• 2:05
Speaker 4: You probably would, yeah.
• 2:07
  Speaker 1: It's quite listen.
• 2:09
  Speaker 4: I I'd vote for you.
• 2:10
Speaker 1: I stomped the throttle on that thing.
• 2:12
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and I will tell you that you stomp the throttle on that thing.
• 2:17
Speaker 1: You better be hanging on, because it's going to get away from you.
• 2:21
Speaker 4: My hair was blowing back.
• 2:22
  Speaker 4: It was terrible.
• 2:24
  Speaker 2: Your one hair.
• 2:26
Speaker 1: So you folks are waiting at the door the entrance is around the side over there.
• 2:29
Speaker 1: Yep, yep, we try to do a little bit of everything here and be helpful and make sure that everybody finds their way around.
• 2:39
Speaker 1: You're doing a great job, thank you so?
• 2:40
Speaker 1: Much we try, we don't do.
• 2:43
Speaker 4: We used to have a tip jar over here that Thank you so much.
• 2:45
Speaker 4: We try we don't do.
• 2:45
Speaker 1: We used to have a tip jar over here.
• 2:47
  Speaker 1: That's right.
• 2:48
Speaker 1: By the way, if you want to bring your car, there's still time.
• 2:52
Speaker 1: $30 gets you entered into the show, but if you just want to come and see, come and see.
• 2:59
  Speaker 1: It's free.
• 3:00
Speaker 1: Come see, come see.
• 3:00
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 3:01
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 3:02
Speaker 1: There's some interesting rides.
• 3:03
Speaker 1: You know it's interesting to go to these things because every cruise in or car show that we go to draws a different audience, so it's not the same car as you see all the time yeah, for the most part.
• 3:16
Speaker 4: We've seen a couple of duplicates in some of the events.
• 3:18
Speaker 4: Well, yeah, biff is here, biff is here.
• 3:20
  Speaker 1: Biff is here with his 55 yep or 56 he's a tri-5.
• 3:23
Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, well, 56?
• 3:24
  Speaker 4: .
• 3:24
  Speaker 1: He's a tri-five, yeah, okay.
• 3:24
  Speaker 1: Well, I know he's a tri-five, but I didn't know whether it's a 55 or 6.
• 3:29
Speaker 1: And I don't know why was I always attracted to the 56.
• 3:34
Speaker 1: I think really there's some minor details, the taillights mainly.
• 3:39
Speaker 1: That's how you could tell, but it's just me.
• 3:42
Speaker 1: I like the newer model, okay.
• 3:45
  Speaker 4: Make sense.
• 3:47
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 3:49
Speaker 1: David, did you bring a little attitude with you?
• 3:53
  Speaker 4: today.
• 3:53
Speaker 4: No, he's got five things going in seven different directions, do you?
• 3:59
  Speaker 1: Is it Sorry?
• 4:03
Speaker 4: Okay, david does things for a lot of other shows, yeah, so he's kind of in the middle of that radio show, so he's in the middle of that.
• 4:13
Speaker 1: Yeah, do you need to leave or anything?
• 4:16
Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, we don't want to interrupt.
• 4:22
Speaker 4: And Mike's still out trying to corral some folks.
• 4:24
Speaker 4: You got until 1.
• 4:27
Speaker 1: Mike, until 1 o'clock when we go off the air.
• 4:31
Speaker 1: I did want to extrapolate.
• 4:34
Speaker 1: I like that word.
• 4:36
Speaker 4: I can't spell it the Hemi Hideout Open House is coming November the 9th.
• 4:45
Speaker 1: It's an open house for two hours.
• 4:47
Speaker 4: That's it, yep, that's all you need.
• 4:50
Speaker 1: And bring $10 per person Cash Cash money.
• 4:53
Speaker 2: Doesn't take credit cards, doesn't take checks, none of that stuff.
• 4:56
  Speaker 2: And what happens?
• 4:58
Speaker 1: is that you donate your $10 worth of cash money for each person that you bring and then John matches it.
• 5:05
Speaker 4: he gives that money to the local charities out there in brookshire he does a lot, of, a lot of great work with a many, many charities out there.
• 5:13
Speaker 1: He does, he really does such a great and if you've never been to the hemi hideout, oh my god, I can't, I can't speak, I can't speak highly enough about it.
• 5:22
Speaker 1: Uh, it is a venue like you have never seen before.
• 5:25
Speaker 4: If you go once, you're going to want to go back, because he does this periodically for events.
• 5:29
Speaker 4: You can actually have an event there.
• 5:31
Speaker 4: They've done wedding receptions, They've done musical things there, tours they do tours all the time.
• 5:38
Speaker 4: But you have to call, register and they'll get that done for you.
• 5:41
Speaker 1: It's on his personal property.
• 5:42
Speaker 4: Yeah and everyone there is a volunteer Right.
• 5:45
Speaker 4: Everyone there that knows about the museum.
• 5:48
Speaker 1: Well, they know John, they know John, yeah.
• 5:50
Speaker 1: He's a great teacher, a great instructor, he's a great guy he is and you know he gets up there and he obviously, since he lives on the property, he shortchanges those that have never been there in his descriptions of all the stuff that's in there.
• 6:06
Speaker 1: It would be an hours, hours and hours long tour if you went through the whole thing step by step.
• 6:13
Speaker 1: I mean the Hemi hideout.
• 6:15
Speaker 1: Clearly this guy was a Chrysler Dodge Plymouth guy.
• 6:21
Speaker 4: But it's not only the cars, it's all the neon, it's all the presentation.
• 6:25
Speaker 4: It's all the presentation, it's all the nostalgic signage.
• 6:28
Speaker 1: He's even got a dinosaur head in there.
• 6:29
Speaker 4: He's got a dinosaur head in there.
• 6:31
Speaker 4: He does, and it's real.
• 6:32
Speaker 4: It doesn't talk or anything, but it's real.
• 6:35
Speaker 4: He's got motorcycles in there, he's got tractors, he's got all kinds of stuff.
• 6:39
Speaker 4: My favorite part is he's like an outdoor bar-ish area and the bar stools are saddles.
• 6:45
  Speaker 4: Yes, very cool.
• 6:47
  Speaker 1: It is.
• 6:47
Speaker 1: The whole venue is fabulous, and so we invite you to drive out there.
• 6:51
Speaker 1: It is well worth it.
• 6:53
Speaker 4: And it's not a long drive, it's an easy trip.
• 6:55
Speaker 1: Yeah, brookshire, right across the Brazos River, they're at Peach Ridge Road.
• 7:01
Speaker 4: And the road's been redone.
• 7:02
Speaker 4: I think they're all kind of opened up.
• 7:03
Speaker 4: It used to be bad, but I think it's a lot, lot better yeah.
• 7:08
  Speaker 1: I believe so.
• 7:08
Speaker 1: David will be there Only 10,.
• 7:12
  Speaker 1: What 10 years?
• 7:12
Speaker 1: Oh, it's I-10, the Katy Freeway.
• 7:14
Speaker 4: Well, somebody keeps stealing it.
• 7:15
  Speaker 4: Yeah, I know.
• 7:18
Speaker 1: Yeah, which is always.
• 7:19
Speaker 1: It's kind of like the Gulf Freeway that you're familiar with.
• 7:21
Speaker 1: There was a friend of mine that got back from Italy.
• 7:24
Speaker 4: I think he got back from Italy and he said he saw a sign it said Brookshire, three miles on the road.
• 7:28
Speaker 4: So they're taking the road, they're giving it away.
• 7:30
  Speaker 4: Didn't make sense.
• 7:36
Speaker 1: You know, this is why we have you on the show Jeff.
• 7:38
Speaker 1: Because you make us think.
• 7:41
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I'm a thinker, all right.
• 7:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, there's no doubt about that, you still carry that.
• 7:47
Speaker 1: So I brought up the Hemi hideout, and there's a couple of others that we also have coming up, you know what you keep going, and I'll reiterate those when it's my turn.
• 7:56
Speaker 1: Well, we also have the weekend after the Hemi hideout.
• 8:03
Speaker 1: We have the Tailpipes and tacos.
• 8:06
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's another goodie.
• 8:07
Speaker 1: What I'm calling is the holiday kickoff, because they're asking if you would bring a wrapped toy.
• 8:18
  Speaker 4: Wrapped or unwrapped.
• 8:19
Speaker 1: Well, we don't want it out of its packaging.
• 8:21
Speaker 1: Oh, no, no, no, but we don't want to have it wrapped in any kind of Christmas.
• 8:24
Speaker 4: So David can't bring one of his Barbie dolls from two years ago to throw it in the donation bin.
• 8:29
  Speaker 4: You know what?
• 8:30
  Speaker 4: Let's ask him.
• 8:31
Speaker 1: David, would you bring your Barbie doll?
• 8:33
Speaker 4: He will, but you've got to wrap it.
• 8:35
Speaker 1: Okay, anyway, that's Tailpipes and Tacos, and that really has kind of been instrumental in propelling this show into the remote world.
• 8:47
  Speaker 4: I don't know whether that's a good thing or a tailspin.
• 8:50
  Speaker 4: Yeah, a tailspin.
• 8:51
Speaker 1: But anyway, we're going to do three hours out there.
• 8:55
Speaker 1: It's going to be from 8 to 11 on November 16th.
• 8:57
Speaker 1: That'll be fun and you bring a new unwrapped toy and get a free breakfast.
• 9:02
Speaker 1: Taco Toys will be donated to Toys for Tots and Houston Children's Charity the last one that he had in the spring oh, tots.
• 9:11
Speaker 1: And houston children's charity the last one that he had in the spring.
• 9:13
Speaker 4: Oh, my god, just about to say we had to park next door.
• 9:14
Speaker 4: Yeah, it was so many people because it's a, it's a series of restaurants that the parking lots are connected and all of the parking lots that were connected were full.
• 9:20
Speaker 4: Yeah, and we were kind of concerned that some of these other restaurants open a little later, 11 o'clock or noon, that all this would be, you know, dispersed before they open, and they were a little concerned.
• 9:30
Speaker 4: But there was, there was, I bet you, 300 cars out there there had to have been there, definitely a lot get there early because the spots go quick and if you're with a club or a team or if you got buddies that have the same like cars, get there early to get the goods well, the fun thing about that car show is is that cars will come and go during the show.
• 9:48
Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, it is a cruise in.
• 9:49
Speaker 1: This is a judged show, so everything here is pretty much static until the judging ends at 1.30.
• 9:56
Speaker 4: And you get the Loopy Tortilla Chili Pepper Trophy.
• 9:58
  Speaker 4: That's right.
• 9:59
Speaker 4: Yeah, we should have brought that with us.
• 10:00
Speaker 4: We should have brought that and we should have brought the Wally, but that is what it is.
• 10:04
Speaker 1: And, by the way, speaking of Wally, I have to thank the Emmons Brothers and Emmons Autoplex for sponsoring us last week at the Stevenson Park and the Corvette Club car show.
• 10:19
Speaker 1: That is probably one of the best car shows ever.
• 10:22
Speaker 1: Oh my God, yeah, we.
• 10:30
  Speaker 1: Why is he?
• 10:31
Speaker 1: What is he doing?
• 10:32
Speaker 1: Oh, we're going to line him up.
• 10:34
Speaker 1: Oh, I'm jealous because this is my car that's pulling in here and we're going to interview him here in just a few minutes.
• 10:45
Speaker 1: This is a 69 Camaro with a great big bulging hood.
• 10:49
Speaker 1: This is a 69 Camaro with a great big bulging hood, which generally means that he's got some sort of an intake on that thing that sticks up above a stock.
• 11:00
Speaker 1: Anyway, we'll find out about it, but anyway.
• 11:02
Speaker 1: So thanks to the Emmons guys for the show last week.
• 11:04
  Speaker 1: We appreciate that.
• 11:08
Speaker 1: I can't wait to talk to this guy.
• 11:09
Speaker 1: What time is it?
• 11:09
Speaker 1: Because I want to get the commercial in.
• 11:11
Speaker 1: Let's take the commercial early and get him over here and get him all loosened up.
• 11:17
Speaker 1: Are you going to open the hood for us too, please do?
• 11:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, let it breathe a little bit.
• 11:22
Speaker 1: Well, we'll be the judge of that.
• 11:26
  Speaker 1: Yeah, it is.
• 11:28
Speaker 1: Oh my God, see, I knew that there was a different intake manifold on there.
• 11:32
Speaker 1: That's why that big bulging hood on it.
• 11:35
  Speaker 1: But it's a beautiful orange 69 camaro z28.
• 11:38
Speaker 1: That's not the original dz motor in it, I take.
• 11:41
  Speaker 1: It's double that.
• 11:44
Speaker 1: It's double that, okay.
• 11:46
Speaker 1: Well, it sounded a little fast, let me put it that way.
• 11:50
Speaker 1: All right, let's take a quick break and we'll talk to the owner of the beautiful 69 Camaro here in just a second.
• 11:58

• 14:37
Speaker 1: Okay, his name is Michael Boyd and I'm jealous.
• 14:43
  Speaker 1: A 69 Camaro that's pristine and it's got a bad-to-the-bone motor in it.
• 14:49
Speaker 1: Michael, it's great to have you here and thank you very much for pulling your car up here for us you bet.
• 14:54
Speaker 3: Thanks for having me.
• 14:55
  Speaker 1: You bet.
• 14:55
Speaker 1: So all right, I mentioned to him during the commercial break that it didn't sound like a DZ motor, which is the original stock motor in the Z28 from 1969.
• 15:06
Speaker 1: So what you got underneath that?
• 15:08
  Speaker 3: hood.
• 15:08
Speaker 3: Sir, it is a factory-sized engine.
• 15:12
Speaker 3: It's the same size engine block as a 396, 427, 454 big block.
• 15:17
Speaker 3: Okay, 9.8 deck height, but it's 615 cubic inch, oh God.
• 15:22
Speaker 3: And it makes 950 on pump gas 950 horsepower.
• 15:28
Speaker 3: Yeah, and with the nitrous and race gas it makes about 1,200.
• 15:34
Speaker 1: You know a little bit about cars, then.
• 15:36
  Speaker 3: A little bit.
• 15:37
Speaker 1: Uh-huh, did you build that motor yourself?
• 15:39
Speaker 3: I had a shop build it.
• 15:40
Speaker 3: I specced it out, but yeah, I had a shop build it up in New York.
• 15:44
Speaker 3: Shafroff Racing Engines in New York.
• 15:46
Speaker 1: Yeah, and it sounds like it's got something other than a stock 454 cam in it.
• 15:54
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's got the biggest hydraulic motor, that cop uh cop cams make 775 lift good lord 279 at 050 duration.
• 16:05
Speaker 3: It's it's more than necessary and it would probably run a little better when I cruise it around on the street with a smaller cam.
• 16:12
  Speaker 2: But wouldn't sound.
• 16:14
Speaker 2: You can't help it.
• 16:15
Speaker 2: You know what fun is that you do it, because you can.
• 16:20
Speaker 1: That's right, thank God we still can.
• 16:21
Speaker 1: Yeah amen, how long have you owned that 69?
• 16:25
Speaker 3: I found it up in Southington, connecticut, in 2016.
• 16:31
  Speaker 4: Finders, keepers.
• 16:32
Speaker 4: I had one, I had one.
• 16:35
Speaker 3: As a matter of fact, I used to cruise right by this school.
• 16:38
Speaker 1: Did you go to this school Back in the?
• 16:39
  Speaker 3: 70s.
• 16:39
Speaker 3: No, I went to Springwoods, but we're all in the same district At the time it was 17-5A.
• 16:44
Speaker 3: So I was telling that young lady I used to play football in the stadium, that used to be right here.
• 16:48
  Speaker 3: But I had a 69 back in the 70s when I was 17 years old that had a 396 in it and a four-speed and a 12-bolt that I paid $1,500 for Wow.
• 17:01
Speaker 3: It was a 500-horsepower street car and it was orange, just like this one, and I kept it until 88, and I was broke and couldn't rebuild the motor, so I sold it and then I kicked myself in the rump for about 30 years.
• 17:12
Speaker 3: In 2016, I saved up some money and I found that car on classiccarscom and I just got lucky.
• 17:20
Speaker 3: I was the third person the woman contacted, and the first two tried to knock her down on price, so she hung up on them.
• 17:28
Speaker 2: You said I want it.
• 17:29
Speaker 3: I told her it was sold before I even saw it.
• 17:31
Speaker 3: You know, because I'd seen the pictures, I'd seen the spec on the car.
• 17:35
Speaker 3: It had a 427 in it at the time, had a built turbo 400 in it and a Ford 9-inch already in it with a 411 and a Detroit Posi unit already in the car, same paint that you're looking at now, same body, already had the glass hood on it and it was in there for $25,000.
• 17:52
Speaker 3: Every car on that site at the time, comparable, was $45,000.
• 17:56
Speaker 1: I was going to say $55,000.
• 17:58
Speaker 3: There you car on that site at the time.
• 17:58
  Speaker 1: Comparable was 45, I was gonna say 55 000.
• 18:00
Speaker 3: There you go twice.
• 18:00
Speaker 3: And I just was in the right place, the right time she had when I found the ad on a friday night.
• 18:04
Speaker 3: She had no phone number so I banged out an email fast as I could and I was the third guy.
• 18:08
Speaker 3: She called and, like I said, the first two tried to knock her down on price.
• 18:12
Speaker 3: So she hung up on him and she called me the next morning and I told her it's sold, it doesn't have to run.
• 18:18
Speaker 3: It was because it was mechanically what I was looking for.
• 18:20
Speaker 3: It had a big block already in it.
• 18:23
Speaker 4: It had a built tranny built rear end already in it, so you brought it out here to sell it.
• 18:28
Speaker 3: Well, as you well know everything is for sale.
• 18:31
  Speaker 1: That's exactly right.
• 18:33
Speaker 2: Yeah, you'd have to get into six figures to get it from me.
• 18:35
Speaker 2: I know a guy looking for a Camaro yeah, yeah, and he's been looking for a long time.
• 18:38
Speaker 3: It did cost you $95 or $100 to get it from me.
• 18:40
Speaker 3: You got that don't you.
• 18:43
  Speaker 4: You know, I got $100.
• 18:46
Speaker 1: I went to Loopy Tortilla last night, so I'm broke today.
• 18:48
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah yeah, we all are.
• 18:49
Speaker 3: Did you put the roll carbon steel cage in it and I had that cut out?
• 18:59
Speaker 3: That's a chrome MOLLE 8.5 back half in it now.
• 19:01
Speaker 3: So if I go to the track I don't get any, you could be legal.
• 19:04
Speaker 2: Yeah, you could run Right, because you got a little bit of heat on the back of it.
• 19:07
Speaker 2: They'll let me run more than once.
• 19:08
  Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
• 19:12
Speaker 1: You take it to the drag strip.
• 19:13
Speaker 3: It has never been because they closed Baytown before.
• 19:16
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, ah, dang it.
• 19:18
Speaker 4: Yeah, and this is too far.
• 19:20
Speaker 4: I just keep praying.
• 19:20
Speaker 3: Somebody will build one out here on the west side.
• 19:22
Speaker 1: Well, there's the eighth mile up there at Houston Motor Sports.
• 19:24
Speaker 3: Yeah, and I've seriously considered that.
• 19:26
Speaker 2: Yeah, Lufkin's a pretty good little drive.
• 19:29
Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I'd have to trailer it to a decent track you know to really see and I know you can use the little conversion they do on eighth mile.
• 19:38
Speaker 1: Take your eighth mile time and multiply it times 1.55, and that's supposed to be pretty close to what you're running.
• 19:44
Speaker 1: Well, I would encourage you to take it up to the Texas Motorplex up in Dallas.
• 19:47
  Speaker 2: It's a great track.
• 19:48
Speaker 3: Yeah, if you're going to put it in a trailer.
• 19:49
Speaker 3: You know it's funny.
• 19:51
Speaker 3: I've seriously wanted to trailer it up there for the big Good Guys show.
• 19:56
Speaker 3: Yes, they there in Fort Worth or up there at the track Texas Motor Speedway.
• 20:02
  Speaker 2: Right.
• 20:02
Speaker 3: And then that's exactly what I was thinking On the way back.
• 20:05
Speaker 3: I'll just stop at Innis and put it on there Put a couple of time trials in.
• 20:08
Speaker 3: See what she'll do.
• 20:10
Speaker 3: Should run a real low nine or a high eight.
• 20:15
Speaker 1: Golly, I like it a lot.
• 20:17
  Speaker 1: I like it a lot.
• 20:17
  Speaker 1: It's a little bar, I like it a lot.
• 20:18
Speaker 3: Well, I mean, that's just a simple conversion of horsepower and weight.
• 20:22
Speaker 3: The car weighs 32 and change, and 1,200 horse with the nitrous.
• 20:27
  Speaker 3: I mean.
• 20:28
Speaker 1: How do you keep the tires from burning up on the back end of it?
• 20:32
  Speaker 1: Gingerly.
• 20:33
Speaker 3: Mickey Thompson wrinkle wall slicks.
• 20:35
Speaker 2: There you go, just can't drive it in the rain, just can't drive it in the rain, just can't drive it when it's wet, you know Well, you don't want to do that.
• 20:40
Speaker 3: Anyway, I was going to say how much fun is that car in the rain?
• 20:42
  Speaker 3: Anyway, None.
• 20:44
Speaker 2: So is that a factory original Z28?
• 20:47
  Speaker 2: No, it's not.
• 20:52
  Speaker 3: It's actually a little three-speed coupe car.
• 20:53
Speaker 3: It was green and green because.
• 20:54
Speaker 3: I had a friend of mine looked up the VIN on it and he told me it was specced out as a 327 coupe with three on the tree, old, three-speed, manual.
• 21:04
Speaker 3: And it does still have the clutch pedal and all that gear in it.
• 21:08
Speaker 3: You know, because I do know it was a manual car.
• 21:12
Speaker 2: Oh, so you didn't take any of that out.
• 21:13
Speaker 3: No, no, Well, the pedal's gone of course, so I'm not stepping on the pedal for nothing, but it's still got the, still got the small four-speed brake pedal, you know, even though it's an automatic car.
• 21:24
Speaker 3: But uh, yeah, it's just, it's just really fun to drive and it's a it sounds fun, and it looks fun, it's a hellcat killer oh wow.
• 21:35
Speaker 2: what could be throw, oh wow.
• 21:37
Speaker 4: What could be Throw that?
• 21:38
  Speaker 3: there, timber.
• 21:39
Speaker 3: What could be more fun than that?
• 21:41
Speaker 4: In your face, Hellcat.
• 21:44
  Speaker 1: Exactly.
• 21:44
Speaker 1: Have you had a little roustabout with any of those?
• 21:49
  Speaker 4: cars.
• 21:49
Speaker 4: Oh sure, sure Got any of them here.
• 21:51
Speaker 4: Let's see Two of them.
• 21:51
Speaker 3: matter of fact have you, yeah, and it wasn't close.
• 21:54
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah and it wasn't close.
• 21:56
Speaker 3: Funny they didn't want to talk about it afterward either.
• 22:00
Speaker 1: No, I'm sure not.
• 22:01
Speaker 1: You know, the youngsters today really don't appreciate what we know and no sense of humor what we've got within us.
• 22:17
Speaker 3: You know, what I think a lot of it is is they don't realize all your modern day hot rods, your ZL1 Camaros, your GT500 Mustangs, your Hellcats, 4,000, 4,200 pound cars.
• 22:25
Speaker 4: Right, they are heavy, very true.
• 22:26
Speaker 2: They are very heavy.
• 22:27
Speaker 3: You know, all that stuff's great until you're trying to outrun me.
• 22:31
Speaker 2: You're going to have a little more juice if you're going to do it.
• 22:34
Speaker 3: Yeah, and look, you'll never see me knocking blown cars or turbo cars.
• 22:39
Speaker 3: There's no denying them, those things make great horsepower, but I just love the old naturally aspirated motors.
• 22:48
Speaker 3: Yes, sir, I mean Me too.
• 22:50
Speaker 3: If I could have, I seriously considered putting a 632 in it, but I'd have had to do so many more modifications to get it in there, because you know that extra 600,000 of block height pushes everything out and up and the way it is now.
• 23:04
Speaker 3: All I literally had to do to the car was notch that front cross member about three inches and box it in and that 615 dropped the other pan to fit the pan and that 615 just drops right in man see that, yeah, in fact I took the motor mounts off the 427, bolted them right on that block because it's a 9-8 deck, you know yeah, yeah, but like you said, that's the reason that car was outfitted the way you wanted it.
• 23:28
Speaker 1: Save you all that work all that modification yeah, how long did it take you to uh once you got the car down here to houston texas to do all the work that you've done to it?
• 23:38
Speaker 3: Well, that's the fourth motor, third, transmission and second, rear end.
• 23:43
Speaker 3: So I replaced the rear end with the strange engineering 9-inch.
• 23:48
Speaker 3: It's got the aluminum Ultra Pro Center section, the strange posi track in it.
• 23:53
Speaker 3: Which, that strange posi man?
• 23:57
Speaker 3: Man, anybody building a nice street car, if you're going to put a rear end in it, that strange posi unit, it's.
• 24:04
Speaker 3: It's the next best thing to a spool, you know, but you can't run a spool and keep tires on it because every time you go around a turn inside tire off.
• 24:14
Speaker 3: It works so good.
• 24:15
Speaker 3: It doesn't matter how hard I hit it and how long the tires spin.
• 24:19
Speaker 2: Did you blow the 9-inch Ford out of it or did you just upgrade it?
• 24:21
Speaker 3: No, I just upgraded it because I knew that it was an old Bronco rear end, but it had a Detroit Locker Posse already in it and a 4.11 gear already in it, and that's another thing.
• 24:31
Speaker 3: When it had the smaller motor in it, I needed that gear to get off as fast as I did I wanted to.
• 24:36
Speaker 3: Now it's just got a 350 rear gear in it because I've just overcome the weight.
• 24:41
  Speaker 3: What?
• 24:41
Speaker 4: do you do for a living?
• 24:44
Speaker 3: Actually I do ultrasonic testing on jet engine and rocket engine parts for a company called Element and we just use like ultrasound to test engine parts before they go into aircraft motors and stuff like that Interesting.
• 24:56
Speaker 1: Kind of like a new version of blueprinting the motor sound to test engine parts before they go into aircraft motors and stuff like that interesting kind of like a new version of blueprint in the motor it's, it's, it's really, it's really neat stuff.
• 25:06
Speaker 3: I was in the waste haul business with my dad for 25 years and then the big players came in town and bought all the landfills and ran me out in 2010 and I had a friend that was in this business and he got me an interview and I've been doing that about 15 years now Nice.
• 25:20
  Speaker 1: Did you ever?
• 25:21
Speaker 1: You're probably not old enough Did you ever go down to Houston International Raceway down?
• 25:26
  Speaker 3: on 45?
• 25:26
Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm old enough, are you?
• 25:28
  Speaker 3: I'm 62.
• 25:29
  Speaker 3: Are you Okay?
• 25:30
Speaker 3: Yeah, I sure did.
• 25:32
Speaker 4: Well we'll leave it at that.
• 25:40
Speaker 3: I miss having a good track here, that's for sure.
• 25:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know if y'all remember gulf tech's dragway down there at lauder and 45 south I do not remember that yeah, there was a drag strip right up right next to i-45 up until about the early 90s.
• 25:53
Speaker 3: Now there's subdivisions where it was but, uh, in fact, one of the only cars ever beat my old camaro.
• 25:59
Speaker 3: I saw down there two weeks later.
• 26:01
Speaker 3: I was heartbroken too.
• 26:02
Speaker 3: This guy had a pink 66 chevelle with a small black pearl pink beautiful paint, you know for pink and uh, I ran into him over on west timer on a weekend night.
• 26:13
Speaker 3: We went and had a little drag and he, he just spanked me, he hurt my feelings and I moped around for two weeks and then I went down there with a friend of mine and had a little drag and he, he just spanked me, he hurt my feelings and I moped around for two weeks.
• 26:20
Speaker 3: And then I went down there with a friend of mine who had a track car and there's the pink chevelle guy pulls up, rips off a 10, 10.
• 26:29
Speaker 3: I didn't feel so bad anymore you know because I was running around on big old, fat mickey thompson street tires with that car.
• 26:36
Speaker 3: And that car was quick.
• 26:37
Speaker 3: It was probably a low 11-second car.
• 26:42
Speaker 2: But yeah, after I saw him do a 10-10, I felt great.
• 26:45
Speaker 2: I was like hell, you know.
• 26:47
Speaker 3: Now I know why he was 11 lengths out on me.
• 26:51
Speaker 1: Well, I'll tell you what that sure would have looked good underneath all those pine trees up at East Tech'sway up there on 59.
• 26:59
Speaker 3: You know I always wondered what the first homebuyers in Kingwood thought, because I used to go up there and watch.
• 27:08
Speaker 3: I saw Don Gartless up there leave black strip from start across the finish line up there and run a 605 at.40 in that drag strip and I don't know if you've ever been up there back in the day when a fuel car ran up there.
• 27:25
Speaker 3: You'd hear that motor echo for 10 seconds through that forest.
• 27:29
Speaker 3: I remember the first time I saw that I wondered.
• 27:33
Speaker 1: I wonder what these people who just dropped half a million dollars on a house thought they were moving out in the woods are thinking right now Well, the other scary thing about it is, of course, they couldn't run those.
• 27:43
Speaker 2: There was no run-out area up there Not much.
• 27:45
  Speaker 1: Well, trees.
• 27:47
Speaker 2: Yeah, that was about it.
• 27:50
Speaker 1: Well, michael Boyd, it's a pleasure.
