- 0:00Aloha. Monday morning in Hawaiʻi — I'm Mele with what's happening today across the islands.
- 1:49Trade winds are moderate through Wednesday with typical early-week conditions — leeward shores stay mostly dry, windward slopes catch showers overnight and early morning. Strong winds and rough water through Tuesday afternoon mean small boats should stay docked. Humidity climbs noticeably Thursday, and Friday brings a real chance of thunderstorms over the Big Island's interior along with widespread showers everywhere. If you're planning beach time, Monday through Wednesday on the leeward side is your window.
- 2:15Surf is moderate on both Oʻahu shores — Waikiki and Waimea running 4.8 and 5.1 feet respectively, with shore break and rip currents worth respecting. Kauaʻi's Hanalei is large at 6.7 feet — experienced swimmers and surfers only. Maui and the Big Island are comfortable — Kāʻanapali at 3.4 feet and Hapuna glass-calm at 1.6 feet, safe for most swimmers and snorkelers.
- 2:33Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has several closures this week — the Kahuku Unit Roads, Kīpukapuaulu Trail due to hazardous trees, and the Lava Tube Bridge replacement. Kīlauea is under eruption alert, so the park is open otherwise, but stay out of cordoned areas and watch for volcanic ash on windy days.
- 2:48If you're hitting the water this week, our new piece on SUP yoga breaks down which bays and islands have real floating yoga classes and what to expect on your first time out. It's a solid way to spend a calm morning if you've got the balance for it — the early-week window on leeward shores is ideal.
- 3:03Humidity and showers pick up Thursday night, so plan indoor backup activities for the rest of the week. Check the site for what we're tracking this week.
- 3:11If you're heading to the leeward side today, grab our Oʻahu Essential guide. Catch you tomorrow.
