- 0:23chickens. Hey everybody.
- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Poop. So today we are talking about
- 0:34the power of recognizing how you have to cut yourself a, you
- 0:39know, an opportunity in the next moment as opposed to waiting.
- 0:44Until the next day, this time of the year is so fundamentally
- 0:50critical. If you've set your goals, your
- 0:52intentions, you may have, you may have not.
- 0:54But if you said him and and then you blow it.
- 0:56What happens? Like do you, wait until the next
- 0:58day to fix it? No, no, no.
- 1:00No, you realize that the next moment you have another
- 1:03opportunity. Every moment is a new beginning,
- 1:07you know, there is a real power in this as opposed to telling
- 1:10yourself. I got to wait till the next day
- 1:13I've got to wait until, you know, I sleep, I've got to shake
- 1:16this off, I've got to do whatever.
- 1:17And then all of a sudden, I'll have my next do-over as opposed
- 1:21to just saying, hey, you know what, no, I've got a new moment.
- 1:24I can give, you know, give this an opportunity to restart itself
- 1:28in the next moment. So let's say you're at the
- 1:31office and they have the dreaded birthday party with the, you
- 1:35know, the cookies and the cakes and everything else.
- 1:38Every time I, you know, talk about this.
- 1:40I always think of Elaine from Seinfeld when she boycotted all
- 1:43the birthday parties and she got everybody so upset because she
- 1:47just didn't want all the birthday parties with all the
- 1:50cakes. Well, now the people are
- 1:51starting to go back into the office again, everybody's back
- 1:54at that. So what if you've made a
- 1:56declaration that you're going to be, you know, really healthy and
- 2:00you're going to be Not eating anything bad.
- 2:02And then all of a sudden you're in the office and there's the
- 2:04plate of doughnuts don't don't, don't or the cake comes by or
- 2:10somebody's puts out the container of Eminem's.
- 2:13That's the one that always used to get me.
- 2:16And you just see this giant container of Eminem sitting
- 2:19there and it's like they're just calling you, they beckon to be
- 2:22taken and it's so frustrating because you're fighting with
- 2:26yourself, you're having that internal argument about.
- 2:29Do I do it. Do I not do it.
- 2:30Do I do. What do I not do it?
- 2:32Well let's just say you do it. Okay let's say you give in and
- 2:35you do it. Do you have to wait until next
- 2:38day to decide that you're you know?
- 2:41Alright I can start over again right now.
- 2:43No. I mean you can do that start
- 2:45over again. Right in the moment, you don't
- 2:47have to wait till the next day and it may stop.
- 2:50You from continuing to eat the things you shouldn't or, you
- 2:54know, go further down the line like if you're at a party or you
- 2:57go out to dinner and you're like, you order the salad.
- 3:00Great. But then all of a sudden you
- 3:02know, everyone wants to go out for dessert and drinks.
- 3:04Well, now you've got a decision to make and you might be able to
- 3:07say okay well I'll go. I'm just not going to have the
- 3:11drinks. So what happens if you have a
- 3:12drink? All right.
- 3:14Have the drink. If you must, but don't have two
- 3:17drinks, have wondering and then start over again and don't beat
- 3:21yourself up for it. The beating yourself up is worse
- 3:24than anything else because as you've heard me say before the
- 3:28beatings will continue until morale improves.
- 3:30It rarely works, so just getting mad at yourself, getting
- 3:34frustrated with yourself hating yourself, you know that doesn't
- 3:38work long-term. All that does is cause more
- 3:40issues of anxiety, frustration, depression.
- 3:43And you just don't need that. That is definitely a no-go.
- 3:47So contemplate, how you want to handle this before?
- 3:52It actually comes up. This is one of those
- 3:54conversations about not lying to yourself.
- 3:56How will you handle it? What will you say?
- 3:58When will you do the do-over? How Quickly will you recover?
- 4:01These are all really important questions on top of the big
- 4:05question. About, who's driving in that
- 4:07moment is your Optimist or pessimist driving what emotion
- 4:11is clearly in charge and what is that emotion doing to you for
- 4:16you with you? You know you really have to keep
- 4:18track of this piece of it. Because this is when you know,
- 4:22your identity really wants to be clear and how you can make
- 4:27things happen when you choose to or make things get Worse when
- 4:31you choose to all because of that damn bus driver.
- 4:34So you know, that's the best way I can tell you to keep track of
- 4:39it is just check-in who's driving ask the right questions
- 4:42and then see, you know, am I set up to fail or my setup for
- 4:45something good? Like, you know, if you're in a
- 4:46bad mood and you're just like, frustrated with everybody and
- 4:49all of a sudden, everyone's asking you what to do, you're
- 4:50just gonna be like, I don't care whatever we do, it doesn't
- 4:52matter to me and you're going to take that with you into the
- 4:55choices. So that's why I'm saying, let's
- 4:58be really, really cognizant and Aware of this.
- 5:02And remember the next moment is a new beginning.
- 5:05So don't blow it, okay. I hope you guys have a fabulous
- 5:08day with all kinds of new moments to start over and I will
- 5:13see you tomorrow. Bye.
