Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: Hey, welcome back to the North Florida sports network.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Everybody's doing alright.
- 0:14Speaker 1: December 29, 2023, to late night, look ahead to the orange bowl between the Florida State Seven Olds and the Georgia Bulldogs.
- 0:26Speaker 1: And what is a game that, if you looked at the record before the season, you would think, hey, this is going to be a playoff matchup.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Only one loss between the combined teams, but not this year.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Georgia was number one all year, pretty much so.
- 0:49Speaker 1: They came up short in the SEC championship to Alabama, ending their hopes for a three-peat Florida State 13-0 on the season.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Acc championship was snubbed from the playoff Without injured quarterback Jordan Travis as the main reason used by the committee to leave FSU out.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Both teams come into this game in what is a classic game, a historic game.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Both teams come in, I would say angry and not a hundred percent, especially on the Seminole side.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Florida State will be without almost its entire starting offense when you come to quarterback, running back, wide receiver and that's not only the top wide receiver, that's the top two wide receivers, not only the top running back, that's the top two running backs, not only the top quarterback the backup quarterback is out.
- 2:02Speaker 1: So you are back to a third string quarterback with.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Now you have receivers playing running back on defense, you've lost their best pass rusher.
- 2:14Speaker 1: The defense is going to be a little bit stronger, I think, based on a couple of guys that are going to play in the game.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Deload decided to stay Braden, fiske, fisk I call him.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Fiske is staying for this game, but they're going to be under man Georgia couple of guys.
- 2:36Speaker 1: They're going to be with most of their starting 22, though about 18 out of 22.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Florida State about six.
- 2:45Speaker 1: So that just shows you why the spread is now up to almost three touchdowns.
- 2:54Speaker 1: So does Florida State have a chance of winning this game?
- 2:59Speaker 1: I mean yeah.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I mean yes, I mean any team that can win a game.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I mean you play it on the field, right.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I mean that's why you play the game until this year, where it doesn't matter.
- 3:09Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean Florida State can win this game, but it's going to take.
- 3:15Speaker 1: They're going to have to get some big plays, they're going to have to have another great effort by that defense and they're going to have to have some breaks, because the depth is going to be an issue in this game.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Georgia has the quarterback advantage.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Georgia has more starters that are going to play in this game.
- 3:39Speaker 1: So it's hard to really imagine Florida State winning this game.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Now they can do it.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Mike Norvell has proven to be the right man for the job.
- 3:55Speaker 1: He has brought Florida State back to respectability, to the top of the game.
- 3:59Speaker 1: The Dada Bobby Dot award winner this year, coach of the year, mike Norvell, but this would be his greatest task if he was able to pull this game off.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I don't see it.
- 4:15Speaker 1: I mean, I mean every, I, every.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I went to the FSU but there's no.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I don't see them having a chance in this game.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I really don't.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I think if they were to cover the spread, that would be a victory, and not to say which, because it's not the team.
- 4:32Speaker 1: It is not the team that's playing, is not the team that fought, and I and I'm talking about even with the quarterback out.
- 4:41Speaker 1: So I don't want what you already can see, it waiting to happen.
- 4:49Speaker 1: The swell is coming for people to say, hey, look, let's simmer down with.
- 4:55Speaker 1: The FSU should have been in the playoff, talk and no, sorry, it's never gonna end.
- 5:00Speaker 1: They always and forever should have been in the playoff.
- 5:03Speaker 1: That's just the way it is.
- 5:05Speaker 1: I don't care what happens.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I don't care if it's 50 to zero in this game.
- 5:09Speaker 1: This game is a shell of what it should be.
- 5:11Speaker 1: All right, this is a scrimmage game.
- 5:13Speaker 1: This is a glorified spring game for next year, unfortunately.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Now, this is an important game for the players that are playing in it, the experience of it but the guys that would be playing in this game for FSU especially if this were in New Orleans or Pasadena kind of just takes a little bit out of it and it's hard to ask.
- 5:42Speaker 1: You know you could say, well, you know why wouldn't they want to prove against a Georgia team that they're a good team?
- 5:52Speaker 1: You know that they can go up against it, but that's not the goal.
- 5:56Speaker 1: That's not realistic, especially now with guys like Z-Verse and Coleman, who came back for this, for one specific verse, especially Fabian Love, it especially these guys came back to win the championship, the national championship, to have a chance at it, to play in the playoff, to risk getting injured in a game where you got snubbed after you did everything, possibly, in your efforts.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I'm not gonna get mad at that and if there's any team ever that was justified for opting out of this game, it's this 2023 Florida State Seminal team and that's it.
- 6:46Speaker 1: There's no other team that deserves it to sit out a game other than this team.
- 6:50Speaker 1: So let's get to the field though, and how could FSU win this game?
- 6:55Speaker 1: Well, it's gonna have to be.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Brock Glenn's gonna have to play like he's not a deer in the headlights, because last time he looked like a deer in the headlights I mean, louisville just blitzed the house at him and he wasn't ready, which you kind of knew that was gonna happen.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Now, hopefully, you can see that improvement from one game to the next.
- 7:24Speaker 1: A little bit more time to prepare, not enough reps, so thanks to the backup quarterback who hung around and took some first team reps.
- 7:36Speaker 1: You know that's not good, but they're gonna battle through it.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Brock Glenn's gonna have to come out and not turn the ball over.
- 7:44Speaker 1: That's been the strength of this Florida State team all year.
- 7:47Speaker 1: If they can have the new guys that are gonna play take on that attitude of ball security, then they'll have a fighting chance.
- 7:57Speaker 1: But if Brock Glenn comes out and turns the ball over, it might be a long night for the Seminoles Georgia.
- 8:06Speaker 1: You know they're thinking that they're one of the best four teams.
- 8:11Speaker 1: They just didn't deserve it as much as Alabama did, really.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I mean they would be favored against any team in the country, any team, if they were lining up and playing, which kind of throws out that four best idea out of the window.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Because If that was true, well then George is better than Alabama then.
- 8:32Speaker 1: But they played right.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Well, florida State played two SEC teams.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I know, I know I can, and you know when this game came out it was gonna be like this and people are down there covering it might nor vellison a great job Getting them ready.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Moving on.
- 8:49Speaker 1: You have to move on.
- 8:50Speaker 1: You have to fight the next challenge.
- 8:52Speaker 1: There's gonna be a lot of disappointing moments in life and I think his message has been true.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I know it's gotta.
- 9:01Speaker 1: I mean, I can't imagine how tough it's been for him and these guys to be able to Face that every day.
- 9:07Speaker 1: But man just grind, man go out there and work, go out there and get it, and I think he's the right man for the job.
- 9:12Speaker 1: But this job is gonna be too tall of a task.
- 9:17Speaker 1: I Don't see it.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I see Georgia with a huge win here, big.
- 9:22Speaker 1: I see Georgia winning big.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Now, if you want me to put on my FSU hat and Try to Convince myself that Florida State can win this game, shoot, let's do it, why not?
- 9:41Speaker 1: So let's get into this Zone.
- 9:45Speaker 1: All right, here we go.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Yeah Well, all right, you know Broccoli's ready.
- 9:54Speaker 1: You know this is a guy who reeks confidence.
- 9:57Speaker 1: This is a guy that is just bound To throw five touchdowns.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I mean he has been held back.
- 10:04Speaker 1: I'm lucky you mean Everyone's lucky he didn't blow up in the first game.
- 10:08Speaker 1: This guy is Better than any other quarterback on the roster, rating wise Coming out of high school.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Even better than Jordan Travis.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Maybe he's got wheels.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Do you see that run against Northern Alabama?
- 10:20Speaker 1: He did the dance.
- 10:22Speaker 1: He's got confidence.
- 10:23Speaker 1: And then you got a guy like Hickey Williams coming out.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I mean this kid, wow, I mean what I've been hearing about, just the explosiveness and how much you know him and they're gonna hook up.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Man, you just like you're gonna see the next future combo here in Florida State.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Lord, get started right here in the orange ball man, hakeem Williams from Brooklyn.
- 10:43Speaker 1: It's gonna be a special.
- 10:44Speaker 1: They're gonna get together for three touchdowns on the night.
- 10:47Speaker 1: You see that huh and anybody.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Well, what about Trey Benson and Lawrence Tullfilia?
- 10:51Speaker 1: They're not out.
- 10:52Speaker 1: How do you run the ball?
- 10:53Speaker 1: Well, chaka Douglas is gonna come in and he's gonna run the Dagon Wildcat and he's right down the throat of the Bulldogs.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Yeah, he's gonna run it and then they're gonna give it to Holmes and Holmes is gonna run it and then they're gonna flick it back to do span.
- 11:07Speaker 1: He's gonna throw it deep down the field to Williamson for a touchdown.
- 11:11Speaker 1: And I mean, the defense man, braden Fisk, is just going to sack lunch all day and they're just no stopping this defense from just eating George's Hearts out and they're just gonna end any chance that Georgia might have to call themselves orange bold champions.
- 11:42Speaker 1: All right, I didn't believe that one.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I mean, I couldn't even believe it.
- 11:45Speaker 1: I Would be shocked.
- 11:47Speaker 1: What will I do if Florida State wins this game?
- 11:50Speaker 1: Well, we're gonna go streaking, maybe.
- 11:54Speaker 1: No, I doubt that.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Gotta do something crazy.
- 11:56Speaker 1: I mean, we're gonna, we're gonna be national champs.
- 12:00Speaker 1: You gotta declare that there's no way that could happen.
- 12:03Speaker 1: What would?
- 12:03Speaker 1: What would the narrative be?
- 12:04Speaker 1: But I think it's gonna be a blowout and I don't think anybody that would say that it had anything to do with.
- 12:14Speaker 1: The result Is just, they don't know what they're talking about.
- 12:18Speaker 1: They don't.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Football was killed in a way which we knew was inevitable to happen once they started this committee.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Luckily, they'll have automatic bids last year.
- 12:30Speaker 1: But you know, do get mad at Jim Phillips if you are a Florida State fan, because he could have signed the thing.
- 12:36Speaker 1: We could have been having 12 teams this year, so you'd be upset about the seeding if, if anything but Florida State is suing the ACC and you know, I think they might have a good chance at this because an addendum was signed a few years back by old Jim Phillips and, uh, he just did it on his own and that has to do with the extension of Of waiting to see if you're going to extend the rights from 27 to 36, and he moved back that decision to 2025, where he signed an addendum where he signed the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right, and then will.
- 13:15Speaker 1: It requires two-thirds votes, my man and uh, that just throws the whole thing off.
- 13:21Speaker 1: So Florida State Although they're gonna get killed tomorrow probably might Save themselves some money here went in terms of getting out of this terrible grant of rights deal that, uh, the ACC and ESPN put together for their step child, which was the ACC.
- 13:45Speaker 1: We'll go back to the orange bull.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I mean, you're talking about a bulldog team.
- 13:51Speaker 1: That was right there.
- 13:53Speaker 1: We had to go.
- 13:57Speaker 1: We got to get on out of here.
- 14:00Speaker 1: It's late, my ride's here, just wanted to get it out there, man.
- 14:05Speaker 1: If anybody thinks that a loss to that come probably the best team in the country, georgia, means Florida State fans are going to ever shut up about this, they're completely wrong.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Okay, so that never.
- 14:26Speaker 1: That doesn't change what happened, because the game is the game and like, yes, I would love for all the players to rally together and show that they're wrong by beating Georgia handily.
- 14:38Speaker 1: That might not have happened with their full strength and that doesn't mean anything either.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Georgia is a damn good team, one of the best four teams.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Now, if Florida State was at full strength playing them, then, yes, you could probably draw a little bit more conclusions off of it, but they ruined that chance.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I mean, that's why Michigan was shocked.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Every player is shocked.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I mean you go undefeated.
- 15:05Speaker 1: You thought you were going to make it.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Nope, this year you get the orange bowl, the ACC champions, undefeated.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Florida State's look to cap off what would be the 14th season, just like in 2013,.
- 15:25Speaker 1: But this time won't be for a national championship, it will be for a bowl of oranges.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Yep, what are you going to do, hopefully, come out and play hard, which I think they'll do.
- 15:43Speaker 1: We'll leave you to hang around, because I think the fact that Georgia, if they weren't playing a team like Florida State, is undefeated who's going to get, you know, effort from Georgia?
- 15:57Speaker 1: They probably would mail it in too.
- 15:59Speaker 1: They'd have more guys out, but they're.
- 16:01Speaker 1: I think the matchup has given them a little bit of spark, and I think that they're just deeper.
- 16:08Speaker 1: It would be, it would sit, but you know what if Florida State were to pull this off?
- 16:14Speaker 1: I mean, wow, talk about coach of the year, coach of lifetime.
- 16:19Speaker 1: It has nothing to do with what this team accomplished this year, though, so anybody that says anything else, you just tell them to take a hike.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Well, good night.
- 16:29Speaker 1: We're going to watch the games and we'll react to them, and we'll talk to you next time right here on the North Florida Sports Network.
