- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode of Learn Spanish with Fexingo? Luna: Oh, absolutely. I've been practicing the beach vocabulary from last time. 'Voy a la playa' — nailed it. Lucas: That's great. Today, let's go to a restaurant. You know, ordering food in Spanish is really useful. Luna: Oh yes, I love eating out. But I always get nervous when the waiter speaks fast. Lucas: Well, this episode is for you. And hey, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress, we'd love your support. We keep this show ad-free on purpose, and listener support makes that possible. The link is buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, totally. It's a small way to keep the learning going. Now, let's eat. Lucas: Right. So first phrase: 'Quisiera el menú del día.' That means 'I would like the daily menu.' Luna: Quisiera el menú del día. Quisiera el menú del día. Lucas: Perfect. 'Quisiera' is a polite way to say 'I would like.' You can use it for many things. Luna: So if I want the daily menu, I say 'Quisiera el menú del día.' Got it. Lucas: Exactly. Now, after you eat, you'll need to ask for the check. 'La cuenta, por favor.' Luna: La cuenta, por favor. That's 'the check, please.' Lucas: Yes. 'Cuenta' means bill or check. So 'La cuenta, por favor.' Luna: La cuenta, por favor. I'll remember that. Lucas: Now, if you're unsure what to order, you can ask '¿Me puede recomendar algo?' — 'Can you recommend something?' Luna: ¿Me puede recomendar algo? That's a good one. Lucas: ¿Me puede recomendar algo? 'Me' is 'to me', 'puede' is 'can', 'recomendar' is 'recommend', 'algo' is 'something'. Luna: ¿Me puede recomendar algo? I can see myself using that. Lucas: Great. Then when the waiter asks what you want for the first course, you say 'De primero, la ensalada.' — 'For the first course, the salad.' Luna: De primero, la ensalada. 'De primero' means 'for the first course.' Lucas: Exactly. And after you eat, you can compliment the food: 'Muy bueno, gracias.' — 'Very good, thanks.' Luna: Muy bueno, gracias. That's simple. Lucas: Yeah. So let's put it together. You sit down, waiter comes. You say 'Quisiera el menú del día.' Luna: Quisiera el menú del día. Lucas: Then you ask '¿Me puede recomendar algo?' Luna: ¿Me puede recomendar algo? Lucas: Waiter says the first course is salad. You say 'De primero, la ensalada.' Luna: De primero, la ensalada. Lucas: Then you eat and say 'Muy bueno, gracias.' Luna: Muy bueno, gracias. Lucas: And at the end, 'La cuenta, por favor.' Luna: La cuenta, por favor. That flows nicely. Lucas: Let's try a mini conversation. I'll be the waiter. You start. Luna: Okay. Umm... Quisiera el menú del día. Lucas: Excellent. And for the first course, we have salad. Luna: De primero, la ensalada. Lucas: Great. Here you go. Luna: Muy bueno, gracias. Lucas: You're welcome. Anything else? Luna: La cuenta, por favor. Lucas: Perfect. You just ordered a full meal in Spanish. Luna: Ohh, that felt so good. I can actually do this. Lucas: Yes you can. Lucas: Practice those, and your next restaurant visit in Spanish will be a breeze. Luna: I'm definitely going to use these. Thanks Lucas. Lucas: You're welcome. Keep practicing with Fexingo, and see you next time.
