- 0:04If you were around my age today,
- 0:07we lost a legend.
- 0:09We're gonna talk about it next.
- 0:21I love the chase and the hunt and
- 0:22I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:24I always take what I want and I
- 0:26always give it one hundred.
- 0:27Don't need a bank, no I'm funded.
- 0:29Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:30I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:31Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:33Now wake up!
- 0:34It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:37Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:39friend to me.
- 0:40It's not working out,
- 0:41maybe it's the chemistry.
- 0:42It's time to break up so I can
- 0:44make a better me.
- 0:49It's lunch time.
- 0:50Yay!
- 0:52what is going on everybody welcome to
- 0:53lunch with the clydesdale looks like i'm
- 0:56going solo today you guys think we have
- 0:58a plan we never have a plan i
- 1:01don't know if i'm gonna have cowboy with
- 1:06me or not until i open up the
- 1:08app
- 1:09when I come down, um,
- 1:12to do this show.
- 1:14So apparently he got busy today.
- 1:18I understand it's the middle of the work
- 1:19day.
- 1:19He's an hour behind me.
- 1:21So, eleven,
- 1:22fifteen is a little early for lunch.
- 1:24Um, but yeah, we'll see.
- 1:26Maybe he'll pop in at some point.
- 1:28But if you did not see the breaking
- 1:31news, the breaking news,
- 1:36if you are my age,
- 1:39this man was a legend.
- 1:42Chuck Norris passed away today.
- 1:44Um, such shame.
- 1:48Um,
- 1:49I thought that Chuck Norris was
- 1:52indestructible and, uh,
- 1:55the legend was that he didn't age.
- 1:58He just leveled up.
- 2:00Um, when he did a,
- 2:02he didn't do pushups.
- 2:03He pushed the earth down, you know,
- 2:06all the stuff.
- 2:07And, uh,
- 2:09There was a stretch in the eighties where
- 2:11he did missing in action and Delta force
- 2:15where those movies were iconic, iconic.
- 2:20And if you watch the expendable franchise,
- 2:24the second,
- 2:26or whatever the second movie in the
- 2:28sequel, uh,
- 2:31Chuck Norris was the punchline of that
- 2:33movie.
- 2:34It was an amazing storyline to get to
- 2:37the punchline.
- 2:38Um, and that is, uh,
- 2:42I think that says it all.
- 2:43If you've
- 2:48if you've not, there's a bunch,
- 2:49there's a bunch of like legends of action
- 2:51movies pinned down.
- 2:54There's people everywhere.
- 2:55And all of a sudden you hear like,
- 2:56uh, and everybody's,
- 3:00the shooting has stopped and they look out
- 3:02and it was Chuck Norris took out the
- 3:04whole crew.
- 3:06Um, so yeah.
- 3:09Uh,
- 3:12Total legend that I'm not even your age.
- 3:15Dad brought me up in all the movies.
- 3:19Really felt like he would last forever.
- 3:21I think Omar says it best.
- 3:23It's not jazzy that we lost him.
- 3:27He still is.
- 3:28He chose to leave as he already defeated
- 3:30the bad guys here on Earth.
- 3:32He is now the new leader of the
- 3:33Guardians of the Galaxy.
- 3:35There you go, Mike DeVito.
- 3:38Uh, you're never alone.
- 3:39You have all of us here.
- 3:40Chuck Norris didn't die.
- 3:41He went to heaven to give God a
- 3:43vacation.
- 3:46All right.
- 3:46Yes, that is good.
- 3:49Um, his cameo in dodgeball.
- 3:52So good.
- 3:53So good.
- 3:54Yeah.
- 3:57Um, so much fun, you know, he, uh,
- 4:00he was in the air force.
- 4:01He learned martial arts.
- 4:02His break into the movies was a Bruce
- 4:05Lee movie, um,
- 4:07giving him instant legitimacy in the
- 4:09martial arts action movie field.
- 4:12And, uh, yeah.
- 4:15Sad day.
- 4:15Sad day for people of my generation.
- 4:21And then he was on TV forever.
- 4:23Walker, Texas Ranger.
- 4:26Never a fan of that show,
- 4:27but like people around me were and would
- 4:30never miss an episode.
- 4:31So he'll be deeply missed.
- 4:35And hopefully he's up there giving God a
- 4:37break.
- 4:40With that,
- 4:42I have an interesting topic today.
- 4:46So a friend of mine sent me something
- 4:48last night.
- 4:52And I'm not going to say who unless
- 4:54they want to be recognized for that.
- 4:56And then I would give them all the
- 4:58love and the flowers in the world because
- 5:01what they sent me was pretty amazing.
- 5:02It was a writing that they had done
- 5:07about the open.
- 5:10And I want to pose this question to
- 5:13us all.
- 5:16Do we as the CrossFit community at large
- 5:22and all of the media representation that
- 5:24is out there,
- 5:29have we so much forgot about our own
- 5:31perspective of starting the open that we
- 5:36are taking away that joy
- 5:39from new people coming into the space and
- 5:43getting to do the open for maybe the
- 5:45first or second time?
- 5:48Are we so critical of what it has
- 5:50become that we have taken away that joy
- 5:58from new people coming into the CrossFit
- 6:01space?
- 6:04And if we lost our own perspective on
- 6:07the beauty of the CrossFit open,
- 6:16So someone sent me this writing that they
- 6:18had done through frustrations they had.
- 6:23And the way to get out their frustrations,
- 6:25they basically wrote a beautiful essay
- 6:29about what it's like to be a newbie
- 6:34in the space today and hearing all of
- 6:36the criticism of the open space.
- 6:43And I think back to like the first
- 6:45times I did the open,
- 6:50how much I loved it.
- 6:53And it wasn't like I never said to
- 6:55myself, is this a well-rounded test?
- 7:00Is this the right thing to get somebody
- 7:08to the games?
- 7:10What I said was,
- 7:13I'm going to do some hard shit today.
- 7:17And because I go to a CrossFit gym,
- 7:20I do hard shit every day.
- 7:23But this is another level of hard shit
- 7:27that forces me outside of my comfort zone.
- 7:31And at the end of the day,
- 7:32I do it with my CrossFit family.
- 7:36And we had fun and we,
- 7:39we joked about it.
- 7:42And the only complaints that were coming
- 7:45were, wow, that was hard.
- 7:48Wow.
- 7:48That kicked my ass.
- 7:53And I think we get so,
- 7:58we get so wrapped up in
- 8:03in how it's not what it used to
- 8:05be or how it's not finding the fittest
- 8:09or name half a million other things that
- 8:16both the media and the community complain
- 8:18about when the open workouts come out.
- 8:21You know, the time domains weren't,
- 8:24were all the same this year or we
- 8:27didn't test this.
- 8:28We didn't test strength or we didn't do
- 8:31this.
- 8:33And maybe it's back to what I'm saying
- 8:36where the open is trying to be two
- 8:39things and it really just can't be
- 8:43anymore, especially at three weeks.
- 8:46It's supposed to be this large online
- 8:48community event where everybody comes
- 8:51together and does something hard and feels
- 8:58like they've accomplished something at the
- 8:59end of the day.
- 9:02But on the other hand,
- 9:03it's the first stage to get people to
- 9:06the CrossFit Games.
- 9:09And so a lot of the criticism I
- 9:11think is on this first stage of the
- 9:13CrossFit Games piece.
- 9:17And we're forgetting about what attracted
- 9:19us as newbies in the CrossFit space to
- 9:21doing the open, to doing hard things,
- 9:25and laying it all out on the floor
- 9:28with our best friends in the world.
- 9:42Are newbies even paying attention to the
- 9:43tiny circle that is the CrossFit media?
- 9:46Sean,
- 9:47I would say that I don't think they're
- 9:48necessarily paying attention to the media.
- 9:51I think there's a handful that are.
- 9:54But I do think that because of the
- 9:58media,
- 9:59more people are complaining about it in
- 10:01the gyms.
- 10:05There's a trickle-down effect to the media
- 10:07getting to the newbies that may be
- 10:11affecting the joy that they have.
- 10:17Vicky says, I know some who do,
- 10:19and even a couple years in,
- 10:20I'd still consider that new.
- 10:27Daniel Arnson, for me,
- 10:29thank you so much for the super chat.
- 10:31Always appreciated.
- 10:35For me,
- 10:35the joy of the five-week open cannot be
- 10:37matched.
- 10:38Still amazing.
- 10:39Every time someone does the open for the
- 10:41first time now, I say to myself, man,
- 10:45if only they knew how much better it
- 10:47used to be.
- 10:49So I want to speak to that too,
- 10:50because...
- 10:52I think it can still be great as
- 10:54a three-week open.
- 10:56As someone who was very vested as a
- 10:59coach in a CrossFit gym,
- 11:01the five-week open took its toll on the
- 11:04owners of the affiliate,
- 11:05on the coaches of the affiliate,
- 11:07everybody who volunteered their time to be
- 11:09judges.
- 11:12It got to be a lot.
- 11:15And maybe my life grew to be that
- 11:17much as it went.
- 11:19I still think you can find magic in
- 11:21three weeks,
- 11:23but it's not going to be the same
- 11:25type of test.
- 11:27You can't add in as much people,
- 11:30as many people, or I'm sorry,
- 11:32you can't add in as many tests and
- 11:34movements to a three week open as you
- 11:37can to a five.
- 11:45Uh, Vicky says, shoot,
- 11:48they had the CrossFit podcast had Seth on
- 11:51and they kind of talked about it.
- 11:52I did see that.
- 11:54I did.
- 11:55I saw a clip.
- 11:55I should say I did not see the
- 11:56full podcast.
- 11:58I probably should go back and look at
- 12:00that.
- 12:01Um, but I did not see,
- 12:03I did see a clip of that.
- 12:08Mike, I love the open.
- 12:09This was my fourth open and I still
- 12:11get it.
- 12:13But there was always complainer since I
- 12:15started.
- 12:16Maybe the hate has grown, I guess.
- 12:19What's up, cowboy?
- 12:21What's up, y'all?
- 12:23You're not at work.
- 12:25No, I'm working from home today.
- 12:27My wife is on a retreat with church,
- 12:31and I had to get Jameson on the
- 12:33bus.
- 12:33I got to get her off,
- 12:34so I'm working from home today.
- 12:35I was literally wrapping up some stuff
- 12:37right about when we started,
- 12:39so I figured I'd hop on a little
- 12:40bit.
- 12:40How's my sound?
- 12:41Terrible?
- 12:42No, it's good.
- 12:43That's awesome.
- 12:46Daniel says, how amazing it is, however,
- 12:48I believe,
- 12:49just as much on the affiliate owners and
- 12:50coaches to push and get people excited
- 12:53about it.
- 12:55I agree.
- 12:55I agree.
- 12:56We, we made a huge deal of it.
- 12:58I am my old affiliate and, um,
- 13:01and the participation there was in one
- 13:04fifty to two hundred athletes every year.
- 13:09This year we made a big deal out
- 13:10of it with doing the intramural open and
- 13:14whatnot and it worked.
- 13:17I mean, plain and simple.
- 13:18If you, if you were an affiliate,
- 13:22you want it to be a big deal
- 13:23you have to make it a big deal
- 13:25i know how it sounds so simplistic but
- 13:27like people are going to get excited for
- 13:29it if you don't give them a reason
- 13:31to be excited for it i don't know
- 13:35i've told this fifteen different times in
- 13:37fifteen different ways but like we just
- 13:39put everybody on a team whether you want
- 13:41it to be or not doesn't matter doesn't
- 13:42matter if you signed up for the open
- 13:43or not you could still get points for
- 13:45your team
- 13:47even if you weren't signed up for the
- 13:48open,
- 13:49by coming to Friday Night Lights and doing
- 13:51the workout during Friday Night Lights
- 13:54just to get people excited and get people
- 13:56at the gym and be in their Friday
- 13:58Night Lights.
- 13:59And, I mean,
- 13:59everybody had an absolute blast.
- 14:01My team especially because we won.
- 14:04But, you know.
- 14:06Well,
- 14:06I don't know if you heard the original
- 14:08part of this.
- 14:10I don't know if you were listening before
- 14:11you came on.
- 14:12But someone had sent me an essay that
- 14:14they wrote about –
- 14:18I have the same essay.
- 14:21Right.
- 14:21I'm not identifying that person.
- 14:23They don't want to be identified.
- 14:28About do we complain about it?
- 14:31And have we stripped?
- 14:33My question is,
- 14:34have we stripped the joy from newbies by
- 14:37complaining about it so much?
- 14:39When I started in twenty thirteen.
- 14:43There was no CrossFit media other than
- 14:45CrossFit itself and Arm and Hand.
- 14:49And maybe barbell shrugged, but nobody,
- 14:51there wasn't such an in-depth look at the
- 14:54open back then.
- 14:56And so to us,
- 14:57it was just this really,
- 14:59really cool thing we did once a year.
- 15:01We didn't care if it was well-rounded.
- 15:03We didn't care if it was just hard
- 15:05stuff that we signed up for and did
- 15:07every year with our friends.
- 15:08Absolutely.
- 15:11And are we stripping that experience away
- 15:13from newbies by being overcritical of it?
- 15:19Absolutely.
- 15:20Absolutely.
- 15:22It's the people that are in your gym
- 15:24like, well,
- 15:25I'm going to make it into the game,
- 15:26so why should I even do it type
- 15:28deal.
- 15:29Do it to prove something to yourself.
- 15:33Who gives a shit what the test is?
- 15:34The test is going to be the test.
- 15:37You don't show up every day and be
- 15:38like, oh, this workout is dumb,
- 15:40or you might, whatever,
- 15:41but you're still going to do it no
- 15:42matter what it is.
- 15:44Right.
- 15:45Like if you're in a good affiliate,
- 15:47if you're in one that just, you know,
- 15:48allows you to just kind of cherry pick
- 15:50and slide on through and not really do
- 15:51whatever it is you want,
- 15:52you're actually doing,
- 15:53then that's one thing.
- 15:55But the test is the test.
- 15:57If you sign up for a comp,
- 15:58you sign up for a five K is
- 15:59five K. That's what the test is.
- 16:01You signed up for.
- 16:02This is the only,
- 16:03the only difference is that this is going
- 16:04to be unknown until the week of.
- 16:06So what's the point?
- 16:08Like,
- 16:08what's the point in complaining about it?
- 16:10Show up, do it,
- 16:12get on with your life.
- 16:14I think the over-analyzation is a big,
- 16:19I get it.
- 16:19People want to have stuff to talk about
- 16:21and I understand about wanting to,
- 16:22but like saying, Oh,
- 16:23this is a huge miss or this is
- 16:25a huge dad or this is a huge
- 16:26set.
- 16:28Encourage your people to get fitter.
- 16:31I think it's a lot about perspective too,
- 16:33because I think if you looked at the,
- 16:37it is a well-rounded test and,
- 16:39and Dave kind of spoke to this about,
- 16:41he thinks that the opening quarterfinal
- 16:43should be one big score, right?
- 16:45Right.
- 16:46We talked about that earlier, right?
- 16:49If you look at quarterfinals as the fifth
- 16:51week of the open and the test just
- 16:54changes because now you have to do
- 16:56multiple workouts in the same weekend,
- 16:58right?
- 16:59to test not only each individual test,
- 17:03but your stamina of doing multiple events
- 17:06in a weekend, right?
- 17:08If you looked at that as the fifth
- 17:09week open and week four was your buy,
- 17:11right?
- 17:13One, two,
- 17:13three are the first three weeks of the
- 17:15open.
- 17:15You have a buy week four and week
- 17:17five is the fifth week of the open.
- 17:22And I do think that you...
- 17:23there is a relevance to cutting the field
- 17:27from a hundred percent to twenty five
- 17:30percent because affiliates to set up for
- 17:34what you have to set up for in
- 17:35quarterfinals is way different than it is.
- 17:40And affiliates could not handle a hundred
- 17:43percent of the population doing
- 17:45quarterfinals for events one weekend.
- 17:48I'm going to say right now, if it
- 17:53depending on what your gym actually looks
- 17:54like, like our ropes don't go to.
- 17:55Like you touch,
- 17:59you touch feet on our rope at the,
- 18:00at the gym,
- 18:01you have to actually reach up and touch
- 18:02the ceiling in the gym.
- 18:05Like you gotta get,
- 18:05and that means you gotta reach around a
- 18:07beam all the way up and touch the
- 18:08ceiling.
- 18:09So like for us,
- 18:11if we have rope climbs,
- 18:13I have to go somewhere else.
- 18:15That's all there is to it because I
- 18:17can't, can't make it work.
- 18:18And I feel like it's a lot like
- 18:20that for a whole lot of affiliates.
- 18:21So.
- 18:22It's that type of deal.
- 18:24So Jay Birch,
- 18:24that's how I view quarterfinals right now.
- 18:27I view it as part of a five-week
- 18:28open with cuts,
- 18:30but it has to go to,
- 18:33there's a reason why it jumps from one
- 18:35event a week to four events in a
- 18:37weekend.
- 18:38That has to be tested before semifinals.
- 18:43Volume has to be tested.
- 18:44Volume, strength, things like that.
- 18:47Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 18:52Otherwise,
- 18:52you get people at semifinals that have
- 18:53absolutely no business being there.
- 18:56You get the KL Amans of the world.
- 19:00Vicky says,
- 19:01exactly just like cuts of the games.
- 19:09Mike DeVito.
- 19:11Daniel, without quarterfinals,
- 19:13what the heck am I supposed to do
- 19:14after the Open?
- 19:15I'm not semifinals material.
- 19:18Let us have a moment.
- 19:21The Community Cup is fast approaching.
- 19:22They're going to do it again this year.
- 19:23Right.
- 19:24But let's be honest.
- 19:26Like,
- 19:26the quarterfinals gave more incentive to
- 19:28athletes than the Community Cup did last
- 19:30year.
- 19:31And that's the reason they brought it
- 19:33back.
- 19:33I would,
- 19:34I would one hundred percent agree with
- 19:35that.
- 19:35I do think twenty five percent is a
- 19:38wide net to cast.
- 19:42And there's nothing wrong with making
- 19:44money.
- 19:44And that's a way for them to make
- 19:46money.
- 19:46Mm hmm.
- 19:49I just think if you're making another step
- 19:53towards qualifying for the games,
- 19:55for some, for others,
- 19:56it's just going to be cut it down
- 19:58to fifteen percent.
- 19:59It doesn't need to be top ten.
- 20:01I think that's a little.
- 20:02But like somewhere in between,
- 20:04there's going from top ten percent to top
- 20:06twenty five percent is a huge jump.
- 20:09Right.
- 20:10Let's be honest.
- 20:11It says top twenty five percent.
- 20:14Half of those half of those people do
- 20:15not sign up.
- 20:17true right it's fifty bucks it's fifty
- 20:21bucks from from from twenty five which is
- 20:23another determining factor of who actually
- 20:25is going to show up or not because
- 20:26a lot of people are not going to
- 20:27pay that just to do five more workouts
- 20:28for no good reason uh it's one hundred
- 20:32percent of money grab i'm going to sign
- 20:33up most likely but let's be honest about
- 20:36what it is but there's nothing wrong with
- 20:39making money no i that that yeah i
- 20:42don't i don't
- 20:43I understand the thought, but to say, oh,
- 20:47it's a money grab.
- 20:47Yeah, of course it is.
- 20:48Everything is.
- 20:49It's business.
- 20:51It's business.
- 20:52When McDonald's started making value
- 20:55meals,
- 20:56that's a money grab to get you in
- 20:58there and go, oh,
- 20:58I can get a quarter pounder and a
- 21:01set of fries and a Coke for three
- 21:04dollars and twenty six cents.
- 21:05I am there.
- 21:06Everything's a money grab.
- 21:09They're trying to make money.
- 21:12You want them to make money.
- 21:14You want CrossFit HQ to make money.
- 21:18The more money they make,
- 21:19the better kind of quality stuff they're
- 21:21going to have.
- 21:23It's a thriving ecosystem.
- 21:25You don't want HQ to be broke, dog.
- 21:26Believe what I'm telling you.
- 21:28Why not increase open fee?
- 21:29I'd pay forty or fifty for the open.
- 21:31Here's why, Joseph.
- 21:33The only way to track CrossFit success
- 21:36today,
- 21:37because none of us know how many
- 21:39affiliates are truly active and alive in
- 21:41this world, is open registration.
- 21:46You keep the price at twenty dollars so
- 21:49that that as long as no tragic event
- 21:52occurs,
- 21:54that number can keep climbing year over
- 21:56year because it's only twenty bucks.
- 21:59People spend twenty bucks on dumb shit on
- 22:01a regular basis.
- 22:04And that is right now currently the only
- 22:06way to show growth in the CrossFit space.
- 22:13Hundred percent.
- 22:14And it's comparable price.
- 22:18If I haven't,
- 22:19it's been a while since I signed up
- 22:20for a five K,
- 22:20but it's like twenty five to thirty bucks.
- 22:23It's been a while since I signed up
- 22:24for a ten K,
- 22:25but it's twenty five to thirty bucks,
- 22:27maybe forty five bucks,
- 22:28depending on which one, which one it is.
- 22:30So it's any kind of fitness type event.
- 22:33That's a standard price.
- 22:35Quarterfinals is the next level of that.
- 22:38It's going to be a little bit more
- 22:39involved.
- 22:40There's going to be all things, all, all,
- 22:42you know,
- 22:43all five things that released at once when
- 22:45we can do it.
- 22:45So it's going to cost a little bit
- 22:46more because they can and they should.
- 22:53The way it's set up now is twenty
- 22:54bucks to get you in.
- 22:55So we have the good numbers.
- 22:58If you're serious about this and you want
- 23:00the next part of the test,
- 23:03we're going to charge a fitty.
- 23:04Yeah.
- 23:06Right.
- 23:07That actually makes business sense.
- 23:11For you addicts and animals out there,
- 23:16we're going to charge you fitty.
- 23:20Sure.
- 23:20Right.
- 23:24The problem is CrossFit keeps all this
- 23:26stuff so close to the vest.
- 23:29They never tell us that.
- 23:31They just think we can assume and
- 23:33understand it, and then nobody does.
- 23:35And then you attach words like money grab
- 23:38and they're not transparent and blah,
- 23:42blah, blah, right?
- 23:44I don't think they care, Scott,
- 23:45to be quite honest with you.
- 23:47I think they look at it and they
- 23:48go –
- 23:49Let's go.
- 23:50How much should we charge this?
- 23:51Fifty bucks.
- 23:52All right, cool.
- 23:53Hey,
- 23:53people are going to complain about it.
- 23:55People are going to complain about it no
- 23:56matter what.
- 23:56It could be free and people will complain
- 23:58about it.
- 23:59Which goes to our original point.
- 24:01We're going to find ways to complain about
- 24:02everything.
- 24:04But is all of that complaining, in fact,
- 24:08stunting our growth because newbies come
- 24:11into it and go, man,
- 24:13all they do is bitch around here.
- 24:14Yeah.
- 24:17right?
- 24:18Yeah.
- 24:18Is this all y'all do is bitch all
- 24:20day long?
- 24:20Yes, mostly.
- 24:25We bitch about the workouts.
- 24:26We bitch about not doing the workouts.
- 24:28We bitch about the workouts that we like.
- 24:30We bitch about the workouts that we don't
- 24:31like.
- 24:32It doesn't matter.
- 24:33People are going to find a reason to
- 24:36complain.
- 24:38Every single workout could have been
- 24:39something in my wheelhouse that I would
- 24:41have absolutely smashed and been top
- 24:43half a percent in my age group.
- 24:45And I still would have found something to
- 24:46complain about.
- 24:47I'm sure I would have.
- 24:49There's no question in my mind.
- 24:50I'm not a complainer.
- 24:51I'm usually the one like, well,
- 24:52this is what the test is.
- 24:53This is what we're doing moving right
- 24:54along.
- 24:58So Siobhan says, Daniel, Daniel,
- 25:00I had no business doing the opening.
- 25:03That is so counter to the CrossFit
- 25:05methodology.
- 25:07Everything is infinitely scalable.
- 25:11Oh, believe me.
- 25:11Do the open,
- 25:12especially now that it's not just RX.
- 25:14Yeah.
- 25:15When I first started the open,
- 25:17it was RX or nothing.
- 25:21Believe me.
- 25:22Savant took the infinitely scalable stuff
- 25:24to heart.
- 25:25Did you see his a twenty six point
- 25:27three video in bare feet?
- 25:28Listen,
- 25:29I can't I can't say a word because
- 25:31medically I just couldn't do it this year.
- 25:34So.
- 25:36I got I got nothing.
- 25:38I watched it and I
- 25:41At one point he goes,
- 25:43I think I just did ten instead of
- 25:44twelve and just kept on going,
- 25:46kept on trucking and did extra reps on
- 25:48the next round to make up for the
- 25:51ten that he did on the one before
- 25:53that.
- 25:53It was fantastic.
- 25:54It was fun to watch.
- 25:56All he has to do is turn to
- 25:57the camera and go,
- 25:58are you not entertained?
- 26:00A hundred percent.
- 26:03A hundred percent.
- 26:03Look at this small Armenian man.
- 26:08And then he has every bit of the
- 26:09business to do the open.
- 26:11yeah and and uh jenny's right he savannah
- 26:14moves better than ninety percent of people
- 26:16doing open that is a hundred percent
- 26:18correct he does man you ain't going to
- 26:21worry about step on not going to extension
- 26:23not going not hitting depth none of that
- 26:25stuff the dude moves like he's supposed to
- 26:27he he is mobile man it's it's fun
- 26:31to watch
- 26:34My first open at thirty ring muscle ups
- 26:36in it.
- 26:36No scaling.
- 26:37And it was my first month.
- 26:38And you just had to keep trying until
- 26:41time cap.
- 26:42Yeah.
- 26:43It was a twenty twenty point five.
- 26:47It had the wall balls rolling in ring
- 26:51muscle ups.
- 26:51Break it up however you want.
- 26:53I flew through the wall balls and roll.
- 26:57And then I spent the next however many
- 26:59minutes I had just trying to get over
- 27:01the rings in ring muscle up.
- 27:03It is what it is.
- 27:05The test is the test.
- 27:06Kind of like the standard is the standard.
- 27:08Hey, this is what we put out.
- 27:10You don't like it?
- 27:11Cool.
- 27:11You don't have to do it.
- 27:12I think people are missing that point.
- 27:17Right.
- 27:17Or you can do a scaled version of
- 27:19it.
- 27:19Suck your pride up.
- 27:21Right.
- 27:21Get it out at the front door.
- 27:23Don't click the Rx box.
- 27:24Yeah.
- 27:26Come inside, do a scaled version of it,
- 27:29and call it good.
- 27:31And work on it.
- 27:32So where next year when it comes up,
- 27:33or it doesn't,
- 27:35You'll have a whole year that you have
- 27:37worked on it and try to get better
- 27:38at that one thing.
- 27:41Every,
- 27:42everybody has business doing the open and
- 27:44there are plenty of options for everybody.
- 27:46Absolutely.
- 27:48But that is where ego gets in the
- 27:49way.
- 27:49And I think ego is the biggest deterrent
- 27:53for CrossFit.
- 27:55People walk in the door and they want
- 27:56to do it as it's written on a
- 27:59board instead of saying, you know what,
- 28:02I'm just not there yet and I need
- 28:04to work my way to that.
- 28:06So how do I make it so I
- 28:08can get stronger and better at these
- 28:10movements to eventually be able to do
- 28:12what's on the board?
- 28:15The whole check your ego at the door
- 28:17thing is lost on a lot of people
- 28:19because like you said,
- 28:20they want it and they don't just want
- 28:21it.
- 28:21They want it right now.
- 28:24Right now.
- 28:26Hey, can you?
- 28:28I mean, yeah.
- 28:29I mean, I clean one thirty five.
- 28:30Yeah, but can you do it fifteen times?
- 28:33In a row?
- 28:35Well, well, if you can't,
- 28:36then you have no business or excellence.
- 28:38You just don't understand that you can
- 28:40understand it's the open and it's going to
- 28:43pump your ego up over the moon to
- 28:45be able to click that little RX button.
- 28:48But maybe let's go ahead and meet you.
- 28:52Meet yourself where you're at.
- 28:55Suck it up a little bit and then
- 28:56do what you can with what you have.
- 29:02Lana Foundations has options for everyone.
- 29:07Lana is over over seventy.
- 29:11I think I'm safe to say that.
- 29:12I think she's made that publicly known.
- 29:15And that woman works out all the time.
- 29:18And she does it for her.
- 29:19She's fit.
- 29:28Every year I see people trying to do
- 29:29movements that they didn't spend any time
- 29:31working on.
- 29:32Like it's just going to happen.
- 29:34Then they bitch that it's in the open.
- 29:38Preach, Travis.
- 29:39Preach.
- 29:43Put it out there.
- 29:44She's seventy seven.
- 29:48And FYI, when you meet her,
- 29:50that is not your first thought.
- 29:51And holy smokes,
- 29:52this woman is seventy seven.
- 29:53There's no possible way.
- 29:55No way.
- 29:57No.
- 30:01Um, so yeah, so that's that,
- 30:04that was interesting conversation.
- 30:06Um, I wanted to talk, I had,
- 30:09I just had this thought, you know,
- 30:13Xenon has come into this space and they're
- 30:16getting a ton of publicity and they're
- 30:18getting a lot of people excited about it.
- 30:21And I think it comes down to with
- 30:23saying, let's partner with CrossFit.
- 30:27Let's bring on, um,
- 30:31wilson pock to help us run the first
- 30:33event is he really that's what they said
- 30:37on spin i have to go back and
- 30:38watch it but i heard that this morning
- 30:40on the wad print wide prep podcast that's
- 30:44going to run really well then right other
- 30:49entities that have come into the space
- 30:51like wfp high rocks
- 30:56have created a gap,
- 30:58a gorge between CrossFitters and their
- 31:02event.
- 31:05Xenom has done this and has done it
- 31:07so beautifully in the,
- 31:12has done this so beautifully that they
- 31:15have created so much excitement out of the
- 31:18base.
- 31:23I think it's amazing.
- 31:26There's everything that WFP didn't.
- 31:30So, and I know we said this before,
- 31:32but when you react and you're acting on,
- 31:36you know,
- 31:38it's an emotional reaction to something
- 31:40that happened and trying to capitalize on
- 31:41something, an emotional event,
- 31:44and that's all you have going for you
- 31:46because you refuse to do it any other
- 31:48way,
- 31:49as opposed to taking a clear methodical
- 31:51approach and going,
- 31:52what's the best path forward?
- 31:53Well, maybe we should,
- 31:55merge or align ourselves with the people
- 31:58who are actually the innovators in the
- 32:01space and kind of go with them that's
- 32:04that's the difference that is the
- 32:07difference uh yeah jenny i would probably
- 32:09i'd probably say so but jenny here's the
- 32:13other thing too you think wilson would
- 32:15have actually uh would have gone with him
- 32:18given his history no i don't think so
- 32:23either
- 32:25Not just given his history,
- 32:27given his history in knowing what WFU were
- 32:30actually trying to do.
- 32:33The one thing I know about Wilson Pac
- 32:35is he's a man of integrity.
- 32:39He would have had the whole plan given
- 32:42to him and understand it to sign on
- 32:45with that.
- 32:48Travis.
- 32:53Well, that's a problem.
- 32:55That's a problem, but I,
- 32:56I get Travis mentioned that last or
- 32:58earlier this week as well.
- 32:59He's trying to get in touch with him
- 33:01because he wants a vendor spot.
- 33:02Huh?
- 33:02All right.
- 33:10Maybe I need to text Wilson and see
- 33:11what's up.
- 33:12I'm about to say you Wilson lives.
- 33:14Ten minutes from you, man, a holler.
- 33:19Um,
- 33:29I don't know.
- 33:32That sucks that that's happening, though.
- 33:34But I'm wondering if they're just not
- 33:36prepared to even take vendor calls at this
- 33:38point.
- 33:40When's the first event supposed to be?
- 33:42I don't even know, dude.
- 33:43I don't either.
- 33:46I keep meaning to look into it,
- 33:49and every time I do, I get sidetracked.
- 33:51Well, I know...
- 33:54Carolyn said Travis Travis said this
- 33:58didn't know Wilson was involved.
- 34:00Stand by texting him right now.
- 34:01Yeah, that's what they did.
- 34:09There we go.
- 34:09June the twenty seventh to twenty eight.
- 34:12Yeah, just.
- 34:18It's it's ninety eight days away,
- 34:20but it doesn't give me the damn date.
- 34:23uh birch said june twenty seven twenty
- 34:25eight june twenty seventh and twenty
- 34:27eighth yep birch said just contact jerry
- 34:34world yeah they're not going to jerry
- 34:37world they're going to the star still
- 34:41owned by jerry jones
- 34:44So there it is.
- 34:46June, twenty seven to twenty eight.
- 34:47The star Frisco, Texas,
- 34:50two thousand athletes.
- 34:51The other thing about people saying,
- 34:53are you going to pay five hundred dollars
- 34:54for this in the world of supply and
- 34:57demand?
- 34:58You're there's only two thousand spots.
- 35:03So you can like you can ask for
- 35:06a little bit more money because the supply
- 35:10is probably less than the demand.
- 35:13As I say, you just created,
- 35:17I won't say a shortage,
- 35:17but you made it exclusive.
- 35:20Hey,
- 35:20we're only taking two thousand people.
- 35:23Period.
- 35:24End of story.
- 35:25Done.
- 35:26Well,
- 35:26and they've given out like what they call
- 35:31it,
- 35:31like a drawing where they gave out five
- 35:33hundred or two hundred fifty spots of
- 35:35that.
- 35:36So there's really only seventeen fifty
- 35:38left.
- 35:40And Carolyn, Carolyn got one of those.
- 35:44She's going to crush it, dude.
- 35:48So hopefully we'll get an inside look at
- 35:50what's going on down there.
- 35:53And from her,
- 35:55from an athlete's perspective.
- 36:01Yep.
- 36:02That's what happened with Carolyn.
- 36:06I missed that completely.
- 36:08I guess I need to get.
- 36:09Definitely need to up my social media game
- 36:11because I missed that completely because I
- 36:13would have thrown my hat in the ring
- 36:14to try to get a free spot for
- 36:15sure.
- 36:16Yeah, Jamie put her hat in the ring.
- 36:18She didn't win.
- 36:20But Carolyn did.
- 36:22Dallas is like a six,
- 36:26seven and a half hour drive from here.
- 36:28It's not terrible.
- 36:31so i'm i'm really anxious to see what
- 36:33it's like from the athlete perspective
- 36:35when they get there and i'm going to
- 36:38try to give carolyn a gopro um so
- 36:41that she can take some footage when she's
- 36:44not out on the field um and kind
- 36:48of report back to us so she could
- 36:50also wear it while she's on the field
- 36:52just throwing that out there as a for
- 36:53instance
- 36:55i don't think she would do that but
- 36:56okay i don't think she would either she'd
- 36:59be i feel like she'd be too self-conscious
- 37:01if you roll out roll out there with
- 37:02a gopro on but yeah tristan tried and
- 37:05get didn't get one either that's not that
- 37:08i mean relatively speaking that's not that
- 37:09far from tristan uh no at least in
- 37:13the same well you can say you're in
- 37:15the same state as texas but that doesn't
- 37:17help with distance no it could be a
- 37:20two-day drive in in texas it's it's
- 37:24ridiculous
- 37:26telling you you cross the state line
- 37:27louisiana getting into texas on i-ten and
- 37:30there's a sign says el paso eight hundred
- 37:32and fifty seven miles like i can't even
- 37:35fathom that i can't it doesn't compute in
- 37:38my head yeah then insanity um if crossfit
- 37:48had an hq performance complex where should
- 37:50it be located
- 37:55Where should it be located or wherever
- 37:57they can find the cheapest land in the
- 38:04nicest community in a relatively low tax
- 38:10area.
- 38:14So Texas somewhere is basically what that
- 38:17would look like somewhere in.
- 38:22Probably Northwest Texas.
- 38:26Travis Nashville.
- 38:32Well, let's be honest.
- 38:35Tennessee doesn't have state taxes.
- 38:38So these two are open.
- 38:40Yep.
- 38:41Florida.
- 38:42Florida doesn't have state tax.
- 38:44Texas doesn't have state tax, does it?
- 38:48um so those that eliminates fifteen
- 38:51percent of your taxes right there done
- 38:55deal montana yeah so it can be buried
- 39:01in any seventeen feet of snow in the
- 39:03wintertime ramirez no thank you yeah and
- 39:07it it is cost prohibitive to fly into
- 39:09montana trust me yeah no scott knows
- 39:14Just to go to see my kid this
- 39:16spring,
- 39:17like trying to find flights is insanity.
- 39:24Property taxes suck in Texas.
- 39:28Hell,
- 39:28Indiana's like offering everybody free
- 39:31everything to come.
- 39:32Like they did that with the Chicago bears.
- 39:34I say to Indiana bears.
- 39:36Yeah.
- 39:42Yeah, I think I, uh,
- 39:43I'm with you on that one there, Tristan.
- 39:46Gonna be honest.
- 39:47If there's an event in Montana,
- 39:48I'm going to the state,
- 39:48but not the event.
- 39:49Catch my ass out in the mountains.
- 39:51God, it's beautiful there.
- 39:53That is truly God's country.
- 39:57So, um, I think we'll, uh,
- 40:01we'll wrap it up with this.
- 40:06I w I did go to the cardiologist
- 40:08yesterday.
- 40:09Uh, they gave me two choices.
- 40:12Um, the one choice they told me to,
- 40:14uh,
- 40:15watch this video of how it would go
- 40:17down.
- 40:18Uh,
- 40:18so I was going to share it with
- 40:19you.
- 40:20Wait, what's that?
- 40:22Let's turn that up.
- 40:38More smoke.
- 40:53You only get one shot.
- 40:57One shot.
- 40:57That's a weird flex, but...
- 41:10If that's going to be your procedure,
- 41:13I'm going to be there when it happens.
- 41:15I'm going to come in and I'm going
- 41:15to be your support system.
- 41:16I'm going to hold it down for you
- 41:18right there in the building.
- 41:21Scoop is my anesthesiologist.
- 41:24Dre is my doctor.
- 41:28I see nothing wrong with that scenario.
- 41:32I don't know what kind of shot Eminem's
- 41:34given me,
- 41:34but
- 41:35They look neon green.
- 41:37I would be a little bit concerned about
- 41:38it's probably mom's spaghetti.
- 41:39Oh shit.
- 41:46Yeah.
- 41:46So in all seriousness, I was given to,
- 41:49uh, two different options.
- 41:51One is to take, uh,
- 41:56a new medication that has a fifty percent
- 41:59chance of working but it has side effects
- 42:02that i would have to be hospitalized for
- 42:04three days when i start taking it to
- 42:06make sure nothing went wrong or have the
- 42:10pat velner ablation procedure is that what
- 42:13they refer to it as the pat velner
- 42:15yeah that's what it's called now here are
- 42:18your options you begin to give you the
- 42:20pat velner
- 42:22Stop right there.
- 42:23Say no more.
- 42:24I'll take the Pat Velner.
- 42:29Uh, so yeah, I,
- 42:31I'm opting for the Pat V. Yeah.
- 42:34I would take the Pat V too.
- 42:36So that is just a,
- 42:37it is a procedure.
- 42:38It's a two hour long procedure,
- 42:40four hours of recovery.
- 42:41And I get to go home the same
- 42:42day.
- 42:44Um,
- 42:45And that is basically burning the
- 42:49electrical receptors in the one valve of
- 42:52my heart.
- 42:53So it stops telling the wrong message.
- 42:57I mean, I have a, a,
- 42:58a hot glue gun.
- 43:00We can just use the hot part of
- 43:02it.
- 43:02We could probably get that done.
- 43:03Like I, I get up there this weekend,
- 43:05honestly.
- 43:06So they're going through my groin.
- 43:09Whoa.
- 43:10To my heart.
- 43:13Hold up.
- 43:13Yeah.
- 43:18That does not seem like the most direct
- 43:19path to your heart, Scott.
- 43:21I understand there's some big veins in
- 43:23there.
- 43:23I get that.
- 43:24Like femoral artery type shit.
- 43:27But like, okay,
- 43:28we're going to do this heart procedure.
- 43:30Cool.
- 43:31Take off your pants.
- 43:32I'm sorry.
- 43:33Say what?
- 43:33I, you know, just for clarification,
- 43:38not the penis, but the groin.
- 43:40The groin.
- 43:41Is that what they're doing?
- 43:45They're going in through femoral and just
- 43:46going all the way up?
- 43:47Yep.
- 43:51With a laser and then pew, pew, pew,
- 43:53pew.
- 43:55Is it a shark with a laser on
- 43:57its head?
- 43:57I hope it's a shark with a freaking
- 44:01laser on its head.
- 44:07It's a great play to access,
- 44:09says our CrossFit MDL one.
- 44:14I got everybody,
- 44:15all the dudes in the chat are like,
- 44:16whoa, hold up.
- 44:17You said groin and heart.
- 44:19And Shannon's like, no, no, no.
- 44:20It's a great place to ask.
- 44:24Joseph says they may hit something on the
- 44:26way up.
- 44:26No, thank you.
- 44:27listen I am tired tired of dealing with
- 44:32this shit back and forth trying this and
- 44:34then it it works for through six months
- 44:37eight months nine months and then I'm back
- 44:40going through the same shit over and over
- 44:41again so I let's get it done let's
- 44:46This has a much higher success rate of
- 44:50working.
- 44:51And I'm home same day.
- 44:55I say that's the way we're going to
- 44:56go.
- 44:57I just got to let them know right
- 44:59after the show.
- 45:02Give them a call, text, email,
- 45:04smoke signal, carry a pigeon,
- 45:06like whatever you got to do.
- 45:08My wife has been in cardiology for twenty
- 45:10five plus years doing these procedures
- 45:12daily.
- 45:13They rarely hit anything on the way up.
- 45:14Very, very safe.
- 45:18I wasn't even worried about hitting
- 45:19anything on the way up.
- 45:21I was worried about once they got inside
- 45:23the heart.
- 45:24Right.
- 45:26And now you got that seat.
- 45:27Now I'm worried about hitting something on
- 45:29the way up.
- 45:30Wait a minute.
- 45:31I hadn't even thought about that.
- 45:35My head didn't even go to the trip.
- 45:38I was way more worried about once they
- 45:41got inside.
- 45:42My head was at the destination,
- 45:44not at the journey.
- 45:46That's fantastic.
- 45:47I do like the way he said they
- 45:48rarely hit anything on the way up.
- 45:51Let's not use the word rarely.
- 45:52How about they never hit anything on the
- 45:54way up?
- 45:54No, no, no.
- 45:55They never hit anything on the way up.
- 45:57Not rarely.
- 45:57Because rarely implies that every once in
- 45:59a while some shit gets sideways.
- 46:05Yes.
- 46:06Don't worry about that.
- 46:07I'm not really worried about it.
- 46:09The guy, my cardiologist,
- 46:10this is actually what his specialty is
- 46:13these types of procedures.
- 46:16And he is one of considered one of
- 46:18the best there is at this.
- 46:21And so I am not worried.
- 46:24I just, I was,
- 46:25I was making light of it because that's
- 46:28what you during stressful situations.
- 46:31A hundred percent.
- 46:31A hundred percent.
- 46:33Do not look over at me.
- 46:34If we're in a stressful situation,
- 46:36I'm going to laugh about it.
- 46:37I can tell you that right now.
- 46:40Corey tells the doc, the groin.
- 46:42I literally have an entrance on the
- 46:43opposite side.
- 46:44You don't even have to make another hole.
- 46:50Yon wants you to put your pipes away.
- 46:54Oh, Hey, Robin doing all my,
- 46:55all my pressing work, man.
- 46:57Trying to get swole.

- 49:03but it was a bad one.
- 49:06To my knowledge, I haven't had any.
- 49:08However, I have.
