39the current Soldier Field than the
- 10:41proposed site in Arlington Heights.
- 10:44Is that right?
- 10:46Arlington Heights.
- 10:51In Chicago, in Illinois.
- 10:53It's that close to the border.
- 10:55But the tax difference is huge.
- 11:04Do you think Caleb's success makes it more
- 11:06likely they will consider trading Tyson?
- 11:08I don't think so.
- 11:09I think backup quarterbacks are too
- 11:13necessary in these days.
- 11:15And...
- 11:19And no, I don't think they will.
- 11:20Plus,
- 11:21Tyson had the option to not sign an
- 11:23extension and go on the open market.
- 11:26And Tyson said in his press conference,
- 11:28he wanted to spend time with Ben Johnson
- 11:31to learn how to play NFL quarterback
- 11:33better.
- 11:35I think Tyson is playing the long game,
- 11:37and he's learning while he's being a
- 11:40backup quarterback right now,
- 11:41making millions of dollars, by the way.
- 11:44And then once he learns that system,
- 11:48which Ben Johnson takes a little bit of
- 11:50this, a little bit of that,
- 11:51a little bit of this,
- 11:53it'll help him get a job later down
- 11:56the road and probably make more when he
- 12:00goes out for that job than he would
- 12:02right now.
- 12:04Um, so I,
- 12:05I think that he's going to play the
- 12:07long game.
- 12:16Uh, Chad,
- 12:17a new fee Collinsworth and literally cost
- 12:19the game, uh, before bears OT drive.
- 12:22He said, Oh yeah, all the pressure.
- 12:23And then you're thinking about throwing
- 12:25interception.
- 12:25That guy needs to be fired.
- 12:26Announcer curse.
- 12:28Yeah,
- 12:29I really am in a good place this
- 12:31morning.
- 12:32I think that we're in a good place.
- 12:34We'll see.
- 12:39I had Swift on my fantasy team all
- 12:41year.
- 12:42I did as well on one of my
- 12:44leagues.
- 12:50Arlington Heights is basically O'Hare.
- 12:52Yeah.
- 12:55Yeah.
- 12:58Tirico was great.
- 12:59Tirico is always great.
- 13:02His reaction to that pass that Caleb made
- 13:04was awesome.
- 13:05They've been planning on get up this
- 13:07morning and so good.
- 13:09So good.
- 13:11So that's where I am with the bears.
- 13:17And if you follow the show and you
- 13:19follow me, you know,
- 13:19like I am a diehard Bears fan.
- 13:23I've been one since I've been twelve years
- 13:24old.
- 13:26I'm now fifty six.
- 13:27So that's a long time to be invested
- 13:29in a team.
- 13:30So the way I'm going to kind of
- 13:32translate that or transition this to
- 13:34CrossFit is.
- 13:36I have not had a passion for an
- 13:39athlete in CrossFit like I have for my
- 13:41Chicago Bears since Rich Froning stopped
- 13:45being an individual.
- 13:48There may have been a brief moment where
- 13:50I was a huge Sarah fan in the
- 13:54fifteen sixteen year.
- 13:58But other than that,
- 13:59I I've never had a passion for an
- 14:03athlete like I have a passion for my
- 14:06Chicago Bears.
- 14:08And I wonder what is the,
- 14:10what is the reason behind that?
- 14:12And we've talked in past weeks about
- 14:14there's no heel to this.
- 14:16Everybody's super nice.
- 14:19And so like,
- 14:20and I've met a lot of these athletes
- 14:22now, how many, I,
- 14:25you can't be a fan of ten people,
- 14:28right?
- 14:28And have a passion for who you want
- 14:31to win.
- 14:32And because you're not as invested in any
- 14:35of these athletes as
- 14:37then the passion to go see them play
- 14:40or to go see them compete is reduced.
- 14:47So I wonder what needs to change in
- 14:53the ecosphere of CrossFit to actually make
- 14:58you care more about who wins and loses.
- 15:03Is there anybody in this chat that has
- 15:06an athlete that they completely,
- 15:09completely want to win an event or win
- 15:13a competition over everybody else?
- 15:16Because I don't.
- 15:20I think too many of them are really
- 15:21nice and I like a lot and I
- 15:23want them all to do well.
- 15:25And because of that,
- 15:25I have no passion for who wins or
- 15:29loses.
- 15:31Last night, I was dying with every throw,
- 15:34every run, all of those things.
- 15:40And I don't have that in CrossFit.
- 15:45Kenneth DeLapp and Ken Walter say Colton,
- 15:50the hog train.
- 15:54CrossFit,
- 15:54haven't had it since like the front end
- 15:56of Matt, maybe Cara.
- 15:59Yeah.
- 15:59It's about that time for me too.
- 16:01Like, and Matt,
- 16:03you had this up and coming kind of
- 16:04brash guy that nobody heard of going,
- 16:08going up against the goat, rich froning.
- 16:10That was like the last time I had
- 16:12like immense passion for wanting rich to
- 16:16win number four.
- 16:19And then when I met Sarah Signizar for
- 16:22the first time,
- 16:23she was so cool to the security staff
- 16:25that worked regionals that year.
- 16:28And I wanted her to win so bad
- 16:30over everybody else, everybody else.
- 16:34And, and then since that,
- 16:37so you're talking like twenty fifteen,
- 16:39twenty sixteen is the last time it's been
- 16:41ten years since I've given.
- 16:44Not not given a shit because I do
- 16:47like care that people do well and and
- 16:49stuff like that,
- 16:50but I've never had the passion for one
- 16:53individual to be the best.
- 17:00I find myself pulling for James the most.
- 17:03Yeah, Wayne,
- 17:03that kind of is exactly what I'm talking
- 17:05about.
- 17:05You pull for people.
- 17:07You want them to do well,
- 17:09but you don't live and die by every
- 17:11event.
- 17:18CrossFit, I woke up, my kids yelling,
- 17:20I don't even like the Bears.
- 17:25Chad and Newfie,
- 17:26I have people I want to lose.
- 17:29Yeah, I think we need more of that.
- 17:32The more you want people to lose,
- 17:34the more you want people to win.
- 17:39Right?
- 17:42So, Jay Birch,
- 17:44I see you would love to see Dallin
- 17:46win it.
- 17:47And I would say that same statement.
- 17:49I would love to see Dallin win it.
- 17:52But will you live and breathe by every
- 17:55event when he does well or does not
- 17:57do well in his pursuit of that
- 18:00championship?
- 18:04That's the question.
- 18:07That's the difference.
- 18:10And it may sound slight.
- 18:12It may sound small.
- 18:14But it is how much that passion changes
- 18:18how much you're willing to invest into
- 18:21this sport.
- 18:22Are you willing to go watch them live?
- 18:24Are you willing to become a volunteer to
- 18:28get to events?
- 18:29Are you willing to do all these things
- 18:31to support that one person that you love
- 18:37and want to win?
- 18:41Larry Young.
- 18:41I was like that with Sarah early.
- 18:43The Ricky, the year he came back.
- 18:45So I think I root for the underdog.
- 18:49Again,
- 18:49I think all of those are relevant points.
- 18:54And I root for the underdog a lot
- 18:55as well.
- 18:56But I've never been, again,
- 18:59after Rich and maybe Sarah,
- 19:01I have never been passionate about that
- 19:03underdog or that person.
- 19:15Frida says,
- 19:15I think it's because they keep themselves
- 19:17on the outside away from the community.
- 19:20You can say that,
- 19:21but if I watch NFL games,
- 19:22I've never met a single Chicago bear.
- 19:27There is no, I mean,
- 19:29they're attached to a city.
- 19:31Maybe that's what it is.
- 19:33Maybe it's they're attached to a city and
- 19:35a region of the country that gets behind
- 19:38them.
- 19:39And we don't,
- 19:40you see that passion in Europe when you
- 19:43go to like a European semifinal.
- 19:50Because you're connected to a country.
- 19:52There are so many little countries in
- 19:54Europe and everybody is attached to one
- 19:56that you maybe feel more of allegiance
- 19:59because of your country than you do to
- 20:01the athlete.
- 20:02And maybe that spurns into now I want
- 20:05the athlete to win.
- 20:07We don't have that like, hey,
- 20:08Ariel Lowen's from Texas and I am too.
- 20:11So I really want Ariel to win.
- 20:16We just don't have that here.
- 20:27I almost cried when Colton didn't make the
- 20:29games that one year.
- 20:30Okay, that's passion, Ken.
- 20:33That is exactly what I'm talking about.
- 20:38But I think you're the rare breed.
- 20:41You are the rare breed that does that.
- 20:46CrossFit,
- 20:47I remember yelling and exclaiming during
- 20:48regionals finishes.
- 20:50I agree.
- 20:51Regionals, semifinals,
- 20:53I think are way better than the games.
- 20:56But like the Rich Scott thing,
- 20:58that was real.
- 21:01And that's when I was big time rich,
- 21:03wanted rich to win with everything in my
- 21:07being.
- 21:08And the showdowns between those two were
- 21:11epic.
- 21:12Epic.
- 21:13But we're talking ten years ago.
- 21:22There was story there.
- 21:25Judy Reed, KDL, you were known.
- 21:27So Judy must have cried too when Colton
- 21:29didn't make the games.
- 21:31And that's the passion I'm trying to find.
- 21:34Where do we have it?
- 21:37And it sounds like in this chat,
- 21:38the only person that gets that kind of
- 21:40passion is Colton.
- 21:49Ken Walters,
- 21:49will the amount of Vindicate Colton shirts
- 21:51and hog scrub I have bought?
- 21:53I say yes,
- 21:53next to full pig and a teeny weenie.
- 21:56That's passion.
- 21:57If you're going to buy a pig and
- 21:58a teeny weenie,
- 22:00you have a lot of passion for that
- 22:01one individual athlete.
- 22:08Bring back the Invitational.
- 22:09I think we have.
- 22:11Just because it's not called that,
- 22:13Waterpalooza SoCal is pretty much that.
- 22:16Now,
- 22:17do I think they need to expand it
- 22:18maybe to like a three team or a
- 22:20four team and maybe split up the world
- 22:23a little bit more?
- 22:25Sure.
- 22:26But I do think that we've brought back
- 22:28that regional feel or the invitational
- 22:30feel with Wadapalooza SoCal.
- 22:33And that has become one of my favorite
- 22:34events that I look forward to during the
- 22:36season.
- 22:43A CrossFit says,
- 22:43I thought Ariel had that potential,
- 22:45but she kind of stepped back.
- 22:47Yeah,
- 22:49I think it's just the attitude around the
- 22:52sport and the way it's marketed.
- 22:56And maybe it's because CrossFit markets to
- 23:01the community that you don't want any
- 23:04divisiveness and maybe the passion and the
- 23:07rooting become divisive in their minds
- 23:09when I think it actually accentuates that.
- 23:13We've talked about this.
- 23:14I talked about this with Corey on the
- 23:15show.
- 23:16I had an arch rival in the gym
- 23:18that I wanted to beat every single day
- 23:19I went in there.
- 23:22And that's okay.
- 23:23It made us both better.
- 23:26It made us both better.
- 23:32The affiliate support of individual
- 23:34athletes drove a lot of that in the
- 23:35past.
- 23:35No more green machine in the crowd.
- 23:39That's a great point.
- 23:39Invictus brought the house.
- 23:41Here in the central region,
- 23:45when Christy was there,
- 23:47CrossFit Polaris was there behind her.
- 23:50When Rogue was here in Columbus,
- 23:52Christy was there and the whole gym was
- 23:54behind her.
- 23:56So there is probably something to,
- 23:59as regionals went away,
- 24:01we lost that linkage to the athletes we
- 24:04loved.
- 24:06But it also,
- 24:07the connection to the affiliate has gone
- 24:09away too.
- 24:10There are very few athletes now that are
- 24:13linked to a specific affiliate.
- 24:21Announcers were crazy.
- 24:22Fans went nuts.
- 24:24Yeah.
- 24:25I want Ariel to win because our values
- 24:28align and I think she motivates moms to
- 24:29train.
- 24:30I also think Dylan is a hoot.
- 24:33And that's great, Fergie,
- 24:35but are you telling me that, like,
- 24:38you live and breathe with every event in
- 24:40her pursuit of a championship?
- 24:45I'm comparing it to my passion for my
- 24:47Bears.
- 24:48Like, literally, I'm on the edge of my,
- 24:50literally up off my seat last night during
- 24:52that game.
- 24:54Like, every play mattered to me.
- 24:58I had to stop and take deep breaths.
- 25:01I was a complete wreck.
- 25:03Nobody in CrossFit does that to me.
- 25:11Jay Burch, yes.
- 25:11Josh Bridges would be that level for you.
- 25:14That is a perfect analogy.
- 25:16But he's no longer competing.
- 25:18So now you don't have that person that
- 25:20you root for like you did Josh.
- 25:25And I know you're out there paying the
- 25:26man every single day.
- 25:28And I know how you feel about Josh
- 25:30Bridges.
- 25:31So that is a perfect example.
- 25:37CrossFit says, Ken always had a teeny.
- 25:39Oh, never mind.
- 25:40Yeah.
- 25:42We don't need to talk about Ken's teeny.
- 25:45It all feels like canned ads from
- 25:46athletes.
- 25:48It does.
- 25:49It does.
- 25:50The only people changing that are Colton
- 25:53and Hopper.
- 25:55And Dallin, the trash talking is helping,
- 25:58but it's got to be more widespread.
- 26:01And I think we've lost it completely on
- 26:03the female side.
- 26:04There's one person that trash talks on the
- 26:06female side,
- 26:07and then she gets railed every time she
- 26:09says something,
- 26:10and that's Danielle Brandon.
- 26:11But I think there are people passionate
- 26:14about wanting her to win or passionate
- 26:17about wanting her to lose either way.
- 26:21She is the,
- 26:23she is the epitome of what it's,
- 26:26she's like the Dallas Cowboys of CrossFit.
- 26:30You either love her or you hate her.
- 26:33She is the only female athlete that
- 26:36engages that kind of passion and that kind
- 26:40of guttural reaction about everything she
- 26:43does.
- 26:50Jody,
- 26:50the shit talk from the boys in my
- 26:52old CrossFit gym was hilarious.
- 26:54Yeah.
- 26:57When I was at Shred CrossFit,
- 26:58the first gym I ever went to and
- 26:59was there for ten years,
- 27:01we shit talked every single day.
- 27:04Every single day.
- 27:10Tristan says,
- 27:11do you think it's because it's not new
- 27:12anymore that that plays in every comp is
- 27:15the same constant change to things
- 27:17irritating fans to a degree?
- 27:19Do you think people just don't care to
- 27:21get so invested?
- 27:24Okay, so here's my question to you,
- 27:26back to you, is when you watch football,
- 27:30do you care about the rules committee and
- 27:33what they talk about in the offseason?
- 27:35Or do you care about what your hometown
- 27:37team or the team that you root for
- 27:39is doing to prepare for the next season?
- 27:43And I would say it's the latter for
- 27:45most fans.
- 27:48And the NFL has been around for a
- 27:50hundred and six years.
- 27:52A hundred and six years.
- 27:55It's not getting old to anybody.
- 27:57They're hitting ratings highs left and
- 28:00right to this day because people care who
- 28:04wins and loses.
- 28:18Distance from affiliates and the season
- 28:20stories are so inconsistent year over
- 28:22year.
- 28:23Well,
- 28:23I think we had a long time where
- 28:24we didn't tell any stories.
- 28:27We didn't tell any stories about anything
- 28:31going on with the athletes at all.
- 28:41Jay Burchess are the O'Connells in Idaho
- 28:43now.
- 28:44I know they're out west.
- 28:45They bought a home out there.
- 28:48I don't know exactly where it's at.
- 28:58CrossFit says Ariel's values don't put
- 29:00butts in the seats.
- 29:01Fergie says Ariel's values put eyes on her
- 29:03social,
- 29:04and that's where the money is these days.
- 29:14Jody says,
- 29:15thank God you didn't knock your heart out
- 29:16of arrhythmia from that game.
- 29:18Yeah, it was a concern at one point,
- 29:21for sure.
- 29:27I was like that for Kara back when,
- 29:30yeah.
- 29:31I think if you're looking at like,
- 29:34fifteen and sixteen was the last time we
- 29:37had that guttural feeling for an athlete.
- 29:47Fergie says, Laura wears the black hat.
- 29:49That's all well and good,
- 29:50but she doesn't play in the season
- 29:51anymore.
- 29:59Corey's giving me a warning not to use.
- 30:02She gets railed.
- 30:04She gets a lot of news for that
- 30:05as well.
- 30:06True.
- 30:07Probably not the right choice of words.
- 30:12Jay Burch, true that.
- 30:13Love DBE and the Dallas Cowboys.
- 30:15See, you're one of those people.
- 30:26Lito,
- 30:26we're doing a CrossFit show tonight with
- 30:29Carolyn and maybe Jamie.
- 30:31And I'm going to talk about all that
- 30:32stuff tonight.
- 30:46There's so many comments.
- 30:52Tristan says,
- 30:52but those little changes in the passing of
- 30:54rules don't,
- 30:55don't drastically impact the season who
- 30:57competes, who gets seen.
- 31:00I think you're more invested as a coach
- 31:01because those affect you deeply.
- 31:07And I get affected by it because I'm
- 31:08media and I'm trying to follow it all,
- 31:10but I don't think it really matters to
- 31:13me as a,
- 31:13as a supporter of an athlete.
- 31:23Tristan says that would be like the NFL
- 31:25moving half the games overseas every other
- 31:27year.
- 31:28They've moved so many games overseas.
- 31:30So many games.
- 31:31That's a bad example, Tristan.
- 31:33They're like half the season.
- 31:35There's a game at nine thirty a.m.
- 31:37Eastern time, which would be what?
- 31:39Six thirty a.m.
- 31:40Pacific time in Europe every single week.
- 31:44If you're a fan of those teams,
- 31:45that's a.
- 31:47That's not when I watch football.
- 32:07CrossFit says,
- 32:07so before Greg canned the media team and
- 32:09changed the marketing.
- 32:10Yes.
- 32:12That's probably a perfect demarcation as
- 32:17to when the passion left.
- 32:19Stories stopped being told.
- 32:22we stopped caring about the athletes and
- 32:25we don't really root anymore.
- 32:41Tristan says, but I feel it too,
- 32:44what you're getting at.
- 32:46I would have an athlete I cheered for
- 32:48crazy if I wasn't a coach anymore.
- 32:51I wouldn't have an athlete.
- 32:52Right.
- 33:01Do those people tailgate over breakfast?
- 33:06There are fans that would tailgate at a
- 33:08nine thirty a.m.
- 33:09game.
- 33:12In Europe, it's not nine thirty, right?
- 33:13It's in the middle of the afternoon.
- 33:15But here in the States,
- 33:17I know people that go to the bars
- 33:19at nine thirty a.m.
- 33:20to watch their team.
- 33:27Fergie,
- 33:27the landscape has definitely changed from
- 33:29coaches as athletes to full time athletes
- 33:32with sponsors,
- 33:33and we kind of lost the soul of
- 33:34the sport in exchange for shilling for
- 33:36sponsors.
- 33:38I would.
- 33:40Here's my answer to that as well.
- 33:43Tons of every other sport has, I mean,
- 33:45my God,
- 33:46NASCAR has eight hundred logos on their
- 33:49fire suits, on their cars.
- 33:52Everybody shills for sponsors.
- 33:54Everybody's trying to make money.
- 33:56Everybody's trying to do it all.
- 33:58And they find a way to still maintain
- 34:02the connection with the fan base.
- 34:09This is it here.
- 34:10Athlete visibility is just so cautious.
- 34:12Everybody is afraid to show their true
- 34:15self and upset sponsors.
- 34:17That's where I think they're being given
- 34:20misguidance.
- 34:23Daniel Brandon has pissed off the world,
- 34:26and she probably has as many sponsors as
- 34:28any other athlete in the space.
- 34:30But nobody's learning from that.
- 34:33Colton got more sponsors when he looked in
- 34:35the camera and talked trash.
- 34:38and cursed out this person or cursed out
- 34:40that person.
- 34:42When Hopper and Dallin and Colton went
- 34:46head-to-head with Taylor for that
- 34:49quarterfinals or whatever it was a couple
- 34:51years ago,
- 34:53they let the world see them at a
- 34:56vulnerable time and did not care.
- 34:59And because of that,
- 35:00they all grew in popularity.
- 35:05Like Colton says,
- 35:06he's a pig farmer and he has more
- 35:08followers than the games champion because
- 35:12Colton is authentic.
- 35:14Colton doesn't care what you think.
- 35:16Colton isn't cautious about what he says.
- 35:20Danielle doesn't care.
- 35:22She may care what you say and she
- 35:24may respond to it,
- 35:25but she's going to say whatever she wants
- 35:27to say.
- 35:28And because of that,
- 35:30she has more followers than any of them.
- 35:34CrossFit says, Guy, Guy doesn't care.
- 35:36Guy's going to do whatever he wants to
- 35:38do.
- 35:39People can tell him your cardio sucks,
- 35:42your metabolic conditioning sucks,
- 35:44but you're going to lift a house,
- 35:46and he doesn't care.
- 35:47And he's taking all of his followers to
- 35:50the bank.
- 36:00Kenneth,
- 36:00I drove five hours one way to go
- 36:01watch Colton and Taylor duke it out a
- 36:03crash.
- 36:04Exactly.
- 36:05That's the stuff that's missing.
- 36:12I so hated when the NHL went to
- 36:13board ads and it was one on ice
- 36:18ad, then four,
- 36:19now some have six or more.
- 36:21Then it went to sponsor patches on Jersey.
- 36:24It keeps getting worse as time goes by.
- 36:26Well,
- 36:26join me in the scream at the clouds
- 36:29from your front porch, Ken,
- 36:30because that's all we're doing.
- 36:31That ain't going to change money rules.
- 36:35And the more ways they find to show
- 36:37ads, the more they're going to do it.
- 36:52But you just said gyms used to show
- 36:54up for athletes,
- 36:55mainly because they are also coaches.
- 36:57I never could become a fan of Matt
- 36:58because he trained in this basement.
- 37:00The culture is in the affiliate.
- 37:04You may not be able to cheer for
- 37:06Matt because of that.
- 37:07But back when they made content that
- 37:09included Matt and told his story about
- 37:12eating the chop suey for lunch every day
- 37:15and not caring about his diet and just
- 37:18going to local competitions to make a
- 37:20thousand dollars here,
- 37:21eight hundred dollars there.
- 37:23Everybody bought into that.
- 37:24And he had just as many fans at
- 37:26the games as Rich did because he was
- 37:29the anti-Rich guy.
- 37:32When the two of them went head-to-head,
- 37:33it was the climax of the popularity of
- 37:38the CrossFit Games, in my opinion,
- 37:40because you really cared which one of
- 37:42those two guys won.
- 37:44And it carried over a bit for me
- 37:46to Ben versus Matt because I wanted Ben
- 37:48to get his first win,
- 37:50and I didn't want Matt to win.
- 37:56But those stories were being told back
- 37:59then.
- 38:00They're not being told now.
- 38:06And I know that Guy legit asked someone
- 38:09to buy his bike,
- 38:09but I think that was a farce anyway.
- 38:25Ken Walters is responding to CrossFit.
- 38:27They all want more money.
- 38:28I get it.
- 38:29But the most recent NHL TV deals has
- 38:31them sitting just fine.
- 38:33Just fine ain't good enough for a big
- 38:34business.
- 38:36They want to maximize the amount of profit
- 38:38they can make on their advertising.
- 38:51I think Matt resonated to fans with those
- 38:55stirrings because a lot of members do the
- 38:57same thing but aren't as good as he
- 38:59was.
- 39:01And it gave hope to those people.
- 39:09Tia trained in her basement.
- 39:10I don't remember her being in an
- 39:11affiliate.
- 39:13Well,
- 39:13she was at Mayhem for a good chunk.
- 39:16And then she built her own.
- 39:20I don't know what she did before she
- 39:22came from Australia, though.
- 39:36Now look at the landscape.
- 39:37Tia's thriving with Proven.
- 39:38Matt is struggling with HWPO.
- 39:40Tia engages the audience and Matt does his
- 39:42own thing.
- 39:44You think the HWPO is struggling because
- 39:46you're looking at it from a games
- 39:47perspective and games athletes.
- 39:50HWPO is doing just fine with their
- 39:52programming,
- 39:53with all of the different facets and
- 39:55different sports that they reach out to.
- 39:57They are doing just fine.
- 40:08Corey said Matt resonated when he became
- 40:10unbeatable,
- 40:12but when he was becoming unbeatable,
- 40:13once he got there and had basically no
- 40:15weakness, it got boring.
- 40:19I don't disagree with that.
- 40:19I think anytime a team wins multiple
- 40:23championships in a row or an individual
- 40:25wins multiple championships in a row,
- 40:27it starts to disenfranchise some of the
- 40:30fans and they want to see somebody else
- 40:33win.
- 40:43so and vicky says that tia was at
- 40:49an affiliate in australia as well yeah i
- 40:59saw that this morning corey gail layman is
- 41:01posting on ig again i'm not retiring
- 41:13Clayton Wall,
- 41:14the connection to affiliates was never
- 41:15going to remain as the elite athletes
- 41:18increasingly focus on making competitive
- 41:20CrossFit career.
- 41:21Those are two worlds.
- 41:24Well,
- 41:24a couple other quick subjects and then I'm
- 41:26going to get out of here and prepare
- 41:28for tonight's show.
- 41:30The first thing is last week we talked
- 41:32about prize money in Mexico City and maybe
- 41:36being double taxed.
- 41:38I said that my nephew had been in
- 41:40Canada and got really messed up on taxes
- 41:43coming back to the States.
- 41:45I was corrected that there is a treaty
- 41:49between Canada, Mexico,
- 41:50and the United States not to double tax
- 41:53people in those states or in those
- 41:56countries.
- 41:57So if you win the money in Mexico
- 41:59City, you're only taxed once.
- 42:02Now, where that is,
- 42:03I am not a tax expert.
- 42:04I don't know.
- 42:06But you will only be taxed one time.
- 42:09other thing i wanted to share is this
- 42:11thing by becky harsh and i don't know
- 42:13if you guys have seen this uh but
- 42:15it was pretty funny and it is a
- 42:16warning about this year's crossfit game
- 42:17season have you or someone you loved been
- 42:18injured judging an open workout was it an
- 42:19athlete that doesn't adhere to movement
- 42:20standards throughout the year
- 42:39Don't hesitate.
- 42:41Contact your local CrossFit affiliate rep
- 42:43now.
- 42:44You are not alone.
- 42:52You may be entitled to compensation.
- 43:02Remember,
- 43:03the open is just around the corner.
- 43:04Take the judges course and warm up that
- 43:07rotator cuff.
- 43:10Thought that was pretty funny.
- 43:11Wanted to share with everybody.
- 43:14I love when he throws the wall ball
- 43:16ladder.
- 43:19So because I've actually had that happen
- 43:21in real life,
- 43:24a wall ball thrown at me for that.
- 43:26But I thought Becky did a great job
- 43:28with that and promoting the open.
- 43:30And if you didn't see dense update this
- 43:32morning,
- 43:33which she scared the crap out of me
- 43:34this morning when I woke up,
- 43:36looked at my phone and saw I was
- 43:37tagged in that.
- 43:38That always makes me nervous.
- 43:41But I did see that she bought the
- 43:43bundle where she got the judges course,
- 43:45the open registration and a T-shirt.
- 43:48all with a bundle and that is an
- 43:49option this year with this year's open so
- 43:52make sure to check that out um jay
- 43:56birch especially with wall balls uh been
- 43:58there yeah yeah i've i've had a wall
- 44:01ball or two chucked at me in my
- 44:02life so the last thing i'm going to
- 44:05leave with and this is just um when
- 44:08i was talking to caroline klutz and i
- 44:09had her on the show a little bit
- 44:11ago and she won the the to year
- 44:14old um
- 44:18She won the thirty five to thirty nine
- 44:19year old division of the CrossFit Games.
- 44:22And back then she told me kind of
- 44:25secretively that she was working with
- 44:27Mayhem to form a team.
- 44:30It came out today what that team is.
- 44:32And I just want to show you that
- 44:36video now because I was kind of surprised
- 44:40who it was.
- 44:42So with that, here we go.
- 44:50Thank you.
- 45:02so if you didn't recognize those faces
- 45:05that is introducing the team from crossfit
- 45:08mayhem is jack rozema caroline klutz
- 45:13tanner balazs and stevie dellinger and
- 45:16caroline and stevie actually took third at
- 45:18the games last year so that is significant
- 45:22and they're teaming up with jack rozema
- 45:24who apparently is going team
- 45:26and Tanner Balazs,
- 45:27who's been training with Alexis Raptus.
- 45:32So that, I think,
- 45:33is going to be a pretty formidable team
- 45:36going into this season.
- 45:41Yeah, Ken, you can see it here.
- 45:43They just announced it.
- 45:46That is the team.
- 45:51So...
- 45:53early sights into who's going to be
- 45:56competing.
- 45:57I don't know what the Norwegian crew are
- 46:00going to bring, but man,
- 46:02that's a pretty tough team.
- 46:04I would have to have them as podium
- 46:07favorite for sure.
- 46:08Maybe even champion.
- 46:14Hopefully he doesn't get stuck in teams.
- 46:17I know he's been busy with things with
- 46:20work and with children and all of those
- 46:23things.
- 46:24And maybe he just needs a year to
- 46:26work on weaknesses.
- 46:28I know some elite athletes feel that when
- 46:30they go team,
- 46:31because there's less pressure to do
- 46:33everything,
- 46:34that they can actually work on their
- 46:36weaknesses for a full season while going
- 46:38team and then be more prepared to make
- 46:41a shot the following year.
- 46:48Now,
- 46:49if there were only a way to make
- 46:50teams more watchable, I agree.
- 46:54I wish CrossFit would...
- 46:59look at what a blues of SoCal and
- 47:01kind of the way they are.
- 47:03Um,
- 47:05they are doing things to make the team
- 47:07setting more watchable and more enjoyable.
- 47:10I think they've done a good job with
- 47:11that.
- 47:12Um, but it would take some rule changes.
- 47:15And I know Tristan's against that, uh,
- 47:17to get it to look better,
- 47:19but with that,
- 47:22and it looks like the kale layman news
- 47:24is fake.
- 47:27So,
- 47:30With that,
- 47:34I hope you guys had a great day.
- 47:36It was a good discussion.
- 47:37Glad we had it.
- 47:39I will be back here tonight at eight
