- Lucas: Hey, welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Ready for another tiny Spanish lesson? Lucas: Absolutely. We've been in the park a lot lately, but there's one thing we haven't talked about yet. Luna: Ohh, what is it? Lucas: The water fountain. In Spanish, it's called 'la fuente de agua'. Luna: La fuente de agua. That sounds nice. La fuente de agua. Lucas: Perfect. So imagine you're at the park, it's hot, and you're thirsty. You could say: 'Tengo sed'. Luna: Tengo sed. I'm thirsty. Lucas: Exactly. So if you're at the park and you see the water fountain, you might say: 'Tengo sed. Voy a beber agua de la fuente'. Luna: Tengo sed. Voy a beber agua de la fuente. That's a whole sentence. Lucas: It is. But let's break it down. 'Beber agua' means 'to drink water'. Can you say that? Luna: Beber agua. Beber agua. Lucas: Great. Now, to use the fountain, you usually have to turn a handle. In Spanish, we say 'abrir el grifo' to open the tap, and 'cerrar el grifo' to close it. Luna: Abrir el grifo... cerrar el grifo. So when I'm done drinking, I close it. Lucas: Exactly. So a little scene: you're at the park, you're thirsty, you go to the water fountain. You say: 'Tengo sed. Voy a abrir el grifo y beber agua.' Then you drink, and then: 'Cierro el grifo.' Luna: Okay, let me try. Tengo sed. Voy a abrir el grifo y beber agua. Cierro el grifo. How was that? Lucas: That was really good. One tiny tweak: the last part is 'cierro el grifo' with a 'c' sound, not a 's'. Luna: Cierro el grifo. Cierro. Got it. Lucas: Perfect. Let's do a quick practice. I'll say the English, and you say the Spanish. 'I'm thirsty.' Luna: Tengo sed. Lucas: To drink water. Luna: Beber agua. Lucas: Open the tap. Luna: Abrir el grifo. Lucas: Close the tap. Luna: Cerrar el grifo. Lucas: Awesome. Now, let's put it together in a little story. You're at the park, and you say: 'Tengo sed. Voy a la fuente de agua. Abro el grifo, bebo agua, y cierro el grifo. ¡Qué bien!' Luna: Tengo sed. Voy a la fuente de agua. Abro el grifo, bebo agua, y cierro el grifo. ¡Qué bien! I love that. Lucas: You did it. And that's exactly how you'd use it in real life. Luna: You know, it's cool that we can learn these small things that actually help us get by. Lucas: Yeah, and that's the whole idea behind Fexingo. If it's been helping you make real progress, a lot of listeners have been asking how to support the show. A couple of dollars a month on buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo genuinely keeps these episodes going. Luna: Yeah, it really does make a difference. And we appreciate every bit. Lucas: So back to the fountain. One more time: 'la fuente de agua'. Luna: La fuente de agua. Lucas: And if you ever see one, you'll know exactly what to say. Practice these phrases until we meet again. ¡Hasta luego! Luna: ¡Hasta luego!
