- 0:00Speaker 1: Oh, my dad's calling back.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Okay.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Oh, he's golfing. I'm on a podcast right now.
- 0:11Speaker 2: What's the question? Oh, to describe.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Thank you, Ness. I'm on a podcast and they had
- 0:15Speaker 1: a question.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Welcome to Born to the Game, produced by ARCA Media
- 0:51Speaker 2: Group in collaboration with Inflection Network and distributed through iHeartMedia.
- 0:56Speaker 2: This is a space for the children and families of
- 0:58Speaker 2: iconic athletes, entertainers, and cultural figures share the truth behind legacy.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Not just what their families did, but who they were
- 1:05Speaker 2: and how that legacy continues. Her father, David Justice, spent
- 1:09Speaker 2: 14 seasons in Major League Baseball. He's a three-time MLB All-Star,
- 1:14Speaker 2: a two-time Silver Slugger, 1990 National League Rookie of the Year,
- 1:20Speaker 2: two-time World Series champion, 2000 ALCS MVP, and a member
- 1:25Speaker 2: of the Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame. But today, we're
- 1:28Speaker 2: getting to know Raquel Justice. Woo, more. Raquel has been
- 1:32Speaker 2: building a career in a name of her own as
- 1:34Speaker 2: an actress, with credits including Andy Mack, One Day at
- 1:38Speaker 2: a Time, Black-ish, Quantum Leap, and most recently, Dexter Originalson.
- 1:43Speaker 2: But there's also so much more to her than what
- 1:46Speaker 2: we see on the screen. Today, we're talking about family,
- 1:49Speaker 2: growing up with a justice name, pressure, identity, her love
- 1:52Speaker 2: of acting and storytelling, finding her own purpose, and what
- 1:55Speaker 2: it looks like to honor the legacy you were born
- 1:58Speaker 2: into while creating one that is completely your own. Raquel Justice!
- 2:03Speaker 1: Welcome!
- 2:04Speaker 2: And born to the game! Welcome, welcome! Thank you for
- 2:08Speaker 2: having me. Oh my gosh, I don't want to jinx it.
- 2:11Speaker 2: I don't want to jinx it. Oh my gosh. Because
- 2:14Speaker 2: there were like two of us. I was really laughing.
- 2:16Speaker 1: What is a silver slug?
- 2:18Speaker 2: Did you even know? I mean, it's very important, Raquel.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I know he was in the Hall of Fame. I
- 2:22Speaker 1: know he's a bobblehead.
- 2:23Speaker 2: And you're reading it like, wait, he's a bobblehead? I
- 2:25Speaker 2: think I had his bobblehead, actually.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Did you really?
- 2:27Speaker 2: I think I did. My brother is a huge David
- 2:29Speaker 2: Justice fan, so he's going to probably... He'll love to
- 2:31Speaker 2: hear that. Yes, yes, yes. You said my dad would
- 2:33Speaker 2: love to hear that. Isn't that so funny?
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:35Speaker 2: They love to hear when people... No, literally.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I remember, like, so many times he'd just sit us
- 2:39Speaker 1: out on the couch and just pull up YouTube and
- 2:41Speaker 1: just be like, all right, right here, I did the... Like,
- 2:43Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm 12.
- 2:43Speaker 2: And you're like, I don't care.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I don't... Yeah, I'm, like, trying to read. Yeah.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, no, for sure. I love that. That
- 2:50Speaker 2: sounds super cool. Well, we are so excited to have
- 2:54Speaker 2: you join us. Thank you. You're so beautiful. So beautiful.
- 2:57Speaker 1: And.
- 2:57Speaker 2: We can't wait to get to know you. Not just
- 3:00Speaker 2: being David Justice's daughter. We got Raquel, baby. That's way cooler.
- 3:05Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. But before we dive into that,
- 3:09Speaker 2: just take us back to the family, your childhood. What
- 3:13Speaker 2: was it like growing up? In the Justice household. With
- 3:17Speaker 2: a silver slugger. Yeah, like, ugh, so cool. What was it?
- 3:22Speaker 2: ALS 2000.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Like, again, like, don't know any of that. Like, I
- 3:26Speaker 1: don't think I've ever heard that before. No, it was crazy.
- 3:29Speaker 1: It was insane. Mostly because, honestly, not even because he's
- 3:32Speaker 1: David Justice, because I have so many cousins. I have
- 3:35Speaker 1: such a big family. We are the house that everyone
- 3:37Speaker 1: flocks to. And my parents trusted me a lot because
- 3:41Speaker 1: I was a very good daughter.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Of course.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I got all my stuff done. And what I did
- 3:46Speaker 1: in my free time was read. So they were like, oh,
- 3:49Speaker 1: she's like she's cool. So they just let me go
- 3:51Speaker 1: off and do whatever. And I would be in like
- 3:54Speaker 1: the craziest situations. Like I remember one time me and
- 3:57Speaker 1: my cousin Gavin, we just thought it'd be like super
- 3:59Speaker 1: cool to try to make like a parachute. with like
- 4:02Speaker 1: our sheets and we have a little tower at my
- 4:04Speaker 1: house and we would like, we went to the top
- 4:07Speaker 1: of it, we had the sheets, we had it all
- 4:08Speaker 1: ready to go and I was about to be like,
- 4:10Speaker 1: all right, Gavin, jump, let's see if it works and
- 4:12Speaker 1: my abuelo, he came running around the side of the
- 4:14Speaker 1: house and he was like, get down from there, like
- 4:16Speaker 1: yelling at us, like, It was so crazy. But that's
- 4:19Speaker 1: the type of stuff that we were on. So y'all
- 4:21Speaker 1: didn't jump?
- 4:22Speaker 2: We didn't jump. We were trying to kill y'all. Literally.
- 4:24Speaker 2: So what was the results?
- 4:26Speaker 1: The results were, like, what.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Could have been. Oh, my gosh. Like, what could have been?
- 4:30Speaker 1: Because, like, it could have worked. I think it would
- 4:32Speaker 1: have worked.
- 4:32Speaker 2: She said it could have worked. It could have worked.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I mean, how long was the drop down?
- 4:36Speaker 1: It was, like, 20 feet.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Girl. Raquel.
- 4:39Speaker 1: No, it was bad. It was bad. But, like, honestly,
- 4:44Speaker 1: I really, really, like, commend my grandparents and my parents because...
- 4:48Speaker 1: there was a lot of us. Like, at any given point,
- 4:50Speaker 1: there's probably eight kids in the house plus our friends.
- 4:53Speaker 1: And my cousin's friends, they'll come too. Like, it was
- 4:56Speaker 1: really fun to grow up in that house. Five dogs.
- 4:58Speaker 1: We were a big animal family too. So we had like,
- 5:01Speaker 1: bearded dragons and geckos and snakes and, like, boa constrictors and, like, no, seriously. Oh.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And the boa constrictor one time, he escaped. Girl, no.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Couldn't find him for, like, four days. Oh. My mom's bathroom. Oh,
- 5:13Speaker 1: my gosh.
- 5:13Speaker 2: That happens to me with the bearded dragon. Like, I
- 5:16Speaker 2: was netting and they lost him. His name was Spike.
- 5:19Speaker 2: They lost him. They took him out of his cage
- 5:21Speaker 2: and they couldn't find him. And I was like, we're
- 5:23Speaker 2: not going to sleep until we find him. Yeah.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Also, I'm leaving.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Exactly. Exactly. We found him after two hours, but.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I had two hamsters I named Rihanna and Beyonce. Oh. Yes,
- 5:33Speaker 1: of course. And they would fight a lot, but they
- 5:35Speaker 1: got out one time and I couldn't find them for
- 5:37Speaker 1: a week. And so I just came to the conclusion, like,
- 5:40Speaker 1: they're gone. Like, they didn't eat for a week. And
- 5:43Speaker 1: we found one of them in the laundry room and
- 5:45Speaker 1: then one of them in the fireplace. And they were alive.
- 5:48Speaker 1: They were both alive and kicking, so I put them
- 5:49Speaker 1: back in their cage. And then the next morning, I
- 5:52Speaker 1: woke up, and Rihanna had killed Beyonce.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Oh, my God!
- 5:55Speaker 1: Rihanna, they had fought to the death. I am.
- 5:59Speaker 2: My wig is on the floor. No, literally. Oh, my God.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I'm like 11. She... I was like, what? But how
- 6:04Speaker 1: did she kill it? How did she go and kill
- 6:06Speaker 1: the queen? No, that's what I'm saying.
- 6:07Speaker 2: She said, how is she going to kill the queen?
- 6:08Speaker 1: Goodbye. Like, where's the beehive? Like, they're going to be
- 6:10Speaker 1: real upset.
- 6:11Speaker 2: The beehive is going to be watching this live. I
- 6:13Speaker 2: got beef with it.
- 6:13Speaker 1: And so I'm holding, like, Rihanna later that day in
- 6:15Speaker 1: my hands in the kitchen. And, like, I didn't tell
- 6:17Speaker 1: my parents yet that, like, she killed Beyonce because I
- 6:20Speaker 1: was going through grief, you know.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, that's traumatic.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Well, of course. And so I'm sitting in the kitchen
- 6:24Speaker 1: and I'm just looking at her and then she seizes
- 6:26Speaker 1: out in my hands.
- 6:27Speaker 2: No. And she dies.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Raquel.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Okay, but, like. Again, if this is triggering, we don't
- 6:33Speaker 2: have to go down that route. But how does a
- 6:34Speaker 2: hamster kill another hamster?
- 6:37Speaker 1: Well, that's a good question. I don't know. There's a
- 6:40Speaker 1: thing with hamsters. I feel like they must have fought.
- 6:44Speaker 1: They bit each other? Maybe. You know what I mean?
- 6:47Speaker 1: And there's a thing with hamsters where that's the one
- 6:50Speaker 1: animal you get if you want them to have a
- 6:51Speaker 1: traumatic death, basically. Because they all die in traumatic ways. What?
- 6:54Speaker 1: Talk to anybody who's ever owned a hamster as a kid.
- 6:57Speaker 1: they'll literally like, they'd all die in the craziest ways.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Like it's insane. And so, I mean, I think I
- 7:03Speaker 1: have one of the best stories of that. I don't
- 7:05Speaker 1: know how we got on like dead hamsters, but it
- 7:07Speaker 1: was crazy. Lots of animals, lots of cousins, lots of personalities.
- 7:12Speaker 1: We're all very strong personalities. Every single person in my family,
- 7:15Speaker 1: I think like, I think we're all very, very, if
- 7:20Speaker 1: you meet all of us, I always tell people beforehand,
- 7:22Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, I'm really excited for you to meet
- 7:23Speaker 1: my family, but we're all very strong. personalities so it's
- 7:28Speaker 1: like we're all like kind of characters i'd like to
- 7:32Speaker 1: not warn but like give a heads up.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Yeah you know yeah just try to but it just
- 7:36Speaker 2: seems like it was so much good energy it was
- 7:39Speaker 2: and is that why you're the way you are today
- 7:41Speaker 2: i think.
- 7:41Speaker 1: So yeah i definitely think so i think my parents
- 7:44Speaker 1: trusting me enough i tricked them really well like um
- 7:47Speaker 1: to be able to do like whatever i wanted around
- 7:49Speaker 1: the house like i had a really big sense of
- 7:51Speaker 1: responsibility too as like since i was a very little
- 7:54Speaker 1: kid I never wanted to do bad. Like I never
- 7:56Speaker 1: did any like of the normal teenage things to like
- 7:59Speaker 1: try to like act out. I feel like I was
- 8:01Speaker 1: pretty boring. I would literally just stay inside. And like
- 8:05Speaker 1: I remember when COVID happened, I like would read like
- 8:07Speaker 1: one book at night just to like I would just
- 8:09Speaker 1: read and read and read and I would do with
- 8:10Speaker 1: my dogs and. My grandparents are, like, a really big, formative, like,
- 8:14Speaker 1: figure in my life. Like, they live with us.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Is dad's side or mom's side?
- 8:18Speaker 1: Mom's side.
- 8:19Speaker 2: I love that multi-generational household. You don't do that anymore. No.
- 8:22Speaker 1: But I think it's so important, like, learning from them
- 8:25Speaker 1: growing up. Also, I think, like, older people have so
- 8:27Speaker 1: much wisdom. And just seeing my abuela, she looks like me.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Even though she's not black, she's Mexican, we have the
- 8:35Speaker 1: same face. When people are like, who do you look like?
- 8:38Speaker 1: Your mom or your dad? I'm like, no, my grandma.
- 8:40Speaker 1: That's what I look like. I have her nose, her cheeks, everything.
- 8:44Speaker 2: She's beautiful.
- 8:46Speaker 1: She's gorgeous. They grew up super, super poor and super...
- 8:52Speaker 1: They're very progressive people. Catholic like diehards like but they're
- 8:58Speaker 1: so progressive like sometimes I used to worry like I
- 9:02Speaker 1: wonder you know like I grew up in like the
- 9:04Speaker 1: Catholic Church so like there's like extremes on both sides
- 9:07Speaker 1: but to see like older people grow up like in
- 9:10Speaker 1: Mexico come to like America like I don't know it's
- 9:13Speaker 1: like so beautiful and I think that's what gave me
- 9:16Speaker 1: my sense of like I'm a big I'm a big giver,
- 9:19Speaker 1: but that's because of my abuela. Like, I really say
- 9:22Speaker 1: it's because of her. Like, she had no dolls growing up.
- 9:26Speaker 1: She had no, they got no treats growing up. They
- 9:28Speaker 1: both have 12, at least 12 siblings each.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Wow.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Like, they grew up very poor. So then, you know,
- 9:33Speaker 1: she got like one doll one time and she gave
- 9:35Speaker 1: it away the same day to like the little girl
- 9:36Speaker 1: in her neighborhood. So I'm like, I'm so, I'm so like,
- 9:40Speaker 1: privileged so I tried as much as I can to
- 9:43Speaker 1: just like give give it everyone's like oh that's so
- 9:44Speaker 1: sweet I'm like no it's not me.
- 9:46Speaker 2: It's her like it's her she raised you yeah and
- 9:48Speaker 2: she's grounded you yeah you come off you're very.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Grounded I would feel like I would be disrespecting her
- 9:53Speaker 1: because of how she raised us and you know they're
- 9:57Speaker 1: still like the most youthful people like my brother has
- 10:00Speaker 1: a baby and she lives in the house too so
- 10:01Speaker 1: we've got like four generations in the house that's cool
- 10:04Speaker 1: yeah and so like my abuela with my niece and
- 10:07Speaker 1: they're like and my well i was like it's her
- 10:09Speaker 1: favorite person like he's like the most incredible man so
- 10:13Speaker 1: yeah i honestly like i wanted to touch on that
- 10:15Speaker 1: when you mentioned my growing up because they're such a
- 10:18Speaker 1: big part of.
- 10:18Speaker 2: It wow they're awesome that's really cool that's really really
- 10:23Speaker 2: cool and it's great to have that sense of grounding
- 10:25Speaker 2: especially in like the entertainment and yes because it's It's
- 10:30Speaker 2: not as stable. So superficial. Yeah, it can be superficial
- 10:32Speaker 2: at times, but just having that centerpiece to hold it together.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I think that's also why I never felt like our
- 10:39Speaker 1: family was, I didn't even think we were like influential
- 10:43Speaker 1: at all. Because I mean, I was like, my cousins
- 10:46Speaker 1: don't let me get away with anything. They don't care
- 10:48Speaker 1: that I act. They don't care what I do, where
- 10:51Speaker 1: I live. They literally like, they bully me so bad.
- 10:56Speaker 1: I remember I tried to do karate once. I stopped
- 10:58Speaker 1: after two lessons. I still never hear the end of
- 11:02Speaker 1: it because the karate man wanted to take a video
- 11:04Speaker 1: of me doing it and I was making the sounds.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Every time my cousins see me, they're like, ha, ha.
- 11:08Speaker 2: I'm like, I just want to humble you. I'm literally
- 11:11Speaker 2: all right.
- 11:12Speaker 1: It's fine, whatever. It doesn't even matter.
- 11:15Speaker 2: I love it.
- 11:16Speaker 1: So they're very, yeah. Such a beautiful dynamic.
- 11:19Speaker 2: It's great, but it sets you apart, though. It sets
- 11:21Speaker 2: you apart, your personality, and what you bring to the
- 11:24Speaker 2: industry to me. I mean, I think that's a huge
- 11:26Speaker 2: part of it. Do you know what I mean?
- 11:27Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it definitely feels like, even though I do act,
- 11:31Speaker 1: I've never really felt like I was... any like different
- 11:35Speaker 1: if anything I still feel like I'm trying to like
- 11:38Speaker 1: almost like prove myself in a way because I feel
- 11:41Speaker 1: so normal with my family and like I am normal
- 11:45Speaker 1: I'm so normal and I'm like super weird and like
- 11:47Speaker 1: it doesn't I don't know I had no acting friends
- 11:50Speaker 1: like for the longest time like everyone who was asking
- 11:53Speaker 1: me what it's like being in the industry like that
- 11:56Speaker 1: I'm like I don't really know like I know what
- 11:58Speaker 1: it's like to love my craft and I know what
- 11:59Speaker 1: it's like to work on a set but I don't
- 12:01Speaker 1: really know like the same as a child actor who
- 12:06Speaker 1: was only around the industry and the entertainment business and
- 12:09Speaker 1: only had acting friends and only had... And I think
- 12:12Speaker 1: that does help me a lot when it comes to
- 12:14Speaker 1: just how I enter the world, especially since I was
- 12:16Speaker 1: acting as a child. I still had such a normal childhood.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Childhood, yes.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Like, the normalest childhood.
- 12:21Speaker 2: And also your dad is David Justice, like, one of
- 12:24Speaker 2: the most famous baseball players on the planet. And to
- 12:27Speaker 2: piggyback off of that. So when did you... know or
- 12:33Speaker 2: understand the impact that your dad had? When did you
- 12:35Speaker 2: know that dad was famous, that he was this MLB player?
- 12:39Speaker 2: So walk us through that realization.
- 12:41Speaker 1: I mean, I knew he was somebody. I don't think
- 12:45Speaker 1: I ever stopped to think about it any farther than like, okay,
- 12:50Speaker 1: you probably I guess you played baseball. I never thought
- 12:54Speaker 1: to keep going because he was just a dad. I
- 12:57Speaker 1: remember we have this bat in my house. It's like
- 12:59Speaker 1: a broken bat right down the middle. And I just
- 13:01Speaker 1: know that growing up, I just knew that that was
- 13:04Speaker 1: the bat that my dad broke when he hit a ball.
- 13:06Speaker 1: And so that didn't even equate to me. That's a
- 13:08Speaker 1: really cool thing to do. So I didn't really think
- 13:11Speaker 1: about it. And I remember every year we'd go to
- 13:13Speaker 1: spring training and we'd be going to these like events
- 13:16Speaker 1: and these things in like Atlanta, in Florida. And for me,
- 13:19Speaker 1: it was just like the most fun time with my
- 13:20Speaker 1: mom and my brother and like going to water parks
- 13:23Speaker 1: and doing tie-dye t-shirts and picking fruits off trees. And
- 13:27Speaker 1: I don't think it really settled in until my dad
- 13:30Speaker 1: was taking me back to school shopping. And my dad
- 13:33Speaker 1: has this, I just want to throw this in there.
- 13:34Speaker 1: He has this like, he had this really beautiful mentality
- 13:37Speaker 1: for me growing up that I mean, I loved because
- 13:40Speaker 1: I'm like the girliest of girlies. But he told me
- 13:43Speaker 1: that if it's books... makeup or for nails, he'll cover
- 13:47Speaker 1: it all no matter what.
- 13:49Speaker 2: I was like, look, thank you, Mr. Justice.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I was like, what do you mean he'll cover it?
- 13:54Speaker 1: He forgot about that promise now, but it worked for
- 13:57Speaker 1: a long time.
- 13:58Speaker 2: It's on camera now.
- 14:01Speaker 1: He was like, books are for your enrichment, makeup and nails.
- 14:04Speaker 1: You're you. You should have that. And so that just
- 14:07Speaker 1: reminded me because he would always take me back to
- 14:09Speaker 1: school shopping, him and my mom, and they would let me,
- 14:12Speaker 1: I'm a Gemini, so I change every Every year I
- 14:15Speaker 1: need a new wardrobe. My, my room, my room changes.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Is that like a standard Gemini traits?
- 14:20Speaker 1: I'm very, yeah. I'm very like, um, my friends have
- 14:24Speaker 1: this saying that I, Raquel will look physically, physically different.
- 14:27Speaker 1: My face will look physically different every year. Like I don't,
- 14:30Speaker 1: I don't even know what I look like to be
- 14:31Speaker 1: honest because every photo that I have of myself looks
- 14:33Speaker 1: so different. Okay. So I shift a lot and my
- 14:36Speaker 1: parents have always, like I've gone through four room changes. They,
- 14:38Speaker 1: they'll let me paint my walls. Like, They'll let me
- 14:40Speaker 1: get in there with a brush.
- 14:42Speaker 2: That is interesting.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and color swaths and, like, let me figure it out.
- 14:45Speaker 1: But he took me to the mall, and we were
- 14:48Speaker 1: getting shoes, and this guy came up to him, and
- 14:52Speaker 1: he was like, are you David Justice? And I had
- 14:54Speaker 1: heard that before, and I was like, yeah. And he
- 14:56Speaker 1: was like, yeah, I am. And he was like, oh,
- 14:58Speaker 1: my God. And he pointed down to the dog he had,
- 15:00Speaker 1: and he was like, this is David Justice. Stop. He
- 15:02Speaker 1: was like, I named my dog after you.
- 15:05Speaker 2: And you're like, a dog named David? I was like, what? Yeah, like,
- 15:09Speaker 2: a dog named David?
- 15:11Speaker 1: I'm sorry, but, like, imagine, like, David. Yeah, David, David.
- 15:14Speaker 1: So that's how I knew. I'm like, okay, like, that's
- 15:16Speaker 1: how I knew. You must be somebody because the name you're, like,
- 15:19Speaker 1: animal after somebody. And the name isn't even something like, like,
- 15:23Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Hercules or something, yes. I don't know.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Even Bruce. Like, that's, like, a dog name, I guess. But, like,
- 15:28Speaker 1: it's David. Right. That's, like, such a human name.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Right.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 15:32Speaker 2: It made me laugh.
- 15:33Speaker 1: So, and walking through, when he got into the Hall
- 15:36Speaker 1: of Fame and he was doing the whole thing, walking
- 15:38Speaker 1: through Atlanta and New York with him.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Like, we went to like a.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Little restaurant bar in New York when I was like 13.
- 15:43Speaker 1: I was only there because I wanted to see Hamilton.
- 15:46Speaker 1: So that was my whole idea of the trip. But
- 15:49Speaker 1: we couldn't even get through. I had never seen that before.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I think growing up in Poway, I was so not
- 15:54Speaker 1: used to it. So you go to these hot spots
- 15:56Speaker 1: where he was so known and so like loved. And
- 15:59Speaker 1: I was like, you walk ahead of us.
- 16:01Speaker 2: I don't want. So how did that make you feel?
- 16:03Speaker 1: It was honestly, like, fun.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Okay.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it made me look at him like.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Okay, you somebody. No, no, no. Okay, period. Okay, period.
- 16:11Speaker 2: You got a little juice. Well, okay.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I guess you're a little cooler now.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Okay.
- 16:16Speaker 1: But, again, I didn't, I don't know, I did not think,
- 16:19Speaker 1: I was always in my own world. Like, I literally
- 16:23Speaker 1: only existed here. So, however it fit into my little world,
- 16:27Speaker 1: that's just what I thought about it. It made me
- 16:29Speaker 1: feel a little bit like, We have a little bit
- 16:32Speaker 1: of a spotlight on us, especially because before I'd even
- 16:36Speaker 1: before I go to school every day, like my abuela
- 16:38Speaker 1: would pull me aside first and she'd do like the
- 16:39Speaker 1: sign of a cross. Like every time I leave her,
- 16:41Speaker 1: she goes here, here, here. She'll pray over me. And
- 16:43Speaker 1: then she'll say, you know, like you carry you carry
- 16:46Speaker 1: us everywhere you go. And like my dad, too, he'll
- 16:49Speaker 1: just tell me like, you know, you carry that justice
- 16:51Speaker 1: name everywhere you go, no matter like what situation you're in.
- 16:55Speaker 1: at a lunch table, at a dinner table, at an event,
- 16:57Speaker 1: at like a sleepover, literally like the simplest things. Don't
- 17:00Speaker 1: act crazy on the internet. Don't take crazy photos. Don't like,
- 17:03Speaker 1: everything was very, you, and since I'm lucky enough to
- 17:07Speaker 1: know that I wanted to be an actress since I
- 17:08Speaker 1: was 11, he also would be like, you are gonna,
- 17:11Speaker 1: you're gonna do great things. So don't, you need to
- 17:15Speaker 1: act accordingly. You need to carry us with like respect
- 17:17Speaker 1: and like, That really settled into me really young. And
- 17:21Speaker 1: they only had to tell me like a few times.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Like that never left, it still has never left my brain.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:27Speaker 1: So I think that's more what it did for me. Yeah.
- 17:29Speaker 2: So what do fans see when they look at David Justice?
- 17:33Speaker 2: And who's the dad that you and your family know
- 17:36Speaker 2: at home?
- 17:38Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. Okay. That's a good question actually. I
- 17:42Speaker 1: think when they see him, he's very like, he's so charismatic. Mm-hmm.
- 17:47Speaker 1: He's very funny. Anytime we're at a family dinner with
- 17:52Speaker 1: other people, like he's going to command the table. He
- 17:54Speaker 1: taught me how to talk to people. He taught me
- 17:57Speaker 1: how to like enter the world. So, yeah, I think
- 18:00Speaker 1: he's very he's very outspoken at.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Home.
- 18:04Speaker 1: He's not different at all. But the difference is, is
- 18:07Speaker 1: that like as I've grown, I can almost like I
- 18:13Speaker 1: explain this. He always says that me and him have
- 18:15Speaker 1: the same brain. Like, out of all his kids, like,
- 18:17Speaker 1: me and him have the same brain. So, like, not
- 18:20Speaker 1: saying we're, like, the most alike, but our brains are
- 18:22Speaker 1: the same. Like, they work the same. And so I
- 18:26Speaker 1: think the difference really is, like, when it comes to me,
- 18:30Speaker 1: we've had so many debates over the years. Like, I'm
- 18:33Speaker 1: the person who's going to sit across from him, and
- 18:35Speaker 1: we're going to go back and forth.
- 18:36Speaker 2: That's me and my dad.
- 18:37Speaker 1: For, like, an hour. Yes. we both are like, you're
- 18:39Speaker 1: not going to get me because I know what you're thinking.
- 18:41Speaker 1: And now I'm going to go around that. And it's
- 18:43Speaker 1: like this constant, like a war of minds. And it's
- 18:46Speaker 1: really fun, honestly, like to me sometimes, like to just,
- 18:50Speaker 1: he's always laughing at the party at any Christmas party.
- 18:52Speaker 1: His friends will like tell my mom, like, oh, we
- 18:54Speaker 1: love when Raquel's around because like she'll let David have it. Like,
- 18:57Speaker 1: and it's like, I do, but obviously in a very
- 19:00Speaker 1: loving way. It's not serious, but he's so that, and
- 19:04Speaker 1: I'm so this.
- 19:05Speaker 2: So yeah.
- 19:06Speaker 1: I'm always poking at him, making fun of him, and
- 19:09Speaker 1: he has to respect it because he's like, that's all me.
- 19:13Speaker 1: That's all me.
- 19:14Speaker 2: It's me.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Yeah. Even the jokes I make are him. And then
- 19:18Speaker 1: I heard him make a joke the other day, and
- 19:19Speaker 1: I was like, oh, that was actually kind of funny.
- 19:21Speaker 1: And you're like, no, literally, that was good.
- 19:25Speaker 2: That was a good joke. That's hilarious. So if you
- 19:29Speaker 2: could describe your relationship with dad in one word, what
- 19:32Speaker 2: would you do?
- 19:33Speaker 1: Eventful.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Eventful, yeah.
- 19:36Speaker 1: I mean, even like, we're both very adventurous. Like, my
- 19:39Speaker 1: dad is like me in really a lot of ways. Like,
- 19:42Speaker 1: with his mom too, like, their relationship, he understands the
- 19:46Speaker 1: way that I am in a lot of ways. He
- 19:48Speaker 1: kind of has just let me, flourish now. Like he'll
- 19:52Speaker 1: tell me, you know, you're 22 now. So I'm not
- 19:55Speaker 1: here to get you in trouble. I'm not here to whatever.
- 19:57Speaker 1: I'm just here to support you when you need me.
- 19:59Speaker 1: So go off into the world. And I'm a big traveler.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I'm a big solo person. Like I love my people.
- 20:05Speaker 1: I love my friends, my family. But sometimes I cannot
- 20:08Speaker 1: call you for a week. It just won't happen for me. Oh, okay.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Sometimes I, like, I get so in my world. I
- 20:14Speaker 1: have such, like, I don't know. I'm very, I have
- 20:17Speaker 1: so many people who I love and who would probably
- 20:19Speaker 1: love to, like, talk to me all the time. But
- 20:20Speaker 1: if I talked to every single one, I wouldn't be
- 20:23Speaker 1: able to.
- 20:23Speaker 2: You'd be drained.
- 20:24Speaker 1: I wouldn't even have time to think. I just, I'm
- 20:26Speaker 1: so lucky I have such a big circle. Like, all
- 20:29Speaker 1: my cousins I'm so close with. And, like, a huge
- 20:32Speaker 1: Mexican family that I'm so close with. So many friends
- 20:34Speaker 1: I'm so close with. It's, like. My dad has a
- 20:37Speaker 1: really great understanding that because I don't call him for
- 20:40Speaker 1: a certain amount of days does not mean the love
- 20:42Speaker 1: is lost. He gives me a lot of grace and
- 20:44Speaker 1: it makes it so easy to call him. And so
- 20:47Speaker 1: easy to FaceTime him. Yeah, and then when we do,
- 20:49Speaker 1: we talk for like 40 minutes. Yeah, so I will
- 20:52Speaker 1: say that I really appreciate that about him. He understands
- 20:55Speaker 1: when I need space, it's nothing personal.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Well, you said you're twins. We are.
- 20:59Speaker 1: You're twins. Yeah, he told me, he was like, I
- 21:01Speaker 1: used to just go off and not come home for
- 21:04Speaker 1: a certain amount of time. And I'm like, that's kind
- 21:06Speaker 1: of me. I lived in Europe for seven months, and
- 21:08Speaker 1: it was the most amazing experience ever. And they only
- 21:11Speaker 1: came to visit like once. And that was like cool
- 21:13Speaker 1: for us. He was like, you're out here in the world.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Just keep trying to do your thing. And he instilled
- 21:19Speaker 1: a very strong sense of confidence in me too. That's beautiful.
- 21:22Speaker 2: So what's one piece of advice before we get into
- 21:24Speaker 2: the fishbowl that you have taken from your dad? That
- 21:28Speaker 2: he's giving you a lesson, a life lesson, anything. I
- 21:31Speaker 2: actually have it.
- 21:31Speaker 1: I have it off the bat because this is a
- 21:33Speaker 1: good one.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Okay.
- 21:34Speaker 1: So, well... First off, off the bat, he's told me
- 21:38Speaker 1: since I was literally three, men are purses. Which is like,
- 21:42Speaker 1: let me explain this. Let me explain this. Basically saying,
- 21:46Speaker 1: he's never let me ever believe that I've ever needed anybody. Anybody.
- 21:52Speaker 1: He has always been like, you are the prize. You
- 21:57Speaker 1: are so full in your own self, in your own identity.
- 22:02Speaker 1: And he was like, if anything, they'll probably just bring
- 22:06Speaker 1: stuff you may not want. So men are purses. They're like,
- 22:09Speaker 1: he was like, you're going to have a purse you like.
- 22:11Speaker 1: And then if you don't like it anymore, there's going
- 22:13Speaker 1: to be another purse. You can go buy another purse.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Like he's never made me feel like I needed anybody.
- 22:18Speaker 1: And I think that's maybe why I didn't even start
- 22:20Speaker 1: dating until I was like 18. And yeah. And I,
- 22:24Speaker 1: and I, I don't really accept any type of craziness.
- 22:29Speaker 1: And sometimes I need to have a little bit more
- 22:33Speaker 1: patience actually, because I'm like, Like, I don't understand why
- 22:36Speaker 1: you're acting like that. But then I'm like, okay, we're
- 22:38Speaker 1: so young. So I try to have a little bit
- 22:40Speaker 1: more patience. But, yeah, I've just never felt like I
- 22:43Speaker 1: had to have anybody to be fool. But the piece
- 22:47Speaker 1: of advice that he gave me that I really love,
- 22:49Speaker 1: it was there's three types of people in the world,
- 22:51Speaker 1: three types of groups in the world. There's a group
- 22:53Speaker 1: who's going to love you no matter what, who's going
- 22:55Speaker 1: to ride for you no matter what. You're never going
- 22:58Speaker 1: to have to, like, question their support. And he was like,
- 23:01Speaker 1: that's me, your mom, your family, your closest friends. Um,
- 23:05Speaker 1: and like even like supporters who just really want to
- 23:08Speaker 1: see you do good. There's going to be some people
- 23:09Speaker 1: who just genuinely want to see you do good. And
- 23:11Speaker 1: then he was like, and there's going to be one
- 23:14Speaker 1: group who just never wants to see you do good.
- 23:16Speaker 1: He was like, there's, there's nothing you can do. There's
- 23:19Speaker 1: no amount of good that you can do to sway them.
- 23:21Speaker 1: There's no amount of, you know, convincing or charisma or
- 23:24Speaker 1: they're just not going to want to like you. And
- 23:27Speaker 1: so they won't. And he was like, and then with those,
- 23:29Speaker 1: you literally just let them not like you. Like, just
- 23:31Speaker 1: let them go. And then the third are the people
- 23:33Speaker 1: who are on the fence. And you win them over
- 23:35Speaker 1: by just being you. Like, you don't do anything extra.
- 23:38Speaker 1: You just show up in the world as, like, a
- 23:40Speaker 1: good person. And those people will love you. And if
- 23:43Speaker 1: they choose not to, then they just fall into the
- 23:46Speaker 1: second portion. So that's never really made me, like, a
- 23:50Speaker 1: people pleaser.
- 23:50Speaker 2: I think I love.
- 23:52Speaker 1: I love people and I love my people and I
- 23:54Speaker 1: love being kind. But when people don't like me and
- 23:58Speaker 1: it happens, honestly, like when he said it helped me
- 24:01Speaker 1: so much because sometimes people just won't like you. And
- 24:03Speaker 1: I used to struggle with wondering, like, what did I do?
- 24:06Speaker 1: What did I do? And then you realize, oh, it's
- 24:08Speaker 1: not even about me. It's so not about me. So
- 24:11Speaker 1: I now at my age, just graduating college, like I'm
- 24:14Speaker 1: so glad that that's so instilled in me because it
- 24:17Speaker 1: doesn't my energy is not being wasted on anything. you know,
- 24:20Speaker 1: like insecurity on that. It just kind of is what
- 24:23Speaker 1: it is.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Woo! I needed to hear that. Okay, we all need
- 24:26Speaker 2: to hear that. Look, I'm like, wow. Great piece of advice.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Very good. Because I'm like, I wish I... Men are purses.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Men are purses. And then even categorizing people because we
- 24:35Speaker 2: talked about this before. We have been the queens of people-pleasing.
- 24:38Speaker 2: And just to even break that.
- 24:41Speaker 1: As a woman, I think you're already trained.
- 24:42Speaker 2: It's so natural. But to reverse it, which is why
- 24:46Speaker 2: it's good that it's been instilled in you early. To
- 24:49Speaker 2: reverse that takes practice. It takes therapy because you have
- 24:52Speaker 2: to unpack why you got to that point. So I'm
- 24:55Speaker 2: so happy to hear that your dad has already just.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Yeah, he's got some. He had some great.
- 24:59Speaker 2: He had some great gems. Look, Mr. Justice. We'd be
- 25:01Speaker 2: driving somewhere. Thank you. Thanks, Dad. Okay, so we're going
- 25:05Speaker 2: to transition into the fishbowl.
- 25:08Speaker 1: I'm excited for this part.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Me too. Okay, so the reason why we have a fishbowl.
- 25:12Speaker 2: A fishbowl is transparent. You can see what's inside. And
- 25:16Speaker 2: when we think about legacy, so much of it is
- 25:18Speaker 2: viewed from the outside, right? The name, the success, the accomplishments,
- 25:22Speaker 2: but there's always more beneath the surface. The pressure, the purpose,
- 25:25Speaker 2: the choices, the experiences that shape who we all become.
- 25:30Speaker 2: So inside this bowl are different parts of the journey.
- 25:33Speaker 2: And whatever you pull, we talk about.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Okay? Okay.
- 25:36Speaker 2: And once it's out, it's out. So, Raquel, go ahead
- 25:39Speaker 2: and pick your first token, girl.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Yay, yay, yay.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Let's see what we got. I love that you're not looking.
- 25:45Speaker 1: I know. Yes.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Okay.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Got my first one.
- 25:48Speaker 2: You got it?
- 25:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Let's see what we got.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Hot takes.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Hot takes. This is Mariah's favorite. This is fun. All right.
- 25:56Speaker 2: You got hot takes? Okay. I got hot takes, but
- 25:58Speaker 2: we got to set the stage.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Okay. God, I'm trying to think of a hot take.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Because we got to... No, no. I'm a... Ask you,
- 26:03Speaker 2: and then we're gonna either agree, disagree, or it's complicated, okay?
- 26:10Speaker 1: What agree? Yeah, because sometimes it is complicated.
- 26:12Speaker 2: It can be complicated. It's not black and white. We
- 26:15Speaker 2: don't know. We can't just agree or disagree. You know,
- 26:17Speaker 2: there's a whole lot. I love hot takes. Let's see. Okay,
- 26:27Speaker 2: so you pulled hot takes. All right, so we all
- 26:30Speaker 2: have agree, disagree. It's complicated, right?
- 26:32Speaker 1: All right.
- 26:32Speaker 2: So let's do our first hot take statement. Sometimes your
- 26:37Speaker 2: last name can open the door, but make it harder
- 26:40Speaker 2: to prove you belong in the room. It can open
- 26:44Speaker 2: the door, you being David Justice's daughter, but it makes
- 26:48Speaker 2: it harder for you to prove that you belong because
- 26:50Speaker 2: people automatically assume that you don't belong. You agree?
- 26:52Speaker 1: Okay.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Agree and it's complete. All right. So explain.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Okay.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Okay.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Agree, because I definitely feel like it's another, your last
- 27:01Speaker 1: name and just like my family gives me a step up.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Just in the sense of like, they've been able to
- 27:07Speaker 1: support me. You know, like acting is expensive. And especially
- 27:10Speaker 1: when you're starting off so young. especially if you're not
- 27:12Speaker 1: booking super consistently. My mom used to drive me up
- 27:15Speaker 1: and down to LA like three times a week. Like
- 27:18Speaker 1: that's privileges that I got because my family supported me
- 27:22Speaker 1: and was able to financially be there for me. And
- 27:25Speaker 1: just having him tied onto it, I remember growing up,
- 27:27Speaker 1: I would have like meetings and he would come to
- 27:30Speaker 1: the meetings and then people on set loved him. So
- 27:32Speaker 1: then he'd sign some balls for them. And I didn't
- 27:34Speaker 1: get the job because of that, but it definitely felt like, okay,
- 27:39Speaker 1: There's an element to this that definitely opens doors. But
- 27:43Speaker 1: the reason I'll say it's complicated is because it doesn't
- 27:45Speaker 1: open a whole lot of doors in my industry. Just
- 27:47Speaker 1: because he's in a different industry. I would say that
- 27:50Speaker 1: his doors would have opened more for my brothers who
- 27:52Speaker 1: followed his footsteps in the sports industry. Whereas for me...
- 27:57Speaker 1: I actually don't like him to come to set until
- 27:59Speaker 1: I've established myself already a little bit. Like when I
- 28:02Speaker 1: did Dexter, it was my first time really being a
- 28:05Speaker 1: part of a bigger production as an adult, not a
- 28:07Speaker 1: little kid. So my mom was like, when can we come?
- 28:09Speaker 1: I'm like, not yet. In like two months.
- 28:12Speaker 2: You said not yet.
- 28:13Speaker 1: You can come visit, but I don't want anybody to know.
- 28:17Speaker 1: I'm sure if they looked it up, they could find out.
- 28:19Speaker 1: But I don't want anybody to know. I don't want
- 28:21Speaker 1: anyone to, I don't know. It's because my parents, I mean,
- 28:24Speaker 1: my dad is not going to be able to like
- 28:26Speaker 1: call a casting agent and be like, Let's get her
- 28:28Speaker 1: in the room. He has no sway, like, at all.
- 28:31Speaker 1: So I'm still very much, like, I'm hustling. Like, I
- 28:34Speaker 1: train very hard. I'm in class so, so much. Like,
- 28:38Speaker 1: four-hour classes, like, weekly. And I've definitely, oh, sorry. No, no,
- 28:43Speaker 1: you're good. I definitely would say that his, like, last
- 28:48Speaker 1: name and what it did for our family was able to, like,
- 28:51Speaker 1: even let me get this far in the sense of, like,
- 28:53Speaker 1: financial support. But I would say that I got this
- 28:56Speaker 1: far in the industry by just working at it. Working
- 28:59Speaker 1: at it, yeah. So even though I am kind of
- 29:02Speaker 1: like a nepo baby.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I am.
- 29:04Speaker 1: But it's weird because in my industry, not really. Because
- 29:08Speaker 1: he's not in it.
- 29:09Speaker 2: He's not in it at all.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I wish it would.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Open more doors. You're like, yeah, for sure. I think
- 29:16Speaker 2: it's important for viewers to understand that. We can all
- 29:21Speaker 2: agree that, yes, it has opened up doors.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Of course.
- 29:23Speaker 2: But it can only get you to a certain spot. Yeah,
- 29:25Speaker 2: what you do in the door is what matters.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Exactly. So that's great.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Yeah, at this point, it's, yeah, it's me.
- 29:31Speaker 2: You've earned, so all the accolades that we mentioned earlier,
- 29:35Speaker 2: you earned your right to be part of those. Absolutely. Amazing. Okay,
- 29:41Speaker 2: so let's do one more. Actors should keep more of
- 29:48Speaker 2: their personal lives private. Agree, disagree, or it's complicated.
- 29:55Speaker 1: That's such a good one.
- 29:57Speaker 2: It's a hot take.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Okay.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Agree, disagree. I'm going to go with agree. I'm going
- 30:02Speaker 2: to say agree.
- 30:04Speaker 1: But I do want to hear you're complicated because I
- 30:06Speaker 1: think we might have the same ideas.
- 30:07Speaker 2: So because of how the industry is now, I think
- 30:11Speaker 2: people want to know who you are. When I say personal,
- 30:13Speaker 2: I'm not talking about business. I'm talking about who you
- 30:16Speaker 2: are as a person. So if a casting director wants
- 30:19Speaker 2: to go on your page or whatever and see– who
- 30:22Speaker 2: Raquel is as a person outside of the actor part,
- 30:26Speaker 2: I think that is important. Telling your business and all
- 30:29Speaker 2: that kind of stuff and being all, no. But have
- 30:32Speaker 2: a presence of who you are and just like other
- 30:36Speaker 2: things that you are. You know what I'm saying? If
- 30:38Speaker 2: you are, if you, you know, I don't know, Surf.
- 30:42Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 30:42Speaker 1: I'm just saying.
- 30:43Speaker 2: You like animals. You know what I'm saying? Just who
- 30:45Speaker 2: you are. I think that serves a big... People want
- 30:47Speaker 2: to know, do I want to work with this person?
- 30:49Speaker 2: Do I want her to be on my set for
- 30:50Speaker 2: four and a half months?
- 30:51Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 30:51Speaker 2: And I think that's a part of it.
- 30:53Speaker 1: I agree with that. I agree with that.
- 30:54Speaker 2: I'm going to hear your take before I say mine. Yeah.
- 30:56Speaker 1: I agree with that. I think when I heard the question,
- 30:58Speaker 1: I more thought of like... More of like your intimate life.
- 31:01Speaker 1: I know that in this current day, social media is
- 31:03Speaker 1: such a thing. And we have a lot of influencers
- 31:05Speaker 1: now too who... they kind of open the doors to
- 31:09Speaker 1: fans having like a really like intimate part of you
- 31:12Speaker 1: because influencers are able, like that's what they do. They
- 31:14Speaker 1: let you into their everyday world, their struggles, all that stuff.
- 31:17Speaker 1: And I think sometimes that gets kind of murky on
- 31:20Speaker 1: the line between like actors aren't influencers. So they don't,
- 31:24Speaker 1: in my opinion, I don't feel like anyone owes anybody
- 31:27Speaker 1: any sort of, you know, about your personal life. And
- 31:31Speaker 1: I think sometimes recent, like as of the recent days
- 31:34Speaker 1: and the recent social media craze, people feel entitled to
- 31:37Speaker 1: certain aspects of celebrities' lives. And I was going to
- 31:40Speaker 1: bring up the topic of like Zendaya and Tom Holland's
- 31:42Speaker 1: wedding because like, hey, I love you guys.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Love you guys.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Literally, I'm the biggest Spider-Man fan and Zendaya fan. I
- 31:49Speaker 1: literally had hope in acting because her name in Shake
- 31:52Speaker 1: It Up was Raquel. So I was like, make it work.
- 31:55Speaker 1: I'm going to make it. Make it work. Absolutely.
- 31:59Speaker 2: I'm next.
- 32:00Speaker 1: And I love Tom Holland. I've literally watched Spider-Man Homecoming
- 32:03Speaker 1: 17 times in theaters. So, I'm not exaggerating. So anyways,
- 32:07Speaker 1: love you guys. But their wedding, a lot of people
- 32:10Speaker 1: had a lot of problems with them not.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Sharing any photos.
- 32:13Speaker 1: I'm like, it's so not your business. Like, it's so
- 32:16Speaker 1: not your relationship. And I think that's where I'm like,
- 32:19Speaker 1: maybe especially now, we have to be more... Like, we
- 32:23Speaker 1: have to hold our things more closer to our chest
- 32:25Speaker 1: and keep that for ourselves.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Absolutely. And I do agree. I think there's a balance.
- 32:29Speaker 2: There definitely is. Life is about balance. I just, I
- 32:32Speaker 2: don't believe in the art of oversharing.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Yes.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Because then what do you keep close to yourself? And
- 32:37Speaker 2: then too, do you, and again, you're an actress, you're
- 32:39Speaker 2: an actress. I'm not in this space. But when someone
- 32:41Speaker 2: does come to your Instagram and see something that they
- 32:44Speaker 2: may not like, let's say you post dogs and the
- 32:47Speaker 2: casting director likes cats. But I'm saying something like that,
- 32:53Speaker 2: does that hurt you? Even though you're qualified, you're talented,
- 32:56Speaker 2: do you think that could potentially hurt you? Obviously the
- 32:59Speaker 2: dogs and cats, right? But something along those lines, if
- 33:01Speaker 2: they see something where they're like, eh, now I don't
- 33:04Speaker 2: want to work with you. Does that happen?
- 33:07Speaker 1: I would love to know too, honestly.
- 33:11Speaker 2: More so I would say just of basically showing who
- 33:14Speaker 2: you are. Like if I like to cook, Like showing
- 33:16Speaker 2: like my cooking series or something like that. I'm not
- 33:18Speaker 2: talking about like. Yeah, the real.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Yeah. So I struggle with social media sometimes because, you know,
- 33:24Speaker 1: you have to have it as an actress, like especially now.
- 33:27Speaker 1: That's so important in marketing and like marketing yourself. But
- 33:30Speaker 1: I like actually hate. Posting?
- 33:32Speaker 2: Posting, yeah. It's weird. It's hard. It's hard to create
- 33:36Speaker 2: a reel.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I'm like looking at it like, I know. Like literally,
- 33:40Speaker 1: do I delete this now? I know.
- 33:41Speaker 2: And you're probably, you're so busy, you know, editing audition tapes. Exactly.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Do a reel too. Now I gotta like put together
- 33:48Speaker 1: a curated post to show that I do cool stuff.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:52Speaker 1: There is fun, there's a fun aspect to it, but
- 33:55Speaker 1: definitely like, it's a little stressful. Like, growing up, I
- 33:58Speaker 1: didn't think that The social media was that big of, like,
- 34:01Speaker 1: a factor in it. But it is. It does. It
- 34:03Speaker 1: very much is. I think just showing your life, I think,
- 34:06Speaker 1: is okay. Showing, like, what you like to do and,
- 34:08Speaker 1: you know, just, like, what you look like on a
- 34:11Speaker 1: given Tuesday or, I think, showing different hairstyles you could do.
- 34:14Speaker 1: That's more what I use it as. I use my
- 34:15Speaker 1: social media kind of as a lookbook. Yes. Like, oh,
- 34:17Speaker 1: if you need me in this, this is what I
- 34:18Speaker 1: look like doing this. And here's a picture of me
- 34:20Speaker 1: and a horse. I love a horse.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:22Speaker 1: I like to travel. I have, like, pictures from all
- 34:24Speaker 1: my broad trips and stuff like that.
- 34:26Speaker 2: And I think that's great advice, too, just for anyone watching. Yeah,
- 34:29Speaker 2: I think that's a good indicator of people. They're like, oh,
- 34:31Speaker 2: you know, she's cool. She likes, you know, she's chill.
- 34:33Speaker 2: She likes horses. You know, we can vibe with her.
- 34:35Speaker 2: I think that's what I'm hoping that they're looking at.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:38Speaker 2: I agree. Very good. Okay, so anyone watching who is aspiring? Balance.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Balance is key. Okay, so let's dig back into the fishbowl, girl.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Let's pull our next topic. Let's do it. Oh, I'm sorry. No,
- 34:52Speaker 2: you're good. Okay, I have my next topic.
- 34:56Speaker 1: All right, what we got? Pressure. Pressure. Okay.
- 35:00Speaker 2: All right, let's see it.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Thank you.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Thank you, my love. All right. All right, let's do it.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Let's go through. I'm going to do three from here.
- 35:11Speaker 2: I'm going to do three from here. Okay. So you
- 35:13Speaker 2: chose acting. Did you feel like you were choosing something
- 35:17Speaker 2: that was completely yours?
- 35:18Speaker 1: Yes. Yes. Everyone in my family are all athletes, like,
- 35:22Speaker 1: even my cousins. They are all soccer players, softball players. Yeah,
- 35:27Speaker 1: my brothers were both, like, All-Americans. Like, they played basketball.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Like, football, soccer, baseball. They did everything. I also did, too.
- 35:37Speaker 2: What sport?
- 35:37Speaker 1: Like, not to, like... Volleyball, soccer, basketball. I did softball, basketball, soccer,
- 35:43Speaker 1: and volleyball. And gymnastics and dance. And dance is a sport.
- 35:47Speaker 1: It is.
- 35:47Speaker 2: It's absolutely a sport.
- 35:48Speaker 1: It's one of the hardest.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Absolutely a sport.
- 35:50Speaker 1: And gymnastics is one of the hardest, too. And I
- 35:52Speaker 1: don't want any flack on saying that. People need to
- 35:55Speaker 1: give them their rewards. Yes, absolutely. But, yeah, I think
- 35:59Speaker 1: I tried all the sports. And I really enjoyed it.
- 36:01Speaker 1: And I'm actually very good. I'm a very good athletic person.
- 36:05Speaker 1: I'm a good athletic person. When my brothers had like
- 36:09Speaker 1: their football games and it was halftime, I'd be like, oh,
- 36:11Speaker 1: is it intermission? I would accidentally say stuff like that. Like,
- 36:14Speaker 1: that's how I am. But I'm very I'm very athletic
- 36:17Speaker 1: and I was very good at soccer. I played for
- 36:19Speaker 1: like 10 years. I was very good at basketball, softball. Man.
- 36:24Speaker 2: How are you going to mess up on softball, Raquel?
- 36:27Speaker 2: Softball is hard, though.
- 36:28Speaker 1: No, I wasn't bad. My team sucked.
- 36:30Speaker 2: Oh, they sucked. She said it wasn't a me problem.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Your dad is MLB, and he was like, you can't
- 36:35Speaker 2: mess up on softball. Okay, okay.
- 36:37Speaker 1: My team sucked so bad, and I'm a winner. Oh, man.
- 36:40Speaker 1: If we're not winning... I'm like, dad, I'm done.
- 36:43Speaker 2: She said, I'm a winner.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Because you know what? It's not me.
- 36:46Speaker 2: It's them. She said it's not me. It's them.
- 36:48Speaker 1: I'm like, I don't even like it enough to continue.
- 36:50Speaker 1: I wasn't even like obsessed with it.
- 36:52Speaker 2: She said it's not me.
- 36:52Speaker 1: It's them. No. I love soccer though.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Period.
- 36:54Speaker 1: I love volleyball, but that hurts really bad. But no, yeah,
- 36:58Speaker 1: I tried all the sports and I really liked them.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Dance was my favorite, clearly. And I did that for
- 37:02Speaker 1: the longest time. I did like ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap,
- 37:06Speaker 1: hip hop. Yeah. But it was always never going to
- 37:10Speaker 1: be that. It was always going to be acting. Again,
- 37:13Speaker 1: I keep bringing up reading, but that's because that's the
- 37:15Speaker 1: reason I got into acting. My imagination was so honed
- 37:19Speaker 1: from the moment. I had such a good memorization skill.
- 37:22Speaker 1: I have like a baby video of me in diapers
- 37:24Speaker 1: and I'm like maybe three. And I'm reading my mom
- 37:27Speaker 1: a whole Pinkalicious book. And I'm asking my mom, am
- 37:29Speaker 1: I reading that? And she was like, no, you memorized
- 37:32Speaker 1: me reading it to you. And you knew when I
- 37:34Speaker 1: would turn pages. Like I would just memorize it. And
- 37:36Speaker 1: I'm literally reading it to her. And I realize I'm
- 37:38Speaker 1: not reading because sometimes I'd continue while I'm looking at her.
- 37:40Speaker 1: And I'd continue saying it. And so I think ever
- 37:43Speaker 1: since I was like the littlest of girls, I just–
- 37:45Speaker 1: I never, that was my thing. Like I love to paint,
- 37:48Speaker 1: I love to draw. I used to make movies with
- 37:50Speaker 1: my cousins. I used to like write novels when I
- 37:53Speaker 1: was like literally in third grade and they would have
- 37:55Speaker 1: me go read them to the eighth graders. So even
- 37:57Speaker 1: though I loved sports and I'm in a very sports family,
- 38:01Speaker 1: My brain was always super creative and like it wouldn't
- 38:04Speaker 1: have allowed for I truly think anything other than what
- 38:07Speaker 1: I do now. And it still doesn't. Like I try
- 38:10Speaker 1: other things. I'm good at them and I have fun
- 38:11Speaker 1: with them. But like it's nothing. Like I'm so left-sided
- 38:15Speaker 1: in my brain. Like my right side is like, girl,
- 38:17Speaker 1: good luck.
- 38:18Speaker 2: You say, wake it up, exercise it a little.
- 38:20Speaker 1: It needs to wake up.
- 38:21Speaker 2: It's a very actor thing.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Sometimes I'm like, wait, no, I need you in this scenario.
- 38:25Speaker 1: You need to work, honey.
- 38:26Speaker 2: You need to get together today.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:28Speaker 2: So have you ever walked into a room, it could
- 38:30Speaker 2: be a set or anything, where you felt like you
- 38:32Speaker 2: had to prove that I actually belong here?
- 38:38Speaker 1: Honestly, yes. I think when I'm on set, I kind
- 38:43Speaker 1: of go into my zone. My dad, again, he kind
- 38:46Speaker 1: of just told me, when you walk into a room,
- 38:50Speaker 1: own it, basically. So I'm always nervous. When I first
- 38:53Speaker 1: started acting, I was always nervous in the audition room
- 38:56Speaker 1: and beforehand. Second I got the role and I was
- 38:58Speaker 1: on that set, I would just be like, all right,
- 39:01Speaker 1: I'm excited. Like I would just turn all of it
- 39:03Speaker 1: into excitement. I'd be like, I just got to, I'm
- 39:04Speaker 1: here to do what I got to do. They hired me.
- 39:07Speaker 1: So clearly there's something I'm doing right. And I think
- 39:10Speaker 1: that I deserved that. Weirdly enough, I'm more nervous at
- 39:13Speaker 1: my acting studio. I feel like I have such a
- 39:15Speaker 1: great acting studio, the screen acting studio. Everyone there is
- 39:18Speaker 1: just so, they've really changed my entire perception on like
- 39:21Speaker 1: my craft and just transitioning from childhood acting to like
- 39:25Speaker 1: adult acting. But because I look up to everyone there
- 39:28Speaker 1: so much and my acting coaches, Kay and Erin, I
- 39:32Speaker 1: do feel like I wanna prove myself. I want to
- 39:35Speaker 1: prove that their belief in me is not misplaced. I
- 39:40Speaker 1: show up hungry and that's because they're not hiring me.
- 39:44Speaker 1: They don't have to. I want to show like, no,
- 39:47Speaker 1: I belong here. So I feel it more on that
- 39:50Speaker 1: scale rather than being on set. When I'm on set,
- 39:52Speaker 1: I'm like, This is because my hard work.
- 39:54Speaker 2: You're like, I'm here.
- 39:54Speaker 1: I got here because you did. I'm a winner.
- 39:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a winner.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm so competitive.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I can see that. It's so bad. But it's good
- 40:02Speaker 2: for what you do. You need it. I have a
- 40:03Speaker 2: song for you. Go ahead, girl. It's called I Was
- 40:05Speaker 2: Born a Winner. It's a reggae song. Have you ever
- 40:07Speaker 2: heard it? No, but I need that. Can we play?
- 40:09Speaker 2: Will we have copyright issues if we play it?
- 40:12Speaker 1: So I Was Born a Winner is for you.
- 40:16Speaker 2: The artist's name just left me, but it's called I
- 40:18Speaker 2: Was Born a Winner. I have one more question and
- 40:20Speaker 2: then we're going to move on. Go ahead, girl. What's
- 40:21Speaker 2: one experience in your life that reminded you that no
- 40:24Speaker 2: matter what you're born into, success, access, legacy, life still
- 40:28Speaker 2: happens to everybody?
- 40:31Speaker 1: That's really good.
- 40:32Speaker 2: Take a second if you need it.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Yeah, that's really good.
- 40:35Speaker 2: I love that question.
- 40:36Speaker 1: What's one experience... I have like like kind of two answers.
- 40:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:44Speaker 1: I think like the first one was like when I
- 40:48Speaker 1: was like bullied in high school. Like I was like
- 40:51Speaker 1: kind of like bullied for like a good two months.
- 40:53Speaker 1: And I had never just thought that could happen to
- 40:56Speaker 1: me because I was like everyone loves me. Like I
- 40:58Speaker 1: grew up In my family, every parent loved me. Every
- 41:02Speaker 1: teacher loved me. I was a big teacher's pet. I
- 41:04Speaker 1: would get us out of homework because they loved me
- 41:06Speaker 1: so much. And then I went to a new school
- 41:11Speaker 1: and people didn't like how happy I was. They would say,
- 41:13Speaker 1: why is she so happy? And I would get in
- 41:16Speaker 1: scenarios where I'm like, wait, why can't we just communicate
- 41:18Speaker 1: about this? And instead, it was very... That was very
- 41:22Speaker 1: hard for me at the time. But I wouldn't say
- 41:23Speaker 1: that's my answer.
- 41:24Speaker 2: In a really.
- 41:26Speaker 1: It sounds super superficial, but... My first breakup. Oh. Like,
- 41:32Speaker 1: my first breakup was kind of, like, messy boots. So, like...
- 41:35Speaker 1: How old were you?
- 41:36Speaker 2: I was 19.
- 41:36Speaker 1: Okay. But it wasn't, like, messy boots in the sense that, like,
- 41:41Speaker 1: either one of us did anything really bad. It just
- 41:43Speaker 1: was the way that it unfolded. Like, I lost friends.
- 41:49Speaker 1: And I didn't need those friends to begin with, though.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Especially in the way that I lost them. Yeah. But
- 41:54Speaker 1: I think that was the first time in my life
- 41:56Speaker 1: where I had... my confidence was, like, striked. Like, it, like, it,
- 42:02Speaker 1: not even just because of the breakup itself, because of
- 42:04Speaker 1: what it symbolized, because of how I was feeling, because
- 42:07Speaker 1: I knew we needed to break up. Like, it wasn't
- 42:09Speaker 1: like I wanted to stay. But how I felt was
- 42:11Speaker 1: a deeper thing. And then, you know, I'm in school,
- 42:14Speaker 1: so it's like, everyone's looking at you. We're still living
- 42:16Speaker 1: on campus. It's like, it felt, for the first time, like,
- 42:20Speaker 1: I was super out of my depth and I forgot
- 42:23Speaker 1: kind of who I was. And I had to, like,
- 42:25Speaker 1: go back home and, like, recenter myself a little bit. And, like,
- 42:28Speaker 1: go to therapy and like figure out certain things about
- 42:30Speaker 1: myself and so I'm so glad it happened because the
- 42:32Speaker 1: therapy wasn't even because of the breakup right it just
- 42:35Speaker 1: was like the thing to be like I knew I
- 42:37Speaker 1: needed to do this like I knew I needed to
- 42:38Speaker 1: go therapy so I think that was the moment where
- 42:41Speaker 1: I think the first moment you realize that you can
- 42:43Speaker 1: hurt people and even if it's unintentionally you you have
- 42:47Speaker 1: like the power to to act or to do something
- 42:51Speaker 1: where you don't even like assign that in Like, again,
- 42:54Speaker 1: it wasn't, like, nobody cheated. Nobody, we literally just should
- 42:57Speaker 1: not have been together. But just, like, I don't know.
- 43:00Speaker 1: There is something so weird about your first breakup.
- 43:02Speaker 2: The first breakup is hard. There is something so weird
- 43:04Speaker 2: about it. The first one is always hard.
- 43:06Speaker 1: It's, like, how to, it always, it sticks with you
- 43:08Speaker 1: a little bit.
- 43:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:09Speaker 1: There's a part of it that's, like, you never forget it. And, like,
- 43:12Speaker 1: even in moments still, I have a moment where I'm, like, oh. And, like,
- 43:15Speaker 1: I just remember certain things and then I'm, like, Wow. And, like,
- 43:18Speaker 1: it sits with you. And I think I'm really glad
- 43:20Speaker 1: I went to therapy. I'm really glad that I healed
- 43:22Speaker 1: from it the way I did. I think I healed
- 43:23Speaker 1: from it perfectly. I was very– I was not out
- 43:27Speaker 1: here the next day, like, trying to, like, numb it all.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Act like it didn't happen.
- 43:31Speaker 1: And my best friend, Lucky. You guys had her on
- 43:33Speaker 1: the podcast.
- 43:33Speaker 2: We love her. Hey, Lucky.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Yeah. Hey, Lucky. We love you, girl. I– this is
- 43:40Speaker 1: really funny. The minute we broke up, I went back
- 43:42Speaker 1: to my dorm. Mm-hmm. And I was trying not to
- 43:44Speaker 1: cry because she was like napping in her bed. And
- 43:46Speaker 1: I'm at like the desk. I'm like taking my jewelry off.
- 43:48Speaker 1: I'm like sniffling. And I hear her be like, what's
- 43:50Speaker 1: wrong with you? Like she's like in sleep. And I
- 43:53Speaker 1: was like, he broke up with me. And she just yells,
- 43:55Speaker 1: are you kidding me? And then I literally walked over
- 43:58Speaker 1: to like the bed and I laid on her. And
- 44:00Speaker 1: I'm like telling her all about it. And she's like
- 44:02Speaker 1: rubbing my back. And I'm like talking and talking, talking.
- 44:04Speaker 1: And I wait for her response. And I look up
- 44:06Speaker 1: and she's snoring. Because she was asleep. So I'm just
- 44:08Speaker 1: laying on her crying, and she just went back to sleep.
- 44:10Speaker 1: And I was like, that's lucky for you.
- 44:12Speaker 2: She was like, girl, bye. She said, you'll be all right.
- 44:16Speaker 2: You'll be all right.
- 44:17Speaker 1: In the middle of that, she was like, I'll talk.
- 44:19Speaker 2: You know what? You just get this out.
- 44:20Speaker 1: I'll get back to you. But she told me, she
- 44:22Speaker 1: was like, girl, you got two weeks to cry all
- 44:23Speaker 1: your tears out, and then we're getting back up. And
- 44:26Speaker 1: I was like, period.
- 44:27Speaker 2: Because I'm a winner.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Because I'm a winner. So yeah, probably that.
- 44:31Speaker 2: Freddie McGregor is the name of, is the artist. Freddie McGregor.
- 44:34Speaker 2: I was born a winner. We're going to listen to that.
- 44:36Speaker 2: Before we, before I have you pick another token, one
- 44:39Speaker 2: piece of advice for anyone who is experiencing heartbreak for
- 44:42Speaker 2: the first time.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Oh my God.
- 44:44Speaker 2: That you got, that you gained from your therapist. Yeah.
- 44:46Speaker 1: Have so much grace for yourself.
- 44:48Speaker 2: That's so good.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Have so much. And also, if it's the first time,
- 44:52Speaker 1: I don't know your situation, but I knew in mine, like,
- 44:55Speaker 1: she just it feels so heavy it feels like it
- 44:58Speaker 1: really feels like a death in your life because you're
- 45:00Speaker 1: so used to this person and then one day they're
- 45:02Speaker 1: just gone and you have to like understand that that's
- 45:05Speaker 1: a real thing like your grief is a real thing
- 45:07Speaker 1: and it's not just this like superficial thing because it's
- 45:10Speaker 1: like a breakup like I think people treat it sometimes
- 45:13Speaker 1: like oh you're just young and you just broke up
- 45:14Speaker 1: it's like no this is like very hard to go
- 45:17Speaker 1: through because it holds up a mirror to yourself and
- 45:19Speaker 1: who you are and like decisions you've made or you
- 45:22Speaker 1: think back on every moment in the relationship and that's
- 45:25Speaker 1: a very hard thing to do, especially if you guys
- 45:27Speaker 1: were very connected. I think I'll say, yeah, have a grace.
- 45:32Speaker 1: And also like, they're probably not the love of your life.
- 45:38Speaker 1: Because what my therapist told me was, I know you
- 45:41Speaker 1: feel like you're dying, but if you lost the love
- 45:44Speaker 1: of your life, you would actually probably die. Like you
- 45:46Speaker 1: literally would, you would, you would literally feel way have like,
- 45:50Speaker 1: it's this different feeling. And then she told me like
- 45:53Speaker 1: the first one, is gonna be the worst because you
- 45:56Speaker 1: don't think that you're gonna survive it. And then when
- 45:59Speaker 1: you survive it, like I remember the day I woke
- 46:02Speaker 1: up and I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders.
- 46:05Speaker 1: I was like, I can breathe again. And then everything
- 46:08Speaker 1: opened up for me. So I think that's why it's
- 46:11Speaker 1: so hard is because it's your first time going through it.
- 46:13Speaker 1: You don't know how to counsel yourself. You don't know
- 46:15Speaker 1: what to accept. You don't know what to expect. You
- 46:17Speaker 1: don't know how to give yourself grace. You don't know
- 46:19Speaker 1: how to grieve, right? How do you even grieve from that?
- 46:23Speaker 1: And so then you're like, oh, I'm always going to
- 46:24Speaker 1: feel this way. And then you don't. You will get
- 46:27Speaker 1: back up. You'll do better things. You'll grow. You'll prosper.
- 46:29Speaker 1: You'll get your face card back because they know how
- 46:32Speaker 1: to take that face card. I'll say that.
- 46:33Speaker 2: That's what we're not going to do. You'll get your
- 46:35Speaker 2: face card back. You'll find somebody else because there's always
- 46:37Speaker 2: somebody else.
- 46:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:38Speaker 2: All right.
- 46:39Speaker 1: Not our purses.
- 46:42Speaker 2: Her, Mr. David Justice.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Yeah. Quoting David Justice, MLB superstar, men are prises. He's
- 46:50Speaker 1: going to literally call her a slugger himself.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Why would you say that?
- 46:54Speaker 1: The two times slugger, mind you.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Okay. Purpose. Let's do it. Perfect. Let's do it. All right.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Who is Raquel Justice outside of being David Justice's daughter?
- 47:06Speaker 2: You've touched a little bit on it, but just go
- 47:08Speaker 2: deeper into that.
- 47:09Speaker 1: Who are you?
- 47:10Speaker 2: And outside of being an actress. Yes, yes, yes.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Yeah. I have to think of myself through my friend's lens.
- 47:18Speaker 2: How are you as a friend? Who are you in
- 47:20Speaker 2: the friend group?
- 47:21Speaker 1: I'm fiercely loyal. I can see that. I'll just attest
- 47:26Speaker 1: to me and Lucky's close relationship. She is so the
- 47:32Speaker 1: straight man, and I'm so like, you got to put
- 47:35Speaker 1: me on a leash. That's just how we work with
- 47:38Speaker 1: each other, though, and we really understand each other. And
- 47:40Speaker 1: so she's always saying like, you're so crazy. Like, that's
- 47:45Speaker 1: her saying to me, like, you are so crazy. And
- 47:47Speaker 1: I'm always like, Why aren't you more upset? Like, I'm
- 47:50Speaker 1: going to be the person I'm always going to advocate
- 47:52Speaker 1: for my friends. And if they're not upset about it,
- 47:54Speaker 1: I'm upset about it. Like, I'm not understanding. I won't forget.
- 47:58Speaker 1: And I'll let them forget. But I'm a hold. I'm
- 48:00Speaker 1: a very, like, my aunt says, like, I'm a warrior almost.
- 48:04Speaker 1: And she's like, girl, you're too much sometimes. And I'm like,
- 48:08Speaker 1: somebody's got to do it. For the people I love,
- 48:10Speaker 1: I will really ride 10 toes down.
- 48:14Speaker 2: Love it.
- 48:14Speaker 1: A little bit. And I'm trying to actually be a
- 48:17Speaker 1: little bit better at that because sometimes I'm like.
- 48:19Speaker 2: There's nothing wrong with standing ten toes.
- 48:20Speaker 1: Sometimes I'm a little bit like, you know. But Lucky's such...
- 48:26Speaker 1: She has so much compassion and understanding and kindness and
- 48:30Speaker 1: grace for people, especially if they've done her dirty. And
- 48:33Speaker 1: I honestly really admire it. And so I think I
- 48:37Speaker 1: bring to her a sense of reality. Sometimes she comes
- 48:41Speaker 1: to me... Because she's like, I feel like I may
- 48:43Speaker 1: just be delusional. And I'm just, she's like, I need
- 48:45Speaker 1: reality right now. And I'll be like, they're playing in
- 48:48Speaker 1: your face. Like, I will, I'll bring that. And then
- 48:50Speaker 1: she'll bring to me, like, well, think about it this way.
- 48:52Speaker 1: This way. That's why it works.
- 48:53Speaker 2: So it works.
- 48:54Speaker 1: So I will say, like, me outside of acting and.
- 48:59Speaker 1: Outside of acting and my, like, family, I'm very, like, people.
- 49:04Speaker 1: I'm a people. I'm a community-driven person. Like, I need
- 49:08Speaker 1: my community. I need my friends. I need my partner.
- 49:11Speaker 1: I need all of it. Like, they are the most
- 49:14Speaker 1: important thing to me. And I'm a big traveler. Like,
- 49:18Speaker 1: I love, love, love the world. I love food. so
- 49:20Speaker 1: I'm a big like adventure thrill seeker and sometimes with
- 49:23Speaker 1: acting it's hard to like be like I'm just gonna
- 49:26Speaker 1: like go live here for a while but there's like
- 49:28Speaker 1: these warring sides in my brain because I want to
- 49:30Speaker 1: be here I want to really apply myself and then
- 49:33Speaker 1: I'll always feel like my heart is somewhere else I
- 49:35Speaker 1: always feel like my heart is in different places so
- 49:38Speaker 1: I'm a big nomad I would say. I literally lived
- 49:41Speaker 1: out of my car for years, even though I had
- 49:43Speaker 1: a home. But I just was like, no, I'm not
- 49:45Speaker 1: in a stable spot. I want to be here, here,
- 49:47Speaker 1: and here. So I'm going to drive here for two days.
- 49:49Speaker 1: Then I'm going to go here. Then I'm going to
- 49:50Speaker 1: come visit my friends here. And I'll just live out
- 49:51Speaker 1: of my car. And so I just did. That's just
- 49:53Speaker 1: how I... I'm very... I would say my friends say
- 49:58Speaker 1: that I'm very whimsical.
- 49:59Speaker 2: I was going to say whimsical.
- 50:02Speaker 1: But sometimes I'm like... It's like calling me a manic
- 50:05Speaker 1: pixie dream girl. I hate that because... It's like so,
- 50:08Speaker 1: sometimes I'm just like, that's so corny.
- 50:09Speaker 2: So just a free spirit.
- 50:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:11Speaker 2: Okay, maybe free spirit is a better word.
- 50:13Speaker 1: I would say like, they definitely say I'm more like,
- 50:16Speaker 1: I bring a lot of childlike, like, like, innocence to
- 50:21Speaker 1: their life, I would say. I don't say that. But
- 50:24Speaker 1: I don't have any perception of who I am. So
- 50:30Speaker 1: I try to speak from their point of view. And
- 50:32Speaker 1: that's just stuff that they've told me.
- 50:34Speaker 2: Okay, so you mentioned traveling. So this is just something
- 50:37Speaker 2: I thought of. So on a girl's trip, which friend
- 50:39Speaker 2: are you? Are you the one that's asleep? The one
- 50:41Speaker 2: that's reading a book? We don't know if she's not
- 50:43Speaker 2: going to be asleep. Are you the one partying on
- 50:45Speaker 2: the counter? Are you the one working out?
- 50:47Speaker 1: So like all? So all the above? I'm so type B.
- 50:52Speaker 1: I'm so type B.
- 50:53Speaker 2: Are you the itinerary girl?
- 50:54Speaker 1: No. No.
- 50:55Speaker 2: Just let it flow?
- 50:56Speaker 1: I don't want an itinerary. I have some food spots
- 50:59Speaker 1: I want to hit. Okay.
- 51:00Speaker 2: That's me.
- 51:00Speaker 1: I'm always going to try to find a library or
- 51:02Speaker 1: a really cool bookstore in the area. I'm really going
- 51:06Speaker 1: to try to find that. And then we're going to
- 51:08Speaker 1: find the best spots to go to at night. I
- 51:11Speaker 1: just need to experience life. And I think in Europe, though,
- 51:13Speaker 1: it's like you walk outside, you'll find it. So I'm
- 51:15Speaker 1: not an itinerary girl.
- 51:16Speaker 2: I love that.
- 51:16Speaker 1: I'm not. I'm all the above.
- 51:18Speaker 2: I love that.
- 51:19Speaker 1: And I bring my book everywhere, by the way. And
- 51:21Speaker 1: it's either gonna be in Lucky's bag or my partner's
- 51:23Speaker 1: holding it.
- 51:25Speaker 2: Before we started filming, you were outside reading.
- 51:28Speaker 1: I was like, what collection do y'all got?
- 51:30Speaker 2: She gonna find her a good book, honey. Okay, maybe
- 51:33Speaker 2: do one more? Yeah, let's do one more. Okay, so
- 51:35Speaker 2: this is a good one. What advice would you give
- 51:37Speaker 2: someone who's still trying to figure out who they are
- 51:40Speaker 2: and what they're meant to do?
- 51:41Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, that's such a good question. I feel
- 51:44Speaker 1: like with the what you're meant to do, I'm not
- 51:47Speaker 1: the best person to ask because I've just always known
- 51:49Speaker 1: I've never really had, I've never faltered in the fact
- 51:52Speaker 1: that this is what I want to do. Of course,
- 51:53Speaker 1: I've had doubts and I've had like my quarter life
- 51:55Speaker 1: crisis where I'm like, well, if this doesn't work out
- 51:58Speaker 1: for me, I'm going to move somewhere and I'm just
- 52:00Speaker 1: going to get like a smoothie shack. Like that's literally
- 52:02Speaker 1: my idea. Like if this doesn't work, I'm leaving the country.
- 52:06Speaker 1: But I don't know. I think seeing my friends, we're
- 52:08Speaker 1: all going through this like transitionary period. We just graduated
- 52:11Speaker 1: from college. Everyone's moving to different places. Lucky's probably on
- 52:15Speaker 1: a plane right now to Paris.
- 52:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 52:18Speaker 1: Gonna die, but that's okay. I'm not crying about that. No, seriously.
- 52:22Speaker 1: We said goodbye to each other last night and we
- 52:24Speaker 1: were literally acting like we were dying.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Was she moving to Paris?
- 52:26Speaker 1: She's moving to Paris.
- 52:27Speaker 2: No, she's not.
- 52:28Speaker 1: For like a full year and like a half. Yeah,
- 52:31Speaker 1: she's getting her MBA. I gotta text her.
- 52:33Speaker 2: She did not tell us that, so she's going to
- 52:36Speaker 2: have some explaining to do. Lucky girl. She did not approve.
- 52:39Speaker 2: Best of luck. I'm so happy for her. She did
- 52:41Speaker 2: not get that approved. She didn't, but I'm so happy
- 52:43Speaker 2: for her.
- 52:44Speaker 1: Good for you, girl. She's going to do amazing things.
- 52:46Speaker 1: So she's getting her master's right now, and she's doing
- 52:49Speaker 1: it in Paris. She's fluent in French, so she's going
- 52:50Speaker 1: to find her way.
- 52:50Speaker 2: Of course, yeah, she's on here.
- 52:51Speaker 1: But, I mean, I never worry about her out in
- 52:53Speaker 1: the world, but we haven't. I mean, we've been living
- 52:57Speaker 1: with each other consistently. for the past four years and
- 52:59Speaker 1: then for the past six years off and on because
- 53:01Speaker 1: for two years before that I was living with her
- 53:03Speaker 1: off and on for like three weeks at a time.
- 53:04Speaker 1: We traveled the world together before we even went to college.
- 53:06Speaker 1: We went to Madrid together. We like, so we were,
- 53:10Speaker 1: we were saying goodbye last night and we're not a
- 53:11Speaker 1: very like, I'm a super like physical person. She's kind
- 53:15Speaker 1: of like, okay, so let me like give her a
- 53:17Speaker 1: big hug. She's like a friend where like if she
- 53:19Speaker 1: puts her head on your shoulder, you freeze, they don't move.
- 53:22Speaker 1: That's like the type of, like I'm like, okay, she's like,
- 53:24Speaker 1: her head's on my shoulder. I'm going to like play
- 53:26Speaker 1: super cool. But we were saying goodbye last night and like,
- 53:29Speaker 1: It was really, it was actually so sad. But yeah, no,
- 53:32Speaker 1: we were like holding hands and like we just didn't,
- 53:34Speaker 1: we didn't let go. And I'm like trying to, I'm
- 53:35Speaker 1: trying to walk out the door, but I'm like, I can't,
- 53:37Speaker 1: like we can't let go. And we texted immediately and
- 53:39Speaker 1: it was literally like, I literally texted her, I carry
- 53:42Speaker 1: you with me everywhere. But I'm like, we were sort
- 53:44Speaker 1: of laughing over text because I'm like, why are we,
- 53:47Speaker 1: we acted like you're dying. We acted like you died.
- 53:49Speaker 1: And I'm going to see her for her birthday in
- 53:50Speaker 1: a month and a half.
- 53:51Speaker 2: So it's like.
- 53:52Speaker 1: I'm tripping, but.
- 53:52Speaker 2: There's still separation, anxiety.
- 53:53Speaker 1: Yeah, we're not.
- 53:54Speaker 2: We're used to being with each other.
- 53:55Speaker 1: We are not... This is not cut out for us.
- 53:57Speaker 1: We literally, since the moment we met, like, that's kind
- 53:59Speaker 1: of like my sister. So it's weird. But back to
- 54:01Speaker 1: the question. I will say that if... I'm going to
- 54:04Speaker 1: steal an Anthony Bourdain quote, but if there's one piece
- 54:07Speaker 1: of advice that I can give, it is to move, like,
- 54:10Speaker 1: across the river or across an ocean. Like, just go.
- 54:13Speaker 1: If you don't know what you want to do yet,
- 54:14Speaker 1: experience the world. That's more... The work is always going
- 54:18Speaker 1: to be there. Work is, like... it's all capitalism is
- 54:22Speaker 1: always gonna be there so if you have the chance
- 54:25Speaker 1: to like just live as a human and and if
- 54:28Speaker 1: you are able to save up enough to even take
- 54:30Speaker 1: like a road trip across america very good that's what
- 54:33Speaker 1: you do and that's how you find yourself that's how
- 54:34Speaker 1: you find what you love and like you may find
- 54:37Speaker 1: it in the most unexpected places and you might end
- 54:39Speaker 1: up in a state where you're like maybe i'll stay
- 54:41Speaker 1: here maybe this is where i'm gonna i'm gonna try
- 54:43Speaker 1: to do something here and then move to the next
- 54:44Speaker 1: spot I think my cousin Kieran is like a perfect
- 54:47Speaker 1: example of that. He's such a free spirit. He didn't
- 54:49Speaker 1: go to college, but he's the most like lived person
- 54:53Speaker 1: I know. And he, like school isn't for everybody. So
- 54:56Speaker 1: he just, he just started his life and he is
- 54:59Speaker 1: so free. He's so open to like life and he
- 55:02Speaker 1: just picks up jobs and he works super hard. And
- 55:05Speaker 1: so he'll get money, he'll save and then he'll do this.
- 55:06Speaker 1: I love that. I love it. I'm like, we're 22.
- 55:08Speaker 1: That's what we should be doing. Thank you.
- 55:09Speaker 2: That's what I was going to say.
- 55:10Speaker 1: That's what I was going to say. It's hard in
- 55:12Speaker 1: a society right now.
- 55:13Speaker 2: You guys are doing a great job of doing it.
- 55:16Speaker 2: Do you think that friends can be soulmates?
- 55:19Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, absolutely. Like, Lucky's my soulmate. Like, for sure. And, like,
- 55:22Speaker 1: my partner right now, he'll always say, like, I know
- 55:24Speaker 1: I can't compete with her, but I'm just going to
- 55:26Speaker 1: be here to, like, love you both, basically. Because he's
- 55:28Speaker 1: also one of her best friends. So, I mean, all
- 55:31Speaker 1: of our partners have, like, known. If we're all together,
- 55:34Speaker 1: it's just, like, And it's, like, a double date situation,
- 55:37Speaker 1: which she hates doing. But when I forced her to
- 55:39Speaker 1: do it, it's literally, like, we're together. Like, you guys
- 55:43Speaker 1: are just kind of here to just, like, entertain us or, like,
- 55:46Speaker 1: find us a music. Laugh at our jokes and we're
- 55:48Speaker 1: going to poke at you. Like, that's my soulmate for sure.
- 55:51Speaker 1: And my cousins.
- 55:52Speaker 2: So special.
- 55:52Speaker 1: They're my soulmates. Like, I think friendships are more important
- 55:56Speaker 1: than a relationship. I think, like, especially female friendships are, like,
- 56:00Speaker 1: I think they're, like, the deepest form of love that
- 56:02Speaker 1: you can, like, hit.
- 56:03Speaker 2: I agree.
- 56:04Speaker 1: And we don't even pay close enough attention to how
- 56:08Speaker 1: much more important community is than a partner.
- 56:11Speaker 2: That's so special. You girls are doing it. Y'all are
- 56:14Speaker 2: doing it.
- 56:14Speaker 1: I will say I'm inspired. No pun intended. I'm lucky.
- 56:18Speaker 2: And we're about to pull because we got to. But
- 56:22Speaker 2: how you guys see the world is different than how
- 56:26Speaker 2: we saw it and how we see it and how
- 56:28Speaker 2: we grew up seeing it. And so it's so beautiful
- 56:30Speaker 2: to hear y'all talk about living and moving to different
- 56:33Speaker 2: countries and studying abroad and just living your life.
- 56:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 56:36Speaker 2: And not putting so much on other people. Yeah. And
- 56:39Speaker 2: not feeling stuck.
- 56:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 56:40Speaker 2: That's the thing, especially for women. So it's, it's, it's
- 56:43Speaker 2: very good. And, um, I'm just happy to hear it
- 56:46Speaker 2: come from.
- 56:47Speaker 1: And it's not so easy. Yeah.
- 56:49Speaker 2: It's not.
- 56:49Speaker 1: That's where, that's where it really comes in. We're like, yeah,
- 56:52Speaker 1: we thank our parents and I think our community, because
- 56:54Speaker 1: they're the ones who even like, push us to have
- 56:56Speaker 1: this mentality. Allow us to have the mentality. It's really
- 56:59Speaker 1: like a privilege to have that mentality.
- 57:01Speaker 2: It really is.
- 57:02Speaker 1: It is.
- 57:02Speaker 2: Especially when you get to our age, because we're 10
- 57:04Speaker 2: plus years older. You will be so happy when you
- 57:08Speaker 2: look back at your 20s that you lived. I lived
- 57:11Speaker 2: out of my closet. I went here, I went there.
- 57:13Speaker 2: I don't remember any of it. Nothing left is left
- 57:16Speaker 2: on the table. That's good. Very good. Very good for
- 57:19Speaker 2: you guys. All right, let's see what's next. And I
- 57:21Speaker 2: love the girl-girl, the girls-girl vibes. I love it. We
- 57:24Speaker 2: are certified girls-girls.
- 57:26Speaker 1: Girls-girls. Certified. Truth or dare. Rights and wrongs. Truth or dare.
- 57:29Speaker 2: Rights and wrongs, baby.
- 57:31Speaker 1: Period.
- 57:32Speaker 2: Truth or dare, let's just do one. Okay, cool. Ooh,
- 57:35Speaker 2: that's the pressure. The pressure. Okay, so wait, but let's,
- 57:39Speaker 2: she has to choose truth or dare. Okay, yeah, go ahead.
- 57:40Speaker 2: And then, oh God. I'm like, do you want to
- 57:43Speaker 2: do truth or dare?
- 57:44Speaker 1: Like, I'm trying to think of what a dare would
- 57:46Speaker 1: even be right now.
- 57:46Speaker 2: You know what? It's not.
- 57:48Speaker 1: I mean, it's.
- 57:48Speaker 2: Actually, I kind of want you.
- 57:49Speaker 1: To do a dare. Okay, I'll do a dare.
- 57:50Speaker 2: Okay, go ahead. Pick a dare for her to do.
- 57:52Speaker 1: Okay. Okay.
- 57:56Speaker 2: Act out how you really react when you get an
- 57:59Speaker 2: audition rejection email oh wait.
- 58:01Speaker 1: This is good okay this is good because it's never
- 58:04Speaker 1: an email it's just radio silence.
- 58:06Speaker 2: Okay they never tell you why.
- 58:07Speaker 1: No they'll never nope okay um so it literally is
- 58:11Speaker 1: just this like that's guys i'm kidding you not it's
- 58:16Speaker 1: this okay okay and you're like all right but here's
- 58:19Speaker 1: why because it used to be like this Like, it
- 58:22Speaker 1: literally used to be like, okay, okay, I suck. I'm horrible. Okay. Okay. But,
- 58:26Speaker 1: I mean, I've been doing this for, like, 10 years. So,
- 58:28Speaker 1: and I get a lot of auditions, like, thankfully. Like,
- 58:31Speaker 1: I'm privileged again. Like, I have such a great team.
- 58:34Speaker 1: Sheridan and Lindsay at Paradigm.
- 58:36Speaker 2: Shout out to you.
- 58:36Speaker 1: Best team ever. Love you guys down. So, they get
- 58:39Speaker 1: me such great auditions. But the industry now, because it's so,
- 58:45Speaker 1: it's all self-tapes. It's, you literally just, you do your
- 58:49Speaker 1: hard work. You send it in. and then you have
- 58:52Speaker 1: to forget about it. You have to or else it
- 58:54Speaker 1: will ruin your life. And there's no rejection email. There's
- 58:58Speaker 1: just no talking. There's no checking back up. And so
- 59:02Speaker 1: I normally give my auditions like a week, week or
- 59:04Speaker 1: two to hear something back. If I don't hear anything back,
- 59:07Speaker 1: I let it go. And sometimes, rarely, they'll come back
- 59:10Speaker 1: a month later and be like, all right, let's send
- 59:12Speaker 1: in another one. And then I'll be like, oh, okay, sure.
- 59:14Speaker 1: And then I'll get excited again. But I only really
- 59:17Speaker 1: get sad if it's a project that I got really
- 59:19Speaker 1: attached to while preparing for. Like, oh, this would be
- 59:22Speaker 1: so cool to do. And, like, I get really attached
- 59:24Speaker 1: to it. Or if I get a callback and then
- 59:25Speaker 1: a director session and then I get pinned. and then
- 59:28Speaker 1: I lose it, that's when I gotta go get like
- 59:30Speaker 1: a mimosa.
- 59:31Speaker 2: Like a margarita at Cinco's.
- 59:33Speaker 1: Not at Cinco's, she said at Cinco's. No, I need
- 59:35Speaker 1: my friends, girl. I need to forget. I'm gonna go
- 59:37Speaker 1: to my books.
- 59:39Speaker 2: What about when you see the person and you audition
- 59:43Speaker 2: for it and you're like.
- 59:44Speaker 1: Honestly, I think it's kind of cool because I audition
- 59:46Speaker 1: for a lot of great stuff. So the second that
- 59:48Speaker 1: I see it's been cast, well, first off, if it
- 59:51Speaker 1: was cast by like another like black woman.
- 59:53Speaker 2: I'm like period period because.
- 59:55Speaker 1: Sometimes it's not that's okay too but like if it
- 59:57Speaker 1: is i'm like okay like.
- 59:58Speaker 2: You're like okay okay okay one.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: Of us got it yeah that's good i'm gonna watch
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: it yeah i almost watch it if i see it
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: coming out and i'm kind of interested i'm like let
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: me just watch it just to see.
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: What it's like yeah and like i.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: In this industry literally the only way you'll survive is
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: if you just have the mentality if it's meant for
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: me it'll be mine absolutely because if you keep thinking
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: like I should have that.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: Why didn't I get it?
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: Why didn't I have that? What is it about her
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: that's not in me? It's like, you're going to drive
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: yourself crazy. I'm just lucky I got the audition. They
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: got to see my face, you know? So, yeah. Okay.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: You want to do another one or what? Oh, what's
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: another one? You want to do a truth or just
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: a dare? Truth or dare?
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: I want to do another dare.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: Okay, cool. Yeah, that was fun. Text your dad and
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: ask him to describe you in one word. Yes.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: He's not going to answer for three days. Oh, okay. No, no,
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: he doesn't.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: He's only a calm guy.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: Oh, calm.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: Okay, calm. Let's see if he'll answer. Call your dad
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: and ask him to describe you in one word and
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: we'll hear the answer.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: One word. Let's FaceTime him. Let's see if he answers us. Yeah,
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: let's see. Don't ignore us. He'll probably answer. Don't ignore us.
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: I hope we got good Wi-Fi in here.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: Okay. If he ignores us, I'm going to text him.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: You'll be like, you know what?
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: You know what? I could be dying. Don't ignore me.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: What am I saying? What could you be doing other
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: than being my parent 24-7?
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: Oh my God. Literally, this is so funny. His picture,
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: his thing on my phone is Speed Outta Man with
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: a Superman, a black Superman next to it. I see.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: He's probably golfing. Oh, shoot.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: Probably is. You know our dads golf together. Do you
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: know that?
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: I did not know that. Yes. They golf a lot.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: They golf a lot. They golf a lot. They go
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: to those golf tournaments. Cedric's.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: Anthony's.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: Now Silver Slugger.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: Where are you at? No, literally. She said, where are
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: you at? I'm going to send a video, too. I'm
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: trying to think who I could. Okay.
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: Okay, then.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: Okay. Hi, Mr.
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: Justice.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: Yeah, hold on.
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: Okay, let's see.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: Hi, Mr. Justice.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: Hey. Everyone say hey.
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: So you almost had a moment of fame.
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: Almost. We're trying to give it to you.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: But you didn't answer. So. Because we'll talk about that later.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: Love you. Bye. Bye.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: That was cute.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: So let's go to. What if he calls back? I know.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: If he calls back.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: We're answering.
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: For sure. Okay.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: Let's see what's next.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: Miscellaneous. Miscellaneous.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: Let's do two miscellaneous. All right. Let's do it.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I have like a weird little thing about this.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: I love.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: How people abbreviate miscellaneous. Just physically looking at it, I
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: just love how it looks.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: It is cute.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: Every time I see it, I'm like, misc.
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: Misc.
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: These are going to be fun. I love these. Oh,
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: I think I know this. This is going to be
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: a hard one for you. Books or movies?
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: Oh my God. I feel like you're like, how did
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: you do that?
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: I feel like I know the answer.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: You just shot me. I know.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: You got to do one. One or the other. Take
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: a moment. Can't do both. Get some water. She said
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: get some water.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: No, I know because I'm sweating. This is maybe the
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: hardest decision I've ever made.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: Books or movies? That is a hard one.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: I'm going to say books.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: I can see that. That's what I was going to say.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: Because I have very wild imagination. So when I read
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: a book, I'm watching a movie. But I get to
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: cast it. I get the shots. I get, it's so
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: in depth, it's so, and movies are in art form,
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: and obviously it's my craft, I love it. But books,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: it's like, I'm in a different world. Books, I'm able
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: to escape to anywhere I want. I love fantasy books,
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: I love, yeah. I wanna be in the new Fourth Wing.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: We're making a Fourth Wing show.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: I love that book, I love that series. I literally
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: explained the entire first book out loud to my partner
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: to get him to read it. I explained it all
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: like chapter by chapter from memory. I want an audition.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: It's out there now. We believe in manifestation. We do
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: that here. Yes, we do that here. Okay, so since
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: we're talking about books, physical book or Kindle?
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: Oh, physical. I hate Kindles. Really? I hate any type
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: of reading that's not physical. I need to have the book.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: Unless it's like fan fiction. I used to read a
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: lot of fan fiction and you have to do that
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: on the computer. Okay. But yeah, no, I'm only ever
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: going to the bookstore. Interesting.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: Okay. Comedy or drama?
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: Drama.
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: Audition in the room or self-tape?
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: In the room.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: Exactly in the room.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: Dream role. I mean, I'm talking like, yeah, dream role.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: You know what?
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: On the way over here, I knew you guys were
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: going to ask this. So I was like, what the
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: heck am I going to say? It's such a boring answer,
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: but I literally just feel like anything that I get
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: freedom to play. That's why I think I love indie
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: films so much, because you just, they say action, and
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: it's such a collaborative piece. Anything that allows me to
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: feel like we are all so connected in making this,
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: and you're not yelling cut, and you're just letting it run,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: and seeing what I'm gonna do. That just really lets
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: me exercise my talent, but also I love dystopian movies.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: I love movies where I gotta run, I gotta scream,
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: I gotta, ah! You know, I love, and especially when
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: they're done well, like The Hunger Games, like, whoa, love that.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: So that's also, again, fourth wing.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: Okay, there we go.
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: I love stuff like that. I love big worlds.
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: Love it.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: So that would be awesome. Superheroes, I'm a huge Marvel nerd. Oh, yes!
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: Huge I could see you in Marvel I'm a Marvel
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: fan oh.
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: My gosh yeah I'm re-reaching I'm re-watching all of them
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: before Doomsday that's coming out in December so yeah I'm
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: like I used to really want to be Ironheart but
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Queen already got cast so that's okay that's okay that's
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: all good because again black women are winning but yeah
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: anything like that's just like that's a dream It's going
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: to happen.
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: It's going to happen. We already spoke it.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: One thing you're surprisingly good at?
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: Pool.
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: You like everything. Oh, pool? Like billiards?
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: I'm really good at pool. Oh, wow. Interesting. I don't
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: tell people so that I can go and they'll underestimate me.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: And then you end up kicking their ass.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: And I just stay silent.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: Because you're a winner.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: I'm a winner.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: I'm a winner.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: But yeah, no, I'm really good. Okay.
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: We got one more token. What could it be?
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: What could it be?
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: Oh, I don't know, Mariah. Career! Okay, so now we
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: can dive into just what you're doing.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: Sorry, I was like, I thought he was texting back,
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: but it's just my mom. We love your mom.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: We love my mom, too. Yeah, she's hilarious. Okay, so
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: let's just dive into your acting career. So when did
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: acting go from something you just enjoy doing to something
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: you genuinely wanted to build a career around? Did you
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: have like one moment?
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: I don't know if I had one moment. I think
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: I always knew it was like all I ever wanted
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: to do. But when you're a kid, it's just like fun.
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: You don't think about like money or anything. You don't
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: think like, oh, I need to make a living. Maybe
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: in college. I really would say really though, only this
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: past like two years. Because still up until like two
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: years ago, it was still just something I really loved.
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: And then I wasn't, I was in college. I'm like
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: a freshman. So like, I'm partying with my friends and
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: it's fun. And I'm going to film tomorrow, but I'm
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: going to be at the bar tonight. And like, it
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: was just like very fun.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: And then it got serious. And then it's like, okay,
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: I'm about to enter the world. And my parents were like,
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: this is what you still want to do. And there's
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: never like a question. But I think now I'm very, very,
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: I'm way more like, I'm so much more into like
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: the craft of it. And like, I want, I don't
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: want it to just get, like, fast rolls and just, like,
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: work as much as I can. I want to work badly.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: But I want to build something. And I think that's
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: where my team comes in, too. Again, Sheridan and Lindsay, like,
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: they're so great. And so they are very with me on, like,
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: we're building you. Because, you know, I want to have
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: a very long career. And every time I get stressed,
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: I'm like, Meryl Streep didn't really become, like, Meryl Streep
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: until she became Meryl Streep. And she started booking really
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: at 29. So... I'm, like, also being patient with myself. Like,
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: I think that's what these past two years have been.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: It's like, all right, let's put our boots on. You've
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: been doing it for a long time, but now you're
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: really doing it because now you're an adult. You're really,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: really only doing it once you go from childhood to, like,
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: to adulthood. Really, I think, in this industry. Because when
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: you're a child, you don't have any decisions to make.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: You just kind of have fun with it. And then
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: once it becomes a job is when I think you
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: either really step up and you really fall deeper in
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: love with it or you, like, stop doing it.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: Really.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: So.
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: So what's something that you've accomplished as an actress that
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: you're incredibly proud of?
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: I've honestly been able to be around some really amazing actors.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: Like I worked with Rita Moreno. She's incredible. Like working
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: on Dexter was like, whoa, like that was so cool.
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: I didn't even know how big of a show that
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: really was. I just I know it's like pop culture.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: You know, Dexter Morgan, I've heard that so much. And
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: a girl in my, I was still in college at
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: the time, a girl in my class had gotten an
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: audition to play Deb. And everyone was like freaking out
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: about it. And I was like, what is this? So
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: I went, I looked it up. And I didn't even,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: I didn't reach out to my agents at all. I
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: was like, oh, this is cool. Oh, my dad's calling back. Okay. Oh,
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: he's golfing. Oh, he's golfing. I'm on a podcast right now.
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: Okay, what's the question? Oh, to describe.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: Hi, thank you, Ness. I'm on a podcast and they
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: had a question for you. If you could describe me
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: in one word, what would it be?
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: One word? Mm-hmm. man, you're more than one word, baby.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: And so I'm going to say exquisite. Can you say
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: that one more time? Oh, he said it. My phone
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: wasn't rolling. My daughter, one word, if I have one word,
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: it's going.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: To be exquisite. Love it.
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: Explain.
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: That doesn't even do her justice. Explain. Well, explain why
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: I say exquisite, because a person that's exquisite is smart, intelligent, beautiful, thought-provoking. Kind, sweet,
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: a wonderful friend. She's a great daughter.
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: Very helpful. Hey, thanks, guy.
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: Oh, that's so sweet. I'm on a golf course.
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: Enjoy.
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: When I called you, I was like, he's golfing. Yes.
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: We love your advice.
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: Thank you for calling us back.
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: All right. I love you. Thank you for calling back.
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: That was so good. That was so sweet.
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: We got it.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: He loves his cute little golf outfits.
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: Oh, my God. He does look so cute, though. He
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: looks cute.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: He'll literally take both his hats and be like this. Okay, Raquel.
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: And he's like, all right, watch. And he's like, every
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: single accessory, I have to be like, I'm like the
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: Simon Cowell of his closet.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: You need to tell him that you were on the
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: podcast with Mike Woodson's daughter.
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: He's going to be like, oh!
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: I will.
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: Nobody in my family even knows I'm doing this right now.
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: That's the kind of person I am. I'm like, I'll
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: just like pop out with something and I'll let them
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: know like a week later.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: No, our dads are golf buddies. Okay, so we were
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: talking about your career and your acting. But I wanted
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: to ask about the Dexter process, about the process of
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: you auditioning and then kind of moving it through.
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, heard about it in my acting class.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: I got an audition a week later. I didn't tell
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: anybody in my acting class because... I get such great
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: auditions and if it doesn't like go any further I'd
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: probably I just like don't tell anybody until like it
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: kind of feels like it's getting a little bit more
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: serious right and yeah I did the audition and then
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: I think two weeks later my film Finding Tony was
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: coming out at the time I filmed that freshman year
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: the whole month of finals month in Atlanta and it
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: was having its like release at the Chinese Theater in
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: Hollywood I think that's where it is yeah And I'm
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: so bad with names. And I was on my way
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: to my film, to walk the carpet, to promote the
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: film and to watch it for the first time with
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: all my family. And I'm all dressed up and I'm
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: in the backseat. I'm doing a vlog. And then my
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: team called me and they were like, okay, so they
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: really liked you. You have a director session. It's going
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: to be in a few days. So I was like, oh. Awesome.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: That was one of the times where I kind of
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: felt like this shit.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: So once you hear that, that means you got it.
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: The director is pretty close. You're close. That's a big deal.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: Especially if it's going to be in person. Especially if
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: it's not on Zoom. It's like, no, they want you
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: to come into the office. It doesn't mean you have
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: it for sure.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: You're stepping in the right direction.
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: You're stepping closer. The pool went from 1,000 auditioners to
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: there's probably going to be like maybe 10.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: Wow. Okay.
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: Which, again, it just keeps getting whittled down and down
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: and down. And so I was like, okay, I'm on
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: the way to a premiere. I got a director. I
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: love just like being able to just get past the
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: first round. And so then I went in, I had
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: locks at the time and I went in and I
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: was the only black girl in like the room and
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: like the, you know, And sometimes that used to scare
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: me when I was younger because I was like, well,
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: one of us clearly does not look like the rest.
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: So I used to think like, I'm not what they're
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: looking for. But that stopped scaring me a long time ago.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: I was like, no, I should be what they're looking for.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: So I was like, okay, I got to just own this.
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: So I walked in the room and there was a
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: whole room full of people. And I think this is
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: where my training, when I first started acting, where my
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: training really comes into play is which is I didn't
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: start acting during the whole virtual craze. I started acting
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: when you physically had to be there. So you had
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: to learn how to put nerves away. You had to
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: learn how to talk, how to be charismatic and communicative
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: in the room, how to take direction on the spot.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: And I think those things really helped me when I
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: get later on in the process because you can film
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: a self tape as much as you want. You can
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: doctor as much as you want to portray something that
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: you want. But when you're actually speaking to the people,
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: when you're there, you have to have you, like you
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: have to be full and you and show them who
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: you are. And, you know, I try to make them laugh.
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: I try to find some way to like relate and
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: make them laugh and just like ease everyone so that
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: we're like, let's just work. Let's just do this together.
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: And then I did it and they laughed really hard
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: at one of my jokes. And I remember in the
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: middle of the scene when I said the line and
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: they laughed, I was like, I was like this I
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: was like you.
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: Gotta get that in the palm of my hand.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: And um but still I left the room and I
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: was like this is really cool and and this might
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: just be it and then I got the call um
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: like I think a few days later that I was
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: pinned and then I was like okay well I've gotten
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: here before so not get my hopes up my mom
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: was like I feel it I feel it I'm like
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: mom mom um and then I I booked it maybe
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: like a month later in the grand scheme of the
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: whole process and then I was filming it a few
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: weeks later So it kind of, to me, happened kind
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: of fast because I was just like, oh, I booked it? Like,
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: it didn't even settle until I was there.
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: What reaction did you have? Who called you?
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, my mom always, she always come to me
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: and she'd be like, I got some people on the phone.
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: And it's like, at the time, it was my manager
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: and my two agents. And they were, any time that
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: they were, like, all on the phone together, I'm like...
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: what some things either good or bad no literally okay
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: I think my mom might have a video of me
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: reacting to it I don't know where it is though
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: but it's yeah it's always like okay I like to
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: take a deep breath and was like hey and they're
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: like so and then I'm like as soon as I
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: hear the so I'm like uh-oh did I book it
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: like did I get it and then they told me
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: I got it and I think it was just like
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: kind of shock at first I think I was like
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: whoa that's really cool but I still didn't really know
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: how big Dexter was until I started telling people and
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: everyone was like What? Like, no, it was like the craziest.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, I got to start getting
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: ready for this. I got to be ready. And even
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: the outpour from it, when I was living in Europe,
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: I had people recognizing me in like a small, like
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: only 50 people in a room, like bar in Southern Seville,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: which is the southern part of Spain. It's a super
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: small town. I was visiting my boyfriend at the time
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: and I'm in the room and I just had this
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: guy come up and just show me me. And he goes,
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: this you? Literally that's what he said. And I go, well, yes.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: And he just went, cool. And then walked away. And
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: I was like, this is the first time that it's
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: gone worldwide. There was huge posters of it on the
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: main walk in Madrid. It was really cool. And filming
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: it was so cool. Um, and like a crazy experience.
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: And yeah, I don't know. I just, it was awesome.
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: Come on, give us some of the experiences.
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: I didn't tell anybody my age because I was the
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: youngest one. I had just turned 20. And, um, everyone
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: normally always thinks I'm way older than 20. Like if,
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: if people meet me and I don't tell them my age,
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: they'll normally guess 25 at least. Um, I got, I got,
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: I used to get 23 at 17. So like, I
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: know I present a little bit as older. Um, to
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: people who aren't my friends. My friends are like, girl, girl,
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: you're 13. What are you talking about? But I didn't
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: tell anybody my age. And I just remember the day
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: that they found out, it was like, it like spread
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: through set. Like first of all, I like my co-star
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: found out and she was like, you're 20. And I
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: was like, yeah. And then she kind of kept it
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: on the down low for a little bit too. And
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: then I like kind of went around and they're like, no,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: you're not. No, you're not.
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: I was like, Well, were you supposed to be a
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: certain age? No, they don't care. I just didn't want.
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: Yeah, let me explain that. I didn't just... Everyone was
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: so much older, I wanted to be treated.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: as such okay the same amount of maturity older.
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: I didn't want them to be like oh she's young
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: you know what i mean i i wanted like i
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: wanted to have a friendship like a good like connection
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: with these people um and i was able to get
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: that and and i think honestly i would have been
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: able to get that even if i did tell them
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: yeah it was like fun for me but how old
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: was your character like 17 okay yeah but it was
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: fun for me to just be like no one here
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: knows i'm 20 like the people who casted me now
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: but like Nobody else did. So it was just a
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: fun little secret I had. But no, it was amazing.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: I mean, I got to bring like people I love
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: to set, got to see it. The process people that
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: I was working with, everyone was so nice. Everyone was
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: so cool. Like my favorite part is crafty. Like I
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: love crafty. I always make friends with the crafty people
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: because they'll get you right. I literally would like I
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: was just loved the crafty guys. And then I would
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: be like filming a scene and I'd come back. And
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: I'd be, like, we were, like, in the Santa Clarita, like,
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: valley for Quantum Leap. And I'm, like, super hot and
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: I'm sweating. And I'd come back and I would always have, like,
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: fresh water and cold grapes and, like, peanut butter jelly
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: sandwiches waiting for me because I knew I loved that.
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: And I was, like, this is why you got to just, like,
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: be nice. They'll take care of you.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: They'll take care of you. Being nice goes a long way.
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: It does.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: But I love gravity.
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: Oh, girl, I love a snack. I love how you appreciate.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: Sorry, I didn't know. No, no, no.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: Go ahead, girl.
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: Our set on Radford Studios was right across from Lucky's
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: dad's set. Really? Yeah.
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: So you and Lucky just, or they're not going nowhere.
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: Sometimes I would walk out and I'd be like, to
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: like the people across, I'm like, hey guys, like I
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: was 15 in there, you know? Oh, wow.
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: That's cool. I just love how you light up when
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: you talk about the process and it's just like, you
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: don't take any of it for granted and you appreciate
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: every step that goes along the way.
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: It's a hard industry too.
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's just you being so appreciative of your
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: craft and the process is very inspiring. And again, viewers
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: will just love to get to know that side of
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: you that you you don't take any of it for granted.
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: So last question for someone who's trying to build a
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: real career and ascend in the entertainment industry. What advice
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: would you give them? Ooh, not the breath. She's like,
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: let me think about this.
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: What advice would I give? Well, first, definitely find an
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: acting studio and really apply yourself. Like, I hate improv,
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: but I'm taking it. My amazing acting coaches, they're like,
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: go to improv. Get outside of your comfort zone. I
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: think like live, like really live because acting is just
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: living truthfully in the imaginary world of the script. Like
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: you just have to be a real human. And you
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: get that through experience. Like you can play a character
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: if you have a strong enough imagination, but you can't
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: really play a role that might like experience some type
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: of life without knowing what that is or what that's like.
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: You can talk to people if you don't have that experience,
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: especially if they're like, more harsh experiences. You want to
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: talk to people who've gone through it. You want to
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: understand it. But experience is what you get as you
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: age too. Like I'm very, very lucky I got to
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: travel the world. Like I think that helped me so
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: much in just like feeling more grounded in myself. So
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: I think, yeah, experience as much as you can, make mistakes,
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: mess up, go through a breakup. That'll really help you
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: in a scene. It'll really help you. Yeah, just apply yourself.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: It's a very hard industry. So you have to understand
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: that you really can't take anything personally you have to
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: just like you have to really when people ask me
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: or and they say like i really want to act
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: i really want to act like what do you what
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: do you think i should do i always like make
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: sure to ask them like do you really love it
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: like why do you love it because it's okay to
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: love it for whatever reason you love it if it's
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: because it's it pays great that's okay too like that's
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: just your truth than that Um, but I will say
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: if you want to build like a career and a
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: craft and be able to like save your mental health
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: while doing it, you have to love it because you
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: can't live without it. You have to love it because
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: you feel the most like yourself when you're acting. Like that's, that's,
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: I don't even know how to answer why I love
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: it so much. I know why I got into it.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: I know that I have a big imagination. I was
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: reading books and casting myself. And then I was like,
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: why don't I just try it? And then it just
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: clicked for me. But I, all I know is that
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: if I don't do it, I'm not who I am.
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: Like I don't, I'm not even the same. There's like
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: a euphoria I feel when I get to be in
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: the room or on a set or in a scene
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: in class or when I get to talk to other
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: people who love it. Or I'm writing right now. I'm
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: writing my first short film. I'm 16 pages in, so
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: I have to cut it down a little bit. But yeah,
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: I'm very excited about it. And even that, I wrote
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: for like three hours two days ago and I had
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: this crazy feeling of it felt like when you take drugs.
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: It literally felt like I was taking a drug by
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: just writing. I think that's what it has to fill
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: you with in order to survive. And you need a
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: strong community and a sense of yourself because this industry
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: will really push you. It'll test you and it might
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: make you lose sight of yourself. It'll break you. It'll
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: make you very insecure. You'll start to try to fit
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: yourself and mold yourself into what you think they might want.
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: And at the end of the day... What they'll want
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: is just you. Like you have to just be you.
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: So I'm honestly, I may not be the person you
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: want to ask because I'm still trying to figure it
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: out myself.
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: I'm only 22. No, I think you're the perfect person
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: to ask because number one, you're in it. But then two,
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: people don't hear. I think they want to be an
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: actor because they want to be known or they want
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: to be seen or they want to. be famous or...
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: But it's more than that. And I think you've touched
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: on it, especially the part about living. It's like, you
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: just have to live.
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: And the art of acting is, like, really hard.
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: Yeah, it is.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: I didn't even know how hard it was, again, until, like,
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: two years ago. Like, I was having a great time
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: and it was really fun, but I wasn't really getting
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: deep with it until, like, the recent years.
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: It's a very.
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: It's very hard.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: To, like... And you know.
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: It's hard. Like, you have to have a process and
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: that's how... You need to go in-depth. You need to
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: go deep. You need to... Really, it's practice makes perfect.
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: And everybody is different. Your process is going to be
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: different than mine.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: But at the end of the day, you have to work.
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: You have to train. But people need to hear that, though.
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: Because I think they think, well, I'm charismatic. I can
- 1:23:17Speaker 2: get in front of a camera and just kind of
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: do whatever. It's like, no, no, baby.
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: Sometimes there are people who... can just get in front
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: and then it takes off for them. But that's a rare,
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: that's rare.
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: It's very rare.
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: That's rare.
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: Because then you, but then it's like, if you have
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: different roles, you have to, there's a lot. And I
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: don't think anybody can just kind of, oh, you're good.
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: I did it twice. There's another piece of advice.
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. I'm going to be like, can she
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: get every single, sorry.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: But I was just at my studio two days ago
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: and I was doing like a private one-on-one like breakdown process.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: I have an audition on Friday. So- Good luck, girl.
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: Give her some love and prayer. There we go. I
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: feel it.
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: I feel it.
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: I feel it. Okay.
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: Yes. I have an audition.
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: I'm really excited about it. I'm happy for you. I
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: was just talking with one of my coaches who is
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: just so good. And he was just saying, like, each
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: character that you play in class, each person that you
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: flesh out, each person that you, like, do your breakdown on,
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: you dive deep with, you find your similarities, your difference, you, like,
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: you take that week to become her. Mm-hmm. When you're
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: done with that scene in class and you're ready to
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: move on to the next character, you don't just throw
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: that person away. You have to put that in your armory.
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: That goes into your wardrobe so that if you have
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: an audition or you end up booking a role on
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: set where it's like, okay, you know what? I'm performing
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: as Sophie this week in Frances Ha. But I booked
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: something a month from now. And this character I booked,
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: she kind of reminds me of Sophie in a lot
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: of ways. I'm going to wear Sophie. And then I'm
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: going to tweak her where she needs to be tweaked.
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: So I think that's what training gives you and like
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: process gives you is it doesn't, you don't go on
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: a set feeling out of your depths because you have
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: so many different versions of Raquel in there that I've
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: trained and I've found and I've made like I've chiseled
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: so that when I bring her back out, I just
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: have to walk around as her for a second, bring
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: her back to life, try to jumpstart her again, and then, okay,
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: this character's 80% like Sophie, but that extra 20%, I
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: gotta tweak that, and that's where I'll then go into
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: the breakdown process for that but I'm not starting from
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: square one.
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: So you have like an arsenal an arsenal of characters
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: you can pull out of your bag exactly awesome never
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: thought of it that way I think acting class is
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: so amazing for that and it helps you take stress
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: off yourself when you do have to be on set
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: because it's like my acting coach always says like when
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: you're up here literally mess up like you're in you're
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: in front of like 30 people mess up you're not
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: on set if you're gonna mess up or do anything.
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: Wrong or or yeah or like like literally just do
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: a bad performance do a bad performance just do it
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: this is the time this is the place to do
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: it I love that yeah.
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: I love that look Getting some free gems. That's what
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: I'm saying. That was a bunch of gems.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: I would have loved to hear this a little bit ago.
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: That's what this is about.
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: So we're going to wrap with legacy and then we
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: have one more activity to do right after. But when
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: you hear the word legacy, what does it mean to you?
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: And I guess it was two questions. What do you
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: want to be remembered?
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: Legacy honestly doesn't mean like career to me. It means like,
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: this is going to sound so like, But it just
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: means kind of like what you leave here, like leave
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: the earth with, I think. I think we live in
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: like a society that can be very individualistic. And I
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: think I only got to really see that because I
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: got to travel and because different cultures, they all have
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: their different things. But I come, I live in America,
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: which is individualistic, but my family is super community-based because
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: they're very Latin. They're very Hispanic. So, and, you know,
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: I will say that, and I pick my words carefully.
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: I will say that it's so important to treat people
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: well and with kindness and you want to leave something
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: that is not selfish. My career is selfish because it's
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: for me. It fills me up and like it makes
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: me happy. And yeah, I may make stuff that gets
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: to inspire people and that's amazing. But it's inherently, to
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: me at least, selfish. I think that it's like, to
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: be an actor too, you have to have ego. You
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: have to, or else you won't survive. So I think
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: what's more important to me, and this is something that
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: my grandparents again instilled, is family and friends and love
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: is everything. And then community is second. And I'm super
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: into political activism. I really am. I'm in my personal
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: life very much so, but... I just think that we
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: need to start being way more compassionate to everybody and
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: to each other and to ourselves. And so legacy to me,
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: like I really want to create a school if I
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: somehow have the money to do it one day. But
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: because money, I mean, money is everything in this world, sadly, but.
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: I think we need more people with money who want
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: to do so much good. So if anybody gets the
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: opportunity to do that, then the legacy you should leave
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: should reflect that. Because that's just a matter of the fact.
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: When you travel, you see how many different people there are.
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: Even if you go to a different state, you just
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: see the wild differences between you and other people in
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: every facet of life. Even if it's somebody who has
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: the same economic standing as you, there's other things that
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: are like, Vastly different. right and you have to you
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: have to care about people i think that's to me
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: at least what legacy is right now like you have
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: to care about people like we are just animals like
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: we are we we are so self-important and i think
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: that self-importance just leads to a very ostracized very lonely
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: very harsh society so i think Yeah, I would just
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: like to somehow in any way that I can leave
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: behind something that people remember for like what good it did.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: Like Dolly Parton.
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: Oh we love dolly we were just talking about her
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: the other day man what a human being like she
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: was a musician yes but like a human.
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: I agree a human being yes that's what i that's
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: what i mean by legacy it's like she she did
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: so much good with the money that she made from
- 1:29:23Speaker 3: what she loved to do and she was so lucky
- 1:29:25Speaker 3: to be able to have to make to make a
- 1:29:28Speaker 3: living off of like being dolly parton like she's a
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: well first off she's amazing but like just what she
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: did for people and like Children and communities.
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: It's like, that's what real legacy is. That's what really
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: actually matters. Entertainment, it doesn't matter as much to me.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: I think film and television is such an art is
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: always like the most amazing way to influence and to
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: bring awareness and to like, like, I mean, all the
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: renaissances that we've ever had, like we get so much
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: information about society from art. So it's important. But if
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: we just have that and then we're not doing anything
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: on the other side, then it feels pointless because what
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: are we really influencing? What are we really helping? If
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: we're just going to put it on a blast, but
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: then no one's going to want to like, start changing things.
- 1:30:16Speaker 2: Beautifully said. Wow.
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: Yeah. That was a beautiful answer.
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: It's a great one. Yeah, that was beautifully said. And girlfriend,
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: I could see all of that happening for you because
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: even we've been with you the last, what, hour, hour
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: and a half and your energy, what you stand for,
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: who you are.
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: It's going to happen. And the legacy that you hope
- 1:30:36Speaker 2: that you are creating, you are. So I'm so bad
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: at taking compliments.
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: No, no, you are.
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: You are creative, but you are incredibly thoughtful as well.
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: And so keep doing keep just carrying that with you.
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: And I know that you're not going to ever allow
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: anyone to change who you are, but we're here to
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: remind you just to stay true to who you are
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: and keep going. And you just are a beautiful person
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: inside and out.
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: You guys are awesome.
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: It's been beautiful to hear your story and to just
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: see where you are at in your life and where
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: you are going and you gained two more fans.
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: And supporters.
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: And I'm such a fan of you guys, too. Oh, wow.
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: We appreciate it. It's amazing. Yeah. I do want to
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: end with our question.
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: So we started this last episode. You will receive a
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: question from our previous guest. Ooh. And I will present
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: that to you.
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: But we also want you to ask a question for
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: us to give to the person sitting here after you.
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: And see what the question is. Isn't this fun?
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: This is cool.
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: Have you guys seen it yet? Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. Was
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: there a moment when you realized that you're more like
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: your parent than you thought? If so, how did that
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: make you feel? What a great question.
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: Is that good? Great question.
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, so many moments. I think there's always
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: mixed feelings on it. Because I think it's very easy
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: to blame your parents for Um, especially if you're like, well,
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: I wouldn't have done it that way. Well, if I
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: was in your position, I just would not have treated
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: me that way. But as I've grown and like realized,
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: I just want to be happy instead. I've just tried
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: to have like, so just compassion. Like, yeah, just try to,
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: just try to understand like, okay, I wouldn't have done
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: it that way, but I'm a different person. I was
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: raised differently. And that's just how you know how to
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: like handle your cards right now. And I've never doubted
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: that they haven't loved me. But I will say that like,
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: I will say, I think I'm so different from my mom.
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: Like in my head, I'm just like, vastly different. We
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: don't have a single similarity in my mind. That's just
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: how we are so, we grew up so different. I
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: was such a little tyrant and she was such a girl,
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: such a girly girl. And I think as I've grown,
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: I've leaned more into my femininity, but I was wearing
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: board shorts and I was wearing rash guards instead of bikinis.
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: I was not, I was not trying to do that.
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: Like she's super into fitness and I'm not trying to run.
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: Like I'm not.
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: Trying to run.
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: Even just like how we like are, I think is
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: inherently different. But recently it was for her birthday. Her
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: friends and I, we all got drunk together.
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: Oh, that's fun.
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: And her. Yes. And I think it was one of
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: the first times where I was like, Wait a second.
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: She was very free of inhibition. And there was just
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: like moments where I was like, oh my God, that's
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: literally all me. And my friends tell me all the time,
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: like Lucky will tell me like, girl, you're just like
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: your mom. And I'll always be like, what are you
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: talking about?
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: Like, no, I'm not.
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: And I was like, wow, you're funny. I think you
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: guys and your parents are kind of funny. I'm like, wait,
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: you guys are funny. Now I see where I get that.
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: And now I see where I get that. And, like,
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: I think now it makes me really happy to see.
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: Because it's kind of ostracizing if you don't see yourself
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: in your parents, I think. Because it's like, well, where
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: did I come from then? Like, if I'm not like you,
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: then who do I get to be? But, yeah, I think, like,
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: seeing a lot of the good and the bad in
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: both of them, it's like, okay, that's okay. So, yeah,
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: being drunk with her.
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: I was like, you're actually really, really cool.
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: You're laughing at the same thing I'm laughing at right now,
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: which means you have my humor. And you're actually, like,
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: really cool. So, yeah. My mom is really cool. All
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: my friends literally are obsessed with her.
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: I met your mom. She's so sweet.
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: And they think she's so funny. And, like, of course,
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: when you're, like, the daughter, you're like, my parents are
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: not that funny. Like, guys, stop.
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: You're glazing.
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: Not your glazing. No, they're actually, like, really, she's really funny.
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: And she's really cool. So, yeah. I think, yeah, that's
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: how I'd answer it. I'm very happy now when I
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: get to see myself in my mom and dad. It's
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: very cool. It's very cool. Especially when you have like
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: a sense of who you are, then you get to
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: like see the things that you love. And if there's
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: anything you don't, you get to pay attention to that.
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: And then you're like, okay, I'm going to focus on
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: that so I can do things a little differently. Yeah.
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: I love it.
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: It's everyone's first time.
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: Beautifully said. Beautifully said. Well, you don't have to share
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: with us your question, but you can write it and then...
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: Wasn't that good? It was a great question. We have
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: her question and.
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: We will pass it to our next guest. I hope
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: they like it.
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: No, they will. Again, you were phenomenal.
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: So good.
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: We had an incredible time.
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: You guys make it so easy to settle in and
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: talk and not.
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: Feel any pressure. That's definitely a compliment.
