- 0:03Speaker 1: All right, man bout bleat Cap.
- 0:05Speaker 2: We hear Blast his debut album, Let's Get It, which
- 0:08Speaker 2: is a crazy thing to say out loud. Yeah, because
- 0:11Speaker 2: you have bodies of work obviously. Yeah, well six tape
- 0:14Speaker 2: sclore your shit, like right. But then, like when I
- 0:16Speaker 2: listened to the album, I understood why this is like
- 0:20Speaker 2: the debut album.
- 0:21Speaker 3: That's all I wanted to hear exactly.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I get it, like this was like you telling like
- 0:25Speaker 2: like your story using skits like for you, like, how
- 0:29Speaker 2: important was that for you to like make sure like
- 0:31Speaker 2: because we don't hear skits anymore.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's what I grew up on, you know,
- 0:36Speaker 4: thinking about fifty cents get rich and I try and
- 0:38Speaker 4: just making it bigger than just the music. So I
- 0:40Speaker 4: knew for my debut it had to be received on
- 0:43Speaker 4: a grand level. And I'm a huge fan of music
- 0:47Speaker 4: in general, but concept albums just what I was raised on.
- 0:50Speaker 4: So it was only right that's what I gave to
- 0:53Speaker 4: my fans for my debut.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Explain to me because like, if you open it, by
- 0:57Speaker 2: the way, where I want to go pizza and Burbank,
- 0:58Speaker 2: everybody come eat to fucking pizza.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I appreciate you.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I appreciate you coming through rolling up like the President,
- 1:04Speaker 2: but explain, Like, if people open the album on Spotify,
- 1:08Speaker 2: you'll see it's like broken down into four discs, right,
- 1:10Speaker 2: which is also something that's kind of like a callback
- 1:12Speaker 2: to like when we were growing up and you go
- 1:14Speaker 2: buy a double disc album.
- 1:15Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Explain.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Why you did that, because if you listen, like it's
- 1:20Speaker 2: almost like every time a disc ends, there's like a
- 1:23Speaker 2: transition into the next portion of the album.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:27Speaker 4: So it's a concept album, but it's about this character
- 1:30Speaker 4: named Bertie and he has a father son relationship with
- 1:33Speaker 4: his dad big E. So it's broken down into different
- 1:35Speaker 4: parts because the first part is the introduction of what
- 1:38Speaker 4: he's finna go through, right, and he gives them three
- 1:41Speaker 4: life lessons a woman you got no visit deal with
- 1:43Speaker 4: any of disguise as a friend and a man in
- 1:45Speaker 4: the mirror.
- 1:46Speaker 3: So each chapter he.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Goes that life lesson, Yeah, he goes.
- 1:49Speaker 2: So I didn't know because I know, like on track too,
- 1:51Speaker 2: it's like the skip between the father and son, right, Yeah,
- 1:53Speaker 2: So I didn't know if that was like a literal
- 1:55Speaker 2: interpretation of like you and your dad's relationship or this
- 1:58Speaker 2: was was this something that like, you've made these characters up.
- 2:00Speaker 4: It's indirect, it's an alternate universe of you know, my
- 2:04Speaker 4: personal experiences. But I just like to keep my business
- 2:07Speaker 4: private and put it in an art form.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure.
- 2:09Speaker 2: And even like I thought it was like there was
- 2:12Speaker 2: that interlude where you had the girl talking.
- 2:13Speaker 1: About like, you know, I was taught if at.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Anything that's worth getting, you gotta work hard for it
- 2:19Speaker 2: than her homegirls, Like now you're misinterpreting what you're.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Saying, but the woman you got no business dealing with
- 2:25Speaker 3: skin for sure.
- 2:28Speaker 2: And the other thing that I thought was jope about
- 2:30Speaker 2: this album and why I said, like, oh, this is
- 2:32Speaker 2: his debut album for sure, because there is the narrative
- 2:36Speaker 2: about blast songs that they all quote unquote sound the same.
- 2:39Speaker 1: You threw that shit out the window on this album.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Sure it was mandatory, I think, but this album I
- 2:45Speaker 4: reverted back to my childhood, like what made me fall
- 2:48Speaker 4: in love with music in the first place. And it
- 2:50Speaker 4: was a combination of different genres, different you know, different
- 2:54Speaker 4: regions all put into one pot. And I know I
- 2:57Speaker 4: did a good job of like, you know, a foundational
- 3:00Speaker 4: sound to where people are because you have your sound. Yeah, yeah,
- 3:03Speaker 4: but it's not all I am, you know, and this
- 3:06Speaker 4: displays that perfectly.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Oh so good.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Like I was like telling now Vic, I was like, Yo,
- 3:11Speaker 2: that tie record that ship is that production on that
- 3:14Speaker 2: ship is so left field, but it sounds so good.
- 3:16Speaker 4: I'm predicted they wasn't expecting that for me and tied
- 3:18Speaker 4: to La or just on some shit like that.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Is I like throwing niggas off?
- 3:22Speaker 1: You know? Sure man talk to me on this album.
- 3:26Speaker 2: You obviously had a lot of features Adison, Pact, two Chains,
- 3:28Speaker 2: tied at a sign.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I'm forgetting tons of people, but.
- 3:34Speaker 2: It's obviously, uh, your your first foot forward in terms
- 3:38Speaker 2: of the album space. Was there any sort of features
- 3:43Speaker 2: that almost made the album or that?
- 3:45Speaker 3: Definitely, But we're gonna put out at their left too.
- 3:47Speaker 4: So there's a good luck sing Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Did you already have those songs figured out?
- 3:52Speaker 3: And how so a couple of them?
- 3:53Speaker 1: How soon before we get it?
- 3:55Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 3:55Speaker 4: It's still in the works right now, so I don't
- 3:57Speaker 4: want to give you a concrete date.
- 3:58Speaker 3: But it's definitely happening.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Is the deluxe disc five?
- 4:02Speaker 3: Oh? I didn't even think about that. I'm not as well.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Spot.
- 4:06Speaker 1: This club is the dog.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's fire. You know, we talk about the
- 4:14Speaker 2: moment we ran for West Coast hip hop right now,
- 4:17Speaker 2: and you know, I feel like you and Roddy have
- 4:20Speaker 2: been carrying the torch in terms of commercial success with
- 4:24Speaker 2: music over the last few years, in terms of like
- 4:26Speaker 2: you turn the radio on, no matter what city you're in,
- 4:27Speaker 2: you're gonna hear Roddy Rich can hear blasts, right, But
- 4:31Speaker 2: I feel like with what's happening with the pop out
- 4:34Speaker 2: and not like us and this moment, it feels like
- 4:39Speaker 2: a once in a decade or two opportunity for LA
- 4:42Speaker 2: to take hip hop back like it was in the nineties.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Like do you feel that too?
- 4:45Speaker 4: I feel that same energy. It's crazy because Roddy just
- 4:47Speaker 4: hit me too. Even behind the scenes. It's not what
- 4:50Speaker 4: I love about. It is not just on the surface,
- 4:52Speaker 4: Like I'm talking to niggas that I've never really talked
- 4:54Speaker 4: to and we've been rubbing showed s for years. So
- 4:56Speaker 4: just that at Genu with connection, it felt like this
- 4:58Speaker 4: is what the city really needs.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Yeah, like you always hear that, right, Like people will
- 5:02Speaker 2: always say that about LA, Like LA artists don't move
- 5:04Speaker 2: together like they're doing it last.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Right, right.
- 5:05Speaker 2: I feel like now it's like, yo, that moment kind
- 5:08Speaker 2: of just made it because everybody's.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Like, man, it's crazy. He just called me. We just
- 5:11Speaker 3: talked on the phone for like twenty minutes about nothing
- 5:14Speaker 3: that's crazy, nothing that I had to do with music,
- 5:16Speaker 3: so shit like that.
- 5:17Speaker 4: Just keep the energy organic to where the music is
- 5:19Speaker 4: just a cherry on top one hundred percent.
- 5:21Speaker 2: It was just so it was so dope to be
- 5:23Speaker 2: at the Forum and seeing you come out BEINGO, come
- 5:25Speaker 2: out Rambo. I mean, it was just it was just
- 5:28Speaker 2: it was obviously dope for you. Did you understand the
- 5:31Speaker 2: gravity of the moment, Like.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Nobody knew what they was walking into, you know, So
- 5:36Speaker 3: like being.
- 5:37Speaker 4: There, I was more of a fan than happy to
- 5:39Speaker 4: be on stage. I was just happy to be there.
- 5:41Speaker 4: But that shit was heavy, like Nigga, I'm still digesting
- 5:44Speaker 4: the whole night.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Like the weekend, just on the side of the stage
- 5:46Speaker 1: and the hoodie.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Like lebron Ja.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Yeah exactly exactly.
- 5:50Speaker 2: It's like crazy, like the guys you didn't make it
- 5:51Speaker 2: on stage, you know, Rick Ross was there.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Nobody talks about.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Rick Ross was right.
- 5:55Speaker 2: You know, it's regularly for you man, talk to me
- 5:59Speaker 2: about your important to this album for you and like,
- 6:02Speaker 2: you know, you've done things you and Vic and the
- 6:05Speaker 2: Eagle Movement, you guys have done things your own way.
- 6:08Speaker 2: From the jump, you guys took a non traditional route
- 6:12Speaker 2: to the music industry in terms of working with Rebel Records,
- 6:14Speaker 2: in terms of like the staff that you guys put together,
- 6:17Speaker 2: the creative control you guys put into everything, whether it's
- 6:19Speaker 2: the music, videos, the artwork, to merch everything from day
- 6:22Speaker 2: one has been high level. How important is it like
- 6:25Speaker 2: to kind of like get this body of work out.
- 6:28Speaker 2: It feels like it's like three or four years in
- 6:30Speaker 2: the making, and like so much hard work and so
- 6:32Speaker 2: much I mean, you got hit records, you know what
- 6:34Speaker 2: I'm saying.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Like everything is important.
- 6:36Speaker 4: I think everything aligns to where it protects the creativity
- 6:40Speaker 4: because I'm trying to be in it for the long run,
- 6:42Speaker 4: you know. So at the end of the day, if
- 6:43Speaker 4: I'm able to have my business in order, then it
- 6:46Speaker 4: only enables the music to be ten times better. So
- 6:49Speaker 4: and I love how artists is able to thrive independently.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Now it's like we can win, We can connect with
- 6:54Speaker 4: fans at the click of a button. On the other side,
- 6:56Speaker 4: of the country, like things like that is what I
- 6:58Speaker 4: protect and what I check. So I just put my
- 7:01Speaker 4: all into the music and you know, keep my business intact.
- 7:04Speaker 1: What's your favorite? Give me like two or three your
- 7:06Speaker 1: favorite songs on the album. I can't ask you what
- 7:07Speaker 1: your favorite is because I'm sure.
- 7:08Speaker 4: They're probably gonna switch, but right now I want you
- 7:11Speaker 4: to know. And then ten Summers are better. It's the
- 7:15Speaker 4: final track with Kamasi watching, which is fire, Grand Finale, Beautiful,
- 7:20Speaker 4: the Grand Finale.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Yeah, how hard was it to sequence the album because,
- 7:23Speaker 2: like with a concept album, while you're recording it, do
- 7:25Speaker 2: you know like where it's gonna go or do you
- 7:27Speaker 2: like go back and say, oh this fits in this man.
- 7:31Speaker 4: We probably had like four different versions of the track list.
- 7:34Speaker 4: But you know, my boy City James, who helped me
- 7:37Speaker 4: come up with the script behind the short film My
- 7:39Speaker 4: boy c B and sound Wave pretty much made it
- 7:42Speaker 4: just like a roller coaster to where it was unpredictable,
- 7:45Speaker 4: but it's still aligned with the story of the short film,
- 7:47Speaker 4: you know.
- 7:48Speaker 3: So there's a lot of different versis.
- 7:50Speaker 2: How was it working with a guy like sound Way
- 7:52Speaker 2: from is an architect who a lot of the early
- 7:54Speaker 2: Kendrick and all of Kendrick to be those underrated producers ever.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Exactly, they need to show that man.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Wow, but he don't got to tag.
- 8:02Speaker 3: His catalogs speak for this.
- 8:04Speaker 1: But you know what's crazy is like the producers with
- 8:06Speaker 1: no tag, they ever get the props and love that
- 8:08Speaker 1: they deserve.
- 8:09Speaker 3: That's that's his whole character. He don't care about He
- 8:11Speaker 3: don't care.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Like Tara smart Imagine Terry Smartin had a tag, they
- 8:14Speaker 2: almost would be very un terror.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Smart life exactly. No shout, I'll sound you man.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Deluxe on the way?
- 8:22Speaker 2: Are you are you like once you get an album out,
- 8:25Speaker 2: are you like kind of kicking back or you like
- 8:26Speaker 2: now it's time to go and work with Roddy.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Now it's time to go.
- 8:29Speaker 3: And yeah, I mean I'm trying to stay active.
- 8:31Speaker 4: We're still gonna be doing activations after this that along
- 8:34Speaker 4: with the album and then you know, you got tour
- 8:36Speaker 4: as well, so I'm excited to get back on the road.
- 8:38Speaker 4: But yeah, I still want to stay active with other
- 8:41Speaker 4: artists as well.
- 8:41Speaker 3: From the city.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Most important were you bringing out on tour with you?
- 8:44Speaker 3: You know yet haven't announced that.
- 8:46Speaker 4: Yeah, he trying to get the exclusive high now it's
- 8:49Speaker 4: coming something someone from LA.
- 8:53Speaker 3: I don't worry about nothing. I don't worry about nothing.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Uh, it's the tours coming soon, end the summer.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Actually in a couple of months, end of summer. Yeah,
- 9:03Speaker 3: it's like September fall.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Yeah, fall summer narrative.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Man, we'll look.
- 9:06Speaker 1: The album is out right now. I appreciate you coming.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Through the pizza shop, absolutely enjoying some vegetarian pizza.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 9:12Speaker 1: You got to get back on the meat man.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Pause, super pause, and we're going to end on that note.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Guy, superpaslastic vegetarians.
- 9:24Speaker 1: I'm on keto.
- 9:25Speaker 2: I can't even eat pizza, but yo, the album is amazing, brother,
- 9:27Speaker 2: the amazing body of work.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Congrats man, there it is fire good ship
