- 1:00and Desandra. Well, now it's time for today's episode of the Lineup the
- 1:06Mad Bomb. Ladies and gentlemen, we take you behind the scenes of a
- 1:11police headquarters in a great American city, or under the cold glaring lights.
- 1:15Will passed before us the innocent, the vagrant, the thief, the murderer.
- 1:21This is the lineup tonight. The Lineup is presented by your nearby Plymouth
- 1:38dealer Saturday. He presents the most exciting Plymouth ever built. Before we join
- 1:49the lineup, let's eavesdrop on one end of a telephone convert Hello, Chief
- 1:57Ryan talking, Yeah, yeah, who did it? Plymouth? Did it?
- 2:01Turned out the car sensation of the ear can't get you the whole loadown
- 2:05yet? But Saturday's the big day. Yeah, they'll crack it. Then
- 2:07the whole mystery surrounding the new Plymouth. Everybody's gonna know on Saturday. What's
- 2:13that close? Oh sure, a couple of swell leads For one thing.
- 2:17The new Plymouth has safety flow ride. Now take it from me, Chief,
- 2:22that is one terrific story. Those Plymouth engineers have come up with a
- 2:25tremendous development. Not just the kind of improvement you expect in any new model.
- 2:34This is a sensational new idea. And get this payoff. The new
- 2:37Plymouth skims over bumps and holes like it was floating, takes the bouncing wallop
- 2:40out of those rough roads or you swear you were gliding down a super highway.
- 2:45And oh, Chief, gotta cut this off. But remember that lead
- 2:50new Plymouth with safety flow ride this coming Saturday. Yeah, Chief, I'll
- 2:53keep on it. And we can see the hands. How many men will
- 3:15we look at thirty one all together? A man probably won't be any of
- 3:19these, but we want to cover every possibility. May I have your attention
- 3:23to kill people out there on the side of the wire in the audience room,
- 3:27May I have your attentions? Yes, thank you, My name is
- 3:31Graham, Sargeant Matt Breb I'll explain the lineup to you. Each of the
- 3:35suspects you will see will be numbered. I'll call up a number their name
- 3:38and chard. If you have any questions or identification, please renumber the number
- 3:45a sign of the prisoner as I call his name at the end of each
- 3:47line. When I asked for questions or identification, all up the number.
- 3:53If you're sure, I'm not too sure of a suspect, have him held.
- 3:57The officers who took your name will assist to their seat. Of them.
- 4:00You please be propped with your questions or identifications. When the prisoners leave
- 4:04here, they are sent to the bathroom and dress back into bed jail clothes.
- 4:09It makes it quite difficult to bring them back after they leave here.
- 4:12The questions I asked these suspects, I'm merely to get a natural tone of
- 4:15voice, so do not pay too much attention to their answers, as they
- 4:17often lie. Bring on the line, okay, man, move on up
- 4:23to the end of the stage. Right up to the end, as striking
- 4:28out, turning face front hands. The sides look straight ahead, and I
- 4:32want to ask the questions. Talk up, so the people in the back.

- 6:54week. Oh she why do you live at six forty four North Hudson.
- 6:59Yes, the report session broke a window at that address. The door was
- 7:02locked. I broke one other night too when she locked me out. I
- 7:05won't keep right on breaking them until she leaves door unlocked. Maybe you'd better
- 7:10stop drinking. Yes, sir, any questions are right down about them?

- 8:20of the explosion must have been about eight or ten sticks of dynamite. Sure
- 8:24lucky you and the family were in the back of the house. Very lucky.
- 8:28Well, we'll do our best to catch whoever it was. And probably
- 8:31just a crank man like myself. Politics, public figure, it makes a
- 8:33lot of enemies for one reason or another. Maybe this one didn't vote him
- 8:37in the last elections, Ergeant, we'll come to think of it. Maybe
- 8:39he did. Yeah, well, we may want to talk to you again,
- 8:43mister hundred, in case we come up with something in My family and
- 8:46I are going to stay over with my mother's until the house is fixed.

- 9:18he and his wife are in the hospital. They've got a child and the
- 9:20child's all right. Ruined the house though Adams and his wife had badly and
- 9:26I don't know how. Ambulance took him away and I'll have to check with
- 9:28the hospital. It's just awful. Everybody should certainly be worn, and they
- 9:31will be. We'll put a man with you and your family, mister Hunter,
- 9:35and the Meanwhile, we will go and look in this Adams house.
- 9:56There's fine kind of man over. He saw that I had a plant at
- 10:01the bomb went on, and let's go talk to him. I go over
- 10:03and talk to Keith Anderson, Matt. See what he's got to say about
- 10:05the diamonds yet, sure the lands and neighbors had clump. Let's the clumb
- 10:11This is uSens dupery. Now I am the clump and meat. And let's
- 10:16move over here where we can talk down. Tell him then it just what
- 10:22you saw me, mister club. About four thirty I was working in my
- 10:24backyard mowing the lawn. I saw Missus Adams getting a car and drive out
- 10:28of the garage. About an hour later, I went around front to get
- 10:31the hose and I saw an old truck pull up across the street, right
- 10:35over there by lamp post, and I say, tall man, get out,
- 10:39kind of an old man, old clothes. Huh. Went around the
- 10:41back of the truck and took out something and looked like a box up about
- 10:46this big right this thick to the hose and started around back. I noticed
- 10:50this man walked across the street with a box, looked like he was heading
- 10:52for the Adams house. A couple of hours later, I was sitting in
- 10:56my living room and I saw him mister and missus Adams pull up and fund
- 10:58the house and go in for a while. Later, my wife and I
- 11:01were happened dinner and the explosion happened, busted most of the winners in our
- 11:05house. That I didn't think about the old guy without a box, and
- 11:09I found out what had happened. And I remembered reading about this at apartment
- 11:11yesterday, thinking that the old guy was kind might have been the bomb.
- 11:16But can you remember what this old guy looked like? Maybe if I saw
- 11:20him again? And what kind of a truck was he driving? Well?
- 11:22Real o jeloppy, you know on those pickup Huh? How did you get
- 11:26the line? Why would I get it? I didn't even think anything about
- 11:33it, and they'll after the explosion, I see, Well, can you
- 11:37tell us a little bit more about the old guy? All he wore dirty
- 11:41cover rolls and another jacket if I remember right, he didn't have a hat
- 11:45remebody looked like he needed a haircut. Apartment how I told he was older
- 11:48at gray hair almost white cover rogs and the jacket. It was pretty dirty.
- 11:52But if you saw him again, you think you might recognize him?
- 11:54Yeah, I think so. I was. Thank you very much, mister
- 11:56Crump. We'll keep in touch with him, right the cline. Get mister
- 12:00Crum's phone number and anything we might need. All right, I'll be up
- 12:01with man. Okay, yeah, Oh jeez, I've got three Let miss
- 12:09him. The bomb do all that bomb and the fire. He used more
- 12:13dynamite than the last time. Oh, this room sky high, and watch
- 12:20out for that glass there right enner of the explosion was right about here.
- 12:24Uh huh. Probably walked up to the side of the house, stuck the
- 12:28bomb into that opening on the foundation there. Surprised nobody saw him. When
- 12:33somebody thinks he didn't, Well, you better catch this boy. He hasn't
- 12:37killed anybody yet, but he's trying very hard. Who boy, it's getting
- 13:03cold. Paper says, snow. How'd you make up with Trump? Oh?
- 13:07Nothing, he don't see the whole mug file. Another thing. And
- 13:09we talked to the hospital this morning. Adams are going to be all right
- 13:13now, luck on that old pickup truck. Why don't you turn up the
- 13:18hate man? H Okay, sure, I bet we get a blizzard.
- 13:22We'll do you godree. Yeah. What was he wearying? That sounds like
- 13:33him? Yeah, we'll be right down. Well, maybe we got the
- 13:37bomber. Yeah. Twenty five minutes ago picked up a man wearing old coveralls
- 13:41and a dirty leather jacket coming out of the state building. He spotted him,
- 13:45followed them three blocks before they grabbed him, climbing into an old pickup
- 13:48truck back with thirty sticks of dynamite alls that man. Yeah, yeah,
- 14:07I've got Crump sitting out front. How many men are you're gonna show them?
- 14:09Three beside the suspect round came, I don't go sit with Rump.
- 14:16Well, mister Crump, Hello, oh, I'm turning guests there. I
- 14:20couldn't see where you want you to look at some suspects. And that's what
- 14:24Sergeant Greb told me. We think one of them might be the man who
- 14:26plant of the bombs. I hope I can help you, I hope.
- 14:30So all right, Ben, run him on a right, right, okay,
- 14:35man, move out on the stage stand on the line basse trunk.
- 14:39They've all got on coveralls, another jacket, and take a good look the
- 14:45man on the end of test and what about him? That's the man,
- 14:46no doubt about it. I remember better than I thought I would. He's
- 14:50the one that got out of the truck, all right, the one with
- 14:52the box. All right, Matt, run him off right, that's all
- 14:54man, that's all off. Well, I think you picked the right one.
- 14:58That's the man. I saw him in my house. We'll need a
- 15:01statement from you, mister Krum's sure. Sure. What were the others arrested
- 15:03for? They weren't arrested, mister Krump. Three others were police officers.
- 15:20Do you drive a car? Do you ride in one? If so,
- 15:24you've got a brand new experience in store for you. Plymouth spectacular safety floor
- 15:28ride, a sensational new use of hydraulic principles that gives you a smooth ride
- 15:33on any kind of road, Yes, even those dirt roads outside of town
- 15:37and the warrant pavement you've been avoiding because of the bumps. Drive a new
- 15:41Plymouth over stretches like that, and you won't believe your senses. One seat
- 15:46or back, you'd think you were traveling a smooth, paved highway. But
- 15:50don't take my word for it. Prove it to yourself Saturday at your nearby
- 15:54Plymouth dealers, arrange for your ride and the most exciting Plymouth ever built.
- 16:12He's going to be a tough nut. Arresting officers couldn't get a thing out
- 16:17of him. We've got men over there talking with people in the State building.
- 16:21So far, nobody remember seeing him come in and say his name is
- 16:23Lewis Black. Yeah, yeah, driver's license, gave his addresses nineteen ten
- 16:29nies. Flower passers over there now checking. I wonder what he was doing
- 16:33in the State building. I'm worried too him. I wonder if oh,
- 16:38no, no, no, he couldn't have a big building. And I
- 16:41hope you'll right. I'm almost black and I'm Lieutenant Guthrane, Sergeant Graham quiet,
- 16:49yeah, I see upstairs right, Well, sit down, Lewis.
- 16:56We want to talk to you about those bombings. We know you made those
- 17:00bombs. A man saw you walk up to the Adams House with one of
- 17:03them. You're cold and man, yeah, yeah, starting to snow.
- 17:08That's right now, Look, why don't you tell us about it? Oh?
- 17:12I made him sure why I made him. I don't have to tell
- 17:18you why you put one of them under George Hunter's house? Do you know
- 17:22him? I know, but you don't know him personally? Nope? Did
- 17:26you know Adams? Nope? And why'd you try to go? And I've
- 17:29been out of work? Isn't the heating here something? You've been out of
- 17:33work long? Yes? Hunter or Adams have something to do with him.
- 17:37You sure want to know why I made those bombs, don't. Well,
- 17:41we'd like to know. There's no fun being out of work. I haven't
- 17:44out of work for a long time. You ever been out of work?
- 17:45Yeah? I didn't know. It's no fun. You try to get a
- 17:48job. Sure, I couldn't get him when I kept trying, just couldn't
- 17:52get one. Look, do we have to fit in here? It's really
- 17:56getting cold. We'll get out of here as soon as you tell us all
- 17:57about I'm pushing me. I don't like being pushed around. I can stand
- 18:03it down as long as you kid, we're not trying to push you.
- 18:07Yeah, we don't like this any better than you do. Just a job
- 18:11wired us. It'd be somebody else. Okay. If you had a job,
- 18:15you'd try to do what the best you could, wouldn't you? Shore
- 18:18and I used to have jobs all the time. We always did the best
- 18:19you couldn't And what kind of jobs did you have? All kinds? I
- 18:22was in minor ones when I worked in Pennsylvania. That's where you're from,
- 18:26Lowis Pennsylvania. Yeah. I done all kinds of jobs once, and I
- 18:30couldn't get at the job. Nobody would give me one. That's the trouble
- 18:33is not enough jobs. They ought to do something about getting jobs for people.
- 18:37A bunch of dirty politicians. They don't worry about guys like me.
- 18:40No, they make speech and oh shure they get it like they don't do
- 18:42nothing like Adams and Hunter. You're done right, Adams and Hunter the whole
- 18:45budget, even the mayor. Sure, the mayor and the governor. Oh
- 18:48he's the worst one of them. Oh he's the biggest. He could do
- 18:52something if we wanted to do. When he'd done, he had a job
- 18:55in three years. You'd like to take care of the governor like Adams and
- 18:59Hunter, wouldn't you know. I'm not gonna tell you anything. You think
- 19:03I'm gonna tell you something done, but I'm not. What were you doing
- 19:07in the State Building and to try and find uh block. Lewis. We
- 19:12don't want you to get into any more trouble than you're already young. I
- 19:15don't want to talk anymore. I want to go back to my sal I'm
- 19:18cool. You can go back to her sell as soon as you tell us
- 19:21all about done? Yeah, heaving you all got I got a janitor upstairs
- 19:27from the State Building. You remember seeing Lewis Black come into the building?
- 19:32Build a side entrance, he says, Black was carrying a big box hole.
- 19:34Look see that the State Building is cleared as fast as possible. Rope
- 19:38off the street, step on it, right, Lewis, I just found
- 19:47out that you pointed a bomb in the State Building. I don't care what
- 19:49you found out. I'm not going to tell you. I'm tired of playing
- 19:52with you, Lewis. Where's that bomb? Where'd you put? Oh?
- 19:56You can do anything you want to me. Go on, get rough beating
- 19:57me up. I won't tell you where I put that, mom, but
- 20:00at least tell us when is set to go off? What time is it?
- 20:03Six minutes to five? He won't find it. How much time?
- 20:10Oh about forty minutes again? Yes, everybody's out of the building, find
- 20:34out where he put it. Oh, he wants it to go off.
- 20:37We got him over in the car with Walter Win Asham. I'll keep working
- 20:41on him. Harvey, Captain Phillips, Deviolitionarywood and Phillips, Ben Guthrie,
- 20:48I hope we can use you now what kind of a bomb it is?
- 20:51Quine, I'll tell you all. We know. We've got to get into
- 20:52that building. You're trying to find it. Thirty men in there now,
- 20:55covering every floor, and who's insuring Arrason's in the basement? Come on,
- 20:57man, fright. Sometimes when we get about twenty five minutes more less,
- 21:07call any luck enough, I'll not get Harrison's still in the basement. Yeah,
- 21:12dout there, Okay, Harrison over here, Ben Well any luck?
- 21:25No? How much time? We got a list in twenty five minutes?
- 21:27What order said you go? If the bomb's found, it's to be taken
- 21:30directly to the street. If we've still got any time life to Carl drive
- 21:34it to a safe place. That army man get here. Yeah, yeah,
- 21:37he see well owns the way I wanted to go. It's five thirteen
- 21:41by my watch, such yours right, and exactly I find twenty five audio
- 21:45men out of him. Tell him they got ten minutes to get clear.
- 21:48We'll go tell the rest on the other floors. Can you run an elevator?
- 21:55Man, Yeah, sure, we'll take the second floor. I'll take
- 21:56the Aldermance, third, fifth, and so on. Be sure, they
- 21:59said I watch it with yours, right right, sergeant, you gotta watches.

- 23:11Then what get out of here? Wait a minute, Wait a minute.
- 23:15If you'll find out what that bomb is, who's gonna watch Black while you
- 23:18get it. I'll worry about that when I get to it. No,
- 23:21No, I'm staying. Okay, I can't argue. How about it?
- 23:22Black? You want to tell us where it is. You will never find
- 23:26it? What time is it? Five twenty eight? Oh, you can't
- 23:30scare me? You think you could keep me here? I'll tell you where
- 23:33the bomb is it about five minutes? Huh? I guess so? Yeah,
- 23:37very smart? I said forty minutes. Well maybe forty, maybe not.
- 23:41I can't be sure. Might go off any saying I guess so?
- 23:44Yah? Who are you kidding? You won't stay in here? You're scared?

- 27:27new Plymouth. Hello, Chief Ryan again, dug up some more foy on
- 27:32the new Plymouth safety flow ride. Oh sure, that's the big news.
- 27:37Like I said, smooths out bumps and dips just as if they weren't there.
- 27:40Oh brother, you never saw anything like that before on any car at
- 27:44any price. But get this. Plymouth has a new look too, sleek
- 27:48flowing line. I'm sorry I can't get the whole catch on the other important
- 27:51new features, but honest, Chief, they've got that New Plymouth wrapped up
- 27:55tighter than a mummy, keeping it strictly sewed up until Saturday. But I
- 27:59can't tell you this much. The New Plymouth is a real beauty inside and
- 28:03out. What's that? Chief? Ah Nah? Now you can't not tell.
- 28:08Saturday that's the big day. Then everybody and his brother gets a chance

- 29:42his Plymouth show room to see the most exciting Plymouth ever built. Saturday's the
- 29:48day Plymouth's the car Damn Coverley speaking, this is CBS. The Stars addressed
- 29:56the Columbia Broadcasting System. Welcome back. Well. I have to say this
- 30:22episode draws to my mind. You know, once again another Dragnet comparison to
- 30:29the Dragnet episode the Human Bomb. This one kind of escalated the danger and
- 30:34risk with a time bomb that was going off, as opposed to the Dragnet
- 30:40story which had somebody controlling a bomb in their hand. I have to wonder
- 30:45about the risk they took here because it seems like Gussrie and Grabs risk their
- 30:52lives on the basis of he couldn't really be that crazy. Opening that the
- 31:00who planted the momb wasn't nutty too enough to be willing to go off with
- 31:04it, though I suppose it's possible they could have gone ahead and made a
- 31:08quick exit if they found out, Yes, in need, he is that
- 31:12crazy. Thankfully for them, he wasn't also good to see a corporate sponsorship
- 31:18and an interesting, albeit slightly cheesy, attempt to make the ads for the
- 31:23new Chevrolet fit into the theme of the show. All right, well,
- 31:27we turn out a listener comment and feedback, and we start off with Lisa,
- 31:36who comments, I'm hi, Adam. I'm currently working through Johnny Doller
- 31:41and finished up Candy Matson a while ago. I really enjoy your comments and
- 31:45now when I listen to other podcasts that don't have comments, I miss keep
- 31:49up the good work. Thank you, Lisa, and we'll and Lisa,
- 31:56as I mentioned at the start of the show, is one of those who
- 31:59contributed the show. Sandra also was and she says thanks for all the podcast
- 32:04and observations you have on on OTR. Well, thank you so much for
- 32:08your comments and your support. Now we move on to some other listener comments.
- 32:13Mark comments. In the Jersey Parallel episode, they had the psycho killer
- 32:19cornered at the boarding house. While the policeman was talking to the landlady,
- 32:22you could hear the whistler playing in on the radio in the background. Is
- 32:25the whistler possibility of a future Great Detectives time slot? The theme whistle is
- 32:30an eerie, haunting theme piece. Awesome sauce from Sparky in Specific Beach,
- 32:38California. Well, I'll tell you the problem with the whistler. First of
- 32:45all, I think there's a great artistic value to the whistler. Two big
- 32:51problems with the whistler not really a detective show. Second part is well,
- 32:57I like it in small doses. I can kind I can kind of get
- 33:02to a point where I don't like walking around following a killer's point of view
- 33:08forever. You deal with some very disturbing heads, you know, getting inside
- 33:15those heads when you listen to the whistler. Yeah, comments he has.
- 33:20You could offer a video cam of you airing a show for deluxe membership.
- 33:23It would take a significant contribution to get me to consider putting up a webcam
- 33:34early. I'm just a little bit self conscious in my area is a little
- 33:37crowded, cluttered, and not certain I would want it featured on a video.
- 33:43Actually, I'm pretty certain I wouldn't. Keeping the audio only from my
- 33:46perspective manages to keep your existence or farience with the program clutter three. Well,
- 33:54thanks for the suggestion. We have a comment from Kathleen on Facebook Rights
- 34:00regarding the last episode of A Life in Your Hand. I quite enjoyed these
- 34:06episodes in all the ways. He managed to say, Amigas CURII in what
- 34:09it was. That's very true, Kathleen, And for those members of our
- 34:14audience who didn't listen to A Life in Your Hands. And Amigas Curia is
- 34:19a friend of the court, representing neither prosecution nor defended, but acting in
- 34:23the interests of justice, and Jonathan Kaye would use his powers of cross examination
- 34:30to get at the truth. And thus that's an example of how they did
- 34:35it on A Life in Your Hands. Two more comments from Facebook. Luis
- 34:38right, it's a love great detectives of old time radio. We never turned
- 34:43on the TV anymore. Thanks Adam and Emilio. Comments from down there in
- 34:49Boise, Idaho, USA to the world. You have an old time radio
- 34:54fan here in the city port of Las Seba. I hope I'm pronouncing that
- 35:00right. Republic of Honduras. Keep the good old times rocking on iTunes.
- 35:06Love every podcast, specially Johnny Doller. Well, then he'll definitely be liking
- 35:12what we have coming up in just a week or so, when after next
- 35:17week we'll be looking at three days of Johnny Dollers, So be looking forward
- 35:24to that, all right, Well, that we'll do it for today.
- 35:30We will be back tomorrow. Is a special to celebrate nine hundred episodes.
- 35:36It is a very unique show, not something we typically do, as we
- 35:39mix two another great genre with the detective genre, and we'll see what we
- 35:45get. Join us tomorrow for episode nine O two s and then be back
- 35:51here next Saturday for another episode of the lineup. In the meantimes, Andrew
- 35:57comments to box thirteen A right Detectives not net, follow us on Twitter Radio
- 36:01Detectives, and I'll be sure and fill out our listeners survey surveyed dot great
- 36:06Detectives dot net. But from Boise, Idaho, this is your host,
