- 0:00The following program is produced by the Tech Talk Radio Network, where the cable
- 0:04guy and you're listening to tech come Radio. Welcome to another episode of tech
- 0:10Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean Weird, and I'm justin Lemmey.
- 0:14It's good to see you guys. A lot going on. Yeah,
- 0:19it's a business last week for us. Yeah, it has been a week
- 0:22now. Why is it busy for you? Sean? What do you guys
- 0:24got going on all season? Oh? Dude, yeah, man, the
- 0:27order Dame football baby. If this is you know, if this episode comes
- 0:31on on Saturday, we'll be playing USC Saturday night. So that's gonna be
- 0:38a good game. Be a good game, really good teams, you know.
- 0:42Yeah, come on, man, have faith? Is that? Is
- 0:45that one of your favorite sports on campus? There's? Sean? Is is
- 0:48football the big It's the biggest that it's the It's the most amount of effort
- 0:52we put into a broadcast for We don't do the broadcast. We do the
- 0:55video board show, but we support NBC in their broadcast. But it's fun.
- 1:00It's an environment. It's just everything surrounding the weekend, right because there's
- 1:03always stuff on Friday night, there's always stuff on Sunday, so it's just
- 1:07a lot going on and Friday, Saturday Sunday. Now I'm wondering, like,
- 1:11when Notre Dame comes on the field, do they play the theme from
- 1:15Rudy Great Terry Golden. If I could never hear the theme to Rudy over
- 1:21again in my lifetime, it would be too soon. So they do,
- 1:25No, they don't. They don't, but they do play it in the
- 1:27concourse before the game. And it's the whole Rudy thing is, Yeah,
- 1:34what are your what are your days off? Yeah? Do you take days?
- 1:37It depends on the like I have Thursday off this week. Like it's
- 1:42what depends on what's going on. And you're bringing never rest, doesn't it,
- 1:45because aren't you thinking about the production for Friday Saturday? For the sports?
- 1:51Oh, I've got hockey. Hockey also started last week. We had
- 1:55our first two hockey games Saturday Sunday this best weekend. So hockey, hockey's
- 1:59in full Football is in full swing, Volleyball still going, Soccer still going,
- 2:05basketball, men's and women start soon. So it's just a NonStop until
- 2:09March Madness. I've got to the point now where because I've told I told
- 2:13Eric, you know that you work for Notre Dame. So whenever we're watching
- 2:16TV in a Notre Dame game comes on the TV, he frantically waves the
- 2:22TV all the time when Hi Sean, Hi Sean, Hi Sean, because
- 2:27he thinks that you're actually like I told, well, okay, he thinks
- 2:30because I kind of told him. I basically told him that you're responsible for
- 2:34whatever we see on TV when it comes for Notre Dame. So he thinks
- 2:37that, you know, you're the director, You're the guy calling all the
- 2:39shots, which you know, that's fine. Let him think that, and
- 2:43I'm the one that makes it. I know I kind of think that too.
- 2:46I kind of imagine you just mind the booth, like take camera one,
- 2:49camera one, go camera three, get ready camera three, take camera
- 2:53four, no camera five, camera five, now camera five. When we
- 2:54played Ohio State, I got a text for my cousin with a picture of
- 2:58this TV scrades it camera six is to focus, and I said, I
- 3:02took a picture of the big monitor wall. Find to me. You know
- 3:07what I was thinking would be cool. You got to do this, And
- 3:09I know people have done this kind of thing before. Sean record some stuff
- 3:14right like like a game, and then suddenly cut to a shot of you
- 3:19looking at the screen, waving and then holding up a sign saying, hey,
- 3:23Eric, I'll be your having ill that okay, Yeah, you played
- 3:29in a regular game justin Yeah, you know, I'll just yeah, I'll
- 3:31put it up on I'll cast it to my TV and I'll be like,
- 3:35oh, look, it's the Notre Dame game. And then if Sean cut
- 3:38him be like hey Eric, and then he'd be like, oh my god,
- 3:42that's awesome. I could I'll put in a shot from the control room
- 3:46so it's got the camera in the control room with everything going on, right,
- 3:49Yeah, you can say, hey, that's Sean in the corner.
- 3:51That would be Yeah, that would be awesome. We'll do something like that
- 3:53and I'll just cast it to the TV during the next game. He won't
- 3:57even know the difference. I know that justin You've been pretty busy too with
- 4:00all the stuff that goes on with you know, where you're at, as
- 4:03well a lot of tech stuff and everything else. So you know, finding
- 4:06that time to be able to unwind and maybe order the latest smartphone has been
- 4:15something that you had to do this week. Well, I think Sean and
- 4:17I both guessed, you know, while we were talking about the iPhone fifteen
- 4:21last week on the show, that you were going to be getting the Pixel
- 4:25eight and that that looks like you are getting it. Yes, all right,
- 4:30as of well by the time this show airs, I probably will have
- 4:33it. It's actually got shipped today, so I should have it tomorrow or
- 4:38Thursday by the latest. Long story short, I want a gift card by
- 4:41doing a survey, and it was a five hundred dollars gift card. And
- 4:45then on top of that, I'm with, you know, because I use
- 4:47my cell phone provider is Google Fi, so it's it's it's Google's own cell
- 4:54phone service. So I through Google Phi. They give you a four hundred
- 4:59dollars off the new Pixel eight Pro, plus my trade in of my Pixel
- 5:03six Pro was like one hundred and twenty five and then plus that five hundred
- 5:08dollars gift card. So basically on top of that, all I had to
- 5:11do is pay for like the taxes, surcharge fees, you know whatever,
- 5:14and a little bit of extra money on top. It came to like one
- 5:17hundred and twenty five dollars out of my pocket for a brand new Pixel eight
- 5:21phone. So yeah, pixel e pro so, Yeah, I'm going to
- 5:26be getting that. What was you know this week? Well, Sean and
- 5:29I last week talked about the fifteen, and we were talking about, you
- 5:31know why we probably wouldn't update to the fifteen, and you know with the
- 5:36fourteen, Sean, which one are you at now? You're on thirteen,
- 5:40the thirteen pro Max, I'm year thirteen, I'm fourteen pro Max. The
- 5:45fifteen doesn't seem like it's going to be a step for me. We'll see
- 5:47what happens with the sixteen. I mean, if if you follow my leaps,
- 5:54you know, I went from the from a flip phone to the four
- 6:00to the seventh plus Wow to the thirteen plus thirteen pro So I've got about
- 6:06four or five more years ago. You're gonna be Yeah, you're gonna be
- 6:10going for a while, as long as they make sure it's still working.
- 6:13But so there was there wasn't too much. It made us say, yeah,
- 6:15you know the big Seale tool. We talked about it last week's titanium.
- 6:18I still don't get it. Most people are going, I don't get
- 6:20it. What does that mean? What does that do for the phone?
- 6:24People just say it's it looks, it's you know, stronger, it looks.
- 6:29That's about it. But what made you say Pixel eight gotta have it?
- 6:33Well, I mean I'm an Android guy. I mean I've always,
- 6:38well not always, I mean i've I've done iPhone. I think the last
- 6:40iPhone I had was the iPhone. You had the sixth, right, haven't
- 6:44six and seven? Maybe? Yeah? Whatever? Anyway, No, Google
- 6:47is just better, I mean, or not Google itself, but just Android.
- 6:50Well I guess that is Google. Android is is better in my opinion.
- 6:54I mean everything that Android does, I've told us mentioned so many times,
- 6:58you guys are tired of hearing it. But everything that Android has,
- 7:00iPhone gets a couple of years later, you know, and they and they
- 7:02claim it like, oh look what we did. No you didn't. You
- 7:04kind of stole it from Android. But I've been a Pixel person for the
- 7:09last let's see one two. This would be my third pixel phone. So
- 7:14I had the Pixel four was my very first, then the Pixel six Pro,
- 7:20and now I'm going with the Pixel eight Pro. Now, the reason
- 7:24I chose this, there's a couple of different reasons. But one the display,
- 7:29it's it's it's very on par with the iPhone fifteen. It's it's an
- 7:32o Lead LTPO display one hundred and twenty hurtz HDR ten. It also has
- 7:38twenty four hundred nits at its peak brightness, which is actually better than the
- 7:44iPhone two thousand knits. Obviously four hundred nits brighter than the iPhone on its
- 7:48max. I love the Gorilla glass on it, but also the Android fourteen.
- 7:54The chips that they put in the new Pixel eight fro pro is the
- 7:57new Google Tensor G three. It's amazing. It has a lot of features
- 8:03in it that the iPhone will probably have in I don't know the iPhone twenty,
- 8:07I guess, but it has features with AIS. For instance, like
- 8:11best shot is one of the coolest things. You take a bunch of photos,
- 8:16Like you got you and your friends all together, and you got that
- 8:18one friend that's like looking off to the side, or the other friend that's
- 8:22not smiling, or the other friend with half an eye shut during that one
- 8:24photo. But you got another photo where the other people look good, but
- 8:28then you don't look good. Well, this is AI. It uses AI.
- 8:31It'll stitch together those photos to give you that one perfect shot, no
- 8:35matter how many you know you take, like five or six photos of the
- 8:39same thing, the same pose. It will intelligently stitch those together to give
- 8:43you the best photo where everybody's looking at the camera, everybody's smiling, wow,
- 8:48whatever. And you can even use the AI to like somebody who's like
- 8:50kind of like sitting there like a straight face, you can put a smile
- 8:54on them. Okay, that's an AI. That's creepy. Yeah. Not
- 8:58only that too, but the camera always top of the line. So iPhone
- 9:01Android, you know, Google Pixel especially, they go back and forth.
- 9:05It's year after year they go back and forth. So right now, you
- 9:07know, the iPhone fifteen was the best camera until yesterday when the or a
- 9:13couple of days ago when the Google Pixel eight came out. It's got the
- 9:16best camera. It's a fifty megapixel one point so an f stop twenty twenty
- 9:20five millimeters wide. It's got an ultra wide camera telephoto lens forty eight megapixel
- 9:28on that one. It does video four K at sixty frames a second.
- 9:31That's good, or can do ten adp up at two two hundred and forty
- 9:35frames per second. So I mean, it's just it just blows the iPhone
- 9:39out of the water in terms of what it can do. Now, what
- 9:41I will say one of the things that I've liked with the Samsung S twenty
- 9:46three, which I got a chance to play around with, was that digital
- 9:50zoom. That zoom is just absolutely amazing. You know, if you know
- 9:54how to use it. There is a little trick to getting it to work
- 9:56right, to getting it into the box. And you know, I saw
- 10:00a demo the other day where somebody was showing the S twenty three and zooming
- 10:03in on a building that was far away and actually going right into a window
- 10:07and seeing, you know, a lamp that was sitting on a table.
- 10:11It is pretty garn impressive. You know. I always thought, oh,
- 10:15you got a great shot of the moon? Who needs a shot of the
- 10:18moon? However, I will say that's been pretty good. I was a
- 10:20little disappointed we did not see that type of quality of shot available from iPhone
- 10:26fifteen. Is the Pixel eight going to be able to replicate something like that
- 10:31or is that really something we're only seeing on the S twenty three. Well,
- 10:35Samsung. Samsung is another huge player in the smartphone industry, and they
- 10:39do run Android, but they run their own version of Android, and so
- 10:43yes, Samsung is also very well known for the quality of their cameras.
- 10:50So I can't really speak to Samsung because it's not a true Android. Again,
- 10:54it does run an Android operating system, but it's like, I don't
- 10:58even know how to compare it. They take Android and they kind of make
- 11:01it their own. So yeah, no, I don't know to answer your
- 11:05question to your point, I don't know if the Google Pixel eight pro will
- 11:11be able to do that, but as soon as I get my phone,
- 11:13I will definitely try and report back. You know, we we've seen a
- 11:16lot, and we've got a great email that ties into what you were talking
- 11:18about. We've seen so man, the diferent services, Mint Mobile, you
- 11:22know Ryan Reynolds thing that he sold off, but he's still there spokesperson.
- 11:26There's other ones the cellular that are out there that have many different plans.
- 11:31In our discussion last week with Eric Flammobile Eric flam from Sola's Hotspot, there's
- 11:37over two hundred different carriers that their hotspots connect to. And if you missed
- 11:41that interview, you can find it up on our website. But I'm one
- 11:46of the emails that we got in was from Andrea and she wanted to know
- 11:50about Google Fi and I knew I know nothing about Google Fi. She said,
- 11:56Oh, yeah, you know, I've heard Google Fi is a great
- 11:58source. Is this to replace my carrier? And is it a inexpensive alternative?
- 12:03You mentioned Google Fi, so I'm just gonna put it right into your
- 12:07lap. Well, Google fight. You're right Google Fi as a carrier,
- 12:11they're the same as AT and T or Verizon or T Mobile, Sprint,
- 12:16you know, whatever you want to call them. No, is it only
- 12:18available in some areas? No, because no it should. It's available anywhere
- 12:24because Google Fi rides off of the T Mobile network. So just the same
- 12:30thing, same thing as like US Cellular or Mint Mobile or Boost Mobile.
- 12:35Okay, they are all writing off of a different network. I think Boost
- 12:39rides off of AT and T. No, Verizon, Mint Mobile rides off
- 12:43of AT and T. Google Fi rides off T Mobile. All right,
- 12:46So these are low cost carriers that basically rent bandwidth from the major carriers.
- 12:52So so Google Fi is its own carrier. You don't have to say,
- 12:56oh, do I have to go to T Mobile to do this? No,
- 12:58you go to five f I dot Google dot com, FI dot Google
- 13:03dot com, or just just google it Google Google five. So it's a
- 13:07wireless carrier, so basically they will send you you can you can buy a
- 13:11phone directly from them right now. They've got a great promotion, to be
- 13:15honest. If you buy the Google Pixel eight or the eight pro, uh,
- 13:20you can get free Google Watch two on them or the new Google Pixel
- 13:24Pro Buds two. They even have cavingback. They have cashback deals right like
- 13:30cash back too, Yeah, so you can you can also do that,
- 13:31but it's a it's a really good deal. So if you're kind of like
- 13:35thinking of switching but no, Google Fi again rides off T Mobile. T
- 13:39Mobile is available almost everywhere, so as long as you have a T Mobile
- 13:43coverage, you can have Google Fi. The thing that we personally like about
- 13:46Google Fi is, well, there's two things really. One is international.
- 13:50So when we go to Japan, as we often do. Uh, when
- 13:54we go to Japan, we are automatically added to their NTT DoCoMo network as
- 14:00a as a paying customer, not not somebody who's you know, paying on
- 14:03the spot, as like a tourist like oh I need I need sell access
- 14:07today. No, we're a paying customer, so we get priority access to
- 14:11the network. So we're just like any other Japanese person in Japan with Google
- 14:15five, whereas with Verizon you're paying extra to go to Japan. You're paying
- 14:20like ten dollars a day, and then you're on the bottom of the queue
- 14:22for data, so like you get the last possible effort type of data.
- 14:28Anyway, But that's one reason. The other reason is we use Google Photos.
- 14:33That's basically where we store all our photos with Google. With the Google
- 14:37account, you get I believe it's one hundred gigs of storage for your Gmail
- 14:41and Google Photos and Google documents and all that stuff for free Google Drive.
- 14:46Yeah yeah, so if you pay extra money, you get more. I
- 14:50pay ninety nine dollars a month to get a terabyte, but because I'm a
- 14:56Google Fi customer, I also get an extra terabyte, so you get too,
- 15:00terribies. Ninety nine bucks a month is a lot of money. No,
- 15:01no, no, no, no, sorry a year? Oh okay,
- 15:05that's not that bad. Did I say a month? You said a
- 15:07month? I was like, called, that doesn't seem like a good deal.
- 15:09Sorry, no, no, what do you think it's shoun that's a
- 15:13lot of money. Yeah, yeah, my bad. So but people can
- 15:18have Google Photos, Google Drive, but again they're getting limited and they don't
- 15:22pay anything for it. But with Google Fi, not only do you get
- 15:26the phone service, maybe your phone because a lot of people like to finance
- 15:30their phone. They don't want to pay for it, they can finance it
- 15:31through Google five. I had no idea you could do this. I thought
- 15:35you had to be in a specific area and that was it. No,
- 15:37you're thinking like Google Fiber, you know, a Google Fiber the home,
- 15:41the home fiber where they only offer in select cities. No, no,
- 15:43no, no. I I can understand why you think that because of it
- 15:46made such big news. But Google Fi is just a nationwide coverage. You
- 15:52can get it anywhere. Now we see Verizon and other companies like T Mobile
- 15:56now doing home you know, the home Internet basically provide a modem and the
- 16:00whole bit for your homes for you to have Internet in the home. Is
- 16:04this something Google Fi Fiber would end up doing or well, you know,
- 16:10years ago they stopped doing any more expansion to the Google Fiber network. I
- 16:15want to say this was they stopped back in twenty eighteen or twenty nineteen because
- 16:19they offered it in like Kansas City, that was the big place, Kansas
- 16:23City. And then a few other select cities in the Midwest and things.
- 16:26But now they're actually coming back with Google Fiber and they're expanding on it,
- 16:32so they're coming to even more cities. I think they picked out like a
- 16:34couple cities in Montana and Idaho. I think there's one in southern Colorado.
- 16:40I think New Mexico is on that list somewhere. They haven't come to Denver
- 16:44or anything, but yeah, don't I don't think Google Phi would get involved.
- 16:48But because Google Fiber and Google Phi Wireless are pretty much still the same
- 16:55company, because it's Google, I could see them working together somehow, right,
- 16:59Like, if you have a Google Fi customer, then you get I
- 17:02don't know, extra bandwidth or something that seems like a pretty good deal.
- 17:04I don't know. So again, but you had to you had to walk
- 17:07away from what's the downside? Were you on Verizon? I was, so
- 17:12you had to walk away from Verizon and I did then? And then were
- 17:15you a hesitant? I mean, that's that's always scary going to another carrier.
- 17:21A little bit, I think a little bit to begin with. But
- 17:22honestly, price was the biggest concern for us, and we were paying close
- 17:29to two hundred and twenty a month. I think with Verizon and I think
- 17:33now with Google five we're paying like one hundred and thirty. But the thing
- 17:36is, what's the downside, you know, being on Google's as a carrier,
- 17:40what's the downside? You're working with Google. They're giving Google even more
- 17:45of your data. That's true, the downside. Yeah, and I've already
- 17:48given I already give my pictures, my emails right now. I give them
- 17:52every single phone call, every single text message, you know, I mean,
- 17:55yes, there's a downside. The thing is dative for market Well,
- 17:57I mean you think I don't know if you for marketing or whatever. I
- 18:00mean, I'm sure they probably do. But you know, welcome to twenty
- 18:03twenty three first off, but every company does that to a certain degree.
- 18:07You know, Verizon sells your information, at and T, Microsoft, you
- 18:11know, everybody tells your information. Wait, even Apple, do you sells
- 18:17your information? Do you guys think Facebook does? No? Let me ask
- 18:23you what is going on with Facebook and it's sponsored pages? Now, I
- 18:27know, Sean, you're not on Facebook, so you haven't seen it.
- 18:30I don't know if you've noticed it justin but a lot of people have been
- 18:34commenting that as you scroll. It used to be you'd see a friend's post,
- 18:38a friend, a friend, a friend. It's not. Now it's
- 18:41like seventy ads sponsored a friend, something you might like, a friend,
- 18:48something you might like. It's gotten to the point where it's like a little
- 18:52overkill. It's ridiculously overkill, yeah, on Facebook's part. And the same
- 18:56goes with Instagram and Twitter. Facebook. I don't know about Twitter anymore.
- 19:03I really don't you mean X or yeah or x. I mean, I
- 19:06don't know if people are really using that. And really I'm noticing like counts
- 19:11on pages that I used to see tons of likes for just not not up
- 19:15there anymore like it used to be. Things are changing, but people are
- 19:18starting to wake up to, you know, social media. I mean,
- 19:22I know, Sean can sit here and be like, I told you this
- 19:23stuff back in four years ago, eighteen Yeah, whatever, No, we
- 19:26all knew it. We all know it, and now more and more people
- 19:30weird because it's weird because I don't feel like it's been that long since I've
- 19:34been off of Facebook. But I got rid of my Facebook in twenty nineteen.
- 19:40Wow, okay, twenty nineteen. Yeah, And if I've been in
- 19:41the best four years of your life, and I can't. I mean,
- 19:45I remember what Facebook felt like when I did that, but I don't know
- 19:48what it's been like since. So I have no I don't want to,
- 19:52I have no say in the conversation about it. I honestly think if you
- 19:55were to jump back onto Facebook, Sean, you'd be like, oh,
- 19:57what the hecks? I mean, I can't occasional like caate little laberphone out
- 20:02and she'll be scrolling through and I'll just kind of watch what she's scrolling through
- 20:04and stuff and just oh, she'll show me something that her mom liked on
- 20:07Facebook or my mom liked on Facebook. So I still see some of it,
- 20:11but I'm not actively engaging with it. Yeah, right. But the
- 20:14thing is, I think people are starting to wake up to this and about
- 20:17you know, these big tech companies, and you know, especially the younger
- 20:21generation, you know, the ones that were raised on devices, They're starting
- 20:25to wake up and go, wait a second, these guys aren't here for
- 20:29our benefit. Everybody's starting to realize the age old mantra, if you don't
- 20:33pay for the product, you are the product. Just thinking of the same
- 20:37thing, and and and I think people are starting to realize that, and
- 20:41they're starting to find other ways of of doing stuff. You know, Facebook
- 20:45has been on a decline for years now. Instagram is still as popular as
- 20:49ever, if not the most popular one out there. Snapchat had a meteoric
- 20:53rise a couple of years ago, but it's kind of leveled off. TikTok
- 20:56had a meteoric rise, but it's also so starting to fall off, partly
- 21:02due to be the fact that you know, China, you know, Oh
- 21:04my god, I was watching this video about ten Cent. You guys know
- 21:08ten Cent right, No, I know, fifty cents. Ten Cent is
- 21:15like his fifties, like second cousin. Okay, No, ten Cent is
- 21:18is basically the largest gosh, man, it is the largest company, one
- 21:25of the largest companies in China. And theory team no, no, no,
- 21:29no, that's like a that's like an Amazon type of thing or whatever.
- 21:30Ali Baba is like the Amazon. But no, no, it's nothing
- 21:33like that. Ten Cent is like an investment company, but it is literally
- 21:38just an arm of the Chinese Communist government. But they own so many different
- 21:45things. They own Discord. They own a fifty no thirty thirty seven percent
- 21:49share of Discord. They are the majority shareholders of Discord. Why do you
- 21:55why do you? First off, if youybody doesn't know what Discord is,
- 21:57It's kind of like this online chatla. It's kind of takes back to the
- 22:00old days of doing like AOL chat rooms and stuff right right where you can
- 22:04create channels. They call them channels. That's like a chat room and you
- 22:08can all just invite your friends and it's all free. Everything is free.
- 22:11How the heck does Discord make money? Because ten Cent owns most of Discord
- 22:18and they're harvesting all of your data. All this data is going back to
- 22:22China. This is crazy. I know I'm sound like a conspiracy theorist here,
- 22:26but it's crazy. This company. This is why everything is free.
- 22:29You're like, oh my god, this is too going to be true.
- 22:30Because it is. It's too going to be true. You know, you're
- 22:33sending all your data to China. When we think about it, though,
- 22:36like okay, so Amazon this past week did their big sales bucket. You
- 22:41know, of course, it's kind of like a you know, almost like
- 22:42they're what do they call Prime Day and they did a special event. And
- 22:47what I was told is they do this because at this point of the year,
- 22:52because let's face it, starting next month, and of course November is
- 22:56going to be some big shop yeah, shopping days for Christmas. Some people
- 23:00might be buying stuff for Christmas. Most people are looking at smaller items,
- 23:03as they did this past week. However, they even if you are looking
- 23:07for something, say Sean, you're looking for, you know, something for
- 23:11your studio, or something for Caitlin or Justin you're looking for something for for
- 23:15Mesa, whether it be a handbag or you know, or or some type
- 23:19of electronic gadget she wants. First off, if I bought a handbag for
- 23:22Mesa off an Amazon, she'd kill me. Okay, I don't know how
- 23:26that works. Okay, no, all right, but but either way,
- 23:30so you look at it. Once you look at it, they know that
- 23:34Justin or Sean has looked at this device. So around the holidays you're gonna
- 23:40get curated, you know, ads for that product that you looked at.
- 23:45Hey, look, because you're gonna have more money to spend around the holidays
- 23:48for gift giving. So it's kind of a it's strategicy, you know,
- 23:52folks on them. I don't. It's well, it's strategicy. So that
- 23:55way, oh, yeah, totally. They can strategize and say, well,
- 23:57maybe they won't buy it now, but maybe the buy it closer to
- 24:00the holidays. It's the same idea behind we were just talking about this in
- 24:04pre show. He's the same ideas the same psychology in a way you know
- 24:10that uh you know, well, no, actually we're talking about different time.
- 24:14But I can see this. I can see this with Amazon, I
- 24:15can see this. It's kind of the same because psychology is like a drug
- 24:18dealer, like, hey, here's a sample. Here's a little sample.
- 24:21Let's let's let's let you get up up to it, right, and then
- 24:22bam, when you need it, Bam, here it is. You know.
- 24:25Yeah, but they are that's how they make money. They know people
- 24:27are going to be shopping at this time of year, right right, so,
- 24:30or at least looking, so they get right and they want you to
- 24:34come back. And they've already got the data knowing the kind of stuff that
- 24:37you're looking for. Let's face it, I still get the ads for the
- 24:41gaming chairs because I've been looking for those, uh for you know, any
- 24:45hardware that I shop for, and they just keep coming because they know I've
- 24:48looked at it in the past and they don't mind throwing it six seven months
- 24:52later, maybe he's writing now. Same goes for if you shop for cars
- 24:56online or what you see the price ass could be different than what I see
- 25:02the price ass totally, yes, absolutely, because they know how later.
- 25:07No, I was reading an article two about it's like they know, you
- 25:10know, based on all the data you've giving him, they know how much
- 25:12money you make. So let's say I make four hundred thousand dollars a year.
- 25:17Let's say Sean makes fifty thousand dollars a year. Okay, the price
- 25:21for me is good at what I'm just I guess it on the dot.
- 25:26Guess it on the dot, the lower tax bracket there. No, I'm
- 25:29just I'm just giving an example. Okay, But let's say so the price
- 25:33for me is obviously going to be higher because they know I have more money
- 25:36than it will be for Sean in this example because he makes less money.
- 25:40Interesting because I'm desperate, Yeah, yeah, yeah, Well, if you've
- 25:45made fifty thousand dollars a year, you probably shouldn't be shopping a bunch on
- 25:48Amazon. But maybe TIMU, I don't know. You know what I found
- 25:52really interesting is you know that into it owns Credit Karma. Right, Oh
- 25:57yeah, I thought this was so bizarre. I get this thing from Credit
- 26:02Karmen and I've got you know, I kind of monitor that stuff, and
- 26:04I get a thing from Credit Karma, and I never have said anything about
- 26:08who my car insurance carrier is. The whole bit. They know the cars
- 26:12that I drive, right on Credit Karma saying that I could get a better
- 26:17rate by you know, going with their their selected insurance provider. But I've
- 26:23never given that up information up Well, because your insurance company did. But
- 26:27why why would they do that thinking and then then I would leave the insurance
- 26:33company? Is because because here's the thing, like again going back to this
- 26:36point, right, you pay less for a service like oh my god,
- 26:40Google Fi is such a good deal. I can go from two hundred and
- 26:42twenty down to one hundred and thirty a month. Why because they're going to
- 26:47sell my data to data brokers who are then going to turn around and use
- 26:49it for things like that. It's it's kind of scary sometimes when you think
- 26:55about that. So they're making their money, yeah, or you gotta take
- 26:57a quick break. We come back some new products. It's a new game
- 27:00on the market. Sean gets to test out his driving wheel, I think
- 27:04so we'll talk about that coming up with tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor,
- 27:08I'm Sean de Weird, and I'm Justin. Let me find us on
- 27:12x at tech talk Radio. We'll be right back and now back to tech
- 27:18talk Radio. There was a story on several of the big big sites like
- 27:23Gizmoto, Ars Technica of the Verge about Google wanting to do away with passwords,
- 27:32and people were kind of freaking out. You know, we talked a
- 27:33lot about Google last segment, but some people then have no clue about past
- 27:41keys and what the difference is between a password and a pass key. And
- 27:45the word is is that Google would like to get rid of the passwords because,
- 27:49let's face it, nobody that is not using a password manager. If
- 27:52you're using a password manager, that's great, But if you aren't, you're
- 27:56making your passwords too easy. You know, you may I know environments that
- 28:03I have seen in the past where they have it so easy that it's ridiculous.
- 28:07It's like, how can you expect not to be, you know,
- 28:11be hacked. Even if they're not going to do any maliciousness, they could
- 28:15still log in to your account and check what's going on. So some people
- 28:19are wondering what is what is a past key? I don't know. I
- 28:25mean, it depends on what they're talking about. It could be a physical
- 28:26device. It could be like an NFC tag that you have to scan.
- 28:32They might have to start. People have to buy NFC reader or something for
- 28:34their computers or whatever. Or it could be something as simple as you know,
- 28:38on your phone you have the Google Authenticator app and use and a QR
- 28:44code or whatever on like when you're trying to log in a Gmail or whatever,
- 28:48it might say here, scan your QR code with your trusted phone device,
- 28:52and that'll be your past key. I mean, I don't know.
- 28:55It could be any of those, but that's the difference. Like you said,
- 28:56a password is something that humans have to remember. We have to remember
- 29:00what our password is or trust it to a password manager. But then again,
- 29:04you still have to remember your master password, so whatever it is.
- 29:08But a past key is something that's encoded into hardware. So from the Google
- 29:14Account help website, pass keys are a simple and secure alternative method to passwords.
- 29:19With a pass key, you can sign into your Google account with your
- 29:22fingerprint, face, skin, or advice screenlock like a pin. There you
- 29:26go, right. Pass Keys provide the strongest protection against threats like fishing.
- 29:30Once you create a pass key, you can use it to easily sign into
- 29:33your Google account and to verify it's you when you make sensitive changes. Now.
- 29:37I know Kensington is one of those companies that make a password reader biometric,
- 29:42and you know, you plug it into your USB port and you take
- 29:45your thumb put it on there, and you just use it for pretty much
- 29:48everything. I have the Uba key, which is a USB C device which
- 29:52plugs in and it offers pretty strong encryption. But that would be also,
- 29:57I guess a pass key in this disrespect It would so. But I can't
- 30:03see a lot of people just going, well, I don't want to do
- 30:06this because I don't want to have to buy anything else. How do you
- 30:08convince somebody to stop using password one two three or one two three password or
- 30:14your street name or your last name and your birthday? Yeah? Very taking
- 30:21a sticky note writing their password, sticking it to the monitor. Okay,
- 30:25So I can answer all those except for that last one, Sean. The
- 30:26first the question to answer to your question, Andy, Yeah, is you
- 30:30don't convince them you force them, like literally, you force them. You
- 30:36don't give them the option to use password one, two three, It has
- 30:38to be something with a special character or nine digits or you you you don't
- 30:45allow them to log into their account with any type of password or whatever.
- 30:49You tell them you have to use this passki if you want to keep using
- 30:52our service, which you've been using for the past twenty years, you have
- 30:56to now log in with this method. Now for you, Sean with a
- 31:00sticky note with your password on it. Yeah. Again, I guess you
- 31:03could say just take away the passwords, which is what Google, I guess
- 31:07wants to do. They're going to succeed. I think everything's going to move
- 31:10to that. So it's going to happen to sites that we use that we
- 31:11like, like one password. I mean, there's still going to be millions
- 31:15of websites out there that use passwords. I mean, it's going to be
- 31:18decades before they everybody switches over. But I would assume that those businesses must
- 31:22have a business model pivot and pivot to making hardware pass keys. People have
- 31:27been commenting too, what is the future when we think about it. Social
- 31:30security numbers, you know those are you know, those are one of the
- 31:34things we do not want hacked more than anything, because somebody, if you
- 31:38get your child a Social Security number that is with them for the rest of
- 31:44their life, if somehow that is hacked, then that can maybe not be
- 31:48used five years down the line, maybe not ten years down the line.
- 31:52It could be sold in the dark web, and of course then eventually somebody
- 31:56has access to your info and could be used for stealing you your tax returns.
- 32:01I guess maybe they're looking at it as a way that future proofing your
- 32:06security. Yes, I think so. Sean. You had a story about
- 32:09how it was accidentally leaked that we actually could see a Windows twelve by next
- 32:15year. So there's a Yeah. So Tom's Hardware, which is a pretty
- 32:19good tech blog that I like to read, they like a tweet from a
- 32:23known insider Intel leaker that had support for Meteor Lake, which is the next
- 32:32generation of Intel. I think that's fourteenth generation of Intel. Yeah, and
- 32:37it had Windows twelve listed at support with a support started first. Okay,
- 32:44first off, we all know there's gonna be a Windows twelve, But why
- 32:47is this special, right, because so next year, well, they're pushing
- 32:52they're pushing for Microsoft says they're trying to push for the three year turnover.
- 32:58I guess that means right, so right, but you gotta remember Windows seven
- 33:00was out, Windows ten came out. When did when? Okay, I'm
- 33:04gonna ask you when do you think Windows ten released? Windows ten? Windows
- 33:07ten? What year did twenty twelve? I was gonna say twenty fifteen,
- 33:14twenty fifteen? Was it twenty fifteen? Okay? So that's been what six
- 33:19years? Six seven years of Windows ten? So Windows and Windows eleven released
- 33:22in twenty twenty, right, so twenty years? So six years between Windows
- 33:27ten and Windows twenty, Windows Windows eleven actually twenty one twenty one, so
- 33:31they're trying to get that. If three years, that would be next year.
- 33:36So what does what does Apple do with their OS? How long does
- 33:37that? What is Apple's life cycle between OS eleven twelve or whatever? About
- 33:43two to three years? I'd have to look back, but I don't know
- 33:45exactly what they're what's the reason behind it? Why? Why why do they
- 33:51need to keep releasing new OS? Is? Why can't they just six?
- 33:53Yeah, well, new features, but why can't they just add those to
- 33:55the existing I don't know, money hold, maybe that's it. There's also
- 34:00there were. There was also rumors there was a blog that posted saying there
- 34:06was some scraped details that said Windows twelve was gonna have some sort of subscription
- 34:09model. Interestine, whoa. But then that got redacted and said, yeah,
- 34:15that was towards a different part of Windows that would have subscription, like
- 34:19like what sixty five or some other function within Windows that would have a subscription.
- 34:22Well, we already had that with I I want to use as subscriptions.
- 34:25So if I want to play Mind Sweeper, I have to pay a
- 34:28dollar a month. Yeah, yep, I'm thinking. Honestly though, they've
- 34:31got to work hand in hand because PC manufacturers, when it comes to Windows,
- 34:37PC manufacturers need to sell computers. And let's face it, for a
- 34:39while there, we got to the point where we were holding onto our computers
- 34:44for nine ten years. Right. I bought my laptop back in twenty eighteen,
- 34:52and I went on online the other day because it was having an issue
- 34:54and I couldn't figure out why my sound wasn't working and Skype. Turns out
- 34:58it was a Skype thing, but it actually was telling me that my computer
- 35:01is coming to the end of its life, and I'm like, what is
- 35:05that being I'm dying, man, I'm dying. I don't think wait a
- 35:09minute, we would hold on to computers for a long time. It's got
- 35:13to the point that they need to sell PCs. So having a new OS
- 35:17with a new PC and maybe running this new meteor Lake is going to be
- 35:22the way to do it. Gardner, which is a company that kind of
- 35:27takes a look at the sales of PCs, so that worldwide PC shipments actually
- 35:31declined nine percent in the third quarter of this year. Well, I think
- 35:37part of that is due to the fact that more and more people are using
- 35:40smartphones as their only source. Right, everybody's moving to smartphones, smart or
- 35:47a surface or a iPad or something along those. Yeah, yeah, I
- 35:53just mentioned being mobile is much more convenient these days. And why sit at
- 36:00a computer desk when I can do everything from my phone? I mean,
- 36:02dude, honestly, when I record this show, this is what I This
- 36:05is the only time I touch my desktop in my basement anymore. I mean,
- 36:08I've got my laptop now, I mean my laptop does everything I need
- 36:12yep. And then I got my Xbox. But I want to play games
- 36:14or whatever. But like the desktop, this is my baby. This I
- 36:15built this, this is great. I mean I got a really nice process,
- 36:19or really got a lot of remor. I don't play any games down
- 36:22here anymore. I just don't. Caitlin rarely uses her laptop anymore. She
- 36:27just uses her phone for everything. Yeah, because are work laptop too,
- 36:30But outside of work, she rarely needs needs the use of a PC.
- 36:36She does everything she needs to on her phone. Yep, So I could
- 36:38see why PC sales would be down because people just don't need to use them
- 36:44for everyday basic things. We're processing note, taking email. But if you're
- 36:50a graphic artist or a video artist or whatever it on your phone you can.
- 36:55But PC is still gonna mean yeah, the quality you're gonna get obviously
- 36:59is better on PEACE. I can understand people buying them for work related purposes,
- 37:01but right personal just you don't need a desktop anymore. But when it
- 37:06comes to total shipment, they're talking about Lenovo they had the most in the
- 37:08third quarter than HP, Dell, Apple Apples in there, Asus, acer
- 37:15uh and then the others section. But I'm wondering where does the builders section,
- 37:20because we're builders justin I don't think if somebody said, here, go
- 37:22ahead and get a computer that you're gonna go out and buy an actual rack
- 37:28system like an HP or a Dell. You're gonna say, no, let
- 37:30me see what I can build, and I'm gonna be able to put it
- 37:34together cheaper. I wonder if it falls into the same category. I think
- 37:36more people are tech savvy that they would try and build their own system.
- 37:39I mean, what what is that website we've talked about for years of PC
- 37:44Partpicker helps you put it all together and you can look at historical prices for
- 37:49like, you know, if you're looking at a CPU like, okay,
- 37:51what's the general you know, CPU sales ben and you can see a graph,
- 37:55a historical graph of how they're going down because not many people buy them,
- 38:00so obviously that means prices are coming down. But at the same time,
- 38:02you know, I guess it really depends on if you told me when
- 38:07do you need to buy? Like, do I have to buy you a
- 38:08computer? You know today? Yeah, I'm gonna go off the shelf.
- 38:12Do I have a month? Okay? Yeah? Let me please to find
- 38:15it out and I'll build it. What if you have a day a day
- 38:17to build it? Obviously you can't do it from PC part bigger because you
- 38:21got to wait for shipping time. So the best you're saying if I had
- 38:23everything, if I had everything sitting here as parts next to me, or
- 38:29I had a uber waiting for me to go to Best Buy, is that
- 38:31what you're asking? No, I mean because I like, I built one
- 38:35for that graphic shop in Tucson, told them five days and they were like
- 38:38cool, because I said, here's what a rack system would cost you,
- 38:42and here's what I can put together for you. And it was about five
- 38:45hundred dollars cheaper. And if I had to do it in a day.
- 38:47If I had to do it in a day, there's just there's no way.
- 38:51I wouldn't have enough time by the time I'd go to a local shop,
- 38:53you know, uh, to buy all the parts, get back to
- 38:55the house, put it together. Troubleshoot what I did wrong? Because there's
- 38:59all always something I've done wrong, you know, to make a power on,
- 39:02like bag of screws here, What the heck? Why do I have
- 39:06extra five screws? And why is this thing having smoke? That's not a
- 39:08part of it. I didn't order the fog machine version. Uh No,
- 39:13I probably would just go off the shelf. But if I had extra time
- 39:15and I could sit there and plan it out, obviously, you're gonna get
- 39:19a better deal if you build your own system and the experience, Yeah,
- 39:22you get better every time. Last time I built this, this last iteration
- 39:24of my desktop was the first time I never the first time I did not
- 39:29bleed while building it. Yeah, actually literally really, oh every time every
- 39:32time you fild a computer, right, you cut your cup. They're taking
- 39:37out one of the PCI spacers out of the back. Back and forth for
- 39:43the break. Sharp dude, all right, you take another quick break.
- 39:45We'll be back with more of tech Talk Radio. I'm ADYE. Taylor,
- 39:50I'm s the Word, and I'm justin. Let me find us on Facebook
- 39:52at tech Talkers. We'll be right back now, back to tech Talk Radio.
- 39:59New game just came out in game Pass earlier this week on Tuesday,
- 40:01the latest edition. I think this would be considered number eight. But they're
- 40:07just simply calling it for some motorsport. For not calling it for some motor
- 40:13Yeah, for some motorsport eight and not calling it. They're calling it just
- 40:15force some motorsport. And if you don't know what that is, it is,
- 40:20well it's Motorsport. It's a racing game, but it's a racing simulator.
- 40:24It's not arcade style. It's more of a simulator because it has accurate
- 40:30physics, accurate handling of over five hundred different vehicles, accurate track physics.
- 40:37They laser scan tracks. So it's basically the equivalent of PlayStation's Grand Turismo series,
- 40:45which by the way, got turned into a movie with the dude from
- 40:50Stranger Things that plays Hopper. Yeah, looks pretty awesome. Grand Turismo and
- 40:53PlayStation super simulation. I mean like that's exactly what's known for, is a
- 40:59racing simulation. Is it available for VR? Yes, because we're here at
- 41:04the PlayStation VR. Yeah, we haven't heard too much about VR in the
- 41:07last the last couple of months. It's kind of going through a no period.
- 41:10I think Made a Quest two is coming out. They're gonna probably have
- 41:14some some things going on with it. PlayStation VR two is out now,
- 41:17they'll here, but we're not talking about play stations. We're talking about Xbox
- 41:21right. Yeah, So with the Xbox no, there's or PC, there's
- 41:24no. I don't believe, Sean. Maybe you can do some Google food,
- 41:28but I don't believe VR is supported in Forts the motor support. But
- 41:32you can go back and forth and argue with fanboys from either side. It's
- 41:36like an age old question. It's like it's like Ford versus Chevy, Right,
- 41:42who's better? Right? You got fanboys on every side. You've got
- 41:45your Forts the fans, You've got your Grand Turismal fans. It just really
- 41:49depends on which system you're on. But I personally I've tried both. I
- 41:52tried Grand Torisma seven in the PlayStation. Awesome game, not gonna diss it
- 41:57at all, but Forts the Motorsport at the time of this recording just came
- 42:01out. I'm actually installing it right now. I'll let you know next week
- 42:05what I think of that. Oh, it's I just started installing it in
- 42:07a game pass. Now, if you have game Pass Ultimate, you can
- 42:09play it on Xbox or PC. Correct, So maybe I should fire on
- 42:13my Xbox two. I'm kind of wondering though. So with the game pass
- 42:15thing, and we've talked about this before though, you pay a flat fee
- 42:20per month and you get access to all these games. Oh my gosh.
- 42:22Yeah, game pass is amazing. Yeah, game passes. That's a lot
- 42:29of Hard four and thirty six PC games you play right now on game Pass.
- 42:34I mean, okay, nineteen ninety a month. How much do you
- 42:37pay for Netflix a month? I think sixteen seventeen months. Okay, it's
- 42:42literally that. Huh, I'm going I was gonna get rid of Disney together.
- 42:46Yeah. Yeah. You can play so many different games, and there's
- 42:50there's a there's a huge selection of cross platform games that work both on PC
- 42:55version versus Xbox version, like Starfield that new and that just came out,
- 43:00or there's a ton of games that are only available on PC. And there's
- 43:04also games that are only available on Xbox. But if you have game Pass,
- 43:07you get them all. You get everything, and a ton of these
- 43:10are like throwbacks to like the original Xbox or even Xbox three sixty. You
- 43:15know, like there's a ton of throwbacks on there. It's not great.
- 43:19It's great. Saving my quarters though, to buy the new Atari, that's
- 43:22what I wants to right Yeah. Atari's coming out with their console, which
- 43:28is going to be backwards compatible with your old Atari cartridges. So if if
- 43:35you have those, that's one of the one there. There's gonna be a
- 43:37couple versions, I guess, but one of them is going to be backwards
- 43:39compatible, and then they also will sell a cartridge which is loaded with games.
- 43:45So it's almost I don't want to say it's like ROMs, but it's
- 43:47you know, it's hard getting back to the Atari days pretty much ROMs.
- 43:52Yeah. If it's like if it's like one cartridge, a storage cartridge that
- 43:55has like a ton of games on it, that's literally the definition of a
- 43:58ROUM. Yeah. Yeah, but they're but so they're not gonna be it's
- 44:01not gonna be like a built in all in one like the like the remakes
- 44:06of the Nintendo and a Super Nintendo. It's gonna actually have a cartridge that
- 44:09you have to buy that you put into it exactly just like the old school
- 44:13days. You know, I don't know if you have to blow on it
- 44:15before you remember that you had to blow on that and then you'd plug it
- 44:17in and that was the only put put the cartridge in the freezer for three
- 44:22and a half minutes, no more, no less. Yeah. Oh,
- 44:27so many tricks to get your game stork. That was That was kind of
- 44:30the fun thing about it. There was a story on uh I think it
- 44:36was an ARS Technica. Gotta be careful what you buy online. You see
- 44:38a great deal. Just because it's on Amazon does not mean it's a tremendous
- 44:45deal. Oh yeah, they I think we we think that when we shop
- 44:49on Amazon, were protected. But it would be like going into a flea
- 44:52market and seeing somebody selling their wares and just going, oh, I trust
- 44:57it because I trust this flea market, and you buy something you don't know
- 45:00what you're gonna get. There was a story about a reviewer that saw a
- 45:04three dollars seta SSD. Of course, okay, three dollars. First off,
- 45:09there's a level of stupidity there. If they literally think that is a
- 45:14true deal, there's just stupid. They listed it as one hundred and twenty
- 45:17gigabyte SSD seta three dollars. But the thing is is you'll see sold it
- 45:23with malware. You'll see that these are well, I don't know in this
- 45:28case, but you'll see that it's been engineered to yes, give you one
- 45:31hundred and twenty gigabytes, but yet you're not getting the speed that you would
- 45:36get with a true SSD and of course not well, there was another thing
- 45:38that was this is a couple of years ago or something, maybe like five
- 45:43or six years ago, but there was like this Chinese company that was releasing
- 45:47like a one terabyte a USB stick. Yes, but then when you would
- 45:52plug it in, when you would plug it into a Windows machine, it
- 45:55would register as one terabyte, but then it would fill up only like halfway
- 46:00full, and it would say, you know, full is because it was
- 46:04it was It was basically hacked to tell the operating system, yes, I'm
- 46:07one terabyte, but I'm in truth, I'm only one hundred and twenty eight
- 46:09gigs. Yeah, And that happens quite a bit, So you gotta be
- 46:13really careful read the reviews. If you see a review and it's slamming it,
- 46:16move on. And a lot of times, you know, especially with
- 46:19these USB sticks, you know the ones that are like, you know,
- 46:21one terabyte, two terabytes, whatever it is. You know, they they
- 46:24do this on purpose because they know that not everybody's going to fill a one
- 46:29terabyte stick right away. Now, It's gonna take months, if not years,
- 46:34to fill up that stick. By then the warranty and the company are
- 46:37long gone, right exactly, And that's what that's why some people were a
- 46:42little nervous. And we talked about them last week about uh stack Social and
- 46:46you know deal direct deals. They were nervous about them, but no,
- 46:50they've been around and they're you know, they're doing reputable business. Yeah,
- 46:54yeah, definitely, but I yeah, I get your point. You really
- 46:58do got to be careful about what you buy Amazon. I know that Wise
- 47:00is introducing a brand another camera now. But even though it's funny because New
- 47:07York it was a New York Times, the New York Post had the written
- 47:09the article about not giving them any props because of the way that their security
- 47:15had been handled, and it's kind of got blown under the rug again because
- 47:19it only only happened to ten people or something. But they there's it's so
- 47:23hard to find any information about it because they're literally just scrubbing the internet from
- 47:27it, so they're whitewashing it. You. Yeah, so they've had this
- 47:30new one and even though they gave it a mention and said, oh yeah,
- 47:34Whyse's got a new product. But like the others, we can't recommend
- 47:37it. But for those people that want to take a chance and go ahead
- 47:39and get the product, you know, there it is. Now, let
- 47:43me ask the show. There's still great. They're still cheap and you can
- 47:45get you can get the wise og camera, which is a newer version of
- 47:50the original, like an updated version of the V one for seventeen ninety nine
- 47:53right now on Amazon on their website seventeen ninety nine. Sean, will you
- 47:59will you continue to wh why Scar after this this article that came out.
- 48:02I've had zero technical issues with it and I don't use the part of the
- 48:08service that was compromised, if you will anyways, So no interest in that.
- 48:15Yeah, it sucks a little bit that they didn't publicly announce it.
- 48:21They had the issue three years ago where they had the V one camera that
- 48:24had all these security flaws that literally a cybersecurity company came up and said,
- 48:29hey, whys you guys, we're gonna put you on blast because you haven't
- 48:32wrapped this up, like you guys have this glaring hole and you're security figured
- 48:36out. They figured it out, and they've put out a lot of good
- 48:39cameras and like not only their cameras, like, but they also have home
- 48:45automation stuff and I have a lot of their light bulbs, which that's how
- 48:49you can see the blue behind me. I really really like their led strip,
- 48:53their light bulbs, their color light bulbs, those of all worked really
- 48:58really well for me, so plus the doorbell camera. I'm wrapped up in
- 49:01the why stuff. In terms of their cameras, of course, yeah,
- 49:05and I haven't had a problem with them, so I recommend them to people
- 49:09because they're cheap, and I tell them they're cheap for a reason, because
- 49:14you're not gonna get the level of support you're gonna get with one hundred and
- 49:16fifty dollars ubiquity poe cameras or other things that require more fancy things right right
- 49:22now, if I had, if it was a perfect world for me,
- 49:27whyse so you could do this with a with a firmware hack if you're savvy
- 49:30enough. I want to be able to record to a hard drive on a
- 49:34computer in my basement. I want to have a streams of all my cameras
- 49:37going to there so I can put it in my own system so I can
- 49:39record all my own stuff. You can't do that without hacking the firmware's You
- 49:45can just google it, you can find it. I'm not gonna point you
- 49:46to it. That's what I want. I want the ability to be able
- 49:50to record locally internally to a NAS or some sort of wise device, and
- 49:55you don't have to rely on going to the cloud. Now I can record
- 50:00to the memory cards, but then I've got to go to the camera,
- 50:02download it to my phone. All this stuff, there's a bunch of steps.
- 50:06I want it to be native in the cameras, to record to a
- 50:08storage device on my network that I have full control over. I can set
- 50:14up my own scheduling and all that stuff through there and not have to rely
- 50:17on a cloud service. Yep, that makes sense. All right, Look,
- 50:21got a tech quick break. We come back with more of tech Talk
- 50:23Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird, and I'm justin let
- 50:27me find this online again at tech talk radio dot com. We'll be right
- 50:30back and now back to tech talk Radio. I found a website earlier this
- 50:36week. I was researching some AI stuff because I'm kind of, you know,
- 50:39geeking out about that. There's a new website. I think it's been
- 50:44out for a little while now, but it's called pie dot ai. P
- 50:46I dot ai is it and artificial intelligence with Raspberry pie. See, I
- 50:52don't know if it's I highly doubt it's runoff of a Raspberry Pie. I
- 50:57mean it's it's hosted on websites and thousands of people so I'm sure it's probably
- 51:00not Pie your personal AI. Yeah, my goal is to be useful,
- 51:05friendly and fun, ask me for advice, for answers, or let's talk
- 51:08about whatever's on your mind. So it's it's a little different than like chat
- 51:12GPT or barred or claude. Is you know chatgybt, I could, I
- 51:17could, I could, you know, tell it hey, Chatgypt. I'm
- 51:22a got a feeling a little sad today, blah blah blah, and it's
- 51:24gonna try to give me some sort of recommendation whatever. Now what pie AI
- 51:28is a little different is is it'll try to mimic a human. It'll try
- 51:34to talk to you like a human will. So you could potentially use this
- 51:39as just like a chat friend where you can just like feel like you're chatting
- 51:43with a real human friend. But you can also use it for you know,
- 51:46other things like advice or for answers. So you could use it like
- 51:50a chatgybt, like tell me how to make a small little Python script program
- 51:55that would delete a file off of a computer, and it probably we would
- 52:00tell you how to do it. I haven't dived too deep into PIE,
- 52:04but I can see andy over here. Type and fears it's actually talking to
- 52:08it. Yeah. Yeah, so you can talk, you can type to
- 52:12it, and it'll also you can have it read what it responds with actually
- 52:15in voices. You can pick six different voices. Oh, this is pretty
- 52:20interesting. I like it. I obviously was asking about tech talk radio and
- 52:23it pulled up some other show like you know, we've been at a lot
- 52:28longer. And then they asked, is that the show? And I said,
- 52:30no, I like listening to the one with Justin, Sean and Andy,
- 52:34and they said, oh, you're a regular listener. That's great.
- 52:37They do have a fun, lighthearted style, similar to the car guys.
- 52:39I didn't say that boo, I did, but with a tech twist.
- 52:45Uh. And then it's asking me about favorite segment that kind of so it's
- 52:47kind of cool. So you're helping it learn. Yeah, you're definitely helping
- 52:51it learn. Yes, of course. P I again, if you're not,
- 52:53if you're not paying for it, you are the product. You are
- 52:55helping it learn by talking to it. But yes, go ahead, Andy
- 52:58with the website. It's PI dot AI forward slash Talk. All right.
- 53:05Next week on the show, we're going to talk about something that Sean has
- 53:07done. I've done it as well, buying a kit to help you repair
- 53:12your own system. And they're out there and you got it for the same
- 53:15company. What is that company, Sean, I fix It. I fix
- 53:17it. That's it. So I've got one to great breakdown tatorials. You
- 53:21can buy parts, pieces, the tools to do it. I fix it
- 53:23dot com. All right, Well, you can even fix a logit tech
- 53:25mice, which is kind of cool. So we'll talk about that next week
- 53:29on the show. In the meantime, I want to thank you for listening,
- 53:31Tell a friend, share it. Also want to remind you if you
- 53:34have a question for the show, whether it's a tech question that you have
- 53:38or you're thinking about buying a certain product, you want to know a little
- 53:40more about it, we can look it up for you and find out maybe
- 53:44some of the particulars. Feel free to drop us an email. It's tech
- 53:47guys at tech talk radio dot com. We will get back to you again.
- 53:52Tech guys at tech talk radio dot com. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm
- 53:57Sean to Weird and I'm justin let me thank you, thanks for listening,
- 54:00have yourselves a great week. We'll see you
