- 0:23chickens. Hey, good morning.
- 0:28From the chicken coop, my friends.
- 0:30So today we are talking about overwhelm and we are talking
- 0:35about it from the construct of beginning where you are.
- 0:40So, a lot of times what ends up happening in the world of
- 0:44overwhelm, is its created by our need to see.
- 0:48Just how much crap we have hanging over us?
- 0:53Happens. Constantly, in fact, just this
- 0:55weekend, I was having a conversation with a friend.
- 0:58We were sitting at the beach and we Talking about, you know, the
- 1:03fact that he just had so much to do and it was overwhelming.
- 1:08And then what happens from that aspect and how you go through it
- 1:12and it was just a casual conversation, but it made me
- 1:14realize how much of that is still prevalent in every single
- 1:20one of our Lives daily. And how myself included, you
- 1:24know, this time of year always comes down to crunch time.
- 1:28I also have taken on new projects And it is one of those
- 1:33oh, no moments. Right?
- 1:34You what? We all have the oh no moments in
- 1:36overwhelm and we say, you know, I don't know how I'm going to
- 1:39get this done. I don't know, there aren't
- 1:41enough hours in a day. We start the language pattern
- 1:43that doesn't help us. Which, you know, we've talked
- 1:45about that before and we will always talk about that because
- 1:48it's where it all kind of goes to hell in a handbasket quickly
- 1:52when we start with a language pattern, that's ridiculous.
- 1:55And not helpful and here we are, you know, at the Relaxing and
- 2:02his brain can't shut off because he's in a state of talking about
- 2:09the fact that there's so much to do.
- 2:12So his brain is looping it just it was such a gift for me
- 2:15because it made me really think about the fact that.
- 2:17Wow, I forget sometimes even as much as I know, I forget how
- 2:22much of that overwhelm is still out there.
- 2:26So I wanted to talk to you about it today from the constructive
- 2:29saying okay well Well, what do you do when you're in that
- 2:32state? You know, you know, you're in
- 2:33that state clearly you know, you're in the state.
- 2:38What do you do? What happens at that point?
- 2:40Well from from the perspective of breaking down the process and
- 2:45giving you concrete information, you have to kind of go to the
- 2:49place of I have to begin where I am.
- 2:52Wherever I am meaning, If I know I have all these projects and
- 2:57their pending and I can't leverage them out to people and
- 3:00I can't do certain things and I know I have a schedule that has
- 3:05to be kept or I know I have all these things that have to be
- 3:08done very much. Like I'm with one of the things
- 3:10I'm working on that is something that is very much up against it,
- 3:14there's no one else. I can leverage it to it has to
- 3:16be me and I have to have it done by a certain date.
- 3:19So I know I have to begin where I am with it mean.
- 3:25I can't try to foresee the future and figure out well, when
- 3:30I get this done that, I can go to this.
- 3:31Or when I finish this aspect, then I can jump to this another
- 3:36other project because the moment you start to do that.
- 3:39The moment you start to what's called future pace.
- 3:41And start to see that there are more things on your list is the
- 3:45moment. You start to have a mental
- 3:47breakdown over it because there's no other way to do that,
- 3:52much work. And in the moment, Where you are
- 3:55and you haven't begun anything. It seems absolutely daunting
- 3:58overwhelming. It seems ridiculous and then you
- 4:02just sit and you don't do anything in the worst thing of
- 4:04all happens. You go into what's called
- 4:06analysis paralysis, and then you just sit there and go on how I'm
- 4:10going to get all this done. I don't know how, I don't know
- 4:11how, I don't know how. And then you just all of a
- 4:13sudden, find yourself vacuuming or you find yourself going to
- 4:17the bar and getting a beer or you find yourself, you know,
- 4:21taking off and doing nothing, whatever your nothing maybe.
- 4:25It happens. And it's the worst part of the
- 4:28the situation because you know, you need to do something but
- 4:33because you don't know the thing you need to do the most or you
- 4:37can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.
- 4:39So to speak, you end up doing nothing.
- 4:42So how do we break this pattern? How do we break it so that you
- 4:45can start to do it? Well, the very first thing is
- 4:47you have to get everything out of your head as much as you can.
- 4:51So to me doing a brain dump, Putting it all on paper, not a
- 4:56to-do list, just a brain dump of everything.
- 4:58Just get everything onto paper sit down, and legitimately just
- 5:03write it all down. All the overwhelming, thoughts,
- 5:07all the stuff that, you know, you need to do as much as the
- 5:10negative thoughts, put it all on a piece of paper.
- 5:13Get that brain dump out. So you can look at it because
- 5:15once I'm paper, then you can actually say to yourself.
- 5:18This is ridiculous. I don't need to think of it this
- 5:20way. You may even see at that point,
- 5:22like I did. I did this a couple weeks ago
- 5:26that I could leverage some of the stuff that I needed to have
- 5:28done and had my daughter handle a chunk of it and say, okay can
- 5:33you just do this now? What were they?
- 5:34Simple tasks. Yes.
- 5:36But they were simple tasks. That would have taken up two
- 5:38hours of my time. Instead, I paid her to do it and
- 5:41it's two hours of her time so it's it takes it off of that and
- 5:46you feel like you're making progress and that's the
- 5:48important piece. If progress is being made, then
- 5:51you can feel good. You can start to feel like
- 5:53you've put yourself in a position where you're headed in
- 5:56the right direction at least. So first things first, get it on
- 6:01paper. Once it's all on paper then you
- 6:03can make the decision to sit there and say okay what are
- 6:07these things that I know I can Chunk in order.
- 6:10I think we are so you know accustomed to just having to
- 6:15think we have to do everything in the moment that we think of
- 6:19it. That that's a big piece of
- 6:21forgetting that things can go in order.
- 6:23So once Have it on paper. Step two is chunk like items
- 6:28chunk the this the things together that need to be
- 6:30together. So if you've got three or four
- 6:34different projects, like this person was talking about, you
- 6:37make chunks for each of those projects so you can see them.
- 6:41And then once you have those chunks all done, then you can
- 6:44see do any of these go together. Are any of these capable of
- 6:49having like items that I can do all at once.
- 6:52So in other words, if project a Has a bunch of paperwork that
- 6:56needs to be done in sorting and project.
- 6:57C has a bunch of paperwork, done that needs to be sorted.
- 7:01Then, those are considered like items.
- 7:03And can I somehow parlay those together?
- 7:06Put them together so that I can get them done at the same time
- 7:10and then I have two chunks of one project.
- 7:12Now you might not be able to and that's okay because part C is
- 7:16not necessarily worrying about that but you know, it's just
- 7:20going to the place of saying. Okay, now I'm going to put these
- 7:23in a time frame order. I'm going to say of these all
- 7:26these things, all these these three or four chunks, you may
- 7:29only have one chunk but it's got 17 things in it to do and that's
- 7:33fine but you put them in time order.
- 7:35And you say, okay, what's the thing I'm going to focus on
- 7:38first that needs to be taken care of first.
- 7:42It has a sense of urgency to it and you sequentially go down and
- 7:46you order them. Now, this sounds so fundamental
- 7:48but you'd be surprised how in your head that's not happening.
- 7:51So don't forget to do these three steps because We'll break
- 7:55the pattern and that's all we're looking for at this point is to
- 7:57break the pattern. So remember, go off today, look
- 8:01for that and focus yourself on the fact that overwhelm just
- 8:07really comes down to saying stop and I'm going to begin where I
- 8:11am. And that's what the most
- 8:13important thing is taking a deep breath.
- 8:15Begin, where you are put it on paper and just Chill out.
- 8:21Hopefully this is helpful to you and I will see you guys
- 8:25tomorrow. Have a blessed day.
- 8:27Bye.
