- 2:38it's Monday, which means it's Mayor Monday, and that means we welcome in
- 2:43a different mayors we do every Monday, and today we are definitely happy to
- 2:46have our good friend the Mayor of Clindin and Kate Summers and special guest via
- 2:51the Bigley Pigley Wiggly Hotline as Matt Paxton, who was the organizer for a
- 2:55five k that's the town of Clintena has planned as part of what they are
- 2:59calling their Lucky seven celebration. Happy to this Saturday and remembrance of the tragic
- 3:02flood. Of course, this struck the area back in twenty sixteen. Mayor
- 3:06Summers, good morning, how are you? Good morning? We're feeling great,
- 3:09great to me. Have you scooped way closer to that microphone if you
- 3:13would, all right? And they've also got Matt Paxton with us via the
- 3:16Piggy Wiggily hidline. How are you, Matt. I'm doing just fine this
- 3:21morning. Thank you, I thank you great to have both of you here.
- 3:24Matt. I'll get to you in a moment, but I want to
- 3:25start with the mayor. How you been, Mayor, We're doing well.
- 3:30Thank you very much, and thank you Dave for having us on today.
- 3:34As you said, June twenty third is the anniversary of the flood seven years
- 3:39ago, and so many people from this your listening area came up and helped
- 3:44us, and I want to say thank you to them because every day that's
- 3:47a reminder of how much help they have. And we have a lot more
- 3:51to go. We're going to get into that a little bit later on.
- 3:53I want to ask you though, before we get into what you got going
- 3:55on this weekend and the remembrance and with Matt as well, what's in the
- 4:00town of Clyndmon. Now, you've always got something new going on, some
- 4:02new businesses coming in or something. What do you got Let me tell you
- 4:05first of all, we had a jeep jam two weeks ago, was a
- 4:08big success. We have we're having movies on the street, which is wonderful
- 4:13for the kids and family. We had a big car show this past weekend
- 4:15andred Cars. The trail's bringing lots and lots of people and we're really excited
- 4:20about that from in state and Alla State, and they're bringing bicycles, strollers,
- 4:26wheelchairs and just walking and running. And we had the brewery that's doing
- 4:30well. And the different the different businesses are doing really well right now.
- 4:36That's good and we're gonna get into what we have going on this weekend.
- 4:39I've got a copy of the flyer by the way which lays out everything you
- 4:42folks have going on this weekend. It's posted now a Dave Allen Radio and
- 4:45Facebook and at Day A seventy on Twitter. But you got a lot of
- 4:48stuff going on for just one day, mayor you know what, we have
- 4:51a lot of things to cram in because we have a lot of things to
- 4:54be thankful for. And we're calling to Lucky seven because this is what we've
- 4:58worked to do. We have the stage, the Harper stage, and so
- 5:01all this is going to be on the Harper stage except the fireworks employers.
- 5:04Yes, of course they'll be out in the field. And as part of
- 5:08that, there's going to be a five K. Matt, Let's bring you
- 5:10in on this. Uh Um, talk about your background, how you get
- 5:14involved in this whole thing. Oh well, I am from Clindenon. I
- 5:17graduated from Hoover Um and I ran track there to high school track across country
- 5:23years ago. I helped them organize a lot of the five ks. I've
- 5:26still got a lot of family in town. Um. Pundonna Brewery is owned
- 5:29by a friend of mine. So I really when the flood hit, you
- 5:32know, I got down there and spent weeks down there trying to help out.
- 5:36And um when missus h when K said, you know, I'm going
- 5:42to you know, i'd like toast of five K, I was like,
- 5:44well, of course, but I like to do anything I can to help
- 5:46up a town. So that's how I got in with the organization I Track.
- 5:49I coach track across the country up here in Ohio right now and Chili
- 5:53in Chili Coathee, Ohio. And I organize a lot of five case for
- 5:56different organizations. We just did one for Hoover for a fundraiser for their across
- 6:00country team last year. But he also did the Bostomerathon too, did quite
- 6:04well? Was that yeah? Very good? How did you do in the
- 6:10Boston Arathon? Um? Well, this year, I'm flowing down a little
- 6:14bit. I'm forty eight this year. But this was about the twentieth time
- 6:16I've qualified. Okay, and I've run it five I've run it five times,
- 6:20UM, but I went uh. Last year, I was lucky enough
- 6:25to run for Team Hoyt UM, which is a big charity team UM,
- 6:29which was really nice because uh, mister Hoyt was the gentleman who pushes the
- 6:34fishty son in a wheelchair for many years UM at the and I actually he
- 6:40put me on the team there, so I got to I got to actually
- 6:44compete for their team. UM. But this year was a lot of fun.
- 6:46I took up a well. Last year I took up a few of
- 6:49my seniors and they got to see Boston, and none of them have ever
- 6:53been to the East Coast. And we saw in New York and we saw
- 6:55Boston. It was just a heckful lot of fun. But I was I
- 6:58think I was right around tent them. I think, Okay, well it's
- 7:01better. It's better than I did. Man, I'll say that. Can
- 7:05people still sign up for the five k for this weekend? Yes, m
- 7:10our registrations on tristate racer dot com. Go on the website. Um,
- 7:14they can up, pointing I'll be there by an art stort sou. They're
- 7:18welcome to sign up any time now. They sign up the rest of the
- 7:20day today, they'll get a shirt and they're not guaranteed a shirt unless they
- 7:24sign up today. Okay, let's tristate Racer dot com. Is that right?
- 7:30Yes? Okay? Uh? Mayor you're gonna have music throughout the day.
- 7:32Plus you got cornhole games of all kinds inflatables, lots of great food
- 7:36and vendors and fireworks at dark, as you mentioned earlier. Sounds like it's
- 7:40gonna be a pack dame, it really is. I would like to mention
- 7:43the music if you don't mind. Yeah, I'm starting eleven o'clock where we
- 7:46have Dave mccorkill. He's called Cornhole. His band's Cornhole. Then we have
- 7:50Golden and then we have a style show on the stage. Do you give
- 7:55a break? Then we have the Mark Miller Band. Then we're gonna have
- 7:58karaoke, see some of our own talent, and then we are going to
- 8:01have the Esquires. And we're really excited about the Esquires and they're going on
- 8:07stage at seven o'clock. And then, like you say, we have Cornhole.
- 8:11All the money that was raised goes to those folks one hundred percent and
- 8:16the registration for that is forty dollars a team, plus we're raising some more
- 8:20money to that, and then we're in a face painting at no charge.
- 8:24The Clinton Library is going to have a zoo, ating zoo and pony rides
- 8:28that starts eleven, and we have inflatables, lots of food and um street
- 8:35games for the kids too as well. I mean, it's just amazing everything
- 8:39that you're going to have. And again I have the flyer posted on Dave
- 8:41anand radio and Facebook and at Day seventy on Twitter if you want to see
- 8:45everything that's going on. Five of the live is brought to part by Generations
- 8:48Physical Therapy seven convenient locations along I sixty four and they're hiring from both LIGHTSNSE
- 8:52to technically trained staff. For more information to visit Generations PT dot com.
- 8:56Mayre and Matt two. Now, Matt, I'll bring you in on this.
- 8:58We'll go to the mayor first though. Matt, you're somebody who's from
- 9:01Clindenta, as you said, but you live up in the Chilly Coffee area
- 9:03now, but you come back here and you help with these things. You
- 9:05were there following helping with the cleanup back in twenty sixteen. Mayor, talk
- 9:11about this amazing community of Clendenon and everything the town and really the surrounding areas
- 9:16have gone through since that devastating flood in twenty sixteen. And Matt, I'll
- 9:20bring you in after the mayor go ahead. Seven years ago on June twenty
- 9:26third, twenty fourth, many many people came, and I'm gonna say from
- 9:28the whole Kenall Valley, West Virginia, different states came and helped, and
- 9:35the thing had helped me the most appreciate a lot of times you read about
- 9:39a flood and then you send money or you send a donation. In two
- 9:41days, you've forgotten about it. These folks did not forget about us,
- 9:46and like Matt said, he stayed for weeks. He lives in Ohio now,
- 9:48even though he is a hometown boy. It's a nice thing of all
- 9:52this. Herbert Hoover High School is opening this school year. It's gonna be
- 9:56a beautiful, first class school. It's gonna be great for academics, the
- 10:01sports, a band, the show choir. August eighteenth, were having our
- 10:05first scrimmage. Has everyone has heard that Brad Haisley's coming. It is not
- 10:09a concert. We want to make sure people realize that he may sing a
- 10:13couple of songs. You know. Here's the thing. Let me jump in
- 10:16here. I was at an event um last year that Brad Paisley was there,
- 10:20and it was actually a private event. It was a fundraiser type thing,
- 10:24and they kept saying, you know, when you buy a ticket,
- 10:26he's not going to perform, he's not going to Well, he got his
- 10:30guitar out and he did two songs. I'm not saying that's going to happen
- 10:31here, but I'm just saying anytime a performer has an opportunity to perform.
- 10:37They may he may grab a guitar for maybe maybe a little country roads or
- 10:41something. That's just saying. We can't tell Mike Kelly that I said this
- 10:43one radio secret, but I think Bradle's sing a couple of songs and coach
- 10:48Shoey Fields, which I think was nifty. He reached out to Brad Haisley
- 10:54UH School in Glendale and John Marshall, that's who were going on a scrimmage.
- 11:00I think ess will bring it all together because Brad Paisley dick On in
- 11:03June to visit and help support our area. And I can't thank him enough
- 11:09too. Matt. Let's go back to you. Let's talk about your memories
- 11:13of that time and the clean up and everything that even continues to this day.
- 11:18Well let's see. Well, I was in Richwood actually camping with a
- 11:22couple of my graduates and it started raining. I told my wife that I
- 11:26just came home for that that day day before and it started raining, and
- 11:31I told my wife, I said, it'll end up flooding if it keeps
- 11:35raining like this. So the next to day I said, they started the
- 11:37flood warnings came out and first I heard about Richwood, and then I started
- 11:41hearing about Clendon, and so we drove down. Well, I'll try to
- 11:45make the story as short as I can, but we couldn't get in.
- 11:48We ended up taking back roads to get into the town. We ended up
- 11:50coming in through dutch Ridge just to get to town, and the water was
- 11:54still over the bridge and stuff, and we stayed. I found my uncle,
- 11:58he had a house there in town, and we ended up helping clean
- 12:01it up for several days. Within forty eight hours, my kids at my
- 12:05school started. They found two trailers and they started loading trailers with relief,
- 12:11with things that people could use. And for like two weeks in a row,
- 12:15every day I would drive the chilkat off. They pick up the trailer,
- 12:18pull it down to pull it down, drop it off the contents,
- 12:22then come then all day work, then come back up to Chili coffee and
- 12:26took up the other trailer and drop off the empty We did that for two
- 12:28weeks right after the flood because the people here, with me being a school,
- 12:33they put it on our local stuff up here because a lot of people
- 12:37know me, and the people up here were super generous with helping out with
- 12:39my hometown because everybody I've coached, and I've coached for over twenty years up
- 12:43here was super, super generous, was trying to help out. We brought
- 12:48down groups of kids from my teams and from my former teams. But it
- 12:52was just it was amazing to see people come together try to help out.
- 12:56But man, it was just so just so hard to watch all the things
- 13:00that I saw that all the things I saw that here. But it looks
- 13:03like we're back together. He hey, man, why don't you talk about
- 13:07what it looks like today a little bit? That's why it's going. I
- 13:09said, It's so nice to see now. I mean, you've got especially
- 13:13with mayor, with the mayor there, she's been putting together so many so
- 13:16many active I mean, you've got to you've got all the runners. I've
- 13:20always I've run there my whole life. I mean I ran there in Clendenon
- 13:24every day after school for years. And to see other people getting pulled in
- 13:30with the trails, it's awesome to see, you know, the kayaking,
- 13:33to see the stalking trouts there in the stream every now and then, you
- 13:35know it, the businesses in town, you know, said we already mentioned
- 13:39Clinden and brewery, there's a there's just so many the paddlers. There's so
- 13:45many businesses that are coming in town now, and that's just a result of
- 13:48you've got a good group of people in there trying to really promote the town.
- 13:52And it's so nice to see because you know, I've always I've watched
- 13:54Clyndent and it's all the little kid and watched people leave town and it's nice
- 14:00to finally be seeing some new stuff and some stuff that we're looking forward.
- 14:03That gives you some hope that the town is going to be vibrant and the
- 14:07town is going to be the attraction that it can be, because I've always
- 14:09known it was awesome, but it never got the got the attention and got
- 14:13the development that it needed. Thank you very much, Matt, I really
- 14:16appreciate you saying that. And with a new elementary school too, Dave,
- 14:20I didn't mention that that should be ready, not this season, not this
- 14:24fall, but thanks fall and it's coming along and the views are beautiful.
- 14:26But again, we're just so excited about our schools, and you know what,
- 14:30more and more people are wanting to come back, yeah, and moving
- 14:33the community. So we're looking for houses we get calls every day. We're
- 14:35building a new senior apartment complex and people are wanting to do that, and
- 14:41there's just a lot a lot more things we have to do, though.
- 14:45Matt as an old Hoover guy, what's your take on the new school?
- 14:48I'm sure that you've had an opportunity to either take a look out and you've
- 14:52seen pictures, you read articles about it. Your take on the new school?
- 14:56Oh, my goodness, it's hadsolutely a amazing looking I've been up there
- 15:01on the on the grounds and I've seen a whole bunch of pictures. I'm
- 15:05so glad they're getting something nice for the kids up there. I mean it
- 15:07took them. I mean they were they were starting schools here in our neighboring
- 15:11district and they've had them done for three or four years, and it just
- 15:15took a long time to finally get it done. But man, those kids
- 15:18deserve that, and they're so nice. I mean, I'm a psychical teacher
- 15:20as well, so you know, I look at those pictures and I'm like,
- 15:24wow, this is this is a first class facility. It is it?
- 15:28Really to be so excited for those kids. Carrie hooda sack from a
- 15:33news team was one of a group of members of the media that had a
- 15:35opportunity to go up there and tour of the school a couple of weeks ago,
- 15:37and she and I were talking about it about how nice it was.
- 15:41You know, Clindenton is a remarkable place with an even more remarkable mayor and
- 15:46people just in the town in general. Because here's the thing about it,
- 15:48Mayor, and you know this, madam, sure it's probably no different for
- 15:52you in Chillacafee as well. We have elected officials in these towns. But
- 15:58if the public doesn't get behind what's going on, it doesn't matter what kind
- 16:02of grand or crazy ideas that mayors and council and county commissions whatever come up
- 16:07with. If you don't have the buy in from the people of not only
- 16:11the town with the surrounding areas, that doesn't work. And obviously it is
- 16:14working, Mayor, what you're doing in Clendenham, well, thank you,
- 16:15but it takes the whole l Kruver and and you mentioned the people, like
- 16:21the Canall County Commission has been fantastic to us. Like Matt said, it
- 16:26took us seven years to build a school. It took a long time.
- 16:29Other places it would have been faster, but it is worth waiting for.
- 16:32I just say, if I can't wait for you to come up and see
- 16:33it, I'm looking forward to it. All right. Now again, the
- 16:37complete list of everything going on this coming Saturday's posted on of course the town,
- 16:41social media whatever, but it's also if you want to go to mine.
- 16:42It's day down on radio and Facebook and at David seventy on Twitter.
- 16:45And by the way, Mayor, I gotta you know our texts come in
- 16:48here. We don't know who they're coming from. But this person signed their
- 16:51name and I don't think they would care for me. You mentioned it,
- 16:52says Kay is a gem an incredible mayor and a great friend, one of
- 16:56the best. Signed JB. Mccusky. JB. Mccusky, thank you very
- 17:00much. And he has been very very helpful to the town, to Clendon.
- 17:03He's been up to visit about five times. So thank you very much.
- 17:06All right, Matt, good luck with everything this weekend and uh and
- 17:10it should be a great day in Clyndenta and thanks for coming back to help
- 17:12out with this well, of course, of course it's gonna be a lot
- 17:15of fun. Now. Thanks some people to join us. All right,
- 17:18Matt, I appreciate it. Thanks, like mayor, always a pleasure to
- 17:21have you on the show as well. Take care and good luck with everything
- 17:23this weekend. Dave, thank you very much, and like I told you
- 17:26earlier, you're doing a great job. Your show's great to listen to,
- 17:30and you're doing this wonderful Thank you. Well, that's good though. I'll

- 21:10to the show, Tony Hodge, Vice chair of the State Republican Party.
- 21:12How are you? Man? Um Very well, Dave, coming off a
- 21:15great Father's Day weekend where my family treated me wonderfully and UH just had a
- 21:19great weekend, much better than you deserve. I'm sure better than I deserve.
- 21:22What exactly what's fathers they like in the Hodge family? Would you do
- 21:26well? First thing we did, we got up, went to church together
- 21:29as we do every Sunday, had a wonderful time there. I had a
- 21:32good fellowship with friends. And then we actually went to the pool and uh
- 21:37played in the pool with the kids, and then came home and had a
- 21:38cookout. And they gave me some gifts, a couple of books that I've
- 21:41been I got a book on aviation, got another book on teaching, and
- 21:47then I got a new hat and some homemade cards. As a as a
- 21:52guy, that's about all you could hope for. As a hat. You
- 21:55got a new hat, right, Yeah, and you are a pilot,
- 21:56so you're how long have you been fly? I know you just I mean
- 22:00this is like a I mean, you told me last time you were here
- 22:03that you've always had an interest in it, But how long have you actually
- 22:04been flying? Yeah? I started back in the COVID time period somewhere around
- 22:07in twenty twenty two, excuse me, twenty twenty and started up here at
- 22:11Hanger nine Aviation at UH Yeager Airport they have locations at Yeager and over in
- 22:17Huntington as well, and went through training up there. And the general aviation
- 22:21community is growing. It's it's uh growing by leaves and bad. What do
- 22:25you actually enjoy about it? What is it? Because I've talked to people
- 22:27that are pilots and they say that there's nothing like it, just that thrill
- 22:30or well, yeah, it's doing something not everybody can do, or what
- 22:33it's Well, it's it's freedom. It's freedom, It's it's looking, it's
- 22:37rising. It's like almost literally rising above everything you know it is yeah,
- 22:41And it's also it frees your mind because anytime you get an airplane and you
- 22:45have to focus on flying, you have to forget everything else around you.
- 22:49Everything else it has to get left behind because it takes a lot of skill,
- 22:52a lot of concentration. You can't play on your phone up there,
- 22:55you know, you don't play on your phone. You have to concentrate,
- 22:57you have to focus, and it really helps in that way, bringing in
- 23:00your focus, and it's just freeing. Just it's it's beautiful, it's beautiful,
- 23:04it's fun. Um. All those things put together just make it a
- 23:07wonderful experience. We've got a text to the show, uh so say,
- 23:11and I know you're a sports guy. Uh So it says, Hey,
- 23:14Dave, what's wrong with through reds? They're actually winning eight in a row.
- 23:17We won eight in a row, sometimes won eight games on a row.
- 23:19Can you believe that? Yeah? That's uh, that's that's amazing.
- 23:22I don't keep up with baseball quite as much. Yeah, of course.
- 23:25Right now, what's on my mind is college basketball. Yes, it's probably
- 23:29mine. I'm sure Hobby is going to talk about that when we might even
- 23:30talk about it, Yeah, where I'm gonna Yeah, of course, we're
- 23:33talking about the situation with coach Ubbob Huggins. Um. The news came out
- 23:37Friday night, you know, late Friday night, arrested for driving into the
- 23:41influence in Pittsburgh. Um. And of course the resignation happened shortly thereafter.
- 23:47And I know Tony that you are a huge Mountaineer fan. Um. Your
- 23:52thoughts on the whole situation, well, you know, it's uh, it's
- 23:55such an unfortunate situation. I was taking my boys this morning before I came
- 23:59into the stud video to drop him off. They're going to youth camp this
- 24:02week, and they were talking about it on our drive over there. And
- 24:04you know, for my sons or fifteen and twelve, Bob Huggins is the
- 24:08only basketball coach they've ever known at WV. That's wild to think about.
- 24:11It's wild. Yeah, it's the only guy they've ever known. And for
- 24:14them, it's it's just devastating, you know. And to see it through
- 24:18a child's eyes like that kind of brings a different perspective. Um. But
- 24:22as far as my own feelings, it is so unfortunate. I mean,
- 24:25I think back to all the years, all the great things that Bob Huggins
- 24:27is brought to w V basketball, and not just on the basketball court,
- 24:30but all the things that he does off the court. Of you I've seen
- 24:33it on Twitter now people are coming forward with He's helped in this he helped
- 24:37my mom with her cancer, you know, expenses, and it's just all
- 24:41these different stories that he did. It's just so wonderful. And then everybody
- 24:45remembers the image of him, you know, consoling DeShawn Butler when he tours
- 24:48Aco, when we were playing Duke in the Final four. I mean,
- 24:51just that fatherly light figure. He's done so many good things for young people
- 24:56in West Virginia and other places. But you know, alcohol abuse is a
- 25:02real I mean, it is a absolute it will. You know, I
- 25:06put on my social media that alcohol abuse will. It'll ruin your career,
- 25:10It'll ruin your family, and ultimately able to ruin your life. And abusing
- 25:14alcohol. You know. Another parallel is I just sat through a pretty high
- 25:18profile trial over in Putnam County this last week that kind of had our community
- 25:22buzzing. And no matter how you feel about that trial, everything about what
- 25:26was going on in that trial, the mishaps that happened or the different things
- 25:30happened, had to do with alcohol abuse. And then now we have this
- 25:33thing with Bob Huggins. It's alcohol abuse, and you know, I hope
- 25:37he gets the treatment. That he that he needs. I hope he realizes
- 25:40that it is a problem. I really feel bad for him. I admire
- 25:44him. I admire him as a leader, as a coach, as a
- 25:45West Virginian, all politics aside. You know, I'm a political personality,
- 25:49so I usually come on here and talk politics. We're gonna and we are
- 25:52going to do that. I don't even know where Bob Hougkins is on the
- 25:55political I don't know. I don't care. And that's one thing that I
- 25:57love about sports, especially W Marshall sports. You know, we can all
- 26:02come together. I could go and sit down, you know, with the
- 26:04game, maybe with my counterpart in the Democrat Party, and we could go
- 26:07and sit and enjoy that and have fun. Because I know he's a he's
- 26:11a big Mountaineer fan, as am I, and sports is something that brings
- 26:14something together. And this is something that we can all rally behind. We
- 26:15need a rally behind our team and our school and our state and uh and
- 26:19pray for coach Huggins and all the best of him. Yeah, I agree.
- 26:22And you know, I was talking to Mayor Summers before the show about
- 26:26this. And there are certain things, Tony that are bigger than sports.
- 26:30And I know, you know, when you're Bob Huggins and you're the highest
- 26:33paid state employee that there is, and I mean, he's an icon.
- 26:37And with the Beyheim retiring going into the season, he would have been coaching
- 26:41as the winningness coach active coaching college basketball. And now since Beaheim is retired,
- 26:45and and but there's more to it than that. And sometimes when these
- 26:52things happen, it just shows a pattern of a bigger problem, and it's
- 26:56decision making. I mean, the first thing that you saw with people talking
- 27:00about on social media and shows like this is, you know, you're the
- 27:03highest paid guy instead of West Virginia. Get a driver, you know,
- 27:07get a student, you know, a graduate assistant or something like that.
- 27:11And but it just goes to show it's it's a bigger problem when it comes
- 27:15to things like that as opposed to it's decision making that your decision making is
- 27:18obviously and it was the right decision. I mean, WVU had to cut
- 27:22ties with him. I mean, I agree with you the man's legend.
- 27:23I know everything that he's done, but they had to cut ties with him
- 27:26at this point. And when from this point on, you know, if
- 27:30he gets the help he needs. There's no reason why he couldn't be welcomed
- 27:33back into the fold a WVU. I mean, I don't think that this
- 27:37situation should define who he is. I don't think that's a situation from a
- 27:41couple of months ago should define who he is. He need, he needs
- 27:44to go and work on him, and he said that himself, you know,
- 27:47whatever that is, whether it's rehab or whatever. But then welcoming back
- 27:51into the program and not as a coach, necessarily, welcoming back as an
- 27:53ambassador, welcoming back to the broadcast booth or something. I mean, because
- 27:56he's still got a lot to give and this situation should not define who he
- 28:00is. That's just my opinion. Well, I agree with you, and
- 28:03really what you're saying to put very simply in one word, as you're talking
- 28:07about forgiveness, and I think that's something that that everybody deserves from their fellow
- 28:11man and from their fellow citizens, is uh, you know, help people.
- 28:15You know, substance abuse is a real thing, and this shows that
- 28:17it can affect anybody. It can affect the highest paid person in our state
- 28:19all the way down to the people out here walking on the streets in Charleston.
- 28:22It affects everybody that doesn't have any there's no social class when it comes
- 28:26to substance abuse, and we really have to recognize that. But you are
- 28:30right that we need to be graceful, and we don't really, we don't
- 28:34need We always talk about cancel culture and all this stuff. Be graceful before,
- 28:37be forgiving and offer people the help that they need. And man,
- 28:41let's just all band together and move forward, you know, go mountaineers.
- 28:45Indeed, twenty four minutes away from ten to five eighty Life President in part
- 28:48by Meek's Realty Group. Area's most beautiful properties deserve the finest Realtoris Meeks Realtory
- 28:53Group. Beast of my life. Meeks dot us are called three or four
- 28:56four four zero one one zero one that I see that you when State Democratic
- 29:00Party Chair and Dadley goat Mike Pushkin had a little dust up on Twitter,
- 29:03on the Twitter machine recently, you know, I'll live in his head written
- 29:07free. Yeah, I mean, I don't ever, I don't I don't
- 29:11ever go at Mike Pushkin on Twitter, but uh yeah, he likes to.
- 29:15He likes to come at me a little bit. And uh yeah,
- 29:17I mean, you know, he's he's Look, when you're a Democrat in
- 29:21this state, you're looking for any way you can find to be relevant.
- 29:23I get that. So you know he wants me to get on there and
- 29:26banter with him and maybe retweet him or talk to him or whatever. You
- 29:29gotta find ways to be relevant. I mean, look, we're we are
- 29:32whipping people left and right. A lot of people don't know we just have
- 29:34municipal elections. Well, I should say a lot of people don't know.
- 29:37A lot of people do know. It's just not getting talked about a whole
- 29:38lot. We just have municipal elections all across the state of West Virginia.
- 29:41Last time I was on this show, I mentioned Fayette County and how some
- 29:45of the municipal elections there were looking closely at those, and uh, Fat
- 29:49County has been a Democrat stronghold for a very, very long time. I'm
- 29:53happy to come on here and report that in Okill, the largest city of
- 29:56Fatt County, we pretty much swept the municipal there for the first time in
- 30:00anyone's memory that's alive. We have a Republican mayor there. Now, we
- 30:04got some of the good old boy cadre out of there some guys that have
- 30:10been on that city council in Okill for a long long time. They're gone.
- 30:12They're out. They all got voted out. And this is big news.
- 30:15I mean, this is this is, like I said, a Democrat
- 30:18stronghold for a very very long time, and we're sweeping them out. And
- 30:22so people like Mike Bushkin, you know, they I get it, like
- 30:25they need to find ways to be relevant. They need to get out here
- 30:27and rattle their cage a little bit so they're heard. But we're the ones
- 30:30running the show. Twenty three minutes. I can make that twenty two minutes
- 30:33away from ten. I'll say this and then we'll go to break. And
- 30:36I want to get into some other things with you. Tony Hodges here the
- 30:37advice share of the State Republican Party. Well, I've had other people like
- 30:41a Greg Thomas or suddenly like that on the show in the past. They've
- 30:45talked about a twenty twenty four how they're going to be focusing more on things
- 30:48similar to what you mentioned, like municipalities or county commissions or in Greg's case,
- 30:55courthouses. As far as court rooms, I should say, judges,
- 30:56and even though they're nonpartist, and it's not hard to figure out how they
- 31:02are registered to vote. It's public knowledge, and it's not also not hard
- 31:04to figure out how they stand on issues. You know, if you if
- 31:07you do a little research, you look at their campaign literature, you tend
- 31:11to meet the candidate form or you just contact them. I mean, you
- 31:14know, even though we're talking nonpartisan on school boards and courts and magistrates and
- 31:18things that nature, it's not hard to figure out how they stand. I've
- 31:22talked to Greg about this before about that's where their focus is going to be
- 31:26in twenty twenty four. Not that they're you know, taking anything for granted,
- 31:29but I mean, the next governor, said to West Virginia is going
- 31:30to be a Republican. You know, there's a there's a there's a strong
- 31:33field there. It's next governor will be a Republican. The next US Senator
- 31:38for the Joe Manchin seat will be a Republican. In my opinion, I
- 31:41could be wrong, I've been wrong before. Will be a Republican, will
- 31:45be a Republican. I don't see anything at all changing this red wave in
- 31:49the state. And I say that to say this that that seems to be
- 31:52where the Republican Party's focus maybe in twenty twenty four is on more local things,
- 31:59more more more judges, seats and things of that nature. Yeah,
- 32:02you're right. I mean, there's so there's strategy behind you know, everything
- 32:07that's going on. But of course we start at the top. You know,
- 32:08we're gonna get Joe Mansion out there, whether we beat him or retire
- 32:12him whatever, Republican will hold that seat. Um at the next election.
- 32:15I've come on here and said that before. It's gonna happen. So you
- 32:17know, Joe Mansion's gotta go, um, gotta get a Republican in there.
- 32:22But other than that, you know, we've got our governor's seat and
- 32:24we're gonna keep that Republican. We're gonna keep our legislature, legislature Republican.
- 32:30So you're right, h the focus is going to be on our circuit courts,
- 32:32on our local municipal elections, county elections all across the state. You
- 32:37know, it's not just what I do. I mean, we're the party
- 32:39apparatus, you know, but there's others out here, like you you mentioned
- 32:43Greg. You know, there's other operatives who have been out here working hard
- 32:45a lot longer than what I've been in the game, even they're very experienced.
- 32:49And it takes guys like him and guys like me, and then it
- 32:52takes all of our local committees and we put all of our manpower together and
- 32:57we're gonna make things happen. And if anyone wants to volunteer for the Republican
- 33:00Party, my whole mean Scholar office will be glad to get you plugged in,
- 33:04especially with the local stuff. We need local people on the ground who
- 33:07know the lay of the land. We need that help. And you know,
- 33:08if you if you want to be a part of that, will be

- 36:43You don't have courage, man, But ask him why he's so happy to
- 36:45support an adjudicated sex abuser. I'm assuming they're referned to Trump. They don't
- 36:52say who they're talking about. I have no idea. All right, let's
- 36:57go to Chris. You're on with Tony Hodge. Go ahead. Hey,
- 37:01guys doing this morning? Doing fine? Them? Sorry, how are you?
- 37:05I want to talk about the current trial of Donald Trump. Okay,
- 37:09you know, when I was a kid, it was unthought of to say
- 37:13that the American justice system had two separate lanes. And now on national TV,
- 37:20it's become apparent to everybody that our justice system has two separate lanes,
- 37:23one for the rich, the influential, and another one for everybody else.
- 37:30You know, anytime some young kid makes a mistake here on the left side
- 37:36Hill and they get hauled up to South Central Regional Jail, they have to
- 37:39get a mug shot and they go and handcuff. You know, if we're
- 37:46not going to have the same process for everybody, how dare we call our
- 37:51courtrooms fair? We're stilling a lie to our children. Tony Well, I
- 37:58mean, are you saying you need a picture of Donald Trump? He might
- 38:00be the most photographed man in the world over the last couple of years.
- 38:04I don't know, No, no, no, it's the part that he
- 38:06has to go through the process like everybody else done. That's what ensures that
- 38:10the system's supposed to be fair, is that we're all subject to the same
- 38:15process, and some of us aren't. And that just doesn't include Donald Trump.
- 38:21That includes Hillary Clinton, that includes Joe Biden, that includes other people
- 38:25that have been charged with these types of crimes in the past that didn't have
- 38:30to either bother with being prosecuted at all because they were well connected or were
- 38:37subjected to something that was less than the process is given to everybody else.
- 38:43You know, I don't know what the actual protocol is on that. I
- 38:45do know that prior, you know, when they were talking about over the
- 38:49weekend, prior to the Tuesday arraignment, that they said that Trump would not
- 38:52be fingerprinted or handcuffed because that's they generally don't do that in these sorts of
- 38:58cases. Now, I don't know that. That's just what some of the
- 39:00media pundits were saying over the weekend that generally in these types and that doesn't
- 39:05Please, don't read that as me try to, you know, lessen what
- 39:07he's accused of. I don't mean that. I'm just saying that they generally
- 39:09speaking, don't. I don't know why. I mean, I don't.
- 39:13I don't disagree with what you're saying, Chris. I just I don't know
- 39:15why that is. But I don't think that's the protocol. Maybe maybe it
- 39:20shouldn't be. Maybe you're right, Well, did he go point I'd like
- 39:23to make here, Yeah, go ahead, Okay. There are two particular
- 39:28groups right now. One's called Project sixty five and the other one's called the
- 39:31forty six group. These are large groups of attorneys that are basically engaging in
- 39:37racketeering to prevent other attorneys from coming forward to represent Donald Trump. Whether or
- 39:45not you think he's guilty. The guy needs a good lawyer. Why are
- 39:47other lawyers ganging up on lawyers to intimidate them out of represent a guy that
- 39:55really needs representation? You know, it gets back to the same principle that
- 40:00I started the call with. There's a rule for me, and there's a
- 40:04rule for me. That's not how our systems set up. We all want
- 40:08to stand up and salute the flag and sing the anthem and say America is
- 40:13the best country in the world. Where are we going to start acting like
- 40:15it and living up to our ideals instead a line to our kids and deceiving
- 40:21the public. All right, Chris, I do appreciate your phone call.
- 40:24Thanks a lot. Good. I mean, I don't disagree with some of
- 40:28the points that he made there, Tony, I'll be honest with you.
- 40:29I don't, Yeah, I'll be honest. I don't. I don't know.
- 40:31I assume that, um, former President Donald Trump had to go before
- 40:36a judge. I mean, that's kind of what I read people who listen
- 40:38to the show know that I don't watch television news, so I don't.
- 40:42I don't get my strictly radio right, a strictly radio and in the written
- 40:45word, even in here where you have a television on, and I don't,
- 40:49I don't pay attention to it. I just I haven't watched television.
- 40:51I watched Jerry Springer seven eight years. But Texas Trump is the adjudicated sex
- 40:55abuser. I had a feeling that's who they're referring to. Keep dodging the
- 40:59question. Church on Sunday with family values, then every other day promoting an
- 41:02adjudicated sex abuser. I'm definitely the morals and my church going and all that
- 41:10that takes precedent in my life. I don't. I can't ever recall a
- 41:14time that I've ever promoted or anything like that of a sex abuser. UM,
- 41:20I want to get your opinion on this one. And this is something
- 41:22that I've heard you talk about, and I've seen that you post on social
- 41:24media and things, and I don't want to put words in your mouth.
- 41:28You have voiced your displeasure and again, jump in if I'm saying something incorrect
- 41:34here. And some of the things going on as part of Pride. The
- 41:37June is Pride Month, there was a children's story time featuring drag queens held
- 41:44over the weekend. There was some there was it was held here in Charleston.
- 41:49There was some question as to whether that actually did have I did verify
- 41:52before the show that that actually did take place to talk to one of the
- 41:53organizers of the event, one of the folks, and they said that it
- 41:59was not a big deal. It wasn't very you know what ill ten did
- 42:01this part of that. There was one. It was like a fifteen minute
- 42:04type thing. They are a very pride events scheduled throughout the moth. Putnham
- 42:07County even has an event coming up, which kind of took me by surprise.
- 42:13Not but I'm four against. I'm just saying that just kind of I
- 42:15just wouldn't expect out of Putnham County. Your take on all this, well,
- 42:20you know, let me be very clear. First of all, whatever
- 42:23adults want to do with their private lives or whatever they want to celebrate,
- 42:29I mean that's fine. I mean, you know whatever, Just you know,
- 42:31if that's what you want to do, that's what you want to do.
- 42:34When you bring children into it, though, that's when because you said
- 42:37expressing displeasure, that's the part I would say, I would express displeasure about
- 42:42his children and the whole drag queen storytime. This is something new. I
- 42:45haven't really heard of this until, you know, maybe the last year or
- 42:49two. It's like this new phenomenon that's creeped up and I don't understand it.
- 42:53I don't understand what the outreach to children is what you know, what
- 42:57what's behind that? And only that? But are you reading to the children?
- 43:00I don't know. I mean, are they're reading, you know,
- 43:02about the Itty Bitsy Spider or what? What's the material here? I don't
- 43:07know because I've never attended one. Um, I would like to know.
- 43:09But now, I mean, you know, do what do whatever you want
- 43:12to do? I mean adults, you know, consenting adults. It's part
- 43:15of our our nation. You know, you have the freedom to do these
- 43:16things. Now is it healthy? Is it wise? In my opinion?
- 43:20No, you know, some people would call me a bigot for that,
- 43:22But um, I think that's crazy because they'll call me intolerant, They'll call
- 43:27me a bigot. But at the same time, when I say, well,
- 43:30what do you accept me for? Who I am. That's what me
- 43:31and Mike were talking about on Twitter. Would you do you say? He
- 43:35said that, he said that I should celebrate people for who they are,
- 43:38and I said, or and if I don't, I'm a bigot. And
- 43:39I said, well, Mike, that means that you have to celebrate me
- 43:43for who I am. Do you accept everything I do? And do you
- 43:45celebrate my way of life? And if you don't, you're a bigot by
- 43:50your own definition. And so that's it, you know, like all this
- 43:53pride stuff and all that. We're not out here talking about this, but
- 43:57all of a sudden, June comes around and it's like me and cram down
- 44:00the public's throat and it's like, hey, we didn't ask for all this.
- 44:02You know, y'all can do your thing or whatever. But pushing it
- 44:06on people, I mean, that's it's it's a don't you think we played
- 44:09Devil's advocate? No pun intend you say anything? But don't you think as
- 44:14a parent, And I'm not a parent, but as a parent, that
- 44:15you have the right to say, Okay, I'm going to take my child
- 44:20to this particular event or I'm not. You do you do have the right
- 44:22to take your child to different places, but there are certain moral guardrails.
- 44:28There's certain moral things that we accept. For an example, rated to our
- 44:32movies. Now Hollywood puts ratings on movies. James Dobson's not out here putting
- 44:38ratings on movies. It's Hollywood. Well why do they do that, Well,
- 44:43it's it's an implied notion that some movies are more appropriate for children than
- 44:47others. And of course parents can. Can they take their movies and show
- 44:51or take their children and show them our rated movies? Well, sure they
- 44:52can. Is it wise? Is it healthy? Is it things? Does
- 44:57it have content that children's brains can process us properly? A lot of this
- 45:00material is difficult for a child to process. We're talking about drag Queen and
- 45:07different things like this. For children, the process in their mind and things
- 45:12like that, it's very difficult, and I think we need to have a
- 45:14little bit more compassion for the kids. Eight minutes away from ten five,

- 47:44says, I guess the caller wanted Trump to be handcuffed and stuffed in a
- 47:49cell, said, told you, Hodge can't answer the question. Trump was
- 47:53found liabele in a jury trial for sex abuse against Egan Carroll. Now watch
- 47:57Hodge promote the adjudicated sex abuser Trump, and then somebody sent me a bunch
- 48:04of memes. All right, um, Tech says, maybe promoting is not
- 48:07correct, not the correct word. Maybe supporting and someone found financially liable for
- 48:12the sex abuser for president. I want to get your opinion of this,
- 48:15Tony. Last week, the world of West Virginia politics lost one of the
- 48:20true icons and the death of Warren McGraw. And of course, I mean,
- 48:23you name, it'd be easier, as Hobbies said, it would be
- 48:27easier to go and name offices that he didn't hold. And what's Virginia,
- 48:30I mean on the local level, state level, Supreme court, you know
- 48:32whatever, then it would be that that he did, you know, And
- 48:37we want to be respectful and things of that nature. And you and I
- 48:38were talking about this last week off the air. It's kind of an end
- 48:43of an era when some of these old school politicians pass away. Yeah,
- 48:47I think, well, first of all, let me say, uh,
- 48:51you know, condolences to mister McGraw's family. And I want to be respectful,
- 48:53you know, of you know, we've we've lost someone a life,
- 48:58you know, as a guy who's served in with life in West Virginia.
- 49:00So I do want to be respectful. But at the same time, you
- 49:02know, I do talk politics. I want to talk on the political side
- 49:06of or McGraw, and I do. I do feel like it's sort of
- 49:07the end of an era. You know, he's most remembered, whether you
- 49:13like it or not, He's most remembered for the rant and racene or the
- 49:15screaming Racene. However you want to describe it. It's on YouTube. You
- 49:16can go look it up. Look up screaming Racene. I think it is.
- 49:21You know, he he came unhinged that day and really said a lot
- 49:25of things. If you go back and listen to it, it really kind
- 49:29of you know, it was very um almost like he was entitled, a
- 49:32little bit arrogant. You know, who do they think elected me? You
- 49:36know, you remember that line and all the things he said in that rant.
- 49:39But it is, you know, it's it's it's him and his brother,
- 49:44Darryl McGraw. You know when I was a kid in the nineteen nineties,
- 49:45Darren mcgrawl, Well, when I was a kid, I was junior
- 49:47high, you know round in their junior high high school. Darren McGraw was
- 49:52the attorney general, and you know, you could sit down, you could
- 49:57go to a school. I remember at my house. In fact, I
- 49:59think I still have some because I wanted to save them. But I can
- 50:01remember pencils, little pencils, and they were shaped like a judge's gavel.
- 50:06So the on the eraser end there would be two erasers sticking out left and
- 50:08right, and then you'd have the pencil so it looked like a gavel,
- 50:10and on it it would say Judge Darryl mcgrawl, Attorney General. There'd be
- 50:15pencils and notepads and all this stuff. And these things were distributed at taxpayer's
- 50:17expense. The trinkets, Yeah, the trinkets everywhere, and a lot of
- 50:21people forget about that. It's been a long time now, but you know
- 50:23when the Republicans took over, uh you know Morrissey beat Um, Uh,
- 50:28Darryl mcgrawl when when? When when the Republicans took over all the lord trinket
- 50:30system. It's gone. You don't see it anymore. We got rid of
- 50:34it. I got rid of it. Taxpayer funded. You know, campaigning
- 50:37was what it was. And the McGraw family was very, very well known
- 50:40for that. But I'll tell you it's interesting because, like I said,
- 50:45it's it's it's it's an era that's gone. I was going through my archives
- 50:49when when McGraw, when we found out he passed away. I had some
- 50:52some things that I'd saved over the years, and one thing I was going
- 50:54through, it didn't really going through. I didn't really have anything to do
- 50:57with mcgrawl. But it just reminded me the changing of an era. So
- 51:00this right here, I've got it right here. I brought it in.
- 51:02It's the Charleston Gazette, dated Tuesday, February second, nineteen ninety eight,
- 51:07and I'll show it to you here. It's got a picture and it says
- 51:09it's a billboard. There was two of them. There's one in Saint Auban's
- 51:13and one in near Rock Branch. Huge billboard and it says President Clinton is
- 51:19telling the truth. And it was in relation to the Monica Lewinsky thing.
- 51:22Now, a very well known lawyer who everyone who listened to this station would
- 51:28know out of an adjacent county. He says, right here, he paid
- 51:30for these billboards and posted them around Canall Valley. President Clinton is telling the
- 51:35truth. Now, we all know President Clinton was lying. You know,
- 51:37we he came out and admitted it. He said he was. You know,
- 51:39he didn't have an affair with Monica Lewinsky in January. He came out
- 51:43in August and said that he did. And so back then they could get
- 51:45away with this kind of stuff. And this is the kind of stuff they
- 51:47did. This stuff is ended. President Clinton wasn't telling the truth. Junk
- 51:52like this. It's a bygone era. We're moving forward, all right.
- 51:55Let me read this quick text before I go, because they put a lot
- 51:58of work into it. Adjudicated set subuser question mark. The selective outrage from
- 52:01those who are so egotistical to believe themselves to be morally superior is disgustingly despicable.
- 52:07Not one word about the disturbing air whispering, harry sniffing creepy pedophile currently
- 52:13occupy occupying the Oval office. They put so much work into that I had
- 52:16to read a weird people out there all right here, we gotta go,
