- Jaba: Hello everybody and welcome back to the Scout and the Speculator Podcast. Another quick one for ya today. October sixth. We are wrapping up the games from yesterday in the AFL, Monday, October fifth, and without any hubbub, I'll kick it over to Jeremy to talk about the first game. Jheremy: No hubbub. I think the I mean you gotta start with Dax Kilby and what he did. That's kind of like one of the big ones. We were waiting to see what he would do, makes it, comes out. Three for four, I think he had what, a pair of balls, batted over a hundred and two yesterday. you like to see that. Two doubles. Obviously you already have the Yankees behind him. With that type of a performance, I just think his stuff is going to soar throughout the fall. he hit leadoff for the Salt River Rafters right behind him is Demetrio Cresante, somebody both you and I are high on. another three for five day. I think he had another double attacked on there. Just like he's a consummate hitter and all he does is hit and he's going to continue to hit. The question will be with his market, will he continue to add strength, add power? He hit a ball really hard in triple A once he made his debut there. the combination of hit tool first in Arizona is not great, but he has a solidified himself as a top one hundred guy. If we can get into some power, we're gonna see those numbers of his autos start moving. Yaso Soler had a pair of punches, did pick up a hit, just kind of going up and down that lineup. Nothing all that otherly impressive to write home about. I'm sure you could look through it all. Counterfoley. He picked up the save with one third of an inning and two walks, but he got the job done. So, offensively for Salt River, that was kind of the big takeaway there was just Dax Kilby and Demetrio Cresantes out of the other dugout. The Peoria Javalinas. Ike Irish batting leadoff is interesting. Went two for five pair Jaba: Yep. Jheremy: of punch outs. just good to see him back out there, obviously. missed a good chunk of the year. Probably somebody people kind of pushed to the back burner, kind of forgot about. Was it Chase coming out of twenty s twenty-five draft with that hit tool, power tool coming out of Auburn, an established SEC hitter? Then right behind him, you got Sammy Hernandez, somebody that you kind of spoke highly of, like this shouldn't be a five dollar, ten dollar base auto, whatever he was doing. He had a two for five day, no strikeouts. We like to see that. Did add a triple, showing off some speed there from old Sammy. Boston Smith doesn't have Bowman yet. Nor does Vance Honeycutt, who had his first of the year. First of the fall. First of the s first of the fall. Let's go with that. Went two for four. Did have a big home run. He'll be another interesting one to see. Maybe a 2027 Bowman guy. Hashtag question mark. And Brandon Butterworth. Somebody that our guy Big Dave kind of picked as one of his names that could pop in his AFL. And he added an added another double. That's his second of the week. Or season, weekend, long weekend. kind of doing things so far. Brandon Butterworth for being a sub probable three dollar auto right now. Has the namesake and then a pitcher we can actually talk about. Luke Holman. Started the game, Cincinnati kid, 2024 draft with the Reds through four innings. two innings struck out four. Let up an earned run. just small sample size there, just somebody we don't get to talk about pitching all that often. Nate Dome through threw two thirds. Not much to write home about there. Three walks, three earned runs over two thirds of an inning. Took the L. that's really it. I'm gonna say the big takeaway again is that Dax Kilby going three for four with two doubles and a pair of EVs north of a hundred. Jaba: Yeah. Yeah, it seems like at the top of that order with Kilby and Crysantes they might put up some pretty ridiculous numbers has you know, the top of that lineup. over to the Desert Dogs and Segueros. we had both kind of said that the Desert Dogs were stacked and gonna run away with things. They're now O and three and the Seguaros who we made fun of are three and although that was before they added Sebastian Walcott, Aiden Miller, and Anjubul Gomez, so I think we get a bit of a pass. starting with pitching, the only real Bowman guy on here was Frank Mazicato. you know, former what seventh eighth pick to the Royals Jheremy: Yep. Jaba: back in twenty twenty-one. It is now twenty twenty-six, bordering on twenty twenty-seven, as you all know. he did throw a clean inning in this one, one inning, one hit, no walks, which is huge for him, and a pair of Ks. You know, better than nothing there. But otherwise it was all about the bats. Each team had a dozen hits. surprise did not have Angel Gomez or Sebastian Walcott in the lineup, but they still managed to score eight runs. Welbyn Francisca stayed hot, hit another double, went two for five, scored three times. Zion Rose went one for five, but I saw he was hitting the ball hard. Aiden Miller also two for three with a pair of walks, so he got on base four. Four times. Cole Mathis of the Mets, O for four with a pair of walks, and he struck out thrice, which isn't great. Dante Nori also had an O for with a pair of K's. Caden Hetiger, who I believe was 26 Bowman. Or is he Bowman Chrome first auto? And it was color only. Okay. Yeah, Jheremy: Both. I think Yeah. Jaba: he went he he went one for three with a double, two walks, also two Ks. Not not sure how much juice there is there, but he is a Bowman guy over to the desert dogs that are loaded with some more Bowman names. good day for Dodgers. Davlon one for five, but the hit was a double. Chase Harlan finally got off the O for Schneid. two for four with a walk, a double, and a stolen base, which I didn't really know was kind of a part of his part of his game. one of my picks for the investment draft. Johnny Severino belted a homer. I believe it was at like 106, 107 off the bat. two run homer there for him. Dylan Lewis, Marlin, auto only, although I guess he was a Yankee on his cards, but he's with the Marlins now. no Jheremy: Mm-hmm. Jaba: base autos, just color. Two for five. And then Eduardo Quintero also two hits. And yeah, that that pretty much wraps it up. Easton Carmichael did have a pair of singles to go with a pair of Ks. Max Williams rough day over five with a trio of K's and Carter Johnson still looking for his first hit. But Jheremy: Mm-hmm. Jaba: yeah. Some some good Bowman names here and that's even with Walcott and Angevil Gomez out of the lineup. I just wanna see more Angial Gomez. Jheremy: Then we'll round it out. Scorps and the solar socks. This is kind of just kind of looking, right? This is the white box Bowman Auto kind of names where you go dig for some of these guys and they're off to good starts. We are going to continue to see what they do. I'm gonna start with the Mesa Solar Sox leadoff guy Cade Snell hit a ball really hard yesterday. One for five, but it was a well-struck ball. It was a double. We like that. the only signer for them in 26 Bowman. Lefty stick has some tools. It's going to be interesting to see what he kind of continues to do with it here. Jake Monroe, two for four, hitting out of the two hole. You've spoken your love song, Swan Song, about Jake Monroe. Continues to hit everywhere he goes. And Jaba: Big fan. Jheremy: and right behind him is Arjun Amala, who two for five did have a pair of strikeouts, but those are negated by the fact that he hit a very long home run, which we love to see. I think it was 400 plus. looks a lot stronger in the videos too, and for him to just continue that the heater that he's been on from the end of the year since basically he got traded up until now. He is continuing to kind of solidify himself as like a hey, don't forget about me. I'm a real prospect. And I've seen some people on on Twitter, don't know who can't recall who, still saying he's gonna be a top ten prospect. That might be a little rich for me, but he's still like gonna keep swinging it, gonna keep doing good things and Yeah, I mean would have got Davis Diaz doesn't have Bowman. Juan Cabada had a had the old hat trick down at the bottom of the lineup. In pitching, not a whole lot there either in terms of Bowman. And that's kind of going to be our day to day operation in the AFL with Bowman. Starting, however, for the Scorps of Scottsdale was Miguel Mendez. three hits, one earn, struck out three and two innings. I do like to see that. Would like to see what the stuff actually played like because he was such a cheap buy. He still is. I know there's a true gold that put up for 30 bucks OBO. And if he can string together some of these starts where he figures it out and starts putting it together, it's an electric fastball, like into the upper eight upper nineties with a wipeout type slider. He just had very, very mixed bag of results towards the end of the year after he got traded from San Diego to San Francisco. Offensively, I lied to you. No, I didn't lie to you. I pulled up the wrong page. That was all correct. Offensively, Bryce Raynor, quiet day, over three, had a walk, split time with Caden Kent, who came right in and picked up a pair of singles. So Caden Kent kind of getting his time. Dakota Jordan, another two strikeouts, but he did walk three times, which is promising to see. Picked up a knock in between. we like to see that. There's just the the recognition and the discipline, because he did strike out a couple times prior as well in the first two games. And that's Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: kind of always been the moniker with him is super big tools, super big power. Can he put the barrel on the ball enough? My $50 plus in our draft, Braylon Payne went two for five. did have a pair of strikeouts himself, but also blasted a triple, which we like to see. Neymar Ochoa Jr. I mean this is still somebody. I picked one up at five bucks base auto. It's just another single, but he stole another bag. Just continuing to do enough. And he's somebody I put a couple watches on cards, and you wake up every morning to like. This card's no longer available. This card's no longer available. So Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: the floor of his stuff is kind of starting to get scooped up. I'm not saying go buy it. I'm not saying it's a rush to go buy it. If you don't get it, you're out of luck. I'm not saying that at all. He's hitting 200. He's got a couple of hits over his first 10 at bats. But he's just somebody, he's 21, I believe, right? He like 6'4, 220. Like he's somebody who could turn it on here and take full advantage. And then I mentioned the white box guys. You got Wayne Luciano who went two for four and Matthew Wood out of 2023 Bowman, the Brewers catcher. he went two for three. Couple of walks for him. Again, nothing like a lot of singles. There was a total of three, four extra base hits this entire game. Of the twenty-four hits, four went for extra bases. There's really not a lot to talk of more than like guys putting the barrel to the ball, limiting the strikeouts. Matthew Wood, no strikeouts. Wayne, one strikeout. Both of them are hitting five hundred or better. again, not saying go rush out and buy them, but if you have a couple, like kind of monitor because what you thought might have been dead cards or three to five dollar cards could jump up. I mean, Wayner was already Jaba: Go. Jheremy: at like a fifteen dollar auto in our preview. But Matthew Wood, like twenty twenty three, go see if you got a couple of Let him see what he continues to do. We love Brewer Prospects in the Bowman world. he is a little bit older, Jaba: Sure. Jheremy: but if he keeps performing, like it only takes one game. Where that card that you thought might have been dead on arrival is now a ten dollar card. You get out of it, move into a new Bowman name, and you're good to go. Just keep the wheel churning. So Yeah, that's more or less Scottsdale Jaba: Yep. Absolutely. Jheremy: and or yeah, the Scorps and the Solar Sox. Jaba: Yeah, so a few more runs being scored yesterday. And yeah, I think we're both just looking forward to having a bit more significant of a body of work so that we can really get some hot takes off without burning ourselves. So yeah, that wraps up the AFL wrap-up for October fifth, twenty twenty six. We'll be back with another one tomorrow. Thanks everyone for listening. Bye.
