- 0:16Glory Podcast. Welcome back Hunter, Austin Rose and our newest member to tote
- 0:22a free tag. We are here to talk college football today, not just
- 0:28Tusker football, but all of college football. And as Dak's here wearing his
- 0:34ou Boomer, Sooner had I'm sure we'll get a deep dive into the Sooners
- 0:40down in Norman. I've got it all ready to go, all right.
- 0:45Before we jump right into that, I do want to add a comment or
- 0:49ask a question about coach rule that we didn't get to on Sunday, So
- 0:56we'll get to all the different stuff going on in college football, all the
- 1:00conference realignment, the NIL, the transfer portal, the teams that are gonna
- 1:06succeed are gonna have a leader that is gonna do well with those things as
- 1:11they continue to evolve, and and wherever it's gonna end up, it's coach
- 1:18rule. Gonna be on the cutting edge of it. Is he gonna be
- 1:23just in the middle, Is he's not gonna do anything with it? Like
- 1:27one example right now, Dabbo. Dabbo is like anti transfer portal. It's
- 1:33teams like one hundred tenth or something in the country. I think it's hurting
- 1:37them. I think it's hurting Clemson. They're no longer the dominant team in
- 1:41the ACC at the top by themselves. Is Matt Rule the guy to fit
- 1:47all of this jumbo jumbled mess that we got going on? Um, I
- 1:53guess my initial thought is just based on what he's said so and na l
- 2:00Wise, he says he's not opposed to players getting paid, but that's not
- 2:05what he's selling, and that he's going to make sure it's done in the
- 2:08right way. So there's two ways that I see that, where it's he
- 2:13might not be taking advantage of the system, but he's also doing it the
- 2:16right way, which might be a good pitch, I don't know. And
- 2:19it's basically pretty much a similar stances what he has for the transfer portal,
- 2:23where he says, I'm not I'm going to use it and we want to
- 2:29make sure people, the students are using it properly, but we're here to
- 2:31develop guys. So I think he's gonna be lean more towards the good side,
- 2:38but I don't think he's gonna be on the cutting edge. He's got
- 2:44he's got adapt and be able to use it because you can lose a player,
- 2:46just like today he lost that starting safety, you can lose a player.
- 2:52Yeah, you can lose a player right away, like any day,
- 2:54you can lose one and don't We don't know. I guess with Farmer or
- 3:00that seems to be DUI related and Rule put him on suspension, so we
- 3:07think that probably has something to do with it, But yeah, we don't
- 3:09know if that was the whole story. Is that Rule trying to establish a
- 3:13culture. Same thing with Bob Wagger getting resigning his position from the tight end
- 3:21coach, Like, is that him trying to say, Nope, this is
- 3:23this is our expectation and this is what we believe in. I saw someone
- 3:28this is just a friend or someone that I know that goes to the college
- 3:30that said, seriously, we're gonna suspend a guy for just having a dui.
- 3:35The ship that went down over the past four or five years and guys
- 3:38were allowed to get away with compared to this, it's unbelievable. And I'm
- 3:40like, huh, So you wonder what was going on under Frost. I
- 3:45mean, as we can imagine, who the hell knows that was going on
- 3:49behind closed doors with the Frost regime. But maybe that is Rule just saying
- 3:53nope, this is how it's going to be, which I mean I'm not
- 3:58opposed to. He's like, hey, going to follow the rules, this
- 4:00is what we do. If you can't do it, get out. I
- 4:03mean, that's part of the culture thing that you wanted with Frost, right
- 4:06what is our culture? And being undisciplined was kind of the what we saw
- 4:14in the field. And if you want to start with off the field being
- 4:17disciplined and make that way onto the field, that kind of makes sense.
- 4:20Well. I read an article about guys showing up to an eight o'clock meeting
- 4:24at eight oh three or eight oh five, and Rule made it a point
- 4:28to call that out, said this is the kind of standards that we have
- 4:31right now, and that just pisses me off even more with what was happening
- 4:34under Frost, Like that to me is culture one oh one. But yeah,
- 4:40I do think that has an impact on a lot of the close games
- 4:42and a lot of that dumb shit that went on under Frost. So we're
- 4:46not here to bash off Frost Frost. I just wanted to get opinion on
- 4:50Rule. I do think Rule has He's a good people person. He knows
- 4:57how to read people, he knows how to put people in the play.
- 5:00So if he doesn't think he's equipped to deal with let's just say the transfer
- 5:04portal, for example, he's going to find the right guys to put in
- 5:08that position to deal with it. I think that's where he'll succeed. I
- 5:12agree with the Austin. I don't think he's going to be on the cutting
- 5:14edge of any of this stuff, but I do think he knows people really,
- 5:18really well, and I think that'll only benefit him when it comes to
- 5:23all these movie crooks. And the university has been on the cutting that as
- 5:27far as an I I mean like when the na L became nationwide, there
- 5:30was an article on ESPN that was like, here's what Nebraska is doing and
- 5:33what we expect other people to do following. So Nebraska has actually done pretty
- 5:38well as a school setting up how they're going to process NIL. Do I
- 5:43think we're gonna have the most money flowing into our NIL system? Probably not,
- 5:46But we know that the school itself is setting up a system that helps
- 5:51students with NIL, So it's not all going to follow on that rule,
- 5:55which is kind of what he's alluding to. It's like, Hey, that's
- 5:57not my job. If students get paid but that's not why I'm that's not
- 6:00why I'm here. Well, if you have a good structure set up,
- 6:05that's the best way to go about nil. Because Miami just had they're big
- 6:10in il. Dude, he's he's getting investigated for I don't even know what
- 6:14he did, money laundering or what. I don't even know what he did.
- 6:16I'm not sure something about because he well, he got paid a ton
- 6:21of money and then decided to transfer because he wasn't gonna get a play but
- 6:27he so he went. They were suing him for his money, for their
- 6:30money back or I don't know exactly what the situation was, but yeah,
- 6:34yeah he went. He went in and bought a bunch of players and now
- 6:38now looking back on it, they all he's going basically at jail probably,
- 6:45I mean, it is it's all this stuff that when there's not many regulations
- 6:48around it, like what are people gonna try to get away with? And
- 6:51then what's gonna come to find out that, oh that was not right,
- 6:56Like I don't know, it's just it's a it's a lot old world and
- 7:00conference realignment here is going to be a big topic of today's episode here,
- 7:05So usc UCLA coming to the Big Ten next year. Owe you Texas leaving
- 7:14the Big twelve next year the Big twelve. sEH, go you know what,
- 7:19Dak, you just go go right now? What do you what do
- 7:21you think about that? We'll just stay right on Owe you in Texas.
- 7:26I all right, if I'm being honest, I wish they stayed the Big
- 7:30twelve. Don't kill him. I do because I know there's more money in
- 7:34the in the SEC. But I like the way the Big twelve is set
- 7:40up. I like all the schools are relatively close to each other. Like
- 7:45I don't like. I don't like like saying Nebraska and all them now.
- 7:49I don't like having to play far away teams, like now you gotta travel
- 7:53to La and all that. I don't want to travel to Bama, Georgia,
- 7:57Blorida. Yeah, but you have all your recruiting set up here right
- 8:01now. Now, you got to reset that all is a Big twelve gonna
- 8:05survive on its own. I think now it is. It's gonna get all
- 8:11the Pac twelve. Yeah, they're gonna they added Colorado and I think they're
- 8:16probably they're gonna add one more for sure to make it fourteen and and so
- 8:22yeah let's go through those real quick, because I I until I started getting
- 8:26back into college football stuff here over the last couple of weeks, I was
- 8:30shocked at all these teams coming into the Big twelve this year BYU Cincinnati,
- 8:35was Houston in there already this year? No, this is their first year.
- 8:39I'm pretty sure you sef all new teams joining this year and then adding
- 8:46Colorado, So maybe big Big twelve will be okay. I think that was
- 8:50one of the conferences we didn't know about. But the PAC twelve looks to
- 8:54be then basically falling apart. I saw that they were trigging to try to
- 9:00sell their media rights to like Apple or something, just to try to make
- 9:05money. It was a rumor. Obviously it's not whether it's true or not.
- 9:07But if they're going to try to sell to an independent streamer and they're
- 9:13losing all their big schools, no way they make it. Oregon and Washington
- 9:20will be next to go. They'll probably go Big ten, I would think.
- 9:22I think the rumor is Oregon, Washington, Clemson, and who is
- 9:30the other one those rumored to be coming to the Big ten or State Florida
- 9:33State. Yeah that's right. But so the point to all this, I
- 9:37guess is all these the top teams in every conference are leaving to go to
- 9:45two conferences, the SEC in the Big Ten. So yeah, the Big
- 9:48twelve mite quote unquote survive. But I mean, Dak Austin and I talked
- 9:52about this previously. Do you do you envision those two conferences just jumboing and
- 10:01making their own almost league. Um, I think I think it'll end up
- 10:09being the SEC, the Big Ten, and the Big twelve now and then
- 10:13the Pac twelve will just go around and join. They'll all the schools will
- 10:18join those three conferences. They'll all just go there. But but who's gonna
- 10:22Big twelve gonna have? I mean, the Big twelve's gonna keep their top
- 10:24dogs are gonna be k State, Baylor, I mean Oklahoma State supposedly talking
- 10:31football. They could pick up some of the Pac twelve. I mean,
- 10:37yeah, Arizona State like great, but cal Colorado your your your power your
- 10:45powerhouses are gonna be two conferences here moving forward, And yeah, we have
- 10:50this whole new playoff system coming where it's gonna be a twelve teamer. You're
- 10:54gonna get four buys, You're gonna get an automatic UM group of five team
- 11:00into that every year. But I think there's a stipulation that it it's not
- 11:05the winning team from every Power five conference is the winning team from the top
- 11:11five conferences by some metric. So that's not necessarily going to be what we
- 11:16know as the Power of five necessarily, especially with all these moving parts and
- 11:22teams leaving and going anywhere. Do we like the new setup or is this
- 11:28going to continue to change every two or three years because we're gonna have new
- 11:31conferences and it's just going to continue to be a roller coaster that we have
- 11:33to get used to year after year. It all depends on the money.
- 11:39Every everyone is falls with the money's at gosh. I don't know. I
- 11:48do. I think the SEC in big sen my opinion, I think they
- 11:50will. I think they're gonna if they get enough power and Dak, you
- 11:54nailed it. The money, They're gonna have the money to be able to
- 11:56say, you know what, we're gonna do our own thing, almost like
- 12:01an NFC, AFC, NFL. We're gonna have two leagues and we're gonna
- 12:03have our own thing and screw everybody else. Now. I don't know when
- 12:07that could happen, but I do think they're going to have to do that
- 12:13my only because I mean, conferences go beyond just football and athletics, you
- 12:20know, like the Big Ten. I remember when we were at Nebraska,
- 12:24there was like research things because it was all it's like, oh, go
- 12:28to any Big Ten institution and do X, y Z or part of this
- 12:31Big Ten initiative is X. You know, like this there is some sort
- 12:37of like you could go to these schools and participate in some program, you
- 12:41know, academically, the conferences also matters. So I don't know if it's
- 12:46going to become a sport dependent conferences. I don't know how they're treating it
- 12:52right now. But you know, for instance, like Notre Dame, they're
- 12:58not part of any conference until they were for basketball. I don't know if
- 13:03they don't think do they do that for basketball still? I think they do.
- 13:07Yeah, they're still independent, but yeah they're part of the ACC for
- 13:11basketball, I know, and a couple other sports. And did you see
- 13:16the ACC just being like a basketball conference like picking up Kansas, Gonzaga,
- 13:24all the big time schools. Yep. I mean there's that whole other side
- 13:31of things with basketball and men's basketball, college football are going to be your
- 13:37two generating revenue sports. So those are going to be when people are talking
- 13:45about like Colorado coming to the coming back to the Big twelve was not for
- 13:48football fuss, not at all. What do you mean they got don now?
- 13:54So it could be could be is the I'm gonna work? Is he
- 14:00gonna work? Oh? I I think he will. At first, I
- 14:07think it's suns A hell of a quarterback. I'm not I'm not betting I'm
- 14:11gonna win the hisman, but I think I think he's gonna be really good.
- 14:16Are they gonna beat Nebraska? Yes, yep, they're gonna beat him.
- 14:26Nebraska didn't go one and won the first two games. Okay, so
- 14:31we're beat in Minnesota. Yeah, they're gonna beat Minnesota. I don't for
- 14:37the Colorado game right now. I saw Minnesota as a touchdown. We're favored
- 14:41by like ten. I think, wow, what I saw Wow? On
- 14:48the road a right, Colorado is not supposed to be very good. But
- 14:54neither or we No, That's what I'm thinking, was like, hey,
- 14:58won four games, Okay, raining it back in here. Let's talk N
- 15:03I L N I L is are we going down the right path with nil?
- 15:13And what I mean by that again, I think very long term when
- 15:16I when I think about stuff, and I think about five ten year periods,
- 15:22our players going to start getting contracts to where it's going to be more
- 15:26like professional sports. I think we talked about this last year where the scholarships
- 15:33have become contracts. Yes, because it's becoming more and more that way.
- 15:37There's more and more information now on these NIL deals and it is a lot
- 15:41of these transfer portal reasons are NIL related. I just saw something today that
- 15:48I can't remember who it was. Maybe it was Bryce Young that said before
- 15:54he got his NIL deal in college door dashing. Yeah, So is nil
- 16:03still good? Are we still moving down the right path? The NCAA still
- 16:08has really yet to put their foot down on a lot of this stuff.
- 16:12So it's still kind of the wild wild West where trains reportal. If you
- 16:15want a better deal somewhere, you go leave. And then what impact does
- 16:19that have on coaches and talk about culture with what someone like coach Rules trying
- 16:26to do. What impact does that have? Well? I think it benefits
- 16:33Like for instance, Nebraska right now, Rules basically he is recruiting three star,
- 16:40no star guys and he's hoping he can develop them into talent. So
- 16:44I'm thinking that he's hoping. You know, maybe the thought process there is
- 16:48is if I develop them over two years before they play, you know,
- 16:53they're gonna be more likely to stay and the money's going to come to them
- 16:56because they've been here for a long time. I don't know. I don't
- 17:00think it's going to in fact the transfer poorer. Well, so like Hunter
- 17:03Dickinson is the one that comes to my own, I think nil because he
- 17:07left Michigan basketball completely different, left Michigan basketball, went to Kansas, and
- 17:14he's straight out and said he's like money definitely played in this decision because he
- 17:18was like the not one. He was one of the best college basketball players
- 17:22last year for Michigan, which is a great basketball school, and he's still
- 17:26left for Kansas. So it's stuff like that that makes me think that it's
- 17:32being used improperly because you know that that was kind of like tampering because he
- 17:37wasn't under a contract. But also you know, he didn't like, oh,
- 17:41I'm just gonna transfer to Kansas and not know what money I'm getting,
- 17:45because he's straight up said no, I if money played into this, that's
- 17:51the stuff that I don't think I'm gonna like about it, but I think
- 17:52it is the right path. Yeah, I don't. I don't like the
- 18:00transfer portal that much because there's no loyalty anymore to any team at all.
- 18:04You could the coach make him mad one day at practice. You could transfer
- 18:07next day right after that. And I don't know, I think it used
- 18:14to be. I like that used to be with was a year or two
- 18:17years you had to sit out I think just one year depending one. I
- 18:22like that because then that have little instentive. When you commit to school,
- 18:26you're gonna for sure be there two years and you can build up your program.
- 18:30If you don't like it, then you can leave right now. You
- 18:33can just leave any day, any time. Yeah, I probably agree.
- 18:37There should be some sort of cap on a number of times you can transfer
- 18:41without cause you know, if like a coach gets fired. I don't think
- 18:44that should count against it. But you can transfer twice in your four years,
- 18:48but I think once is totally fair. Like if you get somewhere and
- 18:52this is not what I signed up for or it's not working out, students
- 18:56should have the ability to leave and still play football. I mean, let's
- 19:00be real, we are We are just more and more empowering the student athletes
- 19:04with all of these things, every new development, it's giving more power to
- 19:11them. So that comes to my next point is where is the NCAA and
- 19:17conferences, as the governing bodies of these schools and these players, where where
- 19:22is their role and where is their foot going to come down and say,
- 19:26nope, here are our buy laws, here's our guidelines, because right now
- 19:30we are giving a lot of freedom to these eighteen twenty one, twenty two
- 19:33year olds who really have no professional support advice given to them right now.
- 19:41You know, professionals have agents, they have people that can help make those
- 19:45decisions for them. They're dealing with a lot higher dollar amounts right now.
- 19:48But as we give more power right now, we're putting and it's not the
- 19:53entire world, but a lot of the entertainment of college sports is going in
- 19:59the hands of eight twenty two year olds. That could be okay, it
- 20:02could be good. It's what people want right now. There's a little scary
- 20:07though. There's a lot of adults that are talking into these kids ears that
- 20:11don't have the kids' best interest at heart. Yep, you know, they're
- 20:15looking out for their bottom line, or hey you should transfer. I know,
- 20:18like say students at a school and it's going pretty well, but it's
- 20:21hey, come over here, we're gonna offer you more money. It might
- 20:23not be a better situation for the student, but there's no So you're right,
- 20:29there's no support system set up. I think the NCAA is toast.
- 20:33I don't think they're going to survive outside of like I mean, there's so
- 20:37many small sports, and then March madness is kind of their baby. Well
- 20:42they might. They have to continue to support the student athletes and every every
- 20:48way, shape or form, because I think one to take a stance against
- 20:51it, that's when their their hands folded. So they have to do everything
- 20:56they can to support the student athletes with the way it's going. But right
- 21:00now they have zero power over anything. Yes, they basically when an AIL
- 21:07came onto the scene, they're like, yeah, we're gonna let you guys
- 21:11self governed. And now you can't go in and be like no, these
- 21:14are the rules. You need to play by. These rules now that the
- 21:17conferences have grown, No, they're big enough, that's like, and we
- 21:19don't need you. They kind of messed up pretty bad. Actually, did
- 21:26their CEO get fired. Nope, no, I don't think so. No.
- 21:32There they got a new president though that the other one resign. Okay,
- 21:41one other thing before we get deeper into some of these conferences. Big
- 21:47rule change this year for those of you that aren't aware. The biggest one
- 21:52is that clock is not going to stop after first downs unless it's inside two
- 21:57minutes, So very similar to the NFL DAK. What's that gonna mean for
- 22:06the betting people out there? What are we betting off? Well? I
- 22:10got I got one question about that. Is it gonna be able to stop?
- 22:11There's one second? Laughter? Geez uh, skip on that comment,
- 22:25don't heal quick? No, what's your question? I don't you just you
- 22:30just heard play clock and all you thought about or the clock and you thought
- 22:33of Texas. Oh yeah, right, I was gonna say that right after
- 22:37you said that. I do. But yeah, I do think that it's
- 22:42gonna lead towards the under interfere for the first few weeks until the markets are
- 22:47daft to it. I think the markets have tried to adjust to it.
- 22:48But which it was weird because no one was complaining about how long college No
- 22:57one was Yeah, I did not hear anyone would be like, man,
- 23:02these college football games are they're too long? Why are we shortening something that
- 23:07we all love? Like, I have no idea. It's it's just like
- 23:11overtime. They made that worse too. It was perfect the way they had
- 23:15it. Now they now what they got two point conversions after? Is it
- 23:18one driver or two? I think, oh no, I think it's too
- 23:21try. The third overtime is too. Yeah, it was perfect the way
- 23:26they had it. I don't know why they thought change that up. Who
- 23:29knows. Just wanted to get get our thoughts out on that. Okay,
- 23:33I want to go on to eat of the just really brief at a high
- 23:38level. Um, we'll start at alphabetical order. So we're starting ACC.
- 23:45Clemson skip. That's literally all you have to say about the ACC. So
- 23:51you do like Clemson. I don't like Clemson, but I don't know who
- 23:55I do like out of a sec Here's who I like. Louisville man in
- 24:00Florida State, Florida State. Okay, maybe I can see that. I
- 24:04don't think Clemson's winning the ACC this year. I don't think they are.
- 24:07I think I think Florida State's gonna that they're the one I like to win,
- 24:12which kind of pisces me off because I remember when we were doing this
- 24:17podcast here two or three it was Florida State, Tennessee, Nebraska were the
- 24:19three schools that were all on the same boat. Two of them are doing
- 24:23really really well. One is no whoops, Dak. Anybody else in the
- 24:30ACC that you like, Oh, I'm big on I think Florida State's got
- 24:36run away with it. I Jodan Travis is a hell of a player,
- 24:40and I I'm with you, and I to my comment on Clemson, I
- 24:45think I think Clemson's stock is going down. I agree with that, but
- 24:51I don't think they're utilizing the portal correctly. I think ever since your boy
- 24:57left for Oklahoma, Dak, I think their defense is falling off. So
- 25:02I don't know. I think I am selling Clemson big time and I'm buying
- 25:07Florida State right now. And Louis but Louis Bille is my sleeper team that
- 25:10everyone's out on. North Carolina got about them. I do like them.
- 25:17I like Drew drink May That's what it is. Yeah, he I forgot
- 25:23about North Carolina. They they might have a shot at it too. I
- 25:29think it'll be for sure, be Florida State and they'll be second place,
- 25:32but it'll be they'll be right behind them. North Carolina was nine and five
- 25:36last year when Clemson was eleven and three, and Florida's State was ten and
- 25:41three. So I don't know what their schedules look like, but I probably
- 25:48agree that those are the three at the top. I'd still probably take Clemson
- 25:52over Florida's State, though, Miami, you nah, Nope, all right,
- 26:00big twelve, da you get to lead this one yourself. Go ahead.
- 26:04There is no way in this world Oklahoma doesn't win it. Wow.
- 26:11That's coming off of TCU's national title appearance in case state winning the conference PC
- 26:15is gonna be garbage this year. They lost Max Dungan. That's true.
- 26:19And the thing about Coloma is their defense cannot get worse. Well, okay,
- 26:25I take that back out. I saw twenty years a bit getting worse,
- 26:27but eventually it's got to get better. And another year under Dylan Gabriel,
- 26:34I think Venables will start to get his offense figured out a little bit
- 26:37better. His defense. He I hope he figures out defense. Yeah,
- 26:42that's what he came in for. I don't That's what I'm confused on with
- 26:47OU and is Venables was the defensive guy in their defense was absolutely atrocious.
- 26:53And I don't know that it's gonna get any better, is it? Who's
- 26:59the back? Who's the linebacker? The good ones supposed to be the linebacker?
- 27:04Oh, the freshman M I know you're talking about Dak. I know,
- 27:14I cannot think what his name is. Oh anyways, I asked.
- 27:22What I've heard about him is that like he's supposed to be the one that's
- 27:25supposed to be the leader of their team. But I don't know that.
- 27:29I don't know. These are my notes on OU. I have three down
- 27:33pointing arrows next to them. I don't I don't want them. I don't
- 27:37want them this year. And that has nothing to do do with you,
- 27:38Dak, and you being on the podcast. I just don't. I think
- 27:41they're gonna have it down to you. I really do. There's one thing
- 27:47they need to stop doing, and that's recruiting five two cornerbacks every year.
- 27:52Every year. They have the shortest cornerbacks in nation, and they just get
- 27:59towards every season. I will say the Big Twelve as a conference, I
- 28:03think is better this year than they weren't last year. I think Texas will
- 28:08be better. I think two CU will probably be a little bit worse,
- 28:11but not much worse. They got some depth and they're not gonna have some
- 28:15They don't gonna have too many duds. Right, Case State's probably gonna be
- 28:19about the same. Kansas should be better. Texas Tech probably the same,
- 28:23maybe a little better. Well, Iowa State just lost their quarterback. Yeah,
- 28:29yeah, oh, they could be a dud. Iowa State's definitely a
- 28:33dud. They had their moment, now they're they're Yeah. No, Iwa
- 28:37State's gonna be a dud. These do these new teams, I guess the
- 28:42one that maybe has any chances UCF do they have a shot at all?
- 28:45Hero No, I don't think so. B y U b Yu could have
- 28:55a shot. Oh Taki, Yeah, I I've read a lot on BYU
- 29:00and their defense supposed to be very good. Well, the one team we
- 29:04haven't talked about is one of my favorite teams in college football this year Dad
- 29:10oh Case Date Oh Texas. Okay, and I hate saying that, but
- 29:15I think Texas is going to have a really big year and the one last
- 29:21year, the one future that I have this year on is Texas to make
- 29:25the College Football Playoff. I think I think I think they'll be there.
- 29:29I think they're gonna win the Big Twelve pretty easy there. Their odds are
- 29:32like plus one oh five right now plus one hund and they are turned up
- 29:37un and it's another year with Stark. I like Texas this year, Quinn
- 29:41years is back again with with some depth at QB. I mean, talk
- 29:47about a team that's gonna have some depth at quarterback a lot I like.
- 29:53Honestly, I think I kind of I'm kind of with you. I like
- 29:56Texas last year and then they just didn't quite put it all together. But
- 30:02the brand is definitely there for if they are one lost team, I could
- 30:07totally see them being in the top six teams in the nation just because if
- 30:11they win the Big Twelve, for sure, I mean I have them Tier
- 30:15one, I have OU Kansas State Tier two, and then everybody else tier
- 30:18three. I don't think Texas is losing to any Tier three or below teams
- 30:22in the Big Twelve. And I mean, if they won't play OU in
- 30:26k State, we'll see if they can beat them. But I think they
- 30:29could easily win the Big Twelve. Back You're really quiet why I hate I'm
- 30:33gonna say as well, why is everyone so low on years this year?
- 30:37I've areen like no one's talking about him, and I think he's a hell
- 30:40of a quarterback. He is a really good quarterback. You can delete I
- 30:45said that. But all right, moving on, let's skip the Big Ten.
- 30:52We're gonna have a separate podcast on the Big Ten here as we go
- 30:56through the Husker schedule, Let's move on to the Path Act twelve, led
- 31:03by usc UM. Oregon and Washington are up there towards the top. The
- 31:08long shot that I like is Oregon State. I think they could make a
- 31:14run at least to get to the title game. UM UCLA. Their odds
- 31:18are pretty low, but they've had a pretty solid past couple of years.
- 31:22Utah, don't we go? Utah? I totally forgot about Utah? Came
- 31:26Rising? It is camera Rising gonna stay healthy? That's the question. That
- 31:33is a great question. Is he even gonna play this year? That's another
- 31:37question. I say back, we got DJ DJU coming to coming to where's
- 31:48he going? He's at Organ State. That's why I love Organ State.
- 31:52DJ. You definitely USC's conference to lose a lot of good quarterbacks. We
- 31:57got what does face bone Nix and Oregon. Yeah, Dak loves Bownicks.
- 32:04I hate us even more though. I there's two traders on that team.
- 32:14All right, SEC, what do we think? That's a great question.
- 32:22Alabama had a down yet year last year for them two losses. Are they
- 32:28falling? I think is. I don't know if it's there falling, but
- 32:32I think everyone else is rising. I mean Georgia, George's Georgie's mind notes
- 32:38minus one oh five win the SEC minus one oh five. Yep, they'll
- 32:45probably win it again, but it's gonna be a lot tougher. Tennessee should
- 32:52be back with a healthy quarterback. LSU I expect to be better. Brian
- 32:55Kelly did pretty well. You're one LSU team on the ride. I think
- 33:00Texas A and M's a team that's doing the opposite falling off. Auburn's kind
- 33:05of in that same boat. Florida is in that same boat. The SEC
- 33:08is weird. I some of these figures Arkansas, Like, yeah, teams
- 33:15could pop up and play a good game, but then you look on a
- 33:19random Saturday in Georgia Beach, Mississippi State like forty six to seven, Like
- 33:23right, it, SEC is just hard for me because it's like it's the
- 33:28biggest conference, but you're still getting dominated by one or two teams. But
- 33:31then you never know. A and M takes Alabama to overtime last year.
- 33:37My dark horse in that conference is the Mississippi State. Will Rogers could throw
- 33:42for six hundred yards any Saturday. I like that a lot, Dak,
- 33:45I like it a lot really, to be honest, They're just the school
- 33:52that's they're having a moment. I don't want to take it away from them.
- 33:58Is the SEC getting two in the playoffs? Oh nope. I think
- 34:05the Big twelve is gonna produce a playoff person. I think usc is if
- 34:09they don't lose to Utah twice, I think they're in. And obviously a
- 34:13Big ten spits one in two. Well, let's let's just do this.
- 34:16I'll go first because I've prepared this, but let's give our four playoff teams
- 34:21here as of right now on August second, with what we know, let's
- 34:24go through and say who's in for a playoffs and then who's just outside?
- 34:30Who's five? Okay, yeah, so I'm going these are these are gonna
- 34:35be my four teams. I got Georgia mhm. I got Texas, I
- 34:42got Ohio State, and bear with me here I got Can I do it?
- 34:47I don't know if I can do it. I'm gonna I'm gonna go
- 34:51Bama Ohio State. There's a team that I kind of want to put in
- 34:55that I think could get in Penn State, WHOA going to collaborate on until
- 35:00we get to our Big ten preview. But I'm pretty down there and I
- 35:07think, um, I'm gonna go. Florida State is my first team out,
- 35:14their second team out with Penn State. I'm pretty close. I got
- 35:17Georgia, USC, Texas, Ohio State, and then I have a BAM
- 35:23on the outside as well as this one. I'm not an hundred percent committed
- 35:29on. Michigan is the one I want to say, but it seems kind
- 35:32of like the safe pick, but I'd probably put LSU. So I have
- 35:37three SEC teams right there. Yeah, Dak Let's here at Ou, Georgia,
- 35:46Oklahoma, Washington Okay, and and Michigan and in Florida State just barely
- 36:00behind them, Okay. I like it. It's interesting that the conferences were
- 36:07pulling from because like I didn't have anybody from the ACAS or from the Pact
- 36:12twelve, because I think they're gonna beat everybody up again like they do every
- 36:15year until USC and UCLA finally get out of there. Part of me also
- 36:20wanted to throw in um Notre Dame because they kind of but I don't know.
- 36:25They had a really rough start last year, but they ended pretty all
- 36:28right. But I don't know what their schedule is. They're always the wild
- 36:31card there. Do you never know? They played somewhat tough schedule every year.
- 36:37Notre Dame. They want them in the playoffs. I are they ever
- 36:42gonna join a conference now or they just gonna stay independent? They got the
- 36:46money power. They have the money power to do what they want. They
- 36:50just like a massive merchandise deal, like massive. So they're fine, and
- 36:58they know every team's every team is more than happy to play them. Yep.
- 37:01It's like, yep, bring them in like we want, we'll play
- 37:05them. We'll play you the Irish, all right? Any other last thoughts
- 37:13on college football world? Do you think it's gonna be a parody ridd in
- 37:19season kind of like it was last year? Real quick? I think so?
- 37:22Yes, Yeah, I think I think the powerhouses are the same powerhouses.
- 37:29I've been there for the last ten years, but some are falling and
- 37:31we're The gap is narrow Yep, the gap is narrowing between teams. The
- 37:37tops tighter. It's not Alabama and the rest, which is perfect as we're
- 37:44expanding into a larger playoff because it makes for a lot of exciting conversation where
- 37:50eleventh seed could potentially be to two or three seed in any matchup like that.
- 37:55The transfer portal narrows the gap a lot. I agree, Yep,
- 38:00that is Dak. That is the best take you've had on this podcast.
- 38:04Better end on that one. I don't know the one second one that was
- 38:07pretty all right. We'll be back Sunday talk Husker schedule. We're gonna go
- 38:15through our schedule game by game, make our picks, and see where we
- 38:20end up at the end of the year. Until then, go be great.
- 38:24You are Boomer sooner h
