- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus after ten yard line. Second to day three
- 0:09Speaker 1: wide receivers. Now in motion is Puppas left or right?
- 0:12Speaker 1: Julius Jones a single setback Matt Pumpfecks looking at the
- 0:14Speaker 1: goal line, he throws it into the end zone. Touchdown,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Saint Hawks. It's Michael Bumpas with a diving catch in
- 0:21Speaker 1: the end zone. Our ten yard touchdown reception for Pumpas
- 0:25Speaker 1: and the kid out of Washington State has found himself
- 0:28Speaker 1: a place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Welcome to Hawk Talk Preview Week four. The Seahawks traveled
- 0:37Speaker 1: to California to try to bounce back against the forty nine.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Is a lot to talk about. Before we get into that,
- 0:43Speaker 1: here's Nasa Chelby with the injury updates. Thanks bump We'll
- 0:46Speaker 1: head coach Pete Carroll step to the podium as he
- 0:48Speaker 1: does each and every week, and gave an update on
- 0:50Speaker 1: rookie wide receiver d Eskridge, who's missed the last two
- 0:53Speaker 1: games with a concussion. He can't practice today. He gets
- 0:56Speaker 1: cleared today to practice tomorrow. This that's part of the protocol.
- 0:58Speaker 1: You gotta get through the Wednesday. But he had a
- 1:00Speaker 1: fantastic weekend turn it and he feels great, and we
- 1:04Speaker 1: think he's gonna be ready to go. We don't see
- 1:06Speaker 1: any reason that he's not. So it's very We're very
- 1:07Speaker 1: positive because of what he's been through to get to this,
- 1:10Speaker 1: but this is part of the staging of it. You
- 1:12Speaker 1: have to wait one more day to get on the field.
- 1:14Speaker 1: He'd also gave an update on starting right tackle Brandon Shell,
- 1:17Speaker 1: as well as defensive end Benson Mayo. Brandon Brandon shell're
- 1:20Speaker 1: going to practice not today, not today. We're gonna take
- 1:23Speaker 1: it through the week and see how he does. Um,
- 1:27Speaker 1: he's feeling better, he's gonna he's gonna work today. On
- 1:30Speaker 1: the positive side, looks like some of the I R
- 1:32Speaker 1: guys will be back on the field this week. We'll
- 1:34Speaker 1: get Kobe Parkinson back out, Cedric will be back out,
- 1:37Speaker 1: and we're you know, those guys have worked really hard.
- 1:40Speaker 1: They're going to try to compete to be available to
- 1:42Speaker 1: play and we'll see how that goes well, you know,
- 1:45Speaker 1: one day at a time. Like I can't tell any
- 1:46Speaker 1: more in that, but both those guys are really uh
- 1:49Speaker 1: ready to go and and mentally. Now we've got to
- 1:52Speaker 1: see how they look and how they fit in. Not true,
- 1:56Speaker 1: not yet, looking towards next week to start his And
- 2:00Speaker 1: finally after tweaking his knee last week and wasn't able
- 2:03Speaker 1: to go for the game on Sunday against the Vikings,
- 2:05Speaker 1: Marquise Blair is back on the field. Marquis Lair Rackers. Yeah,
- 2:10Speaker 1: he's He looks today in the walks too. He looks
- 2:13Speaker 1: like he's ready to go. He's anxious to practice. All right.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Those are the injuries from head coach Pete Carroll. Now
- 2:17Speaker 1: it's time for what's on tap? What's on tap? Loo's
- 2:26Speaker 1: on tap? It's the division rival San Francisco forty nine Ers,
- 2:30Speaker 1: coming in with a two on one record with wins
- 2:32Speaker 1: over the Detroit Lions, the Philadelphia Eagles, and a loss
- 2:35Speaker 1: to the Green Bay Packers last week. Forty nine Ers
- 2:38Speaker 1: got off to a hot start, winning their first two
- 2:40Speaker 1: games ialy mentioned, but suffered a heartbreaking loss at the
- 2:42Speaker 1: hands of the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night and Bumpman,
- 2:46Speaker 1: it was all Packers to start. Green Bay jumped out
- 2:48Speaker 1: to a seventeen zero lead with three forty six remaining
- 2:51Speaker 1: in a second quarter. The forty Niners got on the
- 2:53Speaker 1: board just before half with a one yard touch on
- 2:55Speaker 1: run from Trey Lance, which was set up by a
- 2:57Speaker 1: miss intentional ground and call. We'll ignore that, but it's
- 3:00Speaker 1: good to see the youngster getting involved for them. Much
- 3:03Speaker 1: more balanced in the second half, trading scores. But things
- 3:06Speaker 1: got really interesting in the final minutes. Mason Crosby connected
- 3:10Speaker 1: with a thirty eight yard field goal with two thirty
- 3:12Speaker 1: nine in the game, making to score twenty seven twenty one.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Then Jimmy Garoppolo led the forty nine Ers on an
- 3:17Speaker 1: eight place, seventy five yard touchdown drive, ending with this
- 3:20Speaker 1: twelve yard touchdown pass to Kyle us Check. Kittle singled
- 3:23Speaker 1: up left, Garoppodol Backgaropodol throws over. They're middle cut by
- 3:26Speaker 1: Kyle us Check. Don't drive its church, die, Sir fred Cisco.
- 3:38Speaker 1: The forty nine Ers have tied the game at twenty seven.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Here comes Robbie Gold to give the forty nine Ers
- 3:45Speaker 1: their first lead of a night. It was all smile
- 3:48Speaker 1: as everyone's going crazy and Santa Clair, the Niners, think
- 3:51Speaker 1: they had come back and won this football game. Hard
- 3:53Speaker 1: come back. Everything was going well for him at that moment.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Thirty seconds left on the clock, but less what man,
- 3:59Speaker 1: that is way too much time for Aaron Rodgers. He
- 4:01Speaker 1: went on a six play forty two yard drive with
- 4:03Speaker 1: two clutch catches to Davante Adam, setting up this fifty
- 4:07Speaker 1: one yard game winning field goal. Here's the snap, it's down,
- 4:10Speaker 1: he has it away and he has the distance and
- 4:13Speaker 1: it is good. The Green Bay Packers win the game
- 4:17Speaker 1: at the gun thirty to twenty eight. He had just
- 4:22Speaker 1: enough time to do his thing, and his thing involved
- 4:26Speaker 1: two deep shots to Davante Adams, one to get him
- 4:29Speaker 1: to midfield team and then one to get him in
- 4:31Speaker 1: the field goal range. And even though they didn't have
- 4:33Speaker 1: a time out, he was able to clock the ball,
- 4:36Speaker 1: spike the ball just in time. Garoppolo and Aaron Rodgers
- 4:39Speaker 1: embrace in midfield. That was a hell of a football game.
- 4:43Speaker 1: So bum two. Things looks like once again, Aaron Rodgers
- 4:47Speaker 1: has proven that it's all right. Everyone relaxed. They're gonna
- 4:50Speaker 1: be just fine. After week one and these Niners man,
- 4:53Speaker 1: kind of up and down game? Would you see from
- 4:55Speaker 1: those guys? Man? I saw I saw a Niners team
- 4:57Speaker 1: that one. They didn't run the ball the way they
- 4:59Speaker 1: wanted to We're used to seeing them run the football.
- 5:01Speaker 1: They did have a rushing touchdown. They've had some injuries
- 5:04Speaker 1: in the backfield. Up, I saw a team that had
- 5:06Speaker 1: a quarterback that did just enough to keep them in
- 5:08Speaker 1: the game. Say what you want about Jimmy Garoppolo twenty
- 5:11Speaker 1: five or forty twenty fifty seven yards, two touchdowns, one interception,
- 5:14Speaker 1: a suspect fumble, but capt him in the game. George Kittle,
- 5:18Speaker 1: in my opinion, one of the best tight ends in
- 5:20Speaker 1: the league of not the best. Seven receptions for ninety
- 5:22Speaker 1: two yards and a touchdown, but it just wasn't enough.
- 5:26Speaker 1: When they drive down the fielding you scores that touchdown,
- 5:29Speaker 1: and there's thirty some seconds lap on the clock. No
- 5:32Speaker 1: timehouse left for any other quarterback not named Aaron Rodgers,
- 5:35Speaker 1: Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Russell Wilson, you know all the legends.
- 5:41Speaker 1: You're good, right, you got the game sewn up. What
- 5:43Speaker 1: I don't like about the forty nine ers defense in
- 5:45Speaker 1: that situation, In most defenses, I don't like just a
- 5:49Speaker 1: soft coverage. Man, there's no time. Just play the defense
- 5:51Speaker 1: you've been playing, right, Play the defense you've been playing.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Make these guys working all they did Nassas run three verts,
- 5:58Speaker 1: dig underneath, three verts, dig underneath. I mean, that's how
- 6:01Speaker 1: you beat that soft coverage. Fred Warner almost made a
- 6:04Speaker 1: great play in the middle of the fields to tip
- 6:05Speaker 1: the football believe in the first pass to Davante Allens.
- 6:08Speaker 1: But let's focus on the forty nine ers. I saw
- 6:11Speaker 1: a team that can still play good defense. I know
- 6:13Speaker 1: the score might not say that they were dominant, but
- 6:15Speaker 1: they played good defense and they're good enough on offense.
- 6:18Speaker 1: They still have weapons. We're gonna talk about these matchups later,
- 6:21Speaker 1: but they got some young receivers, they have a capable quarterback,
- 6:24Speaker 1: and they have a defense that keeps them in games. Yeah,
- 6:27Speaker 1: no question about it. And I think the thing about
- 6:28Speaker 1: it too, is it still resilient. Man. I mean, they're
- 6:30Speaker 1: getting House seventeen nothing in their own place in the
- 6:32Speaker 1: first half, and they stick in it. They get a
- 6:34Speaker 1: touchdown before the halfsover that ketch them in the game.
- 6:37Speaker 1: And then Jimmy Garroppico. Say what you want about him,
- 6:39Speaker 1: but he did just enough to keep the forty nine
- 6:42Speaker 1: Ers in the game. Extended drives made some great plays,
- 6:44Speaker 1: great throws down the stretch and from a Seahawks perspective.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Thank god Aaron Rodgers had some magic at the end
- 6:50Speaker 1: of that game, because if nine without that last second
- 6:52Speaker 1: rows the NFC West, every other team the NFC West
- 6:55Speaker 1: would be three and oh except the Seattle Seahawks. So luckily,
- 6:58Speaker 1: you know, misery loves company. So the forty Niners joined
- 7:00Speaker 1: us in the lost column on Sunday. So let's look
- 7:03Speaker 1: at this head to head man, and we've kind of
- 7:06Speaker 1: talked about this the last couple of weeks. It's really hard.
- 7:08Speaker 1: These head to head comparisons will hold a lot more
- 7:10Speaker 1: weight once we get later in the football season. We're
- 7:13Speaker 1: three weeks in, so we're starting to tell a little
- 7:15Speaker 1: bit of a story. Obviously a lot left to be written.
- 7:19Speaker 1: But I'll start as I usually do, on defense. And
- 7:22Speaker 1: unfortunately we don't have great performances two weeks in a
- 7:24Speaker 1: row defensively. According to the numbers, the Seahawks will fall
- 7:27Speaker 1: down those rankings, and they did, ranking number thirty two,
- 7:30Speaker 1: lasts in the league in total defense at giving up
- 7:32Speaker 1: four hundred and forty yards a game, giving up one
- 7:35Speaker 1: hundred and fifty five yards a game on the ground,
- 7:37Speaker 1: thirtieth in the NFL, and then allowing two hundred and
- 7:39Speaker 1: eighty five yards through the air, which is twenty six
- 7:42Speaker 1: in the NFL. The other side, the San Francisco for
- 7:44Speaker 1: nine ers are closer to the middle of the pack.
- 7:47Speaker 1: They're giving up three hundred and seventy yards a game
- 7:49Speaker 1: sixteenth in the NFL, one hundred and twenty two on
- 7:52Speaker 1: the ground, a twenty third in the NFL, and then
- 7:54Speaker 1: two hundred and forty eight yards through the air, sixteenth
- 7:57Speaker 1: in the NFL. So again, man, we're gonna look at this,
- 8:00Speaker 1: and every time we did this for six weeks last year,
- 8:02Speaker 1: we looked and said, this defense is better than those numbers.
- 8:06Speaker 1: They are better than what we're seeing. I wholeheartedly believe that. Unfortunately,
- 8:11Speaker 1: when it comes to the numbers and really it's really
- 8:13Speaker 1: the last you know, six quarters, we just haven't seen that. Nope,
- 8:17Speaker 1: we have not seen that. I would say they played
- 8:19Speaker 1: what three games so far my math is correct, nast
- 8:23Speaker 1: that is for a twelve quarters. I think we've only
- 8:26Speaker 1: seen really eight quarters a good full bot of this team.
- 8:29Speaker 1: They have to pick it up offensively, they're okay. See
- 8:33Speaker 1: now for the offense is like you look at the rankings,
- 8:36Speaker 1: You're like, oh man, they're pretty good. They're all right.
- 8:38Speaker 1: But then the feeling that we have is just not
- 8:41Speaker 1: good right now because the second half rolls around. The
- 8:43Speaker 1: defense can't get off the field, the offense can't get going.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Total offensive see offs rank eleventh, averaging three and eighty
- 8:49Speaker 1: nine yards per game. Rush offensive they're eleventh, averaging one
- 8:52Speaker 1: hundred and seven yards per game. Pass offense their ninth,
- 8:54Speaker 1: averaging two eighty one, and then points per game their
- 8:57Speaker 1: thirteenth with twenty five. It just doesn't feel like it's
- 9:00Speaker 1: nice to see these numbers and say, Okay, there's some
- 9:02Speaker 1: positives here. This offense can run the football, they can't
- 9:05Speaker 1: throw the football. They can put us some points. It's
- 9:07Speaker 1: just that in the second half we have not seen
- 9:10Speaker 1: that yet. The one thing I want to see on
- 9:12Speaker 1: defense man interception. This is the week. How to get
- 9:14Speaker 1: an interception? This week? Call some turnovers. That starts with
- 9:17Speaker 1: the d line putting pressure on Jimmy Garoppolo and then
- 9:20Speaker 1: that secondary getting it dumb. All right, these guys have
- 9:23Speaker 1: been rivals for a minute. Now, let's dive into the history. No,
- 9:28Speaker 1: your history you mentioned about. These teams have played a
- 9:32Speaker 1: lot over the years. The Seahawks lead the all time
- 9:35Speaker 1: series twenty eight to seventeen, Seahawks have won three of
- 9:38Speaker 1: their last four meetings, and honestly, let's be real, have
- 9:41Speaker 1: dominated this series since Russell Wilson has been here with
- 9:43Speaker 1: Pete Carroll. The Niners have made a comeback in the
- 9:47Speaker 1: wind Calm and a couple of games splitting in eighteen nineteen,
- 9:50Speaker 1: but it's been dominated most recently by the Seahawks. As
- 9:52Speaker 1: they mentioned three or four of their last meetings. Seahawks
- 9:55Speaker 1: beat the Niners in their last meeting twenty six or
- 9:58Speaker 1: twenty three and Week seventeen last year. If you guys remember,
- 10:00Speaker 1: by Week seventeen, the Seahawks had already secured the division
- 10:03Speaker 1: title and that game was pretty ugly in the first half,
- 10:06Speaker 1: but it was more about setting records that day, more
- 10:09Speaker 1: about seton records. Locket broke Bobby Ingram's receptions record he
- 10:12Speaker 1: was at ninety four. He finished day with one hundred receptions,
- 10:15Speaker 1: only Seahawks player ever to have a one hundred receptions.
- 10:17Speaker 1: DK Metcalf broke Steve Largent's nineteen eighty five record in
- 10:21Speaker 1: receiving yards, becoming the first Seahawk player over thirteen hundred yards.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Tyler and DK combined became the second duel in Seahawks
- 10:27Speaker 1: history to both have one thousand yard seasons. Only another
- 10:30Speaker 1: duo to do that was Ryan Blades and Joey Galloway
- 10:33Speaker 1: Locket that day he was used clustion we need to
- 10:36Speaker 1: set records, had two fourth quarter touchdown seal the deal
- 10:38Speaker 1: for Seattle secured to twelve wins season and that was
- 10:41Speaker 1: the last time these two teams matched up. But let
- 10:44Speaker 1: me tell you something, man, this NFC West is scary, bump,
- 10:47Speaker 1: It is scary, giving me nightmares? What's the word? And
- 10:54Speaker 1: the Seahawks were the NFC West champs again? What's the word?
- 10:58Speaker 1: In the west on Hawk talk? The NFC West continues
- 11:04Speaker 1: to be the best division of football. The Rams of three,
- 11:07Speaker 1: you know, they beat the Buccaneers last week. Arizonas three.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Now San Francisco's two and one, Just talk about them
- 11:12Speaker 1: losing to the Green Bay Packers and Dcattle Seahawks are
- 11:16Speaker 1: one and two. The NFC West is nine and three
- 11:20Speaker 1: as a group, nine and three through three weeks of
- 11:22Speaker 1: the regular season. Let's talk about these Rams, man, These
- 11:26Speaker 1: Rams are looking fears right now. The Rams had to
- 11:30Speaker 1: dominate performance against the defending Super Bowl champions the Bucks
- 11:34Speaker 1: last week, winning thirty four to twenty seven, and the
- 11:38Speaker 1: game really wasn't that close. In the fourth quarter, things happened.
- 11:41Speaker 1: You get a garbage touchdown. But Matthew Stafford, he's looking
- 11:45Speaker 1: like the piece of the puzzle that's been missing over there.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Twenty seven to thirty eight, three hundred forty three yards,
- 11:51Speaker 1: four touchdowns, zero interceptions, My dog DeShawn Jackson Callie stand up,
- 11:56Speaker 1: a turning back the hands of time. One hundred and
- 11:58Speaker 1: twenty yards, seventy five five yard touchdown. He has thirty
- 12:02Speaker 1: three touchdowns over fifty yards. That is second all time.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I wonder see you look at his total numbers. They're
- 12:09Speaker 1: not Hall of Fame numbers, but you look at like
- 12:11Speaker 1: deep ball numbers. This dude is still getting down the field,
- 12:16Speaker 1: being a threat, and he's he's in such a perfect position.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Doesn't have to be the one, the two, just maybe
- 12:21Speaker 1: that third option receiver stretched to fit out make big plays.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Cooper cup did his thing nine recessive for ninety nine
- 12:27Speaker 1: yards and two touchdowns. Sony Michelle, I mean you got
- 12:32Speaker 1: Aaron Donalds, you got Leonard Floyd, you got Jalen Ramsey.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I mean, la is Hollywood. The rams look real Hollywood
- 12:38Speaker 1: right now? They're backing it up with their play. Yeah,
- 12:40Speaker 1: they are, man, and like you mentioned it to start off,
- 12:42Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford through three games, he does look like the
- 12:45Speaker 1: missing piece. He does look like that's what Sean mcvayh needed.
- 12:48Speaker 1: He looks at this point, it looks like, yeah, you're right, man,
- 12:52Speaker 1: you just had to get up out of Detroit. You
- 12:54Speaker 1: said to get up out of there, and you're gonna
- 12:55Speaker 1: be fine. And he looks the part killing three hundred
- 12:58Speaker 1: forty three yards, four touchdowns. Everything is flown in that offense.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Him and Chan mcmay seem to be a great pair.
- 13:04Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys remember the story in
- 13:05Speaker 1: the offseason because Quandre digs Matthew Stafford has some history
- 13:08Speaker 1: good friends, teammates in Detroit. When Stafford signs with LA,
- 13:12Speaker 1: they get on FaceTime. McVeigh and Stafford hit up Quandre
- 13:16Speaker 1: and be like, boy, you better get ready. You're going
- 13:18Speaker 1: deep on you. You know what I'm saying. So it's true, man,
- 13:22Speaker 1: they look scary good and honestly, right now, I mean,
- 13:24Speaker 1: I don't want to get ahead of ourselves. Only three
- 13:26Speaker 1: weeks in that next Thursday night's going to be a
- 13:28Speaker 1: huge game. But right now they look like the class
- 13:30Speaker 1: in the NCUS. It look like the best team in
- 13:32Speaker 1: the NFC. With that question, to me, what I've seen
- 13:34Speaker 1: so far, they have a physical, strong defense, Jalen Ramsey.
- 13:38Speaker 1: You mentioned Aaron Donald Floyd. They're gonna be a problem
- 13:41Speaker 1: and you're gonna have to figure out a way to
- 13:42Speaker 1: slow them down. And you know, the Seahawks hope they
- 13:45Speaker 1: can build off what's gonna happen this weekend before a
- 13:47Speaker 1: short week on the Thursday. But Bump, these rams are
- 13:49Speaker 1: the real deal. Rams are the real deal. Puts in
- 13:52Speaker 1: respect in her name circle next Thursday night. But we
- 13:55Speaker 1: got stuff to handle this weekend. Now, next the Cardinals.
- 13:58Speaker 1: The Cardinals, they were less impressive in the win over
- 14:01Speaker 1: the Jacks. All right, oh and three. At one point
- 14:03Speaker 1: the Jacks had to lead what they took him a
- 14:05Speaker 1: missfield goal back one hundred and nine yards for a touchdown.
- 14:08Speaker 1: We're watching the game, We're like, what is going on here?
- 14:11Speaker 1: Are the Jaguars Trevor Lawrence urban Meyer. They're trying to
- 14:17Speaker 1: figure some things out over there. So it was concerning
- 14:20Speaker 1: to see them put up a fight so long against
- 14:23Speaker 1: the Cardinals, But eventually, the better football teams are going
- 14:27Speaker 1: to win the ball game. The Cardinals James Corner had
- 14:29Speaker 1: a touchdown that I like what they have so many
- 14:32Speaker 1: the skill positions, right, not a bunch of guys who
- 14:34Speaker 1: are just gonna dominate a game. But they have James Carr,
- 14:37Speaker 1: they have Rondale Moore, they have DeAndre Hopkins, they have
- 14:40Speaker 1: aj Green, they have Chase Edmonds. It's like you can
- 14:42Speaker 1: sprinkle in so many guys on this offense and they
- 14:45Speaker 1: can make plays. Kyler Murray was twenty eight thirty four
- 14:48Speaker 1: three in the sixteen yards, one interceptions, and carried the
- 14:51Speaker 1: ball seven times for nineteen yards and one rushing touchdown. Eventually,
- 14:56Speaker 1: you have to make Kyler Murray be a pocket quarterback.
- 14:59Speaker 1: You have to keep him in the pocket. If you
- 15:01Speaker 1: allow him sanprifie and get outside the pocket and do
- 15:04Speaker 1: his thing, I think that will kind of extend drives
- 15:07Speaker 1: and keeps these things going. But end of the day,
- 15:09Speaker 1: it might not have been pretty. The Jags were in
- 15:12Speaker 1: the game for a while. The Cardinals are still three
- 15:14Speaker 1: and oh, wins are wins in the National Football League.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Never apologize for wins at any level, especially in the NFL.
- 15:21Speaker 1: And we're gonna learn a lot this weekend. We're gonna
- 15:23Speaker 1: loan about the Sea how Seahawks, the San Francisco forty Niners,
- 15:25Speaker 1: the Los Angeles Rams, and the Cardinals because the Cardinals
- 15:29Speaker 1: in the excuse me, the Cardinals and the Rams were
- 15:31Speaker 1: playing at the same time as the Seahawks and forty
- 15:33Speaker 1: nine Ers. So the NFC West is gonna beat each
- 15:34Speaker 1: other up this week. But we're really gonna learn. I
- 15:37Speaker 1: just was hyping up how good I think the Rams
- 15:38Speaker 1: have been through three games. The Cardinals are also undefeated,
- 15:41Speaker 1: so it's gonna be interesting to see how those guys
- 15:43Speaker 1: match up. And if the Cardinals, who last year we
- 15:46Speaker 1: kind of thought they were gonna take that next step,
- 15:48Speaker 1: and they're always kind of right there. They're always in
- 15:51Speaker 1: the rearview mirror thinking they're gonna be Is this gonna
- 15:52Speaker 1: be their year that they really ascend. We'll learn a
- 15:54Speaker 1: lot on Sunday about them. But I totally agree with you,
- 15:57Speaker 1: Bump that you need to keep Kyler in the pocket
- 15:59Speaker 1: and make him beat you from there. And once he
- 16:01Speaker 1: can do that in a consistent basis, those Cardinals are
- 16:04Speaker 1: gonna be scary. Yes, they are, all right. We talked
- 16:09Speaker 1: about the Cardinals, We talked about the brands. We touched
- 16:12Speaker 1: on the Niners. Let's look at these matchups this week?
- 16:17Speaker 1: Is this man up on Hawk Talk Man Up. We'll
- 16:28Speaker 1: start we always do. We look at the quarterback position,
- 16:30Speaker 1: starting with Jimmy g Jimmy Garoppolo taking on this Seattle
- 16:34Speaker 1: Seahawks defense. Jimmy ge Man. He's sixty four for ninety
- 16:37Speaker 1: five was sixty seven percent passing completion for seven hundred
- 16:41Speaker 1: and sixty yards, four touchdowns, one interception. Hasn't been overly impressive,
- 16:47Speaker 1: but he put the forty nine ers in position to
- 16:49Speaker 1: win every game that he's been in. Ld a huge
- 16:51Speaker 1: comeback against the Packers last week, down seventeen points in
- 16:54Speaker 1: the first half, finish that game twenty five for forty
- 16:57Speaker 1: two hundred and fifty seven yards, two touchdowns, one interception,
- 17:00Speaker 1: one fumble. Now, bump, I'm opposed this question to you.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I'm sure we'll dig into this a lot on the
- 17:05Speaker 1: pregame show on Sunday. The last two games, the Seahawks
- 17:08Speaker 1: and faced quarterbacks that have taken a lot of criticism
- 17:11Speaker 1: over the years, Ryan Tannehill, Kirk Cousins. They've played inconsistent
- 17:14Speaker 1: in times, had up and down careers, had really high
- 17:17Speaker 1: moments at really low moments. Each week, we kind of
- 17:20Speaker 1: we've had this conversation, you know, do we think they're
- 17:22Speaker 1: for real? Are we buying what they're selling? Are they
- 17:26Speaker 1: as good as we think they are? As as as bad
- 17:27Speaker 1: as we think grew? Who knows. Unfortunately, in those first
- 17:31Speaker 1: two weeks they had big games against the Seahawks. Yea
- 17:35Speaker 1: in this week's no different man this week. Jimmy G.
- 17:37Speaker 1: He's that same type of quarterback where you're you're not
- 17:40Speaker 1: certain if he's that guy that can take you to
- 17:42Speaker 1: a super Bowl championship, but you've seen them do really
- 17:45Speaker 1: good things. So like every time we talk about Jimmy G,
- 17:48Speaker 1: he's just perplexing because when he's on, man, he is on,
- 17:51Speaker 1: and he is good and he's confident. When he's not,
- 17:53Speaker 1: he's less accurate, he's missing balls, he's been you know,
- 17:56Speaker 1: he's had his troubles with injuries and stuff like that. So,
- 17:59Speaker 1: Michael Bump, is this the week the Seahawks defense steps up?
- 18:03Speaker 1: It makes one of these kind of in between qbs
- 18:06Speaker 1: look like what all the criticisms like, it makes them
- 18:08Speaker 1: look like an average average quarterback? Or are we going
- 18:11Speaker 1: to see the Jimmy G that you know got them
- 18:14Speaker 1: to a super Bowl in twenty nineteen. Going off a
- 18:18Speaker 1: recent history, I'm gonna assume Jimmy G is gonna have
- 18:20Speaker 1: a good game. There's nothing in the Hawks have done,
- 18:22Speaker 1: and let me know that. And a good game for
- 18:24Speaker 1: Jimmy isn't isn't a Kirk Cousins game. No, you know,
- 18:26Speaker 1: good game for Jimmy's twenty fifth yards, one touchdown, didn't
- 18:30Speaker 1: turn the ball over, And I think that's okay. Jimmy
- 18:33Speaker 1: can have a good game this week and the Hawks
- 18:35Speaker 1: can be okay. History tells me that. But what I
- 18:39Speaker 1: know of his coaching staff, what I know of these
- 18:41Speaker 1: players is that they're resilient and they usually bounce back
- 18:44Speaker 1: at bench. I don't see three weeks in a row
- 18:46Speaker 1: where they just lay the guy who we think is
- 18:49Speaker 1: above at slightly above average on an average quarterback do
- 18:52Speaker 1: their thing against them. Now, they gotta tweak some things.
- 18:54Speaker 1: They gotta get better in all phases of the game.
- 18:57Speaker 1: But this ain't the week, all right, This is not
- 19:00Speaker 1: the way they're gonna get after Jimmy G. As long
- 19:02Speaker 1: as they are providing pressure, gang tackling, because they got
- 19:06Speaker 1: some receivers on the outside, we'll talk about them as well,
- 19:08Speaker 1: who can make some plays. It's all about getting Jimmy clustered,
- 19:13Speaker 1: ye right, and that's all just wants some creativity on
- 19:16Speaker 1: the defense man, some stunts, some blitz you look like
- 19:19Speaker 1: you're blissing, you're dropping back. You know a lot of
- 19:21Speaker 1: the times with the Hogs, they just line up and
- 19:22Speaker 1: what you see is what you get. And I think
- 19:24Speaker 1: Jimmy is good in those situations. Now you make them
- 19:27Speaker 1: think about some stuff, do some pre snap reads. Turnovers
- 19:29Speaker 1: are gonna happen. That's what I need to happen. Good
- 19:32Speaker 1: cannot wait for that now. Staying on the offensive side
- 19:35Speaker 1: of the ball, four Donners running backs versus Seahawks front seven.
- 19:38Speaker 1: So the four Dinners running back room has been hit
- 19:40Speaker 1: with the injury bug, as it has really the last
- 19:42Speaker 1: couple of years. The season opener Raheem Mostert was lost
- 19:45Speaker 1: for the year with a knee injury, Elijah Mitchell, who
- 19:48Speaker 1: stepped up and stepped in in that role, miss last
- 19:50Speaker 1: week with a shoulder injury, and now rookie running back
- 19:53Speaker 1: Tray Sermon made his first NFL start last week. Over
- 19:56Speaker 1: the years, it seemed like whoever is running the rock
- 19:58Speaker 1: for San Francisco and that offense was going to figure
- 20:01Speaker 1: it out and going to be effective through twenty twenty one.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Like I said, it's only through three games. Eliza Mitchell
- 20:06Speaker 1: thirty six carries one hundred and forty six yard one,
- 20:08Speaker 1: tad To Michael has six carries forty one yards in
- 20:11Speaker 1: a touchdown, and Trey Sermon eleven carries thirty nine yards
- 20:13Speaker 1: in one touchdown. The Seahawks have struggled the last two
- 20:16Speaker 1: weeks defensively. Derrick Henry Alexander Madison both went over a
- 20:20Speaker 1: hundred yards and we're getting things figured out in the
- 20:23Speaker 1: run game. This has to change this week, Bump. What
- 20:26Speaker 1: do you need to see? I know you've gotten to
- 20:27Speaker 1: dive in the film a little bit with these forty
- 20:30Speaker 1: nine ers. What do you see from them offensively? I
- 20:31Speaker 1: know they have weapons, I know they pull they're a
- 20:34Speaker 1: good downhill running scheme. What have you seen from them?
- 20:36Speaker 1: And how can the Seahawks make them look average or
- 20:39Speaker 1: at least take advantage of this perceived advantage they have
- 20:43Speaker 1: in the running back you know Front seven kind of
- 20:45Speaker 1: battle here. Well, here's a good thing about the Seahawks.
- 20:48Speaker 1: A lot of the stuff that the Niners want to do,
- 20:50Speaker 1: the Hawks have been seen in practicing again since Ota
- 20:54Speaker 1: is in minicamp and all that jet sweeves the misdirection
- 20:58Speaker 1: of the pulling guards Like it's the Niners, the Rams,
- 21:01Speaker 1: and now the Seahawks are trying to have the same
- 21:04Speaker 1: type of run game, the same type of offense. Really
- 21:06Speaker 1: get tight ends involved, miss directs, get your phone one way,
- 21:09Speaker 1: boom and hit it the other way. So with the
- 21:11Speaker 1: Seahawks is all about being disciplined, right. If you have contain,
- 21:14Speaker 1: you have contain. You're the force guy. You're the first
- 21:16Speaker 1: force guy. If you're the alley guy, that means you're
- 21:18Speaker 1: inside the forces guy. He forced everything inside. You feel
- 21:21Speaker 1: the alley, you make the tackle. It's all about doing
- 21:23Speaker 1: your job and not trying to do someone else's job.
- 21:25Speaker 1: I think that's been the common theme for the last
- 21:27Speaker 1: couple of weeks. But when you play a team like
- 21:29Speaker 1: the Niners, who you know, love to run the football,
- 21:32Speaker 1: throw off the play action, boot out of that, you
- 21:34Speaker 1: have to be disciplined with your assignment and with your eyes.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Your eyes will get you in trouble. If you're in
- 21:39Speaker 1: that backfield looking at something you're not supposed to be
- 21:42Speaker 1: looking at, you can get in trouble. So they just
- 21:44Speaker 1: they just have to be disciplined. Man. When it comes
- 21:46Speaker 1: to this running game, and and I need a big play,
- 21:49Speaker 1: I need someone on their butt early. You know, I
- 21:51Speaker 1: need a Bobby Wagoner signature. I'm getting ugh flexing on
- 21:54Speaker 1: you type of play. I need a Jamal Adams run
- 21:56Speaker 1: them down from the backside type of play. We've seen
- 21:59Speaker 1: one or two of them this year. We need one
- 22:01Speaker 1: or two of those this game to set the tone
- 22:04Speaker 1: and get these guys going another matchup. It's gonna be
- 22:07Speaker 1: a good one. Seahawks back seven. That's the dbs in
- 22:10Speaker 1: the linebackers verse, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, Kyle Chick. I'm
- 22:15Speaker 1: gonna throw Brandon Yuk in there as well. Brandon now
- 22:18Speaker 1: is a baller as well. Now Deebo Samue has twenty
- 22:20Speaker 1: receptions three to thirty four yards, one touchdown. George Kittle
- 22:24Speaker 1: best tighten in the game, fifteen receptions one eighty seven yards,
- 22:27Speaker 1: Kyle us Check. The utility guys seven receptions fifty nine yards,
- 22:31Speaker 1: one touchdown. These guys are all weapons in the past
- 22:34Speaker 1: and the run game. Deebo Samuel, He's like a running
- 22:37Speaker 1: back when the balls in his hands, They're gonna throw
- 22:38Speaker 1: screens to this guy. They're gonna run these jet sweeps
- 22:41Speaker 1: to him. When he has a ball, he turns into
- 22:43Speaker 1: the running back. He is electric. We know George Kittle's
- 22:46Speaker 1: big in the running game as far as block him.
- 22:48Speaker 1: But then you down block, you release him. He works
- 22:50Speaker 1: in the middle of the field beautifully, and you check.
- 22:52Speaker 1: He's the one who scored the goal ahead touchdown asks
- 22:54Speaker 1: and it wasn't a run, it was a pass. Yeah. Man.
- 22:57Speaker 1: They do a lot of misdirection stuff. I was looking
- 22:59Speaker 1: at one play against the Packers and it was trips
- 23:03Speaker 1: to the field. Then Roppolos in shotgun. He had a
- 23:07Speaker 1: running back to his left, so they go zone read
- 23:10Speaker 1: and then they pull the tack, the left tackle and
- 23:13Speaker 1: the left guard across the formation. Look like it's a
- 23:15Speaker 1: run outside in the trip set, Deebo Samuel's number the
- 23:19Speaker 1: number one receiver the farthest the outside kind of motions in,
- 23:23Speaker 1: puts the foot inside Boom and it's a bubble screen
- 23:25Speaker 1: outside now and in both and they had use check
- 23:27Speaker 1: I believe or Kittle as a number three receiver going
- 23:29Speaker 1: up to get a linebacker and safety. So they do
- 23:32Speaker 1: all this misdirection stuff. And like you mentioned, the thing
- 23:34Speaker 1: that you hit nail on the head on was if
- 23:36Speaker 1: your eyes are in the wrong spot, you are in trouble.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Especially in the secondary linebackers. That's gonna be a really
- 23:43Speaker 1: interesting matter up just because with all that misdirection, something
- 23:46Speaker 1: that we need to get better or this you get
- 23:48Speaker 1: better defensively is kind of defending play action. They're gonna
- 23:50Speaker 1: do a lot of play action. They're gonna do a
- 23:52Speaker 1: lot of things to try to get those linebackers downhill
- 23:54Speaker 1: to open some throwing lanes and easy throws for use. Check.
- 23:57Speaker 1: But they got the guys to do it mean kittle
- 23:59Speaker 1: and check. They're physical, they can catch the ball then
- 24:02Speaker 1: get downfield. You mentioned Deebo and Ayou and the Seahous
- 24:06Speaker 1: got their work cut out for him. You know, they
- 24:07Speaker 1: haven't been that explosive offensively, but they have really good guys.
- 24:10Speaker 1: And if you're not disciplined in what you do, it's
- 24:12Speaker 1: gonna be tough. And I think it's not you know,
- 24:15Speaker 1: it's not about just the corners, it's the whole collective unit.
- 24:19Speaker 1: They all are talented. They can play better, and I
- 24:21Speaker 1: think they will play better. They have too much challenge
- 24:24Speaker 1: defense to be ranked twenty six against the past. So
- 24:26Speaker 1: I'm expecting an enormous improvement from the Seots defense on Sunday.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Big improvements are on the way, Nasa Sholby. You heard
- 24:33Speaker 1: it here, folks. He's got he's got the answers for you.
- 24:36Speaker 1: All right, next match, Chell, we got Wayne brownbers Nick Bosa.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Now we got a big HOMEI Ray Roberts, the old
- 24:43Speaker 1: line extraordinaire. You know, he likes to say, hey, this
- 24:47Speaker 1: has to be a phone bull type of fight. They's
- 24:49Speaker 1: got to be nice and close and close combat and violent.
- 24:53Speaker 1: That's that's the life in the trenches. It is a
- 24:55Speaker 1: violent game. Now, both these guys are one of the
- 24:58Speaker 1: best at their positions, Dwayne Brown at tackle and the
- 25:01Speaker 1: Nick Bosa on the edge of the line, and they're
- 25:03Speaker 1: gonna be mashed up a lot. So they're gonna get
- 25:05Speaker 1: to know each other. They already know each other kind of,
- 25:07Speaker 1: but they're gonna get to know each other and it's
- 25:09Speaker 1: going to be a steady grime, right Ken, Dwayne Brown
- 25:13Speaker 1: get Nick Bosa frustrated. Nick Bosa is gonna try to
- 25:16Speaker 1: wear Dwayne Brown down. He's got spin moves, he's good
- 25:19Speaker 1: with his hands, he has a speedy rush. He has
- 25:20Speaker 1: the bull rush. He's gonna present a lot of challenges
- 25:23Speaker 1: for Duwayne Brown. But Dwayne Brown has been around the
- 25:25Speaker 1: block a couple of times. Yeah, thirty six years old,
- 25:27Speaker 1: he's been there. He's done that. This is a battle
- 25:29Speaker 1: you have to watch, especially because it's gonna happen a
- 25:32Speaker 1: lot on the blind side of Russell Wilson. Yeah, he
- 25:35Speaker 1: primarily lines up on that right, defensive right, offensive left,
- 25:38Speaker 1: and he's gonna he's gonna get a lot of pressure.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Watching the Packers game specifically last week. He had a
- 25:44Speaker 1: decent game, but a lot of what he did didn't
- 25:46Speaker 1: show up in the statue. You watch him, he's an
- 25:48Speaker 1: impacting place. He's changing directions where runs are going to.
- 25:51Speaker 1: He's consoling the backfield pressure on the quarterback. So bos
- 25:54Speaker 1: is a real deal. He can play. The forty nine
- 25:56Speaker 1: Ers missed him a ton last year when he went
- 25:58Speaker 1: down with an injury. You know, Levin tackles three sacks,
- 26:00Speaker 1: five TfL's five QB hits on the year. So that's
- 26:03Speaker 1: gonna be a fun matchup that you guys need to
- 26:05Speaker 1: circle on your game programs and lock into that matchup
- 26:08Speaker 1: because it's gonna be really important for the success of
- 26:10Speaker 1: the Seahawks offense in their defense. And lastly, Bump, the
- 26:13Speaker 1: last matchup, WoT to look at. It's not even anyone specific,
- 26:16Speaker 1: because we know how good the offense can be. We
- 26:19Speaker 1: know how good wrestles. You know how good DC's Tyler Lockett,
- 26:22Speaker 1: Dwayne Brown, Chris Carson and Kyle Fuller, you name it,
- 26:25Speaker 1: throughout the whole everybody. It's really them against themselves. In
- 26:29Speaker 1: my opinion, they just can't beat themselves. We know how
- 26:32Speaker 1: good they can be, we know how explosive they can be.
- 26:34Speaker 1: They got to find a way they sustain drives in
- 26:36Speaker 1: the second half. It really comes down to that from me, Bump,
- 26:38Speaker 1: I mean, bottle up whatever you got going in the
- 26:40Speaker 1: first half, whatever you got going, find a way to
- 26:42Speaker 1: get it into the second half and continue. Ray hates
- 26:45Speaker 1: this momentum, whatever you want to call it. Execution. Find
- 26:48Speaker 1: a way to bottle up whatever you got going and
- 26:49Speaker 1: find a way to execute in second half of games.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Third downs, we have to be good on third downs.
- 26:56Speaker 1: I can't remember a game where the Hawks were like
- 26:59Speaker 1: sixty sin on third downs. Now they won ball games
- 27:02Speaker 1: not being great on thirds. But as you get into
- 27:05Speaker 1: the grind, of the season. You play better football teams,
- 27:08Speaker 1: you're gonna have to put drives together. If you have
- 27:10Speaker 1: a lot of third down opportunities, that means you're putting
- 27:12Speaker 1: some drives together. I just gotta see them be better
- 27:15Speaker 1: on third downs and then keep the DK training rolling,
- 27:18Speaker 1: keep the Locket train rolling. Get Chris Carson in the game.
- 27:21Speaker 1: You can't fall down. Fall back early. If you're down
- 27:23Speaker 1: seventeen points earlier, even late, then Chris Carson is no
- 27:26Speaker 1: longer a factor. Now you have Travis Homer in Who's
- 27:29Speaker 1: gonna pass pro? You see twenty five in the game
- 27:31Speaker 1: and it's late, you know that the Hawks are down
- 27:33Speaker 1: and they're just throwing the football. I want to see
- 27:35Speaker 1: thirty two in the whole game, all right. So we
- 27:38Speaker 1: talked about these matchups. Now, what is the path to
- 27:42Speaker 1: victory for these Hawks? At the forty five waits for
- 27:47Speaker 1: the staff, Michael Vickson puts it down. That kick is away.
- 27:50Speaker 1: If that kick is gon, it's gun. It's a pass
- 27:56Speaker 1: to victory. On Hawk Talk, pass to victory man. For me,
- 28:00Speaker 1: it starts on the defensive side of the football. Need
- 28:03Speaker 1: to improve in all phases. We know how good this
- 28:05Speaker 1: team can be. They just need to play like it.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Need more pressure on the QB, need better drops from linebackers,
- 28:10Speaker 1: need to tighten coverage in the secondary. It's all one thing.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Everyone knows team defense. It's all eleven hats to the football,
- 28:16Speaker 1: all levels of the defense working in unison. We know
- 28:19Speaker 1: they have the capability to do it. We saw it
- 28:20Speaker 1: week one, We've seen them do it all through the year.
- 28:23Speaker 1: They just need to hone in on it and kind
- 28:26Speaker 1: of correct what we've seen the last six quarters because
- 28:27Speaker 1: we know they can. But it will start and end
- 28:30Speaker 1: on the defensive side of the football from you bump,
- 28:32Speaker 1: start with the defense, finished with the offense. Put some
- 28:35Speaker 1: drives together. I need eleven. I mean the Vikings win
- 28:38Speaker 1: one drives a sixteen, twelve, eleven, ten, right back to
- 28:41Speaker 1: back to back. That's what we need to see from
- 28:43Speaker 1: these Hawks. Man. Put some drives together and look like
- 28:45Speaker 1: that offense that we've seen in the first half of
- 28:47Speaker 1: these last two games, in the whole game against the Colts.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Like I mentioned, be better on third downs, find a way.
- 28:53Speaker 1: So if you need to be better on third downs,
- 28:55Speaker 1: that means you need to bet on first and second down.
- 28:57Speaker 1: That means third and three to third and four is
- 28:59Speaker 1: good at third seven eight, ain't where you want to be.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Third downs is gonna be huge. Absolutely. I think you
- 29:04Speaker 1: mentioned it. I mean, I think the best part of
- 29:06Speaker 1: what you said there is we didn't even touch on
- 29:08Speaker 1: as much, is what are you doing on first and
- 29:10Speaker 1: second down? The Vikings were so good last week because
- 29:12Speaker 1: they're in third and five, third and four, third and three.
- 29:16Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, third and one. But when
- 29:17Speaker 1: you're in third and seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve,
- 29:20Speaker 1: you get Usually when you give up a sacker, negative
- 29:22Speaker 1: plan and drive, that's a drive kill. It's over. So
- 29:24Speaker 1: figure out third down starts on first and second down.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Love to see it and bump own this NFC West, man, Lease,
- 29:30Speaker 1: what's washaway what happened before. It doesn't matter that the
- 29:32Speaker 1: Seahawks are one and two. It's your first division game.
- 29:35Speaker 1: If you own the NFC West, It's one of the
- 29:36Speaker 1: first goals in the Peak Care program. Own the NFC
- 29:39Speaker 1: West first division game. You take care of business within
- 29:41Speaker 1: the division. We can forget about what happened in the
- 29:43Speaker 1: last two weeks and keep pushing it forward. Man, So
- 29:45Speaker 1: take care of the NFC West. Play Seahawks football. When
- 29:50Speaker 1: you think of Seahawks. What do you think of tough defense,
- 29:52Speaker 1: explosive offense, solid special teams. Even Myers messed up last
- 29:57Speaker 1: week he missed a field goal man first time in
- 29:59Speaker 1: thirty each prize. I mean, it just wasn't working. So
- 30:02Speaker 1: a lot of things are correct. I'm anxious to see
- 30:04Speaker 1: what they do this week. Absolutely, guys, So thanks for
