- 0:00Speaker 1: Now back to then took It Joey.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Obey Radio.
- 0:08Speaker 1: We were in northern California.
- 0:09Speaker 3: I was doing a thing with real quick cut in
- 0:12Speaker 3: since Carl was all caught up in his spitefulness, we're
- 0:14Speaker 3: going to remove the names of the people in this
- 0:16Speaker 3: story because they probably wouldn't want you to know that
- 0:18Speaker 3: they're as spiteful as Karl.
- 0:20Speaker 4: A bunch of a bunch of us and chefs, TV
- 0:23Speaker 4: chefs and you know, not hacky TV chefs and football guys.
- 0:27Speaker 4: We all went up to Napa to go to this
- 0:28Speaker 4: bar to have a couple of drinks. We drove a
- 0:30Speaker 4: bunch of Ferrari's. A really good day. This is what
- 0:32Speaker 4: my life was pretty much. It was a lot better
- 0:34Speaker 4: than it is now. And we're driving up when we
- 0:38Speaker 4: get to this space and we get this really fancy
- 0:40Speaker 4: points and places busy, we.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Take up the whole bar, so we have raiders, the Vikings.
- 0:45Speaker 4: I mean, it's just everybody's an all star in this thing.
- 0:49Speaker 4: But we're all in convertible, so everyone had hats and
- 0:51Speaker 4: no one could tell you, and no one.
- 0:52Speaker 5: Knew who I was.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Even if I didn't have a hat, ons it didn't matter.
- 0:54Speaker 4: But we're sitting up there, and the manager goes, hey, guys,
- 0:59Speaker 4: that's not this type of place.
- 1:01Speaker 1: This is Napa Valley. Let's keep it down. Here we
- 1:06Speaker 1: go again.
- 1:07Speaker 4: I'm the fat Jason Bourne of the I take I
- 1:09Speaker 4: take care of everything.
- 1:10Speaker 1: So he looks at me.
- 1:11Speaker 4: He goes, Cuban, get everyone in his fucking bar, tell
- 1:15Speaker 4: him I'm paying the tab and we're going across the street.
- 1:20Speaker 1: So I'm like, no problem, I said, can I use
- 1:23Speaker 1: one of these football knuckle hends. He's like yeah, I'm like,
- 1:25Speaker 1: come with me.
- 1:25Speaker 2: The biggest giant you've ever seen.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Biggest, I mean his skulls. It's like three skulls melted together.
- 1:31Speaker 4: So I'm walking with him and he's not you know,
- 1:33Speaker 4: I mean, he's not.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Gonna he's not gonna be on Jeopardy anytime soon.
- 1:36Speaker 4: So I talked to real slice. You just say that
- 1:40Speaker 4: you played football. It's gonna help because he's are rich
- 1:42Speaker 4: people snap off, you know what I mean. It's like
- 1:44Speaker 4: it's nine tucket with wine, right. He's like football, that's
- 1:51Speaker 4: all perfect, and he's giant. So he's like, we're all
- 1:56Speaker 4: gonna leave, We're gonna start paying everybody's tab and we're
- 1:59Speaker 4: all gonna go across. So it was I don't know,
- 2:02Speaker 4: it must have been ninety people in this place. Nice
- 2:05Speaker 4: and we got everybody took us like thirty minutes. Here
- 2:08Speaker 4: comes the GM. They run the whole thing. He puts
- 2:10Speaker 4: out the black card, which is beautiful, it's metal.
- 2:13Speaker 5: Oh yeah, you.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Don't think these people know that.
- 2:17Speaker 4: They're like, all, right, place dreams not the place to
- 2:23Speaker 4: dream about a black card, right.
- 2:26Speaker 1: So he slipes it all and I don't know. He
- 2:28Speaker 1: was like, it must have been seven thousand or nine thousand.
- 2:32Speaker 1: It was something.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Stupid, and he puts zero on a tip and he goes,
- 2:35Speaker 4: you got all the quiet you need now, honey, And we.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Went across the street with all these people. It was unbelievable.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And that's what I realized. If you know, if you spiked,
- 2:48Speaker 1: Spike moves everything.
- 2:50Speaker 4: Spike moved a bunch of privileged NAPA residents from one.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Restaurant to the other. It was on the street.
- 2:57Speaker 1: God blessed, God bless that place. Her face, I haven't
- 2:59Speaker 1: never seen anything like that.
- 3:00Speaker 2: You're you're digging the jeeps out here.
- 3:03Speaker 4: I think every land Rover is here. There's a bunch
- 3:06Speaker 4: of them, and and they're fun too.
- 3:08Speaker 1: They the lift kits on. They're dirty, they put stickers on.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Gorgeous.
- 3:11Speaker 4: I'm cute, but a landlod I would wax that thing
- 3:14Speaker 4: every day like Biff.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I mean, they're there's stuff in them. It's unbelievable.
- 3:20Speaker 4: And the vintage, the vintage land Road seventy eight wagon there,
- 3:24Speaker 4: the wagoneers are beautiful, the white one.
- 3:28Speaker 3: I just took a.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Picture of it.
- 3:30Speaker 5: You're my favorite person. Contract that's a good He's got
- 3:37Speaker 5: all the.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Great What is an architect here?
- 3:41Speaker 1: Does he just make this smaller? Come great?
- 3:50Speaker 6: Kid?
- 3:52Speaker 1: Friend, you're born and raised here was.
- 3:59Speaker 7: All from the Cape, from the Cape originally right just
- 4:02Speaker 7: outside of Boston. And been listening to this guy though
- 4:05Speaker 7: since back in af days.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, yeah, really long time ago.
- 4:09Speaker 5: Damn how many years were talking? That's age Opie right now.
- 4:13Speaker 7: I can remember listening to him when I was working
- 4:15Speaker 7: in the sheet metal shop in high school.
- 4:16Speaker 8: And I graduated high school ninety seven.
- 4:18Speaker 2: You're gonna damn old.
- 4:24Speaker 8: Sprightly then, So.
- 4:25Speaker 6: I got I got fired twenty years ago from Boston.
- 4:28Speaker 6: Twenty years just passed.
- 4:30Speaker 5: That's when you'll have the fake when you have said
- 4:32Speaker 5: the mayor was dead. Yeah, you know the story tell
- 4:35Speaker 5: him tell a story.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Well, he's not here, he spent Grandma's in the audience.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Don't judge. Please For Apel Fooles, we decided to tell
- 4:45Speaker 2: the whole city of Boston that the mayor died in
- 4:47Speaker 2: a car accident. And we thought we could get away
- 4:51Speaker 2: with this.
- 4:52Speaker 1: And yeah, that's the reaction. I just people in shock.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Open just ruined his own podcast.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Yeah, we thought it was fine, right, did you keep
- 5:04Speaker 2: it going?
- 5:04Speaker 6: Well, they begged us to stop, and I figured at
- 5:07Speaker 6: that point it was too late, so we just went.
- 5:09Speaker 2: And then the PD's like, all.
- 5:10Speaker 6: Right, at least at the end of this, just say
- 5:12Speaker 6: April fools, maybe that'll help us. And I said, yeah, man,
- 5:14Speaker 6: no problem, and then we signed off and just walked
- 5:16Speaker 6: out of the building and left a mess for them.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Two weeks later, we were fired and they literally escorted
- 5:22Speaker 2: us to the border of the troopers. They were not happy.
- 5:25Speaker 6: What the mayor might have been connected at the time, Wow, yeah, unbelievable.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Didn't his family hear about it or something like that.
- 5:32Speaker 9: No, I thought that was what the straw that broke
- 5:38Speaker 9: the camel back.
- 5:39Speaker 6: I said that on the news at the time, But
- 5:41Speaker 6: because he was trying to rub it in and he said,
- 5:43Speaker 6: you know, my family was listening and they couldn't get ahold.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Of how am I.
- 5:47Speaker 6: I'm trying to justify this really, I know it was
- 5:49Speaker 6: a terrible thing, but he said, you know, and my
- 5:52Speaker 6: family was listening to this, But I don't believe that
- 5:54Speaker 6: for a second.
- 5:55Speaker 5: And you remember when it happened, like you remember listening
- 5:57Speaker 5: to the show, when I.
- 5:57Speaker 8: Was listening to the show.
- 5:59Speaker 9: Then yet and then everybody he really believed that the
- 6:01Speaker 9: mayor was dead for a while.
- 6:02Speaker 7: I mean, i'd probably at the time probably would have
- 6:05Speaker 7: thought they were joking, knowing that I listened to this
- 6:07Speaker 7: right right right.
- 6:08Speaker 2: That's that's sort of was our defense.
- 6:12Speaker 5: He's really dead now.
- 6:13Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean, he came, you should do another show.
- 6:20Speaker 5: The Redemption shot told himself, well he's alive.
- 6:24Speaker 2: And well, I mean, it's not much funny in this part.
- 6:31Speaker 6: But years later he comes around to serious exam where
- 6:34Speaker 6: we ended up, and he was I believe he was
- 6:36Speaker 6: promoting a book. I was trying to get him on
- 6:38Speaker 6: the air and for the for the gods on the truth,
- 6:41Speaker 6: I wanted to apologize, So he didn't want anything to
- 6:43Speaker 6: do with me.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Twenty years later, Oh.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I don't blame him. I mean that kind of shit, right.
- 6:50Speaker 5: That's brutal.
- 6:53Speaker 8: I mean the hundreds hundreds.
- 6:56Speaker 1: How does it feel?
- 6:57Speaker 4: How does it feel to listen to Opie since you
- 6:59Speaker 4: were a kid and now you're actually more successful than.
- 7:04Speaker 5: I guess I've got a veget right, you got a car.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Man? Damn once again laugh but not.
- 7:16Speaker 1: We're trying to rebuild this thing.
- 7:18Speaker 5: How long you have that wagon?
- 7:19Speaker 8: Are I've had the wagon air for five years?
- 7:21Speaker 5: Okay? And then if you're like a family member.
- 7:23Speaker 8: No, we bought it.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Uh.
- 7:24Speaker 7: We bought up an eBay from an old lady in
- 7:26Speaker 7: Colorado and we were the second owner.
- 7:27Speaker 8: It's like forty thousand miles off.
- 7:29Speaker 5: So that's not restored.
- 7:29Speaker 1: That's the way I.
- 7:30Speaker 7: Had it painted once because it started pitting a little bit.
- 7:32Speaker 8: But that's it's all original.
- 7:33Speaker 1: There worth so much funny. Yeah, it's ours here, unbelieva.
- 7:36Speaker 1: There's a lot of such stealth wealth here.
- 7:38Speaker 8: They do.
- 7:39Speaker 1: They do it like a that's a bookiy board? Is
- 7:41Speaker 1: that platinum? Give a platinum booky board that it doesn't
- 7:47Speaker 1: work too well?
- 7:48Speaker 7: They do like a car show in April that's called
- 7:50Speaker 7: the Daffodil Weekend, and there's like a they shut down
- 7:53Speaker 7: main street.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I guess what I'm staying here for that.
- 7:56Speaker 8: There's like bell Wing.
- 7:57Speaker 7: Mercedes and Old Bentley's and you know we usually bring
- 8:01Speaker 7: the waggoning, but the kids are chucking candy out in
- 8:03Speaker 7: the parade.
- 8:04Speaker 6: When me and Carl were walking around and enjoying the morning,
- 8:06Speaker 6: a nice peaceful morning, I told them, I bet you
- 8:08Speaker 6: they do some kind of parade with all the cheaps
- 8:10Speaker 6: and yeah, yeah, that must be spectacular.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Is this?
- 8:13Speaker 8: It's in April, last weekend in April.
- 8:16Speaker 2: You'll stay till the problems around them?
- 8:18Speaker 8: But I got an expert.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Better are you are?
- 8:20Speaker 1: You'll staying?
- 8:22Speaker 2: You have no idea? He'll be knocking on your door
- 8:24Speaker 2: like a rack are you here? Off season two? Yeah?
- 8:28Speaker 8: Year round?
- 8:28Speaker 2: How is that? I'm so curious about off season on that.
- 8:31Speaker 7: So I've got a wife and four kids and they
- 8:33Speaker 7: moved to the mainland in the in the winter because
- 8:35Speaker 7: it's fucking desolate.
- 8:37Speaker 8: But I love it, you know, I like the quiet.
- 8:39Speaker 7: You know, there's nobody, I mean the majority of the
- 8:41Speaker 7: people that we see around here now, I mean the
- 8:43Speaker 7: population goes from sixteen twenty thousand to eighty thousand.
- 8:47Speaker 9: Right, wow, wait, you get your four kids and your
- 8:49Speaker 9: wife to leave you alone.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Than you're Yeah, yeah.
- 8:55Speaker 8: It's pretty sweet.
- 8:56Speaker 4: I got my kids and my wife to leave me
- 8:58Speaker 4: and definitely and I heard.
- 9:01Speaker 5: I heard about your cabin.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I know I could one up this guy.
- 9:13Speaker 6: Me and Carl were walking around this morning man and
- 9:14Speaker 6: the watch can I talk about the watches is amazing,
- 9:17Speaker 6: like Carl's Carl's deep into.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Watches and that whole watch culture.
- 9:22Speaker 6: And the guy on Main Street he wasn't even open
- 9:25Speaker 6: yet and ran out onto the sidewalk because he recognized Carl.
- 9:28Speaker 6: He's like Carl, but he didn't recognize him from the
- 9:32Speaker 6: Food Network. He recognized him for the watch for one
- 9:34Speaker 6: of the guys in the in the watch culture.
- 9:36Speaker 2: And then we were trying.
- 9:38Speaker 8: On shot Spider right shot there. It's uh, surfboards in
- 9:41Speaker 8: the basement.
- 9:42Speaker 4: No, no, it's a little it's a little store that
- 9:44Speaker 4: has a clothing in the back, has like a little
- 9:46Speaker 4: up front of a Jaguar, a Jaguar six inside time
- 9:49Speaker 4: and something.
- 9:50Speaker 1: I forgot what the story is. But the guy is great.
- 9:51Speaker 1: He's a he's a great watch collector.
- 9:54Speaker 4: We've done some deals with Paul Newman Daytona's roll up
- 9:57Speaker 4: Saytona's he's a great guy.
- 9:58Speaker 1: He ran out there, he's I've I've been into watches.

- 10:09Speaker 5: And it's a story from Bronx tale.
- 10:12Speaker 1: It was the Brooklyn Tale, but I went from it.
- 10:13Speaker 1: He told me one day, he said, kid, I'm gonna
- 10:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna do you a favor.
- 10:17Speaker 4: I'm gonna teach you so every man.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Should should should know. He says, we're gonna go to
- 10:21Speaker 1: forty sixth.
- 10:22Speaker 5: Street back then in the Diamond District.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Yeah, he says, we're gonna get your watch. Uh, he goes. Women,

- 10:36Speaker 4: chasing tail for six months. Right, I'm sixteen years old.
- 10:39Speaker 4: I'm like, I can't wait for that to have. But
- 10:42Speaker 4: he says on your wrist. Every man should have the
- 10:46Speaker 4: security deposit to an apartment, a new mattress TV. He says,
- 10:51Speaker 4: because when you get kicked out, that's gonna be the
- 10:53Speaker 4: only thing you're gonna have for a couple of weeks,
- 10:55Speaker 4: so always have that much money on your wrist.
- 10:58Speaker 2: God damn it.
- 10:59Speaker 1: He was right.
- 11:04Speaker 2: What watch we were trying on today? It was like,

- 11:13Speaker 5: Yeah, that's it.
- 11:15Speaker 2: You didn't get for like three.
- 11:16Speaker 1: I think you can probably get like three forty three thirty.
- 11:19Speaker 2: And we talked about it on a pest podcast.
- 11:21Speaker 4: But for the audience, it's in Nantucket, like in a
- 11:24Speaker 4: little store with no alarms. I'm looking rock around here.
- 11:27Speaker 4: I'm like, I'm gonna Danny Ocean this whole time. I'm
- 11:30Speaker 4: gonna get a little little acrobatic Asian.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Guy just to happen. I'm not even gonna use it.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I'm not using in the heights just I mean, just
- 11:37Speaker 1: for just to be period correct.
- 11:38Speaker 7: That's how a lot of the houses are. I work
- 11:40Speaker 7: in a lot of these houses you guys were talking about.
- 11:42Speaker 1: We'll talk about this later.
- 11:44Speaker 8: I can tell you hundreds of houses that have keys
- 11:47Speaker 8: under the shingle, keys under a rock.
- 11:48Speaker 5: Which which houses?
- 11:52Speaker 1: What are you going to steal? The Declaration of Independence?
- 11:55Speaker 7: I have money for they're vacant in the wintertime. You
- 11:58Speaker 7: know a lot of people now are putting cameras in them.
- 11:59Speaker 7: But I mean, I've been here for almost twenty years
- 12:02Speaker 7: and you sit down on the couch and have a
- 12:04Speaker 7: popsicle and watch the TV while checking on.
- 12:06Speaker 8: The heating system.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Is there crime here? There can't be.

- 12:11Speaker 1: You got to think that the opioids coming out here too? Brother,
- 12:13Speaker 1: What are you saying? So when you say jugs, are
- 12:15Speaker 1: they here now?
- 12:16Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 12:17Speaker 5: Like here?
- 12:18Speaker 6: Like?
- 12:18Speaker 5: Who?
- 12:19Speaker 1: How close is this crime?
- 12:22Speaker 8: Your phone numbers?
- 12:23Speaker 1: Is there some criminality going on here?
- 12:25Speaker 4: Don't worry Max An He'll book something like that.
- 12:28Speaker 7: Max the German, that's his nickname.
- 12:32Speaker 8: There's definitely subind the scenes crime really, yeah, for.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Sure, Like people change their name in the will.
- 12:37Speaker 5: I'm taking the ya. What about like the local, like
- 12:41Speaker 5: the people who stay here year round. Is it any
- 12:43Speaker 5: beef between the tourists and them?
- 12:45Speaker 8: Any beef? I mean we all depend on the semi.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 12:51Speaker 8: I mean you wait all year for them to.
- 12:52Speaker 7: Get here, because that's what your business is based around.
- 12:54Speaker 7: The when you get here, you can't wait for them to.
- 12:56Speaker 5: Leave yeah, you.
- 13:00Speaker 8: Want our we want our Island bag. You know, it's
- 13:02Speaker 8: it's you want them because we.
- 13:03Speaker 7: Depend on them, and there are great we have great customers,
- 13:05Speaker 7: and you know I have great customers customers.
- 13:11Speaker 2: That's smart.
- 13:12Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 13:13Speaker 6: So anyway, I had to get Carl refocused when we
- 13:16Speaker 6: were walking around.
- 13:17Speaker 5: He was sweating seeing's watch.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Yeah, seeing that there was no security.
- 13:21Speaker 1: In there and very windows.
- 13:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I had to walk them away and I had
- 13:26Speaker 6: to sport them to the next block.
- 13:27Speaker 1: The guy's like, yeah, man, I'm a big fan heres.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm a big fan of yours too. How
- 13:33Speaker 1: many of you are in here?
- 13:36Speaker 2: Just one?
- 13:36Speaker 4: Enjoy You're gonna go to sleepy Times.
- 13:41Speaker 1: What a watch store though, let me.
- 13:42Speaker 4: Tell you as a watch collector, they have some stuff
- 13:46Speaker 4: in there that I don't even see it in New
- 13:48Speaker 4: York City.
- 13:49Speaker 1: I mean there is wealth here.
- 13:50Speaker 4: There's some antique pieces in there, and I'm like, whoever
- 13:53Speaker 4: bought this was rich in nineteen fifty holy shit, you know.
- 13:57Speaker 1: And they're engraved from Nantucket. I mean, just beautif stuff.
- 14:00Speaker 1: This is great. This this is the other side of
- 14:02Speaker 1: the finish line. It's Nantucket place.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I just want to ask you again. We talked
- 14:07Speaker 2: about it on the past podcast. What's the most expensive watch?
- 14:12Speaker 1: I think it went for. It was a Paul Newman Daytona,
- 14:14Speaker 1: which they have one year.
- 14:15Speaker 5: They have one in the store.
- 14:16Speaker 2: It's in the store.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's not period correct that it has a
- 14:19Speaker 4: different dial whatever, but still.
- 14:23Speaker 1: He knows that's inside baseball. But it's still worth a
- 14:25Speaker 1: lot of money.
- 14:26Speaker 4: But I think the last one, the Gavel, went down
- 14:28Speaker 4: at seventeen pointy six million.
- 14:31Speaker 1: It was unbelievable and people.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Don't realize that a lot of I did a lot
- 14:35Speaker 4: of stuff for big hedge fund guys, and what happens
- 14:37Speaker 4: is for them to move wealth. That's what that's what
