- 0:26Welcome to the Pop Culture Junkie Podcast. My name is Shauna and I am joined as usual by my fellow Junkies.
- 0:35Nicole and Olivia.
- 0:38Alright Junkies. How's it going? How's it hanging? How's life?
- 0:44We're here.
- 0:46Oh no! Blank stares from across the room.
- 0:51Nicole's about to jump.
- 0:53Nicole's about to jump y'all. That's so funny. No! No! No! No!
- 0:58I think I'm about to probably be the most annoying person ever on the Earth.
- 1:02Yeah you are.
- 1:03The most annoying I've ever been on this episode, but I am amazing.
- 1:07I last minute pulled the trigger to go see Taylor Swift and then a turn of events.
- 1:13Yes, for the second time.
- 1:15And in the most beautiful turn of events, I got my tickets for free.
- 1:19I got my fight for free and the battle tell. So whenever I went into it, I did not know that was going to be the case.
- 1:27And so I want to hear all about this.
- 1:32Right, it pays to have a great boss and a great job y'all.
- 1:35Yeah, so my Anna Swift boss at that.
- 1:38Thanks.
- 1:39I went into it and gave her my range of what I was willing to pay.
- 1:44And she was like, "Yeah, I just asked that."
- 1:45So I wouldn't go absolutely insane on the ticket price, but we're going to treat you.
- 1:51My four year anniversary with my company was like a week ago.
- 1:56And so that was really, really cool.
- 1:59And then from there, we didn't realize the tickets that we bought were sweet tickets.
- 2:04And so far, they were so sweet tickets.
- 2:07Yeah, so we had a private bathroom and a waiter.
- 2:12So it was just like all around amazing and a great time.
- 2:17So it was so cool.
- 2:20And then last night, I rewatched a concert that I completely had just seen two days prior on my phone.
- 2:31That kills me.
- 2:32It kills me too that you record.
- 2:34Wait, did you record the entire thing on your phone where you one of those people or did you watch someone else's recording?
- 2:38Absolutely.
- 2:39Okay, okay.
- 2:40Thank God.
- 2:41See where I'm going to make sure.
- 2:43I am saying to my heart's content, probably annoying people around me as well.
- 2:50Maybe not their heart's content, but to mine.
- 2:53And literally it was, so I guess we'll talk about it a little bit, but Carly Claus.
- 3:00And if you're a gayler or a gayler fan, you know exactly what that means.
- 3:05Get us the tea.
- 3:06Well, the biggest rumor of the night was she was going to announce 1989.
- 3:11And she did.
- 3:13And this is like the first time in the Swift talk universe that they've ever actually accurately
- 3:19predicted something.
- 3:20And so really the first time you guys are bad at this.
- 3:26They've gotten like little things.
- 3:27No, they're insane.
- 3:28Like it's crazy.
- 3:30Like I've watched TikTok and I'm like, y'all are on some stuff.
- 3:33Like maybe see, can I have some?
- 3:36Seek psychiatric help or something.
- 3:38But they're like doing like adding numbers together in ways and all that stuff.
- 3:44They did get this one right.
- 3:45But then so everyone's like waiting for this concert and then all of a sudden Carly Claus
- 3:51shows up.
- 3:53And both groups of people, the ones who think she's like bisexual or lesbian and the headlers
- 3:59as we like to call them.
- 4:03We're like, okay, what is going on?
- 4:05Like either you believe that Carly betrayed Taylor and like showed up to steal her thunder
- 4:13or she's pulling a James and she's showing up at her party and asking him to kiss her in
- 4:21front of all her stupid friends.
- 4:23Okay.
- 4:25So you said that Carly showed up and that she was just in like gin pop, right?
- 4:32Like she was in the crowd.
- 4:33She was in a private suite.
- 4:35She wanted people to see her there.
- 4:36She wanted people to know she was there and she wanted Taylor to know she was there.
- 4:41So there's something going on there.
- 4:44I don't know if I don't think they're getting back together because Carly's still married
- 4:48to that fucking Kushner guy.
- 4:50Unfortunately.
- 4:51Josh Kushner.
- 4:52Yeah.
- 4:53How does she go from being a bisexual icon with Taylor Swift to being married to a Kushner
- 4:59is very unfortunate?
- 5:02I would agree.
- 5:03I would agree.
- 5:04The other person that was there is Josh's best friend who's like an oil air who in the
- 5:10crazy K-Lare world people think is like his lover.
- 5:15I love how everybody has a gay lover in this universe.
- 5:20It's nuts.
- 5:21It's absolutely nuts.
- 5:22It is a soap opera.
- 5:24Everybody has a gay secret lover and there's a lot of math that seems to be involved in
- 5:30numbers in the Taylor Swift universe which I'm not here for.
- 5:34But gay secret lovers, I'm about that all day.
- 5:37Yes.
- 5:38Same.
- 5:39Same.
- 5:40So good.
- 5:41Absolutely.
- 5:42Okay.
- 5:43So that's a lot of good gala/taylor Carly Claw gossip.
- 5:46There is so much gossip going on in the celebrity world right now and I have just been like foaming
- 5:52at the mouth wanting to talk to you guys about this.
- 5:55So I want to talk Lizzo with you guys because this shit came out of nowhere and I know that
- 6:02it's been blowing people's minds.
- 6:04So Lizzo has always been known as a body positive feminist icon.
- 6:11I mean when fans call her out for problematic lyrics like one of her songs last year, she
- 6:17very quickly changed the lyric.
- 6:19She's always kind of been known as a very progressive artist.
- 6:23Somebody who...
- 6:24I mean everybody fucking loves Lizzo, right?
- 6:26I don't think I've met anybody unless they're problematic dude who's not like a Lizzo song.
- 6:32Or racist.
- 6:35Or racist, right?
- 6:37Problematic misogynistic racists.
- 6:40However, recently Lizzo was sued by three of her former dancers for sexual harassment
- 6:49and creating a hostile work environment.
- 6:52These allegations are bananas you guys.
- 7:02So apparently a night out in the town in Amsterdam during one of Lizzo's concerts went down with
- 7:09her and her backup dancers which she has acknowledged they all go out and party together.
- 7:15But the backup dancers are saying that they were put in sexual situations that they didn't
- 7:20consent to.
- 7:22They stated that they were like forced or encouraged by Lizzo to eat bananas out of sex workers
- 7:29vaginas.
- 7:31And they also said that Lizzo body shamed them and demanded that they lose weight which
- 7:38goes against her entire brand of body positivity and you know plus size positivity.
- 7:45But really her brand or her backup dancers were called like big girls and her show on what
- 7:52was the Amazon was called let's hear it for the big girls or something like that.
- 7:56Like this is her whole brand has this just been fake the entire time.
- 8:01I want to hear what you guys think about this.
- 8:03Yeah I don't know I feel like I don't know if she's just putting on a front to like get
- 8:09her publicity and then she made it big and now she's just you know she's like okay I have
- 8:14my money I don't care but now the her backup dancers are coming out which good for them if
- 8:20this is true which I am not saying it's not because I always stand with victims.
- 8:27This is absolutely absurd because yeah she is all for body positivity.
- 8:31She is obviously not your typical perfect body obviously we all know Lizzo and her body
- 8:37sheep and everything and she is always one that is like love your body love who you are
- 8:42and then now she's calling out her team for not having the perfect body that she wants
- 8:47and it's just so absurd and I will say though the means and TikToks that are coming out
- 8:53are quite funny but I know oh my gosh there is something else that I want to talk about
- 8:58with this topic that I'll come back to once Olivia tells her side but it was crazy too
- 9:04like I think there's going to be another lawsuit coming against her as well.
- 9:07Oh dang okay okay what do you think about all of us?
- 9:11Yeah so when I first heard it's very visceral you're like wait what and yeah like Lizzo of
- 9:18all people yeah it's very paradigm shifting where you're like well that's not that that
- 9:24person that I thought it was and how could she do that you know like for everything that
- 9:28we know about her and a lot of the TikToks that I've come across are lawyers actually like
- 9:36going through this lawsuit and like the early early things that were released and what's
- 9:42been pretty crazy is first off if you are an employer and you're taking your employees
- 9:49to a sex club like you're an idiot yeah dude that is so against US like American employment
- 9:58lies just like common sense would say that and so I get you want to be friends with your
- 10:05backup dancers and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that right there's nothing wrong
- 10:09in a place exactly and there is a line between okay we're going to go out and get dinner
- 10:17or we're going to maybe get some cocktails and then when it starts to get into we're going
- 10:22to go to a strip club we're going to go to a full on sex bar and like the red light district
- 10:27of Amsterdam that's when it's like okay maybe at this point if you guys want to go as
- 10:33the employer go ahead and go you're off the clock and I'm going to go back to my hotel room
- 10:39you know like what you guys do off the clock is up to you but I'm your boss and I'm not
- 10:43going to involve myself in this it's just yeah that's pretty good project right exactly however
- 10:51a lot of what I've seen are people upset about the fat phobia stuff yeah that's why I was like I want
- 10:56you to go before me because it is upsetting but what's actually written in the lawsuit is very very
- 11:02different and so this person was asked are you okay and this was after they were diagnosed with some
- 11:13sort of binge eating disorder and so obviously when you're going through that there's a lot going
- 11:18on you're probably depressed yeah a lot of anxiety and so she internalized body shame yes and so she
- 11:25took Lizzo asking about it as them implying that they noticed that she had gained weight
- 11:31uh so the other stuff is a canine and you should never do that and that's that's a real problem
- 11:38but I think when when it looks at that and look this lawyer who is the one who made the initial
- 11:44statement so I he does not get paid until there's a settlement or they win yeah right so how do you
- 11:51actually get them to settle a bunch of bad press Lizzo just wants it to go away and like I think
- 11:57them putting the fat shaming stuff was to rile up a bunch of people who are already fat phobic and
- 12:06maybe have a little internalized stuff not saying like you guys were but like a lot of the people who
- 12:12were like I always knew she was a terrible person exactly this is giving people who already didn't
- 12:19like her a reason to be like do you see I was right all along and that's not it at all and also we
- 12:26can criticize Lizzo and you know if these allegations are true that's disgusting and I absolutely hope
- 12:33that these dancers get the justice for it and we can criticize Lizzo without criticizing her body
- 12:40the way she looks the body positivity movement in general because I've seen a lot of trolls doing
- 12:45that online uh and I feel like it's it's gonna be easier maybe to prove that the banana sex club
- 12:55stuff happened then it is to just kind of this weird did you get body shamed because that could be like
- 13:02a oh you misunderstood what I was saying that's not what I meant you know a little verbal misunderstanding
- 13:09okay how far is that gonna go in court but like yeah putting somebody in a sexual situation
- 13:15against their consent or their will especially employer that's not gonna fly yeah and I
- 13:21also be remiss to like not say like this is bifar know where near the worst stuff that is happening
- 13:28in Hollywood from people's employers at all and so the the concentration on a bigger black woman
- 13:39like doing these things it's like to her and you know you can only make so many statements when
- 13:44you're in an act of lawsuit like you can't apologize it's a mission yeah it it is probably like
- 13:53I'm not doing anything no one else is doing around me and near me and so I think it's it's complicated
- 14:01but I mean like it's pretty logical to not do that with an employer and so yeah what's like
- 14:08what were you gonna say Nicole about like the other lawsuit that you saw was going down
- 14:14yeah so it's not actually happening but I feel like it could potentially become one
- 14:19I was on TikTok the other day and there was a girl who was who auditioned if that's like the right word out
- 14:25no girls auditioned for her show that you were talking about and she got the part and she had to go
- 14:31through all the the whole contract situation and she was reading through the contract and she herself
- 14:36was like an independent artist and I believe like she would have to give up her rights to like her
- 14:41self to the Zoes team and like everything like that and she just wasn't willing to do that and she has
- 14:48lawyers in her family and she had the lawyers in her family read the contract and they were like yeah
- 14:52don't do that because once you sign it like they have the rights to you for basically your life
- 14:57like forever yeah and she's okay yeah not gonna do that so once she applied for this position
- 15:05she had to send over pieces of her work as examples and two examples that she sent over were two of
- 15:11her music videos and after she declined to move forward with the position Lizzo put out a music
- 15:19video and one of the music videos was identical to this girl's music video it was Lizzo in a classroom
- 15:26then the classroom turned into like a disco party and then the other one was Lizzo on stage performing
- 15:33and then on Lizzo was like figure of a woman like on her body like a silhouette yeah like a
- 15:38silhouette of a woman's body yeah like and that was the girl's music video like of herself like
- 15:44loving not literally loving herself but like just admiring her body and who she is as a person
- 15:50so these are music videos that this woman made of not ones that she was cast in from another artist
- 15:56oh her own music yeah her music video that of her song and she sent over those two specific music
- 16:03videos as examples to Lizzo's team and then all of a sudden Lizzo when she declined to move forward
- 16:11with the role Lizzo put out those two things yeah but the music video is literally identical to
- 16:18this girl's music video like the classroom into the disco parties absolutely identical I'm gonna
- 16:23have to look that up to yeah that's gonna have to be another lawsuit right oh my gosh we'll have to
- 16:29find the tick-tucker I watched that as well I liked it so it's definitely in my likes yeah I'll have to
- 16:36go back yes I'm gonna have to go watch that Lizzo for her part did release a statement I won't read
- 16:41the whole thing but she said these last few days have been gut-wrenchingly difficult and
- 16:45overwhelmingly disappointing my work ethic morals and respectfulness have been questioned my
- 16:50characters been criticized these sensationalized stories are coming from former employees who have
- 16:55already publicly admitted that they were told their behavior onto or was inappropriate and unprofessional
- 17:01as an artist I'm always passionate about what I do with passion comes hard work and high standards
- 17:07sometimes I have to make hard decisions but it's never my intention to make anyone uncomfortable
- 17:11yeah I'm not here to look like a victim but I also know that I'm not the villain that people in
- 17:18the media have portrayed me to be these last few days so it will be interesting to see where it goes
- 17:26from there one thing one thing that I forgot to mention as well that was a big part of the lawsuit
- 17:32um just for people who are looking at it a lot of it is against this dance captain who is mega
- 17:40religious and like it's like it's kind of like all around breaking employment law and so the first
- 17:47one we talked about was common sense the second one is a leader or a person in leadership on the team
- 17:54for religious pressuring and also like inappropriate sexual conversations yeah and then inappropriate
- 18:00like sexual conversations to the point where the the team knew her like deepest sexual fantasies so
- 18:08you know no pun intended yeah yeah right maybe it maybe it was that I don't remember exactly what it
- 18:16was but just as you know putting this out there to anybody who's listening who might be a boss or
- 18:22have employees don't take your employees to sex clubs unless you're a sex worker and that's part of
- 18:28your job and then by all means have fun don't force people to pray and I guess don't talk about people's
- 18:36bodies it's just this is all common sense but yeah we'll keep everybody updated yeah I do also
- 18:44want to talk about some celebrity relationship drama that's been going down there's been some divorces
- 18:49just kind of in the air I know yeah Sophia Vergara I sorry if I'm butchering her last name
- 18:59I don't want to imagine little little,
- 19:01-MNgeoneeoh.
- 19:02-MNgeoneele.
- 19:03-It's over the NBC.
- 19:04-MNgeoneelegm, you know.
- 19:06- dieser = Charley Butler yeah.
- 19:08-Shamilla,лон zamala,lon.
- 19:09-I know they were so cute to get there.
- 19:11-They got a divorce.
- 19:14-My division class
- 19:15was like, "I can get 'em now."
- 19:17Right.
- 19:19-Oh, look at the senior sympers.
- 19:22-He's so hot.
- 19:23Yeah, they're both so hot.
- 19:25.
- 19:25Actually, I don't know.
- 19:27I feel like men are an easier catch
- 19:29because they're like, you know.
- 19:31-You seem one dick.
- 19:32You seem them all.
- 19:34-Well, no.
- 19:34Just sometimes they really think
- 19:36with their dicks.
- 19:37And, you know, I think Sophie of Agar
- 19:39is like, out of my league, for sure.
- 19:42I mean, he is too.
- 19:43Let's be honest.
- 19:43But like, he feels closer.
- 19:46-These are very attractive people.
- 19:48And I would mind seeing them both naked with their consent.
- 19:53And I hope they find happiness in the future.
- 19:56You could watch Magic Mike and really get, imagine it.
- 20:00-I have never seen any of those movies.
- 20:04I know.
- 20:05I know.
- 20:05-I know.
- 20:05-I know.
- 20:06-I know.
- 20:07-I know.
- 20:08-We need to have a pop culture junkie movie night
- 20:10and the three of us will watch Magic Mike.
- 20:13-The Olivia is too stunned to speak.
- 20:17-Okay.
- 20:18Okay.
- 20:19This is going to happen.
- 20:20We're going to watch Magic Mike and we're going to drink--
- 20:22-And drink the hot sauce night.
- 20:24-I do the hot sauce night and drink the rocks to Keela.
- 20:28-But that might cause such a weird feeling to be like,
- 20:31all horned up, eat all that hot sauce and then also drunk.
- 20:35[laughter]
- 20:37-So it's going to be our chaser.
- 20:40-Yeah.
- 20:41Actually, I shot at Tequila with some hot sauce inside.
- 20:44Is in a pickle back.
- 20:45-Delicious.
- 20:46-Delicious.
- 20:47-Delicious.
- 20:48-The hot ones.
- 20:49Do they-- do they do a shot at Tequila with hot sauce inside?
- 20:54-Because that's bomb.
- 20:55-No.
- 20:56-Not dub-bomb, but it's bomb.
- 20:57-The world's hottest.
- 20:58Yeah, okay.
- 20:59You have seen it.
- 21:00-We'll start with like the first couple of sauces.
- 21:03-We'll start with like the first couple of sauces.
- 21:04-We'll start with like the first couple of sauces.
- 21:05-We'll start with like the first couple of sauces.
- 21:06-We'll start with like the first couple of sauces.
- 21:07-We'll start with like the first couple of sauces.
- 21:08-We'll start with like the first couple of sauces.
- 21:09-We'll start with like the first couple of sauces.
- 21:10-We'll start with like the first couple of sauces.
- 21:11-We'll start with like the first couple of sauces.
- 21:12-We'll start with like the first couple of sauces.
- 21:13-We'll start with like the first couple of sauces.
- 21:14-You don't do it with the bomb.
- 21:30-I think you need more fear.
- 21:32-I think you need more fear of these hot sauces.
- 21:33-Come around here with that.
- 21:34-What are you talking about?
- 21:35-I'm making us do it.
- 21:36-I'm gonna make you do it.
- 21:37-I'm gonna make you do it.
- 21:38-To kill hot sauce.
- 21:39-I'm gonna make you do it.
- 21:40-To kill hot sauce.
- 21:41-To kill hot sauce.
- 21:42-To kill hot sauce.
- 21:43-Anyway, if you know one thing about me, it's that I will throw up.
- 21:48-Doesn't take much, but I will throw up.
- 21:50-Okay, but if there's another thing I know about you, it's that you'll do it and then you'll
- 21:56throw up.
- 21:57-Yeah, but I'm trying to do it.
- 21:58-So you're still gonna do it.
- 21:59-I'm trying to do it.
- 22:00-You're still gonna do it.
- 22:01-You're still gonna do it.
- 22:02-You're still gonna do it.
- 22:03-You're gonna do it in your living room and it's gonna happen and then you're gonna
- 22:09throw up and then Nicole's gonna have to pick us up off the floor.
- 22:12-Yeah.
- 22:13-Because we're just horny and full of tequila hot sauce.
- 22:17-The first set of throw, I'm gone.
- 22:22-No.
- 22:23-Fuck this shit up.
- 22:24-Yeah.
- 22:25-Fuck this shit up.
- 22:26-I don't blame you.
- 22:27-I don't blame you.
- 22:28-Okay, speaking of fuck this shit I'm out and then just dipping on a Grande left or husband.
- 22:37-Do you like my transition there?
- 22:40-Yeah.
- 22:41-And then also left her boyfriend after it came out.
- 22:44It's very interesting.
- 22:45-Did she believe Ethan Slater?
- 22:49-I thought I heard him some time to cope with it.
- 22:52-Oh my God.
- 22:53-And it's like, baby, that time it already came and passed.
- 22:58-Because she realized he looked like her brother.
- 23:00-Right, you look smart.
- 23:01-Okay.
- 23:02So real quick, we want to spend too much time on this.
- 23:04Ariana Grande and her husband Dalton announced that they were getting a divorce.
- 23:09And then like three days later it was kind of revealed that Ariana has been dating this guy
- 23:16Ethan Slater, aka SpongeBob SquarePants on Broadway.
- 23:21And if anybody's never seen a picture of Ethan Slater, close your eyes and imagine what SpongeBob
- 23:27SquarePants in human form would look like and that's what this dude looks like.
- 23:31-No, he's uglier than that.
- 23:33He's uglier than that.
- 23:35I was trying to be nice.
- 23:36I was trying to be nice.
- 23:37-Yeah.
- 23:38-I don't know why you would do that.
- 23:40-I know.
- 23:41-I know.
- 23:42-Grey's?
- 23:43-No, we are not giving these cheating ass men.
- 23:46-Right, okay.
- 23:47-Someone.
- 23:48-And so Ethan Slater, the boyfriend guy, is her co-star on the new Wicked movie that she's filming.
- 23:55He is married and his wife just had a baby within the last year.
- 24:00So everyone behind the scenes is saying that Ariana and Ethan have been doing it for a while
- 24:06and that they were real sloppy on set and not trying their hardest to hide that they were having a whole ass affair.
- 24:12And Ariana and Dalton double dated with Ethan and his ex-wife Lily.
- 24:19So all four of them fucking hung out together.
- 24:21Well those two were begging.
- 24:23Disgusting.
- 24:25-Yeah.
- 24:26The newborn thing is like, okay, your wife probably wasn't even fully recovered from that.
- 24:32-Yeah.
- 24:33-And that baby and you just putting it elsewhere.
- 24:38I mean, if Ariana Grande looks at you and wants to sleep with you, you're like, okay.
- 24:44I'm gonna do it.
- 24:46-I had this conversation with my husband and I was like, you have to swear to me right fucking now that if Ariana Grande ever wants to have sex with you, you will not do it.
- 24:54-What if he's like, "Ugh."
- 24:57-What if he like pulled the whole past system earlier?
- 25:01-Do you guys have a whole past?
- 25:03-Absolutely.
- 25:04But like, Ariana never --
- 25:06-Rahul Kohli.
- 25:08-100%.
- 25:10-Oh, look at that.
- 25:12-I feel like you cut out.
- 25:14-Rahul Kohli.
- 25:15-Rahul Kohli, God damn it.
- 25:17He's from Haunting of Hill House, Haunting of Blime Manor, the new show, The Fall of the House of Usher Eyes.
- 25:24-Sombie.
- 25:26-You obviously didn't hear our episode then, Olivia.
- 25:29-Yeah.
- 25:31-Oh my God.
- 25:32-Oh, my God.
- 25:33-He didn't make him sound hot enough for me to look hot.
- 25:35-He basically looks like my husband.
- 25:37-Oh.
- 25:39-Okay.
- 25:40-Oh, so that means he's hot enough, right?
- 25:41-She's right there, good.
- 25:43-Thanks.
- 25:44-I do.
- 25:45-And Lady Gaga.
- 25:46-Okay.
- 25:47-Yeah, I would -- yeah, Gaga and Rahul Kohli.
- 25:49But his have always been Jessica Chastain and Selena Gomez.
- 25:53So, I know that I'm safe from Ariana Grande's sexual alert.
- 25:58-Sexual alert from my man.
- 26:00-Yeah.
- 26:02-Yeah, I wouldn't peg him as a Jessica Chastain.
- 26:06-You would peg him?
- 26:08-Oh, sorry.
- 26:09-I mean, he's your husband.
- 26:10He's your husband.
- 26:11Can't do that.
- 26:12Can't do that.
- 26:13-Can't peg Sean's husband.
- 26:15-Yeah, you know, I'm not Ariana Grande.
- 26:19-I'm not Ariana Grande, but --
- 26:23-Yeah.
- 26:24-All right, so pay for our new new Patreon tier.
- 26:28-Alivial.
- 26:29-Thank you.
- 26:30[laughter]
- 26:36-It's so good.
- 26:37-I don't know.
- 26:38-What do you think about all this celebrity divorce in Ariana Grande, et cetera, Nicole?
- 26:43How do you feel about love being lost in the celeb world?
- 26:48-Oh, sorts of messed up.
- 26:51-Actually forgot she was even married.
- 26:54-Right.
- 26:55-And then this came out and I was like, "Holy crap."
- 26:57And then I seen a picture of him and I'm like, "Holy crap, he's ugly."
- 26:59And I'm like, "Holy crap, it looks like her brother with the red hair."
- 27:03-Yes, he looks just like Frankie.
- 27:05-Yeah, it just keeps getting worse and worse for this poor girl.
- 27:07And I'm like, "Girl, you are a drop dead gorgeous and you could do 10 times better."
- 27:11But now I'm like, "Who wants you after this whole mess?"
- 27:14-I mean, a lot of guys will, but --
- 27:16-Yeah, yeah.
- 27:17-She just doesn't seem like a good person.
- 27:19-I'm gonna do what the good person does.
- 27:20-Exactly.
- 27:21-She doesn't seem like a good person.
- 27:23I remember being weirdly uncomfortable when she licked the doughnut years ago.
- 27:27Do you guys remember that?
- 27:29And it was so silly and innocuous, but at the same time, it always just kind of spoke to me.
- 27:34She thinks she's better than everyone else.
- 27:36She disrespected this small local business.
- 27:39I don't know.
- 27:40I'm a celebrity.
- 27:41"Haha, I'm so funny."
- 27:43-Yeah.
- 27:44-That just seemed gross to me.
- 27:46-Yeah. And she made them bring out more so she could lick more.
- 27:50It was weird.
- 27:51It wasn't like one.
- 27:52-Yeah.
- 27:53I don't know.
- 27:55I guess she was young and dumb, but she --
- 27:59-Yeah.
- 28:00-I don't know.
- 28:01Lily J.
- 28:02Ethan Slater's estranged wife put out a statement and was like, "I just want to focus on raising
- 28:07my kid and getting on with my life."
- 28:10She's like, "Focus on Ariana.
- 28:11Focus on that because it's all her."
- 28:13And I'm just focusing on my life and she said, "Aryana is not a girl's girl," which I can be absolutely saying.
- 28:20-Yeah.
- 28:21And I remember reading Jeanette McCarty's book, "I'm glad my mom died."
- 28:24And she was just talking so much crap about Ariana Grande saying that she would never come into production
- 28:29of Sam and Kat in that Jeanette McCarty was always on set and she would have to do like,
- 28:33double the work because she wasn't there.
- 28:35But Ariana Grande was still being portrayed as like the best person ever because of everything she's done on her.
- 28:39-First star status.
- 28:40-Yeah, first star status.
- 28:41-First star status.
- 28:42-Yeah, first star status.
- 28:43-Because she was going on tour and everything and had to do concerts.
- 28:45But Jeanette McCarty was still working her butt off to put on this show but was not getting the recognition for it.
- 28:51-There's a whole last episode of I Carly where Ariana Grande acts, she's in a box the whole episode
- 28:57because she could come to tour and say, "Oh shit, you're right."
- 29:01-I don't know.
- 29:02-Lizzie McGuire.
- 29:04-One of the shows.
- 29:05-One of those.
- 29:06-It was on the TV Street.
- 29:08-Sensime Street.
- 29:10-No, yeah.
- 29:12-She said about the box.
- 29:14-Yeah, I think there's also something going on with her.
- 29:20Obviously, if you're Dan Schneider's favorite girl, that's going to mess you up.
- 29:26And if you're famous that young, I think it's like a deep sense of seeing a healthy relationship and love
- 29:34and being like, "Oh, well, I could have that if I could just have them."
- 29:38And that's so, so toxic.
- 29:40-Yeah.
- 29:41-Very, very wrong.
- 29:42I mean, I think I just look at her and I'm like, like, you can see the body just more via the not wanting to be herself.
- 29:51-Trying so hard to fit some image that she has in her head of what she, I don't know.
- 29:57It's, yeah, it's all very sad.
- 29:59-Yeah, and so I think the not a girl's girl is a really easy verbiage to just hate women now.
- 30:07-Yeah, I know.
- 30:08And I hate that.
- 30:09But I feel what she was saying.
- 30:11Like, this woman, oh, yes, everything she said about it.
- 30:14-Sleeping with my husband, like, I get why she would say that.
- 30:18And, you know, I hate being the pick me ass bitch.
- 30:21I'm not like other girls.
- 30:22-She's not a girl's girl.
- 30:24-Mmm.
- 30:25-That shit's dumb.
- 30:26-Yeah.
- 30:27-No, I would, I would raise hell.
- 30:30-Yeah, I would raise absolute hell.
- 30:33And it's like, come on, girl, but yeah, I think there's definitely something going on with her.
- 30:38Like, she's so scary skinny and I'm like, I think she's amaciatingly skinny.
- 30:45And I, you know, I'm not going to body shame her either.
- 30:47Like, if that's what she looks like, then, you know, what, I don't know.
- 30:51But it just, the, it's drasticness of how it happened.
- 30:54It's just like, my god, girl.
- 30:57-Even the plastic surgery, like, she's like changing her face every three years.
- 31:01Like, it's scary.
- 31:02Yeah, there's something going on.
- 31:04So, even though she messed up, I don't want it to be like the public bludgeoning of everything.
- 31:10-Oh, yeah.
- 31:11-I hope she gets the help that she needs.
- 31:14-And, you know, shame on Ethan Slater for cheating on his wife.
- 31:17Let's focus more on that.
- 31:19This dude cheated on his fucking wife who just had his baby.
- 31:23And, like, he's nothing to write home about.
- 31:26[Music]
- 31:31This whole episode I just realized has been focused on musicians and music.
- 31:36So, now that we've talked about problematic shit, let's talk about some actual cool artists.
- 31:42So, we did this in the Pre-Olivia days and put a whole episode out about different artists,
- 31:51like, up and coming or under the radar that we wanted you guys to pay attention to.
- 31:55And, friend of the podcast, Ms. Whitney Peyton came on the show.
- 31:59She's incredible.
- 32:01Still listening to her on Spotify, Pandora, Shoutout, Arizona artists.
- 32:06But, let's do a part two.
- 32:08Now, that Olivia's here.
- 32:10And, let's go around and just quickly shout out five artists each that you guys have been listening to
- 32:16or that you think should get some more recognition.
- 32:19And Nicole, why don't you start us up, baby girl.
- 32:22Oh, brat.
- 32:24One of my artists that I would like to shout out is Aston, it's A-S-T-O-N.
- 32:31And, she's an Australian singer/songwriter.
- 32:34I discovered her on TikTok.
- 32:37Love it.
- 32:38And, yeah, I know.
- 32:39That's basically where I discovered everything nowadays.
- 32:43And, she wrote songs for artists including Ricky Lee, Kazmo's Midnight, and Jordy Iyerland.
- 32:51Last year, she launched her Aston project with debut single Girl Is a Gun.
- 32:57My favorite song by her is Mama Didn't Raise No.
- 33:01Super Good.
- 33:02She basically talks about that, like, you don't need a man.
- 33:04You are a fine woman.
- 33:06Just by yourself.
- 33:07What genre is she?
- 33:09She is probably like a pop kind of, and I believe her latest single is Girl Is a Gun.
- 33:15I had kind of a hard time finding what her latest single was.
- 33:18But...
- 33:19Girl is a gun sounds like a cool song.
- 33:21I like the title already.
- 33:23But, yeah, she has a cool, cool vibe.
- 33:25I am obsessed with her.
- 33:27So, I would definitely check her out, especially from Australia.
- 33:30Love that.
- 33:31From Australia, just super cool.
- 33:33I'm different.
- 33:34I'm different.
- 33:35Except for that guy, I dated from Australia.
- 33:37He was cool at the time, I guess.
- 33:40He had a nice accent.
- 33:41Yeah.
- 33:42That's how they always getcha.
- 33:44Oh my God.
- 33:45He absolutely got me with the accent, and then he was boring, so we broke up.
- 33:49But then I was like, snooping him on Facebook, like, a couple of months ago.
- 33:52I wonder what happened to him?
- 33:54And he is like, weirdly white supremacistie now.
- 33:58Oh.
- 33:59Oh.
- 34:00Dodge the bullet.
- 34:01Oh my God.
- 34:02Not took a turn.
- 34:03It did take a turn.
- 34:04Yeah.
- 34:05I know.
- 34:06I should also mention, as we keep going with our artists, we are going to put together a playlist that's going to be available on Spotify of different songs from all of these artists, kind of like the pop culture junkie.
- 34:18Fall, music, preview, shit you should listen to.
- 34:21We'll think of a better title than that, but we'll keep you all posted.
- 34:25It's very long title.
- 34:27Very long title.
- 34:28We need to keep doing that.
- 34:29We'll put it in the show notes.
- 34:32So you guys can check it out.
- 34:34All right, Liv, what's your first one?
- 34:35My first one's definitely going to be a choice of on.
- 34:38I feel like some people are going to be like, that's not new, but it's new to me.
- 34:43It's new to me.
- 34:46And so his song right now that he has out is Rush.
- 34:51And it's amazing.
- 34:52I have played it for literally everyone that says they do not know it.
- 34:56And it's just so rejecting the music video is quite fun.
- 35:01It's just a gay ol' time.
- 35:04Is it gay?
- 35:05Because I love a gay song.
- 35:07Oh, yes, it's very, very gay.
- 35:09There's a part where you look at choice of on through a glory hole.
- 35:14And Rush is like a really popular form of popper.
- 35:20And so like very big in the gay community, poppers.
- 35:23And so it's quite fun.
- 35:25And yeah, it's just a gay old time.
- 35:28We love it.
- 35:29You said that and I just immediately the Flintstones goes through my head though.
- 35:33They'll have a gay old time.
- 35:37Wow.
- 35:38Maddie, you need some more fun gay times in your life.
- 35:42I think he's some more fun gay things.
- 35:44I don't know.
- 35:45The Flintstones could be gay.
- 35:47Barney?
- 35:48I feel like Barney and Fred might have been swingers.
- 35:52Then with each other.
- 35:56Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 35:57Or they at least all went to like key parties and then Betty and Willma and everybody.
- 36:02I don't know.
- 36:03Anyway, my first artist is Marlon Kraft.
- 36:10So Marlon Kraft is a hip-hop artist from Hell's Kitchen, New York.
- 36:16That was a terrible New York accent.
- 36:18Please don't cancel me, New York.
- 36:20His father was a jazz drummer.
- 36:22His brother was a producer in a Broadway theater company.
- 36:25And you can definitely hear those influences in his music.
- 36:29He's got a lot of jazz influence in there.
- 36:32He's just a really talented rapper and songwriter.
- 36:35He touches on a lot of political things.
- 36:39And he's a white rapper.
- 36:40I will put that out there.
- 36:42I know.
- 36:43Wow.
- 36:44And what's in the blood I'm not expected that one.
- 36:46Yeah, he's a white rapper from Hell's Kitchen, New York.
- 36:50And my favorite songs from him are State of the Union and New York Baby, as well as Gangs Shit.
- 36:56State of the Union came out during a lot of political turmoil a few years ago, just kind of talking about the divisiveness in this country.
- 37:04He's definitely not a Donald Trump fan, shocking that I would like him.
- 37:08But yeah, definitely shout out to Marlon Kraft.
- 37:11His music is kind of like old school like jazz vibes, like chill vibes to study to hip-hop.
- 37:18And I like that.
- 37:19Put that on in the background.
- 37:21Something about the name Marlon though just makes me feel like that person was born in the 1930s.
- 37:29Oh, I should probably mention that he's very elderly.
- 37:33Oh.
- 37:34Oh, I'm just kidding.
- 37:35He's 30.
- 37:36Okay.
- 37:37I was like, I'm not picking up the vibe of this man.
- 37:42Oh my god.
- 37:43If there are any elderly white rappers out there.
- 37:47Just, oh, we just love.
- 37:49Maybe.
- 37:50Please send us your mixed tapes.
- 37:52Yes, you are.
- 37:53Just an old Jewish New York grandpa, just like.
- 37:59Also, some sick beats.
- 38:01I'm into it.
- 38:02Okay, Nicole, who's your next?
- 38:04My next artist is Ktlyn.
- 38:07And I'm just gonna spell these out because sometimes they're weird.
- 38:10KTLYN.
- 38:11Oh, she's an independent rapper from San Diego.
- 38:18And she is known for her song, "Handsomer."
- 38:21And again, I found her on TikTok.
- 38:24Yes.
- 38:25She actually uses TikTok to gain her attraction for her music.
- 38:30My favorite rap by her is "Big Mad."
- 38:34Her latest single is "Float State."
- 38:37And a little fun fact is that she put a verse out of her own for "Russes" song, "Handsomer,"
- 38:44which is her most known song.
- 38:46You guys know who "Russes" are heard of him?
- 38:48That sounds familiar, yeah.
- 38:50Yeah.
- 38:51His song is actually "Handsomer."
- 38:52And she put out a verse on TikTok.
- 38:54And he actually liked it so much that he re-recorded it with her on it.
- 38:57Oh, cool.
- 38:58And now it's like a huge hit.
- 38:59So that's kind of how she blew up because of his song that she was on.
- 39:04Love it.
- 39:05All right, Liv.
- 39:07Yeah, "TikTok Artists" are so cool.
- 39:09It's like, I know.
- 39:11It's also used just like a marketing, obviously.
- 39:14Like, if you have a popular song on TikTok, you're gonna be in "People's Bones," "Handsomer"
- 39:19and "Tarer" list.
- 39:20But I think I'm woefully unprepared.
- 39:24I don't have everything about these people.
- 39:26That's all good.
- 39:27You guys are better podcasts than me.
- 39:29You're fired.
- 39:30You're fired.
- 39:31You're done.
- 39:33You're done.
- 39:34Don't add your songs to the playlist.
- 39:37Okay?
- 39:38Don't add her.
- 39:40She's can.
- 39:41So the way that you said that is a good one.
- 39:44I don't know if I'm saying this right, because again, I read it on TikTok all the time.
- 39:49But I think it's INJI.
- 39:50It's I N J I
- 39:52And she has that song where it's like, "Boy so sweet, like Fanta."
- 39:56And it's so good.
- 39:58I really like it.
- 39:59She has other ones where it's like, why are you not playing the music in the club that the people want to hear?
- 40:03And she makes like six beats.
- 40:05And so she's gorgeous and just so hot as well.
- 40:10Would definitely recommend checking out her both her Spotify songs and then her TikTok.
- 40:16I could just watch her sing.
- 40:18Oh wow.
- 40:19I love that.
- 40:21Big hot doesn't hurt.
- 40:22I mean, you're gonna get on the list.
- 40:25Yeah, absolutely.
- 40:27My next one is Rico Nasty.
- 40:30So Rico Nasty has been self-releasing content for almost ten years.
- 40:35She started when she was in high school.
- 40:37She started releasing songs on SoundCloud.
- 40:39I first heard her when I was in the car with some people and they played a song called "Pussy Poppin"
- 40:46and I am obsessed with this song now.
- 40:49I love poppin' that push, you know?
- 40:51It does!
- 40:52If this song is so good, it's just about like, just poppin' your pussy.
- 40:57And sometimes you just gotta get dirty with a guy.
- 41:00You didn't know you were gonna and then you just, you're DTF, you know?
- 41:04Mm-hmm.
- 41:05Yeah.
- 41:06You're popping it.
- 41:07You're popping up with it.
- 41:08It's just your opening.
- 41:09Yes, okay.
- 41:10So Rico Nasty, her music is hip hop with influences of trap, new metal and pop punk.
- 41:18Her style is definitely very edgy and alternative.
- 41:22So definitely check out Rico Nasty.
- 41:24I know some people probably have already heard her.
- 41:26She's definitely rising up there a little bit.
- 41:28But I think she deserves to be up there with the rap ladies up today.
- 41:33Nicole, you're up girl.
- 41:35All right.
- 41:37My next artist is Drake Milligan.
- 41:39He is a 25 year old American singer and actor.
- 41:43He is best known for a portraying Elvis on a CMT series called Sun Records.
- 41:50Okay.
- 41:51He was on American Idol and America's Got Talent.
- 41:54He was born in Arlington, Texas.
- 41:56My favorite song of his is "Sounds Like Something I'd Do."
- 42:01In his latest releases, hating everything she tries on and his style is country.
- 42:06I mean, obviously I like country.
- 42:08So if you don't like country, you're probably not going to like him.
- 42:10But as a country singer, he's pretty good.
- 42:13I think he'll do very well.
- 42:15He's still super young and just coming up.
- 42:18But I think the fact that he portrayed a huge artist such as Elvis already.
- 42:22I had such a young age and on CMT, which is a very big country station,
- 42:28that he will have a very successful career ahead of him.
- 42:31Nice.
- 42:32I like it.
- 42:33I'm not a big country girl, but if you heard that song,
- 42:38it's like he was bouncing on my booty.
- 42:42He was pumping deep inside.
- 42:45It's so catchy.
- 42:48I love it.
- 42:49I love it.
- 42:50Okay.
- 42:51Liv, your turn.
- 42:52So I had like two paths when I was creating these.
- 42:55I made a joke.
- 42:56I was just going to choose all of Taylor Swift's openers.
- 43:01But I mixed it up and picked artists who sound like Taylor Swift.
- 43:06And so I'm going to pick Maggie Rogers.
- 43:09She's an American singer/songwriter.
- 43:12My favorite song of hers is Falling Water.
- 43:15It came out in 2019.
- 43:17But she's like really blowing up.
- 43:19She's really kind of seen some good success lately.
- 43:22Alaska's also a really great song.
- 43:24I love that.
- 43:26She sounds very classy.
- 43:28And my next artist is named Lil Mariko.
- 43:32And my favorite song by her is called Hi,
- 43:35I'm a Slut.
- 43:36So Lil Mariko is amazing.
- 43:43Her first single was called Where's My Juul??
- 43:46It came out in 2019.
- 43:48It's right here.
- 43:49It's right here.
- 43:51I don't know where my -- oh yeah, I left my jewel at Lives House.
- 43:56That's true.
- 43:57So Lil Mariko is a screamo artist.
- 44:02She has rap, metal, hyperpop, techno influences.
- 44:08Her album -- I think it was just self-titled.
- 44:11Lil Mariko has amazing songs on there.
- 44:14If you just want some time with your girls to just listen to some like hyper-ass music,
- 44:20I definitely am putting some of her songs on the Bachelor at Party Playlist that I'm making right now.
- 44:26So again, my favorite is Hi,
- 44:28I'm a Slut.
- 44:29But then she also has one called --
- 44:31A multi-pop and slut.
- 44:32Yes.
- 44:33So the pop culture junkie playlist is going to have songs called High.
- 44:37I'm a slut and pussy poppin.
- 44:39Both from the married woman.
- 44:43She also has a song with Rico Nasty, my last artist, called Simp, which is hilarious.
- 44:49And she has a great song called Cat Boys.
- 44:52So check out Lil Mariko.
- 44:54My next artist is someone you might have heard of if you -- again, listen to country music --
- 45:01He is up and coming.
- 45:04His name is Zach Bryan.
- 45:06He is a 27-year-old American country singer-songwriter.
- 45:10He was actually born in —Okinawa.
- 45:15Cool.
- 45:16I'm sorry if I butchered that.
- 45:17He was born there because his family was active duty military.
- 45:21He grew up in Oklahoma.
- 45:23He also served in the Navy.
- 45:25His number one song is Something in the Orange, which is also my favorite song.
- 45:30And then another one of my favorite songs is Sun to Me, which is S-U-N, not S-O-N.
- 45:35But he's just -- he's so good.
- 45:37He has such a like old soul to him.
- 45:40And fun fact, he is actually dating Brittany, aka Chicken Fry, or whatever her name is.
- 45:46From Barstool.
- 45:48This one.
- 45:49They just started dating.
- 45:51Cool.
- 45:52So I think a lot of people are actually going to start to know him now because he's going to be associated with Barstool.
- 45:58Yeah.
- 45:59Yeah.
- 46:00Niha.
- 46:01Shit.
- 46:02Yeah.
- 46:03Chateaqra loves to like never be single as long as you like.
- 46:07It's like Ariana Grande.
- 46:10Yeah.
- 46:11Yeah, very similar.
- 46:13So my next one is going to be CIL C-I-L.
- 46:18She's super new.
- 46:19But she opened for Stevie Nix for a few nights.
- 46:24I actually first found her a shocker on TikTok.
- 46:27And she has a song called One More Shot.
- 46:30And it was her performing it.
- 46:32And it's about an ex-boyfriend.
- 46:35And like the video was when your ex-boyfriend shows up and you're singing this song.
- 46:39And it is, ooh, it's striking.
- 46:42And she's kind of got like a Stevie Nix sound.
- 46:45She's a pop and R and B singer.
- 46:47That is what she's kind of labeled as.
- 46:49She's like 20.
- 46:50She just got signed to a Warner Records.
- 46:53So she like hasn't even like really recorded anything outside of like demos.
- 46:58So I'm really, really excited to see that.
- 47:01I mean, opening for the Queen, Stevie Nix.
- 47:04I know.
- 47:05That's amazing.
- 47:06What a great start there.
- 47:07Yeah.
- 47:08Yeah, exactly.
- 47:09I love that.
- 47:10Do we want to kind of run through the rest of these rapid fire?
- 47:13Yeah, yeah.
- 47:14Let's go a little quicker with these.
- 47:16So my next two, we'll just go that way.
- 47:19The first band is called Twin Temple.
- 47:22I saw them open for Ghost.
- 47:24Fans of Alex Jones will know that he dedicated a whole segment on his show to how terrible they are.
- 47:31They are a duop band of the spooky variety, we'll just say.
- 47:40They're a husband, wife, duo.
- 47:42They record straight up rockabilly, duop music.
- 47:46But it is all dedicated to the big man downstairs.
- 47:51So check out Twin Temple.
- 47:55My last artist is called Haru Nemuri.
- 47:59She is a Japanese singer, songwriter and a poetry rapper.
- 48:04Her music is beautiful.
- 48:06I don't understand a thing she is saying.
- 48:09It's all in Japanese.
- 48:11It's J-pop rap with a little post hardcore mixed in there.
- 48:16She's currently based in Tokyo putting out amazing music.
- 48:19Definitely check her out.
- 48:20My favorite songs by her are Wrecked and Kick in the World.
- 48:24Again, unless you speak Japanese, you probably won't understand most of it, but it still slaps.
- 48:28My last artist is Lainey Wilson.
- 48:32She is an American country singer, songwriter, born in Louisiana.
- 48:38She is currently touring with Luke Bryan whenever he comes back from being sick and cancelling his shows.
- 48:44And her number one song is Heart Like a Truck.
- 48:47My favorite song by her is a duet with Hardy called Wait in the Truck.
- 48:52Her latest single is Watermelon Moonshine.
- 48:56Delicious.
- 48:58Another fun fact about her is that she plays in the hit show Yellowstone.
- 49:04I will say that, just kind of say, it's always fun listening to these upcoming artists.
- 49:11And then watching them become huge artists.
- 49:14I listen to them way before any of y'all were listening to them.
- 49:18That type of a competitors.
- 49:20I like her before she was on that Sam Spitt song.
- 49:24I love it.
- 49:26She's a Billy Eilish.
- 49:28Who are your final artists or artists?
- 49:30Olivia?
- 49:32My next one is going to be a small indie artist who names Taylor Swift.
- 49:36No, I'm just kidding.
- 49:38Shut the fuck up.
- 49:40And that about wraps up this episode.
- 49:44God damn it, she's doing it again.
- 49:46Fair warning.
- 49:50I was going to be the most annoying I've ever been on recording today.
- 49:54This is not the most annoying you've ever felt.
- 49:56Okay, you're supposed to agree with it.
- 49:58You know what?
- 50:00Now we're really done, no, I'm just kidding.
- 50:02Now our next song is going to be Caroline Polichak.
- 50:06And the big song she has right now is So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings.
- 50:10It's a banger.
- 50:12It's super good.
- 50:14I'm called chairlift as well.
- 50:16And you know, she's now lives in Brooklyn but is like a Connecticut girly.
- 50:22Love that.
- 50:24Those are always fun.
- 50:26Okay, all of our bands were all over the place and all of our artists I should say.
- 50:28We have like singer songwriters, rappers, country artists, spooky duop.
- 50:34It's going to be a bomb playlist.
- 50:36Lots of pussy poppin.
- 50:38Yeah.
- 50:40And trucks.
- 50:42Lots of songs about trucks.
- 50:44And mine are all about sludding it.
- 50:46Something for everyone.
- 50:48You get to see all of our personalities.
- 50:50And I love that.
- 50:52All right, well I think that just about wraps up this musical and dramatic episode of pop culture junkie.
