Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Now on The Voice of New York, it's the Mark
- 0:04Speaker 1: Simone Show on.
- 0:07Speaker 2: 710WOR.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Well, a lot to get to today. We'll go over this,
- 0:19Speaker 1: whatever that was last night. They call it a midterm convention.
- 0:23Speaker 1: It was a bit of a mess. We'll get to that.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Oil prices are spiking. Apple announced all kinds of new
- 0:30Speaker 1: products yesterday. We'll go over them. Jimmy Kimmel lashing out.
- 0:34Speaker 1: We'll get to him. We'll get to Crazy Mom Donnie.
- 0:37Speaker 1: The U.S. Open and more. It's Thursday. It's the day
- 0:42Speaker 1: before 9-11. Tomorrow, the ceremonies will take place. And by
- 0:47Speaker 1: the way, you don't want to be driving anywhere around
- 0:51Speaker 1: lower Manhattan. There's going to be a lot of street closures.
- 0:53Speaker 1: In fact, Below Canal Street, almost everything will be closed.
- 0:58Speaker 1: They'll be fencing all around the areas where the ceremony
- 1:01Speaker 1: will take place. It's going to be extremely high security.
- 1:08Speaker 1: It looks like J.D. Vance, the vice president, will be there.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Some ex-presidents will be there. George W. Bush, Obama. Who
- 1:20Speaker 1: else will be there? Bill Clinton will be there. Uh,
- 1:24Speaker 1: luckily not an ex-president, but, uh, some crazy woman who
- 1:27Speaker 1: always wanted to be president. Hillary Clinton will be there. Uh,
- 1:30Speaker 1: she's sometimes had some bad episodes at those 9-11 ceremonies.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Remember the time she passed out? Just passed out right there,
- 1:38Speaker 1: had to be carried away. But, uh, it'll be very
- 1:41Speaker 1: high security. Uh, Mayor Mamdani, and also tomorrow night's, uh,
- 1:44Speaker 1: Rosh Hashanah. So, uh, Mamdani.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Too many of our neighbors have been the victims of
- 1:50Speaker 3: anti-Semitic hate crimes, and too many are understandably afraid to
- 1:54Speaker 3: come together and celebrate openly. I want to speak directly
- 1:57Speaker 3: to our Jewish New Yorkers now. Your safety during these
- 2:00Speaker 3: sacred days is of the utmost importance to our administration,
- 2:03Speaker 3: and we will work tirelessly to ensure that you can
- 2:06Speaker 3: observe the holiday securely.
- 2:08Speaker 1: All right, that's very bizarre. The biggest anti-Semite of all,
- 2:12Speaker 1: a guy who ginned up these hate crimes, is working
- 2:15Speaker 1: to prevent these hate crimes. It's a little bit of
- 2:17Speaker 1: a catch-22 there, but okay. Now, 9-11 security.
- 2:22Speaker 3: The NYPD and Secret Service will be implementing heightened security measures.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Fencing will be installed to surround the memorial site and
- 2:29Speaker 3: other locations in Lower Manhattan. There will be security screening
- 2:32Speaker 3: for anyone invited to the memorial. And please remember that
- 2:35Speaker 3: this event is not open to the general public.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Wow.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Police Commissioner Tisch.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Preserving that history also means preserving its moral clarity. The
- 2:44Speaker 4: men who attacked this city were terrorists. The men and
- 2:49Speaker 4: women who ran into the towers to save innocent lives
- 2:52Speaker 4: were heroes. 25 years cannot be allowed to blur that
- 2:58Speaker 4: distinction and shame on those who do.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Well, so there'll be very, very heavy security and a
- 3:04Speaker 1: traffic nightmare, lower Manhattan. Tomorrow, the ceremony will take place.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Things start about 830. And it's the 25th anniversary, so
- 3:14Speaker 1: it'll be a little bigger than previous years. And that's
- 3:17Speaker 1: why you have all these ex-presidents coming in for this. Now,
- 3:23Speaker 1: the convention last night, whatever it was, I don't know
- 3:27Speaker 1: what it was last night. It was supposed to be
- 3:29Speaker 1: a midterm convention. You got a couple of problems. One,
- 3:33Speaker 1: the political convention in the presidential year, Democratic convention, Republican convention,
- 3:38Speaker 1: used to be a big deal. Three nights on television.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Full primetime coverage. Well, there's no such thing as primetime
- 3:45Speaker 1: in television anymore. People don't watch network television like they
- 3:48Speaker 1: used to. And even if you're on in primetime, you're
- 3:51Speaker 1: not getting a lot of viewers. Not a lot of
- 3:53Speaker 1: people are seeing you. You're lucky if you're getting 2
- 3:55Speaker 1: million people. Hannity's getting 3.5 million. So you're getting beaten
- 4:03Speaker 1: by cable news. Now, a few years ago, It was
- 4:08Speaker 1: about eight years ago. The network stopped covering the conventions
- 4:11Speaker 1: from 8 to midnight, and then it became 10 to 11, maybe,
- 4:16Speaker 1: some nights, and it became just the final night. So
- 4:19Speaker 1: the idea of doing the convention is a little outdated
- 4:23Speaker 1: as far as getting attention, but they did it yesterday.
- 4:26Speaker 1: President Trump came up with this idea for a midterm convention.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I don't know who scheduled it, but somebody needs to
- 4:33Speaker 1: get yelled at. They scheduled it against the NFL opening game.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Not just any game, it was the Super Bowl team's rematch.
- 4:43Speaker 1: It was a big deal. So it was a total
- 4:48Speaker 1: disaster as far as scheduling. And then the president made
- 4:54Speaker 1: a speech, but normally if you're going to do a
- 4:57Speaker 1: convention speech, it's a very tight, focused, well-written speech, powerful,
- 5:03Speaker 1: you know, makes a lot of impact. This was rambling.
- 5:07Speaker 1: It was way too long. It was an hour and
- 5:10Speaker 1: 47 minutes. It just went on and on. You can't
- 5:14Speaker 1: do a one hour, 47 minute speech. You just can't
- 5:17Speaker 1: do it. The convention hall was packed. I know they're
- 5:20Speaker 1: going to try to tell you there were so many
- 5:22Speaker 1: empty seats. If you look at those pictures, they're early
- 5:24Speaker 1: in the evening. It eventually did fill up. And, but again,
- 5:28Speaker 1: the speech was way too long. The big shock of
- 5:31Speaker 1: the night was a Democrat appeared, John Fetterman. John Fetterman
- 5:37Speaker 1: all of a sudden made an appearance, and that was
- 5:38Speaker 1: on video. There were a number of Republican speakers, and
- 5:41Speaker 1: one was going to be Senator Dave McCormick, the other
- 5:44Speaker 1: Pennsylvania senator who's become a good friend of President Trump's.
- 5:48Speaker 1: But to introduce him, instead of somebody coming out to
- 5:51Speaker 1: introduce him, a video started, and there was Fetterman, the Democrat,
- 5:56Speaker 1: At the Republican convention.
- 5:58Speaker 5: Yes, I'm Senator John Fetterman, Pennsylvania. Yes, I'm a Democrat.
- 6:03Speaker 5: Why am I here talking to you today? Because, well,
- 6:06Speaker 5: I'm a common sense Democrat. I'm always going to stand
- 6:10Speaker 5: with America. I'm always going to reject the extremes and
- 6:14Speaker 5: socialism and that anti-American way of life.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Well, I don't know what the backlash was going to
- 6:20Speaker 1: be from his fellow Democrats. It was quite a surprise.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Dave McCormick is.
- 6:25Speaker 5: The kind of senator that gets the job done and
- 6:28Speaker 5: he's going to fight for Pennsylvania. I'm proud to count
- 6:32Speaker 5: him as my friend. Right back over my shoulder. That's
- 6:36Speaker 5: the iconic U.S.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Steel Mill.
- 6:39Speaker 5: And that's exactly the kind of thing that we'll work
- 6:42Speaker 5: together and we'll work with President Trump to fight and
- 6:45Speaker 5: defend the steel way of life right here in the
- 6:48Speaker 5: Steel Valley. I have this opportunity to introduce this great American,
- 6:53Speaker 5: a great senator. And yes, he's in a different party,
- 6:56Speaker 5: but I'm proud to count him as my great friend.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a big deal in Pennsylvania, the steel industry
- 7:02Speaker 1: saving it. And these two guys did everything they could
- 7:05Speaker 1: to save it. So President's speech. Listen, there were some
- 7:09Speaker 1: great moments in that speech, some really great moments. But
- 7:12Speaker 1: just moments. It was an hour and 47 minutes. Way
- 7:16Speaker 1: too long.
- 7:18Speaker 6: Who feels Iran should not have a nuclear weapon?
- 7:26Speaker 1: You know, it happens to me all the time. Guys
- 7:29Speaker 1: come up. You know, I wish you didn't do the
- 7:31Speaker 1: war in Iran. Gasoline's up.
- 7:32Speaker 6: And I say, well, let me ask you just smart people.
- 7:36Speaker 6: Let me ask you, not too.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Many of them, by the way.
- 7:38Speaker 6: Let me ask you one question. Can Iran have a
- 7:42Speaker 6: nuclear weapon? Absolutely not. Well, then I'm right that I win.
- 7:46Speaker 7: Okay.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:48Speaker 1: It's still tricky. Gas is actually spiking right now. It
- 7:51Speaker 1: was up a little with the straight or Hormuz partially closed,
- 7:54Speaker 1: but now it's spiking. It's at, let me get the latest.
- 7:57Speaker 1: It was at 100. You know what? As we're speaking,
- 8:02Speaker 1: it dropped a little. It's 99, but still close to 100.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Brent crude. near 105. That's not good. So average gas
- 8:10Speaker 1: prices in America are up 13 cents from last week.
- 8:14Speaker 1: So there is a bit of a spike. Now, the
- 8:17Speaker 1: president now changing his tune a little in that he's
- 8:21Speaker 1: saying it's not going to come down until after the midterms.
- 8:24Speaker 1: He's probably right. And he explains that Iran, the only
- 8:31Speaker 1: strategy they have is keep this thing going through the
- 8:34Speaker 1: midterms and pray that the Democrats win. Because if the
- 8:37Speaker 1: Democrats win, they'll stop the war. They'll let Iran do
- 8:40Speaker 1: whatever the hell they want. And that's what Iran is
- 8:43Speaker 1: holding out for. They're getting killed militarily. They're getting crushed economically.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Why keep going? That's their hope, that Democrats will win
- 8:52Speaker 1: the midterm and go very easy on them and leave
- 8:55Speaker 1: them alone. But the president, again, long speech, got to
- 8:59Speaker 1: the Strait of Hormuz. The Hormuz Strait.
- 9:01Speaker 6: I think we should call the Hormuz Strait home.
- 9:05Speaker 1: We should call it the Trump strike. I should get
- 9:07Speaker 1: something out of it. The Trump strike. All right. Yeah, listen,
- 9:12Speaker 1: to the crowd in the room it played. I don't
- 9:14Speaker 1: know if that plays across America.
- 9:15Speaker 6: No matter how well you're doing, we seem not a president,
- 9:19Speaker 6: Democrat or Republican, almost never wins the midterms. We've got
- 9:23Speaker 6: to change that because we have something going that's so
- 9:26Speaker 6: good we can't let that.
- 9:28Speaker 1: String be broken.
- 9:33Speaker 6: So I'm asking you to pretend that I'm on the ballot.
- 9:38Speaker 1: I'm on the ballot.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I don't know. The problem is it's a rally speech.
- 9:43Speaker 1: It's a campaign speech. It's not exactly what you needed.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Fired up the crowd in the room. I guess the
- 9:51Speaker 1: purpose of that is these are all delegates. These are
- 9:54Speaker 1: the people you need to go back home and work
- 9:56Speaker 1: their ass off getting the vote out. They got to
- 9:59Speaker 1: work the phone. banks, knock on doors. So it's to
- 10:02Speaker 1: fire up the crowd in the room, get them really
- 10:05Speaker 1: hustling for the next couple of months in the election.
- 10:08Speaker 1: As far as getting votes, I don't know who saw this.
- 10:12Speaker 1: It was on Fox News. They weren't great about carrying it,
- 10:15Speaker 1: but you sort of preach into the choir there. I
- 10:18Speaker 1: would assume you already have those voters. As far as
- 10:22Speaker 1: independents seeing it, other voters seeing it, I don't know
- 10:25Speaker 1: where they're going to see it. I don't know how
- 10:27Speaker 1: they're going to see it. So overall, you've got to
- 10:31Speaker 1: say this whole thing was a bit of a dud.
- 10:33Speaker 1: There's a night two tonight. J.D. Vance will speak tonight,
- 10:38Speaker 1: but we'll get back to that. So 9-11, big ceremonies tomorrow.
- 10:45Speaker 1: The EPA files, the environmental files were released by Mom Donnie.
- 10:51Speaker 1: It's getting a little coverage. It's not getting the blockbuster
- 10:54Speaker 1: coverage you'd think it'd get. These files show that they
- 10:58Speaker 1: absolutely knew that the air was poisonous, toxic, that it
- 11:04Speaker 1: was going to hurt people, get them very sick, maybe
- 11:07Speaker 1: kill people, and they covered it up. They covered it up,
- 11:11Speaker 1: and it looks like they just were worried about liability,
- 11:15Speaker 1: that they didn't want to bankrupt the city with the lawsuit,
- 11:18Speaker 1: so they pretended the air was clean. It looks bad.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Mamdani might look like he did a noble thing, but
- 11:24Speaker 1: he did it for all the wrong reasons. He is
- 11:27Speaker 1: trying to just destroy the reputations of the Democrats, the Republicans,
- 11:31Speaker 1: the traditional guys, the Bloombergs, the Patakis, the Giulianis, all
- 11:36Speaker 1: of that. This is to destroy their reputation. But the report, very,
- 11:40Speaker 1: very damning.
- 11:41Speaker 6: The city was making a fiduciary choice to prioritize.
- 11:44Speaker 7: The economic stability of lower Manhattan.
- 11:46Speaker 6: Over the health and safety of the firefighters, the police officers.
- 11:49Speaker 6: the construction workers and the children that went back to
- 11:52Speaker 6: school down there.
- 11:54Speaker 1: So they just wanted everybody to keep working and covered
- 11:58Speaker 1: it up. So now we'll see. We'll see how big
- 12:02Speaker 1: this story gets. It's out there. It's getting covered, but
- 12:06Speaker 1: just barely, just barely. So we'll see if it mushrooms
- 12:09Speaker 1: into something bigger. Hey, you know, this Hunter Biden, this scamming, scheming,
- 12:15Speaker 1: influence peddling son of the former president, Hunter Biden, His
- 12:19Speaker 1: latest scheme was Bitcoin, not Bitcoin, but it was a
- 12:22Speaker 1: crypto coin. And he released his crypto yesterday. And if
- 12:27Speaker 1: you'll notice over the last week or two, he's done
- 12:29Speaker 1: a million interviews. He's been going on every show he
- 12:31Speaker 1: can get on promoting this crypto that he was launching yesterday.
- 12:36Speaker 1: And he launched it in lots of people. I don't
- 12:38Speaker 1: know who would be this nuts, but they jumped in
- 12:40Speaker 1: and bought the crypto. Lots of people bought it. And
- 12:44Speaker 1: by the end of the day, they all got wiped out.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 12:47Speaker 1: It was up to $ 300, and then it went down
- 12:49Speaker 1: to about $ 3. It was down, if you invested big,
- 12:53Speaker 1: you lost 99% on this Hunter crypto. Now, he could
- 12:58Speaker 1: have made a fortune. We don't know. His share, he's
- 13:02Speaker 1: given 33% of the coins. It's under lockup. He can't
- 13:07Speaker 1: sell it for six months, but... But under other names,
- 13:11Speaker 1: he might have jumped in and bought some. They are
- 13:13Speaker 1: looking at certain trades. Somebody jumped in at exactly the
- 13:17Speaker 1: right moment, jumped in with about $ 200, 000, caught the wave,
- 13:23Speaker 1: sold it for a million, and after fees, made about
- 13:28Speaker 1: an $ 850, 000 profit in one day. We don't know who
- 13:30Speaker 1: that was, but he could have done something like that.
- 13:33Speaker 1: But all the investors, most of them, almost all of them,
- 13:36Speaker 1: got completely wiped out. So, hey, Apple made the big
- 13:40Speaker 1: announcement yesterday, unveiling all these new products, the new iPhone
- 13:45Speaker 1: Pro 18. Incredible iPhone. It'll be the greatest phone ever.
- 13:50Speaker 1: All kinds of improvements. Huge battery life. They got a
- 13:54Speaker 1: battery that now can go about 35 hours, even watching video,
- 13:59Speaker 1: 40 hours. So huge development there. Real serious improvement in
- 14:05Speaker 1: the camera, which was already pretty phenomenal in the current iPhone.
- 14:10Speaker 1: So really improved camera. The big color will be the
- 14:14Speaker 1: dark cherry, the burgundy one. Screen is much better. They've
- 14:18Speaker 1: made it tougher than ever. The glass, the case. In fact,
- 14:21Speaker 1: they're telling you, you don't need to even put a
- 14:23Speaker 1: case on it. It's so strong. Price is up, not
- 14:27Speaker 1: as bad as everybody thought. It's about $ 1, 300 for the
- 14:30Speaker 1: Pro Max, the biggest one. The new Apple Watch, they claim,
- 14:35Speaker 1: has much better health tracking. If you're using your Apple
- 14:38Speaker 1: Watch to track things, it's pretty good with the heart
- 14:41Speaker 1: and the pulse and the blood oxygen. It stinks with
- 14:45Speaker 1: the sleep tracking. It's really off with the sleep tracking.
- 14:48Speaker 1: But the new Apple Watch will have a much better
- 14:50Speaker 1: sensor on it, so hopefully it's going to be more accurate.
- 14:54Speaker 1: The big announcement was this flip phone that you could
- 14:57Speaker 1: open up, this folding phone. So the iPhone folds open
- 15:02Speaker 1: into two halves, and it's a big screen. But it's basically,
- 15:06Speaker 1: when you open it up, exactly the same size as
- 15:09Speaker 1: the mini tablet. Exactly the same. So you've got the
- 15:11Speaker 1: mini tablet. That's all you need. Most critics looking at
- 15:16Speaker 1: all this said, get the new iPhone Pro. It's incredible.
- 15:22Speaker 1: You might want to avoid the folding phone. It's really
- 15:24Speaker 1: not that useful. Critics that have used it for a
- 15:26Speaker 1: couple weeks said, You'll really get tired of it after
- 15:30Speaker 1: a while. It's gimmicky. It's novel. It's great. Again, if
- 15:34Speaker 1: you want to watch movies, if you want to watch video,
- 15:37Speaker 1: just get the mini, the tablet, the mini. It's exactly
- 15:41Speaker 1: the same thing. The other problem with that foldable phone,
- 15:45Speaker 1: the inner workings of it, the battery is split into
- 15:47Speaker 1: two halves, one on each side. It makes it a
- 15:49Speaker 1: little less stable. It's thinner. It doesn't have the battery life,
- 15:54Speaker 1: but the iPhone... Pro-18, that's the one you want to get.
- 15:58Speaker 1: It's phenomenal. Hey, Benjamin Netanyahu suing an Israeli newspaper. You
- 16:04Speaker 1: remember that story came out that he was warned about
- 16:07Speaker 1: the October 7th attacks. He knew about it ahead of time.
- 16:10Speaker 1: He did nothing well. We got fake news here. They
- 16:13Speaker 1: got fake news over there. And the fake news hates Netanyahu.
- 16:17Speaker 1: They have Netanyahu derangement syndrome in the left wing over there.
- 16:21Speaker 1: And this is a left-wing newspaper, The Prince. So he's
- 16:23Speaker 1: suing them. He's filed a libel lawsuit against this left-wing
- 16:27Speaker 1: newspaper going after him. It's kind of what you have
- 16:31Speaker 1: to do now since we went into this fake news
- 16:34Speaker 1: era when Trump came along 10 years ago, and it
- 16:37Speaker 1: didn't stop 11 years ago, and it kept going. They
- 16:40Speaker 1: just feel free to run all kinds of fake news.
- 16:42Speaker 1: New York Times gets caught all the time. ABC, NBC,
- 16:46Speaker 1: they get caught with fake stuff. So what can you
- 16:49Speaker 1: do about it? You can have the FCC try to
- 16:51Speaker 1: go after him. We'll get to that a little later, but...
- 16:54Speaker 1: Trump has been suing. He collected $ 15 million from ABC.
- 16:58Speaker 1: He got like $ 20 million from CBS. He's going after
- 17:01Speaker 1: NBC now. All he can do is keep suing them
- 17:03Speaker 1: and taking money from them just so they realize it's
- 17:06Speaker 1: a dangerous business model for them. That's the only thing
- 17:09Speaker 1: that's probably going to stop him. Anyway, we've got a
- 17:11Speaker 1: lot to get to. We'll get to Jimmy Kimmel and
- 17:14Speaker 1: his angry ranting. We'll get to the U.S. Open and more.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Coming up, Mark Simone here, 9 to noon. It's three
- 17:22Speaker 1: hours every day. 9 to noon every day here on 710WOR.
- 17:28Speaker 6: It's the Mark Simone Show.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Live from the WOR LifeVac studios. Wow. Now, it's still summer.
- 17:38Speaker 1: In fact, it's going to be a hot day today.
- 17:39Speaker 1: It's going to be upper 80s. It's going to be humid.
- 17:42Speaker 1: It's still summer. I know it doesn't feel like it,
- 17:44Speaker 1: but it's still summer until about two weeks from today. Well, actually,
- 17:50Speaker 1: two weeks from yesterday is the first day From fall,
- 17:54Speaker 1: two weeks from yesterday, first day of fall. So it's
- 17:57Speaker 1: still summer. Enjoy it. I'm on Instagram. You know, you
- 18:00Speaker 1: see all these influences telling you, six things to do
- 18:04Speaker 1: this summer, six things to do on the beach. All right,
- 18:09Speaker 1: now you go on Instagram. It's all the fall stuff.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Here's where to go apple picking. Who the hell wants
- 18:14Speaker 1: to go apple picking? This is a big thing in
- 18:17Speaker 1: the fall. You know, if you go to Whole Foods,
- 18:19Speaker 1: go to Wegman's. Go to any supermarket. You walk in,
- 18:24Speaker 1: there's 17 kinds of apples right there in the front.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Go apple picking there. You don't have to drive out
- 18:30Speaker 1: to the North Fork of Long Island or way up
- 18:32Speaker 1: to Westchester to go apple picking. The other one is
- 18:36Speaker 1: pumpkin picking. If you live in the suburbs, as soon
- 18:39Speaker 1: as you get to the supermarket, right in front, there's
- 18:41Speaker 1: a display of pumpkins. You can pick them right there. Well,
- 18:45Speaker 1: it's fun to go actually pick your own apples. No,
- 18:47Speaker 1: it's not. Let a professional, let a professional pick them
- 18:51Speaker 1: and clean them and put them, you don't realize they
- 18:53Speaker 1: have wax in them. They look much better that way
- 18:56Speaker 1: than if you actually pick them up with, they got
- 18:57Speaker 1: bugs crapping all over them. Anyway, so, hey, speaking of Instagram,
- 19:03Speaker 1: the administration, the Mamdani administration, the crazy little Mamdani administration,
- 19:10Speaker 1: there's an office, a city office that, I forget what
- 19:13Speaker 1: they call it. It's the press office. And they're the
- 19:16Speaker 1: ones that give out the press passes. So when you
- 19:20Speaker 1: go to an event where there's a police line or something,
- 19:22Speaker 1: if you got that press pass, you can cross the
- 19:24Speaker 1: police line and they give it to the reporters of
- 19:27Speaker 1: Channel 4, Channel 5. They give it to WOR reporters.
- 19:31Speaker 1: They give it to the newspaper reporters. They have these
- 19:34Speaker 1: press passes. They're hanging around. Well, it turns out there's
- 19:38Speaker 1: a little bit of a scandal brewing. The Mamdani administration,
- 19:41Speaker 1: instead of handing them out to real, actual professional reporters
- 19:45Speaker 1: and journalists, they've been handing them out to Instagram influencers.
- 19:50Speaker 1: you know, like goofy 20-something influencers who happen to like Mamdani.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Most of these, there's some serious influencers out there, but
- 20:01Speaker 1: many of them are just goofy 20-something women. And it
- 20:06Speaker 1: turns out, you know, the Luigi Mangione trial, they got
- 20:09Speaker 1: these Luigi fangirls who are absolutely nuts. Many of them
- 20:14Speaker 1: showing up with official New York City press passes around
- 20:18Speaker 1: their neck, able to cross the police lines. This is
- 20:22Speaker 1: thanks to the Mamdani administration. So City Council Julie Menon,
- 20:29Speaker 1: very powerful City Council speaker. And you know what? She
- 20:31Speaker 1: used to run the press office years ago. So she
- 20:34Speaker 1: knows about this stuff. She is pushing back on this,
- 20:37Speaker 1: cracking down on this. So you may see some action
- 20:41Speaker 1: taken against Mom Donnie. Now, Jimmy Kimmel, he's out. He's gone.
- 20:49Speaker 1: He's going to finish up this season. Remember they used
- 20:53Speaker 1: to have TV seasons? Remember you'd watch TV? Coming this
- 20:57Speaker 1: fall to ABC. Season premiere of this. Well, there is,
- 21:02Speaker 1: but nobody notices anymore. Did you know it's a new
- 21:04Speaker 1: TV season? Yeah, it actually started this week. So it's
- 21:08Speaker 1: the new season of TV shows, including Jimmy Kimmel. And
- 21:12Speaker 1: the season ends in May. And then that's the end
- 21:15Speaker 1: of Kimmel. He'll go away. They're not giving him a contract.
- 21:18Speaker 1: ABC is trying to half deny this is what's happening.
- 21:22Speaker 1: But it's true. He will not be back. He's wrapping
- 21:25Speaker 1: up his final season right now. So he's back, and
- 21:29Speaker 1: last night went into a tirade. Believe it or not,
- 21:34Speaker 1: this guy's been on 24 years. It's hard to believe. Actually,
- 21:37Speaker 1: it's almost 25 years. He's done 4,000 shows. So he
- 21:41Speaker 1: came out swinging last night. He said, we've done 4,000
- 21:44Speaker 1: of these. That's a lot of shows. According to this
- 21:47Speaker 1: White House, it's too many shows. There are those who
- 21:51Speaker 1: said we would never last this long. Well, okay, you
- 21:55Speaker 1: did 24 years, but you also went from regular late
- 21:58Speaker 1: night ratings to the lowest ratings in the history of
- 22:00Speaker 1: late night. You really, really, really took the viewership down
- 22:05Speaker 1: to the lowest numbers ever in the history of late night,
- 22:08Speaker 1: which is why they're not renewing it. So he forgot
- 22:10Speaker 1: to mention that. He said, there are those who would
- 22:13Speaker 1: never think we'd stay on the air. There are even
- 22:16Speaker 1: those who use the regulatory might of the FCC to
- 22:20Speaker 1: unconstitutionally try to make sure we didn't last well past.
- 22:24Speaker 1: This guy's not exactly a constitutional scholar, so don't take
- 22:28Speaker 1: his word for that. But we did it the hard way, Brendan.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I don't know what the hard way was. He did
- 22:35Speaker 1: it the same as every other late night host. And
- 22:38Speaker 1: we are still here. Well, actually, you just got canceled
- 22:40Speaker 1: pretty much. You're wrapping up your final season. Kimmel went
- 22:44Speaker 1: after Donald Trump. He said, you know, Donald, you and
- 22:48Speaker 1: I have one thing in common. We both accomplished nothing
- 22:51Speaker 1: all summer long. Kimmel was on vacation all summer. He
- 22:56Speaker 1: went after inflation, Trump's approval numbers, the reflection pool, the
- 23:00Speaker 1: war in Iran. Well, this is why he took it
- 23:02Speaker 1: down to the lowest numbers in history. He's supposed to
- 23:06Speaker 1: do comedy. It's 1130 at night. See, the whole idea
- 23:09Speaker 1: that when they created The Tonight Show, Steve Allen created it,
- 23:12Speaker 1: Jack Parr, Johnny, the idea was you have some laughs,
- 23:16Speaker 1: it's entertainment, lighthearted, you laugh just before you go to sleep.
- 23:21Speaker 1: this guy and Colbert changed it into screaming, angry, vicious, political.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Let's get you riled up. We want you as mad
- 23:28Speaker 1: as can be before you go to sleep. Uh, the
- 23:31Speaker 1: formula didn't work. Uh, Colbert canceled, no ratings, uh, Kimmel
- 23:37Speaker 1: in his final season, having to wrap it up. So, uh,
- 23:40Speaker 1: when Colbert went off, they put on Byron Allen's comics unleashed,
- 23:43Speaker 1: which is actual comedians just doing comedy, just getting laughs
- 23:47Speaker 1: and funny. It's crushing comedy. Kimmel and Fallon in 18-49.
- 23:53Speaker 1: That's the demo they want, 18-49. It's crushing them in
- 23:58Speaker 1: the ratings, so look for ABC to do the same thing. Hey,
- 24:01Speaker 1: we've got a lot to get to, and we'll take
- 24:02Speaker 1: some calls coming up on 710WOR. What's better than two
- 24:07Speaker 1: hours of Mark Simone? Three!
- 24:10Speaker 6: The Mark Simone Show, now nine till noon weekdays, 710WOR.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Hey, we'll take some calls. 800-321-0710 is the number. 800-321-0710.
- 24:28Speaker 1: So the U.S. Open underway. It's on until the 13th.
- 24:33Speaker 1: When is that? I think that's Sunday. And I can't watch.
- 24:37Speaker 1: I like playing tennis. I can't sit there and watch
- 24:41Speaker 1: it on TV. He hits the ball. This guy hits
- 24:44Speaker 1: the ball. That guy hits the ball. It just keeps
- 24:46Speaker 1: going back and forth. Oh, there's exciting moments, but then.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Uh, now the most exciting moment yesterday, uh, the player,
- 24:54Speaker 1: she stops and starts yelling at a fan. Will you
- 24:58Speaker 1: stop smoking that weed? I don't want to get high.
- 25:01Speaker 1: You know, you're living in a different world right now.
- 25:04Speaker 1: You walk down the street, even right over there, 57th street,
- 25:07Speaker 1: walk up the block. Luckily I have allergies. I can't
- 25:10Speaker 1: smell a thing, but everybody tells me the whole block
- 25:12Speaker 1: smells like weed everywhere you go, the smell of pot
- 25:15Speaker 1: in the air. So apparently, uh, It was all over
- 25:18Speaker 1: the court at the U.S. Open, thanks to these people smoking. And, again,
- 25:22Speaker 1: she's a top athlete, doesn't want to get high while
- 25:24Speaker 1: she's playing, stops to scream at the fans. And they
- 25:27Speaker 1: said they'll put it out. They'll stop. Let's take some calls.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Let's go to Mike in Florida. Mike, how are you doing?
- 25:35Speaker 8: Good morning, Mark.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Yes, Mike. We get excited here, or we get upset
- 25:38Speaker 1: when the summer's over. If you're in Florida, it's a
- 25:41Speaker 1: great time, right? Because now it's not 100 degrees.
- 25:44Speaker 8: I'm counting the days until it's below 90 degrees.
- 25:48Speaker 1: See, they're happy when the summer's over. But what do
- 25:50Speaker 1: you want to say, Mike?
- 25:52Speaker 8: Well, two quick things. One, last night's event, I think,
- 25:56Speaker 8: you know, if we think of it in terms of
- 25:57Speaker 8: a convention, that's just a word.
- 25:59Speaker 2: You know, it's really, it's a rally.
- 26:00Speaker 8: And you've mentioned it before. Getting Republicans out to vote
- 26:04Speaker 8: is the biggest problem. And I think that's why they're
- 26:06Speaker 8: doing it. You need to get them out to vote.
- 26:08Speaker 8: Forget about the other side. You know, they're going to
- 26:10Speaker 8: do what they're going to do. It's our side, the
- 26:12Speaker 8: Republican side, I should say. You know, they're lazy about
- 26:16Speaker 8: getting out to vote, good times or bad times. So
- 26:18Speaker 8: I think it was really more like a pep rally.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Than it is.
- 26:20Speaker 1: All right, well, that's a good point.
- 26:22Speaker 8: I'm not going to call it that.
- 26:23Speaker 1: People say it didn't really get seen anywhere except Fox,
- 26:26Speaker 1: and they already have those. But you're right. It's to
- 26:28Speaker 1: get them out to vote. And the people in the
- 26:30Speaker 1: hall are the delegates. You need them to really go
- 26:32Speaker 1: work their ass off.
- 26:32Speaker 8: Exactly. They have to go back and pound the pavement,
- 26:35Speaker 8: as you said. You know, you've been on that forever
- 26:37Speaker 8: about that. Republicans low turnout to begin with. And the
- 26:41Speaker 8: other thing about these EPA, EPA, EPA files that Mamdani
- 26:45Speaker 8: is going to release or has released, I think they're
- 26:48Speaker 8: waiting till after the nine 11 events, obviously, because it's
- 26:51Speaker 8: a solemn occasion. And, and then, you know, and like
- 26:55Speaker 8: mid October, as it gets closer to midterms, they're going
- 26:57Speaker 8: to find the connection between Julia, you know, because Giuliani
- 27:00Speaker 8: is going to end up being the bad guy. You
- 27:02Speaker 8: know that even though they're all Democrats in power, you
- 27:05Speaker 8: know uh julia and they're going to connect that to
- 27:07Speaker 8: trump and blah blah you know you can see the
- 27:08Speaker 8: dominoes being lined up so they can knock over the
- 27:11Speaker 8: first one and make republicans yeah.
- 27:13Speaker 1: But yeah remember just as much blame will go to
- 27:15Speaker 1: the state uh it's george pataki just as much blame
- 27:18Speaker 1: will go to the federal government they're the epa and
- 27:20Speaker 1: the uh yes epa and commissioner at the time christy
- 27:24Speaker 1: todd women made that statement don't worry the air is
- 27:26Speaker 1: safe she's Since apologized, but that's going to haunt her
- 27:29Speaker 1: for the rest of her life.
- 27:30Speaker 8: But we shouldn't forget that there were many, you know,
- 27:33Speaker 8: all the senators from New York were Democrats. You know,
- 27:36Speaker 8: the governor, you know, Cuomo was a governor. Obama was president.
- 27:41Speaker 8: You know, so there's lots of, but, you know, they're
- 27:44Speaker 8: framing it so the Republicans are going to be the
- 27:46Speaker 8: bad guys. I can see it coming.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Yeah. All right.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Thanks for calling. I just think Mamdani wants to bring
- 27:52Speaker 1: down all of them. Giuliani. Bloomberg, all the establishment, Pataki.
- 28:00Speaker 1: It just wants to destroy them all. So the crazy
- 28:02Speaker 1: socialists will, by comparison, they always suffer when compared to
- 28:07Speaker 1: these great establishment leaders. So he's trying to destroy them.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Let's go to David in Manhattan. David, how are you doing?
- 28:15Speaker 2: Good morning. Thank you very much, sir. I just wanted
- 28:17Speaker 2: to hear your opinion on President Trump saying how great
- 28:20Speaker 2: the neo-Nazi party in Germany was. It seems advance, musk,
- 28:25Speaker 2: and Rubio have a soft spot for them, too.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Well, nobody has denounced Nazis, neo-Nazis, more than Donald Trump.
- 28:31Speaker 1: You can check the record. Nobody's denounced him more than
- 28:33Speaker 1: he has.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Yeah, but he said that the party's going to make.
- 28:36Speaker 1: This is like a Charlottesville all over again. Remember when
- 28:38Speaker 1: they doctored up the tape where he said, there's very
- 28:41Speaker 1: fine people on both sides. And that was it. They
- 28:47Speaker 1: cut out the next sentence where he says, I'm not
- 28:48Speaker 1: talking about the neo-Nazis. They're to be totally condemned. Nobody
- 28:52Speaker 1: has denounced Nazis, neo-Nazis, Nobody has denounced David Duke more
- 28:57Speaker 1: than Donald Trump. You can check the video, as they'd say.
- 29:02Speaker 1: And nobody has fought, no president has ever, ever, ever
- 29:06Speaker 1: fought harder for Jews, for Israel, than Donald Trump. Let's
- 29:10Speaker 1: go to Joseph in Manhattan. Joseph, how are you doing?
- 29:15Speaker 7: Okay, Mark. Good morning to you. Mark, there was no
- 29:18Speaker 7: World Trade Center tower security. Remember Philippe Petit, the French president?
- 29:24Speaker 7: high-wire stunt, their little walker, his group was allowed to
- 29:29Speaker 7: get their equipment into the World Trade Center.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Towers, hook up the wires between the towers. Tremendous amount
- 29:36Speaker 1: of world trade security. You know, there were 25 cops
- 29:38Speaker 1: assigned to the perimeter. at all times back then. 25 cops.
- 29:44Speaker 7: But he got in!
- 29:46Speaker 1: Yeah, well, you're talking about an incident in, what, 1973?
- 29:48Speaker 1: And there were.
- 29:51Speaker 7: No security cameras on top of those two roof towers
- 29:54Speaker 7: showing them?
- 29:55Speaker 1: You're talking about an incident in 1973... One incident in
- 29:59Speaker 1: 40 years. That's a pretty good track record for the security.
- 30:02Speaker 1: That's a very good track record.
- 30:06Speaker 7: It should have been stopped.
- 30:09Speaker 1: That's why I always tell you, don't debate anybody. Don't
- 30:12Speaker 1: argue with anybody. There's nothing you can say to this guy.
- 30:15Speaker 1: He'll just keep parroting this. He'll just keep repeating over
- 30:17Speaker 1: and over. He'll keep repeating the same comment. Again, if
- 30:20Speaker 1: you had one guy, and that was a harmless guy.
- 30:24Speaker 1: It was just a stunt. But that was one incident
- 30:26Speaker 1: in 40, 50 years. It's not a bad track record.
- 30:28Speaker 1: There was a lot of security in the World Trade
- 30:30Speaker 1: Center that day. And there were 25 NYPD officers assigned
- 30:35Speaker 1: to patrol the perimeter of the World Trade Center. And
- 30:38Speaker 1: that's why terrorists, after carefully studying the thing, they plotted
- 30:43Speaker 1: this for a couple of years. That's why they realized
- 30:45Speaker 1: they'd have to do it from the air. That's the
- 30:47Speaker 1: only way they could pull it off. So tomorrow, 9-11, very, very,
- 30:53Speaker 1: very sad day. I don't like going through this every year.
- 30:56Speaker 1: And remember, I've asked on the program a number of times,
- 30:58Speaker 1: when does this stop? When do we stop reliving this? Well,
- 31:02Speaker 1: I checked with people in Hawaii. Apparently, they still do
- 31:05Speaker 1: it every Pearl Harbor anniversary. They still do a huge,
- 31:09Speaker 1: solemn ceremony. It's a big deal in Hawaii. It's on
- 31:12Speaker 1: television all over the place in Hawaii. In fact, they'll
- 31:17Speaker 1: do it this December 7th. It'll be the first year
- 31:20Speaker 1: that there's not a single survivor left. It's 85 years later,
- 31:24Speaker 1: but they'll do it. Do it this year. You know
- 31:26Speaker 1: that actually Japanese leaders fly in for that ceremony? They
- 31:30Speaker 1: offer apologies and all sorts of stuff, but they participate
- 31:34Speaker 1: in it. It's every year. So this 9-11 ceremony, I
- 31:37Speaker 1: guess if that's Pearl Harbor is the example, we'll be
- 31:40Speaker 1: doing this forever. Hey, we got a lot coming up.
- 31:44Speaker 1: We got two more hours to go and a lot
- 31:45Speaker 1: to get to. You know, this is WOR with the
- 31:49Speaker 1: best lineup in talk. We have the biggest names in
- 31:52Speaker 1: talk radio. literally the most listened to talk show host
- 31:55Speaker 1: in the world. Buck and Clay coming up at noon.
- 31:58Speaker 1: You know, they got up 10 million listeners. Did you
- 32:00Speaker 1: see the huge article in the Wall Street Journal about them?
- 32:03Speaker 1: Then you got the single most listened to radio show
- 32:06Speaker 1: on earth, Sean Hannity, 16 and a half million listeners.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Sean Hannity at three. You got Jesse Kelly at six.
- 32:13Speaker 1: You got Jimmy Fallon, one of the best known names
- 32:15Speaker 1: there is out there. Great comedian. Actually, he'll be with
- 32:18Speaker 1: us later in the show, but he's on nine to midnight.
- 32:22Speaker 1: And I'm on 9 to noon now, 9 a.m. to
- 32:24Speaker 1: noon every day here on 710WOR. What's better than two
- 32:29Speaker 1: hours of Mark Simone?
- 32:31Speaker 8: Three!
- 32:31Speaker 1: The Mark Simone Show. Now 9 till noon weekdays.
- 32:35Speaker 8: 710WOR.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Well, hey, it's going to be a hot day today.
- 32:43Speaker 1: It's going to be maybe in the upper 80s. It'll
- 32:46Speaker 1: be humid. There's a little chance of rain very, very
- 32:49Speaker 1: late tonight. But then it's going to be nice most
- 32:51Speaker 1: of the weekend. Friday, Saturday, it'll be about 80 degrees
- 32:54Speaker 1: and sunny. There could be some rain on Sunday. Hey,
- 32:58Speaker 1: we've got a lot to get to in the next hour.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Don't forget, it's three hours now, 9 to noon every day.
- 33:04Speaker 1: 9 a.m. till noon every day. And then... Coming up
- 33:09Speaker 1: in the next hour, we've got a lot to talk about.
- 33:11Speaker 1: We'll get to those crazy Mamdani grocery stores. We'll get
- 33:14Speaker 1: back to Apple. We'll get to the convention or whatever
- 33:19Speaker 1: it was last night, convention slash rally, and more coming
- 33:23Speaker 1: up right after the news. Mark Simone here on 710WOR.
