  [SPEAKER_00]: January 19th, right now, we're talking about different players for the Jack Wars that offer some potential cap savings in 2026 if the Jack Wars decide to move on.

  [SPEAKER_00]: contract, a player is not the only way the Jaguars can save money and we can get into that more on a different show.

  [SPEAKER_00]: This show is going to be focused again on the players or contracts that the Jaguars can save money by cutting the player, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: And when I say save money, I really mean save cap space.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It's not about the money for the Jaguars.

  [SPEAKER_00]: With his checkbook, his bank account, that it's not about the money for the Jaguars.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars will do whatever they need to do, money-wise, real money to make the cap work for them.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The issue is, just in the camera, the issue is,

  [SPEAKER_00]: And it is a bit of an issue.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The jackwars are currently like five to ten million dollars over the salary cap.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Don't have the official number for what the salary cap will be in 2020.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Six, but this is just a early primer to kind of look at some of these contracts that the jackwars could potentially move.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Now, they could restructure those contracts.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Sure, they could add void years, they could get them signing bonus.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But Eric Armstead, he's got $17 million, $17.1 million in dead money, $2.285.

  [SPEAKER_00]: in cap savings if the Jaguar has cut him pre-June 1.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And we have to have this pre-June 1 discussion every year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Cutting a player pre-June 1 means as soon as the league year opens, as soon as free agency opens, that cap space that you saved by cutting that player is available, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: Now, again, that's only $2.285 million in cap space, that's not a lot.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And there's another player for a lua can who is kind of in that same boat where the jack wars have 4.26 million dollars in dead money on foie lua can contract 2.592 million dollars in cap savings.

  [SPEAKER_00]: However, NFL teams are granted 2 post June 1 cuts every year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Those cuts are where you cut the player, whenever you cut them, they're immediately available on free agency or in free agency, but you don't get the cap savings from that move until June 1st.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Now, if you wanna play that game,

  [SPEAKER_00]: cutting up layer and getting the cap space for it post June 1st, it gives you more long-term cap health and it can also help you sign your rookie class.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Like if you wait a little bit to sign the rookie class, you can sign the rookie class with that type of savings.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And the type of savings that Eric Armstrong said and FOIA Liu can offer post June 1, Eric Armstrong said you only have a $4.9 million

  [SPEAKER_00]: and then 14.485 million in cap savings.

  [SPEAKER_00]: For a look, and is a $6.8 million dead cap it, and $10 million in cap savings.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But again, that cap does not get freed up until June 1st.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So that's kind of the trade off there.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And now, the other thing about those two players is,

  [SPEAKER_00]: Eric Armstrong said I thought did a good job for the Jaguars this year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: For a look, and always does a good job for the Jaguars.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Getting back into the pre-June one, the normal cut world, going again down this kind of, this list here, Trayvon Walker.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He's in his fifth year contract.

  [SPEAKER_00]: All of his money is cap it.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think the Jaguars,

  [SPEAKER_00]: would be wise to, if the jackwares are going to be tied to travel and walk our long term, the smarter play is to try to get his deal done this off season.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You're going to save cap space, you're going to save money.

  [SPEAKER_00]: For travel, he might say, I'm going to bet on me that I'm going to have a better year in 2026 that I did in 2025.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think he's

  [SPEAKER_00]: I'll probably would get a little bit more than Josh Heinz Allen got just because it's been a couple years now, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, 30 million something like that, but if he goes out and has like an all-world year that he's capable of in 2026, he could be a 40 million dollar man per year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So anyways, Trevon Walker, if the Jack Wars decide to, uh,

  [SPEAKER_00]: give him a contract extension this offseason, that $15.1 million that capit can be reduced greatly via signing bonus, which I guess we can go ahead and say here, signing bonus.

  [SPEAKER_00]: If you sign a player, you can pro-rate that signing bonus money over the length of the contract from a salary cap perspective and pro-rating means just spreading it out over the length of the contract.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And that effectively reduces the year one

  [SPEAKER_00]: Patrick McCary, the Jaguar is basically having no savings by moving on from him.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Pre-June 1, post-June 1, it's still not great.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It's only $3.5 million in cap savings with $11.3 million in dead money.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think you're keeping Patrick McCary around and Liam Cohen talked about the, I'm not Liam.

  [SPEAKER_00]: James Gladstone talked about the idea of having continuity across the offensive line.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I do think the Jaguars are really excited about that.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And I think Patrick McCary when healthy was playing better down the stretch for the Jaguars before that back injury.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You don't really have any way to save with Walker little.

  [SPEAKER_00]: the contract that Trent Balky wrote on that one was, well, it wasn't like a crazy big deal, 15 million dollars per year for a starting left tackle at the time.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It was not a contract set up to be able to get out of it very easily, right, for the Jaguars.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So he did a couple of those types of deals at the end of his tenure.

  [SPEAKER_00]: pretty annoying honestly, but because he wasn't doing that before, but it is what it is.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But Walker little, a lot of folks think that they'll try to trade Walker little.

  [SPEAKER_00]: What I want him starting for my football team?

  [SPEAKER_00]: No, he's a good, I think he's a good backup, but not a good starter.

  [SPEAKER_00]: At this point, unless something changes, and he played way better before this year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Every time he had an opportunity to play a left tackle in the past before this year, he played better.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So I think he will definitely be around for the Jack Wars.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And when I say no cab savings, I mean, there's technically a little if you want to do post June one for Jordan Lewis, but it's $1.4 million versus a $11.3 million in dead money.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So it's just, that's not worth it for a player that you actually value, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: Devon Hamilton.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Really big dead money, 10.5 million, 1.89 million in cap savings, pre-June 1, post-June 1 with Devon Hamilton.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He is one that could make sense as a post-June 1 cut with $8.4 million in cap savings.

  [SPEAKER_00]: If you decide to move on from Devon Hamilton, post-June 1.

Ezra Cleveland kind of in the same boat there with nine point two million dollars in cap savings post June one but again the jack was only up to post June one designations along with every other team are they gonna use them i don't know i think both of those players are players they like as recleveland did a good job for the jackwords this year and demand hamilton as joshines allen has put it was one of the most dominant

  [SPEAKER_00]: He was a big piece to their run defense being as good as it was this year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So part of the quote unquote problem with this salary cap table is none of these players are players you really want to move on from so far outside of like Walker little.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Obviously not going anywhere to Kobe Myers just signed his deal obviously not going anywhere.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Again, we can do the post June one conversation with Robert Hainesy, $5 million in dead money, $3.4 in cap savings.

  [SPEAKER_00]: All right, you got Eric Murray, again, I don't think he's going anywhere.

  [SPEAKER_00]: These deals that they wrote last off-season, they really get into a point after the 20,26 season where you could potentially look at moving on from some of those guys, not before the 20,26 season.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Nothing you're going to do about that, uh, Logan Cook, you're not going to move on from Logan Cook.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I personally, if I'm building out like how do we improve this Jaguar's offensive line, I probably would try to trade Walker and and cut Chuma and then try to add two pieces to those, you know, to replace

  [SPEAKER_00]: 100 long it's about dead even 1.375 million dollar dead money cap hit and 1.382 million dollar cap savings so they could move on from both of those tight ends they could keep both of them I'm not sure exactly what they're trying to do.

  [SPEAKER_00]: instead of having a superstar backup quarterback and when I say superstar, I mean like, instead of having like in a leap backup quarterback that in-game, they'll have a player that they like to have in that room supporting the room.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And then if they have an injury at the quarterback position, they might go make a move for a backup that they feel more comfortable about winning games with, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think the most interesting ones to watch are the more expensive veterans, Eric Armstead, foie, Luca, foie, Luca, and Devon Hamilton as a Cleveland.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It feels like the Jaguar's roster is in a place where it's going to be pretty stable.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They've got to find, you know, they've got some free agents, they've got 12 free agents, got to decide who they're going to keep, but they're going to let walk.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But it's going to be a lot about like trying to upgrade, I think, either via a big swing

  [SPEAKER_00]: trying to upgrade certain areas of your roster to create superpowers, to create advantages week to week.

  [SPEAKER_00]: We've talked about that with like creating a 12 person L package that could be really dynamic with Britain strange and another young tight end in the draft.

  [SPEAKER_00]: We've talked about, you know, adding up front to the defensive line.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I also do think the jag wars, they know their secondary needs to be better.

  [SPEAKER_00]: That's one area that's gonna be interesting.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Buster Brown is a free agent, Greg Newsom is a free agent.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think they're gonna try to bring back Buster.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They're gonna make Travis Hunter a starting corner.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They're gonna have Jari and Jones and Jordan Lewis.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think bringing back Buster Brown and getting Travis Hunter back could just be those big pieces and then, you know, adding a secondary coach, which they don't currently have.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They have their defensive backs coach and their assistant defensive back coach still in place, but they fired or moved on from Ron Myless their secondary coach.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So definitely that area of the team is going to have a lot of attention on it, focus on it, but I think you're upgrading

  [SPEAKER_00]: The defense of past rush a little bit, I think that you're upgrading some part of your offense trying to get that done.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Cause 12 person L package, if you get somebody who can catch and block, that can help you.

  [SPEAKER_00]: That can be a huge improvement.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And then I think also just again, if you can trade Walker little, maybe cut Chum and Adoga and try to upgrade those two spots with players you like moving forward.
