Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning. We're talking all this week about the five C's,
- 0:10Speaker 1: 5 things you should be looking for in someone that
- 0:14Speaker 1: you are dating or someone that you would marry. 5
- 0:18Speaker 1: C's that you're looking for, and they go in order
- 0:20Speaker 1: of importance.
- 0:22Speaker 1: We've seen on Monday, they should be a Christian. They're
- 0:26Speaker 1: a believer in Jesus Christ. You want to build your
- 0:30Speaker 1: life with someone else who has the thing that's most
- 0:34Speaker 1: important to you is also most important to them, and
- 0:36Speaker 1: that is their relationship with God. You want to marry someone.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Who has this relationship with God that is going to
- 0:44Speaker 1: help you work through the struggles of life. Secondly, not
- 0:48Speaker 1: only a Christian, but a committed Christian, someone who is
- 0:51Speaker 1: putting God first in their life, because all that the
- 0:54Speaker 1: Bible describes of how God wants to be involved in
- 0:57Speaker 1: our lives, it only works when he's at the centre
- 1:00Speaker 1: of our lives, not if he
- 1:02Speaker 1: Out on the periphery somewhere, but we are the centre,
- 1:04Speaker 1: not even when your spouse is the centre of your life.
- 1:09Speaker 1: It only works when God is the centre of your
- 1:11Speaker 1: life and when the two of you have God at
- 1:13Speaker 1: the centre of your lives. That is the recipe for
- 1:17Speaker 1: a great marriage. The third C that is important is
- 1:21Speaker 1: that they are a person of character.
- 1:23Speaker 1: A person of character that you want to build your
- 1:27Speaker 1: life with. The 4th C we looked at yesterday, they
- 1:31Speaker 1: are competent. That is, they are able to do the
- 1:34Speaker 1: things that are needed for raising children, for taking care
- 1:38Speaker 1: of a home, for providing for the family, that this
- 1:42Speaker 1: also is there.
- 1:44Speaker 1: The 5th C, OK, these are the 5 most important things.
- 1:48Speaker 1: This is the least important of the 5, but it's
- 1:50Speaker 1: also important and cannot be ignored, and that is chemistry.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Whew, aren't you glad that one's in there.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Because you don't want to just have this marriage that's like, uh,
- 2:03Speaker 1: this marriage where you're just thinking through everything and all
- 2:05Speaker 1: the pieces fit together, but there's no passion, no chemistry,
- 2:10Speaker 1: of course you want the chemistry. And when the Bible
- 2:13Speaker 1: describes a beautiful marriage in the Song of Solomon in
- 2:17Speaker 1: the Bible, uh, the book that parents don't like their
- 2:20Speaker 1: teenagers to read, uh, you find this definite chemistry happening
- 2:26Speaker 1: in that book, right, this passion.
- 2:28Speaker 1: So it starts off in chapter one with the girl
- 2:34Speaker 1: writing about Solomon. Let him kiss me with the kisses
- 2:39Speaker 1: of his mouth, for your love is better than wine.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Your anointing oils are fragrant. Your name is oil poured out. Therefore,
- 2:48Speaker 1: virgins love you. Draw me after you. Let us run. Well,
- 2:53Speaker 1: there's some passion there, isn't there?
- 2:55Speaker 1: Uh, some real chemistry happening and when you look later
- 2:59Speaker 1: in the chapter and you have his perspective on her
- 3:05Speaker 1: and she, he says, behold, you are beautiful, my love, behold,
- 3:11Speaker 1: you are beautiful, your eyes are doves, behold, you're beautiful,
- 3:15Speaker 1: my beloved, truly delightful. I mean, there's chemistry happening there,
- 3:21Speaker 1: isn't there.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Now, uh,
- 3:24Speaker 1: It's a fact
- 3:26Speaker 1: You cannot maintain that level of passion throughout years of marriage, right?
- 3:32Speaker 1: You would never get anything done or accomplished in your marriage.
- 3:36Speaker 1: But as you start your marriage, there has to be
- 3:39Speaker 1: that passion, there has to be that excitement about being together,
- 3:44Speaker 1: and as you build your relationship with that chemistry, that
- 3:50Speaker 1: Excitement about being together that provides you with the beginnings
- 3:56Speaker 1: of what grows into a deep, lasting,
- 4:02Speaker 1: Love relationship, right? It's the least important, but it's still important, chemistry, uh, uh,
- 4:10Speaker 1: our kids are all young adults now and it's fun
- 4:13Speaker 1: watching them when they may be kind of low on energy,
- 4:17Speaker 1: and then their special person rings them on the phone
- 4:20Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, the energy is there, the excitement,
- 4:24Speaker 1: or when they come over, everything's different. Well, that's the
- 4:28Speaker 1: chemistry that you're looking for, right?
- 4:31Speaker 1: Again, you're not able to sustain that every day through
- 4:36Speaker 1: years of marriage. Your love becomes deeper.
- 4:40Speaker 1: But that chemistry still comes and goes. These five C's
- 4:44Speaker 1: are really important as you're looking for who you'll date
- 4:48Speaker 1: and who you'll marry. They're Christian. They're committed. They have character.
- 4:56Speaker 1: They are competent and there's chemistry.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I'm John North.
