- 0:10Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie slaving?
- 0:13Over a hot stove for a man, at least he could do his
- 0:16conditions. Welcome to Watch Your Least
- 0:18Favorite Scary Movie, The podcast where we talk about the
- 0:21good, the bad, the ugly and the absurd, and all of our favorite.
- 0:24And least favorite scary movie because we believe every horror
- 0:26movie rightfully has this fan base, even if.
- 0:28We don't always. My name is Travis.
- 0:30My name is Jessie, and today we are back to our franchise.
- 0:33Yeah, we are back to Chucky. And this time, we're bringing in
- 0:37Jennifer Tilly. Yeah.
- 0:39With bride of Chucky. Yay. 1st, I have no
- 0:45announcements. OK.
- 0:46But do you have poll results? I do OK and you get all the
- 0:51credit for this one because you came up with the poll this week
- 0:53and I thought it was a really good one it.
- 0:55Came to me in a flash. In a flash in a.
- 0:58Flash. So the poll was who would you
- 1:02rather be murdered by, Art the Clown or Johnny from in a
- 1:05Violent nature? Both are very sadistic and mean.
- 1:08Yeah, and I mean, that's pretty much it.
- 1:13Yeah. That's all you need to know
- 1:15about that situation. So OK, over on Twitter 8% would
- 1:20be killed by Art, 92 Johnny and on Instagram 37% Art and 63
- 1:28Johnny. I think for me, just based on,
- 1:33like, the numbers, because Johnny might give you a slow
- 1:35death like you did with the Ranger.
- 1:37Yeah, But you know, that was one out of a lot of them.
- 1:43Art is very much like a cat. Like he likes to play with his
- 1:46victim before he fully finishes him off.
- 1:49It's true he has his quick ones too though.
- 1:51He does. He does have quick ones, but the
- 1:54odds are a lot less in your favor.
- 1:58Yeah, that's true. So you're going to go with
- 2:00Johnny? I'm going to go with Johnny,
- 2:01yeah. OK, yeah, that seemed to be, I
- 2:03mean, obviously the consensus and IA lot of people were
- 2:06commenting saying like it the same thing you were saying.
- 2:10Art seems to get a lot of pleasure from torturing people.
- 2:14But if I'm being honest, man, after watching in a violent
- 2:18nature, and I've seen the Terrifier movies several times
- 2:22at this point, I think Johnny's are more.
- 2:29There's more. There's something about them
- 2:31that I don't like. I think it's also him.
- 2:34See, the thing with art, at least you're getting service
- 2:37with a smile. Like he's smiling the entire
- 2:40time and he's having fun. Johnny, I can't see his face.
- 2:42I don't know. It's a fucking terrifying mask
- 2:47and art. Is, you know, you can tell this
- 2:51is what he's really passionate about.
- 2:53You know, you feel the heart when somebody's sitting into it.
- 2:56Johnny, he's on a mission. This is business for him.
- 2:59See, the thing I'm most terrified of though, is I don't
- 3:02want to be the Ranger in that scene.
- 3:05You know what I mean? That right there is more
- 3:07terrifying to me than any of the kills that Art ever did.
- 3:12But then I think about like Ally or Dawn or fuck what's her name,
- 3:21the friend, the other friend, and the second one that gets.
- 3:24I think her name is Alice. It's not Alice.
- 3:27I think hers is. It is not.
- 3:29She doesn't have two friends name Allie and Alice.
- 3:33Isn't 1 Casey I? Don't think that's right.
- 3:38I think that might be the character.
- 3:39That actress is her. Name.
- 3:41Hold on, I got it. It's.
- 3:42Going to drive me nuts. Brooke.
- 3:45Brooke, I almost said Bree. So I I.
- 3:48Was you're there? Yeah.
- 3:49I was almost there. Yeah, hers is really bad too.
- 3:52And also whenever he's beating the shit out of Jonathan.
- 3:55Yeah, yeah. So there's just.
- 3:58I guess spoilers for people who haven't seen those movies, but
- 4:03yeah, yeah, I think this is the last.
- 4:07I'll say it because we got to go on to Chucky.
- 4:09But if I am getting killed by Johnny, though, if I were to
- 4:13choose Johnny, it's because like the spectacle, like I'm watching
- 4:17my head go through my stomach. I've you know, that's the only
- 4:19time you'll be able to experience that.
- 4:23OK. So like you're on like personal
- 4:26endoscopy, like up close before you die.
- 4:29It's innovative. Yeah, yeah, not very effective
- 4:33in terms of, you know, gastrointestinal like
- 4:37diagnostics. Yeah, the fatality rates 100%,
- 4:40but you're at least getting like a brand new experience.
- 4:44That's that's all I'll say. OK.
- 4:45OK, OK, before we go into fun facts with Brad of Chucky, I
- 4:50want to do what I've been doing for the past few movies, which
- 4:53is talk a little bit about some of the history of voodoo.
- 4:59And if you don't remember or haven't listened to the other
- 5:03ones, just a brief review of what it is.
- 5:05Is that when we watched the first one and started talking
- 5:08about it, I was kind of uncomfortable with the voodoo
- 5:14portrayal, but I couldn't really put my finger on why.
- 5:16And I really realized that the only thing I know about voodoo
- 5:19comes from, like, TV and movies. And it's always associated with
- 5:23like, things like this, you know?
- 5:25This is zombies. Yes.
- 5:27So it's never been like an overly positive portrayal in
- 5:30movies. So I wanted to do a little bit
- 5:32of research because I think that's important for us to do.
- 5:36And this is something I kind of started to take notice of with
- 5:41myself in college, that there are a lot of things that we just
- 5:47quote UN quote, learn from the media we consume.
- 5:50So like TV and movies. And we don't actually realize
- 5:53that that's our only exposure to it until we have real life
- 5:57exposure to it. And then we're like, maybe I
- 5:59need to reevaluate what I think I know.
- 6:03So that's why I started doing some of this research.
- 6:05And then I think that's especially important because
- 6:07unfortunately, we live in a day and age where somebody with
- 6:10massive influence can get up on a national stage and as a very
- 6:14nasty, very Nile and frankly very nasty, very vile, and
- 6:18frankly a very, very weird person.
- 6:21Say things like the Haitian immigrants are eating their cats
- 6:27and dogs. And then that has been twisted
- 6:32into it's because all Haitians practice voodoo and it's.
- 6:36Oh, are they throwing voodoo into that?
- 6:37Yes. Really.
- 6:38Yes. I thought, oh God, OK.
- 6:40Yeah, So unfortunately, this needing to, this desire to learn
- 6:47more about something outside of just a movie has spread to even
- 6:51a political stage. So.
- 6:53And that's because the very, very weird person who repeated
- 6:55this on national TV got it from like, the Internet or TV.
- 7:00Just a weird rumor that somebody spread.
- 7:02I I think like 99% of that shit just like comes like he like
- 7:07improvs or some shit up there. I don't think it it just it's
- 7:11all like a fabrication. OK.
- 7:14OK, let's go into it. Yes.
- 7:15So Haitian Voodoo, it was developed in Afro Haitian
- 7:18communities amid the Atlantic slave trade, and it blended the
- 7:22traditional religions of West and Central Africa and
- 7:24influences from French colonialists that we're
- 7:27currently controlling St. Domingue, including Roman
- 7:31Catholicism and Freemasonry. So it's kind of a blend of a
- 7:34bunch of different religions and this is Haitian Voodoo
- 7:37specifically. There are a bunch of different.
- 7:39Much like Christianity, there are a bunch.
- 7:40Of denominations, yeah. Many voodooists were involved in
- 7:45the Haitian Revolution from 1791 to 18 O 1, so that means that
- 7:49they had a hand in overthrowing the French colonial government,
- 7:52abolishing slavery, and establishing the Republic of
- 7:55Haiti. Roman The Roman Catholic Church
- 7:58left for several decades after this revolution, and then Voodoo
- 8:02became the dominant religion of Haiti.
- 8:05Many Haitians practice both voodoo and Roman Catholicism and
- 8:09in fact there are celebrations, the Lao that I mentioned on our
- 8:13Child's Play 3 episode, Dambala, the spirit serpent.
- 8:18Yes, so many of the Lao have like an association with a Roman
- 8:23Catholic St. and a lot of the ceremonies that they perform
- 8:27align with like days of recognition for those Catholic
- 8:29Saints as well. And another interesting point
- 8:32that I read is that these ceremonies often they will try
- 8:36and have a person become possessed by the Laos.
- 8:39That way they can communicate with it.
- 8:41So that whole possession thing is really like a means of
- 8:44communicating with a God. OK.
- 8:47So I thought that was really interesting.
- 8:50Recently, just a little bit about some of the current Haiti
- 8:54refugee crisis. President Jovenel Moisi, I'm so
- 9:00sorry, I'm probably butchering that pronunciation, was
- 9:03assassinated. And then the gangs ended up kind
- 9:06of taking over the country, especially taking control over
- 9:10two of the major prisons in Haiti and releasing a lot of the
- 9:13inmates. So it's very much dominated by
- 9:16gang violence right now. And on top of that, there's been
- 9:19like, generational poverty as a result of soil erosion,
- 9:22deforestation and sinking farms, sinking farms, shrinking farms.
- 9:27They could be sinking too, we don't know.
- 9:29Well, the soil is eroding, yes. So it's just created what is
- 9:33being called a global humanitarian or it's being
- 9:36called a humanitarian crisis. And the neighboring countries
- 9:39around Haiti have stopped taking in migrants and in some cases
- 9:44have even started deporting them.
- 9:47So the United States has long been taking in Haitian
- 9:49immigrants. Right now, they're in what's
- 9:52considered a temporary protected status.
- 9:55And they are here legally as part of the immigration parole
- 9:59program. So especially when we talk
- 10:01about, like, Springfield, OH, those folks are all there
- 10:04legally. They've actually, a lot of them
- 10:07are working in places like factories and warehouses.
- 10:10And you can't work at those types of places illegally.
- 10:13Like a lot of documentation is required even for those types of
- 10:17jobs. And it's actually resulted in a
- 10:19boost in the economy for Springfield having all of those
- 10:22extra workers. So it's been overall positive.
- 10:25And it's important to note that there have been no credible
- 10:28reports of missing pets. You know, the Police Department
- 10:31has investigated all of them. There are no credible reports of
- 10:33that. I read some interviews from some
- 10:36of the Haitian immigrants, and they're like, this is wild.
- 10:39Absolutely not. And I actually I got some quotes
- 10:42about where possibly some of this rumor was twisted and
- 10:46pulled from from experts in the field.
- 10:50Does that have something to do with voodoo?
- 10:51Doctor Ingrid Kummels. She's a Latin American
- 10:54ethnologist from Fry Universitat, Berlin.
- 11:00Direct quote Afro. Caribbean religions, including
- 11:02Haitian voodoo, only involved the sacrifice of animals
- 11:04considered edibles, such as chickens and goats.
- 11:06Cats and dogs are not a part of these practice, Camels told DW,
- 11:09adding that animal sacrifices in voodoo are reserved for
- 11:12significant rituals. Doctor Greta Vidal, an
- 11:15independent ethnologist specializing in Caribbean voodoo
- 11:18culture, noted a long standing expression about Haitians and
- 11:20cats. There's an expression in Haiti
- 11:22about extreme poverty, saying someone is so poor they might
- 11:24have to eat cats. But the idea that Haitians eat
- 11:27cats and voodoo rituals is pure fiction.
- 11:29It is simply not true. So it's kind of a mixture of
- 11:33taking like a local idiom and not understanding somebody's
- 11:39like long standing religious beliefs and just kind of
- 11:44morphing it into things that we also have seen on TV.
- 11:47You know, like I said, a lot of times when you think about
- 11:50voodoo, what do you think about? You think about like Zombie 2.
- 11:53You think about there's that one scooby-doo special where they're
- 11:57on the island and raising the dead.
- 11:58Like it's never I, I don't think of immediately like positive
- 12:03portrayals. I've never necessarily thought
- 12:06of anything negative, I've just always associated with like
- 12:11mystical abilities. And that's.
- 12:15I've never known a. Positive look at it.
- 12:16But it's always been kind of associated with like, this is
- 12:19what has caused the chaos in this particular movie.
- 12:23OK. That's kind of what my
- 12:27experience has been when I see it.
- 12:29OK, you know, and everybody has their own interpretation, but I
- 12:32just think it's important to like, really think about where
- 12:34our biases might be coming from. And again, like I said, doing
- 12:38some independent research, and that's why I really wanted to do
- 12:40that because sometimes it goes beyond just like, oh, maybe I'm
- 12:44just like, you know, missing some important cultural context
- 12:47to a movie or a lack of cultural context even, because who knows
- 12:51how much research was actually done with Voodoo for this
- 12:56franchise, right? It didn't really sound like a
- 12:59lot just from what the research we did on Child's Play one.
- 13:03Yeah, yeah, just. Kind of like they were throwing
- 13:07out all kinds of ideas to try and justify how this is
- 13:09happening. And Don Mancini, very vocally
- 13:12was not a fan of that addition to it.
- 13:14Yeah, he ran with it. So I just just something that,
- 13:20you know, if you ever are making an assumption about something,
- 13:23maybe kind of think about where it's coming from, do a little
- 13:25bit of your own independent research.
- 13:27You know, maybe sometimes your assumption is based in the
- 13:30right, right direction, but it's good.
- 13:34Knowledge is power, folks, and we don't want to create
- 13:37discrimination towards a group of people that is in the middle
- 13:40of like an actual crisis and support.
- 13:44The more you know cuz things can spiral, yes, the more you know.
- 13:48So all right, bring it home, tie this in.
- 13:52Let's let's get it on with child support.
- 13:54All right, all right, Bride of Chucky, what you're here for,
- 13:58right? OK, so Bride of Chucky premiered
- 14:02October 16th, 1998. We watched it on our fork, but
- 14:07it is currently available to stream on Netflix or you can
- 14:10rent it from YouTube. Google Play Fandango at home.
- 14:12Formerly Voodoo, OK. Wow, that is weird.
- 14:23Written by Don Mancini and directed by Ronnie Yu.
- 14:26If that name sounds familiar, it should.
- 14:28We talked a lot about him when we covered Freddie versus Jason.
- 14:32Yeah, man, he's good. He's so, you know, he's the type
- 14:35of guy that he can tackle with his franchises and do a good
- 14:38job. Absolutely.
- 14:40And I've got a little bit of information about that in my
- 14:42phone fax. Not a ton, but just a little
- 14:43bit. Music by Graham Ravel, who also
- 14:46did the music for Child's Play 2.
- 14:48If that name sounds familiar. Special effects makeup by Martin
- 14:51Assles, Alan Cook, Matthew Galliford, Paul Jones, and David
- 14:57Scott, with the doll puppeteering done by Kevin
- 15:01Yeager. Production, of course.
- 15:03Starring Jennifer Tilly is Tiffany, Brad Dourif as Chucky,
- 15:08Katherine Heigl is Jade, Nick Stabile as Jesse Gordon, Michael
- 15:12Wolvit as David, and John Ritter rest in peace as Chief Warren
- 15:17Kincaid. I'm gonna throw out an
- 15:19additional rest in peace for Alexis Arquette, who made an
- 15:23appearance as Damien Travis. It's time for her favorite game.
- 15:28Budget. Or bug 10.
- 15:33I will say Bug Ted, it's budget. 25 mil. 25,000,000 for this.
- 15:4225,000,000 Damn yeah yeah. Opening weekend grossed 11.8
- 15:48million and a worldwide gross of 50.6 million.
- 15:51What made them want to throw all that money at Child's Play or
- 15:54like Chucky? Because they weren't doing that
- 15:56before. It was it was on like a long
- 15:59hiatus. Well, not too long, but you
- 16:02know, like it had a few years off.
- 16:05I don't know. I don't have that information
- 16:07for. You, I didn't expect it to I'm,
- 16:09you know, just like a how, why would they do something like?
- 16:12That why? You know you don't have to
- 16:14answer. I'm not expecting an answer.
- 16:17IMDb score 5.6 out of 10. That's rude.
- 16:20It's really rude. Yeah, actually I've got 3
- 16:24movies. I'm going to say there was a
- 16:27lot. It was pretty slim.
- 16:28Pickens for 1998. Yeah, I think the 90s like you
- 16:33it it's hard to string something like this together.
- 16:36I have a loose theme. I'm generally calling it evading
- 16:41mortality. So that could be like a
- 16:45resurrection, soul transfer, undead, whatever.
- 16:50I was about to say it's Halloween resurrection on here,
- 16:52but I know that that was not out at this point.
- 16:55There has a Halloween movie I'm a list so the first one is Curse
- 17:01of the Puppet Master. Oh man, I don't even know what
- 17:05goes on in that one and I haven't watched that.
- 17:06There are transfers of souls into puppets.
- 17:10Oh, so they're just copying child's points?
- 17:11It's very similar that premiered May 26th, 1998 on a budget of
- 17:17250,000. Don't have a gross.
- 17:19I'm assuming this was a direct to.
- 17:21Video Entire franchises. IMDb score of four point O out
- 17:25of 10. The second movie, Blade.
- 17:30Blade. Yeah, well cuz it's about
- 17:32vampires and also he's half immortal so.
- 17:35Yeah, that's true. Yeah, I've never seen Blade
- 17:38either. Yeah, I actually haven't either.
- 17:40Isn't it funny though, that like, as soon as you see Blade,
- 17:43like, you recognize that that's Blade.
- 17:45Like when he appeared in Deadpool I was like oh shit.
- 17:48Oh yeah, I'm aware of him. But you know, I've just never
- 17:51watched the movies. Yeah.
- 17:52Yeah, that. Released August 21st, 1998.
- 17:56Budget of 45,000,000, worldwide gross of 131 Million and an IMDb
- 18:01score of 7.1 out of 10. Wow, people like that.
- 18:04Yeah, it sounds like the general audience thinks that maybe this
- 18:06is something we should check out as well.
- 18:10And finally H2O. Yeah, OK.
- 18:13Yep. And.
- 18:14That I feel like that's pretty self explained.
- 18:17I was talking about Michael Down DA.
- 18:19He never died. Michael, don't.
- 18:21Die. He blew up in a hospital and he
- 18:22kept trucking and then he got his head cut off and he kept
- 18:25trucking. And I know that he didn't
- 18:27actually get his head cut off, but well.
- 18:29We didn't know that at the time. No, exactly.
- 18:32He got beat up by an entire town.
- 18:36You know what he did? Kept trucking.
- 18:39So that released August 5th, 1998.
- 18:43Like a birthday present for you. All the most budget of
- 18:4717,000,000 and a worldwide gross of 55,000,000.
- 18:50IMDb score 5 point out of 10. Gonna call that rude?
- 18:52And if you want to know exactly why we think that, go listen to
- 18:55our episode about it. Yeah, we did.
- 18:56The whole franchise. We.
- 18:57Did the whole franchise. That was a few franchises ago.
- 19:00It was good. It's fun, all right.
- 19:03I've got some tag lines. Yeah, OK.
- 19:07There were two on the poster. Chucky gets lucky.
- 19:12It's not bad. It do happen.
- 19:14Also, the honeymoon's gonna be killer.
- 19:17That's not bad. Yeah, they're going for cheesy
- 19:19here, for sure. I get it.
- 19:20Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 19:23Here comes the bride. There goes everyone else.
- 19:26Whoa. That's good.
- 19:28I like that a lot, yeah. This time, Chucky has a playmate
- 19:32of his own. Yeah, that's a.
- 19:35Little There's one that like works.
- 19:41If you don't think about it for very long, move on from it right
- 19:45away. I mean, you could.
- 19:45Take that one and you can apply it to any movie.
- 19:48Like he's like, you know, he's going after like a kid.
- 19:50Usually, yeah, but this time? He's got like a doll with him.
- 19:53Yeah, I know. But I'm just saying like, you
- 19:55know, yeah, that's not like a thing specific to dolls.
- 19:59So you can just say that in any Chucky movie.
- 20:02Well, perhaps you'll. Like this one better Chucky
- 20:04found a lover of his own. That's.
- 20:06Better. Yeah, because he's not loving
- 20:08Andy. He hates him.
- 20:10That's true. He's very true.
- 20:12This time, there's more to fear. That's lame.
- 20:17Yeah, that, that's just bad. OK, that's it.
- 20:23That's it for tag lines. All right.
- 20:25So are we. Ready for some fun?
- 20:26Thanks. Yes, OK.
- 20:28I did a lot of screenshotting today because it just there was
- 20:31a lot of good quotes I kept coming across.
- 20:33You did a lot of research. Today I did I.
- 20:35Did so. Mancini and Kirchner knew that
- 20:37after three that they needed to switch up the franchise.
- 20:40They definitely wanted to move away from Andy, even more so
- 20:43than they did on the third one. Fuck Andy.
- 20:45Right. So they started working on this
- 20:48in 1996 under the working title Child's Play for the Return of
- 20:52Chucky. They were very much inspired by
- 20:55Scream and I've got a really nice quote from Don Mancini.
- 20:59OK. Like most.
- 21:00Genres, the horror genre goes in cycles and I think we can thank
- 21:03Kevin Williamson and Scream for reinvigorating the market over
- 21:06the years. I'd been imagining new scenarios
- 21:09for this series with his previous successes.
- 21:11We knew it was just a matter of time before we'd be bringing
- 21:13Chucky back, and David Kirchner and I both felt that it was
- 21:16important to bring him back in a new way.
- 21:18We wanted to elevate the series and reinvent it, go beyond what
- 21:21we've done before and what we've ended up with is incredibly part
- 21:25horror, part comedy, part romance and part Rd. movie.
- 21:28It's a really cool blend of the genuinely and the really funny,
- 21:31OK. Yeah, they they make it well
- 21:35known that they're heavily inspired by Scream.
- 21:37Oh yes. Yes, very much so, but I am a
- 21:41fan of this new like horror comedy of this era which I've
- 21:45made well known. They yeah, that Chucky was
- 21:49already kind of like a comedy in some ways though, you know what
- 21:53I mean? Like the past 2 movies they were
- 21:55more cartoony with them and they gave him like funny line
- 21:59deliveries. I would say yes.
- 22:01My favorite addition to this is the road trip aspect because I
- 22:04love like a good on the road movie.
- 22:06Yeah, I. Think that's that's always
- 22:08really fun. Maybe.
- 22:10That's my favorite storytelling thing.
- 22:11Yeah, I like that we get Tiff too.
- 22:14She's a great addition. Absolutely.
- 22:16They love to use the bride with the white hair.
- 22:19Mancini and Kirchner both did, and they wanted to give home
- 22:22creative freedom with what he was doing in his directing.
- 22:24So they were fully in support of him, which seems to be a theme
- 22:27in the movies that we've found with him generally that just.
- 22:30Seems to be like a good idea, you know, like if somebody's got
- 22:33a vision, like, let him do it. Yeah, you bring?
- 22:36In a directory. You want them for those
- 22:37projects. You want them for a reason.
- 22:39You got to let them do their thing.
- 22:40Yeah, Let's see. Kirchner saw Bride of
- 22:42Frankenstein when he was at the movie rental store.
- 22:45Remember those? Oh, I.
- 22:47Miss those, missed them. And it just kind of hit him.
- 22:50He was like, hey, what if we get Chucky a girlfriend?
- 22:54Wait, hold on. It's this almost sounds like he
- 22:57like he like did you guys know? Did you see?
- 23:02They did a new. Frankenstein movie.
- 23:04Mancini loved the idea of two killer dolls all on Natural Born
- 23:08Killer Dolls and Barbie and Clyde Barbie.
- 23:11And Clyde? So Tilly was their first choice
- 23:15for Tiffany after seeing Band and Bullets over Broadway.
- 23:20And I've got a quote about the casting for Tiffany in
- 23:24retrospect, Mancini commented. Once we introduced Jennifer
- 23:27Tilly's character, that brought a certain comedic camp vibe to
- 23:30the franchise, which I think is kind of historically a hallmark
- 23:32of gay culture, referencing to the referring to the increasing
- 23:37use of LGBTQ plus characters in later Chucky films and TV
- 23:40series. We also see David in this, who's
- 23:43very, like, he's gay out and open.
- 23:46Yeah. So.
- 23:47But I think it's nice like seeing that like progressively
- 23:50be more of just like. Everything in the series, yes.
- 23:54Yeah. It's always been a core of the
- 23:56franchise as we've discussed, but seeing it be on screen is
- 24:00just really nice. Yeah, they had nine different
- 24:03puppets alone for Chucky, and I can't imagine how many that they
- 24:06had for Tiffany, considering we've got like pre and post
- 24:10transformation for her. Oh yeah, Plus the doll.
- 24:12She goes into you before she's even soul transferred.
- 24:18Oh yeah, cuz the doll looks. Different once her soul's in it
- 24:21cuz that's isn't that. Post or pre makeover?
- 24:24Yeah, could be the. Same one.
- 24:26No it. Looks different.
- 24:27Once her soul's in the doll, that's it.
- 24:29Yeah, the face is a little different.
- 24:31Well yeah, I guess that's true, cuz that's what happens with
- 24:33Chucky when he takes over a Good guy doll.
- 24:36Yeah, and. Actually it was 7 puppeteers per
- 24:38doll, 3 alone for the face. Each doll also had a playback
- 24:43operator and a puppet coordinator, which is a liaison
- 24:47between the puppeteers and the director.
- 24:49They really. Had to work on this one because
- 24:52they they make the two like tongue make out and then they
- 24:56actually like, have sex. Yeah.
- 24:57Like, you know, that's the type of thing you don't really
- 25:00expect. Exactly.
- 25:02And this was actually, they did something different with the
- 25:04doll skin in this. It's a blend of silicone and
- 25:08foam latex. In the previous films, the doll
- 25:11skin was all foam latex, which when it was painted made it
- 25:14really difficult to light the dolls.
- 25:16So they were doing it in a way that they could paint it and
- 25:19make lighting easier. Interesting.
- 25:21They shot for 12 weeks in Toronto.
- 25:24Over half of that was done on a soundstage before principal
- 25:27photography began. Jennifer Tilley and Brad Dourif
- 25:30recorded their voiceover in a three day session.
- 25:33They only did. This in three days, yeah.
- 25:36Brock Winkless returned for the last time as one of the 17
- 25:40puppeteers on set for Chucky and Ed Gale and Debbie Lee
- 25:45Carrington performed as in suit double S for Chucky and Tiffany
- 25:51in the graveyard scene. Yeah, well.
- 25:53I saw. Well, obviously that's one like
- 25:55that, but I got, you know, there are a couple of shots like
- 25:57that's you like when Tiff is suiting up, like getting her
- 26:01dress on and stuff like that. Yeah, you can see them like
- 26:04playing on like shoes and stuff. Yeah.
- 26:07Yeah, they have to do a little bit of a little bit of a work
- 26:11around everything can't be puppeteering.
- 26:13So yeah, that is that's it for my fun facts.
- 26:17OK, so quite a bit today. I think we we learned a little
- 26:20bit about a lot, yeah. Or a lot about a little bit We
- 26:23yeah, we. We went a lot of places this
- 26:25time. OK, but you know what that
- 26:28means? Yes, We move on from facts and
- 26:31move over towards feelings. What's our good, bad, ugly and
- 26:33absurd, Travis? All right.
- 26:36So my goods for this. I really enjoy the introduction
- 26:42of Tiff in this. Jennifer Tilley is a great
- 26:45character to add to this right here.
- 26:49I like their banter, yes. I think that they play off of
- 26:51each other really well. They have good chemistry, they
- 26:54really do. Even if it's.
- 26:55In a recording booth, but even whenever she's on screen with
- 26:58the doll too, she does a good job with it like that.
- 27:01I like the shake up of how they approached this one compared to
- 27:05the other ones because yeah, it's like 2 and 3 didn't really.
- 27:10Like, they still did, like, straight up slashers, but they
- 27:13were leaning more towards, like, taking themselves less seriously
- 27:17each time. And this one right here, they
- 27:20just, like, said fuck it. Like, let's just have fun.
- 27:22Yeah. And you can feel it.
- 27:24Like, it's very much like a tangible thing with this movie.
- 27:27Then I just think a lot of the actors did a great job.
- 27:30They had some really fun dialogue written by Don Mancini,
- 27:34and they had some great deliveries with their dialogue,
- 27:37too. Absolutely.
- 27:38Which probably also. Goes in with the direction with
- 27:41Ronnie You. Ronnie you is solid.
- 27:43Yeah, yeah. So that's been good.
- 27:48I absolutely adore this movie. I think it's a lot of fun.
- 27:52It the plot line is like every time we watch it, I'm like man,
- 27:57this. I always forget about different
- 27:59elements of the movie because like all I really remember is we
- 28:04get Tiffany, but like we have this whole like elopement
- 28:07storyline and they're being accused of the murders.
- 28:12It like it literally goes places because they travel to
- 28:15Hackensack. I just, I think it's a lot of
- 28:18fun. I love love Tiffany's
- 28:21introduction. That scene where she comes in,
- 28:24she kills that cop Bailey with her nail file and goes straight
- 28:29into filing her nail with How the fuck does she kill him?
- 28:31With a nail file like a queen cut to the throat.
- 28:34That's. They're not that sharp are they?
- 28:36I'm assuming. She might have like some
- 28:38specialized equipment. OK, could.
- 28:39Be and then the. Fact that we get living dead
- 28:42girl as like her introduction. Now I've heard that this was
- 28:49that the song was made for this movie.
- 28:50I cannot find any reputable source saying it is.
- 28:54However, I also want to shout out and shame the Wikipedia
- 29:00article about this song because it said the album is called
- 29:05Hillbilly Deluxe. That's not the name of the
- 29:07fucking album, it's Hellbilly Deluxe.
- 29:09I could probably paint the cover.
- 29:10Well, fix it. Dude, that's what Wikipedia is.
- 29:13It's a community effort. If you see something wrong, you
- 29:16gotta fix it. I've never done.
- 29:18That it's like. You gotta give.
- 29:21OK, well. Show me how to do it later and
- 29:23I'll do it, OK? OK, you have to cite your source
- 29:26though or it will say citation needed.
- 29:28Then you'll look like a fool my. Mom, The the fact that it's the
- 29:33name of the album I don't like. I don't know a good source for
- 29:35that, I'm sorry. Naomi, we're going to have to
- 29:37use your phone number. The person who?
- 29:39Originally wrote this probably had an auto correction didn't
- 29:42catch it like I don't know what yeah for that All right, I'll.
- 29:46Show you. OK, we're gonna we're gonna make
- 29:49the world a better place. I love that John Ritter's in
- 29:52this movie. I think his character is an
- 29:54asshole, but his line delivery delivery is really fun.
- 29:57Oh yeah, he's part. Of what?
- 29:59My good day with that. He's a great character too.
- 30:02He really? Is I always forget.
- 30:04He survives as long as he does, I know.
- 30:07I know after the Pinhead death I kind of assume he's like dead
- 30:10dead, but he isn't. I love the constant referencing
- 30:15of Martha Stewart. Like here's The thing is that I
- 30:18am, I think if I had to describe my aesthetic, it would just be
- 30:23like Tiffany because like dark and morbid with the creepy
- 30:26dolls, but also girly and glam and like it works for me.
- 30:32It's a nice look and. It she.
- 30:34Rocks it you. Rock it too.
- 30:37I just, it's a fun fucking movie, yeah.
- 30:41And. David, we just like we're
- 30:43constantly watching this movie, amazed by his delivery of
- 30:46certain lines, especially when he calls them when they're on
- 30:49the. News because.
- 30:49What the fuck? What the fuck?
- 30:51Yeah. Yeah, he killed it.
- 30:54One of the cool things about this movie I remember vividly
- 30:56being a kid, the marketing for it.
- 31:01Yeah, like I wasn't even. Into it, But I remember they
- 31:04did, and I looked it up recently because I had thought about it,
- 31:07but Chucky showed up on WWFI. Think it was or NWO or whatever
- 31:14one it was back then in the 90s. There were so many of them.
- 31:17But like he called somebody out on like the jumbo screen.
- 31:20And I always remember like, oh shit, Chucky's in wrestling
- 31:23because that was back when I was like huge on wrestling too.
- 31:25OK, hold on. Wait.
- 31:26When did the Nintendo 6C4 come out?
- 31:2996 OK, so. I would have gotten the Nintendo
- 31:3264 around this time because I didn't get it when it was brand
- 31:35new and I had WWE Ross. So it was it was no longer WWF.
- 31:43It's here we go. I'll I'll plug this in Steiner.
- 31:49Versus Steiner, the one that never happened at Paul Brawl is
- 31:52going to happen at Halloween Havoc.
- 31:55Halloween. Havoc.
- 31:56Is what it was you and members? Of your family.
- 31:58You think you pushed too hard, Rick, for this particular man,
- 32:01No, I don't. Gene, you know my brother, he's
- 32:06brought this on himself, and this has been coming for a long,
- 32:10long time. Gene, we get the fall.
- 32:13What? What?
- 32:14The devil? What is that?
- 32:19Wait a minute. Take a look.
- 32:21Get that dummy out of here. We're trying to conduct an
- 32:24interview. Who's that?
- 32:30Shut them off. Please give it a rest.
- 32:32Have. That dummy out here, What cue?
- 32:40Ball Who you calling a dummy? You're standing there with the
- 32:45genetic throwback who barks at the moon.
- 32:50I'm doing love scenes with Jennifer Tilly and you're
- 32:54calling me a dummy, say. It again, yeah, we call you
- 33:00you're a dummy and. What's the?
- 33:01Matter. For a guy who never shuts up,
- 33:05you sure don't have much to say. Mean Gene.
- 33:10Just just a second here. Shut the hell.
- 33:14Up. I didn't come.
- 33:16Here to talk to you Anyway, I came here to talk to that idiot
- 33:21standing next to you. Hey.
- 33:24Hey, bring your raggedy rear end down here.
- 33:28You got something to say to me, wouldn't you?
- 33:30Ricky, you've been playing with dolls all your life.
- 33:35At least that's what your mother tells me.
- 33:38But. I'm not.
- 33:39Your type. You need a kinder, gentler,
- 33:43Dumber doll. Me, I'd show you what it's like
- 33:46to get your head twisted off your arms and legs bent and
- 33:51broken. And when I'm done with you, I'd
- 33:53let the dogs chew on you like some old shoe.
- 33:57How would you like that, Ricky? You got.
- 34:00Something to say, Say you ain't got nothing to say.
- 34:04Get the heck out of here. I'm.
- 34:06Here to tell everyone that if they want to see a real Pearl at
- 34:10work, they should go and see my new movie Bride of Chucky.
- 34:15Opening. October 16th and I want to give
- 34:18you some who is. Booing that don't mess.
- 34:23I think they're booing every guy, Scott.
- 34:26You see, what I really want to do is direct, and Scott's the
- 34:31lead in my next project. So if you mess with Scott,
- 34:34you're messing with me and my Academy Award.
- 34:38And Chucky's going to get more than lucky, Ricky.
- 34:41Chucky's going to get even. That's insanity.
- 34:48That's lunacy. I love.
- 34:51That Brad Dora throws his entire back into voicing Chucky.
- 34:55I know, right? He he does an amazing job.
- 34:57I like God, that was so cool back in the day.
- 35:00Like even like if I saw that now I'd be like, it's just an ad,
- 35:03but like back then, it's like Chucky's in wrestling.
- 35:06I think if I saw. It today I'd be like, this is
- 35:09obviously an ad, but it's awesome.
- 35:10It is, yeah. That's a great way to do it.
- 35:13OK, sorry. All right.
- 35:15Well, unfortunately, that means we're we're ready for the bad.
- 35:19Yeah. There's not a lot of bad in this
- 35:23movie for me, but I don't necessarily like the metaness of
- 35:29it. I feel like it's weirdly meta
- 35:31and it's fine. I just it just felt like it was
- 35:35copying screen too much to me. That's what it was.
- 35:40And that was a thing with a lot of movies during this time.
- 35:44Everything was like, oh, like let's do a swasher but or let's
- 35:46do a war movie. But we got to make it matter.
- 35:48We got to acknowledge the genre. You know, it's cool.
- 35:50Like I, you know, I like those movies every now and then, like
- 35:54that's the whole like that screams DNA.
- 35:56But Chucky, like it wasn't before and then now they're like
- 36:00weirdly meta all the time. I wasn't.
- 36:03Too bothered by it. I liked it more when it was self
- 36:06referential rather than when it was like talking about other
- 36:10horror movies, like when they're like, how'd you even get here?
- 36:12And he's like, it's a long story.
- 36:13If it was a movie, you'd probably need 3 or 4 sequels.
- 36:16Yeah, I think that's really funny.
- 36:17Yeah. It has this and I don't hate all
- 36:20of it. I like in the beginning when we
- 36:21get the Michael, Jason, Freddie and like Weatherface stuff in
- 36:25the evidence Walker. That's cool.
- 36:26I'm going to talk about. That in a second, OK.
- 36:28But yeah, I mean, just for me, it just like, OK, like that's
- 36:33it's not your lane. That's another movie's lane.
- 36:37OK. And I just, it felt like they
- 36:40were trying to be a different type of movie, OK.
- 36:43I guess I can see that perspective.
- 36:47I think for me, the I think the young lovers eloping thing is
- 36:58done almost a little too tritely.
- 37:00You know what I mean? It's really great to serve as,
- 37:03like a foil to Chucky and Tiff's relationship.
- 37:08Yeah, and I see the purpose of it there, but it's easily the
- 37:12most forgettable part of, I'd say probably the entire
- 37:14franchise for me. Like, I literally always forget
- 37:18that. That's like the undercurrent of
- 37:19the movie for this. Yeah, it could be anything.
- 37:22They could just be on the run, like running away together.
- 37:25They don't have to get married. And like I said.
- 37:27I get why they did it the way they did it, Yeah.
- 37:31And I don't think it's like necessarily poorly done and just
- 37:35it's one of the least stand out plot lines for me.
- 37:39OK. But I do like that we continue
- 37:41that kind of the themes that Don Mancini loves, which is
- 37:44childhood trauma because Jade is living with her uncle after
- 37:49presumably both her parents have died.
- 37:51And he has made no secret that he hates her because he was
- 37:54like, once you turn 18, you go to you can go to hell for all I
- 37:57care. Like, damn dog, that's rough.
- 37:59Why even like? Take her in like who's who's
- 38:02holding it? Well, I guess she has.
- 38:03Maybe it's like a legal thing. I don't know.
- 38:05Well, it's probably a legal thing, but.
- 38:06Also like he's the chief of police police and if they were
- 38:08all in a small town together the optics of that probably aren't
- 38:11great. And I think he definitely cares
- 38:13about optics which is why he doesn't want her dating Jesse in
- 38:16the 1st place cuz in his opinion he's trailer trash.
- 38:20I think people would. Be too afraid to call him out
- 38:21because he would tear them down verbally like he does everybody
- 38:24in this movie. Absolutely.
- 38:25Yeah, he's like he's got some zingers.
- 38:27He does. Yeah.
- 38:30Ugly. Ugly.
- 38:32I got cops. They.
- 38:34Like the whole thing with them and this is like yeah, cops
- 38:38abuse their power, but you know, that's like their main thing in
- 38:40this right here. Like he is doing it to ruin her
- 38:43life. If he for somebody who says they
- 38:46don't care about her, if you sure enjoys caring about her
- 38:50personal life to the extent of hiring like a or yeah, paying a
- 38:55cop. So like just kind of be over
- 38:57them the entire time and I. Agree with you.
- 39:00And I'm also going to add to that list of the cops Bailey at
- 39:03the beginning because he was taking making a bribe from
- 39:05Tiffany. Well, I guess it's not a bribe.
- 39:07She's not a politician. She's taking money from her to
- 39:10steal the doll from the evidence locker.
- 39:13Yeah, so and that and. Also needle nose.
- 39:17I don't remember his actual name.
- 39:18Norton. I think OK.
- 39:20He also plants drugs. Or no, he doesn't plant drugs.
- 39:23Never mind. He finds the drugs.
- 39:24He finds the. Planted drugs?
- 39:25No, that was that was Warren who Warren planted.
- 39:28Drugs. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:29But he. Told that he told him that he
- 39:31was going to do that so that way he could pull him over and
- 39:35search the band. Still shitty.
- 39:36Yeah, yeah, but that's like a move right there.
- 39:39Like I'm gonna plant drugs in your car and I'm telling you
- 39:41about it. Yeah.
- 39:44Absurd. I've got.
- 39:49I like whenever Chucky is first in Tiff's trailer and he's
- 39:54locked up in that crib and he's like playing with the baby toys.
- 40:01And he's just like making them spell curse words.
- 40:03And he's like on like the little like game where you have to
- 40:06spell words. He's just like spelling bitch
- 40:08not to continue. Bringing up my childhood but my
- 40:11little sister had a little leapfrog like that and my mom
- 40:14and I being the mature individuals we were, would try
- 40:17and spell swears on it. And so we'd be like a S press 3
- 40:23letters to make a word so it wouldn't it wouldn't never say
- 40:27it. Yes.
- 40:28It doesn't even let you type it in or, well, it'll let you type
- 40:32it in, but it won't read all the lines out loud.
- 40:34So. I call bullshit on the leapfrog.
- 40:38I liked it though. It was really funny also the
- 40:40fact that we get like doll sex in this right here, which is,
- 40:45you know, like it's almost like Team America levels right here
- 40:49and she's. Like do you have a rubber?
- 40:50And he goes Tiff, I am rubber. It's pretty funny.
- 40:56OK, that's my absurds. My.
- 40:58Absurd is the fact that we see like, various memorabilia from
- 41:03Freddie and Jason and Michael in the evidence lockers, which
- 41:08implies that this police station has managed to arrest all of
- 41:12them. I like that they're.
- 41:13All in the same town. Yeah.
- 41:15You know, that's cool. I like, I like the idea of them
- 41:17being like a shared universe. So these three.
- 41:20But yeah, in the same town. So in Texas or did the
- 41:24Leatherface venture out? Is he like Charlie Kelly?
- 41:27He's like, I've never left Philly, man.
- 41:28It's too scary out there. See.
- 41:31With Jason, I can accept it cuz they're close enough to Jersey
- 41:34in the day's drive. But yeah, it's there's a lot.
- 41:42To me this is like a multiverse situation and in this particular
- 41:48universe the they're all located centrally and this happens to be
- 41:52the both the most corrupt and the most effective Police
- 41:55Department. The Connecticut Chainsaw
- 41:58Massacre. OK.
- 42:03All right. Time to rate it, time to.
- 42:05Rate it this is. One of my favorite ones in the
- 42:08franchise. I rated up there at A9 this.
- 42:13Maybe knocks it out of the park for me.
- 42:14I'm gonna give it a 9.75. Nice.
- 42:16It is fucking beautiful. I'll probably.
- 42:18End up changing mine to like a higher score fucking better.
- 42:22Yeah. 3. 79.375 Nice. I'm not good at writing numbers
- 42:29today. There we go.
- 42:31OK. We're ready, yeah.
- 42:34So we start off, we're in an evidence locker, which as we've
- 42:38already discussed has. Jason's mask.
- 42:42Yeah. Weather faces, chainsaw.
- 42:44Michael's mask and Freddy's gloves.
- 42:46Yeah. Yeah.
- 42:48It's really cool. I like to touch.
- 42:50For me complaining about the Met in this, that's a fun one at
- 42:52least. A cop takes a bag from one of
- 42:55the lockers and drives away and makes a call saying like I'm on
- 42:59the way, make sure you bring the money.
- 43:01When he gets the. Rendezvous point.
- 43:03He looks in the bag and as he's looking he gets his throat slit.
- 43:08We cut to Tiffany, who's fouling her nails with the weapon.
- 43:12And then she reaches in, grabs the bag and says hello, Dolly,
- 43:16and takes the lighter. Yeah.
- 43:18Then she reaches out and it's like it's just Chucky's face.
- 43:21Yeah, but if you remember the last 1 ended with him falling
- 43:24into a giant fan. So he is in like several pieces.
- 43:28Yes. Which leads to a montage, she
- 43:32living dead girl, of her rebuilding him, sewing him
- 43:35together, stapling him, borrowing parts from other
- 43:39dolls. There's one really cool shot
- 43:41where she, like, opens her mouth and it has, like, an eyeball in
- 43:43it. Yeah, yeah.
- 43:44You know, Frankensteining if you will.
- 43:46Yes, if you will. Yeah, yeah.
- 43:47It's really cool. I like the way they did this.
- 43:50It's a cool way to refresh his design a little bit.
- 43:55I like. This design for him I do too.
- 43:57I. Wish we kept it.
- 43:58I'm sad that it goes back to like original good guy with
- 44:01yeah. Yeah, but I like this design for
- 44:04at least this movie. Yeah, I.
- 44:07Love it. Yeah, and the next one too.
- 44:09I can never. Remember how he looks in the
- 44:10next one? Cuz the next one they do the
- 44:12movie thing. Yeah, he's.
- 44:13Yeah, he still looks the exact same.
- 44:15Yeah, it's only in the remix or not the remix.
- 44:18The newer ones, the Colton. Curse, yeah.
- 44:20That they change it up again. OK then.
- 44:23We cut to David picking up Jade for a dance, and her uncle is
- 44:27grilling him about various things ago.
- 44:29You're going to Princeton Athletic scholarship, he goes.
- 44:31Yeah, ice dancing. Ice dancing.
- 44:34I love it. They leave, and Warren calls
- 44:37them the dances. They're out, so her actual date
- 44:40is in the backseat of David's car.
- 44:42His name's Jesse. Isn't it weird that we.
- 44:44Wait so long to find out this guy his name?
- 44:47Yeah. It's and I'm joked about it cuz
- 44:50I forget his name every fucking time, which is so ironic.
- 44:54Yeah, I. Always do too.
- 44:56And they don't like, it's just a random dude in the back.
- 44:58For all we know that it's your actual boyfriend.
- 45:01And then we find out that David is gay.
- 45:05So he was just playing like the part to like, yeah, Because
- 45:09before, when they were in there, he was talking about how he's
- 45:13much better than her last boyfriend, which is this guy.
- 45:17I'm assuming that would make sense.
- 45:19Yeah. So what happens is they're
- 45:22crossing the bridge and they get pulled over by needle nose.
- 45:25Yep. And it's.
- 45:26Raining. And he's making them stand
- 45:27outside in the rain. Yeah.
- 45:30So Tiffany is back at her trailer, her home, and she is
- 45:36reading a book, says Voodoo for Dummies and.
- 45:39Is this the the first time that that's introduced?
- 45:41Yes. OK.
- 45:42And I love how they keep it for the rest of the series.
- 45:45Yeah, they they. Just keep that this is like this
- 45:47is. Like this is the guide for
- 45:49voodoo? Apparently, yeah.
- 45:51So Damien, her boyfriend, kind of stops by.
- 45:57I I think that Damien thinks he's her boyfriend.
- 46:01Yeah, they. They she's using him.
- 46:04Yeah. But yeah, he thinks that they're
- 46:06in a relationship. Yeah.
- 46:08I love this whole thing here, too.
- 46:09This is really funny because she's asking like, all right,
- 46:13did you do it or something like that?
- 46:14He's like, yeah, I got the pictures right here.
- 46:16And you just like answer Polaroid.
- 46:18So this is a very 1998 movie, yeah.
- 46:21And it's a guy that has like stuff all over.
- 46:24His face is like red and you can kind of not really make it out.
- 46:28And then she calls bullshit on him because she sees his painted
- 46:31nels and it's just him. It just like swabbing.
- 46:33Shit all over his. Face, Yeah.
- 46:35And he's like, I'm working my way up to it.
- 46:37OK, that's so. Fucking weird that she's like
- 46:40pushing him to be a killer. Well, and he's, like, pushing
- 46:44her for sex. Yeah.
- 46:46And he's like, you know, the French con orgasm El petite
- 46:50morte. How about we die in the little
- 46:54tiff? Yes.
- 46:55Translate it to the little death, yeah.
- 46:57But then he completely ruins his chances with her by making fun
- 47:01of the Chucky doll like not only does.
- 47:04He make fun of it. Not only does he make fun of it,
- 47:07but he's like, look at this fucking thing and he smacks it
- 47:09and he takes it and he fucking humps it, just tosses it.
- 47:15And so she is like, you know what, yeah, let's go ahead and
- 47:18do something. I'm going to tie you up.
- 47:19And then she goes, how do you feel about the.
- 47:21And he goes, well, what? And she goes, I thought you
- 47:23spoke French. And then she sets Chucky on his
- 47:27chest. Hold on, I think it's.
- 47:28Important to make the distinction that she looked
- 47:31around when he was saying like, ask her for sex before and
- 47:34Chucky had disappeared. Yeah, he had moved.
- 47:36From where she had him laid. Out.
- 47:37She knows now. She thought the voodoo trick
- 47:40didn't work initially, and now she realizes Chucky is actually
- 47:43alive now. Yeah.
- 47:44So I just want to make a distinction.
- 47:46Damien as a character is male identifying and presenting.
- 47:50So yeah, that's why we're using he him when referring to the
- 47:54character. So Chucky is on Damien's chest
- 47:58and Tiffany tells the story about being involved with
- 48:02Chucky, and that's when Chucky does his thing.
- 48:06He does a full exorcist and like, spins his head around.
- 48:10I like. It 'cause she's like, yeah, she
- 48:11he's the best I ever had. And then Damien says he's not
- 48:16big enough to handle you, and then he like the size of the.
- 48:20Equipment. That's how you What is it,
- 48:22asshole? The way.
- 48:23Like his head turns around and he does that.
- 48:25It's a great delivery. He cuts him and then he smothers
- 48:29him with a pillow and as he's sitting on the pillow on
- 48:31Damien's face is like looking at him.
- 48:33He goes, So Tiff, how you been? I kind of does it with his butt,
- 48:39yeah. Just sitting there and, you
- 48:42know, they're kind of chit chatting, you know, He says.
- 48:45You look really good. Always thought you'd get fat.
- 48:52So like he's toxic but they're both toxic people.
- 48:55It it's a recipe for disaster, truly, the way that he killed.
- 48:58Him too was gnarly because he pulled out his lip ring.
- 49:01Yeah. Yeah, which didn't kill.
- 49:03Him. But you know, it was just, it
- 49:05sucks. It hurt.
- 49:06Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's very it makes me think of
- 49:09Death Chasm when they, the cousin and his friends pull out
- 49:13his earring, buried his earring. Yeah, that stuff is always
- 49:17upsetting. Yeah.
- 49:18So we cut back over to Warren, who's grilling Jade since he
- 49:21arrived on scene. And he's he's also.
- 49:25Grilling. The boyfriend there, he says I.
- 49:28Won't let you be seen with some trailer trash around town and
- 49:31Jesse says you fuck I'm wearing goes but you won't tonight at.
- 49:36Least, and it's a good scene. That's amazing.
- 49:40And his delivery of that line is perfect too, cuz he sounds very
- 49:44like sociopathic, almost like completely detached.
- 49:48Yeah, he. Absolutely is.
- 49:49Yeah. So we.
- 49:51Come back, Tiff is cooking Swedish meatballs for Chucky cuz
- 49:54that's her favorite and like her mom always said.
- 49:59So she tells him that she found the ring and she's worn it every
- 50:04day since and he said what ring? She goes the ring.
- 50:06It was on the mantle the night you were murdered and he was
- 50:11like, oh, I stole that off of this woman I murdered.
- 50:14It's worth 5-6 K easy. And she's like, oh, I thought
- 50:18you were going to propose and he just fully will aceter, which is
- 50:22not the right response. Yep, so that.
- 50:25Gets her pissed off so she takes him and puts him in a little
- 50:29baby carriage that she has a rig to be a cage Why does she have a
- 50:32baby carriage? You know I'm.
- 50:35She's got a lot of animals, like random animals, like she's got a
- 50:42spider and a fish. I wouldn't be surprised if she
- 50:45had some kind of an animal that needed a little kind of like
- 50:47that at some point. OK.
- 50:53It's just a thought, yeah. Possibly that's.
- 50:55The only explanation I can think of that really makes sense.
- 50:57Yeah. I also like how she tickles them
- 50:59before she puts them in there. Yeah.
- 51:00That is really funny, yeah. All right, next stage.
- 51:06Jesse's outside watching his car and Tiff is out there dragging
- 51:10the body like a chest full of Damien's body and she chest full
- 51:16of. Damien Yeah, the.
- 51:18Classic, and she asked Jesse to help carry it to her car.
- 51:22Yeah. And she's kind of like flirting
- 51:24a little bit. And he like helps her put it in
- 51:27the trunk and then inside check. He's like screaming, Chevy let
- 51:31me the fuck out. He's like company.
- 51:35And she goes, oh, I'm just babysitting foul mouthed little
- 51:38fuckers. Yeah, it's.
- 51:40Really funny. So she was like, let me treat
- 51:44you to a night out. So you're pretty cute.
- 51:47EW, he's 17. And he's like, oh, well, I'm
- 51:51seeing someone. And that, like, that's all it
- 51:54takes to win Tiffany over really, is to show some kind of
- 51:57loyalty like that. And she's like, you make sure
- 51:59you treat her right. You treat her right.
- 52:01Hold her close to the extent that it weirds.
- 52:04Him out, he's like, OK, yeah, it's.
- 52:06Very intense where? She tells.
- 52:08Him, the saying, like my mother always said, you know, if you're
- 52:12gonna do the cooking, at least the man could do the dishes or
- 52:15whatever. And he's like, OK, whatever.
- 52:17So she comes in. Later with a gift for him and
- 52:19then she unwraps Chucky's gift right in front of him, which I
- 52:22think is a little rude. I thought that we were gonna get
- 52:24another one of the classic franchise or Child's Play
- 52:29things, clothing or groceries. Yeah, in a giant.
- 52:31Box, Yeah. And he's like, but before she
- 52:36opens it, he was like, you know, I was thinking about it.
- 52:39And if you want to do the whole domestic thing, you're bright.
- 52:41We should get married. And she goes, I'm glad you think
- 52:44so. Unwraps his gift, and it's a
- 52:46little bright doll. And she sticks it in the kennel
- 52:51with him, it looks. Like it's like a modified Good
- 52:54Guy doll, but I could definitely see somebody just take an old
- 52:57Good Guy dolls and just like reworking them.
- 52:59Absolutely. So she goes and takes a bath.
- 53:04I love this. There's she's got like a little
- 53:06side table next to her tub because it's kind of a detached
- 53:09claw foot tub type situation. She's got a little side table
- 53:13that's got a mini bathtub with a little tiny doll in it.
- 53:18I love it. It's.
- 53:19Cool, I like this scene too because she's watching the news
- 53:21and she sees where they found the body.
- 53:24Yeah, game. Is a total dweeb when he's not
- 53:26in his like, Tiffany date now, Yeah.
- 53:29It's funny. And I like how like the
- 53:32reporters asking the sheriff or whatever questions like, so do
- 53:36you know anything about any of this?
- 53:38And she's like, no, yeah, she's. Answering the reporters
- 53:41questions. It's really funny.
- 53:43And while. Go ahead, I was going to say.
- 53:46Meanwhile, Chucky is using the engagement ring that came with
- 53:50the Bride doll and is using it to, like, saw his way through
- 53:53the wooden bar of this kennel crib thing.
- 53:57And he gets in there. He runs in with a knife.
- 54:01And by this point, she has changed the channel and is
- 54:03watching Bride of Frankenstein and crying.
- 54:05So that definitely feels like an homage to the inspiration for
- 54:07the movie. Oh, definitely.
- 54:08Yeah, they did that intentionally.
- 54:11And Chucky comes running out with a knife, she kicks him, he
- 54:15falls back, hits the stand the TV's on that falls into the tub,
- 54:18electrocutes her and kills her. No.
- 54:20She kicked. Well, yes and no.
- 54:22Like he pushes it in there. OK, Yeah, he charges back and
- 54:25pushes it. OK, Yeah.
- 54:27And he has. Dragged the doll in there with
- 54:29him. So his plan was not necessarily
- 54:31to kill her forever, but he was putting her into a doll body as
- 54:36well. Yeah.
- 54:37I I feel like they were loose with the roles here because she
- 54:41was definitely dead, yeah. And.
- 54:45Before, you're not doing it with a dead person, you're doing it
- 54:47with a live person. Well.
- 54:49Also she like brought him back even though he was dead in the
- 54:53we're beyond hers could be. Yeah, whatever.
- 54:55Who cares? This is a fucking movie, Yeah.
- 54:58So she is very upset. And then she's like saying that
- 55:04she's going to find a way out of this herself.
- 55:05And he says, go ahead. Chapter 6, Page 217, The heart
- 55:09of Dambala. I was wearing it the night I was
- 55:12died. It's buried in my grave in
- 55:13Hackensack, NJ. So she calls up Jesse and offers
- 55:17him $500 to drive the two dolls. Says it has to be right away.
- 55:22And then he's like, make it 1000.
- 55:24And she agrees. She said, I will give you half
- 55:26now. I will leave it with the dolls
- 55:28and my friend in New Jersey will give you the other half when you
- 55:30get there. So he.
- 55:31Takes this opportunity to grab the dolls and when he does, he
- 55:37also decides to go pick up Jade. Yes, so they can all work
- 55:39together. Yes, and.
- 55:41Jade and David are sitting there and she's distraught and David's
- 55:44like, I feel like David has to be emotionally exhausted from
- 55:47being in this little friendship trio.
- 55:50Yeah, he could be that. He could also be the type of guy
- 55:52that loves drama because he like later on when he gets a call
- 55:55from Jesse when they're both calling him, like he gets
- 55:58excited almost. You know what I mean?
- 55:59I think he likes this stuff. But yeah, so he's like, I love
- 56:04you, I want to be with you. Let's get married.
- 56:07And she's like, what? No, we can't do that.
- 56:09He goes, no, listen, I've got $1000 and should I have these
- 56:12dolls? I'll put you through school.
- 56:14We'll make it work. I'll do the.
- 56:16Dishes. Yes, she's like.
- 56:17What are you? Talking about what?
- 56:19Dishes. We don't have dishes.
- 56:23So yeah, she, they, she ends up at Green and they run inside to
- 56:30pack up her stuff. Warren has heard all of this cuz
- 56:33he's, Warren is always lurking. He's always around a corner and
- 56:38he has the drugs and he's calling Norton and he's like,
- 56:42listen, they're going to leave here shortly.
- 56:43I'm putting the drugs in here now.
- 56:45So when he climbs in, Chucky and Tiffany are realizing that that
- 56:51could be a problem for them because they need to get to New
- 56:54Jersey. He they see.
- 56:55Him and he like runs to go grab the drugs and they're game
- 56:58planning how to take him out. Yeah.
- 57:01And he goes for the knife and she's like.
- 57:03Be a little original. It's like Martha, always do what
- 57:06it says when you have an uninvited guest.
- 57:09Like you've got to be ready to improvise.
- 57:11So what do they do? They take some nails and put
- 57:13them by the airbag. And so when Warren gets up
- 57:20close, they activate the airbag and it throws the nails into his
- 57:24head and he looks like Pinhead. Yeah, it's not only.
- 57:27That though, she was also just saying you got to like, that's
- 57:30so 80s, you need to bring yourself to the 90s now because
- 57:33it's not just like knives and shit anymore.
- 57:36People are getting more creative with their kills.
- 57:38And then it gets meta again because they look at Chucky,
- 57:41looks at Warren, and he's like, that looks familiar to me
- 57:44somehow, because he looks like Pinhead.
- 57:46Yeah. Yeah, and they hide the body and
- 57:48then Chucky finds the drugs and sticks some of his little
- 57:50overalls. Something about sticking a
- 57:52gigantic bag of weed until your little flap of your overalls is
- 57:57very funny to me. Yeah.
- 58:01So as they're driving, needle nose ends up pulling them over.
- 58:04And it's this whole thing. They're kind of.
- 58:09I don't even know. It's more than a rest.
- 58:12Like, I don't know. There's a lot of people around.
- 58:15They're at a stop. Yeah.
- 58:18And she's like fighting with Norton cuz she's like, what is
- 58:22my uncle paying you extra to do this?
- 58:24And he goes, yeah, actually he is.
- 58:26And she ends up hitting him and saying I will vaporize you,
- 58:29which doesn't have enough venom coming out of Katherine Heigl's
- 58:33mouth. I feel like she's a she
- 58:36generally plays a sweet girl. So it's just, it just doesn't
- 58:40come across so while. That's going on.
- 58:44Chucky is now game planning on taking out the cop here because
- 58:49he's going to, you know, take out their ride to Hackensack.
- 58:53So he crawls over to the cop car with a little rag, and he stuffs
- 58:59it in the gas sink. And then he lights it on fire.
- 59:01And I like how he's, like, crawling back and one of the
- 59:03guys, like, makes eye contact with him and Chucky just flips
- 59:06him off. Yeah.
- 59:07And the guy? Goes rude dog, Yeah.
- 59:11That's funny, yeah. And they end up.
- 59:12Escaping at this point. Have we found out?
- 59:14Have we heard the radio bulletin about the body being zoomed?
- 59:19I think it's, yeah, I think so. But not only do they escape, I
- 59:23mean, the car fucking explodes and yeah, like there's mass
- 59:27panic and everybody's freaking the fuck out.
- 59:29Yeah. Cuz all of this stuff has
- 59:31happened. So they're so they escape.
- 59:33David calls them Norton Norton's death is on the news.
- 59:38The lighter that was used to cause the explosion belonged to
- 59:41Detective Bailey. And Warren is missing.
- 59:43He's like, you guys are wanted. And there's roadblocks
- 59:45everywhere. So they stopped to elope.
- 59:48Chucky hates ska. Rude.
- 59:50He is a rude fucking doll. Actually.
- 59:52Yeah, I. Yeah, that's, that's funny cuz I
- 59:56like seeing that he's commenting on like, you know, he's getting
- 59:58caught back up culturally. Scott, I get it if you don't
- 1:00:03like it, but I like it. Yeah.
- 1:00:05I just think it's me. I just.
- 1:00:07Think it's me? Yeah.
- 1:00:08So they're at the place they get married.
- 1:00:10They look fucking. Miserable.
- 1:00:13When he changes. It from Scott, he changes it to
- 1:00:16Rob Zombie's first band, White Zombie.
- 1:00:17Yeah. So I thought that was kind of
- 1:00:18funny that we kind of came full circle with that.
- 1:00:21So they're at. The place is a Chapel, but it's
- 1:00:25also like a honeymoon suite. So they have the honeymoon suite
- 1:00:29and they're moving. They're going in there to stay
- 1:00:31for the night and then they're interrupted by another couple
- 1:00:34before. Before they go in, before
- 1:00:37they've come back out to the van, Warren pops back up from
- 1:00:41the like bench that he was stuffed in and they stab him and
- 1:00:44put it back in there again. They is in Truckee.
- 1:00:46Instead, Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's when everybody goes
- 1:00:50inside to the hotel room and this other couple bursts in and
- 1:00:57the girl was like, oh, I remember these dolls.
- 1:01:00This one's a little busted up. And he goes, hi, I'm Chucky and
- 1:01:05I wouldn't talk if I were you. Yeah, that's.
- 1:01:08Really funny they got a different voice actor for the
- 1:01:10good guy Dallas's son. It definitely sounds like a
- 1:01:12different. Person but if they were if
- 1:01:14they've been using a small child for the past few, well, not
- 1:01:17only. It's a fully reconstructed body
- 1:01:19too. Could it makes sense?
- 1:01:21Well, I'm just saying. Like the voice actor was a child
- 1:01:23before so I wonder if her voice was just different by this
- 1:01:28point. Who knows?
- 1:01:30Yeah, we could find out if we wanted to look at the credits,
- 1:01:33but we don't. Yeah, I.
- 1:01:34Didn't do that part of the research because it was just one
- 1:01:36line and it didn't occur to me, yeah.
- 1:01:40Either way, the whole thing here is the couple was trying to like
- 1:01:43get them into doing a swinger type situation here, but it's.
- 1:01:47Actually just a distraction so they can steal their money.
- 1:01:50Yeah, cuz they saw the cash. But you know who sees them steal
- 1:01:53the money? Tiffany and Chucky.
- 1:01:56And Tiffany is, she's offended. She is offended, She's offended.
- 1:02:01Because they both got married. Yeah, like, that couple just got
- 1:02:05married also, and they're already trying to, like, fuck
- 1:02:08around. Yeah.
- 1:02:09So she goes over there not only for the money, but for that and,
- 1:02:12yeah, kills. Then.
- 1:02:14I like this kill like this kill is.
- 1:02:16Beautiful. And it feels very referential to
- 1:02:19Suspiria and The Shining. Yeah, so.
- 1:02:21She is walking up and she grabs one of the champagne bottles and
- 1:02:25they have one of those mirrors at the roof or the ceiling lamp
- 1:02:30and inside roof. Yeah.
- 1:02:33You know, Yeah. In a manner of.
- 1:02:34Speaking, and she takes. The bottle and they make eye
- 1:02:37contact and she tosses it up there and it shatters and it
- 1:02:41falls on them, stabbing them and getting the waterbed waterbed.
- 1:02:45So it's awash with gross. We talked about this and I feel
- 1:02:50like the water in a motel waterbed has to be just like
- 1:02:55teeming with diseases. It's got to be this.
- 1:02:58Yeah, yeah. But yeah, so they die.
- 1:03:02And Chucky is so amazed by the skill and so turned on, he
- 1:03:07proposes to Tiffany. And they do it like they do on
- 1:03:11the Discovery Channel. So, you know, that's that's
- 1:03:14their thing. She he was like, you know, I am
- 1:03:17anatomically correct. And she's like realizing that
- 1:03:20she's crying and she's like, I wonder if the plumbing works.
- 1:03:24I'll swear too. Which is weird I.
- 1:03:26Feel like she's got her humanness a lot sooner than he
- 1:03:32did, yeah. Yeah, you know, fast and loose
- 1:03:36with the rules. It's fine.
- 1:03:38It's fast and. Loose, but I still want to point
- 1:03:40it out. I think it's fair.
- 1:03:44Jade and Jesse are both really really awkward.
- 1:03:47Jesse goes for a walk while Jade makes a call to David and she's
- 1:03:50like, I think maybe Jesse killed them.
- 1:03:54And Jesse meanwhile saying, I think maybe Jade killed them.
- 1:04:00And then the next morning they're telling each other that
- 1:04:03they don't trust each other. And then David is there and he's
- 1:04:05kind of trying to mediate. He's like, listen, it's probably
- 1:04:08Warren. He's a psychopath.
- 1:04:10He's always trying to like split you guys apart and frame you for
- 1:04:12things. And they're like, you know what?
- 1:04:14That makes so much sense. Can't believe I would ever abuse
- 1:04:17you of murder, babe. I'm so sorry, babe.
- 1:04:18I forgive you, babe. Do you forgive me, babe?
- 1:04:20I forgive you, babe. Well, all that's.
- 1:04:21Happening. David has checked the back area
- 1:04:23and he sees a little bit of blood and he opens up the chest
- 1:04:26back there and he finds Warren's body.
- 1:04:28So now he thinks they're both the killers.
- 1:04:31And then he. Takes Warren's gun and he forces
- 1:04:34them to pull over and as they're pulling over, he goes out of the
- 1:04:36back of the van, sees a cop and is like waving at them from
- 1:04:39they're going the other side of the highway.
- 1:04:40So the cop is trying to turn around and Chucky and Tiffany
- 1:04:45get the other gun and they hold up the whole truck or the whole
- 1:04:49van and they're just trying to like, you know, say hey, like
- 1:04:52when you get through all of this and David gets hit by a truck
- 1:04:56RIP, I like it because. It's unexpected, it is.
- 1:04:59It definitely is. It is a good death.
- 1:05:01And then? They essentially carjack Jayden,
- 1:05:03Jesse, kind of what they were doing before, but now it's more
- 1:05:08upfront. Overt, yeah.
- 1:05:10So they are planning to take their bodies.
- 1:05:14That that's what they're going to do is they're going to swap
- 1:05:16out their bodies. And as they've revealed that
- 1:05:19plan, the radio announces that Charles Lee Ray's prints have
- 1:05:23been found at a crime scene. So the body is to be exhumed the
- 1:05:27next day. And they're like, OK, well,
- 1:05:29we've got to get there ASAP. This van is going to be really
- 1:05:32wanted. So we've got to get a new set of
- 1:05:35wheels. And what they do is they kill
- 1:05:37another couple and take their RV.
- 1:05:40While they're in the RV, Tiffany has cooked more Swedish
- 1:05:43meatballs and cookies for Chucky, and Chucky is lapping it
- 1:05:47up. And Jessie, Ding, Ding, Ding,
- 1:05:50bright idea is like, not much of A housekeeper, though, is she?
- 1:05:57He Well, she. Revealed that it's her, which is
- 1:06:00why he's getting this idea. Like, you know, not like a
- 1:06:03random doll, like, oh, the dishes, you know, Yeah.
- 1:06:07No, he. He.
- 1:06:07Realized it was Tiffany his neighbor so he knew like what
- 1:06:10her beliefs and so far yeah because it they.
- 1:06:12Come clean about the whole thing.
- 1:06:14Yeah, so and that's. When they were like saying they
- 1:06:16were going to steal their bodies and everything.
- 1:06:17So when he gets the spread idea, he decides he's going to poke
- 1:06:21the bear and he's like, well, she's not not so good on the
- 1:06:24housework now, is she? And Chuck, he's like, hey, Tiff,
- 1:06:27do those dishes and Jade. To her credit, she didn't hear
- 1:06:31about this whole thing, but she picked up on what was going on,
- 1:06:34and she goes, you've been cooking for him all day.
- 1:06:36The least you could do is help with the dishes.
- 1:06:38And Tiffany goes nuts. This is my favorite version of
- 1:06:44Tiffany is what? She's just completely unhinged.
- 1:06:46And she's angry about something that in the grand scheme of
- 1:06:50Maine, can in the grand scheme of things, considering she's
- 1:06:52like a multiple murderer, like, she's angry about their little
- 1:06:56domestic squabble. Yeah, she has her.
- 1:06:58Code. Yeah, she has her own little.
- 1:07:00It's the honor among. Thieves you know, I I always
- 1:07:03love that in a movie as they have their own set of like yeah
- 1:07:07standards. I like how.
- 1:07:08They dispatch with them here too, like Jade just kicks her in
- 1:07:12an oven like. And she's fully tied up.
- 1:07:14Too, by the way. And Chucky.
- 1:07:16Is like shocked he doesn't want her to be in the oven.
- 1:07:20I think for all their toxicity I do think he actually loves her.
- 1:07:24They do care. For each other, yeah.
- 1:07:25It's just in a weird, fucked up way.
- 1:07:27So he shoots Jade, and then in the instant that he did that,
- 1:07:32Jesse punches him out of the window.
- 1:07:35So all of this chaos has caused Jesse to wreck and they have
- 1:07:39like wrecked on like the whole side of the road here.
- 1:07:42And it's a worse. Wreck than normal because
- 1:07:44they're in an RV which has like a gas oven and stuff and they've
- 1:07:47got live wires and water and stuff going.
- 1:07:49So Jesse has to get over there to try and get Jade free and as
- 1:07:54he's doing that Tiffany pops out of the oven and is attacking
- 1:07:58Jade but Jesse saves her and then Chucky appears with a gun
- 1:08:03as they get out of the RV right before it explodes.
- 1:08:07So Chucky has Jade hostage and Jesse has Tiff.
- 1:08:13So they get to the grave and Chucky shoots the gravedigger
- 1:08:18and makes Jade open the coffin and it's like, here's the thing.
- 1:08:22How would examine his body makes sense if his fingerprints were
- 1:08:26at a site because he's got he ain't got skin.
- 1:08:31I think that they. Just wanted to check the corpse
- 1:08:33I guess. Maybe.
- 1:08:34I don't know. Either way, the amulet's still
- 1:08:37there. And so they're like, cool, we're
- 1:08:39gonna have, you know, our thing that we need and just see.
- 1:08:43And Chucky trade their hostages. And Jessie and Jade have this
- 1:08:47like, sweet moment. They're reconciling.
- 1:08:49They're holding each other and kissing.
- 1:08:50And Tiffany tries to go to Chucky and she's like, hold me
- 1:08:54Chucky. And he's like, she is charred.
- 1:08:58What little hair she has left is like frizzy and a nightmare.
- 1:09:02And she's in pain too, because, again, that whole, like,
- 1:09:05starting to turn human thing. And she's also an emotional pain
- 1:09:09because Chucky is a bastard man. Chucky throws his knife in
- 1:09:13Jesse. That's it.
- 1:09:14Yeah. And.
- 1:09:15Then they tie them both up and as they're tied up, before they
- 1:09:18start doing the whole like ritual thing, Tiffany stabs
- 1:09:22Chucky and they fight a little bit and he ends up stabbing her.
- 1:09:26And she's like my mother always said that love will save your
- 1:09:32life or something like that. She's like, but with you it's
- 1:09:35killing me. So Jesse shovels Chucky into his
- 1:09:40grave. He just, like, takes him and
- 1:09:42just, like, bashes him in there. And then that's when the
- 1:09:45detective arrives. Yep.
- 1:09:46And we get the tried and true thing of the series where, you
- 1:09:50know, an officer is somebody of authority comes into the
- 1:09:54situation and they see the doll and they're like, well, fuck,
- 1:09:57who's going to believe us? Yeah.
- 1:09:58And. He's like, you guys are are free
- 1:10:00to go. I'm clearing your name.
- 1:10:02I'll figure out what to do with all this.
- 1:10:05Jade has shot Jackie by this point as well.
- 1:10:07Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:10:07Check his stuff SO. He tell like he makes his call.
- 1:10:12He says it wasn't them. And then he's like looking
- 1:10:15around the crime scene and he finds Tiffany and he's like
- 1:10:19poking at her. And you can see him kind of
- 1:10:21being like a little wary cuz he's like, well, I know I
- 1:10:25definitely just saw that other doll alive and attacking them.
- 1:10:27But like, he also seems a little like, I feel like I'm being
- 1:10:30silly. And then Tiffany sits up,
- 1:10:33screams, and then shoots out a baby.
- 1:10:37Yeah. And that's how the movie ends,
- 1:10:39and that's how it. Ends and I'm always so glad when
- 1:10:42I see this piece of it because. I could.
- 1:10:47Never. I always forget about this piece
- 1:10:50cuz in my head it's like the seat of Chucky was their next
- 1:10:55idea for the movie and they had to kind of be like, Oh yeah,
- 1:10:57well, obviously she got pregnant when it happened.
- 1:10:59I forget that. Yeah, it's already.
- 1:11:01Written in, yeah. So I think that's nice.
- 1:11:04I'm planning ahead, all right. I think I'm gonna bump it to a
- 1:11:07nine and a half. I like this movie.
- 1:11:09Why it's it's it's a contender for my favorite in the
- 1:11:14franchise. Absolutely, it's it's way up
- 1:11:18there for me. Like you said, contender for
- 1:11:20favorite. I'm keeping mine at a 9.75,
- 1:11:22which brings us up to a 9.625 and that's a lot less rude than
- 1:11:27the fuckers on IMDBI know I can't.
- 1:11:30Believe this movie is a 5 something well.
- 1:11:34Not to shoot a head too far, but like when I was looking at
- 1:11:37reviews, a lot of the negative reviews were for people that
- 1:11:39just don't like camp or they don't like Jennifer Tilley for
- 1:11:44whatever reason. Probably because they're insane.
- 1:11:46She's she's. Got a very distinct voice that I
- 1:11:49could find. I could.
- 1:11:50I don't find it, but I can see how some people would find it.
- 1:11:53Grating. Well, you.
- 1:11:54Also married me and I don't have like a pleasing voice so I.
- 1:11:58Disagree about that? But also, there were people that
- 1:12:04don't like Chucky's, like, facial scarring in this.
- 1:12:07Seriously, they don't like his some together look.
- 1:12:09Yeah, I love it. Yeah, it's one of my favorite.
- 1:12:12Like I honestly wish he kept that look.
- 1:12:15I ended up. Going with a critic review.
- 1:12:16But yeah, that seemed to be what the consensus was, at least for
- 1:12:19the people on IMDb that don't like this.
- 1:12:21They just didn't like the camp aspect of it.
- 1:12:23Weird. OK, So what is one thing you
- 1:12:27would change to bump it up even higher?
- 1:12:32You can be a little mana, but just, like, lose some of it, I
- 1:12:36don't know, like have your own identity as a that's Scream
- 1:12:40Sing. Like every every swasher
- 1:12:42franchise has their own thing. I know Friday 13th started as
- 1:12:45like a imitation of Halloween, but it became its own thing.
- 1:12:48Yeah. And Chucky was already his own
- 1:12:50thing. Just, you know, go into it, man.
- 1:12:52People are there for that. When if we want mana, we'll go
- 1:12:55watch Scream, OK? What do we think Talia thought
- 1:12:59of this I. Think she's always wary of
- 1:13:04Chucky because she doesn't trust the doll since we have a good
- 1:13:07guy doll in her house, so that always upsets her.
- 1:13:11But she was having a good time. I remember she was pushing the
- 1:13:14button just like getting it to say Talia over and over again.
- 1:13:18Yeah, we. Have we have buttons around the
- 1:13:20house for like 1 to let her know and she was like wow this is
- 1:13:22just what we call her happy button.
- 1:13:24It used to be her hello button, so that way she'd stop jumping
- 1:13:27on people when they walk in. But it turned into she hits it
- 1:13:31every time. She's really happy, so it just
- 1:13:33says random things because she kept rerecording it.
- 1:13:36Right now it's my mom in Russian saying Talia, you're a good
- 1:13:39girl. Yeah.
- 1:13:40But she, like she kept going. She would hit it.
- 1:13:43She would start it and stop it. So it just kept going.
- 1:13:45Talia. Talia.
- 1:13:47Yeah. Talia.
- 1:13:48Yeah. She just wants to hear.
- 1:13:49Her name, so it's really funny. So I think she had a good time
- 1:13:54at this, but she. Did near the end, she built her
- 1:13:57her smut wall once again, except this time it wasn't a smut wall.
- 1:14:00It was just a doll wall. Yeah, because she she doesn't
- 1:14:03trust these dolls. Well, she was offended when she
- 1:14:06saw there were two dolls on the screen.
- 1:14:08They and. There was smut involved with
- 1:14:10them, that's true that. Was true Slutty dolls, Slutty
- 1:14:14sluts. OK, So what do you think she
- 1:14:15rated? It I think.
- 1:14:18Even though. She yeah, I was gonna say even
- 1:14:20though she didn't personally love it, she she respects the
- 1:14:22humor in it. Yeah, the.
- 1:14:24Campiness. And I think she probably likes
- 1:14:26Jennifer Tilly. Yeah.
- 1:14:28Oh. She definitely loves Jennifer
- 1:14:29Tilly and then the fact that, you know, the dolls both like
- 1:14:32die in the end, I think she's OK with.
- 1:14:35I don't think Tiff died, she gave birth details.
- 1:14:40Talia had her wallop by that point.
- 1:14:42Yeah, true. OK, who is always Ultimate
- 1:14:46Warrior? Well, let's say Tiff this time.
- 1:14:52OK, she knew what she. Wanted.
- 1:14:55She went out and got it. She was toying with Damien,
- 1:15:01which Zoe does with her victims. And she spent a lot of time
- 1:15:05cooking food. She.
- 1:15:07Loves food, yes. Yeah.
- 1:15:09OK, I'll accept that. OK, who?
- 1:15:12Did. You relate to.
- 1:15:14I would. Relate to the dude in the park
- 1:15:16and what they called Chucky. A rude doll.
- 1:15:19Rude. Fucking doll.
- 1:15:22Yeah, I bet he was in a skull band.
- 1:15:24He looked. Like he had a he.
- 1:15:26Definitely. Had a trumpet in his trunk.
- 1:15:28I think he had a. Fedora on yeah.
- 1:15:32He just, he had a bowler shirt on underneath that jacket, you
- 1:15:35know what I mean? Yeah, OK.
- 1:15:39I mean, I already said it, but I think I relate to Tiffany just,
- 1:15:42like, aesthetically. Yeah, you know, and weird quips
- 1:15:46I have about life and things like that.
- 1:15:49Martha Stewart. I really enjoy Martha Stewart's
- 1:15:53friendship with Snoop Dogg. That is probably my favorite
- 1:15:56thing about her. That's a weird thing.
- 1:15:58I love. It though I'm and like they're
- 1:16:01legitimately they're good buddies.
- 1:16:04They went horseback riding for her birthday.
- 1:16:06This is cynical. Of me to think that that might
- 1:16:08be manufactured, I don't think it.
- 1:16:11Is though You don't think so? I don't think so.
- 1:16:14I think she needed to bounce back cred wise after going to
- 1:16:16prison. I don't know, actually, That
- 1:16:19gives her more credit, yeah. It depends, I guess.
- 1:16:22It was insider trading, so it wasn't anything terrible.
- 1:16:25Yeah. But yeah, like why do you need
- 1:16:27to? Insider trade Martha, you're
- 1:16:29yeah, you're a whole. Fucking brand, you're rich.
- 1:16:31Yeah, OK. Anyway, what's the next tagline?
- 1:16:37A new tagline. OK.
- 1:16:39We don't do dream. Sequel on our franchise
- 1:16:41episodes. Yeah, it's true.
- 1:16:45Bright or. Die.
- 1:16:47Bright or die, That's great. I need everybody to know I just
- 1:16:52did a thing that I do when I get really excited about something
- 1:16:54really stupid I just came up with, which is I grabbed
- 1:16:57Travis's shoulder and cover my mouth for like a solid 30
- 1:17:02seconds, which I'm sure he cut out most of the silence, yeah.
- 1:17:05I'll try I'll. Widen it out cuz I yeah, audio
- 1:17:08podcasts here that's a great tackling ride or die die that's.
- 1:17:13Really good. That could have been on the
- 1:17:15poster. Yay, all right.
- 1:17:21So no dream sequels. So I guess that means it's time
- 1:17:24for reviews. Yeah, OK.
- 1:17:25I ended up going with going for a review from New York Times
- 1:17:30because there wasn't a Roger Ebert 1 to go from anything.
- 1:17:33He would fucking hate this movie.
- 1:17:35Yeah, we've. Heard from him already and let's
- 1:17:37fuck that guy, OK? Did you say let's not fuck that
- 1:17:41guy? I may have strung together 2
- 1:17:46separate thoughts that may have said that, so in reality, fuck
- 1:17:52that guy. But let's not.
- 1:17:54Let's not, yeah. Brad or Chucky carrying a torch
- 1:17:59for a malevolent doll by Lawrence Van Gelder.
- 1:18:02And I'm not gonna read the whole thing, and some of it's just
- 1:18:06like a recap of the movie, but I'm gonna read these opening
- 1:18:08paragraphs. A handful of jokes about Martha
- 1:18:11Stewart, a dig at Barbie and an excursion into the sex life of
- 1:18:14toys cannot rescue the comic Grand Genol that is Bride of
- 1:18:18Chucky from the graveyard and graveyard of horror sequels that
- 1:18:22lose the heartbeat of inspiration long before they die
- 1:18:24of box office anemia. Bride of Chucky, directed this
- 1:18:28time by Ronnie U, splatters blood, piles up corpses and puts
- 1:18:31two star crust young lovers in peril before it reaches the
- 1:18:34inevitable conclusion in Hackensack, NJ, graveyard.
- 1:18:38That suggests that the family of Chucky films that began in 1988
- 1:18:42with Child's Play is prepared to grow yet again.
- 1:18:44But the novelty of a bloody horror film built around a
- 1:18:47malevolent dog carrying the soul of a serial killer has worn
- 1:18:50thin. OK.
- 1:18:54Like, I don't think it's exhausted yet, you know?
- 1:18:57Yeah. I think that like they are
- 1:19:00constantly on a quest to keep it new with different ideas and a
- 1:19:04different way of doing it. It's really kind of.
- 1:19:07Interesting because most horror franchises, especially slashers,
- 1:19:11never really tried to reinvent themselves.
- 1:19:13They just like it's repeat formula over and over again.
- 1:19:15But yeah, they've, they've done a good job of like innovating or
- 1:19:21just like, you know, shaking it up a little bit every single
- 1:19:23time, I think. This franchise especially is
- 1:19:26really interesting because we've got, you know, the first one
- 1:19:30which is very serious, the second one which leans, the
- 1:19:33second and third ones which lean a little bit more into the humor
- 1:19:36but are still pretty serious. Then this one and Seed are going
- 1:19:39to learn a lot more into the humor than anything.
- 1:19:41Yeah, Coles and Kurt are going to come back.
- 1:19:43Coles Curse. Curse.
- 1:19:45And Colt Coles. Jesus.
- 1:19:48The fact that you. Had a second like a chance and
- 1:19:50you still did it. The next two after these two are
- 1:19:57very much another tonal shift, but they bring an interesting
- 1:20:02element to it that will end up leading the way into the sci-fi
- 1:20:05show. And the sci-fi show I think
- 1:20:07blends all of the ideas together.
- 1:20:09Like it's got camp elements that aren't over the top.
- 1:20:12Like Devin Sawa constantly in the show playing different
- 1:20:16characters. That's fucking hilarious and I
- 1:20:18love it. So we've got things like that.
- 1:20:22We've got like references to other like horror media, but
- 1:20:27we've also got like just a lot of mean vicious kills.
- 1:20:31So I think this franchise is just, it's really fascinating
- 1:20:35how it's always playing with it's like tone and identity and
- 1:20:38it's always willing to evolve. Yeah.
- 1:20:41I And that's one of the things I think I like about it the most
- 1:20:44is like every movie is its own thing you.
- 1:20:49You can have a child's play movie for every mood pretty
- 1:20:53much. Yeah.
- 1:20:54It's like the. Wrecking Ball of franchise?
- 1:20:57Yeah, you can. Run to it.
- 1:20:58You can cry to it. Yeah, it's funny.
- 1:21:03Yeah. So it's just, I don't know, it's
- 1:21:06just, I think it's really fascinating.
- 1:21:08And I get why people might be put off by this major tonal
- 1:21:13shift. Yeah.
- 1:21:15And we have the benefit of coming at it from the lens of
- 1:21:19like seeing where it's gone to from here.
- 1:21:21Well. To be fair, I watched this back
- 1:21:24when it came out and I liked it. Yeah, you know, like it.
- 1:21:27That's the thing. Like, it was a great movie then,
- 1:21:31it's a great movie now, but I. Also think we are very much
- 1:21:34people who do tend to appreciate the type of humor that's present
- 1:21:38in this movie too. Yeah.
- 1:21:41And we also can embrace that it's a scary concept and a silly
- 1:21:45concept all in one, which I think a lot of people don't want
- 1:21:48to acknowledge that It's also, it's very silly when you think
- 1:21:52about it. I just think it's.
- 1:21:54Funny because the series was obviously trending in this
- 1:21:57direction, you know what I mean? Like I don't want to discount or
- 1:22:03discredit other people here with their opinions and why not
- 1:22:07because it's all valid. But to me it just like this was
- 1:22:11the natural progression. I agree.
- 1:22:14It makes sense and as much as I love Colson Kurt as I will just
- 1:22:19call them from now on. Those are that's the name of our
- 1:22:23our next to like bonded pair of cats will adopt It is that's a
- 1:22:32very dramatic tonal shift and that makes sense like
- 1:22:35contextually for the franchise, but it is a little bit different
- 1:22:39in terms of like how all of the movies felt that they've trended
- 1:22:42this direction. You know, I like all of.
- 1:22:44Them I like the I like the series when they try to go
- 1:22:46straight horror. I like the series when they try
- 1:22:48to go like comedy and camp. You know, it's all good for me.
- 1:22:51Yeah, yes, I just like the characters.
- 1:22:53That's the thing. Yeah.
- 1:22:54Stank Mancini. Does a really good job of
- 1:22:56writing like characters you want to root for his writing's.
- 1:23:00Good. And the characters are good and
- 1:23:03ultimately as long as that, like both of those things are
- 1:23:06consistent. Like I still have fun, yeah.
- 1:23:09And. Honestly, just like I said
- 1:23:12already, Brad Dorff puts his whole back into his voice acting
- 1:23:15for Chucky, and Jennifer Tilley just brings like, I'm going to
- 1:23:20do French again as Jeanne Sequa into her role as Tiffany and
- 1:23:25also eventually herself. Yeah.
- 1:23:29Yeah, she becomes Canon part of this also.
- 1:23:32Because Gina Gershon appears on the TV show.
- 1:23:36And I just think it's important to note that Gina Gershon, who
- 1:23:38was her Co star on Bound, encouraged her to take this role
- 1:23:41too. Really.
- 1:23:42Yeah. So I think that's just just an
- 1:23:44important little footnote. Yeah.
- 1:23:46All right, so I guess we're ready to do some list of
- 1:23:50reviews. Indeed we are.
- 1:23:51OK. So where are we starting?
- 1:23:55We'll start here over on Twitter, where Zombie says this
- 1:24:00is where the Chucky series really starts up.
- 1:24:02One is classic, two and three are OK, but from here on out, we
- 1:24:06get the Chucky we all know and love.
- 1:24:08All sanity out the window. I agree with that.
- 1:24:11All sanity out the window. That's the way you need to
- 1:24:13describe this that. Answered 90% of the questions
- 1:24:17that I had throughout this episode.
- 1:24:19Yeah, I agree. Yeah.
- 1:24:20This is like, this is where I really think that they found
- 1:24:23themselves. Yeah.
- 1:24:25This is the movie where it all just kind of like became its
- 1:24:28thing. It is a pivotal.
- 1:24:29Point in the series. Yeah, for sure.
- 1:24:32Jurassic Souls just simply says iconic, which, yeah, I think
- 1:24:37that this is an iconic movie, really.
- 1:24:38Like, I think a lot of times when people think of Chucky,
- 1:24:41they think of this version. Whenever I see, like, old kids
- 1:24:44do, like Chucky costumes. My nephew, our nephew, yeah.
- 1:24:47Like when my sister dressed him up for Halloween when he was a
- 1:24:49little baby, she did this version where he was all like,
- 1:24:52stitched up and stuff. And we're doing.
- 1:24:54A Chuck and Tiffany cosplay for Scarefest and this is the
- 1:24:57version we're doing. I'm gonna be putting, yeah, I'm
- 1:24:59gonna be putting scars on your face and I'm gonna make a Barbie
- 1:25:03Eater heart out, you know? Yeah.
- 1:25:06OK, And then we have not so much a review, but Marnie says I
- 1:25:12haven't seen it, but I really want to.
- 1:25:13And a bunch of frowny faces. Marnie, you should totally see.
- 1:25:16It it's on Netflix, it's rentable elsewhere.
- 1:25:18I don't know if you're in the United States, though.
- 1:25:20That's presumptuous of me. Yeah, but.
- 1:25:21You know, if you get an opportunity to check it out,
- 1:25:23absolutely check it out. That's amazing.
- 1:25:26I think it's. One of those movies that I would
- 1:25:28definitely tell basically anybody who has kind of an
- 1:25:31interest in horror to like watch it and if they don't like it,
- 1:25:35like they don't like it, but it's a safe recommendation cuz
- 1:25:38it I thought you could start. Out with this one and look like
- 1:25:41Chucky said if like this is like that movie it has like 3
- 1:25:44prequels beforehand if you really need to get extra war
- 1:25:47yeah but it's. Not it's not essential.
- 1:25:50To any of it, yeah, you can. Come in blind to this one and
- 1:25:54you pick up enough yeah, I think that's also a really great cuz
- 1:25:58like 1 and 2. I feel like you have to see one
- 1:26:00to get two. Yeah cuz 2.
- 1:26:02Picks up like immediately after the events or not immediately
- 1:26:05but like trauma from the first one.
- 1:26:07Plays like a heavy role in three.
- 1:26:11You could. Maybe pick up on its own.
- 1:26:13I think it would be OK enough because they have like the new
- 1:26:17little kid. Yeah, all you need to.
- 1:26:19Know is Andy just had a traumatic run in with him back
- 1:26:21in the day and so you. Get enough of that but like this
- 1:26:26one definitely could be like its own stand alone yeah I.
- 1:26:29Think so. So yeah, check it out.
- 1:26:31And I just want everybody. Also to know that I was drinking
- 1:26:33from my very special Chucky Charms mug as we were recording
- 1:26:37this. OK, And the final review is from
- 1:26:41Michael E Howard, who says Bride of Chucky is so much fun.
- 1:26:45It's also the introduction of Jennifer Tilley to the
- 1:26:47franchise. She is just the crazy Chucky
- 1:26:49needs. We have voodoo murder doll
- 1:26:52weddings and doll sex and ridiculous gore. 9 out of 10.
- 1:26:56You know what? Yes, she has the right kind of
- 1:26:59energy to match Chuckies, but it's not necessarily even just
- 1:27:02like, like they're not the same character.
- 1:27:06And I think that's another really great thing about her,
- 1:27:10like her introduction into the series, because she is every bit
- 1:27:15as sadistic and twisted as Chucky is, but in a completely
- 1:27:19different way. So you see how they make a good
- 1:27:22pair, but you also see how they would be so completely fucking
- 1:27:26toxic for each other. They're terrible.
- 1:27:28But they complement each other well, yes.
- 1:27:31Yes, which is? Not good for anybody, no.
- 1:27:33Even themselves, no. But yeah, they work well
- 1:27:36together. And also.
- 1:27:37She gets even more fucking deranged in the show.
- 1:27:40I love. I love Jennifer Tilley in the TV
- 1:27:44show, especially like she she's like having to pull like triple
- 1:27:50duty in it and she does an amazing job.
- 1:27:53Yeah, it. Gets real good.
- 1:27:54This is like a surprisingly consistent series.
- 1:27:57Yeah. OK, OK, that's it for our
- 1:28:00reviews. It is.
- 1:28:01And that's also it for this movie.
- 1:28:04So we'll be back with the Child's Play franchise next
- 1:28:07month with Seed of Chalky. What else is in store for
- 1:28:09October? We don't know yet.
- 1:28:12It's our special month, though. It is our special.
- 1:28:15Month we so in this. Month right here.
- 1:28:17For anybody new, we each take a movie, so I'll pick a movie that
- 1:28:22Jesse's never seen that I've seen for my movie.
- 1:28:24Jesse will do the same. And then we'll do our franchise,
- 1:28:28obviously, but then we'll also do for, I think, our Halloween
- 1:28:311A movie that neither of us have seen.
- 1:28:32Yeah, and. We'll try and find a couple of
- 1:28:34those. That'll probably end up being
- 1:28:36the Patreon vote, so budget to your bobbies.
- 1:28:39Be sure that you are checking the feed for that vote because
- 1:28:42that's going to be coming out this week.
- 1:28:45Also be checking the feed for your bonus episode spoiler.
- 1:28:47We're probably going to do a movie commentary because we got
- 1:28:49new mics that we're excited to use.
- 1:28:51Oh yeah. I didn't even think about that,
- 1:28:53but it's not a bad idea. Yep.
- 1:28:55We we had talked about it, but it's been like a month since we
- 1:28:58talked about doing that Next. So, yeah.
- 1:29:03So be on the lookout for that. And you know, the link to our
- 1:29:06Patreon is at the very bottom of our show notes.
- 1:29:08So if you want to join the Legion of Bubbies, you can.
- 1:29:12Yeah. But in the meantime, we want to
- 1:29:14go ahead and shout those folks out.
- 1:29:16We've got Joe Freakatron, as is his name, Frei to Tron.
- 1:29:19I'm sorry. Frei to Tron.
- 1:29:20Yes, get it correct, seasonally appropriate.
- 1:29:22He keeps switching it up. You got to stay on top of it,
- 1:29:25that's true. I don't know what it is, I'm
- 1:29:27sure it's the same. Amber Michael, Lord Zombie at
- 1:29:31Tyler and Chad, Yeah. Thank you guys so much.

- 1:30:07Patreon funds are always used to go back to the show.
- 1:30:10So it's things like it, it pays for the website, it pays for new
- 1:30:13equipment. We've been doing those like
- 1:30:17short form parody videos recently and we we've.
- 1:30:22Self funded all of that stuff. None of that stuff has been from
- 1:30:25the Patreon. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:30:29Yeah, I get. It but yeah, everything that you

- 1:30:47reviewing and subscribing to the show wherever you're listening
- 1:30:50to it on. It tells the algorithm that
- 1:30:52we're really cool and you like us, and when we read positive
- 1:30:55reviews it makes us feel good. I have low self esteem also.

- 1:31:23what's your least favorite kind of movie?

- 1:32:15get them in the mail to y'all, yeah.
- 1:32:17And that printer was something that we used Patreon funds for.
