Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_02]: I knew nothing about the restaurant business.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: I was literally going to the grocery store to get the food for the restaurant.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: She was like, do you know what she says?
- 0:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, no, never heard of it.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: We could have looked at each other as competition.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: Instead of collaboration.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: She was doing well.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: She didn't have to.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_01]: I made all my money back in like six months.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_02]: That was a six hundred thousand dollar investment.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_01]: In the back of my head, I'm like, if I ever get the opportunity to work with her, I'm taking it.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_02]: I went and looked at a location in Miami four years ago, and everything that I could think of was wrong.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_02]: Keep in mind, we pay the deposit, and then they just stop picking up, and we found out they sold it to somebody else.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_01]: We have 33 Shandaliers.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_02]: I said, Ebony, I think six is good.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_02]: We need to, this is Miami.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_02]: Miami was the scariest deal, because Miami location is $2.3 million.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the social group podcast.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: We find dope people would have dope conversations about building something big, and this is gonna be no different.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: We have two dynamic women here on this episode that I really interested in how they built the things that they built, and not only how they,
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: Manage that but how you manage the successful life mentally physically emotionally all that stuff because winning doesn't mean you win in all areas It seems we mean you have a one area that you dominated, but a person is a totality of a human being so I'm excited about this conversation how are you ladies?
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm good.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm great.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: Today.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: Let me, let me promise nothing to do today.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna call it a fight on answer.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: You know, every day is different.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I am excited when I could put one foot in front of you to other some days.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: Today, I'm excited that I got my children on the bus on time.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: This week has been a hard week of getting them on.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: They haven't gotten on time on the bus at all.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: So I have found myself driving my car.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: He's got yours.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's a combination.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's a combination.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: This is the week before Martin period, so there's a lot of extra homework that needs to get done that wasn't done.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: There is redemption, things like OK, you got 80, but I want you to have a 95, because it starts off, you know, points low.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: So it's been a lot of that.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: So that time, that's normally 930 or 10 is now 1130 is.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like, you need to actually, I will sleep missed the bus.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, I'm excited that today they made the bus.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like I've accomplished being a better mother because they got on the bus and got their work done.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: So everyday is different.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know?
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: For those that don't know, introduce yourself.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: I am Yandy Smith.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: I am a stereo entrepreneur.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: I have produced some TV shows.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'm super excited about being at Ron Sleron's own up with my girl over here.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: Hey.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: I own a magnificent skincare line called Yel Skincare.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: I love that.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: I love that.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, and your business partner.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_02]: I am Ebony Austin founder of Nuval Bar and Grill.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: I also am a co-founder of Luxell Realtors, and I also have my own Willis State Investment Company.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, how do you manage all that?
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: It's hard.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's hard.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: Do you feel okay?
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: Let me ask both of y'all because both of you do a bunch of stuff.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe this is the place that I'm in right now.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: Do you believe that if you stop doing all the stuff that you're doing and you pick the one that one thing will grow exponentially greater than all the stuff you've got going on right now?
- 3:13[SPEAKER_02]: I do believe that, but sure, I've tried it.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't think it's a good idea because then your other business takes second in it.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that if you kind of splits some time, okay?
- 3:23[SPEAKER_02]: If I'm gonna give the rest around 60% of my time, I'm gonna give the real estate company, maybe 30% of my time.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: And once you start doing that, and I'll give probably my property investments, 10% of my time.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_02]: now I'm feeding into everything that I have versus just solely focusing on one thing because I've seen you focus on one thing it grows and it's amazing but the other things started to fall and you know behind but I think that's my question I mean okay so you produce movies you
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so for me, I make sure the businesses that I start, they can feed and bleed into each other so that I can focus in total and make everything great, right?
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: So with the reality show that I produced, I made sure that whenever there was something new that I was doing, it was a part of the storyline, always.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: The reality show that I was on was particularly a marketing strategic plan for me.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: That's, I didn't ever want to be famous.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even like doing my hair, I don't really like makeup, I never get my nails done.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, it was really about how can I use this to create visibility for the brand and the brand is really my thing.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: So, if I was creating a new accessories line, my scene is opening up with that accessory line.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: We're doing an accessory party.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: Ebony can tell you with the rest of them.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: We over the rest of them, I'm like, the students, the students, I want to shoot the important scenes, the scenes that I really, really want.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: The backdrop has to be my restaurant.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: Um, even with the skin salon, the skin salon being at Bloomingdale's, I've shot over there.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like, let's, I want to do the same with me.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: Y'all gonna come shoot me at Bloomingdale's.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: And then I'm always strategic about my partnerships.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: I had, um, Porsche do a launch of her.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: her sheet line while I was doing my yellow skincare thing so that we got even more camping.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: I heard cameras got my cameras and that was the bigger look for you.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's always something because I know that my time is so limited.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: So I can't always just do the rest of it.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: Just do the TV show.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: They have to sometimes blend so that I can make everything happen.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: Then I'm like, come on husband, come on kids, y'all going to be on the show too because we got some time together, right?
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to have a date night on this show.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_02]: Okay?
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: This is when we're doing.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of how I've been able to manage the things.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: So you probably will never see me become a nurse or because it's going to be hard for me to intertwine that into everything else I have going on.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: I make sure that the businesses that I'm in, I can, they can overlap and feed off of each other.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: So Ed, here's my question.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: Let's say, you weren't doing real estate, you weren't doing all the stuff.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: You spent 100% of your time on building a restaurant concept.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: Don't you believe that it could grow to be more in stake house or as big as I'll have gone or something like that.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely, I would probably have about 20 locations.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: So why don't we do that?
- 6:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm living in therapy session for me.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: Why don't we lock into a thing and put all of our time and energy on a thing instead of being so ambitious?
- 6:16[SPEAKER_02]: So for me, I think that all of the things that I do is all of the things that I love, right?
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: I grew up in the hood, I grew up in start, like apartments that wasn't livable, right?
- 6:26[SPEAKER_02]: So for me, it was how do I help my community look different, right?
- 6:31[SPEAKER_02]: So that was equally as important as building all of these restaurants.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_02]: So for me, the two main things that I do is real estate and it also is the restaurant.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_02]: So
- 6:40[SPEAKER_02]: It just makes more sense for me to not just solely focus on restaurants because then I'm selfish.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_02]: I'm looking at the betterment of myself, right?
- 6:48[SPEAKER_02]: My managers now, when they first came in, they were living in apartments.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_02]: All of my managers own their own home, except in my enemy location, right?
- 6:56[SPEAKER_02]: So I teach them how to fix their credit, how to save money, like any one of my managers, you can pick up the phone and call them.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_02]: They'll tell you the exact same thing.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, now I have my own house.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: Now I have this amount in my savings account.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_02]: Like so for me, opening up a restaurant isn't just growing the restaurant as quickly as I can, right?
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: Because if I'm doing all right, I want my team to do all right.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: I want them to know that I'm just as equally as invested in them as they are into this brand.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: So for me, it was providing a different look of a community for me because of where I grew up, right?
- 7:26[SPEAKER_02]: And it was also following a little bit of my mother's path of having a restaurant, of serving people.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_02]: both were equally as important, so I took the sacrifice of not growing the restaurant as fast as I could to be able to help build in my community, because all of my properties are in my community.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_02]: I love that.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: I see you are successful in doing some amazing things.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: I want to go back to can I ask your question on this subject?
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: I know you just struggling with this.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: Are you spiritual at all?
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: So in the Bible, right, does God say, you will be able to do some things?
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: right or this is the Bible say you'll be able to all things through him who give you strength, right?
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of how I look at things.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: God has, it's not that we need this empowerment book or we need this, so it is in you, because God says you will be able to all things through him who gives you strength.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: And if you truly believe that I can do all things through him who gives me strength because the Bible says it, why do I need to limit myself, right?
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like I do not think I can sing at all.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: But one day, one day, and you know this is to be true.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: Someone said, we want you to be a producer on this movie.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, great, wonderful, wonderful.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: And they're like, but this producing, we need you in a different space.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, what's that?
- 8:46[SPEAKER_01]: What should we do?
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: We want you to sing.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: We want you to do a song.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: We want you to sing on the soundtrack.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: And then we want to do this big marketing thing.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: We have this performance.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: We want to play the movie with a Yandy performance.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: No one has ever seen you in this light.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_02]: And she'd be an amazing, amazing.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, not tell you, I was like, what do you mean, saying exactly like, sing out my mouth?
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: I said in a studio.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: So leading up to that, I mean, I hired all type of people to help me figure this thing out.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: I said listen, don't teach me.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: She had me practicing TLC song, practicing Monica song.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: I said give me the one song.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to know how to risk.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want every single day.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: We had rehearsals every day.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: I said, every day for two hours, I only want to do this song.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's all I want to do.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: Teach me how to rift this song.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: Teach me how to go high on this song.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: Teach me how to go alone on this song.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what I did.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: Leading, she's like, okay, let's do this week.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then we're going, wait, I don't want to wait.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: If you're not available, give me some ideas as available on your team.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to wait.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: And then we got to the studio, I said, she's that everybody's going to put you in the studio.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: I said, I need all the vocal coaches there.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's just a studio session.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: They only allowed the producer and they were, right, I need the coaches.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: I need the sound, right?
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: Because I'm like, and this is a moment again, where I'm like, I'll do the baby thing, the wife thing, but this is, I got to be strong in this.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: I got in the Monday, I have to perform this.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: I was nervous as all get out, but it was about, I kept saying to myself, I can do all things through him who gave me strength.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: I can do all day and I was like, I want to make God proud.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: I want to make my children proud.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: I want to make the people in this audience proud.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: And that's all I kept saying to myself when I was in the studio.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: When I finished the song, when they posted the song on this shade, where I was like, oh, the people are hard.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, please, but when they were like, you can actually sing, you know what I was like, very one-combing, did a lot of the comment, I'm like, oh my god, go hit girl.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: So then when I got up on that stage, all I kept saying to my head, I can do all things through him, we'll get me strength.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not a singer.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm going to do this because I can do this and that kind of how I operate in the spaces I don't know nothing about the restaurant business my first restaurant that I opened up That's how her and I got close because I was like, how do I do this?
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: Ebony you said what she's like you whatever you get in your food from Costco's You get in your food from Whole Foods She's like, I'm like well my supposed to give my food from somewhere else.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: She was like Did you know says go do you know and I was like no never heard of it?
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: I was literally going to the grocery store to get the food for the restaurant I had no idea I had money to waste and I'm like I want to the restaurant
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: She was like, are you crazy?
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: She's not lying.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: She was like, this is just, she gave me all these different distributors before and I'm like, oh, that's how you're doing.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: And then she was like, so how do you keep inventory?
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, I'm like, show your food.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, oh, you keep inventory.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, oh, okay, so in my head and I'm a, I am a student, I am a student in every aspect of what I want to do and what I want to be.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: I said, when I open up the next restaurant or anything else, I got, I'm on her heels and I'm literally an inch, I'm like, every Ebony, teach me how to do the POS system.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: Teach me about how you do this and I'm fine with that.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: I have no pride when it comes to our business because I know that this is something that she built from the ground up.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: I got into it because I was like, you know what?
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: I got this show out here in Atlanta, and I was like, I want to have a restaurant while I could shoot in my restaurant.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: And when people come to town, they can say, I'm going to Yandee's restaurant.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: That wasn't even about a money grab for me.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: It was about creating a space where people can come, you know, fellowship with me and my family, and have a good time.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: But then I was like, I should figure out the business behind this too.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: And then that's how we connect it.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so give me your perspective in a situation where she's like, all stinking fear.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_02]: So that's exactly what happened.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_02]: I came to the restaurant.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: We kind of went over all of the things, um, because what I do know about Yandy, she loves people, right?
- 12:25[SPEAKER_02]: So at any given time, no matter if it's that dancing crepes, if it's that yell, she's out there with those customers.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_02]: She's talking to the customer.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_02]: She's making sure that everything gets perfect, right?
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: Does she know she was drowning or you noticed it?
- 12:39[SPEAKER_02]: I think we both noticed it in the first and the first five minutes I think we both noticed it right because it's one thing to have a great chef It's one thing to produce good food right but to really own a business and know your business You shouldn't have to be the chef the waitress Somebody call out.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you shouldn't know how to be able to step in and do all of the things But she was so involved in it.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_02]: It was like she couldn't really do too much right because she has to be
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like making drinks at the bottom of the bartender's house.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: Then in the kitchen, I'm making sure that's fine.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, what girl, what are you doing?
- 13:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but to love people, the way that she love people, right?
- 13:18[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of times people will forgive things.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_02]: when they see that you're really into providing a great customer experience, right?
- 13:25[SPEAKER_02]: I might say, I'm going to give it another chance.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to come back because the customer service was great.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_02]: But I think that a lot of times people are even harder on you because it's Yandee, right?
- 13:35[SPEAKER_02]: So if they just know, okay, everything is the owner, I might get a lot more grace.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_02]: The moment that Yandee's at the host stand, I'll tell you a story.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_02]: She's at the host stand.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_02]: a customer could not have a reservation they're walking and say oh I waited 15 minutes well it's a 45 minute wait time oh well where's Yandy?
- 13:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yandy?
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yandy?
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yandy?
- 13:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 13:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 14:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 14:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 14:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yandy?
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yandy?
- 14:02[SPEAKER_02]: But because it's Jenny, it's all let me sit you right now.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's a different expectation.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_02]: And for some reason that somehow she always come through for the customers every time.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_02]: Me, I'm a little bit more.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, guys, it's really a 45 minute wait, right?
- 14:16[SPEAKER_02]: And that might be because I just went and checked the kitchen and I think that it was 28 tickets on the board.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_02]: So to make sure that our guests is getting full within 30 minutes, I'm going to hold the door a little bit longer, right?
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: In this scenario, what is the first major thing that you fix?
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you had to put your hands on it and fix it.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_02]: The first major thing, I would say the first major thing will always be the customer experience, right?
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: Bull is broken.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_02]: Well, when you're dealing with a lot of different people, right?
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of different personalities for your team, right?
- 14:47[SPEAKER_02]: One server might not do all five steps of service, right?
- 14:50[SPEAKER_02]: One server might skip three of those steps, right?
- 14:52[SPEAKER_02]: And so because you're not communicating with the guests correctly, they're going to go your one-star reviews, right?
- 14:58[SPEAKER_02]: They can say, well, I had a great, the food was amazing, but my customer service wasn't as great, right?
- 15:02[SPEAKER_02]: Automatically, the food on matter number, it goes directly into a one-star.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_02]: So for us it was like wait let's fix this immediately right because when you first open no one cares They don't care if you've been open day one or day 75 They don't care they care about that experience so for us it was let's go back and retrain all of our teams So we had to do a lot of fire and right that was part of the fix fire because they weren't following the system or they didn't want to follow the system
- 15:28[SPEAKER_02]: It was more a follow-in because they didn't want to follow the system, right?
- 15:31[SPEAKER_02]: People look at customer service in a different light.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_02]: For us, we look at customer service as we provide this experience, they'll come back.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: We wanted to be cheers, reimagined, right?
- 15:40[SPEAKER_02]: We grew up watching cheers and everybody knew your business, right?
- 15:43[SPEAKER_02]: That's kind of the same thing in restaurants.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_02]: Your customers come, we know when your child is graduating from college.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_02]: We celebrate those moments with you.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_02]: But if I have the team that don't care and they're only there for money, right?
- 15:55[SPEAKER_02]: That's what you're going to get in return.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to get people that don't care that that doesn't check back on their guests to make sure that they're OK. Because you can fix things in real time in restaurants.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_02]: But if you have an attitude that you don't care, and that's what we got in the beginning.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_02]: So immediately, we literally was in training, training, trying to fix those problems.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_02]: And so I'm proud to say that they were good now, though.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: So these people that you had that had the go.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just taking a guess at it that it was probably your fault, maybe you hire someone and you let them do what they want and I've been here a million times.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_00]: You hire somebody and you just like, we cool, so you just do it and if you don't follow five steps, it's cool.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: Was it like that?
- 16:38[SPEAKER_01]: So I would say, we came into this and I am more still like, let's give her a chance.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: Every second I don't like her, she has to go.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: Right, and I like let's give her a chance.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just give her a chance.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just, you know, let's train her again.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: Let's really make sure she understands our principles and who we are and why we're doing this.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: Then you're still from a customer and it's like, oh, I can't help you when you do that.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, I told you, Andy, we need to fire her two, three weeks ago.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: I told you this.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: She wants to give everybody three chances.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes it works and sounds it doesn't.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: But it works because it's like...
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: Good cup backup, and then we have the FBI head of fairs right that witch's rob.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: He don't play the radio with us now at all.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: I made a mistake in use our business debit card because you don't want you out of Costco you can only use you visa, visa, visa, visa, visa, our master card.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: I had my MX and the only other card I had, I was like, oh, this blue card didn't even pay attention that I was our new book card.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: And now so let me just get this real quick.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: All that real quick turned into a meeting.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, Jenny, I noticed that on the card you run up some Costco school and I was like, oh, what happened that's on the new book card And I was like, oh, I was just like, which is right.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's no, no, no, no, I'm going to need you to put that money back over here
- 18:05[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, no problem, but but but but but not always that I'm like every organization needs a rob Because you need someone that is meticulous and that is very on top because when the IRS comes and they're like Who was this personal charge over here?
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's important to be able to say no that was this So I think that it's important to have an Ebony to balance a me out
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and when the customers are upset a lot of times I'll be in my bonnet at home If I'm not at the restaurant Ebony's calling me a face already know Which at certain times, but she's at the right as she's calling me a face as she's calling me for a customer something So she's like, hey, you know this customer is here.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: They thought you would be here.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: That's why they came and she's like They bought they whole family talked to them, and I'm like, oh, let me I'm gonna rip this bonnet off real quick.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, hey, y'all with the you know, sorry.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not there
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: So we need both, right?
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: Someone else might have been like, I'm like, you know, no phone, I'm in my bay with my kids.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_01]: But me, I'm going to get up every time because I understand the experience is everything.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, sure.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_01]: Every chance, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: So how did this business partnership come about?
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: Because I want to know your backstory on your experience in this, but then I want to know how the business partnership came about.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: So when I open new vote, um, like six months out there, COVID happens, right?
- 19:18[SPEAKER_02]: We got to shut the business down.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_02]: All the money that's invested.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_02]: You want to cry.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_02]: Like what happens now?
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: You're making $12 a day, right?
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: You're talking about your business.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's all.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_02]: Uh-huh.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_02]: And so from that, when we... And you have one restaurant to start.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_02]: One restaurant to start.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: The Germaine thing, okay.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_02]: Uh-huh.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_02]: College Park.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_02]: That was the one restaurant.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_02]: And then after that, I got a food truck.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_02]: Then there goes Nouveau Jonesboro.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: It's all happening, right?
- 19:42[SPEAKER_02]: And then I did this crazy investment in the restaurant in College Park.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: And so before I knew it was that crazy, I called you and you were like, hey, you got to get in this building, it's beautiful with three levels.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: Like we got to do this, that's it.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, it comes along.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_02]: We do it, right?
- 19:59[SPEAKER_00]: Hold on a second.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_00]: You have the restaurant on your own.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: Nuva, Nuva, and Kalitspa, and then you find another restaurant and you're essentially asking her to be an investor?
- 20:09[SPEAKER_02]: So, third restaurant, so I had already had that at the food truck and I had Jonesboro, so then an investment at the food truck in Jonesboro, and then I had Kalitspa.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: They had Kalitspa, what was the first restaurant?
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: Kalitspa, Nuva and Kalitspa.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_00]: So we had Kalitspa in Jonesboro, and then a food truck, and so you had this going on right now before she comes.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: how profitable were these three entities?
- 20:35[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, extremely.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_02]: Really.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_02]: So, Nuvo and Jones, but I made all my money back in like six months.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_02]: That was a $600,000 investment.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_02]: Really?
- 20:42[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_02]: So, so I know systems, right?
- 20:45[SPEAKER_02]: I know systems and other people when I trust God in all things.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_02]: When I put all three of those things together and I work.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_02]: So, it's not like, oh, you are on and you do absolutely no, no.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_02]: I know how to cook every.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_02]: First of all, I trained my chefs on my menu, a lot of the ingredients, a lot of the recipes are mine and then the chefs, we let them be creative and they come up with their own dishes, of course.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_02]: But any given time a chef can make it, I can go back then cook my entire menu.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_02]: I cooked the first year, every single day of the restaurant I cooked in my kitchen.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_02]: I don't drink.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_02]: I learned how to bartend.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_02]: So every drink that's on that menu, I can make.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_00]: Mmm, okay.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: So you got these three restaurants rocking at the time.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: You are friends before this, right?
- 21:29[SPEAKER_02]: So what friends in the middle?
- 21:30[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_02]: So you pick up friends in the middle of it, right?
- 21:34[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and so I go to Dancing Crapes.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_02]: we talk, we sit down, and so this opportunity comes up, right?
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: And this is in Atlanta.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a great, that's a great amount of money, that's yeah, these rest are right.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_02]: And so I told Yandy about this opportunity, so we both agree on it, we do on it, we had this amazing partner named Ray, she was very great, right?
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: But what we had some promoters that were a part of it, right, the head, an investment in it.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: hold on real quick because I don't want to speed pass because I got so many questions.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: As so you guys are cool while you have three restaurants from your perspective what you obviously trust are as a restaurant owner because it's a way to act.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: how did the conversation of you being an investor come about.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: So it wasn't even that I was an investor.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: We came as a partnership together and for me, Ebony, when she came and sat me down in my restaurant and said, you need to do this, you need to do this different.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: a lot of times people will look at status or who they think you are and they don't feel like you need that or they don't even want to give you that.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: For me, it was free game and it was something that I respected so much.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: So in the back of my head, I'm like, if I ever get the opportunity to work with her, I'm taking it.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: because a lot of times, unfortunately, we do not do this, we don't share openly information, especially competing, I have a restaurant in Atlanta, she had a restaurant in Atlanta.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we could have looked at each other as competition instead of collaboration.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: And she was doing well.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_01]: She didn't have to, and in my businesses, I'm doing well at the time.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: So she didn't have to do that.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I immediately knew like this was someone that I would love to go into business with.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: So when she said, look, I got this situation.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you wanna come part in one way?
- 23:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, yup.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: And on that occasion, it was like, what, what, what I got, yes, we're going to be doing community events.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_02]: So we were already doing Christmas giveaway.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_02]: We're giving away over $300,000 of Christmas gifts, play stations.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_02]: We started at Cascade, move from Cascade to the arena, the GRCC arena.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_02]: So we were already doing major Christmas events together, right?
- 23:46[SPEAKER_02]: So we got already had the community part down.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_02]: We already had the friendship part down.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_02]: We had the solicitor part down.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_02]: And so for us to do business together.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_02]: And the restaurant space, I felt like it was a gift from God, right?
- 23:58[SPEAKER_02]: You don't really get that opportunity to do a partnership with somebody that, yeah, that should actually like it.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_00]: And only reason I use the word investment because typically, if you are a restaurant owner and you're opening a restaurant,
- 24:11[SPEAKER_00]: you don't need another person to help you run a restaurant.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: You typically would have an investor to okay, this is the vision for the dream.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: So, or this is not what that's not necessarily true, right?
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: Because what she does, I don't necessarily do, I'm learning to be able to do it, but what I do, she doesn't necessarily do.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_00]: Explain that dynamic.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: That's what we do.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we have a very different dynamic in the restaurant.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: very different.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I think equally we shared some things that are very, very important.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: People are coming to Nouveau because they love the food, they love the way the food looks, we're giving you social moments without the way the food comes out that Ebony, you know, pretty much spearheaded.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: But then the experience side of the restaurant, I'm going to give you all that experience.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: You won't walk in, we're going hug, dance, I'm going walk you to your table.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm talking to your kids, I'm kids and babies, you know, shaking hands and then I'm staying in touch with you probably after you leave as well.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: So many people got my phone up and I called you from that restaurant.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: I walk in and I make sure every single server has a hug.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_01]: You never know what I remember being a server and my restaurant work when I was in college and I was going through so much and I just wanted my managers to like me.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: I wanted my managers to just be like mom and dad and I didn't have my mom and dad when I was at Howard they were back in New York.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I felt like I spent four hours working 40 hours a week and I just needed someone older to just like, you know, put their arms around me.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't have that.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: So I felt like that's what I want to be for these young girls and these young guys that I did.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I walk and I hug every single server there, every summer.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: Ebony's getting to work.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: Ebony's like, like, getting cleaning floors.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: If this does make sure this is happening.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: Ebony is getting to, she's still mom of air in there as well, but different.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: Ebony is going to make sure the business is written and you understand how this business needs to be run.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to make sure you're okay.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_01]: So what's going on?
- 25:53[SPEAKER_01]: You're okay.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_01]: You're not smiling.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_01]: What's going.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go upstairs and let's talk.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_01]: because you gotta be able to smile.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: You gotta be able to, what's going, and then I'm gonna have an hour long.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: Every summer, I'm always like, Ebony, I need to be able to have these conversations to get back on the floor.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: I get a day.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a two hour session.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying, they're trying, we're hugging, and then we get back on the floor, and then it's like a better day.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but I need to learn how to do that, right?
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: And then probably Ebony can even because I'm like, I'm like, come on Ebony, we got you on dance.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: The Ebony's like, I'm not dancing.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm not dancing.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm not dancing.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm not dancing.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm not dancing.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm not dancing.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm not dancing.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm not dancing.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm not dancing.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm not dancing.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm not dancing.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not dancing.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not dancing.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not dancing.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not dancing.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not dancing.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not dancing.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not dancing.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not dancing.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not dancing.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not dancing.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not dancing.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not dancing.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not dancing.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not dancing.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not dancing.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not dancing
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so I think people love that.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: When we see things posted on TikTok, our fresh, a lot of our success is because we went viral on TikTok.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_01]: But you see people dancing there in the aisles having a great time.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and I think that collectively, we have created this experience that people love.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: They would not want to dance if the food was horrible.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: For sure.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: they were not want to come in after doors is closed and not open at the certain time and it's not ran correctly, it's not clean.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: So we needed each other to really for sure be this face, right?
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: Other spaces are over successful and I'm sure whomever they are she needed that.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_01]: This space is successful and it's very different from everything else.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's very sexy.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's super sexy.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's, it's, it's cool.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's like fly, it's the fly.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_01]: You want to be, if you are in, when with any, any area in Miami, you want to come to Nouveau, because it's fun.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: You kind of have a blinds for sure.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: That was interesting.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_00]: Did you realize that you needed that part?
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like, okay, we're, we're running systematically, but I need the vibes.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 27:30[SPEAKER_02]: So for sure.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_02]: So we already had like a little vibe at like college park in Jones, but we have this thing called my most of jams.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_02]: They create a great vibe like being the actually love one of those.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_02]: They create a great vibe.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_02]: But what was missing was.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes we don't get that opportunity and I'm not the one that's going to go and talk to every single guest right as much as I love all of our guests.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_02]: Unfortunately, I might be back in the kitchen.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_02]: I might be.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_02]: And so Yandy brings another level of love and concern.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think a lot of times people really realize what the service, you know, go through.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_02]: I literally had the opportunity on Sunday to have a conversation with one of my servers.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_02]: And I didn't know that she was being pumped out, right?
- 28:09[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't know that Nuvo saved her life, right?
- 28:11[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't know that Nuvo gave her a different level of security and love and it feels like family.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_02]: Some of the things you just never really know and I wouldn't have never guessed, never wouldn't have guessed.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't know that she experienced a lot of the girls are come from dance and in a dance and world.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_02]: And so like some of the trauma that they're there, you don't have to even know.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't know that some of the girls they mom passed, they didn't have no way to go, they didn't have an outlet.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_02]: Some of them tell me, oh, we couldn't even feed our family before new vote.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_02]: And now it feels like family.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_02]: So when you really think about the core of what it is that we do is beyond the restaurant.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's a way that I don't think that God gave us that to stop and sit and say, hey, we're going to go home.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to take money.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_02]: Because a lot of the times when newville opened, Yandy, we didn't see a dollar, right?
- 28:58[SPEAKER_02]: We did not see one dollar, not one.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_02]: But we were able to make sure that these servers were walking home with money to feed their families, our kitchen, our chefs.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_02]: whatever minimum wage is, I don't even know what it is at this point, because when we open those doors, it was, we're not paying enough.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_02]: And so in return though, they give us the best they have.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_02]: And that's more than to me, any dollar amount.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_00]: This is incredible.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm starting to see this strategic partnership, because some people are going to business.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, oh, you're my home.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go to business together.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_00]: But like, there are certain strengths that you all have.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_00]: So in the beginning,
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: you have an opportunity for this restaurant in Miami.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_00]: You found it, or kind of just came to you.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_02]: So we looked together, but we did my Emmys together.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_02]: I might have been getting this went through with the team.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: To find a location, this kind of found our lab, but it's like by chance almost, oh, my God.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_02]: So I feel God don't make mistakes.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_02]: I feel timing is everything.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_02]: I went and looked at a location in Miami four years ago and everything that I could think of was wrong, right?
- 30:05[SPEAKER_02]: And only thing that worked right was, I had to find answers, right?
- 30:08[SPEAKER_02]: Everything else was wrong.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_02]: And so I was like, you know what, God,
- 30:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a move when you say move.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_02]: I left the whole thought of Miami along.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_02]: The whole thought of Miami.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, nah, so then one of my great friends came and said, hey, I've been here since an opportunity.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_02]: I immediately call you Andy.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_02]: We jumped on the flight the very next day.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_02]: And so from that, we went from having one location locked and then it was like,
- 30:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's almost wrong with that.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_02]: Then another location, and then they played us out of that location.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_02]: And I could remember getting on my knees and God, I'm giving it to you.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_02]: I surrender, everything to you.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_02]: And literally, not that long behind that, they called and said, hey, come look at this location.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_02]: I think, Andy, you were in Atlanta, right?
- 30:53[SPEAKER_02]: And I faced time, Andy, and said, yeah, Andy, look.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_02]: She was like, that's it.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_02]: That's the location, and honestly, when God is in it,
- 31:02[SPEAKER_02]: It goes exactly according to plan.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_02]: That wasn't hard for us.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_02]: The other location we were flying back and forth back and forth on this flight It was a night.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: It just wasn't right people that were going to be associated wasn't right that the
- 31:16[SPEAKER_01]: It was like a garage, barren kind of door thing, with a doors up all day, would have flies.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_01]: But we thought we had like, we're in Miami, and when with, it's an area that is like the art district and it's always popping.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_01]: So we were just so excited to have possibly have a location in that district and it just wasn't for us.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_01]: So all kind of turmoil and things like it happened.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_01]: They're not returning off phone calls.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_01]: This person was his high percentage.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, things you just not working out for us.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: And we were super excited about this location.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, let's call them back again.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do this again.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: Let's try again.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: Then it just all the sudden.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: And we're like, what's going on?
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: They just stop answering our phone calls.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_01]: Also, yeah, just stop answering our phone calls.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_02]: Keep in mind, we paid the deposit.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_02]: Every pay, everything that we needed to pay.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_02]: And all of the phone calls stopped.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that's God showing us, right?
- 32:06[SPEAKER_02]: Because when we want something, we're going to make it work.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to make this location work.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_02]: That night, I said, fine, cool.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to get on the flight and go see everything that we could have then we're trying to force something that wasn't just in our plans.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_02]: And so God have to show you, like, okay, you want to keep trying.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_02]: Let me just shut all communication on.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what happened.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_02]: Like we didn't know what they live because it wasn't anything.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_01]: We had everything ready to go, everything, and then they just stop picking up and we found out they sold it to somebody else, just randomly, a random person, right from no rest of my experience, no rest of my experience, no rest of my experience, no rest of my experience, no rest of my experience, no rest of my experience, no rest of my experience, no rest of my experience, no rest of my experience, no rest of my experience.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_00]: As you're looking for a restaurant, is there a certain number that you're, is there a certain size that you're looking for is there a certain number we want to put in first or we're just trying to find a right location behind everything later.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's so many aspects that go to a location.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_01]: You definitely want to think about the location.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_01]: Is this something that people are going to have foot traffic?
- 33:06[SPEAKER_01]: Are people walking around?
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: Is it a location where people have to drive through?
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: Is there a parking?
- 33:10[SPEAKER_01]: Can you do that?
- 33:11[SPEAKER_01]: Can you have outdoor seating?
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: Can you have indoor seating?
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: According to the price that we want to set on the menu, we'll be able to make money with also figuring out how we're going to pay this rent.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_01]: And money.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_01]: So all of those things the area is so important in South Beach, you can charge different prices than what you charge in Atlanta.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_01]: That mattered to us according to what size we wanted to be the response to behind me people can we sit here.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_00]: So the judge intentionally said, let's go Miami or that was where the opportunity is because the same easier, we're just going to do it, because y'all know it, Nana, y'all live in Atlanta, right?
- 33:43[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely, but I think when you're trying to grow a national brand, right, it just don't stop in Atlanta, right?
- 33:50[SPEAKER_02]: And so, ultimately, when we're thinking of locations, right, again, I came from
- 33:55[SPEAKER_02]: the retail space on you thinking of locations.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_02]: There's a couple of things to go with that of course the size, right?
- 34:01[SPEAKER_02]: How many people can we sit in here, right?
- 34:04[SPEAKER_02]: What would the drink prices look like?
- 34:05[SPEAKER_02]: What's the plate cost?
- 34:07[SPEAKER_02]: So once we put all of that together, Miami was the scariest deal, because Miami location is $2.3 million.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_02]: That's what that build out is for Miami.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_00]: So the build out?
- 34:16[SPEAKER_02]: Uh-huh.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_00]: How does this the purchase the building or just build out?
- 34:19[SPEAKER_02]: that is not the person to build that inside the restaurant inside of the restaurant, right?
- 34:25[SPEAKER_02]: Well, again, for us, it was, we get to create an experience when you walk in Miami, you don't know if it's black on, if it's Indian on, if it's white on, you can't tell, right?
- 34:37[SPEAKER_02]: Miami comes with a lot of bells and whistles for sure, right?
- 34:40[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that's what we were going for.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_02]: We wanted to be something that the stars that looks a little different, right?
- 34:48[SPEAKER_02]: And something that our culture can be proud of, right?
- 34:51[SPEAKER_02]: That we can say we did this, right?
- 34:53[SPEAKER_02]: We did it.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_02]: for us, you got to think Miami, everything is higher in Miami, right?
- 35:00[SPEAKER_02]: It probably would have cost us less than a million to do that in Atlanta, but the contract is higher.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_02]: The parliament is higher.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_02]: Everything in Miami, and unfortunately,
- 35:12[SPEAKER_02]: we're not the race that most people will.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_02]: Miami is not a lot of black-owned anything.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_01]: Especially in winwood.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_02]: Especially in winwood.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_02]: It's becoming that.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_01]: And we hear so much like there's nothing like this in winwood.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_01]: Really.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_01]: There's nothing like this in winwood.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_01]: And they are so when they walk in the door, people feel like.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'm where I look at it.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: Please do look at it.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_00]: What's Instagram?
- 35:35[SPEAKER_01]: Nouveau Miami.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: Make sure you all watch.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: Look, I want you all to check this out with me.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_00]: I want you to see the real time.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'll go look up Nouveau Miami on TikTok on Instagram, everywhere, look it up.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_01]: But people say like, there's nothing like this here.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think they're just talking about it being black owned.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_01]: Every single thing about from the minute you walk into the door, there's an experience.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_01]: Your eyes, there are like, we have these metal, like golden,
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: What do you call those things like how you have this on your walls we have it in gold in metal coming down It's it's it's a beautiful like your eyes like seeing a tapestry of beautiful things and minute you walk in We have 33 shandard leaders.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_01]: This one This one I said Ebony I think six is good
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think she's gonna go crazy.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_01]: She's gonna go crazy.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: We need this.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: This is Miami.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_01]: We got started up.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't start literally.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it is.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_01]: This one.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_01]: We went back and forth on the Shandeliers, okay?
- 36:32[SPEAKER_01]: She felt it.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_01]: And then we have wrap around televisions.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: Our whole bar is a wrap with TV that comes across.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_01]: Anywhere you sit in the restaurant, you're seeing a big LED screen that wraps around the whole entire restaurant.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_01]: We don't have TV screens.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: We have an LED wrap around bar.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_01]: That is all that that system alone.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_00]: I it looks it's about a million dollars, but it's unbelievable for me, you know you, you, you, me, you, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me,
- 37:05[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for all the having a time.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you have a time.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_02]: You're probably seeing on those videos Jambi dance with that You probably didn't miss out on that the whole stand shaking my head.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, people are really standing up dancing like it's yes.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, wow And it's not a party and really a restaurant
- 37:21[SPEAKER_01]: But even the DJs, we have the best DJs that come in the city.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_01]: We hired the best DJs.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_01]: We have the best promoters that people love.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_01]: So when you come there, it's like, oh, it's familiar face.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_01]: Because it's like, oh, that's the DJ that, you know, it's on the radio station.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_01]: Or that's the DJ that has, you know, live nightclub.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's the promoter that invited me to the new pop and spot down the block that everybody goes to.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: So when you walk in, you feel familiar.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: If you're from there, when you're from the community, it's not like, oh, I'm going to, you know, Oxford's restaurant, you know, everyone is suited up button tie and we don't know the owners.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know us, you see us, we're there, we're working.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_01]: And we are welcome you in, not just with an amazing food, but with an amazing DJ, with an amazing host that's going to greet you, with the bartenders that are amazing and that understand this customer service experience is top tier you have to do it.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: There's no if and what you have to do it.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_01]: I understand you haven't yet.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_00]: This place looks nuts.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my God.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: Which place you're looking at?
- 38:18[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's something you pour in something more sour.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's on the news.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to lose.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you can do lobster, a lot of people who can't fish on here, like, they get the customers get creative with what they want on top of it.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_02]: Literally, they get so creative.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I see the screen wrapped around the top of the door.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's a vibe and I think we did a very good job with creating that vibe along just the LED and the sound system was over 300,000.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_02]: Easy, right?
- 39:11[SPEAKER_02]: But if you come in and you want to watch the game, you can now look at the DJ booth and you can see it, but entire restaurant, you can see it from any angle of the restaurant, you can see the game, you can see the menu,
- 39:24[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I need to, okay, so two point three on the build-out, right?
- 39:30[SPEAKER_00]: How much is the lease?
- 39:33[SPEAKER_02]: A month.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_02]: The lease is 40,000.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_02]: A month.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_00]: But lease is 40.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_02]: Uh-huh.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm only asking these questions for the aspiring restaurant owner.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_00]: I have actually a part owner slash investor in the restaurant.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_00]: So these numbers are like blowing me away.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's incredible.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_00]: What's payroll?
- 39:56[SPEAKER_02]: Payroll is about 40,000 every two weeks.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_00]: We're at overhead 120 a month in payroll and lease.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_01]: But on one night alone, we're always like, like, what would we do right?
- 40:08[SPEAKER_01]: Well, where we at right now, one night we could do $40,000.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, easy, one night, one night.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_02]: So if you do a Saturday, we can do that in a Saturday.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_02]: Really?
- 40:21[SPEAKER_00]: But also we have to consider the payback on the 2.3.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 40:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so the payback on the 2.3.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_02]: We include some of that in that 40,000.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I see.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I see.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_02]: Our regular thing is 40,000.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_02]: We're automatically, if it's 30,000.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_02]: at bare minimum we're gonna send 50,000 so we're knocking down that long.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_02]: So the initial rent is in 40,000 but we make sure that we never go under 40,000.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_02]: Most of the time we're paying 50,000 out so that we're knocking down that monthly.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_01]: And then at the so say January, we'll probably give to that long 200,000 to that long immediately.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_02]: January 1st we'll probably give that away to that long so that we're knocking that down.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_00]: Do y'all have slow seasons?
- 41:05[SPEAKER_02]: So we're in Stosies, and then we don't feel it.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_02]: We don't feel it.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_02]: We're in Stosies, and right now am I in Stosies?
- 41:09[SPEAKER_02]: You don't feel it.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_01]: We just opened in January.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_01]: So we're like, we heard this was the Stosies, and we heard it.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_00]: But God.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: But God.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_02]: But God.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_02]: We got a great team.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_02]: Our team of promoters, when I told you date, you would think it's their restaurant.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_02]: That's how much they love their restaurant.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even feel comfortable calling them promoters because they are like family there team.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_01]: They're like VP of experiential dining at Nouveau.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even call you promoters because they are moving tables, you know, making sure that if we have a better party of 50 that was coming in, me and Lump, removing tables, moving lighting, doing all kinds of things to make sure that this family is set up, they're not just owners.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_01]: They're not just owners.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_02]: They're not just owners.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_02]: And so, but everybody knows like Miami is a who's who's city.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_02]: If you're not part of the who's who's in a wrong area, so for us, like this is ring so much.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_02]: They care.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_02]: They literally bust tables with us.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_02]: I can be in the back in a hosting.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_00]: So we got operations.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_00]: We have obviously experience.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: We have promoters that bring people in, right?
- 42:19[SPEAKER_00]: How do the promoters get compensated?
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: We pay them.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: based on the work or based on what they're bringing in.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_02]: Is it like a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary or is it a salary
- 42:55[SPEAKER_00]: each particular night or do you have a group of promoters that say, okay, at the end of the month, this is what we all brought in.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, explain this process.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_00]: I understand.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_02]: So say there's, I'll do a Wednesday.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_00]: You have different promoters for different nights.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_02]: So there's promoters from, now Wednesday, Wednesday just came about.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_02]: So from now Wednesday to Sunday, right?
- 43:18[SPEAKER_02]: So just say a Wednesday night, that can be a line down Wednesday night.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_02]: So the restaurant has automatically, wants the restaurant say the $5,000 on the Wednesday.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_02]: After that happens, there's a 15% on liquor sales, right?
- 43:32[SPEAKER_00]: That they ought to have to have $5,000.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_00]: So if the promoter, let's say the night does $4,800.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody gets paid.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody gets paid.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_00]: But above 5,000 inches per percentage, and that's the percentage is based on 5,000, I'm sorry, 5,000 in liquor or 5,000.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_00]: 5,000 per each period.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_01]: Because that's what we covered the cost of the day.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: Got it.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: So once we hit the five total, they'll get a percentage of the liquor above that or all the sales above that.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_02]: Licker.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_02]: Licker is the most profitable thing in a restaurant.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_00]: Because food isn't as profitable.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_02]: No, I knew it.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_02]: No, I knew it.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_02]: If you got liquor, you got hookin' a restaurant you already want.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_00]: Would you ever open a restaurant without hookin' a liquor?
- 44:17[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we'll have hookin'.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_02]: We'll have hookin' right now.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_00]: But would you ever open a restaurant without liquor?
- 44:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like, just straight food.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna make money off the food.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_02]: So, the vegan concept stir-house that doesn't have liquor at all.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_02]: Initially was intended to have liquor, but it doesn't.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_02]: So I guess it just kind of depends, but it's a takeout spot.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_02]: So that's the difference.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_02]: It has like maybe eight tables in there.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_02]: But no, liquor is what makes money.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely not.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_00]: So you allow a promoter to get a night.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_00]: How do you pick the promoter?
- 44:54[SPEAKER_02]: The hottest promoters in the city.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they were hand-picked.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they were hand-picked.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: And are you picking a day that they're not already promoting something?
- 45:04[SPEAKER_01]: It depends.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_01]: Some of them, you know, they do Sunday nights, late nights, somewhere else.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_01]: It just works for them.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of them, they don't necessarily have to be there.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: They're all there.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_01]: Any promoter that we have work at the restaurant or do their thing, market the restaurant, they come.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_01]: And they're there the length of time.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like that I'm there.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they're all day.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_01]: they enjoy it.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_01]: They enjoy it.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_01]: They enjoy it.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_00]: And they're bringing their audience.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_00]: They're following the people.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_02]: And customers are coming in and saying, oh, I saw you at live.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I saw you at this location.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I saw you there.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_01]: So we really have like the hardest.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_01]: Or sometimes I was invited by such and such, I was invited here by, you know, some of the promoters we have, they have like this astute crowd that comes in.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I was invited by Brian McKinney.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_01]: I was in the, like, you know, they want to set up and they want the things.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_01]: They'll, we have a group chat where each of them will say like, I got this party of 10, come with this party of 15.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they want two bottles and like some of the things that some of the people there invite, it's it is very like formulaic where they're like, okay, these people need two bottles, you know, they want to sit in the back or, you know, they come in to watch the game and we know, like it's guaranteed you're getting the text.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to get between Yandy, Marley, and you're getting, yeah, you're going to get to him as it's guaranteed.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_00]: So do y'all become the promoters on some nights where you don't have to pay a commission or you have a promoter every day.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_02]: So Sunday night, there's no promoters on Sunday night.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_02]: Saturday, there's a space, a window that there's no promoters.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_02]: Two days, there's absolutely no promoters.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_00]: Do those do as well as the days where there's a promoter?
- 46:38[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes, Sunday nights does well.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_02]: Tuesdays.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to take into place.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_01]: And then we might do one of it.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_01]: We might have a karaoke Tuesday.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that's where we are right now.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like really trying to plan out.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_01]: What do we want our events to look like?
- 46:50[SPEAKER_01]: We want to do a comedy show.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want to do a karaoke night?
- 46:53[SPEAKER_01]: and what events do we keep bringing back?
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: We had a streamer's event that we were doing on Tuesday night.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_01]: Say, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_01]: We did, so we're building, yeah, that's new.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_01]: We're building a streamer university on Tuesday night.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's all these young kids, they're not all young, but they're all walking around with their cameras out, they're doing all kinds of different things.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_01]: And it's been, well, it's been going really, really well, right?
- 47:15[SPEAKER_00]: Y'all do that, when do y'all do that?
- 47:16[SPEAKER_01]: On Tuesday night.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_00]: We're time to attend.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think it started eight.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Miami is such a late crowd.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's trying to eat them one thing.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_01]: We're supposed to close at certain times if this poppin and the crowd is there, our chef, our main head chef, he's like, I'm rocking.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not leaving the crowd.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's coming in.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not leaving.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_01]: We stand.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like,
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: Got to get him, I'm tired.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_02]: And he's like, I'm on the morning, we're still there.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, like, and we got to get right back up the next morning.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm coming to a Tuesday.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_00]: Just I want to see, I really want to see what it's like to be.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_00]: And that's so dope because if they're all a lot of streaming, somebody's going to watch and say, you know, I'm going to pull up.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_00]: That is genius.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_00]: Real come on, that I do.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_01]: Marley, I'll see if one of the promoters did that.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm, here's another tougher question, especially for the promoters.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_00]: Once the rest of my get so point where it's already lit, what do we do with promoters?
- 48:14[SPEAKER_00]: Because they don't, I mean, the fair thing says, I put in this work to grow this night, this is my night forever, right?
- 48:21[SPEAKER_00]: But does it work that way?
- 48:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think for us, it does because you help you here to help build it never out of the family now.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, if I'm there on a Sunday or it's because I'm on the weekends usually unless it's like something special happening during the week I'm looking for them like, Where's this one?
- 48:38[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, wait.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_01]: See, it don't even feel right if they're not there.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_01]: No, we buy birthday gifts.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_01]: We have three.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_01]: We have a big old party for the birthday.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: We want to meet the wives.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_01]: We want to meet the kids.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a family.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_02]: So now we would never.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_00]: Are y'all paying each other now?
- 48:54[SPEAKER_00]: Are y'all like do y'all get a salary right now?
- 48:55[SPEAKER_01]: We just started.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_02]: We just started.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_00]: We just started.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, tough for question.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_00]: Give me a time where it was friction in the relationship.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_02]: None at all.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_00]: As business partners?
- 49:09[SPEAKER_00]: None.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_00]: No disagreements, nothing.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_02]: No, we cannot.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_02]: I mean disagreements, but like, but we'll talk it out of Yandy, say this.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_02]: And I'll be like, all right, let's see how it work.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_02]: You know?
- 49:19[SPEAKER_02]: Bob is the one who gets on me and Yandy the most.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_02]: He'd be like, why does y'all do that?
- 49:22[SPEAKER_02]: Did that make sense to sit in people?
- 49:24[SPEAKER_02]: Don't tell me who that's like that.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_02]: Like, he's just like that.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's us.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_02]: But no, like we, even if we don't agree on something at that moment, like we might say, okay, yeah, let's just try our job way.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_02]: And like I told you, I'm a student in this.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_01]: I understand my limitations.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_01]: I know where I'm great, and I know where I need help in my weaknesses.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like she's strength in those.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_01]: So she says, no, this is how we gotta do it like this.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, all right, okay, really have the, like we communicate about everything though, right?
- 49:51[SPEAKER_00]: But that is, that is very rare.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_00]: Me and my been part of Donnie, we've never had like friction like that, right?
- 49:57[SPEAKER_00]: But it's so rare.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_02]: She gives you the real on us.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_02]: So that's what I love her.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_00]: But we, me, the one of us have like,
- 50:05[SPEAKER_02]: There's no like arrogance around it like we're not in competition real let's build a thing together That's it so how did Rob come into play so Rob is my right and so yeah, he had no restaurant experience ever Not he was an engineer.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_02]: He worked with the NBA.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_02]: He had absolutely no right restaurant experience
- 50:27[SPEAKER_02]: And so when he came in, actually, at the time, who I was in a relationship with, he brought him in to help because he saw like, it was a lot for me, right?
- 50:37[SPEAKER_02]: This is my first restaurant, and it was crazy in the beginning, right?
- 50:41[SPEAKER_02]: I had a lot of nights while I went home crying, and I asked him, God, are you sure about this?
- 50:45[SPEAKER_02]: And so he brought him in to help and to support it.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_02]: And literally, he just learned it, and he's so,
- 50:55[SPEAKER_02]: everything has to be perfectly right and he thinks he's right all the time and he can be that as long and he thinks he's right right but I think everybody needs a ride and business like he he's amazing he's definitely amazing he's a pain but he's amazing yeah I mean you gotta gotta ask y'all y'all have too much fun together y'all have to be somebody in there that's a pain he is very stern and and even outside of the stern is where I knew Rob was a fishery
- 51:25[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we're talking to the person that was bringing us in, Rob is not what this Rob is in the kitchen.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_01]: He's checking things, he's opening things, he's opening events, he's checking refrigerators, he's inside the walking refrigerator.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_01]: He came back and he said, he had a list, he said, okay, I took a list.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, literally it was like 35 things on that list.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_01]: We said, this air pump, this air valve is down.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_01]: This refrigerator says it's going to go out of business and another warranty.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's only for now.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, me, well, I'm like, oh, this is popping three, four, oh, we don't turn this thing out, this is it, he was like, no, we're not, no, Andy, be quiet on this one, no, we're not, you're got to fix this, get this together with the leaky, this, the, I want to talk about the roof, this, this, this is, this is, this is, this is mold here, I was like,
- 52:14[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_02]: I said, oh, everybody need to rob on it.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, everybody need to rob.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'll create.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_00]: Last question, well, last series of questions as two successful women that we're not like we're not spoken for in terms of married dating, how was that life?
- 52:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's ghetto.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's so ghetto.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's so ghetto.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_02]: Jesus Christ.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's a harder being a successful woman.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_02]: When it comes to dating?
- 52:46[SPEAKER_02]: I don't even, I won't even put it on success, right?
- 52:48[SPEAKER_02]: I think that we've gotten to a place where man don't know how to date anymore.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_02]: Everything is a lot easier.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_02]: Social media has destroyed a lot of relationships dating, it's almost like you jumping my DM and you expecting me to respond, right?
- 53:04[SPEAKER_02]: Or you see me and say, hey, yo, I want to take you out.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_02]: How are you talking to me?
- 53:08[SPEAKER_02]: How the hell doing?
- 53:09[SPEAKER_02]: How else are we supposed to do it?
- 53:11[SPEAKER_02]: What hey yo, I want to take you out.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I would.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure it all.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's a hey.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I like to take you out.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_00]: That's not
- 53:21[SPEAKER_02]: It's never the power we supposed to do.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I would like to take you out.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_02]: Hi, my name is Sussan Sussan Sussan.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_02]: Let's have a conversation.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to go out with you.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_02]: You could be a kidnapper.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know you.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know just go out with you.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know nothing about you.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_02]: No, I don't even know if you believe in God yet.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_02]: No, I'm not interested.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_02]: Not, not now.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's how you found out.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_02]: Not for me.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I've been as an MDM.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_00]: 100, 100, 100.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_00]: What a bitch.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_00]: We're hardly beautiful.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_00]: And you ignored it.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_00]: And that show, man.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_02]: Please, let me go back to my deal.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_02]: Go back to my deal.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 53:55[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 53:55[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to my deal.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_01]: Literally I'm at the restaurant.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_01]: He has a friend the friend is like, you know, my friends and watch He's really trying to talk to you, but you've been really busy here And I'm like, it's crazy.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, what you can introduce me to your friend?
- 54:18[SPEAKER_01]: Fine.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_01]: So I go with him.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, hey, how you doing?
- 54:21[SPEAKER_01]: And he's like, hey, he's like, I would love to just take you out.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, I've been watching.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_01]: I came here really because I knew you were here.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, he's like, is there a way we could extend?
- 54:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I cannot exchange numbers or two here on my floor.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, I'm working.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, all right, I understand that.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_01]: So you know, I went back doing what I'm doing.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then he, they're wrapping up.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, how's everything?
- 54:38[SPEAKER_01]: Was everything okay?
- 54:39[SPEAKER_01]: And he goes like this to me.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_01]: He takes my hand and it's smooth.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_01]: And he goes like this.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, what is interesting?
- 54:44[SPEAKER_01]: So I take whatever he put in my hand.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know what it was.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_01]: It felt like, I didn't know what it was.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_01]: So I go back to the host.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm talking to Ebony.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing whatever I got to do.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_01]: And then I happened to look down.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_01]: He has a business car folded.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_01]: And inside the business car, it's $100 bills all wrapped up.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_01]: Inside the business card, what is information and he says, you know, I would love to get a phone call or take you out, but in the meantime, get yourself something nice.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_00]: That's fire.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's fire.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_01]: That was fire.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_01]: He was intentional about getting my attention.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_02]: Meanwhile, my DM says, hey, I'm sending you virtual flowers.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_02]: What is that?
- 55:20[SPEAKER_02]: What is that?
- 55:21[SPEAKER_02]: But am I supposed to do with that?
- 55:22[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 55:34[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he was decent looking, not something that I would normally date.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_01]: He wasn't ugly at all, not at all, and he seemed to much younger, he was dressed much younger than I would normally date.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_01]: So I'll say that.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_01]: So yes, he's attractive, just seemed much younger than me with his attire, so I
- 55:54[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was really, really cool.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, wow, not only, you know, did you know I was here so you came, but you also stood out.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_01]: You wasn't like, hey, yo, what's your name?
- 56:02[SPEAKER_01]: Let me get you a little bit.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know?
- 56:04[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you're not interested in you at the restaurant bring some flowers.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_02]: But what I would say this, right?
- 56:09[SPEAKER_01]: I would say this about dating and being a business woman.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of times, and I've been married and now that I'm single in having a restaurant and running businesses, what is so important for me is,
- 56:23[SPEAKER_01]: If I am pouring into this cup, do not leave my cup empty, do not leave my cup empty.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_01]: And if I am giving you energy and I'm giving you a charge, right?
- 56:32[SPEAKER_01]: Every time I put on my microwave, they are charging me.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_01]: Copy and see it's charging me a fee.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_01]: Every time I turn on the stove, gas and electricity, charging me a fee, energy costs.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_01]: And if you are going to drain my energy, please pay for it, pay it for it.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_01]: Put something into my cup, this chart, I don't want to start saying, hey, I'm 32
- 56:52[SPEAKER_01]: So you want to take my energy, you want to bring me more paper this way, you know.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_01]: And it doesn't have to be monetarily that you're paying me.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_01]: Pour back into me.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_01]: If I'm going to be, and if I'm going to be married to you and I come home and I'm tired from this restaurant, I'm tired from running this skincare business, I'm tired, more of the things.
- 57:12[SPEAKER_01]: How do we pour into each other?
- 57:14[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to have to come home and cook, clean, do homework with the kids, make sure they get in bed on time.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_01]: I need you to have poured into them so that now that this is the break because that has poured into me because I get to break, I get to chill out, relax, have some time with you.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_01]: So even in dating, like, figure out how you are going to equally compensate this energy I'm going, cause I'm gonna give you all the energy.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_01]: I love people.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm gonna come into this date night,
- 57:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, now that I'm coming into this day and I love knowing you how are you going to pay for my energy And it's not just this meal because my energy is worth way more than this meal you're paying for you know what I had a good first day I went out on a date.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_02]: I flew to a whole other state for the day.
- 57:53[SPEAKER_02]: Really.
- 57:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't forget there.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_00]: I need some back story
- 57:58[SPEAKER_00]: What did he say to get your attention?
- 58:01[SPEAKER_02]: So, one of my friends introduced us.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_02]: I knew of the person of course.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_02]: And so one of my friends introduced us.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_02]: And she's like, yo, y'all need to know each other.
- 58:08[SPEAKER_02]: So we took each other's number.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_02]: We text for about two good months.
- 58:12[SPEAKER_02]: You know?
- 58:13[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, so long that I feel loved God.
- 58:14[SPEAKER_02]: And he does course.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_02]: So we had two minds, we had a lot of phone conversations and he's like, yo, I want you come and, you know, I was like, hey, I want to pay for my own flight though, right?
- 58:25[SPEAKER_02]: Because what if I don't like you in real life, right?
- 58:27[SPEAKER_02]: I want to just pay for my own flight.
- 58:29[SPEAKER_02]: So I made it a girl's trip, me and my friends went to his city and so he comes to the hotel that we're at and so he pulls up and so.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_02]: I go and I open my own car door and so he said why would you do that?
- 58:42[SPEAKER_02]: Why would you open your door?
- 58:43[SPEAKER_02]: And so I turn around and there's all of these roses and so he planned an amazing dinner.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_02]: We went to my favorite restaurant.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_02]: We started backwards.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_02]: He knows that I love desserts.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_02]: So we went to this place and he had all of my favorite desserts there.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_02]: Then we went to my favorite restaurant and then he said me and all of my friends out, bold and then we had a great time and so that was probably the best day that I've ever had.
- 59:10[SPEAKER_02]: It was about a year and a half, okay?
- 59:15[SPEAKER_00]: Have we had more dates since then?
- 59:17[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you're still cool, you
- 59:45[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_02]: He's very busy.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_02]: I'm very busy, but we make time every day.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_02]: There's a face time in the morning.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_02]: There's a few face times in the evening.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_02]: There's never a night that go past.
- 59:57[SPEAKER_02]: I can open my door and it might be roses.
- 59:59[SPEAKER_02]: That is your face.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, you talking about it.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, it's my house.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, I'm sorry.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no, it's not like he's still allowed to date people, right?
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_02]: And if I want to date, I'm still allowed to do that as well.
- 1:00:11[SPEAKER_00]: Really?
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_00]: So it's been a year and a half of a, it seems like a good experience.
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll talk to each other every day, every night.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_00]: But you still want someone else?
- 1:00:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's still want someone else?
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, not anyone.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_01]: But they are.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:00:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's so weird.
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just talking to you.
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's so childish.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_01]: They need the relationship therapist in you.
- 1:00:54[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_01]: Wait.
- 1:00:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'll tell you, obviously, being in a public situation and not know.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_00]: How's that working for you, San Francisco?
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, every day is different.
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_01]: Every day, we are figuring out how to exist in this space of we were together for 21 years.
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_01]: But we've had off before.
- 1:01:14[SPEAKER_01]: We've been, I used to go on tour all the time.
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_01]: And when I were going on tour sometimes, I would be six months away with Missy or with Dips at home, ever.
- 1:01:21[SPEAKER_01]: So, and I'm always like, OK, let's break up.
- 1:01:23[SPEAKER_01]: Because I'm going away.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't want to hear nothing when I get back.
- 1:01:25[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he'll be like, break up.
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_00]: Because I'm going away.
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_01]: Let's break up.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I was just, I
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_01]: I stopped going on tour when I had my first child, so let's say a mere 14 year maybe 15, so 16 years ago.
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_01]: So I was young.
- 1:01:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in my 20s and I'm, you know, I'm in Paris.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in San Jose.
- 1:01:42[SPEAKER_01]: He's, you know, doing what he's doing.
- 1:01:43[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like, I'm gonna be going for A.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm gonna be going over eight months, right?
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like, I'm not trying to wonder what you got going on.
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_01]: And so much like Ebony, it was kind of like, when I get back, when I get back, it's up in this stuff.
- 1:01:58[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of how our relationship was.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_01]: When I got pregnant with our first child,
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, okay, no more tour.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like, no more going away.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_01]: You got a baby now.
- 1:02:07[SPEAKER_01]: And then it was like, all right, we've stuck.
- 1:02:08[SPEAKER_01]: Then we moved in together and all the things.
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_01]: So, now operating, and we were like the best as a friend before we really got into a relationship.
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_01]: And then we were friends throughout our relationship.
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_01]: So now it's really figuring out how, this has been the longest we've been so it's been a year in a few months.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_01]: So figuring out what life looks like now.
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_00]: Is there a chance to come back together?
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I'm right.
- 1:02:35[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I think that there's always room.
- 1:02:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't hate him.
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't hate me.
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_01]: I love him very much.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_01]: He loves me very much.
- 1:02:42[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that, you know, we've grown up a lot in this relationship.
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_01]: And sometimes when we're not growing up together, it puts some strain on the relationship.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_01]: I was growing up in this space of my business over here.
- 1:02:57[SPEAKER_01]: His business was somewhere totally different.
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_01]: So, a lot of the time, I'm coming home.
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's in real estate.
- 1:03:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's a real estate investor and a developer.
- 1:03:04[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm coming home tired from the restaurant, coming home tired from being on my feet at Bloomingdale's because even with the skin care line at Bloomingdale's, I spend a day at the week.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm there all day.
- 1:03:13[SPEAKER_01]: You think I worked there from when the doors open till the doors closed.
- 1:03:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'm talking to customers.
- 1:03:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know, because that's really when they get a bunch of people coming in when I'm there.
- 1:03:21[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm making a point to do that.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm tired.
- 1:03:23[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and I might not my my love language might not be I want to talk I might just want to chill and watch TV and go to sleep He's he wants to tell me about the real estate this and that so our world's just grew in different areas So now I got this friends this friend group over here with the restaurant this friend group over here with my Bluma Dale staff He got this friend group with the developers and that and we just our world's just grew separate
- 1:03:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then we weren't doing the special date nights and the things because I was busy.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_01]: He was busy and we lost that thing that made us our thing.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's important to find that thing and you have to really be intentional wanting to find that thing.
- 1:04:04[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes you get so caught up in business and this and that thing is less important.
- 1:04:09[SPEAKER_01]: Every day gets less important, less important, less important.
- 1:04:11[SPEAKER_01]: But then we don't have that thing as like that thing was kind of important.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_02]: What an old thing.
- 1:04:16[SPEAKER_02]: I should have paid a little bit more attention to that thing.
- 1:04:19[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that I'm figuring out how to be a part is going to be with Strenzmann's us as parents, with Strenzmann's us as friends.
- 1:04:26[SPEAKER_01]: And if there's ever a day when we do come back together.
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_01]: And we know that we respected each other while we were apart.
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_01]: We know that we held each other in high honor while we were apart.
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_01]: We know that we didn't get on social media being disrespectful or doing crazy things.
- 1:04:39[SPEAKER_01]: How a person treats you with things that are rough, with things that are tough, shows you who they really, really are.
- 1:04:44[SPEAKER_01]: And this is the top thing to tough.
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_01]: Being separate.
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what he's doing and I don't know what I'm doing.
- 1:04:49[SPEAKER_01]: And it's easy to be, you know, get online and say something stupid.
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's easy to be in your emotions and, you know, say something disrespectful.
- 1:04:55[SPEAKER_01]: Because somebody didn't pick up their phone.
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_01]: it's easy, but how you treat me at a moment like this is going to tell if I can ever be okay with you the way we were again.
- 1:05:06[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what this moment is for us.
- 1:05:08[SPEAKER_00]: Moon Toro, we don't feel about pre-nups.
- 1:05:18[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't ever want one right, I'll say like my last relationship we were together for 14 years we built a lot of amazing things together right we still do business this day together right together not we still you know own stuff together I would never want to pre not
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_00]: What if you're super up and you met somebody that's not, maybe you love them, they love you and you are going to come together, but you have all this stuff going on.
- 1:05:47[SPEAKER_00]: You would ask in the same way.
- 1:05:50[SPEAKER_02]: I probably would, but I don't want to be up in there here though.
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_02]: I want us to figure out, in a relationship part, how do we get your business here so that we can balance, right?
- 1:06:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we got a coach, you know, all that while you're dating.
- 1:06:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:06:02[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm happy to do it in the marriage.
- 1:06:04[SPEAKER_02]: So I would rather be like, well, I'm dating to see if it's going to work before I jump into a marriage and now I understand that all this coaching I was doing was for absolutely nothing.
- 1:06:13[SPEAKER_01]: I would rather not do that or come to the, come to the table.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:06:17[SPEAKER_01]: With the chairs.
- 1:06:20[SPEAKER_01]: So there's no coaching.
- 1:06:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm learning how to build chairs and I'm going to teach you how to build this table And we equally yoke in the fact that we bring equalness to the table Yeah, but see this that's a hard conversation for me and I'm gonna tell you why I mean it's public knowledge that I never saw my marriage paperwork when Oh, maybe you didn't know
- 1:06:38[SPEAKER_00]: He said you didn't sign the paperwork.
- 1:06:39[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't sign the paperwork initially, when we had a huge live wedding.
- 1:06:45[SPEAKER_01]: And when we had our huge live wedding, this was to, for the minute I met, when D.C., I was like, I am going to marry him.
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_01]: I loved the way he walked, the way he talked, I loved the way his breast model of his hair, I loved everything about him.
- 1:06:56[SPEAKER_01]: So I knew this was gonna be my husband.
- 1:06:58[SPEAKER_01]: I knew that.
- 1:06:59[SPEAKER_01]: But when life hit, right, and right when it was time for us to say I do, he got indicted for something prior to us being together.
- 1:07:10[SPEAKER_01]: And right when our wedding happened, he hadn't been sent in yet.
- 1:07:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I knew a part of his sensing was going to be restitution.
- 1:07:20[SPEAKER_01]: I work hard for everything that I have.
- 1:07:22[SPEAKER_01]: And I come from a place that I can't go back to.
- 1:07:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I also always knew that I'll never go back to Grand Projects.
- 1:07:29[SPEAKER_01]: God bless everyone who still lives in Grand Project.
- 1:07:31[SPEAKER_01]: No shade to them.
- 1:07:32[SPEAKER_01]: I knew that I wasn't gonna go back to that.
- 1:07:34[SPEAKER_01]: And when I worked every step of the way from Howard University to end turning to working for $100 a week when I worked that violator to building the management company that I built to working at Atlantic Records.
- 1:07:46[SPEAKER_01]: And then,
- 1:07:46[SPEAKER_01]: branching off and starting loving hip-hop, every single thing that I did, I put the blood and the sweat and the tears, the tears, I don't wanna go back to the tears I cried in the mud and the dirt that I had to endure to get where I am.
- 1:07:59[SPEAKER_01]: So because of that, I knew that I could not help you pay restitution.
- 1:08:04[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 1:08:05[SPEAKER_01]: I knew this, I don't even wanna cause no issues, but for someone else out there, I'll put it on somebody else's hat.
- 1:08:11[SPEAKER_01]: I would not, if I was someone else, willing to pay child support.
- 1:08:15[SPEAKER_01]: because I'm married to you.
- 1:08:17[SPEAKER_01]: I worked hard.
- 1:08:18[SPEAKER_01]: I love your kids with all my soul.
- 1:08:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a love your kids with everything I got.
- 1:08:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm going to treat them as I birth them.
- 1:08:26[SPEAKER_01]: Now, but I'm not going to treat their mother to a pair of shoes.
- 1:08:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to treat her to her rent if she's not covering her bills the way she needs to.
- 1:08:36[SPEAKER_01]: And so when all of this happened, at first it was just that situation that we were dealing with.
- 1:08:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he had two younger children, and I knew that he would probably have to pay restitution.
- 1:08:47[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, I can't do that, you know, and at that time, we didn't know what the sense of he got sense into eight years.
- 1:08:54[SPEAKER_01]: So...
- 1:08:57[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I didn't know, and at that time, you know, I had properties.
- 1:09:02[SPEAKER_01]: I had a, I'm a saver.
- 1:09:04[SPEAKER_01]: I lived very modestly at that time.
- 1:09:06[SPEAKER_01]: I had a lot of cash or a lot of money in the bank, a lot of equity.
- 1:09:12[SPEAKER_01]: I had a lot of it.
- 1:09:13[SPEAKER_01]: when I, um, by the time I was getting married and I just thought about I'm protecting this bag for us for he and I and because I did that the minute he came home, we literally moved.
- 1:09:24[SPEAKER_01]: He was on house arrest when he, uh, and I, we bought the house while he was still on house arrest and the minute he got off house arrest, I was already in Atlanta.
- 1:09:34[SPEAKER_01]: He came two weeks after, but I was able to do that because I was able to protect the bag that we had.
- 1:09:39[SPEAKER_01]: And everything else, every car that we've wanted, we drove it, every the house that we wanted, we purchased the exact house we wanted, paid for it, we purchased my, I purchased my data house, we, we purchased other property, paid for it cash, no mortgage.
- 1:09:55[SPEAKER_01]: But this is because I was very clear on let me protect this for us so we can live this life.
- 1:10:01[SPEAKER_01]: So I am here for love, I am here for a union and I felt like I committed to this man in front of God and 300 people that were there in the crowd.
- 1:10:11[SPEAKER_01]: that was enough bowing for me.
- 1:10:14[SPEAKER_01]: I had everyone that was going to hold me accountable.
- 1:10:16[SPEAKER_01]: I did not want to be in business with the government and him.
- 1:10:18[SPEAKER_01]: I wanted to be in business with him.
- 1:10:21[SPEAKER_01]: I wanted to be in business with that man and my mom.
- 1:10:24[SPEAKER_01]: But I said, I'm going to love this man.
- 1:10:25[SPEAKER_01]: His mom.
- 1:10:25[SPEAKER_01]: But I said, I'm going to love the 300 people that were there to hold me accountable for if I wasn't loving him, right?
- 1:10:31[SPEAKER_01]: Not Uncle Sam.
- 1:10:32[SPEAKER_01]: Uncle Tom whatever his name is.
- 1:10:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know the means name.
- 1:10:36[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't want to be in business with him.
- 1:10:37[SPEAKER_01]: Because I knew that he was going to take from me and mine.
- 1:10:40[SPEAKER_01]: So should do a pre-nop, yeah?
- 1:10:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not answering that.
- 1:10:43[SPEAKER_01]: Being a business of love.
- 1:10:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I was saying.
- 1:10:46[SPEAKER_01]: Because let me take something.
- 1:10:47[SPEAKER_01]: It takes one day to get married to say I do.
- 1:10:50[SPEAKER_01]: I got friends at this over 10 years they still can't get divorced.
- 1:10:54[SPEAKER_01]: I was not going down that road.
- 1:10:56[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't, so, you know, we had to live with all that fake marriage.
- 1:10:59[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's it.
- 1:11:00[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:11:01[SPEAKER_00]: So when you said, oh, so you said you didn't sign the paperwork, it wasn't officially, and this, y'all weren't, y'all never officially been married.
- 1:11:08[SPEAKER_00]: Y'all just went through the process.
- 1:11:09[SPEAKER_01]: But then we went to Dubai, you know, in Dubai, because I don't know how to make work.
- 1:11:12[SPEAKER_01]: And you married.
- 1:11:14[SPEAKER_01]: You married.
- 1:11:14[SPEAKER_01]: But it doesn't necessarily.
- 1:11:16[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's not officially.
- 1:11:16[SPEAKER_01]: Man, I'm not here.
- 1:11:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's my marriage.
- 1:11:19[SPEAKER_01]: But I got children by this man.
- 1:11:21[SPEAKER_01]: I went home to this man every day.
- 1:11:22[SPEAKER_01]: He came home to me every day.
- 1:11:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's my husband.
- 1:11:24[SPEAKER_00]: But in the States, you aren't registered at that.
- 1:11:27[SPEAKER_01]: We weren't registered.
- 1:11:28[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 1:11:28[SPEAKER_01]: Nope.
- 1:11:29[SPEAKER_01]: We did on taxes separately.
- 1:11:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know, everything.
- 1:11:32[SPEAKER_01]: And again, even like, I remember being young and my mom and my dad, my mom and my dad's divorced.
- 1:11:39[SPEAKER_01]: My mom was still paying.
- 1:11:40[SPEAKER_01]: My dad's taxes 10 and 11 years after they were divorced.
- 1:11:44[SPEAKER_01]: And then, I know my dad doesn't like him.
- 1:11:46[SPEAKER_01]: I know my dad loved my mom.
- 1:11:47[SPEAKER_01]: Worshiped my mom to grandma mom walk on.
- 1:11:49[SPEAKER_01]: And he would not give her a divorce.
- 1:11:50[SPEAKER_01]: It took my mom over a decade to get divorced.
- 1:11:54[SPEAKER_00]: How does someone have to let you divorce them?
- 1:11:58[SPEAKER_00]: How does that work?
- 1:11:59[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know, but I know my mom, my dad would not sign the paperwork.
- 1:12:01[SPEAKER_01]: He would not sign the paperwork.
- 1:12:03[SPEAKER_01]: He signed it when I bought it to him like that.
- 1:12:05[SPEAKER_01]: Come on now, let my mother, and my mother is heavy in church.
- 1:12:08[SPEAKER_01]: My mother would not date, because she felt like she was still married.
- 1:12:11[SPEAKER_01]: She would not date and I was like almost in college like come on dad.
- 1:12:14[SPEAKER_00]: You look at this ain't right This this makes sense why you look at it from this perspective because you have experience where it is It's not good and then it could go bad But you have the benefit of living with someone like that.
- 1:12:26[SPEAKER_00]: I you might as well I'm your wife we got kids all that kind of stuff But I like how you said it we don't got to be in business with the government either Yeah, mm-hmm
- 1:12:35[SPEAKER_01]: This is Yandee's way of thinking.
- 1:12:37[SPEAKER_01]: I am not advising you.
- 1:12:38[SPEAKER_01]: I think marriage is a beautiful thing I think the union of love is a beautiful thing.
- 1:12:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think committing to someone before God is an amazing thing.
- 1:12:47[SPEAKER_01]: I do I just do not want to be in business with this government
- 1:12:52[SPEAKER_01]: I do not feel like I have to certify my love with you because this person said I need to sign here if the dotted line.
- 1:12:58[SPEAKER_01]: And now I have all these tax implications, all these financial implications, because what we also did, I made sure, let's have a medical proxy.
- 1:13:06[SPEAKER_01]: Something happens to me, you're the person they go to, you sign up.
- 1:13:08[SPEAKER_01]: So all the benefits of being a wife, I have power of attorney.
- 1:13:13[SPEAKER_01]: I had that every single thing that was important, when I was able to make all the decisions where he wasn't here, because I had his power of attorney.
- 1:13:21[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:13:22[SPEAKER_01]: So, you can even down to if we break up this couch goes with you, this couch goes with me, this bag of whatever it is, you can put everything in place so that you have things in order for the just in case, but I don't have to be in business with the government.
- 1:13:37[SPEAKER_01]: When I sign them taxes, is I am a single woman.
- 1:13:40[SPEAKER_00]: So you don't, you all see yourself ever being legally married, but you do see yourself being committed to someone.
- 1:13:49[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, I I never heard this perspective and you're good.
- 1:13:53[SPEAKER_00]: You give her a lot of men on here some ammo.
- 1:13:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like there was some yeah, but what she said that's why I keep saying that's why I keep practicing and this is me and my own personal trauma and the things that I have seen and I've been through and really I'm telling you I would have signed at the dotted line because I loved everything about that man.
- 1:14:10[SPEAKER_01]: It was just that he was getting ready to be sentenced.
- 1:14:13[SPEAKER_01]: and I did not know when I saw council on it, I did not know what the citizen was going to be, I did not know if he was going to have to pay restitution, and I did not know how child support would rear because he was going to be going for a certain amount of time.
- 1:14:26[SPEAKER_01]: So I did not want to have to
- 1:14:29[SPEAKER_01]: bear the burden of, you know, and unfortunately I didn't know if I was going to have, you know, be able to see the kids if they were going to be able to live with me.
- 1:14:36[SPEAKER_01]: So I didn't know what was going to happen.
- 1:14:38[SPEAKER_01]: So I didn't want because I have now joined with the government.
- 1:14:41[SPEAKER_01]: Now I have all these responsibilities of his.
- 1:14:44[SPEAKER_01]: Now some people might feel like I'm married this man.
- 1:14:46[SPEAKER_01]: So whatever he got going on that's what I got going on.
- 1:14:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's good for you.
- 1:14:50[SPEAKER_01]: You might not have put the mud in a dirt and
- 1:14:55[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't willing to put that mud and dirt back on my face to get up again, wasn't willing to do it.
- 1:14:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's good.
- 1:15:01[SPEAKER_00]: That is good.
- 1:15:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, first of all, this conversation.
- 1:15:04[SPEAKER_00]: One, it was all over the place.
- 1:15:05[SPEAKER_00]: It was all over the place.
- 1:15:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I enjoyed every minute of it.
- 1:15:09[SPEAKER_00]: What is the vision of you all as you and you all partnership with this restaurant?
- 1:15:14[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, absolutely.
- 1:15:15[SPEAKER_01]: We want more restaurants, more businesses, more community work, more community service together.
- 1:15:21[SPEAKER_01]: I could do a life bar.
- 1:15:23[SPEAKER_00]: I could bring another business partners?
- 1:15:25[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 1:15:26[SPEAKER_02]: probably not.
- 1:15:27[SPEAKER_00]: It depends on who.
- 1:15:28[SPEAKER_02]: It depends on who.
- 1:15:29[SPEAKER_02]: I was getting ready to say sure, but it depends on who.
- 1:15:31[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, I was like, I was not sure.
- 1:15:33[SPEAKER_02]: Why not?
- 1:15:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's like so whole.
- 1:15:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's the perfect.
- 1:15:35[SPEAKER_01]: It depends on who.
- 1:15:36[SPEAKER_02]: It depends on who.
- 1:15:38[SPEAKER_02]: It depends on who.
- 1:15:40[SPEAKER_02]: It depends on who.
- 1:15:40[SPEAKER_02]: Because you can't get in business and bet with everybody.
- 1:15:43[SPEAKER_02]: But if the person have like the same vision, same goals.
- 1:15:48[SPEAKER_02]: Because you don't want to get a business partner in we work in a U.L.man a bad.
- 1:15:53[SPEAKER_02]: Like, no, thank you.
- 1:15:54[SPEAKER_00]: But just take on other
- 1:15:56[SPEAKER_02]: It depends on who, I don't think it's being white because I'm like, yeah, I think it depends on who, because what we want to take the brand is so is it's a nationally known brand.
- 1:16:07[SPEAKER_02]: So we want it to be your root creature, cheese cake factory, you know, your cheese and your community.
- 1:16:12[SPEAKER_02]: So absolutely, for sure, but it just depends on who yeah, yeah, because all my knee ain't good money and everybody ain't good people.
- 1:16:26[SPEAKER_00]: When do you feel like because I want to be able to watch this later and say, wow, I called it.
- 1:16:32[SPEAKER_00]: When do you think you have your next partner restaurant together?
- 1:16:36[SPEAKER_00]: Bye.
- 1:16:38[SPEAKER_02]: next year, definitely 27, next year, yeah, sure.
- 1:16:41[SPEAKER_02]: It could happen in the 20.
- 1:16:43[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I'm the one who'll be like, hey, yo, this project and then you ain't to be like, yeah, and Rob will be like, no, definitely next year.
- 1:16:51[SPEAKER_01]: We're already looking and you know, figuring out things that the capital is there for sure.
- 1:17:01[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I would love New York.
- 1:17:03[SPEAKER_01]: I would love to bring it home.
- 1:17:05[SPEAKER_01]: I would bring it home, but I also think there's expansion growth in Miami.
- 1:17:09[SPEAKER_02]: There's this Orlando, um, I mean, the bread wants to see a new vote in Chicago for sure.
- 1:17:16[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:17:16[SPEAKER_02]: She wants to see a new one.
- 1:17:17[SPEAKER_02]: I think New York Chicago, Orlando between the three.
- 1:17:22[SPEAKER_00]: So know it, Liam, here.
- 1:17:24[SPEAKER_00]: I mean no no what Atlanta we're in Atlanta.
- 1:17:28[SPEAKER_02]: I mean we're out on the outskirts of Atlanta Yeah, that's what we're talking about.
- 1:17:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean technically, but I'm talking about like in the city the heart of Atlanta.
- 1:17:38[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I wouldn't mind.
- 1:17:40[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't even considered it.
- 1:17:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's not on the list also.
- 1:17:42[SPEAKER_02]: No, I wouldn't it's probably on Rob's list because he keeps saying that Atlanta needs a new world like we need to be in midtown Bucket he keeps saying that and I actually went and looked at a restaurant But it was in Marietta But it didn't like it The first restaurant
- 1:18:00[SPEAKER_00]: The first source is Nouveau, the one and the cat is right.
- 1:18:03[SPEAKER_00]: But the one y'all partner with is Miami, right?
- 1:18:06[SPEAKER_00]: Did y'all wrap in all the other thing as a partnership or everything moving forward is a joint venture.
- 1:18:12[SPEAKER_01]: everything before.
- 1:18:13[SPEAKER_01]: However, I'm, if someone's in Atlanta, I might go to Nubo because I'm like, that's my baby too.
- 1:18:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, she'll pull up.
- 1:18:20[SPEAKER_01]: She'll pull up.
- 1:18:20[SPEAKER_01]: She's at the rest of it.
- 1:18:22[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 1:18:23[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 1:18:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's the brand and the brand is what we want to make strong.
- 1:18:26[SPEAKER_01]: Same difference.
- 1:18:27[SPEAKER_01]: You see me at essence at Yandy's Yale and I'm really working at what it's selling.
- 1:18:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like, hey,
- 1:18:32[SPEAKER_00]: What's yeah, what's yeah.
- 1:18:33[SPEAKER_02]: That's yeah.
- 1:18:33[SPEAKER_02]: That's my skin care on.
- 1:18:35[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, where where's it?
- 1:18:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's my yellow skin care.
- 1:18:36[SPEAKER_01]: So we're blooming daels.
- 1:18:37[SPEAKER_01]: Well, she was just on more essence.
- 1:18:38[SPEAKER_01]: My essence booth.
- 1:18:39[SPEAKER_01]: And we do a large activation of essence every year.
- 1:18:43[SPEAKER_01]: So one of the years she came and I'm like, every week, come on, we got a pretty booze traps up.
- 1:18:47[SPEAKER_01]: I need you right here.
- 1:18:48[SPEAKER_01]: It was packed.
- 1:18:49[SPEAKER_01]: And it was everywhere.
- 1:18:50[SPEAKER_01]: So she was selling skin care.
- 1:18:51[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, I was saying, but I have all a skin care.
- 1:18:53[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't even let her give me skin care.
- 1:18:55[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I'll come in and buy that one.
- 1:18:58[SPEAKER_01]: The first time I met Ebony at an event first, but really when, when she one day I was at Essence and this is, I think about it in my first year at Essence.
- 1:19:06[SPEAKER_01]: And Ebony came over and she's like, I need something for my skin and I'm telling her all about the products, you know, me and my whole family's there.
- 1:19:12[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, all right, I'm gonna buy it for my own me and my staff.
- 1:19:15[SPEAKER_01]: Let me have 20 systems.
- 1:19:16[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, I didn't add three more.
- 1:19:18[SPEAKER_01]: Give me 23 systems.
- 1:19:19[SPEAKER_01]: I was like huh, so now we're more like working trying to get all these systems together And I was like, what was that?
- 1:19:24[SPEAKER_01]: Who is this then we went outside?
- 1:19:26[SPEAKER_01]: She's like I got a new vote truck And then we went outside and bought a bunch of stuff from the truck Yeah, cuz I'm like, you know one hand watch the other and now was like my first like who is this chick?
- 1:19:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but my whole family have y'all literally my whole family.
- 1:19:39[SPEAKER_02]: My mama called me like, hey, I'm almost out So it's gonna line again and I'm joking.
- 1:19:44[SPEAKER_02]: I send it.
- 1:19:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I have a beautiful relationship.
- 1:19:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it is.
- 1:19:47[SPEAKER_00]: This is I think this is a picture of how things go Work because most people weren't just hard connecting.
- 1:19:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard doing anything with another human being I think that's why the divorce rate the way it is because when you do something what do you say me
- 1:20:04[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 1:20:05[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we love each other, but I don't know if I have like any strategy, but we love each other.
- 1:20:09[SPEAKER_00]: I love every other.
- 1:20:10[SPEAKER_01]: I love every other.
- 1:20:12[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:20:12[SPEAKER_00]: Very respectful.
- 1:20:14[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and did you find that in your seventh year there was a seven year hump?
- 1:20:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like, did you have like, did the seventh year feel different?
- 1:20:26[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 1:20:26[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 1:20:27[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 1:20:27[SPEAKER_00]: A seven week of the year.
- 1:20:28[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 1:20:28[SPEAKER_00]: That might be the eighth day.
- 1:20:30[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 1:20:34[SPEAKER_00]: seven years of thing.
- 1:20:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think the third year, I mean, it's circumstantial, so you got the thing for the pandemic.
- 1:20:41[SPEAKER_00]: It was cool, but she got pregnant, and that is a dynamic.
- 1:20:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, my mom passes, that's another dynamic.
- 1:20:50[SPEAKER_00]: Something else is going to happen at some point to put stress on, so I don't know what year it is, but as long as you're committed to the relationship, you're committed to learning each other
- 1:21:04[SPEAKER_00]: If there's a situation where she sees things one way, I see things another way, I just realize this is not the hill that I want to die on, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this year, it's not this
- 1:21:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing it.
- 1:21:32[SPEAKER_00]: I don't mean all of the do it.
- 1:21:33[SPEAKER_01]: But let me tell you, okay, one thing, go get her outfit.
- 1:21:38[SPEAKER_00]: Go get her outfit.
- 1:21:39[SPEAKER_01]: Get her outfit that you want to dress that you want to see her in.
- 1:21:42[SPEAKER_00]: Let me see if this works.
- 1:21:43[SPEAKER_00]: Let me see if this for what you're saying.
- 1:21:45[SPEAKER_00]: Today, I got to go to the mall to get my kids and basketball kids.
- 1:21:49[SPEAKER_00]: Perfect.
- 1:21:49[SPEAKER_01]: Go to Bloomingdale, go get a dress, pick her up some yellow skin care, and get her a dress.
- 1:21:55[SPEAKER_00]: I can't get her a dress.
- 1:21:56[SPEAKER_01]: Why can't you?
- 1:21:57[SPEAKER_01]: You know her size.
- 1:21:58[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna get the wrong dress.
- 1:21:59[SPEAKER_01]: That's fine.
- 1:22:01[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have too many numbers.
- 1:22:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's like six, seven, 39.
- 1:22:05[SPEAKER_01]: Look at a person and say, this is what you do.
- 1:22:09[SPEAKER_01]: My wife is about that size.
- 1:22:10[SPEAKER_01]: Give me a dress that size.
- 1:22:11[SPEAKER_01]: The truth lies.
- 1:22:12[SPEAKER_01]: That you like.
- 1:22:13[SPEAKER_01]: If you like sexy, if you like flooring, whatever you like pick out the dress, she got shoes on the shirt, pick out the dress, okay?
- 1:22:20[SPEAKER_01]: Then what I want you to do, baby, I don't know what you got sat at, I don't plan that for saturday.
- 1:22:24[SPEAKER_01]: I made you a hair, do you know her hair silence?
- 1:22:27[SPEAKER_00]: Some lady.
- 1:22:28[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
- 1:22:29[SPEAKER_01]: Find the lady's number.
- 1:22:30[SPEAKER_01]: Our major appointment now.
- 1:22:31[SPEAKER_01]: We need you to make the appointment.
- 1:22:33[SPEAKER_01]: Our major appointment with some lady.
- 1:22:36[SPEAKER_01]: Have the lady ready for her.
- 1:22:37[SPEAKER_00]: All right, hold on.
- 1:22:38[SPEAKER_00]: You got, yeah, no, no.
- 1:22:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'll get off.

- 1:22:43[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to boom and deal with it already, correct?
- 1:22:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:22:45[SPEAKER_01]: Get the dress.
- 1:22:46[SPEAKER_01]: That's easy.
- 1:22:47[SPEAKER_01]: Any store has dresses.

- 1:30:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's not.
- 1:30:52[SPEAKER_02]: So do you know what's the app?

- 1:31:35[SPEAKER_01]: You could do that.
- 1:31:35[SPEAKER_01]: And the fact that you so humbly admitted, I don't do anything romantic.
- 1:31:40[SPEAKER_01]: Let me get you the sense you said that you have to do this.
- 1:31:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm locked in.
- 1:31:44[SPEAKER_00]: I do follow instructions now.
- 1:31:46[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:31:47[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't think of it.
- 1:31:52[SPEAKER_01]: You're giving me, you're giving very men, so that's fine.
- 1:31:56[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, God.

- 1:32:17[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, but there's a lot of women that will like disregard a man because they don't do the things and like we're not wired at
- 1:32:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, I know.
- 1:32:24[SPEAKER_01]: I learned 21 years ago.
- 1:32:26[SPEAKER_01]: I learned he's just wired though because he hears a thing.
- 1:32:29[SPEAKER_01]: There is a thing where is can he do it or is he willing right?
- 1:32:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's able to do it and I think sometimes it's just like y'all just are not able.
- 1:32:39[SPEAKER_01]: They're willing But you just don't know how so it's like it's a question of ability more so than willingness.
- 1:32:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah
- 1:32:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's why I give grace because it's just like you're willing to do things But you're just not able.
- 1:32:50[SPEAKER_00]: You're not wired that way You don't have the tools.
- 1:32:52[SPEAKER_02]: You don't have the tools.
- 1:32:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so imagine being out to eat and he play a song And now your wife name is in that song.
- 1:32:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's called forever songs I promise you like they it's $24 a song and in that song you have to have like where you're mad And think about where you're mad or you're being from Florida.
- 1:33:07[SPEAKER_02]: I'm from Jersey You can put you can put notes in there what you want so that they don't know that song What's your baby girls or your baby boys name?
- 1:33:14[SPEAKER_01]: uh... so i'm sorry did you put that name in the way you know we came up with some's name it was from some one thirty nine uh... like yeah put things in the song that she's gonna she when she's when it's playing she's not gonna notice that first and she's gonna hear songs name and be like and if you go here florida she'll be like

- 1:34:57[SPEAKER_01]: So, we do that.
- 1:34:57[SPEAKER_01]: We give them a platform to sell their businesses.
- 1:34:59[SPEAKER_01]: I try to do it once a month during the hot months.
- 1:35:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's been super crazy.
- 1:35:03[SPEAKER_01]: So, this is actually our first one towards the end of the year.
- 1:35:07[SPEAKER_01]: And this festival, we connected with the City of College Park.
- 1:35:11[SPEAKER_01]: with Councilman Gay and it is going to be huge.
- 1:35:14[SPEAKER_01]: We have carnival rides, we have a rodeo, we have basketball, celebrate basketball game.
- 1:35:19[SPEAKER_01]: Helicopters come in landed.
- 1:35:20[SPEAKER_01]: Two stage main performances.
- 1:35:21[SPEAKER_01]: The city really got behind it in a huge way.
- 1:35:24[SPEAKER_01]: And it's scheduled to have like three to five thousand people.
- 1:35:27[SPEAKER_01]: Normally I might have like 500 people, 300 people, but this is three to five thousand people.
- 1:35:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's great to go.
- 1:35:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so these businesses are going to sell out.
- 1:35:35[SPEAKER_01]: They, when we do our little event, they sell out.
- 1:35:37[SPEAKER_01]: So they're going to sell out.
- 1:35:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I just hope that everyone leaves
- 1:35:42[SPEAKER_01]: more fulfilled, more joys about their business.
- 1:35:45[SPEAKER_01]: One thing about me when in business and any business that I create, it's about the people and it's about making people feel good when it comes to my yellow skin care line.
- 1:35:52[SPEAKER_01]: The restaurants was about serving people and really having a place where people can commune.
- 1:35:57[SPEAKER_01]: and come together.
- 1:35:59[SPEAKER_01]: And then when I create TV shows, it's about giving people a safe space to show their lives, tell their stories, whatever those may be.
- 1:36:06[SPEAKER_01]: The beautiful side of life, the ugly side of life, the gritty side of life, the coming through the hard times.
- 1:36:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's important that as we navigate this world to be kind, right?
- 1:36:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think money can open up some doors, but kindness can open up doors that money just cannot open.
- 1:36:22[SPEAKER_01]: And that has always been super important to me
- 1:36:27[SPEAKER_01]: So I want to make sure that I create an ecosystem where people love up on each other.
- 1:36:32[SPEAKER_01]: And then of course, make money while you do that.
- 1:36:34[SPEAKER_01]: So that's kind of been what's important to me and creating great collaborations like my partnership with Ebony.
- 1:36:39[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't come into this game in competition.
- 1:36:42[SPEAKER_01]: She taught me things that I didn't know when she could have been like this my competition.
- 1:36:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm good.
- 1:36:46[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that that has kind of been the model for me and it's been pretty successful.
- 1:36:51[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 1:36:51[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 1:36:52[SPEAKER_00]: Cool.
- 1:36:52[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 1:36:53[SPEAKER_00]: So any websites that they can get you right?
- 1:36:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:36:55[SPEAKER_01]: You can go to yelskincare.com and please follow Nouveau Miami on Instagram on TikTok.
- 1:37:02[SPEAKER_01]: Follow yelskincare.
- 1:37:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's pretty much it for me.
- 1:37:05[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty much it.
- 1:37:06[SPEAKER_02]: That's all for you.
- 1:37:07[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, minus Ebony Akira, um, if I had to leave a gym, I would leave never underestimate the power of believing in yourself.
- 1:37:14[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I think so many times, so often we really don't realize what's in us.
- 1:37:19[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and only way to really realize what's in use, you start putting things out, put it out in the atmosphere, speak things, speak it into existence before it even comes out.
- 1:37:27[SPEAKER_02]: You never know.
- 1:37:29[SPEAKER_02]: how much power is in your tongue.
- 1:37:30[SPEAKER_02]: So for me, I don't say we're having a slow day.
- 1:37:32[SPEAKER_02]: I said, tomorrow is going to be a better day, right?
- 1:37:35[SPEAKER_02]: So I think there's just being mindful of what you're speaking out to the atmosphere.
- 1:37:38[SPEAKER_02]: God here is that.
- 1:37:39[SPEAKER_02]: So just make sure when you're speaking it out, you're speaking out positivity and just believing yourself a little bit more.
- 1:37:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:37:45[SPEAKER_00]: How can it connect with you?
- 1:37:46[SPEAKER_02]: Mine is Avenue, Kira.
- 1:37:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, there it is, make sure you check out the restaurant like him and thank you all so much for coming.

- 1:38:26[SPEAKER_00]: We out.
