- 0:00Alright, take it away, Josh. Take it away, Iron.
- 0:03Gonna be a bumpy ride. At this rate, it will be.
- 0:07Yeah, but about Bound Banger Management Fantasy hockey
- 0:12podcast. Woo woo woo.
- 0:17Fancy seeing you guys here? OK, welcome in everyone to
- 0:20Bangor Management, the fantasy hockey podcast with your three
- 0:23favorite hosts ever, Jake, Josh and Kevin.
- 0:26How y'all doing? I am doing.
- 0:30Great guys here. Episode let me put it this way.
- 0:36What have you done, Kevin, if Nick Suzuki and OK, just gonna
- 0:41cut it off there. But yeah, doing great.
- 0:43Excited to talk about the the signings we got.
- 0:46Exactly. Yeah, it is going to be the 14
- 0:50random number. I know 14 biggest offseason
- 0:53signings and their fantasy impact.
- 0:55Um, yeah. So essentially there's not many
- 0:58new ones. It was quite a boring free
- 1:00agency as Josh spoke about last week in our top trades of the
- 1:05off season, but still worth mentioning.
- 1:08And some of the teams are a little bit different now and
- 1:11follow the money, as Josh always says.
- 1:13So if those are big contracts, we could expect big things out
- 1:16of them this year. When you say as Josh always
- 1:18says, I think he said that for like the last two episodes only.
- 1:23My whole for saying that, yeah. Yeah exactly.
- 1:27Alright cool. So do you want to start us off
- 1:30with the first OHT? Before I forget, we are on
- 1:33TikTok now. Woo woo.
- 1:37Bangor management Fantasy hockey on TikTok Go drop us a follow.
- 1:41We're gonna try to upload five times a week, maybe more, maybe
- 1:45less. I don't know but.
- 1:46I expectation to. At least five there.
- 1:49Seriously, it's all on my plate, so I'm putting it out there,
- 1:52holding myself accountable. Nice when we cranked.
- 1:56OK, cool, so so we have a we have big shoes to fill.
- 2:00But anyway, so we're on TikTok now.
- 2:02Very exciting. Follow us Instagram, TikTok, all
- 2:04the socials and don't forget to follow Spotify or Apple podcast
- 2:07wherever you get your podcasts. Now, without further ado, Josh,
- 2:11take us away. All right, so we're gonna dive
- 2:14right into the signings. Like you said, it's the 14th
- 2:16biggest ones of the offseason. That is because I only found 14
- 2:20that were fantasy relevant. Of those 14, only four of them
- 2:25were to new teams and ten were resigning.
- 2:27So we're gonna start with the new team ones.
- 2:29So First off, we've got the Anaheim Ducks signed Michael
- 2:32Granlund to a 3 * 7 mil contract.
- 2:37I love this. I love this for them.
- 2:39I feel like Anaheim has forever been.
- 2:42By forever, I mean the same length of time as Josh has been
- 2:46saying Follow the Money has been a team that's very young with a
- 2:51lot of young talent that kind of lacks that veteran presence.
- 2:55I mean, last year they had Killorn, who I feel like it was
- 2:58one of those players. But now they're surrounding
- 3:00their other stars with Grantland and I guess we'll talk about
- 3:04assigning after. Yeah, Kryder.
- 3:06So I think I think it's great for them.
- 3:09I think it really balances the lineup.
- 3:10And I think Grantland is very underrated.
- 3:13I feel like when you went to Pittsburgh recently, he kind of
- 3:16lost some value in the eyes of other NHL teams, but then he
- 3:20bounced back and I think he's going to be a valuable asset to
- 3:23this Anaheim stock team. Totally agreed, very underrated
- 3:28player, always has been. He was a fan favorite in
- 3:31Minnesota. People tend to forget about that
- 3:33cuz it's been awhile but he was like their star.
- 3:35He's not a superstar by any means but he's a top tier of the
- 3:40middle of the pack players I would say.
- 3:41And honestly I think this is exactly what they need.
- 3:44They're pretty decent at centre depth if they decide to keep
- 3:48Mctavish, which is a question mark right now.
- 3:50Excited to follow that during the offseason.
- 3:53Yeah, exactly. Though the veteran presence is
- 3:55massive, as you mentioned, and he can slot on that wing.
- 3:59Perhaps Crowder, Mctavish, Grantland, that'd be amazing and
- 4:03probably power play one as well. I think he's one of those guys
- 4:06that you could get pretty good value on in this year's draft.
- 4:09I actually I'm not. Sure about that.
- 4:11Disagrees. Yeah, I was gonna say, first of
- 4:14all, I mean, first of all, in agreement about real life, this
- 4:17move, I think it's a great move for the team that very happy
- 4:20with. But in terms of Grantland's
- 4:21actual fantasy value, last year was kind of a surprise to me at
- 4:26least how well he did in terms of fantasy.
- 4:28He was really solid on the Sharks.
- 4:29He got to be power play one there.
- 4:30He moved to Dallas, and even though he got slotted to play
- 4:33two, he still produced enough to be worth rostering.
- 4:36But now with this move to Anaheim, I think there's a shot
- 4:38that first of all, he's going to be line to or line 3 and he
- 4:42might not even get to play centre because they're so deep
- 4:44at centre. Assuming like you said, they
- 4:46Mctavish, they're going to have Carlson, Mctavish, Strom as
- 4:48their 123. So Grand is probably going to be
- 4:50a winger on line two or three who will chip in sometimes for
- 4:52face offs. And then in terms of power play,
- 4:55like he might not crack either power play unit.
- 4:57I definitely don't think he's power play one, but I don't know
- 5:01if he's gonna crack either power play unit.
- 5:02And they did split it a bit last year, but I think I could see
- 5:05them moving more towards a top unit.
- 5:08So I'm kind of worrying about whether he has any fantasy
- 5:10value, honestly. I disagree a little bit.
- 5:13I mean obviously we have to take everything with a grain of salt
- 5:16but I feel they're paying him honestly. 7,000,000 for 1/3
- 5:18liner is is way too much money. So I feel like he's going to be
- 5:22playing on that second line. But I feel like Anaheim,
- 5:24honestly, I don't even know which line is their first line.
- 5:27It's one of those situations where I think they have 3 lines
- 5:30that all have a value that could all pop off at any moment and I
- 5:32would consider any of them to be like the first line I see him
- 5:37playing on the wing besides either Mctavish or Leo Carlson.
- 5:42I think that's where he ends up because I think like Carlson
- 5:45right now playing with Cutter Gautier and and I feel like
- 5:48grandma would be a perfect compliment for that, especially
- 5:50because you can take resources. Yeah.
- 5:53We're Troy Terry if you wanna judge job Troy Terry, again, in
- 5:56the fantasy, that's all he wants to put up a little bit.
- 5:58But we're also seeing rumors that Mason Mctavish may be
- 6:01available for trade. So maybe this was just kind of
- 6:04like an insurance policy for if Mctavish gets moved.
- 6:07But I also think they're power play units are gonna be split as
- 6:10well. We saw last year 2 Anaheim had
- 6:13kind of like 2 units that were somewhat effective.
- 6:15Like we saw Mason Mctavish be on the second unit even though he's
- 6:17like one of the best players, you know what I mean?
- 6:19So I feel like grandma could easily like be on a unit that
- 6:21ends up being productive as well.
- 6:23So I feel they're paying a lot of money.
- 6:25He's a veteran that's actually really good at hockey.
- 6:27He provides, you know, I would say responsibility on the ice.
- 6:32So I feel like they want him in situations to succeed, like kind
- 6:35of like guiding the younger players that are maybe less
- 6:37responsible. So I feel like he ends up
- 6:39playing himself into a good position, even though maybe
- 6:41right now his deployment doesn't look the best on paper, you
- 6:44know, months out of the season. Yeah, I mean what you're saying
- 6:48makes sense. Obviously the whole Mctavish
- 6:50thing is massive. If Mactavish gets traded, I
- 6:52change my mind. Grantland's very solid, you
- 6:54know. But assuming we Tavish doesn't
- 6:55get traded, I still don't really see his value fantasy wise.
- 6:59Again, not real life I don't think any way he cracks power
- 7:02play 1. They did split it, so that's not
- 7:03that big a deal. But I think they're probably 1
- 7:05unit might prove to be good enough that they steal more of
- 7:08the power. Please share if that makes
- 7:09sense. Like I'm looking at their
- 7:11projected lines for next year and power play one could be
- 7:14Carlson, Terry, Mctavish, Kreider and Lacombe.
- 7:17So I don't see him bumping any of those five guys off power
- 7:20play one personally. I do think though that it's one
- 7:24of those power play 1A and B type thing with them.
- 7:28It was last. The other teams exactly and
- 7:30look, maybe they will consolidate because with young
- 7:32guys, you never know how their value is gonna change.
- 7:34However, with the my issue would be similar to I guess what
- 7:39you're saying is the mouse to feed on the ducks in general.
- 7:42Like these are three sick lines. This is a top three amazing like
- 7:47elite forward lines. I mean their goaltenders in
- 7:49question mark and also their defensemen.
- 7:51I guess it's not a sure thing by any means.
- 7:53Nevertheless, I do think he's gonna have a prominent role, but
- 7:57I understand the apprehension because there's so many
- 7:59offensive star power on this team.
- 8:01I guess. Do you think it boosts anyone
- 8:03else's value a lot by? Having just to clarify, when you
- 8:07guys say you guys are arguing that he'll have some fantasy
- 8:10value, but even you guys don't think he's like a high pick or.
- 8:12Anything. No.
- 8:13No. You're talking like you because
- 8:16exactly I think that he's going to be overlooked a little bit.
- 8:19So if you could grab him in, what, the 10th, 11th round like
- 8:22that? Could I still think that's
- 8:23early? I think he's the type of player
- 8:25like that's gonna go into double digit rounds and he'll be a
- 8:29better pick for your fantasy team than he like where his ADP
- 8:32is. I think to where his ADP is
- 8:34going to be, he's going to return on value.
- 8:36Like he's the type of guy that you know, where we draft like we
- 8:39playing a really deep league that you know, has face off wins
- 8:43and that has like 20 roster spots.
- 8:45We draft guys like, you know, JG Pajot and their valuable for our
- 8:50for our Ross. I feel like Brandon could be one
- 8:51of those guys that, you know, you drive for late, he has
- 8:54points upside and it's surrounded by players that are
- 8:56gonna get a lot of points. So she could be valuable and
- 8:59plus maybe he might have a winger eligibility and also get
- 9:02face off. So that's, you know, impactful
- 9:03for your fantasy team as well. Yeah, I would say that I don't
- 9:07think he's gonna get much faceoffs if Mactavish stays
- 9:10because Carlson, Mctavish, Strom should get most of the faceoffs,
- 9:13although he'll like jump in anytime they get pulled out of
- 9:15the faceoff dot. But I get what you're saying.
- 9:17I mean as a late round pick I'm personally not taking him, but
- 9:20you guys could be higher on him than me and still that could be
- 9:23right for sure. Our next one.
- 9:26All right, moving on to the next one.
- 9:29This was probably the the biggest one I think of the
- 9:32offseason and we'll see as we go through them, but I think this
- 9:35was the biggest one so far in terms of signings.
- 9:37Carolina Hurricanes signed Nikolai Elers to a 6 * 8.5 mil
- 9:41contract. What won't wall his fantasy
- 9:44value? This is cool, Yeah, yeah, it's
- 9:47cool IRL. And I do hope that finally he'll
- 9:53be that guy that kind of just tells Rod, hey, listen, let us
- 9:56let us have some fun on the ice because all your fantasy
- 9:59managers are pissed. But no, it's probably
- 10:02meaningless, right, because he's going to the Hurricanes.
- 10:05I also feel like they're pretty stacked at winger.
- 10:08I don't know why they really even did this, but we'll see.
- 10:12I mean, he's not bad at bringing out middle tier players values
- 10:17right? He would like Stan Coven was
- 10:19really good with them whereas ranting and sucked.
- 10:21So Taylor Hall too right? He just clearly passed his prime
- 10:26but Rod Rod got him to be good. It's not like yours is some sort
- 10:29of star going to Carolina where it's hopeless.
- 10:33That being said, I don't necessarily love this landing
- 10:37spot for reasons that we talk about all the time.
- 10:38The Hurricanes are just not a good team for players to go
- 10:42play. I'm I think this move makes
- 10:45sense on paper because we want to see what Carolina wants to do
- 10:50with their two seat situation because we know Sebastian Aho's
- 10:52there. But signing another winger I
- 10:55think replaces Seth Jarvis's spot on the wing because we know
- 11:00Jarvis is playing with auto for most of the seasons recently.
- 11:02But if Travis is going to be that two seat that they want
- 11:04because cooking yummy is clearly not the answer and Jordan Stall
- 11:07is like 45 years old set drivers is driving in second line, then
- 11:13that opens up a spot on the wing and they have special obviously,
- 11:15But then after that it's you know, it was Taylor Hall,
- 11:18Jackson Blake Logan Stankovic like these these are these are
- 11:21solid guys, but nobody like nobody's name pops as a top
- 11:25talent that can really produce. And I think dealers on Winnipeg
- 11:28has been criminally underrated player like that.
- 11:31He just hasn't been utilized to his full potential on Winnipeg
- 11:33because you know, they have a lot of mouths to feed in the
- 11:34system and I think they kind of hated him Loki.
- 11:37But I think on Carolina, maybe he'll be able to thrive and we
- 11:41know Carolina obviously capture upside in terms of fantasy
- 11:43value, but I feel like you will still get like some good
- 11:46production out of dealers. Yeah, I kind of my opinion is
- 11:50similar to that where it kind of goes both ways for healers.
- 11:53I think it actually boosts his value because as Kevin
- 11:57mentioned, he just the coach hated him and it was 2 coaches
- 12:00like Maurice left and then he got replaced and then either
- 12:05still was hated, he couldn't crack line once or play 1 to
- 12:07save his life. At this at this point, like the
- 12:10line one makes sense. They have a good line 1, you
- 12:12know, but he should have 100% on power play one for a while and
- 12:15he just couldn't crack it, you know, So that captain was here.
- 12:18He was. Now he's going to.
- 12:19He did well and it was kind of just like ohhhhh.
- 12:21Yeah, yeah, I know. Imagine what happens when you
- 12:24put your best player would have thought first line.
- 12:26Yeah, no, exactly. So he was like capped for the
- 12:29longest, for most of his career not being line one, power play
- 12:31one on Winnipeg. Now he goes to Carolina, he's
- 12:35gonna get a shot at line on power play one.
- 12:37You don't sign a player to that contract and not give them that
- 12:39shot at the very least. But as we've talked about a
- 12:42billion times on this podcast, Rod is a fantasy hockey
- 12:45terrorist, you know, and so he's now being capped by a different,
- 12:51he's now being capped by a different aspect.
- 12:53I do think that the increase in deployment is gonna mitigate the
- 12:57Rod factor. And I think he's gonna have a
- 12:59solid season. I don't think, don't get your
- 13:01expectations crazy high, but I do think he's gonna have a
- 13:04better season than if he was on The Jets.
- 13:06That's interesting, especially coming from you who's like
- 13:09resident Rod Hader. Wow, that's that's, but that's
- 13:12something there. Another, but if the PowerPoint 1
- 13:16doesn't click at the start of the year, he could be demoted
- 13:18from it. Could never.
- 13:19See it again made a big boost was think of and that was their
- 13:23quote UN quote rental and replacement.
- 13:26I mean, he's gonna be he's gonna wanna shot at success as well,
- 13:29right. So I feel like if any of these
- 13:30guys on P1, whether it's, you know, switch or or Ellers, like
- 13:34either of them might feel like are gonna be able to get bumped
- 13:37off for like a Stankovic or a Taylor Hall if he's informed,
- 13:40let's say, which is going to be unlikely.
- 13:42I don't know. I just don't think that Ellers
- 13:45was going to get power play one in.
- 13:47Winnipeg this window I think. What will this?
- 13:48We can discuss this in a second. But the constant think how this
- 13:52affects Winnipeg and their fantasy assets.
- 13:54Yeah. So I would say in terms of
- 13:56Winnipeg, the biggest guy who is getting a huge boon out of this
- 13:59is Cole Perfetti. I think this clears up that
- 14:02fifth power play one spot for him like guaranteed the only
- 14:05competition he had was Eilers with dealers being shipped out.
- 14:07OK, obviously we know the four of Connor, Scheifele, Velardi
- 14:10and Morrissey were a lock on Power Play 1, and then it was
- 14:12who was going to get that fifth spot.
- 14:14And then dealers had it towards the end of last year.
- 14:16Perfetti got it at times in the playoffs and he was super
- 14:18clutch. And by trading away dealers, I
- 14:20think they're signalling that Perfetti's gonna be on that
- 14:22power Play 1 unit. And I think he's going to be a
- 14:24huge. Breakout perfect for them has
- 14:25like multiple seasons now complained about his ice time in
- 14:29his role on the squad and and you know, he just wants to have
- 14:32more playing time and and more of an impact.
- 14:34And they just said they don't really have the room for him
- 14:36right now and he has to be patient.
- 14:38So I feel like, you know, them not resigning Euler's is kind of
- 14:41a a sign being like, listen, kid are going to get your shot and
- 14:44make the most of it now. So I also am expecting big
- 14:47things from Perfetti this year. I feel like he's set up to
- 14:49succeed and we'll have to see if he's actually that guy or not.
- 14:52Can I, can I ask her? Would you rather?
- 14:54I'll allow it. All is that allowed?
- 14:57Yeah, would you rather Perfetti or Grandland on your fantasy?
- 15:02Team. Perfetti easy.
- 15:05OK, OK, I'll, I'll leave these up to you.
- 15:07That was too easy. That's right.
- 15:10I mean, I'm very low on Granny. I really thought that was
- 15:14confused. OK I'll I'll I know my place.
- 15:17Do you have any fun with your? Others from this thing not to
- 15:20put you on would you rather? Defer.
- 15:22To the master. OK, let me think.
- 15:25Let let me think Perfetti or Logan's Stankovic, is that a
- 15:30question? Probably not.
- 15:31Yeah, yeah, for sure. OK.
- 15:35I mean, I'm very high on perfectly.
- 15:36I think he's gonna be a very big breakout.
- 15:37Perfectly, you're. Probably lock on like.
- 15:40Perfect. We've seen Zika have that
- 15:44deployment and not do much with it.
- 15:46Hmm, Perfetti or last one, Perfetti or Kevin Fiala?
- 15:53That's good. Yeah, I would probably rather
- 15:56Fiala too, but. That's just to own.
- 15:59Yellow, you know, if he doesn't get the second-half or whatever,
- 16:02but if you look pretty, has maybe the similar upside to
- 16:04Fiala. I don't know.
- 16:06I like Profeti a lot. I wouldn't be surprised.
- 16:08I'm OK. I'd be a bit surprised.
- 16:09He has a better season than Fiala.
- 16:10But like I don't think it's a crazy would you rather?
- 16:12But for me it's still Fiala over.
- 16:13Him and Perfetti reelers. Perfetti.
- 16:17Wow. Yeah.
- 16:19OK, that one. Was right in front of.
- 16:21Our faces actually upper Petty or like Ricard Raquel.
- 16:27I think pretty gets more points. Rachel's good for back.
- 16:29Cats but I feel like, well, you know, play with Crosby line 1P1
- 16:33and he has no doubt of moving that spot.
- 16:36I mean, I think he gets traded. OK.
- 16:37Brian Ross then he's the other guy does in the same spot.
- 16:41Rust Rusty should be good friend.
- 16:43Glass. Honestly, yeah.
- 16:45OK, let's move on to the next. Alright, next one.
- 16:51This might be a career revival for him or just a nothing but a
- 16:55San Jose Sharks signed John Klingberg to a one times.
- 16:584,000,002.0 Yeah, I know. I mean, this is an interesting
- 17:04one. It seems like you look at it on
- 17:05paper and you're like, alright, who cares?
- 17:06This is nothing. Klinger couldn't even crack the
- 17:08Edmonton roster. He was their 70.
- 17:10But on San Jose, they have a really stacked forward court,
- 17:13like young forward court coming up.
- 17:15That's exciting. Their defence is nonexistent.
- 17:17So his only competition for power play on quarterback is
- 17:20Timothy Lilligren, which it could go to either one of them,
- 17:23but I think that P1 quarterback spot is actually pretty
- 17:26valuable. I agree they don't have.
- 17:29I think they signed him because they need that power play
- 17:31quarterback. It can be like the Shane Gosses
- 17:34spear of the San Jose Sharks and just be like the power play
- 17:37merchant and that's it. Because I, I don't see, I don't
- 17:39see him getting, you know, 30 minutes a night on San Jose.
- 17:42But he he's like what, 50 years old now?
- 17:45But but he has that kind of reputation for when he's
- 17:48healthy, being like a, a power play specialist.
- 17:51And I feel like on San Jose, he's that's a good situation.
- 17:54It kind of reminds me of, you know, when Cam Fowler went to
- 17:57the Blues or something, you know what I mean?
- 17:58Like it was kind of like dead for fantasy and then kind of
- 18:01revives his career a little bit. Yeah, I agree.
- 18:04And I mean, this is a like the four guys tell you would be
- 18:07joining are celebrity Smith, Eckland and Toffoli.
- 18:10That's going to be a good power play this year.
- 18:12The Sharks are the Sharks doesn't talent with William
- 18:15Eklan The Who is better than Who did I get from your roster,
- 18:22Josh? Next question.
- 18:28Yeah, this is probably the best landing spot for him because
- 18:31he's gonna be given that opportunity for sure.
- 18:33Also veteran playing with younger guys that could
- 18:37definitely benefit him. I don't really know though how
- 18:41this is really gonna play out because is he gonna be under
- 18:45drafted because he's just had such a bad past few years with
- 18:49injuries and everything. He's getting drafted or people.
- 18:53Yeah, that's what I mean. Like you think he's gonna be a
- 18:55value? And yeah, I think he'll be he'll
- 18:58he'll be drafted in the same range where like, you know, last
- 19:00year drafted Justin Faulk, who was like a late round like power
- 19:04play quarterback where there wasn't really many options at
- 19:06that point. Like he, he'll go around 151413
- 19:10around there where you know, you're kind of taking dart
- 19:13throws already. And for leagues that are a
- 19:16little more shallow, I feel like he'll be a good streaming
- 19:18opportunity when, you know, Sharks have a four-game week or,
- 19:21or whatnot. Yeah, I really like.
- 19:24Hiding spot. Yeah, yeah, I really liked
- 19:26Kevin's comparison to Gosta Spirits.
- 19:28I think that's exactly what we're gonna get.
- 19:29His gospel in a lot of like deep leagues, like even last year got
- 19:33drafted like super late and he has weeks where he'll put up
- 19:36straight zeros because he has zero.
- 19:38Peripherals and he'll be on. He's also for those in power.
- 19:42Yeah, exactly. And then I'll drop him and I'll
- 19:44put up a couple of four point games in a row, you know.
- 19:46But I see, I see Klingberg as the exact same situation.
- 19:49He's gonna be power play specialist.
- 19:51He's gonna put up some points some weeks, be very
- 19:53inconsistent. But if you're picking him around
- 19:55like 20 or something, you know that's around 20 power play, one
- 19:58quarterback is. Pretty one of those late round
- 19:59targets. Yeah, absolutely.
- 20:02It's just we do have to keep in mind with the injuries, right?
- 20:04He's played 25 games in the past two years.
- 20:06That's. Really, it's so low risk,
- 20:08wouldn't even. Work.
- 20:09I would fade. Like if he gets injured about
- 20:13you drafted him so late. Definitely.
- 20:15But I, I would still probably like, I definitely not reach on
- 20:18him because of the new opportunity.
- 20:19It's just like, it could be exciting, but don't try to get
- 20:22ahead of the curve. Like let him fall to where his
- 20:24ADP is and then pick him because high risk like sorry, it's like
- 20:29a high reward and very little risk at that point.
- 20:31And that's the best I would expect out of him.
- 20:33Yeah, agreed. Do we expect like is there any
- 20:36chance that, you know, 23 year old Jack Thompson can do
- 20:39anything to push his luck on that first unit or is it really
- 20:43just like not the time for him? I don't think they're married to
- 20:46Klingberg at all at this point. Like, if the Sharks see that
- 20:48Thompson's better, they're probably not going to be a
- 20:50playoff team this year. They'd rather develop their
- 20:52young. Talent, they just signed them
- 20:53for one year, so it's like they're committed to them for
- 20:55the future. Like it's literally just this
- 20:57year and then we'll see how it goes and it's a two way contract
- 20:59as well. So like they can send them down.
- 21:02Yeah, Thompson. But the the fact that looking at
- 21:06as I was like to say, follow the money.
- 21:07You do like to say. Looking at the contract, looking
- 21:10at the contract that they signed, Klingberg 201 * 4 mil is
- 21:13a clearly like either they're like this is approve it or this
- 21:16is like do well and we're going to trade at the deadline.
- 21:19Exactly. So they're going to give him the
- 21:21shot at power play one. It just doesn't make sense with
- 21:23that contract to not give him a shot to start the start the
- 21:25season. If he does terribly, if he gets
- 21:27injured, whatever, then someone else could take it.
- 21:29But I think he's gonna be the start of the season guy.
- 21:31Yeah, I agree. I think we could move on to the
- 21:35next. Yep.
- 21:36Alright, next we've got Saint Louis Blues signed Pius Suter to
- 21:41a 2 * 4.1. Mini love, peace.
- 21:46OK, cool. Yeah.
- 21:48Cool. Cool.
- 21:49Thanks. That's all folks.
- 21:54This is, I feel like one of the more this is this the last new
- 21:57signing that that changes teams. Yeah, we're going to.
- 22:00Discuss. I feel like he was really good
- 22:02at the end of the season and replacement for Elias Patterson.
- 22:05So we kind of seen what he can do in terms of like, you know,
- 22:08being the next body up. I don't know.
- 22:11I mean, he's not going to get drafted in fantasy this year, I
- 22:13don't think. And but I think I'll keep my eye
- 22:15on him for waivers and maybe he's his role grows or he has an
- 22:19opportunity to step in, then I'll definitely have him on my
- 22:22watch list. But I feel like he's been
- 22:24reliable when given the opportunity.
- 22:25So I just don't know if he's gonna start with that
- 22:27opportunity on the Saint Louis. Will they be buried to line 3
- 22:32right away? So that's, that's the
- 22:33interesting thing. I first of all, I think in terms
- 22:35of power play, this is great for him cause Saint Louis splits
- 22:38their power play and I'd be very surprised if he doesn't make it
- 22:40on to power play too. So I think he's gonna take the
- 22:42spot that Bolduc had one, but he got traded.
- 22:45So being on power play 2 is the same as being on power play one
- 22:48when they split it. So that's going to be a good
- 22:49opportunity for him. In terms of even strength
- 22:51though, it's like you said, obviously line 1 centre is
- 22:54Thomas, no question. And then the question is, does
- 22:56Shen keep line to centre or because he's getting a bit
- 23:00older, do they move him down to three to put in under there?
- 23:02That's kind of the interesting thing because obviously if he's
- 23:04line 3 centre, there's no real value there.
- 23:06But line 2, they have a pretty solid top 6 Saint Louis.
- 23:08So so if he was like line 2 power play, 2 on a split power
- 23:12play, that's not a bad. Thing I think it's honestly, I
- 23:14think his his value is going to depend on the success of Jimmy
- 23:19Snuggerud because right now he's been like, you know, Snodgrass,
- 23:22the prospect that they have is 21 years old and he's giving
- 23:25being given the opportunity to have a a role and succeed like
- 23:29his line one power play one. I just don't know if I believe
- 23:31in it to be long term and I feel like easily like, you know,
- 23:35Cairo or or Holloway or neighbors could end up getting
- 23:38that spot. And I just feel the 2C is it's
- 23:40always nice to have a 2C on a team, but I feel like his
- 23:42wingers may not always be the most talented.
- 23:44So I just don't see him having success of his wingers.
- 23:49And if he's not going to get the P1, he's just always going to be
- 23:51on the on the back burner in my mind in terms of like, you know,
- 23:55I see he has value, but it's probably going to be later in my
- 23:57drafts. Yeah, I think it's like you said
- 24:00at the beginning, I highly doubt he gets drafted anywhere.
- 24:03But he's a good watch list guy. If like, you know, Shen goes
- 24:06down to injury or something like that or whatever, you know, you
- 24:10pick him up because he's shown the potential with one given the
- 24:12ice time to like do something with it.
- 24:14But he is a bit buried right now.
- 24:16Yeah, if he does crack line 2 and if it ends up being Holloway
- 24:19in Cairo, that's pretty solid. Linemates.
- 24:22That could be one, honestly. Yeah, exactly.
- 24:24And they have. You're right, Kevin Snugger, but
- 24:30Josh Collins knew you call him snooker.
- 24:32Rude. I don't know who's right, but
- 24:37I'm leaning towards not Josh. You have a slugger route?
- 24:42Sounds funny. Yeah alright.
- 24:44Anyway, depending on how Jimmy does this year, I could see
- 24:47Suitor being pretty solid either value lost around guy.
- 24:53We were like, Oh yeah, him and then you take him and then you
- 24:56stick around on your team for a few weeks and maybe even longer.
- 24:58But definitely not worth draft capital by any means.
- 25:02Probably not getting drafted even in the deepest of leagues.
- 25:05And I disagree a little Kevin, because if he does play with any
- 25:09of Booch, Jimmy Jordan, Cairo, Dylan Holloway or Jake neighbors
- 25:14on the line and those are like their top five wingers, you
- 25:17could do worse. Yeah, it's not.
- 25:20It's not the most elite, but it's definitely not.
- 25:22Yeah, I just see it as kind of like one of those situations
- 25:24where like reminds me like a Pavel Zacha where he has like
- 25:27crazy line mates, but he's never involved in like what's
- 25:30happening. Like, yeah, his linemates are
- 25:32are making things happen and and he's just not along.
- 25:36For that, I feel like at the end of the year last year, Suitor
- 25:39proved that he's like for. Sure.
- 25:41And be involved. I just don't know if it was like
- 25:42a Vancouver thing or if it was like a him thing.
- 25:45So I'm still. There's no way that being on
- 25:48Vancouver makes anyone that. Wasn't hard, It would be better
- 25:50than what the lies Patterson was giving you.
- 25:52So maybe it was just a comparison that was highlighting
- 25:56his situation. I don't know.
- 25:58Alright, should we dive into so the resignings now?
- 26:01We could go through through these ones quicker but there are
- 26:04some differences between the teams this coming year and this
- 26:07past year, but realistically it's more of the same for the
- 26:11next few. Yeah, so, and I will mention one
- 26:15of the reasons why there's been so many resignings this
- 26:17offseason is because of the cap raise rising.
- 26:19So a lot of teams realize they actually have more money than
- 26:21they thought they did, so they can actually keep all their
- 26:23guys. So let's dive into it.
- 26:25Firstly, we had mentioned this briefly, mentioned this a bit in
- 26:29one of our read episodes last week, but Anaheim Ducks signed
- 26:32Lucas Dostal to a 5 * 6.5 mil contract.
- 26:36I mean, this is this is we, we, we, yeah, we spoke about that
- 26:39style last last week when we talked about John Gibson, but
- 26:43love this for him. I think he's a great goalie.
- 26:45I think he's no, you know, he's obviously the the future of this
- 26:48franchise at the at the goalie position.
- 26:51And I, I think he's going to be like one of those guys that, you
- 26:53know, goes later in your draft just because he's on a team
- 26:55that's not supposed to be doing too well.
- 26:57And he'll be a value wherever he goes.
- 26:58Because for all those teams that don't draft goalies high like
- 27:01you probably shouldn't we, I think all of us on this, on this
- 27:05podcast, don't draft the goalies in the the top top rounds that
- 27:09we don't recommend it. I think he's going to be a
- 27:11popular pick for those guys that start off heavy at the forward
- 27:13and defenseman positions. I really like him as a as a 0G
- 27:17like late pick. Obviously sometimes guys like
- 27:21this get overhyped because they're on these young teams, so
- 27:24maybe we're all gonna like him and then he ends up going higher
- 27:26than you would want to grab him. But if he falls then I like him
- 27:29a lot. Yeah, I agree with that.
- 27:32Does stall. He doesn't have a massive
- 27:35contract like 5 * 6 five is. I think it's good.
- 27:38It's just it's yeah, exactly. But it's not full of the money
- 27:43to the point that they won't give me if he's going on a cold
- 27:46streak, right? Nevertheless, he's gonna
- 27:49definitely have the opportunity to be the starter from the
- 27:51beginning of the year. Totally agree.
- 27:53Josh for a 0 goalie strategy to stall is one of my favorite
- 27:56guys. And I like the Ducks.
- 27:58I mean, they're gonna be a fun team to say the least.
- 28:00And you know the thing with fringe playoff teams, which I
- 28:03believe the Ducks are, that's the guys, especially the goalies
- 28:07that you want to hold towards the end of the year.
- 28:09So if for whatever reason, you know, they're middle of the
- 28:13pack, like he could be a buy halfway through the year.
- 28:15If he is in fact the starter, I believe he will be.
- 28:17All of us do. And even if you're gonna do it
- 28:19at the beginning of the year, I think you could do worse than
- 28:22just stall as if you're going big on goalies, you could be
- 28:25your second goalie, or if you're going 0 G, he could be your top
- 28:28goalie. Would you rather Lucas the style
- 28:30or Samuel Moltable? It's like the biggest question
- 28:33to me. I'm gonna pick monotone Boo.
- 28:35I think we all loved Kevin's pronunciation of that the the
- 28:40true authentic. I do what I can.
- 28:44But I'm gonna go Montalbo here. What do you think, Josh?
- 28:47I was actually just thinking how I would love to go into next
- 28:51season with Montel Modo styles, my tandem.
- 28:53I think like as a 0G guy like I we all you said we all do it
- 28:56Kevin, but I'm the most extreme of us 3 for sure.
- 28:59Or I will draft a goalie before like round 15.
- 29:03Fab on multiple industries data gets traded.
- 29:06Hey, you know what? I'd rather spend FAB than.
- 29:07That depends what the draft capital.
- 29:09Yes, But yeah, so if I was just thinking how I would love those
- 29:12two as my tandem, but I would take Montem overdose style.
- 29:14But I view them. I mean, we had mentioned this
- 29:16last week where we kind of view Habs as one year ahead of ducks
- 29:19on their rebuild. So I like both.
- 29:22Perfect. Let's move on to the next
- 29:24signing. Alright, Edmonton Oilers sign
- 29:26Evan Bouchard to 4 * 10.5 mil contract.
- 29:29Honestly, I feel like we all know Evan Bouchard at this
- 29:32point. Like, I knew he was gonna sign.
- 29:34Everybody knew he was gonna get signed.
- 29:36It was honestly just gonna be about how much he gets signed
- 29:38for. But yeah.
- 29:40And it's still going to be a top five fantasy defenseman just
- 29:44playing with dry saddle and McDavid.
- 29:46He's on PS1. He has a a boom shot cannon
- 29:49slapshot off the point. That was a lot of words, but
- 29:53yes. But honestly, I feel it's not
- 29:57really much analysis here. Like whatever you value Bouchard
- 29:59last year, he'll be the same this year.
- 30:00Situation has really changed and that's pretty much it for sure.
- 30:03Yeah, I think it's more interesting real life than
- 30:06fantasy. Fantasy.
- 30:07It's like you said, same old, same old.
- 30:09We know who he is. But the four years really stood
- 30:11out at me as I'm not sure if it was Bouchard pushing for a
- 30:14shorter term because you know, the cap was going up and thought
- 30:16he could get more, or if it was the team thinking that, oh, this
- 30:19guy's great offence but he's pretty weak defensively and
- 30:23anyone could be great offence with McDavid and Drysdale.
- 30:25We don't want to lock him up for eight years.
- 30:27I don't know which side this term came from, but I found the
- 30:29four years very interesting. I think, I think both teams are
- 30:32both parties involved in this are probably happy because I
- 30:35feel like, you know, give them the opportunity to cash in the
- 30:39the cap is obviously going to go up in four years.
- 30:41He's not he's not going to be bad.
- 30:42He's still going to be probably at the peak of this game at this
- 30:45point. And he gives him an opportunity
- 30:47to to, you know, get another bag and also gives, you know,
- 30:51Edmonton the flexibility to I mean, with their contracts, we
- 30:54don't know who they're going to resign And, and I'm.
- 30:57Mcdavid's coming to the House after this year.
- 30:59So that's what I'm saying. So they definitely won't butcher
- 31:02on the roster when they have David anymore.
- 31:03So yeah, yeah, I just think it gives both parties flexibility
- 31:07and both parties have advantages to having flexibility and I
- 31:10think so I think it works out. I think we should see more
- 31:13shorter term contracts to be honest for the league.
- 31:16Mean first of all, in the new player, new CBA, eight years are
- 31:18no longer allowed at the Max is 7 years.
- 31:20So right off the bat already going to see any of those long
- 31:23ones. But yeah, I agree, especially
- 31:24with the cap rising, players want to.
- 31:26They don't wanna get locked in for too low of an amount.
- 31:28I have nothing to add here. It's the same for fantasy.
- 31:31This year you're drafting him similarly to last year and he'll
- 31:34be good. One of the top defensive you can
- 31:35get. Let's move on to the next.
- 31:38OK, the next. Evan Bouchard, a Quinn Hughes.
- 31:42I'm I'm taking a, I think I'm taking cues over Bouchard.
- 31:47I don't know. I don't know.
- 31:47That's crazy because obviously you look at like the team,
- 31:50right? And you look at who they're
- 31:51playing with and McGraw is way better than the garbage
- 31:53Vancouver is giving Hughes. But like Hughes is so much
- 31:56better than Bouchard. So it's kind of, it's kind of
- 31:59tough. I don't know.
- 32:00I'm going to use. I don't know you guys.
- 32:01Book Shorter Werenski. I'm going.
- 32:03Because we're still one hit wonder.
- 32:05Yeah, I think we should. Probably safer.
- 32:07Just safer, Yeah. And The thing is, these guys are
- 32:09getting picked in the first 3 rounds.
- 32:10I don't like taking crazy risks that early.
- 32:13I would take Werenski. Yeah, but you didn't.
- 32:18Whoever they. Have There we go.
- 32:20Surprise, surprise. Thank you, everybody for
- 32:23listening to Party of This, the 14 biggest offseason signings.
- 32:29So we're going to do the remaining 7 next episode.
- 32:31And yeah, stay tuned for that. Take it away, Josh.
- 32:36But about Bound Bang your management fantasy hockey
- 32:38podcast woo. Wow.
- 32:41It always surprises me when you do that.
- 32:45Fantasy seeing you guys here. Good one.
