- 0:01There are. Places in this.
- 0:03World where history. And Nightmare blend so
- 0:06seamlessly that it becomes impossible to tell where one
- 0:10ends and the other begins. Uska Castle, hidden deep within
- 0:16the dense forests of the Czech countryside, is one such.
- 0:19Place built atop a desolate. Cliff in the 13th century, far
- 0:25from trade. Routes.
- 0:26Villages. Or any strategic importance.
- 0:29Its very existence raises more questions than it answers.
- 0:34Why would a king construct an immense fortress in the middle
- 0:38of nowhere? Why were its walls built?
- 0:41To guard the inside rather than protect against the outside.
- 0:45World. And why even now?
- 0:48Does the air feel so heavy? With unseen dread, locals have
- 0:54long whispered the answer. Huska.
- 0:57Was never meant to keep invaders out.
- 1:00It was meant to keep something else in beneath the castle's
- 1:06crumpling Chapel. Lies a dark.
- 1:09Ancient Chasm. A pit so deep.
- 1:12That no bottom has ever been found.
- 1:15A pit that once, according to legend, vomited forth
- 1:19nightmarish creatures onto the earth.
- 1:22It was said that the castle was built to seal a portal to hell
- 1:26itself. Trapping, whatever.
- 1:28Horrors clawed their way toward the world.
- 1:31Of the living, But stones and mortar are not perfect prisons.
- 1:36The darkness beneath. Huska Castle.
- 1:38Has never truly slept from blood chilling medieval legends.
- 1:43To the black rites of occultists.
- 1:46To modern day paranormal investigations.
- 1:49The story of Huska is a tapestry.
- 1:52Woven with. Fear death.
- 1:54And the unknown. It is a.
- 1:57Place where time. Falters where?
- 1:59Shadows seem thicker where unseen forces press against the
- 2:04veil of reality. This is not just.
- 2:07History. It is a descent.
- 2:10Welcome to Huska. Castle, the gateway to hell.
- 2:14Join me and my. Very special guest Peter Laws.
- 2:18From Into the Fog. As we explore this dark.
- 2:22And very creepy. Place.
- 2:24Please also make. Sure, you're subscribed to both
- 2:26of us. Because if you enjoy my work,
- 2:29I'm sure you'll enjoy. Peter's as.
- 2:31Well, and hopefully vice versa. Now let's get into the content
- 2:37Hoska. Or Huska.
- 2:38Castle stands deep in the forest north of Prague, built in the
- 2:43mid 13th century under the reign of Bohemian King Otakar the
- 2:48Second, who reigned from 12:53 to 1278.
- 2:54Historians. Debate its exact.
- 2:56Founding some believe Otakar the Second ordered its construction
- 3:00around the. 1260s while others argue that it was built shortly
- 3:05after his death. By nobleman Hynek or Henry of
- 3:09Duba in the 12. 80s the first. Written record of.
- 3:14Huska. Dates to 1291, noting a royal.
- 3:18Berghov posted there. Uniquely.
- 3:21Huska. Castle was not established as a
- 3:23typical medieval. Fortress or feudal seed?
- 3:27It was set in a remote swampy woodland far from trade routes
- 3:32on a rocky. Cliff in.
- 3:33The Sudetes Mountains at completion, it had no occupants
- 3:39and seemingly no. Practical purpose it.
- 3:42Lacked external fortifications, had no.
- 3:45Water source except. A rain cistern and even lacked a
- 3:49kitchen its defensive walls. Curiously faced.
- 3:53Inward toward its central courtyard, an anomaly that later
- 3:58fed dark speculation. About what the castle was built
- 4:02to. Contain In the late 1200s and
- 4:061300s, Huska came into the possession of the.
- 4:10Burka of Duba, aristocratic. Family Lord Hynek Burka and his
- 4:15sons held the castle through the 14th century, even expanding
- 4:20their domain, notably during the Huset.
- 4:23Wars. During the early 1400s.
- 4:27Huska saw little. Conflict or damage, its Lords
- 4:31remained neutral. And so the castle escaped the
- 4:34era. 'S widespread destruction over
- 4:37the 15th and 16th centuries, ownership passed among noble
- 4:42families and the. Structure received.
- 4:45Some Renaissance style. Updates.
- 4:47Between 1584 and 1590. However, Usko was.
- 4:53Never a bustling residence by the 1700s.
- 4:57It was largely. Abandoned a decaying.
- 5:00Relic overshadowed by? Grandeur Estates, a modest
- 5:06restoration in 1823, salvage the crumbling.
- 5:09Gothic architecture and later a. Wealthy aristocrat Princess
- 5:14Hohenlohe. Bought the castle.
- 5:17In 1897. In 1924.
- 5:21It was acquired by. Yosef Semenik, President.
- 5:25Of the Skoda. Works, who renovated it in 1929
- 5:30into 1930 and used it as a family retreat.
- 5:35Through all these centuries, Huska Castle remains strangely
- 5:39aloof from history's mainstream a quiet, brooding stone shell
- 5:45with an ominous reputation that. Far.
- 5:48Outweighed its modest role in politics or war.
- 5:53Local legend. Insists Huska Castle's true
- 5:56purpose. Was not defensive or
- 5:59administrative at all, but supernatural folklore dating
- 6:04back to its construction, claims the.
- 6:06Castle was built. To seal a yawning chasm in the
- 6:11bedrock. A bottomless.
- 6:13Pit that the locals believed was a gateway to hell itself.
- 6:20According to myth. Before the.
- 6:22Castle's foundation was laid. Villagers witnessed uncanny
- 6:26phenomena around. The rocky crevice.
- 6:30Winged creatures and half human monsters.
- 6:34Were said to crawl out of the gaping.
- 6:36Hole at night and strange beasts.
- 6:40Proud the woods. Leaving blood trails in their
- 6:44wake, the pit appeared endlessly deep.
- 6:48Attempts to fill it with rocks never reached a bottom.
- 6:52Terrified peasants whispered that dark demonic forces
- 6:56emanated from this crack in the earth that they often time
- 7:01heard. Whispers.
- 7:03Coming from it when the Crown decided.
- 7:06To build a. Castle on the spot Legend has it
- 7:09that condemned prisoners were recruited in the most horrifying
- 7:14way. Chronicles say that during
- 7:17construction, prisoners sentenced to death were.
- 7:19Offered a full. Pardon if they.
- 7:22Agreed to be lowered by rope. Into the dreaded hole and
- 7:26report. What lay below?
- 7:29The first volunteer, a young man, was lowered down as
- 7:33onlookers watched in tense silence.
- 7:37Within moments, he emitted a blood curdling scream.
- 7:42The workers hastily hauled. Him up and found the man in a
- 7:46state of utter madness in the few seconds underground.
- 7:52His hair had. Turned white and his skin
- 7:56wrinkled. As though he had aged decades.
- 8:00Raving about. Grotesque creatures.
- 8:03And unbearable darkness. He could hardly speak before.
- 8:08Collapsing. Some versions say he.
- 8:11Died a couple days later. Still in terror?
- 8:16Needless to say. No other prisoner volunteered to
- 8:19descend after that, and the gaping Hellmouth was swiftly.
- 8:24Covered over. Massive stone slabs.
- 8:27Were used to cap the pit. And Huska's Chapel.
- 8:31Was built directly above. That infernal opening.
- 8:34As a. Sacred seal, tellingly.
- 8:38The Chapel was dedicated to. Archangel Michael, the commander
- 8:42of Heaven's. Forces who cast.
- 8:44Down Lucifer, A fitting guardian to stand watch.
- 8:49Over a supposed gateway to hell. Many.
- 8:52Eerie tales grew. From this foundation it was said
- 8:56that once. Huska Castle's.
- 8:57Walls encased the pit. The nightly sightings of winged
- 9:01demons ceased, as if the evil had been trapped.
- 9:06Below, still ghosts. And unnatural creatures remained
- 9:11part of. Huska's lore a black.
- 9:14Robed monk spirit is rumored to roam near the Chapel, charged
- 9:19with ensuring the demons stay sealed in.
- 9:22Other reported apparitions include a giant bullfrog human
- 9:27hybrid hopping in the. Courtyard a headless horse.
- 9:31Trotting the castle, and even an old Crone who silently prowls.
- 9:38The corridors, locals. And nearby villages long.
- 9:42Avoided the castle. Believing only malevolent things
- 9:45dwelt there, some claim to hear inhuman screams or a furious
- 9:51scratching sound under the. Chapel floor.
- 9:55As if something underneath was desperately clawing at the
- 9:59stones in the 17th century during the.
- 10:03Chaotic 30 years war Husca acquired.
- 10:07A new dark tale A roving Swedish mercenary knight named Oronto
- 10:13allegedly took up residence in the abandoned castle, drawn by
- 10:18its sinister reputation. Oronti was said to practice
- 10:22black magic and alchemy within Huskis walls, attempting to
- 10:27harness infernal powers and concoct an elixir of eternal
- 10:32life. He conducted bizarre experiments
- 10:35at night, possibly trying to tap the dark energy of the sealed
- 10:40pit below. Oronto's Occult.
- 10:43Activities so terrified. The countryside that According
- 10:47to legend, 2 local hunters stormed the castle one night and
- 10:52assassinated him in his. Laboratory.
- 10:56Putting an end to whatever unholy rites he was conducting,
- 11:01Aronto's death did not. Dispel Huskas aura of dread.
- 11:05However, if anything, it reinforced the idea that only
- 11:10those with evil intent would dare dwell there.
- 11:15Another famous story emerged in the 19th century.
- 11:20In 1836, the renowned. Czech poet, Carol.
- 11:24Hynek Macha. Supposedly.
- 11:27Spent a night in Huska Castle which was then in ruins.
- 11:32Macha later. Wrote a letter.
- 11:33Describing A terrifying vision he experienced there, he dreamt.
- 11:39That he discovered a dark. Hole in.
- 11:41Huska's courtyard. And upon peering in, was
- 11:45suddenly transported into a strange realm.
- 11:49He found himself in the. City of Prague.
- 11:52But it was in the far. Future the poet.
- 11:55Wandered a Prague choked and smog filled with mechanized
- 12:01monstrosities of technology under a.
- 12:03Dark sky. In this nightmarish futuristic
- 12:07vision. So the story goes.
- 12:10A young girl approached and cryptically told him that he was
- 12:15in. A little hell.
- 12:17Of his own time, Macha then saw glowing lights and sandstone.
- 12:23Cliffs. Eerily.
- 12:25Resembling modern apartment blocks before awakening back in
- 12:30the castle, he was. Deeply disturbed.
- 12:33And strikingly Macha. Died shortly.
- 12:36After this incident. At the age.
- 12:39Of only 25. This tale.
- 12:42Has LED some to speculate that the gateway under Huska may not
- 12:47only lead to hell. But perhaps.
- 12:50To other dimensions or times offering fodder.
- 12:55For the. Castle's Mystique.
- 12:57As a place. Where the normal laws of reality
- 12:59fray over the centuries, Huska's sinister legends have.
- 13:04Persisted the chapel's faded facade.
- 13:08Fuels imagination. 114th century painting.
- 13:13Bizarrely depicts a. Centaur like female creature
- 13:17aiming a bow with her left hand and left-handed figures were
- 13:21often associated with the devil and medieval lore.
- 13:25This. Pagan image, among otherwise
- 13:27Christian murals of Saints and angels, is often pointed out as
- 13:32evidence of the castle's arcane purpose.
- 13:36An unresolved mystery on the. Chapel Wall.
- 13:40To this day, local folklore holds that Huska was.
- 13:43Built to keep something in and the bizarre myths of half animal
- 13:48demons, ageless prisoners, phantom monks and time twisting
- 13:54visions have made Huska one of Europe's most notorious
- 13:58supernatural sites. Despite its.
- 14:02Ghostly reputation. Huska.
- 14:04Castle mostly slumbered through the 1800s and early 1900s.
- 14:10As a private. Estate that changed with the
- 14:13outbreak. Of World War 2.
- 14:16After National Socialist Germany occupied Czechoslovakia in 1939,
- 14:22the German army, the Wehrmacht. Seized Huska.
- 14:26Castle and held it through the war until 1940. 5 because Huska
- 14:32had. No strategic military value.
- 14:35It's remote and not on transport routes.
- 14:38Its occupation immediately sparked rumors.
- 14:42Locals observed that the castle was heavily.
- 14:45Guarded by Nazi s s units and off limits, and they reported
- 14:50strange lights and noises emanating from it at night.
- 14:55Whispers spread. That the Nazis were conducting
- 14:58secret experiments inside. Huska's thick walls, perhaps?
- 15:03Delving into the. Occult lore of the gateway to
- 15:06Hell. Beneath the Chapel, some
- 15:10speculated that their scientists were trying to harness demonic
- 15:13powers or even reopen the pit to.
- 15:16Hell. In hopes of exploiting
- 15:19supernatural forces to win the war others.
- 15:23Believed the castle. Might have been.
- 15:25Used for esoteric research or. Developing paranormal weapons.
- 15:31These theories though. Fantastical resonated.
- 15:35Because the regime notably pursued.
- 15:37Occult artifacts. Like the Holy.
- 15:39Grail and Spear of Destiny and arcane research in various.
- 15:45Parts of Europe, specifically the Schuchstafel or the S s what
- 15:51was really? Happening at Huska during World
- 15:53War 2, Hard evidence is scarce and many records.
- 15:58Were lost or destroyed. But some documents.
- 16:01Have surfaced. In 1940.
- 16:04Three the. German Rs.
- 16:06HA or? Reichmane Security office
- 16:10converted. Huska Castle.
- 16:11Into a secret repository codenamed Bergen too, the castle
- 16:17became one of four sites in northern Bohemia.
- 16:20Used to store archives. And confiscated collections from
- 16:24Europe. Specifically truckloads of.
- 16:27Books and files removed from bomb threatened libraries in
- 16:32Berlin and Hamburg and stashed at Huska.
- 16:36Notably among these were volumes on Jewish mysticism and Masonic
- 16:41lore, materials the Nazis had seized, possibly including the.
- 16:46Cold texts. This fuels the idea that Huska's
- 16:50overseers. Were indeed pouring over.
- 16:53A cold literature. According to later testimonies
- 16:57and legend, some evidence was found after the war.
- 17:01Such as a cachet of old books. On the Black Arts reportedly
- 17:05left behind and even skeletons of German soldiers hidden under.
- 17:11Floors said. To have been executed by their
- 17:14own and ritualistic killings. It's hard to verify.
- 17:19Such claims, but they have become a part of Huska's haunted
- 17:23legacy. The notion that rituals.
- 17:27Took place. Under the National.
- 17:29Socialist flag locals. Noted that the Nazis mined the
- 17:33perimeter of the. Castle heavily.
- 17:35Which they interpret. As the.
- 17:37Occupiers wanting to protect something in Huska more than an
- 17:40ordinary site. Even as Allied victory drew
- 17:44near. When the Germans finally fled in
- 17:471945, they left behind an aura of mystery that only magnified.
- 17:53Huska's dark. Legend in the modern era.
- 17:57After World War 2, Huska Castle was.
- 18:00Returned to the Simon Eck family, but under Communist rule
- 18:04in Czechoslovakia. It was seized by the state.
- 18:08In the 1950s. The castle was repurposed as a.
- 18:11Repository once again, this time holding.
- 18:15Archives for Prague. 'S National Library.
- 18:19By the 1970s, a chemical company even planned to.
- 18:23Use Huska as a workers. Recreation Center or sanatorium?
- 18:28A strange fate, surely, for a place considered a portal to
- 18:31hell. That plan never fully
- 18:34materialized. But a curious.
- 18:37Event did occur in 1970. 4 the Czech.
- 18:41Underground rock band. The plastic.
- 18:44People of the Universe dissident artists managed to record a live
- 18:49album inside the Empty castle, taking advantage of the
- 18:52acoustics and seclusion the fact that a counterculture band.
- 18:57Sought out Huska. Only adds to its quirky modern
- 19:00history following the fall of communism in 1989.
- 19:05Husca was. Again given back to its rightful
- 19:08owners, the Simonic descendants, who then overtook restorations
- 19:14by 1999. The castle was.
- 19:17Open to the. Public.
- 19:18For the first time in its existence, Taurus now walk its
- 19:23courtyard and Chapel freely, but many swear that an oppressive
- 19:27atmosphere lingers indeed. Post war visitors.
- 19:32And staff have continued to report unearthly experiences,
- 19:38apparitions and uniforms, unexplained blood stains
- 19:42appearing and disappearing, and a pervasive feeling that unseen
- 19:48eyes are watching from dark corners.
- 19:51Even after surviving real world wars and decades of neglect,
- 19:57Huska's malevolent reputation has only grown stronger.
- 20:02In recent decades, Hoska Castle has become a magnet for
- 20:06paranormal investigators, researchers and thrill seekers.
- 20:10Drawn by its ghost stories. Television crews from around the
- 20:14world have descended upon Hoska to explore its gate to Hell law.
- 20:20In 2009, the American team from Ghost Hunters International
- 20:24filmed an episode on site. They documented the castle's
- 20:29creepy vaults and the Chapel. You'll find that in Season 2,
- 20:32Episode 3, titled Gates to Hell, the investigators experienced
- 20:38battery drains on their equipment and eerie audio
- 20:42recordings. One EVP that's electronic voice
- 20:46phenomena captured a guttural voice in an empty cell, and team
- 20:52members reported feeling sudden chills in the Chapel despite the
- 20:56summer heat, as mentioned in the episode.
- 21:00The following year in 2010, the UK's Most Haunted broadcast a
- 21:05live overnight investigation from Hosker.
- 21:08That crew also described disembodied footsteps and a
- 21:13phantom figure in black seen fleetingly on the Chapel stairs
- 21:20by 2013. A French paranormal series.
- 21:23RIP Rosacea Investigations Paranormal came to Hoska to
- 21:29probe the Hellgate legend. Each team left with intriguing,
- 21:34if inconclusive evidence and explained shadows on video,
- 21:38mysteriously moving objects, and audio anomalies.
- 21:44While skeptics might attribute these to the power of
- 21:47suggestion, even hardened investigators admitted Hoska
- 21:51gave them the creeps. More than most locations, local
- 21:56Czech researchers have also studied Hosker's hauntings.
- 22:01In 2014, a collaboration of Czech paranormal investigators
- 22:05conducted an extensive overnight vigil inside the castle.
- 22:10They had support from a Prague television crew, and they
- 22:14treated Hosker as Case 7 in their files.
- 22:18And during this research, multiple cameras and sensors
- 22:21were set up from dusk until dawn.
- 22:25The results were unsettling. 1 stationary camera was found
- 22:30inexplicably moved from its original position while no one
- 22:34was in the room. Loud bangs echoed in the Chapel
- 22:37around 3:00 AM, the so-called Devil's Hour.
- 22:42It woke a journalist who was sleeping there.
- 22:43As a test, investigators even found scratch marks on one team
- 22:48member's back the next morning, which he couldn't explain.
- 22:52Another reported a sudden burning pain in his chest in the
- 22:57middle of the night, and a red Welt appeared, only to vanish
- 23:01without a trace by the time they left the castle.
- 23:05Technical difficulties plagued the investigation as well.
- 23:10A full 14 hours of infrared video footage inexplicably
- 23:14corrupted on the storage drive, almost as if whatever lurks in
- 23:19Hosker did not want to be recorded.
- 23:23And yet the team did capture several clear Evps. 1 recording
- 23:27from the Chapel contained a deep voice speaking in what sounded
- 23:31like an archaic dialect of German or Latin, and the word
- 23:35seraph, meaning an angelic being, was discerned in the
- 23:40whispering mix. Such findings have only cemented
- 23:45Hoska's status among paranormal enthusiasts as one of the
- 23:49world's most active haunted sites.
- 23:53Visitors and staff continue to witness inexplicable phenomena.
- 23:59Castle guides have testified to seeing a faceless, dark figure
- 24:05in a monks robe gliding along the Chapel corridor.
- 24:09Presumably it's the legendary guardian in black keeping
- 24:13eternal watch. Tourists frequently feel dizzy
- 24:19or oppressed near the chapel's crypt, and some faint upon
- 24:23peering down the grated hole that legend calls the Bottomless
- 24:27Pit. In the courtyard.
- 24:30People have reported encounters with spectral animals, a giant
- 24:35black hound like beast that vanishes as one approaches it,
- 24:40and even flocks of dead birds found inexplicably strewn about
- 24:45after nights of stormy weather. Nearby woods are the scene of
- 24:50alleged sightings of hybrid creatures reminiscent of old
- 24:53myths. Half human, half dogs flitting
- 24:59between the trees at twilight. The sound of horses hooves echo
- 25:03on occasion, even though no horses have been at Hoska for
- 25:06decades, brings to mind the fabled headless horse.
- 25:11There are also modern reports of a ghostly woman in an old
- 25:15fashioned dress sobbing in the castle's green chamber and an
- 25:21apparition of a headless man in a blood stained shirt stumbling
- 25:26and near the gatehouse, possibly a victim of some forgotten
- 25:30mediaeval crime reenacting his death.
- 25:34Hosker Castle today capitalizes on its chilling legends.
- 25:38It hosts regular tours and even paranormal investigation nights.
- 25:43And yet, despite the crowds that now roam its once forbidden
- 25:48halls, many attest that when you find yourself alone in a corner
- 25:53of Hosker, an unsettling silence falls and the hair on your arms
- 26:00prickle. It's as if the castle remembers
- 26:04its ancient duty to stand God over an unspeakable darkness,
- 26:13and that memory permeates the stone.
- 26:16From its Gothic birth as a seal on hell, through centuries of
- 26:21ghost stories, to Nazi era mysteries and cutting edge ghost
- 26:26hunts, Hosker Castle offers an unparalleled tapestry of history
- 26:32and horror. It's chronicle interweave's
- 26:35verified facts with vivid folklore, providing rich
- 26:40inspiration for many supernatural tales.
- 26:44As one modern visitor put it, after a long midnight vigil
- 26:48within Hoska's castle, they said you leave this castle with the
- 26:52uneasy feeling that something followed you out.
- 26:56A sentiment that encapsulates why Hoska's legacy endures.
- 27:02Each era of Hoska's story, from medieval chronicles to modern
- 27:07ghost hunts, contributes a chapter to what is ultimately
- 27:10the enduring enigma of Hoska Castle, a place where history
- 27:16and the supernatural are inextricably entwined.
- 27:21Hoska. Castle stands still, brooding
- 27:24against the cold winds that sweep the Czech wilderness, a
- 27:29silent guardian. Or perhaps a silent.
- 27:34Jailer, it's ancient stones are weathered but unbroken.
- 27:39It's dark halls echo with. Centuries of whispered.
- 27:44Prayers desperate. Bargains and unseen.
- 27:48Footsteps that. Seem to trace the same doomed
- 27:51paths again and again. The bottomless pit beneath its
- 27:57Chapel remains sealed for now. Visitors come and go, some
- 28:03leaving with heavy hearts, some never able to explain the
- 28:08nightmares that follow them. Home equipment.
- 28:12Fails. Lights flicker, Voices whisper.
- 28:16In languages no human tongue has spoken in centuries, and always
- 28:24deep beneath the worn flags. Of the Chapel floor, something
- 28:28stirs it. Waits.
- 28:31Time has marched past Huska Castle.
