Thanks so much for coming on Soul Barbra: Well, it's a pleasure, so I'm looking forward to it. Kara Goodwin: too. And I wanna start by just talking about your journey and how you got into psychic and mediumship work that you're doing today. Barbra: Well, I was, um, I was
• 2:00
pointed in this direction later in life, um, very much later in life after a wonderful career in advertising. And it just seems that all of my volunteer projects. Um, when I look back, uh, a crisis hotline for women, uh, you know, the ER and, uh, a, a crisis response team for the city where I, I went on the scene with a, there was a, a deceased body there in the family that I helped, uh, work with. Um, I didn't think anything of it. And once. The paranormal storm happened in my house with things flying off the shelf, uh, fans going on, orbs flying around in a video I had just shot, and, uh, it, and lights flashing. It was, I just realized the other side is asking me to pay attention. So I took a class from Suzanne

Geman and hit the ground running. Kara Goodwin: I love her. So that psychic storm happened Barbra: All at once. Kara Goodwin: and had you moved, okay, had you moved homes Barbra: I've been here like 40 years. No, I haven't. And Kara Goodwin: happened Spontaneously. Barbra: when I finished all the training for, you know, for doing that and I just. It was crazy, but it was exciting because I'd always been interested, you know, when I was younger, I, uh, watched Sylvia Brown, uh, site, uh, mediums and John Edwards and so it's always been cool. So I wasn't afraid, but it was, it was all at once. Yeah, it was crazy. Kara Goodwin: And it was after your training with Suzanne. Barbra: Uh, like five years ago, I've been doing this five years ago, and when I got into her class, I, I had never even meditated before. I mean,
• 4:00
I was, I was fresh and raw. Um, and within like the next day or so, I was seeing my father on the other side. So it wasn't until later when people started channeling for me that they said, you've been doing this about a thousand years. So that's why. So it looks like they put me on ice, spear, put me on ice for like my whole life almost, and then decided when the pandemic came, let's get her out of the deep freeze guys. Let's put, let's put her to work. Kara Goodwin: I love that analogy. Well, so what do you attribute to all of that phenomenon that showed up in, or phenomena that showed up in your home? Because it's to go from like, not a lot to that happening all at once. Did you, how did you feel about that? Were you you Barbra: No, it was, Kara Goodwin: Did Barbra: was excited. Luckily my husband was home for the, the lights in the two rooms simultaneously and the, the
• 5:00
fans going, I mean, it was going so fast. I thought, you know, we were gonna be decapitated. It was crazy. And so he saw it, so he didn't think I was crazy. But anybody I would say that to, just, yeah, okay, all right. You better lay off the cooking wine, you know, but it wasn't, uh, I'm just glad he saw it, so, uh, he understood that, that I had to do something about it. If they could do all this, I don't wanna be on the bad side of him. Kara Goodwin: And you felt that that was your team who was communicating with you or, or did of Barbra: Well, my father had passed, I figured, okay, he's gotta be behind this because there were a lot of hangup phone calls, you know, on my business line for years. And when I would press, you know, dial it back, this number doesn't exist. So, uh, I, I figured he's behind it and my grandmother. Now I didn't
• 6:00
find out till, um, my mother was almost 104, that my grandmother had a gift as well. You know, they didn't talk about it in those days. And when I went to tell my mom, mom, I gotta tell you this. I don't know how you're gonna take it. It might send you right over the edge at your age. I'm, I'm doing mediumship now, and I, I, I didn't know what to say to you. She goes, your grandmother was dragging me to fortune tellers and, and, and tea leaf readers. And tarot and psychics when I was a kid. Come on, we're going, but I wanna take ballet. No, you're coming with me. So I said. And she said people were lining up to talk to her as well because she was so intuitive. I said, mom, you're almost 104. What were you waiting for? Kara Goodwin: Yeah. Barbra: So if I wouldn't have mentioned it, I would never have known I, Kara Goodwin: amazing.
• 7:00
So let's go back to your. world training and the, the interest that you had in terms of you wanted to help people on Barbra: yes. Kara Goodwin: being on the scene when people were dealing with, um, the, i, you know, Barbra: Immediately, right? Kara Goodwin: ones. there any bleed through with those types of, jobs and this spiritual work that you were doing? Barbra: uh, believe me, the city of Los Angeles was not gonna have, you know, one of the team members come and start, you know, saying, well, your uncle's. Right here now, and he's fine. I, I, that was not my job. I was there for, you know, mental health support and physical support and that's, that was it. So I, they knew that that was, it wasn't, it was inappropriate if they started, you know, making contact with me at that point. So that was separate. Kara Goodwin:
• 8:00
Oh, interesting. you know, dealing with grief and helping people to connect with their lost loved ones can be really, you know, sorrow, sorrowful. but I know that you place a lot of importance on laughter and lightness in your work, so talk about that balance and why that's so important in Barbra: Well, laughter is, uh, nature's painkiller. Uh, it, it releases endorphins and then, and then, you know, serotonin and dopamine, all the things that, not only dull pain, but but our mood enhancers. So I like to bring a little lightness in. I mean, I, I, I do read the room. My daughter said, mom, you better read the room 'cause. Um, and see the, see the, how they react in my, um, little opening,
• 9:00
um, saying, and if they're smiling, which, um, most people do, I know I can, I can bring that in a little. Um, because the one thing that, that lowers the vibration and makes it harder for spirit to come through is a low vibration, is grief. Grief is like down at the bottom. So if I can sort of raise it, um, in the reading and, you know, give them hope and, you know, hopefully the evidence and the, uh, validations, we'll, we'll do that on their own. But I want, I wanna start it as, as, as nicely as I can and as open, just because it's, it's a better reading than when somebody is, is. Really, really, really in one of those waves of grief. Kara Goodwin: Hmm. Right. Well, you know,
• 10:00
stories help us to connect deeper with the of, uh, of our loved ones surviving death. So, do you have any client stories that you'd wanna share that in terms of receiving messages from the other Barbra: Yes, I do. And I might even have a, a little photo or something later. Um, so one of the ones I'm cer I'm certified with, with helping parents heal and, uh, mark Ireland's, um, find a certified medium and Suzanne refers people to those, uh, sites to, to find a medium. Um, right when I was. Not, you know, maybe two, two and a half years into it, I was reading a, um, uh, a woman who just lost her 6-year-old son. And during my readings, um, I offered question and answer. And the first question I say, I'm hijacking
• 11:00
it because. I don't wanna know what the question is. Okay. I, I don't want my head involved at all. Nothing good happens when I'm thinking. Um, so I said, just think of a question for your son. Don't tell me what it is and I'll tell you what I see. Um, and so I say, I see your son writing on the back of a giant butterfly. In heaven and she starts sobbing. And I said, oh my God, does, does this have anything to do with your question? And she said, oh my gosh. Absolutely. So then she tells me the story that when her son died, um, she needed, she bought a book for her younger daughter. To explain death to her in a way that she would understand it. And in this book, one of the pages had a picture of a little boy writing on the back of a
• 12:00
butterfly, the exact thing I showed her in my mind that was a game changer for me and the way I could make her feel or spirit. I'm just the vessel, um, the way. It affected her and lifted her and gave her hope, and realized, oh my gosh, he, I said, he's the one who put the question in your head, and that's why. So he's with you and he's helping you and your intuition. They can tell you things. So always follow your intuition. And uh, and she said, and obvi, he was there when I read the story to her. Oh my God, it just was so touching. That was, you know, people say, what was a pivot point? What was a, something? I said that, that is definitely, I think my number one that affected me to see how we can help.
• 13:00
How mediumship can really help someone in the worst physical and mental pain of their lives. Um, I have some very funny, uh, guides and, uh, we're together for a reason. So, uh, another, this is a funny one. Another, um, young girl. She was probably in her twenties and she wanted me to bring her father in, which I did. And I said, okay, think of a question. I don't wanna know. So I said, okay, we're in a little boat. Spirit likes to have like a prop, okay, because we're all here, uh, acting in a play. Um, I said, there's a, there's a little dinghy and on a crystal clear, beautiful lake, and you're rowing in the front, which is the usual. And then your father showing me, he's in the back rowing as well to support you and to keep you in line. And I said, but there's a man between you. And your father's getting up and he just threw 'em overboard and he's
• 14:00
saying, let's go. I'm not picking him up. And I, he goes, no, let's go now. Come on. And I just started, I said, what is going on? What was the question? And she said, I asked my dad, do you like my new boyfriend? So I get things that are hilarious, you know, and that helps the client too. And I had nothing to do with it. So there are things that just come through and they, if your loved one was humorous and fun and had great sense of humor on when they were alive, they are the same essence. As their, when they passed over and they come up with some really interesting, uh, interesting, um, scenarios. I'll give you one and then we can do one for something. Other thing. Uh, this is also a question. What? I didn't know what it was. Uh, so,
• 15:00
uh, uh, I say, okay, uh, spirit is showing me. Your son, he was in his late twenties, is scratched up his whole body in a glass jar, big glass jar. Really weird, you know, just every, he's all squished in with a cap. Um, and something you'd see up on the, the shelf of a, uh, a mad scientist. Okay? I said, does that mean anything? Now, this will show you that if you're not open, you're not, if you don't believe, you're not gonna receive. And I said, does this have anything to do with your question? And she said, absolutely not. I don't, that's really weird. I dunno what you're talking about. I said, well, what was the question? She said, well, my, my son's favorite band. We, uh, my husband and I got tickets and we wanted to go to the, the event, uh, he had already passed. And she said, and we brought a jar of his
• 16:00
cremation ashes in a jar to sprinkle around the venue. And I said, hold on. You don't see that your son showing up in a jar and the fact that you actually brought a jar of your son to the venue, you don't, you don't, you don't get it. She said, oh, so he was there. So it's really, you gotta be open because. That wasn't a big leap, but if you're not thinking that way, it's, don't, so I, I have so many of those stories, but, it's fascinating and it's so helpful. I just love when people say I am feel so much better, um, leaving than when I came. You know, I have hope and I know he's
• 17:00
around me now. I know he's around me. Kara Goodwin: Right. Well, and it's interesting, you know, how our, our different minds work because some people's minds are just so literal and so like rational that they can miss symbolism or metaphors and so. It, it makes me think about, you know, so many people want to connect themselves with their loved ones and they feel that they're not connecting with them, that they don't get messages, they don't get signs, they're not seeing, I just had a conversation very recently with somebody who was like. How can I connect? Because I wanna see my loved one. I wanna see my mom who just passed away and I'm not seeing her. And so I was talking about like, well, you know, that's a, that's one very specific way where you might see her, where you might experience her, but that might not be your
• 18:00
strongest. Sense. So you may not see it or your expectation about what you would see might Barbra: Right. Kara Goodwin: what they're able to convey. So I, I bet you see this a lot, you know, with just, I mean, you gave, that was a Barbra: Well, at the end of, Kara Goodwin: to me. Barbra: Um, at the end of my sessions, I do a little exercise with each client and I prove to them that your loved one is here and he's told you something and you're going to see that. And, uh, when that works, you could do this on your own every week. To know that he's around or she's around. So I believe everyone, well, everybody does have the ability. People say, what tools do I need to do this? I said, uh, don't buy a toolbox because all you need is your soul. Okay? And you can do it with that. That's all you need. And, and a lot of work.
• 19:00
Um, or unless you're born with it, Kara Goodwin: But, but you Barbra: Yes, I do. I do. But as you said, some people. Are not, are not looking, uh, are not, they just don't believe it. I told a woman, your son is saying there's, he's, he's butterflies. Okay, if you see butterflies, do you see him? I said, did. She goes, nah, I haven't really. I said, so you haven't seen any butterflies lately? She goes, well, you know, two days ago I was out and my husband said, you know, there's a bunch of butterflies, you know, hanging around you. So she looked behind and she goes, ah. It must be butterfly Migration season. How can you screw up a beautiful sign like that with coming up with concocting something just because you don't believe so? She missed it. And so many people say, I. I'm not getting any signs. This is, this is probably my
• 20:00
most hilarious one. Um, a woman who comes to me every year when her husband, uh, you know, the, the Angel Day of her husband, and she's crying. She goes, I haven't gotten any, I haven't seen anything. I've got no signs. I, I, he's not here. There's nothing that shows me he's here. She said, I bet he's got a girlfriend on the other side. He was really upset. Okay. And I always tell her, stop testing me. You know, it's been like years now. And she just, she goes, well, she goes, if, if it's like you said, and he's always around me and knows what's going on, he'll be able to tell me. What TV show I binge watched during the pandemic and, you know, I turned white. Like, okay. I, I don't even know. That's just so specific. There's only a million shows that we're on, but her husband was there and he said It's Outlander. And it was Outlander and I was, you know, I get as excited when, when you get
• 21:00
one of those gold nuggets too, you know, it's really cool. But, um. IS she said, you have no idea how much you just helped me. Because you keep proving that even if I don't feel him, or you know, he is not knocking me on the head or you know, blowing me, you know that he's still here, that he's always with me. And she goes, that's the greatest feeling. You really helped me. So I don't like mediums, don't like to be tested like that, but you know, she was really in bad shape. And I always say, listen, spirit is gonna give you what you need to know today. Not what you wanna know, but what you need to know. So I have to trust. And you have to trust because people come with crazy, you know, like, what color were my pajamas two days ago? I mean, I don't know. Um, and spirit's not gonna play that
• 22:00
game either. This woman needed it. Kara Goodwin: Mm-hmm. Yeah. That's amazing. Well, you know, when people are dealing with grief, they're very vulnerable and it's. Of course important that people don't become dependent so on, on you, on a or any you know? Barbra: Not Kara Goodwin: can Barbra: anybody. Kara Goodwin: Yeah. So how do you help people to strike a balance between helping them and also encouraging their sovereignty? Barbra: Well, I encourage them to, um, to, to practice in, in, when somebody books, I give them a resource sheet. I've got like links to, um, guided meditation for directly, for meeting up with your loved one. Um, I've got different games to play or exercises like the one I gave, uh, you, um.
• 23:00
And just a lot of different ways that, that you can feel them around you. I also give them, um, a website, um, by, that's from Mark Ick, Dr. Mark Pitstick, who's like one of the pioneers in the industry, which gives you 35 years of him. Uh, collecting articles and radio shows and just, he gives away free eBooks. He's probably written, you know, 15, uh, bestsellers. Uh, I said The more you know, the more you understand, the more you'll be able to. Feel like, okay, that's is what happens, and da, da, da, da, da. That you may just be more open to it, but as long as you've got this skepticism, it's going to put a wall up. So I just, I say education
• 24:00
and if you are really interested, take a class, because People who take classes are there because they've lost a loved one and they wanna connect desperately. And the classes are great because if you do practice and you're serious about it, and you will be able to connect. Although many mediums have a hard time connecting with their own loved ones because our head can get in the way. We know so much. So, um, we, we swap, we swap readings of our, our family with, with other mediums, uh, so we can get better information than if we try to do it ourselves. It's like, I already knew that, but. Kara Goodwin: Well, with, in terms of your own practice, you know, you, you kind of, it sounds like you exploded into this medium ship in terms of like, once you decided to unfreeze it was like, you know, was coming
• 25:00
together to be able to gifts up Barbra: So Kara Goodwin: you to be able to help people. Barbra: really helped. and, you know, in, in crisis and trauma for women and, and everybody, um, and all the different aspects of each kind of passing because they're different. Suicide is different than somebody who, who had cancer, uh, and the way the family relates to it and, you know, their loved ones. So it's, it really helped me. And one day someone said, you know, you were like divinely guided to those three different. Volunteer jobs to help you with your mediumship. Kara Goodwin: Oh, that Barbra: And, Kara Goodwin: lot Barbra: and I had, I said, you know what? I never thought of it like that. I mean, some of my readings are, you know, they, they get into the trauma and we go, so it, it really crosses over from like therapeutic and spiritual. Kara Goodwin: Yeah.
• 26:00
I love that. Well, has there been any evolution in your own connections or your guides or your interests in terms of the psychic phenomenon as you've, as you've kind of gone down this path? Barbra: Well, the psychic phenomenon has, has gone okay. That that was just, that was a wake up call, you know? paranormal. That's, yeah, that's that. Well, what happened the other day? Oh, our fans go on when we're not home, you know, when we get back and, and they're on. So they do little things and of course, you know, we get, I, I get, uh, feathers from my, uh, mother-in-law and, and this, that, and the other. Um, but the greatest help for mediumship, for me was trying trance. Because as I said at the beginning. Nothing good happens when our he, when our critical mind gets in the way of
• 27:00
a, of a reading. It's not about what's in our head, it's about what we funnel through from spirit. So, um, as, as my mentor says, nobody's coming to see you, Barbara. Okay? They don't, they don't care what you have to say about anything. They wanna know what Spirit is saying. So, you know, you get, get your head out of the way. Get ego out of the way. Get everything out of the way and just listen. Just be a reporter. But trance lets you do that because once at, at the end of most of my sessions, um, I do like a short trance, um, message for the client. And you know, when, when I'm done, I don't know what I said. Um, but if I, if I like open my eyes and ? If they're teared up and, and, you know, crying, I know that I, they gave him something that was really, um, aligned with them and, and that they really resonated with. So I'm always happy about that. Or if they laugh in the middle of
• 28:00
it and like almost jog me out of it, uh, I know that it was something that was joked between them. Kara Goodwin: Well, and so in those cases, who are you a channel for? Like is it for their deceased loved spirit Barbra: Yeah. Kara Goodwin: it a one specific entity that you consistently Barbra: No, I'm, I'm definitely, I'm not channeling, you know, Bashar or anything. The, um, it's, it's, I say who that I have brought through today. Would you like a message from? So I'm just, I'm going straight to the source. So if, if we have her mother there, then it'll be from her mother and things that, that, uh, are, I say she goes, my, those are things my mother would say, you know, so. And I don't get in some creepy voice or anything. It's, you know, I'm, I don't feel like Winston Churchill or anything. Um, it's just me, slower and softer. Sometimes I have, you know, they say, I can't hear you. So,
• 29:00
um, anyway, that's really been the, the greatest help for me to understand, get your head out of it. Kara Goodwin: Mm-hmm. Right, right. are there any practical things that you want listeners to, to know about that they could do today to Barbra: Well, I can run through the, uh, the little exercise I do and show you some things that other, uh, clients have gotten, which are pretty exciting. Would you like that? It'll only take like three or four minutes, Kara Goodwin: that'd be great. Barbra: who's out there, and you too, Kara. When I count to three, I want you to just blurt out the very first item that comes into your mind. 1, 2, 3. What is it? Kara Goodwin: Pencil. Barbra: everyone else, just write it down. So I just got chills. Okay. They're happy. Um, so your loved one,
• 30:00
uh, just put an item in your head. Okay. Something. Doesn't matter what it is, it's, it's what they gave you because they know in some way you're gonna get a replica or some something that, that means that in the next, you know, week or so. Um, and I'll tell you some, show you some things that people got and they send me pictures 'cause they're so crazy. Um, another host said Elephant and then she said. What am I, I'm not gonna see an elephant because you can't, it's not like you can, if you can go to the zoo and say, oh, I saw an elephant at the zoo. No, that's not what it's about. It. You will, it's, you will not expect it. It will be, it could be somebody driving away from you at a red light and it says, elephant, it's, you are gonna see that without looking for it. So anyway, she sends me this picture a few days later and she took her son to mini golf. And on the
• 31:00
one of the, I mean, you can't make this stuff up, Kara. Okay. That's one of the, that's Kara Goodwin: listening, because a lot of the, a lot of our listeners don't watch the video, but she just put up a video or a picture of a little boy who is at mini golf and there's an enormous Barbra: foot elephant there. Kara Goodwin: Yeah. Barbra: You would never, ever believe that. Okay, let me get the. A woman whose son had passed, well before he passed. She said, we're going to Mexico. What's, what's your favorite restaurant in, in Port of Vallarta or whatever. So he gave her the name of one. Um. So right. Then he, he passed and they were gonna go to Mexico. Well, the first thing I said, what? 1, 2, 3, what is it? She said, A baseball hat. She said, I don't even like baseball. Every, you know, they're all saying, I don't know why I said that. A baseball hat. So she, she said, me this. She goes, I went online because I
• 32:00
wanted to get a reservation in in the restaurant. My son told me about. The entire ceiling is baseball hats. Tell me, me that's coincidence. I don't think so. Kara Goodwin: Wow. Barbra: know, animals, Kara Goodwin: theme in a restaurant. Barbra: I know it's crazy. An entire ceiling with baseball hats attached to it. Um. That animals can see spirit and, and, you know, communicate. So anyway, 1, 2, 3, what is it? And she said, blanket, you know, and they're all shocked at what comes out of their mouth. So, um, this woman sends me, she said I was, um, I was in the kitchen, frosting a cake, and, uh, my back to the doorway. Okay.
• 33:00
And she said, I turn around and there's a blanket on the floor, which was my son's blanket, my son who passed, and the dog. And she said, what is his blanket doing here? And she yelled out for her husband and he said, I'm in the shower. I, I can't hear you. She said, do, did you do the, do you think with a blanket? He goes, no. It was on the bed with a dog. The spirit told the dog, bring the blanket to mom. Okay, I can't prove that, but I know that's what happened. Okay, so her little doggy dragged that big blanket into the kitchen for her, and the mother knew, this is it. This is it. there's some things that are, that are unbelievable. Uh, one woman who lost her husband. Uh, said
• 34:00
a wrench. Okay. Because he liked to fix cars, and she was sending me a, she wanted to send me a picture of him because she said, he's so handsome. Okay? I said, fine. So she said, but you know, it was on Google. And she said, and there was a Google band at the bottom. I cut his head off for privacy, okay? She goes, blow up the Google logo Kara Goodwin: my gosh. There's a wrench G Barbra: the G Google Band. Kara Goodwin: Wow. Barbra: So when clients get these signs and see this, they realize, hey, we just communicated. He puts something in my head because he knew where and when I would see it. And I said, you can play this with him or her
• 35:00
every week, Sunday dinner, everybody go around the table and, and come up with something that comes, but you can't change it. And you can't wait more than three seconds because after three seconds, our critical mind will come in and, you know, a typhoon, you know, it'll, you'll just make something up and you won't realize. Um. So just start over a little while later.
