- 0:48Speaker 1: We got a special guest in here, a comedic legend.
- 0:51Speaker 1: His new stand-up special's on Netflix right now.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Blue in the face?
- 0:55Speaker 2: Yes.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Joe Coy. What's up, man?
- 0:58Speaker 2: I'm good.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Finally, got you here.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Oh, thank you, man. Finally, I'm talking to you.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yes, it's great to see you, man. I got to
- 1:05Speaker 1: watch the special. It is hilarious.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 1:09Speaker 1: You know what I appreciate about you is because I
- 1:10Speaker 1: always feel like comedians, there's always comedians that get broken
- 1:15Speaker 1: into whether you're a joke teller or a storyteller.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I see what you're saying.
- 1:20Speaker 1: But you are elite at both.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Like, your storytelling is bar none some of the best
- 1:26Speaker 1: in all comedy, man.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Thank you, bro. Yeah. Fuck. Thank you. I appreciate that.
- 1:32Speaker 2: It's crazy you say that because I was just talking
- 1:35Speaker 2: to my son about it.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:37Speaker 2: And my son's a huge stand-up fan. Thank God. And
- 1:42Speaker 2: I love stand-up. Right. But one thing that I really
- 1:45Speaker 2: loved were the storytellers.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I loved Richard Pryor. I loved Eddie Murphy talking about
- 1:52Speaker 2: his Aunt Bunny and Uncle Gus. I loved Louis Anderson.
- 1:56Speaker 2: There was another comic named Dennis Wolfberg that would just
- 1:59Speaker 2: tell these amazing stories about being a brother. Like Louis
- 2:04Speaker 2: would talk about his little brother and make his little
- 2:06Speaker 2: brother do stupid shit. The way he would just use
- 2:11Speaker 2: his words, you could actually paint the picture in your
- 2:13Speaker 2: brain and the story would just move, right? And we
- 2:17Speaker 2: were talking about that, and I was just like, but man,
- 2:20Speaker 2: I talk in joke form. For sure. You know what
- 2:23Speaker 2: I mean? Like, it's so funny because, you know, there's
- 2:26Speaker 2: so many genres. It's just like music, right? Stand-up is,
- 2:28Speaker 2: you know, there's storytellers.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Yeah, there's people who do the crowd work very well.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Oh, I kill that crowd work shit. Come on. Crowd
- 2:35Speaker 2: work is just part of the– that's our paintbrush.
- 2:38Speaker 1: But now there's people who just are known for that, right?
- 2:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, which is dope, which is dope. But, you know,
- 2:43Speaker 2: they're also comics, you know what I mean? Sure. They're
- 2:46Speaker 2: just using that part to promote, which is still dope.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I love it. I love seeing the crowd work, guys.
- 2:52Speaker 2: But that's our paintbrush, man. There's every comic. Everyone should
- 2:56Speaker 2: do it. Yeah, that's our skill set. That's like, he's
- 2:58Speaker 2: a DJ, but he also has a turntable. It's like, motherfucker,
- 3:01Speaker 2: no shit. Yeah, no shit. But yeah, but on top
- 3:05Speaker 2: of that, if you watch the stories, like I was
- 3:10Speaker 2: talking to my son, I was just like, god damn,
- 3:12Speaker 2: these are like, Like, my callbacks are crazy. You know
- 3:15Speaker 2: what I mean? Like, I kept calling back stuff. And just, like,
- 3:18Speaker 2: the way they're being set up and then the way
- 3:21Speaker 2: I'm trying to take you down this path. Because I
- 3:24Speaker 2: really was focusing on one particular thing on Blue in
- 3:26Speaker 2: the Face. And I was really, like, there was one
- 3:30Speaker 2: through line that I wanted. Because I did an hour
- 3:33Speaker 2: and 45 minutes on the special. I cut 50 minutes.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Yeah, because it's an hour long.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, so I cut it down to 55 minutes.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Because my whole idea of Blue in the Face was
- 3:42Speaker 2: the state of the times that we're in. And I
- 3:45Speaker 2: was kind of getting kind of sick of it. You
- 3:48Speaker 2: know what I mean? I feel like we've turned this
- 3:52Speaker 2: way to where people punch down and people read the
- 3:56Speaker 2: headlines without reading the story and make an opinion. And
- 4:02Speaker 2: I was just like, people like to celebrate losses and
- 4:07Speaker 2: not you know, celebrate wins. And I was just like,
- 4:09Speaker 2: you know what, let me do this thing where it's like,
- 4:11Speaker 2: let me just show you an example of who I am.
- 4:13Speaker 2: And before you make the opinion, listen to the story first.
- 4:17Speaker 2: You know, I started off with my teeth.
- 4:18Speaker 1: With your teeth, yeah, with your veneers.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Yeah, and I had to because, dude, it's like every
- 4:23Speaker 2: DM would be like, oh, look at it. He's laughing.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Look at those teeth. Oh, it must be nice to
- 4:28Speaker 2: be rich. Yeah, it wasn't nice when I fell on
- 4:30Speaker 2: my face and almost died.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Great story, by the way. And then the fact your
- 4:34Speaker 1: mom was like the deciding factor.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. It was crazy. But I'm glad I got
- 4:41Speaker 2: those stories out because then you see all these things.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Just like with sports. It's like, oh, I thought you
- 4:47Speaker 2: were from Seattle. No, you're a Dodgers fan. It's like. Hey, man,
- 4:50Speaker 2: there's a story. Right. Like, won't you listen before you
- 4:54Speaker 2: make an opinion? Right, right, right. Like, it's not hard. 100%. Like,
- 4:57Speaker 2: find out about somebody before you really pass judgment. You
- 5:00Speaker 2: know what I mean? It's like, yeah, my stepdad was
- 5:02Speaker 2: a huge Dodger fan.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:03Speaker 2: My first pitch at the game was with Fred and
- 5:07Speaker 2: my son. He was five at the time. So, yeah,
- 5:11Speaker 2: I'm a Seattle fan, but... Bro, this is my youth.
- 5:15Speaker 1: LA's also been your home.
- 5:17Speaker 2: My home. Yeah, 100%. Yeah. I got houses here. It's like,
- 5:20Speaker 2: of course. Yeah, of course Dodgers. But even just like
- 5:24Speaker 2: the sentimental part of it, like being able to take
- 5:26Speaker 2: Fred to that game before he died.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Which is crazy that it was the 18 inning game.
- 5:31Speaker 2: That's crazy, right? So crazy, man. But yeah, I was
- 5:37Speaker 2: so happy that you got to see the footage of
- 5:38Speaker 2: him at the end. Yeah. Cause even that people don't believe,
- 5:41Speaker 2: you know, for sure.
- 5:42Speaker 3: No.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Cause I mean, it's like, it's such a great story,
- 5:44Speaker 1: but for you, was it like how, how dope was
- 5:46Speaker 1: it for you to kind of pay? Because it all
- 5:51Speaker 1: ties together at the end, the name of the special
- 5:53Speaker 1: is in dedication to your stepdad. Yeah. How, how dope
- 5:56Speaker 1: was that for you to be able to kind of
- 5:57Speaker 1: like pay homage to him and his memory in a
- 5:59Speaker 1: special in that way?
- 6:01Speaker 2: It just sucks. Cause you know, you know, you remember
- 6:04Speaker 2: in the, in the beginning of the special where I said, uh,
- 6:08Speaker 2: When the girl goes, hey, do you want to know
- 6:10Speaker 2: what happened to me? And I'm like, no, bitch. Do
- 6:11Speaker 2: you want to know what the fuck happened to me? Like,
- 6:14Speaker 2: that's what Fred is. It's like, I got to do
- 6:18Speaker 2: this finally. But there's this thing that's happening at my
- 6:22Speaker 2: home that I could never get Fred to come to
- 6:25Speaker 2: my shows. Right. Because I'm dealing with some bullshit with
- 6:30Speaker 2: the family. You know what I mean? But I don't
- 6:32Speaker 2: need to talk about that. You know what I mean?
- 6:35Speaker 2: That's just family problems. I'm pretty sure you got an
- 6:37Speaker 2: aunt or an uncle or somebody that just fucking.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Oh, I do.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Right? We all have it. And it's just like, you know,
- 6:45Speaker 2: sometimes we don't want to talk about that. You know
- 6:48Speaker 2: what I mean? But I do like to laugh. So
- 6:51Speaker 2: it just sucked because he passed and he never got
- 6:54Speaker 2: to see that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And it just sucked.
- 6:57Speaker 2: But now I know he's up there like, you did that, Bubba.
- 7:00Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 7:01Speaker 1: 100%.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I get choked up a lot. So if you hear
- 7:04Speaker 2: me do that shit where I, it's because I get
- 7:07Speaker 2: choked up. I cry a lot. So don't make me
- 7:10Speaker 2: do that shit.
- 7:10Speaker 1: No, I don't want to make you cry. I thought
- 7:13Speaker 1: it was awesome. I have a lot of close friends
- 7:15Speaker 1: from Stockton and they're all Filipino. Yeah. but Stockton is
- 7:19Speaker 1: also one of the craziest places in America. So I was,
- 7:23Speaker 1: I didn't know you were in Stockton for the special
- 7:25Speaker 1: until it started. I was like, Oh, he did this,
- 7:27Speaker 1: but he did it in Stockton.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Why, why Stockton? Obviously it is a Filipino hub, but
- 7:32Speaker 1: it is also, I feel like an underrated city.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I didn't do it because it's a Filipino hub. Cause
- 7:37Speaker 2: we're past that. Yeah.
- 7:38Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 7:38Speaker 2: My career is past that.
- 7:39Speaker 1: It's a great city for like, if you've actually gone
- 7:43Speaker 1: and like had food there and shit, like it's a vibe.
- 7:45Speaker 2: But, but, um, You know what I mean? Like, that
- 7:49Speaker 2: whole thing of, like, you know, we tend to compartmentalize ourselves.
- 7:55Speaker 2: We tend to put ourselves in groups. And I don't
- 7:58Speaker 2: know why we're still doing that. But, like, people are like, oh,
- 8:01Speaker 2: I guess there's Filipinos there. It's like, nah, man. Like,
- 8:03Speaker 2: I sold out SoFi Stadium. Like, we're past that. Yeah,
- 8:07Speaker 2: you're past it for sure. And I don't know why.
- 8:09Speaker 2: You are an arena act nationally. Let's be clear. Yeah,
- 8:12Speaker 2: so it's like, I don't know when people say it.
- 8:14Speaker 2: I'm like, is this for you? Are you saying this
- 8:15Speaker 2: for some indirect racist shit inside you? Like, we're past that.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Stockton's still a random place to do a special, though.
- 8:22Speaker 2: But I'm going to, the reason why is, there's two
- 8:24Speaker 2: reasons why. I got a lot of friends there. They're B-Boys.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Style Elements crew is from Stockton. So I always had
- 8:32Speaker 2: an attachment with Stockton. And two, that's where the first
- 8:37Speaker 2: migrant workers from the Philippines stepped foot on and were killed. Wow.
- 8:42Speaker 2: You know what I mean? A lot of them were killed.
- 8:46Speaker 2: There was a lot of displacement. Little Manila first was
- 8:50Speaker 2: developed in Stockton. Yeah. So it's basically that is where
- 8:55Speaker 2: the whole Filipino movement started. My whole point of going
- 8:59Speaker 2: back was it was 100 years after that. It was
- 9:02Speaker 2: a hundred years since the killing.
- 9:04Speaker 1: A hundred years.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Yeah. And since, you know, where the restaurants used to say,
- 9:07Speaker 2: no Filipinos allowed and no Filipinos allowed to drink on
- 9:10Speaker 2: this water fountain and don't date our white women and
- 9:13Speaker 2: stay on the East side. Don't come to the West side.
- 9:15Speaker 2: And they built that, they built a bridge going through
- 9:19Speaker 2: little Manila just to displace them.
- 9:21Speaker 1: That's so crazy.
- 9:21Speaker 2: And, and so that's why I said in the beginning
- 9:24Speaker 2: of this special, like, I get it. Like we can,
- 9:28Speaker 2: we can dwell on the past, but, You know what
- 9:30Speaker 2: I mean? But do we really want to do that?
- 9:32Speaker 1: Right.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Or can we just concentrate on the good that's happening? Like,
- 9:35Speaker 2: I'm in Stockton. I got a big Filipino sun behind me.
- 9:38Speaker 2: For sure. And I got every color of the rainbow
- 9:40Speaker 2: out there. And it was so funny, because when I
- 9:42Speaker 2: first started the routine, when I first walked out, Kev, like, honestly,
- 9:46Speaker 2: I was going to talk about that shit. I was
- 9:48Speaker 2: literally going to talk about it.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Why do I think a lot of people know that?
- 9:50Speaker 1: I didn't know that about Stockton.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I was literally, I was about to just go
- 9:54Speaker 2: in on Stockton, right? And then I got that second ovation,
- 9:57Speaker 2: i go because i even set it up i go
- 9:59Speaker 2: a lot of people ask me why stockton right and
- 10:02Speaker 2: then it got this ovation they started standing and i
- 10:04Speaker 2: was literally gonna start talking about all that and find
- 10:07Speaker 2: a funny way to get out of it right right
- 10:08Speaker 2: right and then uh and then i saw this white
- 10:12Speaker 2: guy two white guys standing and just like just fucking
- 10:15Speaker 2: going ape shit And then hugging this one Asian guy
- 10:19Speaker 2: on his side. There was a black guy over here.
- 10:21Speaker 2: And in my head, that's where I made that shift.
- 10:24Speaker 2: And I'm like, nah, man. I'm not going to use
- 10:28Speaker 2: this special for that. We know what happened. And if
- 10:31Speaker 2: you don't know, I'll show you at the end. But
- 10:34Speaker 2: just know this. There's a Filipino on stage 100 years
- 10:37Speaker 2: later celebrating us right here. And I brought a million
- 10:42Speaker 2: dollars worth of cameras here. So let's just all act right.
- 10:45Speaker 1: You already know, baby, our family at odd socks. They
- 10:49Speaker 1: have been rocking with the bootleg head podcast since day one.
- 10:52Speaker 1: And listen, man, the basics have been killing it.
- 10:55Speaker 2: All right.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Whether you're into the ankle socks, the quarter socks, the
- 10:58Speaker 1: tube socks, black, white, whatever it is. Odd socks, basics.
- 11:01Speaker 1: These are the most comfortable socks that you will ever
- 11:03Speaker 1: put on your feet. And I've been saying that for
- 11:05Speaker 1: years and I mean, it's the only socks I wear.
- 11:08Speaker 1: The only socks in my house. And yeah, Obviously, there's
- 11:12Speaker 1: competing brands that you might be used to wearing the
- 11:15Speaker 1: white tube socks. Listen, not only are these better, they're
- 11:19Speaker 1: more affordable and they're more comfortable. And when I say
- 11:22Speaker 1: more affordable, I'm not playing. You could get yourself a
- 11:24Speaker 1: six pack just like this for only $ 16. 99. And the
- 11:28Speaker 1: good thing about Odd Socks, they now got the subscription
- 11:30Speaker 1: service too. So if you just want fresh, clean socks
- 11:33Speaker 1: delivered every single month, they'll take care of you there.

- 12:02Speaker 1: the promo code BOOTLAG. Save 20% off. Let's get back
- 12:04Speaker 1: into the interview. It's your sixth Netflix special, is that right?
- 12:07Speaker 2: That's my sixth one, yeah. Wow, dude.
- 12:08Speaker 1: That's got to be crazy because I feel like When
- 12:11Speaker 1: I first saw you doing like the Chelsea Handler show
- 12:13Speaker 1: back in the day.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:15Speaker 1: To now, it's like been kind of cool. Like when
- 12:17Speaker 1: I was doing radio physically in Tampa in 2014 and 15,
- 12:21Speaker 1: and I remember you came out and did the Mahaffey
- 12:24Speaker 1: Theater out there.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:26Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, this Joe Coy guy's like,
- 12:28Speaker 1: he's becoming a fucking thing.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Do you?
- 12:31Speaker 1: Because I feel like sometimes, man, like no matter what
- 12:33Speaker 1: level of success you're having, like when you're living in it.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:37Speaker 1: It's a little harder to kind of like appreciate how
- 12:39Speaker 1: far you've come and be present.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Are you able to ever like reflect and be like, damn,
- 12:44Speaker 1: this is my sixth special.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Yeah. Especially with Netflix. You know, I love Netflix so much.
- 12:51Speaker 2: But they made me work hard. Right. You know what
- 12:53Speaker 2: I mean? That first special, you know, I paid for
- 12:56Speaker 2: and did it all myself. They said no. And I
- 12:59Speaker 2: get it. You know, they're supposed to say no. They
- 13:01Speaker 2: don't know who I am. And so I went and
- 13:05Speaker 2: shot it myself and then I brought it to them.
- 13:07Speaker 2: And I'm glad I made that decision. A lot of
- 13:10Speaker 2: people would be like, no, I'm not. They said, no, well,
- 13:13Speaker 2: let me go get back on the grind again. Yeah,
- 13:16Speaker 2: I'm not ready. Yeah, no, man. Better yourself. Yeah, I
- 13:19Speaker 2: had the money. Let's go. My manager was investing. I'm like,
- 13:23Speaker 2: I got it. I'll pay you back somehow. Right, right, right.
- 13:25Speaker 1: I'll figure it out.
- 13:26Speaker 2: You know what I mean? We'll figure it out. And
- 13:27Speaker 2: then I'm glad I did. And now here we are,
- 13:30Speaker 2: six specials later. And it's just, I hate to brag, man.
- 13:34Speaker 2: It's crushing right now, man. It is.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I saw it was, I think it was number three
- 13:38Speaker 1: last night.
- 13:39Speaker 2: It was three last night. It was number two out
- 13:41Speaker 2: the gate. Stayed that way for like six days. And
- 13:44Speaker 2: then number eight in the world. It's like crazy, dude.
- 13:48Speaker 1: What is for you, because you have these like milestones
- 13:51Speaker 1: you keep checking off, whether it's the Netflix shit, whether
- 13:53Speaker 1: it's obviously you're a voice in a new cartoon for DreamWorks.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:58Speaker 1: But the SoFi thing.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:00Speaker 1: As a guy who's been in L.A. for how many
- 14:02Speaker 1: years have you been in L.A.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Now?
- 14:03Speaker 2: This is my 25th year.
- 14:05Speaker 1: To do so.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Half my life. To do where the Rams play. That's crazy.
- 14:09Speaker 1: You know, where Kanye did two nights in a row.
- 14:11Speaker 2: The weekend did three nights in a row. Right. That
- 14:13Speaker 2: was nuts. He was literally the week after. It was
- 14:16Speaker 2: insane to even be able to say that.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Right.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Like, that was, it was already crazy saying that the
- 14:22Speaker 2: Super Bowl was here. Like, that's, and it was, when
- 14:25Speaker 2: I walked into my green room, I made sure that,
- 14:28Speaker 2: you know, I told my manager, I don't want no
- 14:29Speaker 2: family back here. I don't want anyone back here right now.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Just me and my son. See, I get choked up.
- 14:36Speaker 2: It's crazy. But I went in there going, like when
- 14:40Speaker 2: the Rams were in the Super Bowl, did every player
- 14:44Speaker 2: have their family with them? No, they were concentrating on
- 14:47Speaker 2: winning the Super Bowl.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Well, this is my Super Bowl.
- 14:50Speaker 2: I can't mess this one up. I don't mind messing
- 14:54Speaker 2: the other shit up. Whatever it is out there, yeah,
- 14:56Speaker 2: that's what you're supposed to do as a comic. But
- 14:59Speaker 2: this one... where we put all our money into it. Like,
- 15:02Speaker 2: no one invested. We had no sponsors. Like, we paid
- 15:04Speaker 2: for those lights to be turned on. We paid for
- 15:06Speaker 2: all those speakers. We paid for everything. Like, we were
- 15:09Speaker 2: already in the hole when we put those tickets on sale.
- 15:12Speaker 2: We were already in debt.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Wow. So you and Fluffy just collaborated and said, hey,
- 15:16Speaker 1: we're going 50-50 on this. We're going to sell this
- 15:18Speaker 1: bitch out.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Yeah. And, you know, shout out to Fluffy because I
- 15:23Speaker 2: didn't want to do it. You know what I mean?
- 15:25Speaker 2: I told him we should do– A residency at the forum.
- 15:29Speaker 2: That's what I said to him. Because, you know, I
- 15:31Speaker 2: got six forums. I sold out six forums. So I'm like, bro,
- 15:34Speaker 2: imagine you and I.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll do 20 of those.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Bro, stay here. Let's just do a residency. Like that
- 15:40Speaker 2: was my idea in my head. And he's like, ah,
- 15:43Speaker 2: let's go over to SoFi. And I'm like, all right.
- 15:48Speaker 2: And we looked at the seat mat, Kev. We put
- 15:50Speaker 2: it on the wall. And it was the size of
- 15:52Speaker 2: like six forums. Right. It was crazy. The seating map.
- 15:56Speaker 2: And I was just looking at it. I go, I
- 15:58Speaker 2: go fluffy. Are you sure you want to do this?
- 16:00Speaker 2: Cause yeah, man, let's just try it. I'm like, I'm
- 16:02Speaker 2: with you, dude. I'm in it. I'm like, let's go.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Let's pull the trigger. And our math, our math in
- 16:09Speaker 2: our head is if we sell, uh, 40, I think
- 16:13Speaker 2: it was 40%. Don't quote me on the number, but
- 16:15Speaker 2: if we sold 40% of SoFi, we break even or 30%
- 16:20Speaker 2: of SoFi will break even. So we looked at it
- 16:22Speaker 2: that way because 30% of that is still like 20,
- 16:25Speaker 2: 30,000 people, right?
- 16:27Speaker 1: Yeah, but also, you know, I feel like you guys,
- 16:29Speaker 1: you've done six shows at the forum, right? So it's like,
- 16:33Speaker 1: you know, it's reasonable to say, hey, this is a
- 16:36Speaker 1: decent gamble.
- 16:37Speaker 2: The odds are.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Okay if we can do 30% break even.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Like even if we sell half, it's still going to
- 16:43Speaker 2: be a lot. So that was our main, that was
- 16:46Speaker 2: our thing. That was our motivation, right? And then I
- 16:49Speaker 2: told Fluffy, I go, look, the only way I'm going
- 16:51Speaker 2: to play this, because I saw Def Leppard there. And
- 16:57Speaker 2: they had the towers, right?
- 16:58Speaker 1: They had the one-armed drummer, right?
- 17:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, the one-armed drummer. And then, of course, Journey
- 17:02Speaker 2: was playing. And they got the towers. And I just
- 17:07Speaker 2: remember thinking to myself, man, I don't hear this. Like,
- 17:09Speaker 2: it's bouncing everywhere. And I told Fluff and the whole team,
- 17:13Speaker 2: I go... We need to buy speakers.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Yeah, how's everybody going to get the experience of a
- 17:18Speaker 1: comedy show in a football stadium?
- 17:20Speaker 2: And I was like, that 500-section balcony better have their
- 17:25Speaker 2: own speaker, or I don't want to play it. I'm
- 17:28Speaker 2: not doing that. I'm not going to charge them that price,
- 17:31Speaker 2: and then they're going to be like, can't hear. So
- 17:34Speaker 2: we had more speakers. SoFi gave us this information. They
- 17:38Speaker 2: said we were the heaviest concert ever. With the most
- 17:42Speaker 2: speakers in the house. We have more speakers than the U2.
- 17:45Speaker 2: We have more speakers than U2, bro.
- 17:46Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 17:47Speaker 2: And the only reason why is because that 500 section wraps, right?
- 17:51Speaker 2: And we literally had to give them all their own
- 17:55Speaker 2: dedicated speaker so they could hear. And bro, I swear
- 17:58Speaker 2: to God, we killed it. You didn't go, right?
- 18:00Speaker 1: No? No, I did not go, no.
- 18:02Speaker 2: It was like you were at a comedy club.
- 18:05Speaker 1: That's a hard thing to accomplish.
- 18:07Speaker 2: And Jamie Foxx said the same thing. Jamie Foxx was like, bro.
- 18:10Speaker 2: How did you make him feel so into it? He
- 18:13Speaker 2: couldn't believe it. He was like, dude, that felt like
- 18:15Speaker 2: we were in a comedy club.
- 18:17Speaker 1: You guys did what you did with your first special, right?
- 18:20Speaker 1: Bet on yourself.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Yeah, bet on yourself.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Shout out to Fluffy, man. You talked earlier about how today,
- 18:27Speaker 1: I feel like you said, we're in a punching down
- 18:29Speaker 1: culture and the negatives about people are kind of talked about.
- 18:32Speaker 1: And even the headline thing, me and my friends always
- 18:35Speaker 1: will send each other these tweets. Well, there'll be a
- 18:38Speaker 1: video in the tweet And then a quote that doesn't
- 18:40Speaker 1: exist in the video.
- 18:41Speaker 2: That's so crazy.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Have you seen that? There'll be like an entire, like
- 18:45Speaker 1: there was this random example. There was a Brad Pitt interview.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Where he was just talking about something he was doing.
- 18:52Speaker 1: And in the quote, in quotation marks on the tweet,
- 18:56Speaker 1: it was him talking shit about Angelina Jolie. But nobody
- 18:59Speaker 1: took the time to see that it was a fake quote.
- 19:03Speaker 1: And it had like three million views. I'm like, this
- 19:05Speaker 1: is the world to me.
- 19:07Speaker 2: It literally is the world we're living in. It's so lazy, man.
- 19:10Speaker 2: It is, man.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I'm curious because I feel like we've kind of seen this,
- 19:15Speaker 1: and I got to give love to guys like yourself
- 19:18Speaker 1: and Jessel Nick and Fluffy, who've done a really good
- 19:22Speaker 1: job of being edgy but very inclusive with comedy. And
- 19:28Speaker 1: I feel like during the Pandemic years, comedy got a
- 19:34Speaker 1: little dark. And there's comedy for everybody, right?
- 19:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:37Speaker 1: But for you, because we kind of hear there's this
- 19:42Speaker 1: right wing or I guess podcast corner where there are
- 19:47Speaker 1: guys like Joe Rogan and Kill Tony and all this shit.
- 19:50Speaker 1: And all that stuff is for somebody. But for you,
- 19:53Speaker 1: is it important to make sure you are not as
- 19:57Speaker 1: divisive with your content, with your material?
- 20:01Speaker 2: I think I am divisive. I'm a different tool in
- 20:04Speaker 2: the box.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Well, I mean, obviously, if someone is offended by a ghost...
- 20:08Speaker 1: fucking you in the mouth while you have a seat back.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't care about that person. Yeah, yeah. No,
- 20:12Speaker 2: I thought you meant, like, since there's a division, like,
- 20:15Speaker 2: certain comics like to steer right or steer left.
- 20:17Speaker 1: And it does feel like there is, like, a weird
- 20:19Speaker 1: division amongst comedy. There is. There's, like, there is a division.
- 20:21Speaker 2: And that's fine.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Like, but I never want to take away the right
- 20:25Speaker 2: for anyone to say anything in this country. Right. You
- 20:27Speaker 2: know what I mean? Like, uh-uh.
- 20:29Speaker 3: 100%.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Then we all move to China.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Yes.
- 20:31Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like, I don't want to
- 20:33Speaker 2: live like that. Right. So, I don't care. Like, I'm
- 20:35Speaker 2: not offended. Right. if that's what you want to say,
- 20:37Speaker 2: then say it. Like, I don't want anyone to be like,
- 20:40Speaker 2: Hey man, no, don't say ghost dick. That's offensive. And
- 20:44Speaker 2: it's like, no, you know, what's crazy is I did,
- 20:46Speaker 2: I did. And what I was trying to say about me,
- 20:48Speaker 2: it was like, like, yeah, they have like this, this,
- 20:51Speaker 2: this steer, right? Like, like whatever it is, there's a
- 20:54Speaker 2: right side, left side. But also I think my tool is,
- 20:58Speaker 2: is giving a voice to, to a demo that doesn't
- 21:02Speaker 2: have a voice. Yeah. You know what I mean? And
- 21:04Speaker 2: you finally get to hear our side. Right. Through a
- 21:06Speaker 2: comedic lens. For sure. But as long as you can
- 21:08Speaker 2: just hear a little bit of our story and laugh
- 21:11Speaker 2: a little, then you realize, oh, fuck, we're relatable. Like,
- 21:14Speaker 2: why are we separating ourselves? I always say this on stage, Kev.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Broke has no race.
- 21:19Speaker 1: They make us argue about race and all this other
- 21:22Speaker 1: shit so we don't argue about the classes.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Yeah, man. For real.
- 21:25Speaker 1: It's a class war. It's not a race war.
- 21:27Speaker 2: It is. Yeah.
- 21:27Speaker 1: It's not an identity policy. It's all class shit, man.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Yeah, man. And you know who's loving it.
- 21:32Speaker 1: 100%.
- 21:33Speaker 2: You know who's loving it. They're sitting right there on
- 21:35Speaker 2: their high chairs and just looking down at us.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Yes.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Just fighting.
- 21:38Speaker 1: The wealth gap is increasing while we're fighting about shit
- 21:41Speaker 1: that don't matter.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. And they don't give a shit. It's crazy.
- 21:44Speaker 2: We just keep dying.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Do you think your CPAP joke is one of the, like.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Greatest.
- 21:49Speaker 1: It's one of the greatest. Bro. All-time joke.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Bro, I love that joke. It's my favorite. You know
- 21:55Speaker 2: how many CPAP machines I've signed? Like, ResMed needs to
- 21:59Speaker 2: give me a deal.
- 22:00Speaker 1: That's hilarious.
- 22:01Speaker 2: It's crazy. Like, there's not... I love that joke, man.
- 22:05Speaker 2: It's one of my favorites.
- 22:06Speaker 1: It's so good.
- 22:06Speaker 2: It's so good. It's so fucking good. You know what's
- 22:10Speaker 2: crazy about that joke is I did it on Comedy Central.
- 22:13Speaker 2: I did a different version of it on Comedy Central
- 22:15Speaker 2: before my Forum special, right? And I remember when I
- 22:20Speaker 2: did Comedy Central, I put that joke on there. It
- 22:24Speaker 2: was a different version. It was my mom telling me
- 22:26Speaker 2: that I was dying and that I needed a machine.
- 22:29Speaker 2: And that was a joke. That's how I went into CPAP.
- 22:32Speaker 2: And Comedy Central buried that special, which pissed me off.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Like they aired it one fucking time And then they
- 22:40Speaker 2: just shelved it. And I would call them every day.
- 22:42Speaker 2: I'm like, hey, are you guys going to play it again?
- 22:45Speaker 1: Put it on YouTube, something?
- 22:47Speaker 2: They wouldn't put it on anything.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Wow.
- 22:49Speaker 2: I was like, what the fuck, dude? And then I
- 22:51Speaker 2: offered to buy it back. They only paid me $ 118, 000
- 22:53Speaker 2: for that special, dude. I was like, I'll give you
- 22:55Speaker 2: half a million. Give it to me.
- 22:57Speaker 1: So they aired it and shelved it?
- 22:59Speaker 2: Shelved it. It was crazy. And then what pissed me off,
- 23:02Speaker 2: and I kept telling them, I was like, and they
- 23:04Speaker 2: buried the other one, too, Don't Make Him Angry, which
- 23:07Speaker 2: that one had a killer joke. One of my favorite
- 23:09Speaker 2: jokes is on that one. It's called God's Gift, where
- 23:12Speaker 2: God makes the vagina. Bro, I fucking love that joke.
- 23:16Speaker 2: And I was so mad because no one got to
- 23:18Speaker 2: see it. I'm like, what are you doing? Play that
- 23:21Speaker 2: fucking bit, bro. So literally, it wasn't until 15, 16
- 23:27Speaker 2: years later when whatever, Instagram or whatever took off. Something
- 23:33Speaker 2: took off. I don't know what took off. Anyway, I
- 23:36Speaker 2: started cutting them up. And posting them. And now the– oh,
- 23:40Speaker 2: TikTok really blew up Vagina. The Vagina bit from Don't
- 23:45Speaker 2: Make Him Angry. It hit like 80 million on TikTok.
- 23:49Speaker 2: And I'm just like– and everyone's like doing voice dubs
- 23:52Speaker 2: on it. And I was just like, bro, this shit
- 23:54Speaker 2: came out 15 years ago, like 16 years ago. Like
- 23:57Speaker 2: what did you– like that's the kind of shit, the
- 23:59Speaker 2: struggle I had to deal with. in this business it's
- 24:02Speaker 2: like what is going on right who's in power right
- 24:06Speaker 2: you know i mean so thank.
- 24:07Speaker 1: God for netflix shout out to netflix.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Yeah for real bro really they like ted truly loves
- 24:13Speaker 2: comedy like he loves stand-up and and over everyone over
- 24:16Speaker 2: there joanne and and uh robbie prawn everybody you know
- 24:19Speaker 2: they love it man.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Tell me uh for you obviously your son has been
- 24:24Speaker 1: as much of a part of your journey especially to
- 24:27Speaker 1: your fans yeah like we've like watched him grow up
- 24:29Speaker 1: yeah you know what i mean yeah yeah um how
- 24:32Speaker 1: cool is it to be able to because you guys
- 24:34Speaker 1: have the not a podcast together how cool is it
- 24:37Speaker 1: to do the podcast thing with your kid and like
- 24:39Speaker 1: i love it and now he's pretty kind of like
- 24:41Speaker 1: if you're a joe coy fan you know your son.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Yeah so he's i'm sure popular bro he's.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Popping at the shows.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Yeah yeah oh they love him man he takes just
- 24:49Speaker 2: as many pictures it's so funny But I love it
- 24:52Speaker 2: because his one thing that he said that he can't
- 24:54Speaker 2: stand is when it's like a tabloid style pod.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Okay.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Like, oh, did you see what happened to Moe? And
- 25:05Speaker 2: then they just discuss... Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what
- 25:08Speaker 2: I mean? It's just like, what are we doing right now?
- 25:10Speaker 2: You guys are all 50, bro. Yeah. And you're talking
- 25:14Speaker 2: like my aunts used to talk. This is aunt gossip
- 25:18Speaker 2: right now. For sure. There's things we can talk. We're talking.
- 25:22Speaker 2: We're just shooting the shit. You can talk, bro. Anyway,
- 25:25Speaker 2: my son doesn't like that. And he was just like, Dad,
- 25:27Speaker 2: as long as we just sound like we're in the car,
- 25:31Speaker 2: then I'll do it with you. But it's so funny.
- 25:33Speaker 2: I have footage, too. I'll send it to you, Kev.
- 25:35Speaker 2: It's so fucking funny. Because I'll bring up a topic. Like, say, like, fucking,
- 25:40Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Something good to do.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Something good to do. And I'll bring it up. And
- 25:45Speaker 2: my son will be like, hey, man, I'm good, Dad.
- 25:48Speaker 1: He'll be like, yo, next.
- 25:51Speaker 2: He's like, yo, I'm not feeling this shit, Dad. And
- 25:54Speaker 2: then he'll move it. And I'm like, all right, fuck.
- 25:55Speaker 2: And I'll stop.
- 25:56Speaker 1: It is intoxicating to get wrapped up in some of
- 25:59Speaker 1: that stuff.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:00Speaker 1: It's kind of like a. You know, everyone has their...
- 26:03Speaker 1: Some people like watching Love Island. I don't get it. Yeah.
- 26:06Speaker 1: You know, but that shit, like the shit that I'm
- 26:09Speaker 1: into right now is watching DJ Vlad reply to people
- 26:13Speaker 1: on his YouTube channel.
- 26:14Speaker 2: That's so.
- 26:15Speaker 1: He's at war with like Noriega and Aries Spears at
- 26:17Speaker 1: the same time.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Dude, it's so crazy. And he's doing it with a
- 26:20Speaker 2: Gucci short set.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Yeah. He's got the crazy designer, the gold chain.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Looking in the camera. Yeah. The Gucci shoe that's not
- 26:27Speaker 2: matching the Gucci outfit. I love him, dude.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Dude, it's so entertaining. I just, it is wildly, it
- 26:33Speaker 1: is like, it is, I told my son, because my
- 26:35Speaker 1: son is always like, yo, like he'll ask me if
- 26:38Speaker 1: I seen certain shit. He's like, yo, did you see that?
- 26:41Speaker 1: This Vlad guy's beefing with this comedian. I was like, son,
- 26:43Speaker 1: when I drove to Vegas Friday, I watched an hour
- 26:46Speaker 1: and 45 minutes of them screaming at each other.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:50Speaker 1: I know everything that's going on.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Dude, Vlad is a trip, dude. But, you know, more
- 26:54Speaker 2: power to him. Bro, look what he's done, man.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Built a lot.
- 26:58Speaker 2: It's crazy, yeah.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Talk to me, man, for you. I'm sure when you're
- 27:05Speaker 1: a comedian, it's probably not... It's almost like a lot
- 27:08Speaker 1: harder if you are... an artist making music like to
- 27:12Speaker 1: kind of pay attention to what's going on but are
- 27:13Speaker 1: there any comedians who have caught your attention who you
- 27:16Speaker 1: kind of just look to for inspiration or who you
- 27:18Speaker 1: are just a fan of that have come after.
- 27:20Speaker 2: You oh come after me oh my god dude there's
- 27:24Speaker 2: so many right now that are just like they need
- 27:27Speaker 2: so much shine right now bro um man i could
- 27:31Speaker 2: man i can give you a list man uh paris
- 27:34Speaker 2: sachet she's amazing uh tara conestrosi is just fucking killing
- 27:39Speaker 2: it italian Mateo Lane, Nicky Paris, Lulu Gonzalez. Fucking beast, bro.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Alfred Kayenge. He's a beast out of... Oh, God, what's
- 27:55Speaker 2: it called? What's it called in Africa? It starts with
- 27:57Speaker 2: the letter N.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Nigeria?
- 28:01Speaker 2: Yeah, he's Nigerian. He's Nigerian, yeah. He's a beast, man.
- 28:06Speaker 2: There's so many more, man. I got to pull up
- 28:07Speaker 2: my phone.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Are you still... When you need to work out new shit,
- 28:11Speaker 1: will you still hit the comedy?
- 28:12Speaker 2: Always. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:13Speaker 1: What's your go-to spot here?
- 28:15Speaker 2: Laugh Factory. If I want to play Hollywood, I'll just
- 28:18Speaker 2: go up. Yeah. And then, like, if I want to
- 28:23Speaker 2: play the improv, I go outside. I don't mind Hollywood improv.
- 28:27Speaker 2: I love it. It's a great room. But I can
- 28:32Speaker 2: go to Brea and get 600 people in there, like.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Like day of.
- 28:35Speaker 2: On a day, yeah.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Yeah, like four hour notice.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:38Speaker 1: By the way, Joe Coy's coming tonight, guys.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Happy Tuesday. That's why going, I always tell people like,
- 28:45Speaker 1: you know, whenever people come to LA to visit and
- 28:47Speaker 1: they're like, well, where should we go? Yeah. I'm like,
- 28:50Speaker 1: just go to any comedy club.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Go to any comedy club.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Because you never know who you're going to see. Yup.
- 28:54Speaker 2: And you don't know who's going to be sitting in
- 28:55Speaker 2: the audience either.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Yeah, like I've sat next to Quentin Tarantino at the store. Obviously,
- 29:01Speaker 1: he had a booth, but I was like right there.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:03Speaker 1: And I was like, he was by himself and.
- 29:05Speaker 3: Then martin lawrence came out oh yeah that's my guy
- 29:07Speaker 3: and i'm like that's my guy right there what the
- 29:10Speaker 3: fuck yeah man going on yep no it's yep i'm
- 29:13Speaker 3: glad you said his name because you know we have
- 29:15Speaker 3: a thing together we're doing a show together you and martin.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Uh yeah hold on i want there's another one i
- 29:21Speaker 2: want to uh uh yeah brisha webb do you know
- 29:25Speaker 2: brisha webb bro watch her hulu special she's a killer
- 29:28Speaker 2: so that's another one and i feel like a lot
- 29:31Speaker 2: of women especially the women that I just shouted out,
- 29:36Speaker 2: they need some shine, man. It's a heavily male-dominated... 100%.
- 29:42Speaker 2: And there's some women out there that are killers, bro.
- 29:45Speaker 2: They're killers. The ones I just named are killers. So
- 29:49Speaker 2: watch them. Brisha Webb, Lulu Gonzalez, Tara Conestrasi, and Paris Sachet.
- 29:56Speaker 1: I saw you on Shannon talking about how you... have
- 30:00Speaker 1: such a great relationship with your ex-wife yeah which by
- 30:03Speaker 1: the way is very admirable oh thank you was what
- 30:06Speaker 1: was like because i feel like it takes two like
- 30:10Speaker 1: grown-ups to kind of still have like a great relationship
- 30:12Speaker 1: after a divorce yeah was was like getting through that
- 30:16Speaker 1: because so many people go through divorces and on the
- 30:19Speaker 1: other end of them they you know you kind of
- 30:20Speaker 1: see the divorced dad memes and all that yeah what
- 30:23Speaker 1: was your.
- 30:24Speaker 2: I hate seeing those Well, that's what I was going
- 30:26Speaker 2: to say.
- 30:26Speaker 1: It seems like you had like a probably, I mean,
- 30:28Speaker 1: obviously there probably is no pleasant divorce, but you know,
- 30:31Speaker 1: to still be friends with that person and still have
- 30:32Speaker 1: a relationship with them.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Was it, was it harder?
- 30:35Speaker 2: When I was a kid? Yeah. Yeah, man. That's why
- 30:38Speaker 2: I hate seeing those memes, man. Like. I don't know.
- 30:41Speaker 2: I feel like that's also a programming thing that happened
- 30:43Speaker 2: in this country. Yeah. It was celebrated. You know what
- 30:46Speaker 2: I mean? Like there's so much celebration about the divorce
- 30:49Speaker 2: and where's your dad at? And like, you know what
- 30:51Speaker 2: I mean? That bitch better try to get some money
- 30:53Speaker 2: from me. Like it was like a, a hacky thing
- 30:57Speaker 2: to say all the time and it was celebrated. And
- 30:59Speaker 2: I always hated it. Like, cause I come from a
- 31:02Speaker 2: divorced family and I, I hated that my dad moved
- 31:04Speaker 2: to Phoenix. You know what I mean? I hated that.
- 31:06Speaker 2: I didn't have a dude in the house and I
- 31:08Speaker 2: have this, You know, I have my brother who suffers
- 31:10Speaker 2: from mental illness and he's just causing chaos in the
- 31:15Speaker 2: house and there's no male figure, you know what I mean?
- 31:17Speaker 2: And we'd always have to call the cops, call the cops,
- 31:19Speaker 2: call the cops. And when my stepdad came to my life, Fred, like,
- 31:24Speaker 2: Now I got a goddamn X-Men in the goddamn house.
- 31:26Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 31:28Speaker 1: A real hero.
- 31:29Speaker 2: A real fucking hero.
- 31:30Speaker 1: An American hero lives with me now.
- 31:31Speaker 2: With awards. And wounds. And wounds. And he loved to
- 31:35Speaker 2: walk around the house with no shirt on. He loved
- 31:37Speaker 2: doing that shit. And man, when he manhandled my brother, bro,
- 31:40Speaker 2: I thought I was looking at Jesus, man. I was like,
- 31:43Speaker 2: oh my God, this is my God. He's my savior.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:46Speaker 2: I don't have to worry about Robert punching me or
- 31:48Speaker 2: us calling the cops. By the way, no shade on
- 31:52Speaker 2: my brother. I'm just being... completely transparent. You know what
- 31:55Speaker 2: I mean? Like I love my brother and he, and
- 31:56Speaker 2: he suffers from, you know, this mental problem that he has. And,
- 32:00Speaker 2: but you know what I mean? It was rough when
- 32:03Speaker 2: I was a kid and I hated that. And I, I,
- 32:06Speaker 2: I remember when Angie and I got a divorce, I
- 32:09Speaker 2: kind of took that route for a little bit. I
- 32:11Speaker 2: was taking that, you know, try and get something from,
- 32:14Speaker 2: I was working at Nordstrom rec, bro. I was like,
- 32:16Speaker 2: try and get half a nine bucks. And then, uh,
- 32:19Speaker 2: And then just something clicked, man. Like, what are you doing, dude? Like,
- 32:23Speaker 2: this is dumb. Like, bro, that's your son. What are
- 32:27Speaker 2: you fucking doing? You know what I mean? Like, she's
- 32:30Speaker 2: taking him to school. She's feeding him when you're not here.
- 32:32Speaker 2: When you're on the road, she's bathing him, washing him,
- 32:35Speaker 2: feeding him. What are you going to do? Are you
- 32:37Speaker 2: going to get a nanny and take the kid? Right.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Or are you going to have the best nanny, which
- 32:41Speaker 2: is his mom, and just take care of her? And
- 32:43Speaker 2: just make it beautiful and hang out with all, when
- 32:47Speaker 2: you go out with your son, take her.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Yeah, not make it weird.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Not make it weird.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Like there's not a child swap happening in a parking
- 32:53Speaker 1: lot of a Sears.
- 32:54Speaker 2: It's so bizarre with a police officer watching, making sure
- 33:00Speaker 2: it's cordial. Like, dude, we're not doing that. I told
- 33:02Speaker 2: her that. And I didn't even have that much money
- 33:04Speaker 2: at that point, but I promised her. I said, when
- 33:07Speaker 2: I make it, I promise you, I will take care
- 33:09Speaker 2: of you. Like, just believe in me.
- 33:12Speaker 1: I'm sure your son appreciates your guys's.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Relationship oh he loves it dude because we still like
- 33:17Speaker 2: joke with each other like how we always were you
- 33:20Speaker 2: know i mean it's just it's not romantic that's dope
- 33:23Speaker 2: right right right but we're fucking the best parents man
- 33:26Speaker 2: i remember we we took him to uh uh you
- 33:28Speaker 2: know he went to a private school and you know
- 33:31Speaker 2: it was one of those catholic private schools so they
- 33:34Speaker 2: looked down on like uh divorce families they don't look
- 33:37Speaker 2: down on it but you can tell there's a little
- 33:39Speaker 2: of course oh and i guess your dad's not gonna
- 33:42Speaker 2: be at the like doing that kind of shit and
- 33:45Speaker 2: then he started playing basketball for a team kev and
- 33:49Speaker 2: then i i would see like this kid that has
- 33:53Speaker 2: parents that are still married but mom's up here and
- 33:57Speaker 2: dad's here and i've noticed it a few games and
- 34:00Speaker 2: i'm like i looked at angie i'm like aren't they
- 34:02Speaker 2: married You know what I mean?
- 34:04Speaker 1: They hate each other, though.
- 34:05Speaker 2: They fucking hate each other. But yet they're celebrated. And
- 34:08Speaker 2: here we are divorced. She's got her boyfriend with her.
- 34:12Speaker 2: You know what I mean? I got whoever I'm dating.
- 34:14Speaker 2: You know what I mean? And it's just like this.
- 34:17Speaker 2: We're the ones that are looked at as dysfunctional, but
- 34:21Speaker 2: we're the most functional family.
- 34:22Speaker 1: And the most mature.
- 34:23Speaker 2: And the most mature.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:25Speaker 2: And guess who was the happiest kid in that fucking place?
- 34:27Speaker 2: My son. Right. You know what I mean? So, yeah,
- 34:30Speaker 2: I had to make that work, man. And. And yeah,
- 34:33Speaker 2: like when I said that to Shay, that was so
- 34:36Speaker 2: funny when I go, I just bought her a house.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Like I bought her that house like five years ago.
- 34:40Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 34:41Speaker 1: Yo, what's your favorite Jordan of all time? Because you
- 34:43Speaker 1: are a Jordan head.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Yeah. By the way, I am OG. Like anyone that
- 34:47Speaker 2: stopped coming up to me going, oh, I hear you're
- 34:50Speaker 2: kind of like a shoe head. I'm sick of these
- 34:52Speaker 2: young kids. These little fuckers that are like 17 going, oh,
- 34:55Speaker 2: I hear you like shoes. I'm like, bitch. Yeah. You
- 34:58Speaker 2: don't even know what we went through. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 35:00Speaker 1: For sure.
- 35:01Speaker 2: You don't even know what we went through. There were
- 35:02Speaker 2: lines down the street, man. I had to pay people
- 35:05Speaker 2: to wait in line.
- 35:05Speaker 1: I love how now all the Jays are just like
- 35:08Speaker 1: in stock. Yeah.
- 35:09Speaker 2: They're just in stock.
- 35:10Speaker 1: Cause I actually like to wear shoes. So I'm like, Oh,
- 35:12Speaker 1: this is great. I don't have to worry about people
- 35:13Speaker 1: with bots.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Yeah. You don't know how long I wore my size
- 35:16Speaker 2: nine and a half when I was truly a 10
- 35:18Speaker 2: and a half. I outgrew my shoe. Cause they weren't
- 35:21Speaker 2: like making them again. Um, but yeah, all my specials,
- 35:24Speaker 2: if you go all the way back to my, my.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Half hour specials on in this one, you've got three, fours, threes.
- 35:30Speaker 2: On the Brooklyn, uh, uh, the, the off white Presto's
- 35:34Speaker 2: in my coming in, uh, uh, coming in hot Hawaii special,
- 35:39Speaker 2: my forum special. I was wearing, uh, Jordan's threes, right?
- 35:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Jordan threes. Uh, hold on. I'm almost there. Uh, Oh,
- 35:53Speaker 2: I was wearing ones, gold and black, black and gold
- 35:56Speaker 2: ones in my first night live from Seattle. And then
- 36:02Speaker 2: lights out, I was wearing bread 11s. And that was
- 36:05Speaker 2: 20 years ago.
- 36:06Speaker 1: That's a great shoe. I mean, it's a great shoe today,
- 36:09Speaker 1: but 20 years ago.
- 36:09Speaker 2: And that was the bread 11s that came in the
- 36:11Speaker 2: double box.
- 36:11Speaker 1: The double box.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Yeah, man. And then my first special, I was wearing
- 36:18Speaker 2: Olympic 1s. And then my half-hour special, I was wearing
- 36:24Speaker 2: flip threes. Wow. Come on, man.
- 36:26Speaker 1: What is your goat J, though? What's your favorite silhouette?
- 36:32Speaker 2: I think the grail is the bread threes.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm a three.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Bread threes.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Black cement threes is my favorite Jordan.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Oh, there. That's it.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Black cement threes.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Yeah, the bread threes and then the cement fours.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Threes and fours that's that's my shit threes fours and
- 36:47Speaker 1: then you know then i like 11s i like i
- 36:50Speaker 1: like some ones but i'm.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Threes or fours yeah it's threes or fours my first
- 36:54Speaker 2: pair ever that i bought with my money was uh
- 36:57Speaker 2: the the what is it the north carolina fours yeah
- 37:02Speaker 2: yeah i put those on layaway athletes when i was.
- 37:04Speaker 1: A kid there was a store called just for feet
- 37:06Speaker 1: yeah phoenix.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Yeah they had that in vegas and i worked at
- 37:09Speaker 2: it yeah that we had a basketball court yeah i
- 37:11Speaker 2: don't know if Yeah, that's where I broke my thumb.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I used to go in there. I used to
- 37:15Speaker 1: be the ghetto kid that would just be at the
- 37:17Speaker 1: mall all day and I'd be at Jesper Feet shooting hoops,
- 37:19Speaker 1: but I got a pair of Jordan 10s there for
- 37:22Speaker 1: like 20 bucks on sale or some shit.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Yeah, they did that at Jesper Feet. Shout out to
- 37:27Speaker 2: Jesper Feet.
- 37:30Speaker 1: What a place. You already know Arizona, man. The Bootleg
- 37:32Speaker 1: Head Podcast brought to you by our partners at Raffi
- 37:35Speaker 1: Law Group. Now, we love Raffi Law Group, man. Arizona's
- 37:38Speaker 1: premier personal injury firm. What I love about Raffi is
- 37:41Speaker 1: they're so dependable, so trustworthy, and they get the job done.
- 37:44Speaker 1: They've helped over 70,000 Arizonans. I know you see the
- 37:48Speaker 1: billboards everywhere. I know you can't avoid seeing my man
- 37:52Speaker 1: Rafi's face everywhere, but it's because he is the absolute best,
- 37:55Speaker 1: all right? He's helped my wife get through an accident situation,
- 37:58Speaker 1: got her paid. My mother-in-law, same situation. My best friend's
- 38:02Speaker 1: parents just used Rafi and got a big payday. So
- 38:06Speaker 1: make sure if you get into an accident, if you
- 38:08Speaker 1: need help, all right? It could be an accident. It
- 38:10Speaker 1: could be a slip and fall. It could be any
- 38:12Speaker 1: personal injury situation. They're going to take care of it.
- 38:15Speaker 2: All right.
- 38:16Speaker 1: All you got to do is call Rafi. You know
- 38:17Speaker 1: what it is, man. Call Rafi. 623-388-4333. Rafi Law Group.
- 38:23Speaker 1: The only personal injury law firm that we will ever
- 38:26Speaker 1: rock with right here on the Blue Lake Head podcast.
- 38:29Speaker 1: So in this special, because I also, too, worked. I
- 38:31Speaker 1: actually had a job at McDonald's when I was 12. Yeah.
- 38:34Speaker 1: For like a month.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:37Speaker 1: And you talk about your McDonald's gig. In this special.
- 38:40Speaker 1: You were a kid. And it was kind of the
- 38:42Speaker 1: same deal where you could only work a certain.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Amount of hours.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Terrible job, by the way.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Yeah, the worst.
- 38:48Speaker 1: The absolute worst. Was the McDonald's gig your worst job
- 38:51Speaker 1: you've ever had or did you have anything worse? Because
- 38:52Speaker 1: you at least got to steal some chicken nuggets.
- 38:54Speaker 2: No, they were all horrible. That was the one I
- 38:57Speaker 2: got fired and my mom went back and tried to
- 38:59Speaker 2: get me a job. It was so funny. Thank you.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Thank you, man.
- 39:04Speaker 1: The fact your mom pulled up. On the way there,
- 39:07Speaker 1: I would have been like, Mom, I'm lying.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, man. That was the absolute worst
- 39:12Speaker 2: day of my life. And the fact that I didn't
- 39:14Speaker 2: ask my mom or didn't tell my mom while we
- 39:16Speaker 2: were driving there was just the stupidest thing I could
- 39:18Speaker 2: have possibly done.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I mean, by the way, I always say this about McDonald's.
- 39:22Speaker 1: There's a reason why they're number one.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:25Speaker 1: If you could eat McDonald's with no consequences, everybody would
- 39:29Speaker 1: have it because it's fucking fire.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Yeah. It's literally the only place. This is how stupid
- 39:35Speaker 2: humans are, right? It has been scientifically proven by certified
- 39:41Speaker 2: scientists that this shit is damn near a toy. Right.
- 39:46Speaker 2: They've proven it. They've proven that that bun is not
- 39:49Speaker 2: a bun. They've proven that cheese has got plastic in it.
- 39:52Speaker 1: The fries that fell between your seats do not have
- 39:55Speaker 1: mold on them two years later with the detail.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Three years later. You can actually dip it in ketchup
- 40:00Speaker 2: and eat it. It is damn near made by Mattel.
- 40:04Speaker 2: For sure. But for some reason, we still buy it
- 40:06Speaker 2: and eat it. And that's how stupid we are. So yeah,
- 40:09Speaker 2: kudos to McDonald's because they just put it out there
- 40:14Speaker 2: and they know they're going to win.
- 40:15Speaker 1: What would you be doing if you.
- 40:16Speaker 2: And by the way, I buy it.
- 40:18Speaker 1: I love McDonald's.
- 40:19Speaker 2: I eat a Mc... What is it called? The Filet-O-Fish?
- 40:21Speaker 1: Fish Filet.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Fish Filet.
- 40:22Speaker 1: You got to get the full slice of cheese.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Would I call it a McFish? Yeah, it's a Filet-O-Fish, right?
- 40:27Speaker 1: Filet-O-Fish, yeah, with the half slice of cheese. Yeah, yeah.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Are they skimming on the cheese?
- 40:30Speaker 2: I don't know, but it's perfect.
- 40:32Speaker 1: What would you be doing if you weren't doing what
- 40:34Speaker 1: you're doing now? If the stand-up thing didn't work out,
- 40:36Speaker 1: what could you have seen yourself in?
- 40:39Speaker 2: Directing.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Directing.
- 40:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I love directing. That's my favorite, hands down.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Talk to me about doing the voice work for this
- 40:46Speaker 1: new DreamWorks movie.
- 40:49Speaker 2: The new movie.
- 40:51Speaker 1: Forgotten Island.
- 40:51Speaker 2: It's called Forgotten Island. And, you know, that's led by her.
- 40:53Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Gabby's killing it. And she's
- 40:56Speaker 2: the lead. And she's crushing it. This is her movie.
- 41:00Speaker 2: You know, she's half Filipino. Yeah. Like me. And I just... Man,
- 41:05Speaker 2: shout out to DreamWorks, bro. Because... I feel like they've
- 41:09Speaker 2: always been campaigning for Filipinos, you know, all the way
- 41:13Speaker 2: back to Hook when Dante Bosco was Rufio. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:16Speaker 2: And that was always, like, when I saw him play
- 41:18Speaker 2: that character, I was just so, like, inspired by it. Like, wow,
- 41:21Speaker 2: this is amazing.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Such a great, great classic.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Yeah. Best Rufio ever, by the way. Yeah, man, hands down.
- 41:27Speaker 2: He killed that character. And then after that, mine, I
- 41:31Speaker 2: got Easter Sunday from Spielberg. He gave me that movie.
- 41:34Speaker 2: That's DreamWorks' first Filipino movie. cast ever by a major studio.
- 41:39Speaker 2: And then, and then this, it's just beautiful. Like there's
- 41:43Speaker 2: a lot of Filipinos and the stories about our Filipino folklores.
- 41:46Speaker 2: And it's just cool to be a voice of one
- 41:49Speaker 2: of them and just be a little part of it.
- 41:51Speaker 2: You know, I got a little scene in there, but
- 41:53Speaker 2: it's enough to be able to say, Hey, I'm in this,
- 41:55Speaker 2: you know, it's just.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Something I thought was dope. I thought it was cool
- 41:59Speaker 1: that David Spade and Theo Vaughn like funded their own movie.
- 42:03Speaker 1: I love that bus boys.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Would you ever, because I feel like we need a
- 42:09Speaker 1: movie with Joe Coy starring in it.
- 42:10Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:11Speaker 1: Would you ever, you talked about Love and Direct, would
- 42:13Speaker 1: you ever fund a movie or try to produce your
- 42:15Speaker 1: own movie?
- 42:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Well, you know I got Easter Sunday. That's
- 42:19Speaker 2: on Netflix right now, too.
- 42:20Speaker 1: Was that your production?
- 42:21Speaker 2: That was mine. Oh, I didn't realize that. That was
- 42:24Speaker 2: Spielberg produced it, yeah. But it's, yeah, that's my movie,
- 42:27Speaker 2: Easter Sunday, and I love that movie. But yeah, there's
- 42:31Speaker 2: so many other ideas I want, like, There's a TV
- 42:34Speaker 2: show idea that I want to produce, and I want
- 42:36Speaker 2: to self-produce it. And, yeah, we got things in the works,
- 42:40Speaker 2: but I can't really say anything right now.
- 42:42Speaker 1: Would you say– because I feel like there's always kind
- 42:47Speaker 1: of like contemporaries where if we think about Steph Curry
- 42:51Speaker 1: and LeBron or Kobe and, I guess, Shaq. Yeah. Is
- 42:57Speaker 1: Fluffy like your comedy– like soulmate if you will um.
- 43:04Speaker 2: I think my comedy soulmate is my son that's real
- 43:07Speaker 2: yeah yeah yeah he's very he's fast he's very funny
- 43:10Speaker 2: he'll tell me when it's not funny he's good.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Man does he want to do stand-up i don't know if.
- 43:15Speaker 2: He does it'll be amazing because he'll he'll crush it
- 43:18Speaker 2: you know i have that joke about the dogs where
- 43:20Speaker 2: i go who are you who are you who are
- 43:22Speaker 2: you who you're the dog uh You know, when someone
- 43:26Speaker 2: that they don't like comes to the house. It's true.
- 43:28Speaker 1: I think you... I forgot who you quoted, but they
- 43:30Speaker 1: had such a good quote.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Bill Murray.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Yeah, the Bill Murray quote about dogs.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. I don't trust a man that doesn't like
- 43:36Speaker 2: a dog, but I trust a dog that doesn't like
- 43:37Speaker 2: a man.
- 43:38Speaker 3: 100%.
- 43:38Speaker 2: 100%. And that, who are you? Who are you? I
- 43:41Speaker 2: used to go, who the fuck are you? Who the
- 43:44Speaker 2: fuck are you? I used to do that and make
- 43:45Speaker 2: the fuck sound like a bark. Who the fuck are you?
- 43:48Speaker 2: Who the fuck are you? Who the fuck are you?
- 43:50Speaker 2: And I would do it. And then my son... At
- 43:52Speaker 2: the end of the show, well, I was doing that
- 43:55Speaker 2: for like six months. And then before I shot my special,
- 43:59Speaker 2: my son pulled me to the side. He goes, hey, dad, like,
- 44:02Speaker 2: I don't think you need to say fuck, man. Like,
- 44:04Speaker 2: that joke is funny. Yeah. Like, just say who are you. Like,
- 44:08Speaker 2: if you say fuck, like, and then he even told me, like,
- 44:12Speaker 2: if you put it on Instagram, it's just going to
- 44:13Speaker 2: be bleeps. If Netflix puts it out, it's going to
- 44:17Speaker 2: be a bunch of bleeps. And he was right. Like,
- 44:19Speaker 2: I remember trying it for the first time without saying fuck.
- 44:23Speaker 2: And they were laughing. I'm like, I looked at my son.
- 44:25Speaker 2: I'm like, yo, thank you. Because that joke is so
- 44:28Speaker 2: much better, which is who are you?
- 44:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:30Speaker 2: Yeah. So I think I had to emphasize who are you?
- 44:34Speaker 1: It sounds like a bark still.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I made him sound like he was barking.
- 44:38Speaker 2: It's so funny. But that's Winston, by the way. That's
- 44:40Speaker 2: who I'm making fun of.
- 44:41Speaker 1: How many dogs do you have?
- 44:42Speaker 2: We got two. Two. Yeah.
- 44:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:44Speaker 1: And they're smaller dogs?
- 44:47Speaker 2: Winston's small. Kingston's one of those mid-sized dogs. I don't
- 44:50Speaker 2: know what Kingston is, by the way. He's something. He's
- 44:53Speaker 2: a mix of all kinds of shit.
- 44:55Speaker 1: I have two French Bulldogs and a Pomeranian, and the
- 44:58Speaker 1: Frenchies are because one of my best friends tried to
- 45:01Speaker 1: take advantage of the pandemic Frenchie boom.
- 45:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:05Speaker 1: And just got stuck with a bunch of puppies.
- 45:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Oh, so you have a bunch of doodles?
- 45:10Speaker 1: I have a fluffy Frenchie. Who doesn't look like he
- 45:14Speaker 1: should exist. And they're just their normal Frenchie. And then
- 45:16Speaker 1: I have just a Pomeranian little rat dog.
- 45:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Pomeranians are dope, though.
- 45:21Speaker 1: They're the shit.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Yeah, they're dope, man.
- 45:23Speaker 1: He's my wallpaper.
- 45:24Speaker 2: Yeah, they're dope, dude. Yeah, I love it, man. Actually,
- 45:28Speaker 2: it doesn't matter what kind of dog you have. I'll
- 45:30Speaker 2: be the first one to walk up and hug it.
- 45:32Speaker 2: They're just cute, man. If anyone should learn anything, learn
- 45:37Speaker 2: from a dog.
- 45:38Speaker 1: All right, we'll end the interview with some quick hits.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Who do you think is the best storyteller ever on stage?
- 45:43Speaker 2: Oh, my God, man. Man, that's a tough one. You know,
- 45:54Speaker 2: that's a tough one, man. Like, for my style, it
- 45:58Speaker 2: would be Richard. Okay. Because Richard was not scared to
- 46:02Speaker 2: really tell you the darkest stories.
- 46:07Speaker 1: A hundred percent.
- 46:07Speaker 2: That should have been in private.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Right.
- 46:10Speaker 2: And he didn't care. And I think that's what I
- 46:12Speaker 2: love the most. And it was like ahead of its time.
- 46:14Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like imagine living during that time.
- 46:18Speaker 2: And here's a testament to Richard. My son was like
- 46:21Speaker 2: watching stand-up on Netflix. And he was turning them off
- 46:24Speaker 2: after like 15 minutes, whatever. Like he was losing interest.
- 46:28Speaker 2: And there were some comics I was like, whoa, really, Joe?
- 46:30Speaker 2: Like that's one of my favorites. You know what I mean?
- 46:33Speaker 2: And then he got to Richard. And, man, he was
- 46:36Speaker 2: in it, bro. And I didn't even tell him about Richard.
- 46:40Speaker 2: And here's the thing. He goes, who's this guy? So
- 46:43Speaker 2: he didn't even know. He knew I liked Richard, but
- 46:47Speaker 2: he never had a face to Richard. Press play, and
- 46:50Speaker 2: he was in it. And he didn't ask that question
- 46:52Speaker 2: until after he pressed play. He's just, who's this guy?
- 46:54Speaker 2: Like the whole opening scene when, you know, it was
- 46:57Speaker 2: just chaos. They're just getting to their seats. And he
- 46:59Speaker 2: was just like riffing. And then him talking about the
- 47:02Speaker 2: dogs and all that. He was just like. yo, this
- 47:04Speaker 2: guy right here, dad. So yeah, if it's the complete
- 47:07Speaker 2: honesty when it comes to storytelling, it'll be richer.
- 47:12Speaker 1: Who's the hardest comedy you've ever had to follow? Comedian-wise.
- 47:16Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 47:19Speaker 1: Maybe you were watching from backstage and you were like, whoo,
- 47:21Speaker 1: this is going to be fun.
- 47:23Speaker 2: Man, I hate to brag. I'm not scared. Not even
- 47:28Speaker 2: being scared. I just always was like, I'll follow him.
- 47:32Speaker 2: And then when you go to the Laugh Factory... You know,
- 47:35Speaker 2: you had to, like, how many times did I get
- 47:37Speaker 2: bumped by Chris? Right. Chris would walk in all the
- 47:40Speaker 2: time and bump me. And I'm like, all right, yeah. 100%. Yes, sir. Yeah.
- 47:43Speaker 2: And he'd do, like, 80 minutes in front of me.
- 47:45Speaker 2: And then I'd still have to go up. Like, yes, sir.
- 47:50Speaker 2: But I will tell you this. I used to book
- 47:53Speaker 2: these shows in Vegas where I'd rent out these theaters.
- 47:56Speaker 2: I used to rent out these theaters. And I would
- 47:58Speaker 2: fly out comics that I met through BET's Comic View.
- 48:02Speaker 2: So I was on BET's Comic View. Yeah. So I
- 48:04Speaker 2: got all these friends.
- 48:05Speaker 1: I miss Comic View, man.
- 48:05Speaker 2: I miss it too. And I would fly them out
- 48:08Speaker 2: to Vegas and they would come, man, because I would
- 48:10Speaker 2: give them like 800 bucks.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Put them in a room.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Put them in a room, fly you out. They were like,
- 48:15Speaker 2: it's a gig one night. Man, Michael Blackson, bro. Michael Blackson,
- 48:22Speaker 2: I flew out when he was wearing the dashiki. This
- 48:25Speaker 2: is before what he is now.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Right, right, right, right.
- 48:27Speaker 2: He would wear the dashiki and the hat. He's a
- 48:29Speaker 2: mother sucker. He would do all that and Bro, I
- 48:32Speaker 2: had to follow that one night. It was my night.
- 48:35Speaker 2: And everyone that's in this room knows me. Right, right, right, right.
- 48:38Speaker 2: So I'm following my... That was a tough one. And
- 48:42Speaker 2: then same time, I think it was like 98 or 97, 1997, J.B. Smooth, bro. Oh, fuck.
- 48:50Speaker 1: I'd love to see him get this second win too.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Bro, I have footage of that. I have the raw
- 48:58Speaker 2: footage on a mini-DV. I have it. I told JB,
- 49:02Speaker 2: I go, you know, I got that footage, man. It's nice, too.
- 49:05Speaker 2: It's one camera, but, bro, it's explosive. And, like, I
- 49:09Speaker 2: had to follow that. That's when he was doing Stagecoach.
- 49:11Speaker 2: You know what I mean? And it was a DMX song.
- 49:15Speaker 1: His Larry David run on Curb is just all time.
- 49:18Speaker 2: This is before Curb.
- 49:19Speaker 1: No, I know. I'm saying the second win, I think
- 49:22Speaker 1: that the Curb thing, and I don't know, did you
- 49:23Speaker 1: watch Larry David's re-imagination of history? And then he had J.B.
- 49:30Speaker 1: Smoove come to his house. So Larry David has a
- 49:33Speaker 1: new HBO show that Obama produced, and he's retelling historical stories.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Through his lens. And so Larry David is a safe
- 49:44Speaker 1: house for slaves on the Underground Railroad.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Oh, shit.
- 49:47Speaker 1: And the slave that shows up to his house that
- 49:49Speaker 1: he's supposed to help is J.B.
- 49:51Speaker 2: Smoove. Oh, that's so good.
- 49:52Speaker 1: And then he never leaves.
- 49:54Speaker 2: Oh, I got to watch that. That's so good. Oh,
- 49:56Speaker 2: that's so funny. So it's just a callback to the show.
- 50:02Speaker 2: I'll tell you now, Larry. Dude, I love J.B., but
- 50:05Speaker 2: I have that footage, and it's amazing. And I... Some
- 50:09Speaker 2: stupid reason I wanted to follow him that night. So
- 50:12Speaker 2: that would probably be the hardest one I ever had
- 50:14Speaker 2: to follow.
- 50:15Speaker 1: What about, obviously there's so many cities that you probably
- 50:19Speaker 1: love to perform in. Is there a particular city or
- 50:21Speaker 1: a particular show that stands out as like just your
- 50:23Speaker 1: favorite ever?
- 50:28Speaker 2: I mean, I'd be lying if I didn't say the Forum. Yeah.
- 50:31Speaker 2: It's the greatest. It's the greatest.
- 50:35Speaker 1: It's still such a great venue, too.
- 50:37Speaker 2: Yeah, for music and comedy. It's the greatest. And I
- 50:41Speaker 2: love playing there. There's just something special about it. Whenever you,
- 50:44Speaker 2: like you said earlier, what's to do in Hollywood is
- 50:48Speaker 2: to go to any comedy club.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Just go to a comedy club.
- 50:50Speaker 2: Yeah. Literally, the Forum, every time I've been to any show... Yeah,
- 50:57Speaker 2: whatever's going on at the forum, go. Whatever's going at
- 50:58Speaker 2: the forum, go.
- 50:59Speaker 1: Because it's a vibe.
- 51:00Speaker 2: It's going to be a vibe, and someone that you
- 51:04Speaker 2: probably really like is going to walk up on that stage.
- 51:06Speaker 1: I saw Tame Impala there, and I was shroomed the
- 51:09Speaker 1: fuck out, and it was the coolest. I felt like
- 51:12Speaker 1: I needed a seatbelt. Yeah, yeah. It was so good.
- 51:15Speaker 2: Really? Love the forum, man. That's dope.
- 51:17Speaker 1: All right, so look. Blue in the Face is out.
- 51:20Speaker 1: It's on Netflix.
- 51:20Speaker 2: Yes.
- 51:21Speaker 1: It is your favorite special you've done?
- 51:23Speaker 2: Hands down, man.
- 51:25Speaker 1: It is a very personal special.
- 51:27Speaker 2: I love it, yeah.
- 51:28Speaker 1: And it is great, man.
- 51:30Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 51:30Speaker 1: I want to know what you cut out, though.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it's so funny. There's a couple bits in there.
- 51:37Speaker 1: There's another 45 minutes?
- 51:38Speaker 2: There's about 45 minutes, yeah.
- 51:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:40Speaker 2: It was crazy.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Well, I always wonder, like, give me your perspective on this, because, like,
- 51:44Speaker 1: obviously you're a touring act, or for a lot of
- 51:47Speaker 1: comedians that are traveling comedians, when a special comes out,
- 51:52Speaker 1: they had been performing a lot of that material right
- 51:54Speaker 1: on the road.
- 51:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:55Speaker 1: But once the special's out, are you still.
- 51:58Speaker 2: No, it's gone.
- 51:59Speaker 1: It's gone. It's all new shit moving forward.
- 52:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I played Caesars the weekend after. So it came
- 52:06Speaker 2: out on Tuesday, and then Caesars, I was at Saturday. Yeah,
- 52:10Speaker 2: it was already a new act. I didn't do anything.
- 52:13Speaker 1: It's almost like I feel like how rappers will drop
- 52:16Speaker 1: an album, and it's like, all right, well, I'm going
- 52:18Speaker 1: to the studio. It's all new shit now.
- 52:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 52:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I have to.
- 52:22Speaker 2: I can't repeat a joke. I don't even feel right
- 52:25Speaker 2: doing it.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Yeah, because you're kind of cheating. It's like, you've seen
- 52:28Speaker 1: this on TV already.
- 52:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and then my head is fucking with me because
- 52:32Speaker 2: I know they already know the punchline. So I already
- 52:35Speaker 2: know it's going to be a shitty ending. You know
- 52:38Speaker 2: what I mean? Like, I already know they're going to
- 52:40Speaker 2: be like, oh, okay. Like, I'm not going to get
- 52:42Speaker 2: the big applause that I normally get.
- 52:43Speaker 1: Yeah. I feel like there's a few guys who can
- 52:46Speaker 1: do the thing where it's like Andrew Dice Clay. Like,
- 52:48Speaker 1: you want to see Andrew Dice Clay do the Andrew
- 52:50Speaker 1: Dice Clay?
- 52:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 52:51Speaker 1: Or, you know, if I see Bert Kreischer, it's like,
- 52:52Speaker 1: do the machine story role.
- 52:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 52:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:56Speaker 2: I can't. I can't do any of the stories.
- 52:58Speaker 1: I get it, man.
- 52:58Speaker 2: Yeah. Once it's done, it's done.
- 53:00Speaker 1: Well, listen, go support the special. It is hilarious. It's definitely,
- 53:04Speaker 1: like you said, it came out swinging on Netflix. It's
- 53:06Speaker 1: top three, I think, right now.
- 53:07Speaker 2: It's still. It's crazy, man.
- 53:09Speaker 1: A week later.
- 53:09Speaker 2: That's crazy. Bro, it's almost 14. It's almost second week.
- 53:12Speaker 1: Second week.
- 53:13Speaker 2: It's almost. That's crazy.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Crazy.
- 53:15Speaker 2: Thank you for all the love. Of course, man.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Look, I appreciate you, man. You are one of the legends.
- 53:21Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 53:22Speaker 1: Salute to Joe Coy. Go support him, man. Thanks for
- 53:24Speaker 1: finally making it over here, man. Yes, sir.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Love you, bro.
- 53:27Speaker 1: Love you, too, bro. Let's get it. What up, y'all?
