- 0:00Our human lives are not developed in a straight line of
- 0:03progress. We see forward movement toward
- 0:06whatever goal we have in front of us, and then various
- 0:11retrogressive movements that set back the progress.
- 0:15That is the experience of those who have a focus or objective in
- 0:18life. For those who are not motivated
- 0:22by some specific overarching goal, there is simply a series
- 0:26of events, activities, relationships, enjoyments and
- 0:30sufferings that make up the mixed lives they lead.
- 0:35There are multiple and complex interactions that 'cause this
- 0:39oscillation to occur. First, there are the conflicting
- 0:43needs, desires and demands of the various parts of the being.
- 0:48These are modified by the stage of life development along with
- 0:53the training, education, traumas and societal expectations to
- 0:58which the individual has been exposed.
- 1:02Additionally, there's the action of the three gunas of nature
- 1:06which are always moving and changing their predominance and
- 1:09balance in all parts of the nature.
- 1:13The combination of the different intentions of the various parts
- 1:16of the being and the developmental stage of the
- 1:19individual, with the varying response due to the alternation
- 1:23of the gunas, leads to a complex, sometimes seemingly
- 1:27inexplicable difference in reaction.
- 1:31For the spiritual seeker, there's an added factor of the
- 1:34opening of the psychic being and its more direct influence.
- 1:39This influence, however, has to work through the various parts
- 1:43of the being, the development of the instruments and the
- 1:47pressures working on the external nature and the life
- 1:50activities. We thus see that there are
- 1:53movements and moments when the spiritual aspiration is in front
- 1:58and the being is lit up with a spiritual glow, when friends or
- 2:03family enter that space, or when work or financial circumstances
- 2:08create added pressures, or when some past tendency arises based
- 2:13on a new situation triggering its action.
- 2:17The aspiration, the consecration, the feeling of
- 2:21oneness or bliss can easily recede into the background as
- 2:26the external nature takes over for a time.
- 2:30The seeker carries with him all of the tendencies in seed form
- 2:35until they are fully and completely rejected from the
- 2:38being, and they can lie latent and dormant until the right
- 2:43circumstance arises for them to sprout up suddenly.
- 2:48The changing predominance of the gunas often provides such an
- 2:51opportunity as he responds differently when Sattva is in
- 2:56the ascendant with its more calm and insightful demeanour than
- 3:01when Rajas with its desires, passions and more aggressive
- 3:05pattern dominates, or when Tamas with its darkness, fear and
- 3:11weakness, dullness and torpor takes its dominant position for
- 3:16a time. The mother advises that by
- 3:20placing the psychic being at the core and referring each movement
- 3:23to it, the seeker, as a witness of the nature, can immediately
- 3:28see what forces are in control at the moment and thereby choose
- 3:32to support those that advance the spiritual growth and reject
- 3:37those that oppose or weaken that development.
- 3:41The mother observes. Quote You can be a different
- 3:46person at different moments in your life.
- 3:49I know people who took decisions, had a strong will,
- 3:53know what they wanted and prepared to do it.
- 3:57Then there was a little reversal in the being.
- 3:59Another part came up and spoiled all the work in 10 minutes.
- 4:04What had been accomplished in two months was all undone.
- 4:08When the first part comes back, it is in disarray.
- 4:11It says what then? The whole work has to be started
- 4:15again slowly. Hence it is evident that it is
- 4:19very important to become aware of the psychic being.
- 4:23One must have a kind of signpost or a mirror in which all things
- 4:27are reflected and show themselves as they truly are.
- 4:31And then according to what they are, one puts them in one place
- 4:36or another. One begins to explore, to
- 4:40organize. That takes time.
- 4:44The part comes back three or four times and every part that
- 4:48comes up says put me in the 1st place.
- 4:51What the others do is not important, not at all important.
- 4:55It is I who will decide, for I am the most important.
- 5:00I am sure that if you look at yourself, you will see that
- 5:03there's not one among you who has not had the experience.
- 5:07You want to become conscious, to have goodwill.
- 5:11You have understood, your aspiration is shining, all is
- 5:16brilliant, illuminated. But all of a sudden something
- 5:20happens, a useless conversation, some unfortunate reading, and
- 5:26that upsets everything. Then one thinks that it was an
- 5:29illusion one lived in, that all things were seen from a certain
- 5:33angle. This is life 1 stumbles and
- 5:38falls at the first occasion one tells oneself 01 can't always be
- 5:44so serious. And when the other part returns
- 5:47once again, one repents bitterly.
- 5:50I was a fool. I have wasted my time.
- 5:54Now I must begin again. At times there is one part
- 5:58that's ill humored in revolt, full of worries, and another
- 6:03which is progressive, full of surrender.
- 6:06All that one after the other. End Quote Reference Sri
