- 0:00So today we're spotlighting Dubai. It's really
- 0:03interesting because key leaders there are accelerating
- 0:07the Emirates green transition. Okay, so His Highness
- 0:11Sheikh Ahmed bin Syed Al Maktoum, he's the chairman
- 0:15of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy. Right,
- 0:18so he chaired the 92nd meeting of the council.
- 0:21It was held at the Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah
- 0:24Hotel. And His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al -Tayr,
- 0:28the vice chairman, was also there. And the meeting
- 0:31was also attended by His Excellency Ahmed Bouti
- 0:34al -Muheyarbi, who is the Secretary General of
- 0:37the Council. Yeah, and a whole list of other
- 0:40council members were there too, people like His
- 0:42Excellency Marwan bin Galita, His Excellency
- 0:45Abdullah bin Kalban, His Excellency Hussein Luta,
- 0:49Juan Pablo Freyle, and Muna al -Oseimi from the
- 0:52Roads and Transport Authority. Wow. So during
- 0:56the meeting, the council reviewed the performance
- 0:58of all these programs and projects that were
- 1:01completed back in 2025. This was all in line
- 1:05with their big framework for supporting clean
- 1:07energy and optimizing electricity and water consumption.
- 1:12But a real standout achievement they discussed
- 1:14was the operational performance of the Waste
- 1:18to Energy Center in Warsan. Okay, and get this,
- 1:21more than 4 .5 million tons of waste have been
- 1:25processed, and 62 % of that was diverted from
- 1:29landfill. I mean, this is just a massive step,
- 1:32especially with Dubai's goal of eliminating landfill
- 1:34sites by 2041. Right, and to build on this, they're
- 1:38launching a second phase later this year to expand
- 1:41the plant's waste processing capacity. Speaking
- 1:45on the strategic direction, His Excellency Saeed
- 1:48Mohammed Al -Tayyar had this to say. He said,
- 1:51and I'm paraphrasing a bit, in line with the
- 1:54vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid
- 1:56Al Maktoum, the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy
- 2:00continues to make Dubai a leading global model
- 2:03for sustainability. So during the meeting, they
- 2:07reviewed a bunch of strategic themes about accelerating
- 2:10carbon emission reduction and enhancing energy
- 2:13efficiency. The council is always assessing the
- 2:16annual performance of these programs and adding
- 2:19new elements to make sure they're continuously
- 2:21developing. He finished by saying their governance
- 2:25framework provides a, quote, advanced mechanisms
- 2:28to achieve strategic clean energy objectives
- 2:31and reduce carbon emissions. Then His Excellency
- 2:35Ahmed Bouti al -Muheyrabi elaborated on the tech
- 2:38side of things. He added, we continue to deploy
- 2:41the latest technologies to enhance waste treatment
- 2:45and reuse within a comprehensive strategy based
- 2:48on circular economy principles and private sector
- 2:51participation. So it all just underscores a really
- 2:55clear and determined path forward for Dubai.
- 2:58You've got this combination of high -level strategic
- 3:01governance with some pretty impressive technological
- 3:04innovation. So now here's a question for you
- 3:08to think about. As cities like Dubai invest so
- 3:11heavily in these huge, large -scale centralized
- 3:14solutions, what role should our individual and
- 3:17community -level recycling efforts still play
- 3:20in a truly circular economy?
