- 0:00[SPEAKER_03]: There's a difference between saying something as bad and to lead to I'm bad and asking yourself, is it serving me?
- 0:08[SPEAKER_03]: If the answer is yes, fuck what people think.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_03]: If it's a yes and tomorrow it's a yes and then the next week it's a yes and the next month it's a no, then you make a change.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome to the Beat till you see it podcast, where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_03]: I'm also Logan, Ply's instructor, and fit this business coach.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_03]: I've trained thousands of people around the world, and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_03]: My friends, action brings clarity, and it's the antidote to fear.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_03]: Each week, my guests will bring bold, executable, intrinsic, and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and be it until you see it.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_03]: It's a practice, not a perfect, let's get started.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome back to the be it till you see interview recap of my co-hosts and life Brad and I are going to dig into the authentic combo I had with Anthony Beninati in our last episode if you haven't yet listened to that one you've missed out you definitely missed out I don't like to go around saying you may mistakes but you don't suck or anything but
- 1:27[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_03]: Before I get into that, today is August, twenty eight, twenty five, and it is national rainbow bridge, remember in stay and on this day, of course, it's going to say rainbow bridge twice.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_03]: So the death of a beloved pet.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_03]: Whether it's the family dog, a furry kitty, or some little more obscure, is a sad occasion.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_03]: Rainbow Bridge remains day on August, twenty-eighths a day that we remember the pets that are no longer with us.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_03]: Whilst the pain of losing a pet, you can't laugh or talk about dead dogs babe.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_03]: But we are laughing because Rainbow Bridge Rembrandt's day is a day we remember our pets.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_03]: We got that from Rembrandt's, you know, like we got it.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_03]: Anyways, whilst the pain of losing a pet, some what heals over time, they're never forgotten and today is their day.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_03]: The day was founded by author Deborah Barnes as a way for people to share their memories of the pets.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_03]: They have lost whether it's a dog, a hamster or a snake, or, you know, anything in between.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, maybe this is the day that we
- 2:29[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe actually, like, say it.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I was thinking.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_03]: What do you want to say it?
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I do.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: Also, I think it's great that it's in the month of August.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_03]: I know.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_03]: It's like we knew.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: If you didn't know, less than I have only one dog now.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: And it's been a couple of months that we lost August as well.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: And what I say as well, what I mean is last year, we lost Gaia towards the end of the year.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: And then about six months later, we also lost August.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: And that was really, really challenging.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: And not something that we talked about very often.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_03]: I know, well, because there's a difference.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's what it was important about this day.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_03]: And like, if you needed this day, it's like, there's something
- 3:13[SPEAKER_03]: It was something easier.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it felt really hard at the time when we had like a day to say goodbye to Gaia.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like we knew for years the day was coming.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_03]: And we could see it was time.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_03]: And we had a different situation with August where it was just like, oh.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: It was unexpected.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_03]: This is happening to this is happening today.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_03]: And that's that like that's just not enough time for your brain to button like that way, miss them differently, but we did I do like it's just a different grief.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: It felt like a different grief.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: I felt like with guy I had a lot more opportunity to say goodbye ahead of time.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and then once when it was gone, it was
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: fond memories with August, it felt like shock and sadness.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, with her, like, I felt like, okay, she's going to be better because like she was just having a hard time being alive.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_03]: And he was so young.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_03]: So that just felt like
- 4:20[SPEAKER_03]: It was hard.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_03]: It was awful.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_03]: We didn't talk about it because there's when you when you share that someone passes away or a pet passes away.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_03]: There's an outpouring of love because of the sprawl we live in.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_03]: Like you can say what you want about the negative sides of social media, but the positive sides are like insane.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_03]: It's like
- 4:37[SPEAKER_03]: It's like the people from your life ten years ago and because people have had pets like they feel it Yeah, when you lose a pet and you see something like you feel that loss with them because you know what it feels like and like in no way where we capable of handling any I'm sorry You like I could it and like been now we're getting to it.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_03]: So anyways, we have one amazing dog
- 5:02[SPEAKER_03]: And we, if you know this about OPC, well, all of our companies do a little donation to a charity built into all of our products and our our profit margins and OPC this year.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_03]: I chose a dog charity down because they get like five hundred animals like a week and like they're trying really hard to be a no kill shelter and I and we can't I like literally look at dogs the brow like look at this one like we're gonna like we're gonna take this on and
- 5:29[SPEAKER_03]: as much as like, oh, that feels this whole, that I'm like, it doesn't, it doesn't feel the whole.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_03]: So like, anyways, national Rainbow Bridge member and stay for from our hearts, all of yours who've lost a pet, it's so hard.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_03]: So anyways,
- 5:42[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, so, another news.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_03]: We are back from our tour as you heard last time, but we are literally leaving him for days to go to the UK, and we opened up all the cart work shop, which means that if you can't take a whole day off with us, it's quite possible there is a spot left.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_03]: in a workshop.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_03]: So we just took the day passes and a lot of people to buy workshops.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_03]: So there might be one or two workshops that you can snag your spot and so go to OPC.me slash UK because we're going to be in S six and leads and I don't know we back teaching in the UK, but I know we're going to be there now and it's going to be so much
- 6:17[SPEAKER_03]: fun.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_03]: There's some great workshops, there's some business ones, there's some Pilates ones, there for people who like us and love us and just want to learn with us, they're really absolutely amazing.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_03]: So thank you to our hosts from the movement base and Chapel Island Templates.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_03]: Then we come back and
- 6:32[SPEAKER_03]: Like two weeks later, we leave for Chicago land.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to be at a balanced by his POT and I'm teaching the Joe's Jim's there.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_03]: Brad's going to have like Brad and I was helping me with the booth and that's it's a bird ridge, but they called Chicago land.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_03]: And I like that.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_03]: And from Chicago land, we're going to go to Cambodia.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_03]: And do you know what?
- 6:51[SPEAKER_03]: We've had people last minute join us.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_03]: So like we said, you could join like two weeks before.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_03]: So closeness retreats.com.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_03]: If you are feeling ambitious and I wanted to get the heck out of town,
- 7:01[SPEAKER_03]: because there's a lot going on and maybe you just want to take a break.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_03]: So, crosenessretreats.com, and then what?
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we're actually working on the lighting of a workshop and some classes in Singapore right now.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_03]: I know.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: Which would be awesome.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see, you know, I would say at this point if it hasn't come together.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: No, we have a problem.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: If you're listening to us now, but right now, we're working on it when we're recording this.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to say, yeah, it happened.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: It definitely happened.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: We got a workshop coming in Singapore.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to happen because hello, I mean, it's not very often Singapore that I have a layover during daylight hours.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_03]: And so we're going to make there's people who want it.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be awesome.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, we've been looking at different
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: then use right now and we're lining it all up so yeah and then after we get back from Singapore we actually are home for about a month which is quite nice too
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: to chill out.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: We some family come into town and then we go on our winter tour for OPC where we're driving another eight thousand miles this year.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: Last year we did eighty two hundred over the winter.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: This year is going to be less miles more stops.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: Less miles more stops.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: But it's going to be awesome.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: We are
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: Don't.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_03]: You know what?
- 8:15[SPEAKER_03]: It's really funny, guys.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_03]: So the team, like, I see the map, I see where we're going and I give some inputs on some places on my galaxy that whatever, but then they don't actually always tell me like all the events we're doing.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_03]: So like this week, all the private events that cause like studios, a hostess can also like hire us for an event just for their team.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_03]: So there's a public class and a public workshop, and then sometimes there's a private workshop.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_03]: And apparently there's a lot more than workshops that I thought on the summer tour.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_03]: So I am interested to see this winter tour.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_03]: I expect lots of gifts and lots of hugs.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_03]: But what will announce the winter tour in October?
- 8:51[SPEAKER_03]: So if you are in Cambodia, but that's you'll hear in all the notes.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you will.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, before we get into Anthony's incredible episode, what is the question of the week?
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this is great.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't actually know how to say this.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's it.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's it.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's it.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's it.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: Manesh.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: Manesh.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: Nada.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: Manesh.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: There you go.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: On Instagram, she asked, hey, Leslie, do you do any Zoom sessions sometimes?
- 9:24[SPEAKER_03]: Sometimes I do.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_03]: That's true.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_03]: Who gets them?
- 9:29[SPEAKER_03]: It's gonna sound like I'm an asshole, but the people who get Zoom sessions with me are people who are in my mentorship program to be completely honest.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_03]: I don't have a lot of hours in a week that I can teach because we run OPC, we run profitable Pilates, you know, and we do have the mentorship program.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_03]: The limited times that I have are for those in that program, and then sometimes OPC members get access to that calendar, but basically as you can hear, no one publicly gets access to those things.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_03]: So as much as I'd love to teach the world on Zoom,
- 10:00[SPEAKER_03]: That the way I can do that is through OPC actually because we have a monthly live class and I can look we can hang out afterwards and I can look at your form.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_03]: I can answer your questions.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_03]: You don't have to come to live class when I look at your form.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_03]: You can submit videos and I can give you feedback.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_03]: So if you're wanting me to give you feedback on some exercises, be no PC member.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_03]: If you're a teacher, you can go through elevate.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_03]: We only have a few spots there where OPC it's obviously.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: open to the world, but yeah, I mean with with elevate if you if you're actually looking for a specific feedback on your practice and you want to really grow netta you should be considering elevate it's for teachers it's a nine month program it's like consider it like going and getting a master's degree somewhere
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's very in depth in in in what it covers it's going to run through everything that Leslie learned from Jay Grimes who study with Joe so you're going to be covering five hundred exercises going to be amazing during that time your practice will significantly grow and you'll also have.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: Leslie will be, you know, watching your practice during those nine months, too.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: So that's like the best way to make that happen.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: Just reach out or go to LeslieLogan.co slash elevate and or you can book a call and super happy to hop on a call and just say what's up, you know?
- 11:16[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I, I, it's like a, it's a great problem to have and I actually used to teach this long.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_03]: I've been teaching online.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_03]: I used to teach on Skype and I used to teach people all of my own Skype.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, Skype.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_03]: Or sometimes Facebook, sometimes Facebook Messenger because Skype wasn't working or whatever.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_03]: Like it was so, but I was like anything that has a video I can teach on it.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, but yeah, I think like we do have some great opportunities to work together in person between the tours and Cambodia.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_03]: And then the online stuff is, you know, you'd, I all know.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's another great one.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: You could come with us to Cambodia, Neda, where you'll be doing five classes with Leslie during the retreat.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously, you know, it's not a large group.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: So you can come there and be in person.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_03]: So you guys send in your questions.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_03]: You can like literally here honest feedback and answers and we love answering them like I just I want I want I want questions about your wedding.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know like give me some good ones go to be a pod.com slash questions to submit them or text us at
- 12:22[SPEAKER_03]: three window nine oh five five five three four.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't yet mean be a pod, but we're getting to it.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's not going to mean be a pod.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: I love that you're wishful thinking here.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's, you know, low, low.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_03]: I see it.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_03]: I love what the parents are.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: Love you.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_03]: Love you.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: Stick around, we'll be right back.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to dig into one of my really dear friends who I've now known for more than a decade.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: And he, he's just inspirational in multiple ways, being a yogi, but also, you know, he's a philosopher too.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: So, cannot wait to dig into this combo that you have with Anthony Benonotti.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: You're really going to enjoy
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't already gone back and listened to that, you should.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, looking forward to stick around.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be right back.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about Mr. Anthony Beninati.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: A professional yoga teacher with over thirty two years of experience before stepping into yoga Anthony served in the Air Force and worked in a competitive
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: power lifter.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if he worked at it, but he was a competitive power lifter, which left him with shoulder and knee injuries.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, you know, he told me when he was younger, he couldn't even touch his toes.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and today he's like, you know, obviously been doing yoga for three decades.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: He founded City Yoga, which was California's first Anasura studio, and he now leads, that's not yoga.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's his website, that's not yoga.com.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: He's actually also done a lot of business stuff and like, because he sold studios and in the taught further people and he's done workshops and holds retreats, all sorts of stuff.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: Anthony's philosophy is to fit yoga to the student, making sure the practice leads to transformation and healing, not to suffering.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: And he teaches students to listen to their bodies every day, meeting themselves where they're at with their openness and compassion.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, I think that is a really great summary of, you know, who he is.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: But I would also say he rides a motorcycle, he drinks beer, he curses, he's fucking cool and hip.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: And that's one of the things that that I connected with him the most about is because I had this pre-conception of what's a yogi and life.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, your first class was like a purtip, like a bit like the typical yoga instructor like this little
- 14:43[SPEAKER_02]: Saspo, okay.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no, no.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: So that was the first teacher that I actually learned from and she was super sweet and nice.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_01]: But yes, the class was literally for like elderly people and I was like teach me the foundations and I liked the class because she let her students ask questions during class.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, I don't understand this pose.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_01]: How does it work?
- 15:05[SPEAKER_03]: And effectively, it was like, in case you haven't showed us Brad, and we give you guys Brad literally interrupts all classes to ask questions.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_03]: Like, all classes, he asked questions.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_03]: He comes on the retreat and he'll just pop into a class and then he's got a question.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, we actually talked about that yesterday and you missed class, but okay.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_03]: So
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: But my very first class was hilarious because I'm like, you know, my nickname in yoga class was Sharkboy or Mr. Bendy.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I've just been, I'm a hypermobile body.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: So naturally flexible.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I get to my first yoga class ever was a group on that I bought.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I showed up for class and I'm in the middle of like thirty or forty people and I don't have a clue what I'm doing and watching this guy up in the front, you know, do all the things and I was like, okay, stick an arm over there.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: We're shouting our leg over this way.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: We're twisting and the lava blah blah.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: And at the end of the class, he came up with me and he's like, wow, man, you have a great practice and I was like, this is my very first class and he was like, what?
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, yeah, and then I left the studio and I walked out to my motorcycle and I could not get onto it.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: Because you to wait to my hurt myself so bad that I literally had to sit there for like an hour just for my back to not be screaming at me.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, well, yoga's not for me.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I just was like, I'm done.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_01]: And then I never, you know, like, I never went back.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_01]: But I had that group on, right?
- 16:29[SPEAKER_01]: And so anyway, somehow I ended up using it and I bought another package somewhere with Anthony because the studio was convenient.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: And, but I only won.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_03]: Your first class was worth Anthony.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: No, no.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_01]: My first class was not with Anthony.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_01]: But like year or two later, I was like, I'm going to give this another try.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: And I did buy like a ten pack at Anthony studio.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I used like, and he didn't have an expiration on it.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: Right, so, and I, but I only used like two classes and then I did know yoga for like years and then there was a point where I was like, I need to go, I need to go back to class and I I called the studio had he had sold it and you know, so I
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: I went, I was like, hey, I had this package with the old studio, you know, and I wasn't even taking with Anthony.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_01]: I had been taking with that lady, that older lady, but I still had packages.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_01]: It just happened to be Anthony's studio.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know that.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: So when I went back, Anthony was the teacher, and that's how I first met him.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, who the hell is this guy?
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: He's awesome.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: This is rad.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then I was like, hooked.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: I was in, this is probably like, twenty, fourteen.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: So I've been dabbling in yoga for like maybe three years, but not really.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_03]: I love how two or three times in two years is dabbling.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: Well, with the older lady whose name I don't remember and I feel bad about that.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: I probably won, you know, I'm about a few ten packs, you know?
- 17:51[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, okay, wasn't clear that there was a multiple ten pack.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: I went a few times.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_03]: Every time I wrote this story it's always like one ten pack and it's like like a couple of times it's not dabbling.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: I went, I went, yeah, I went enough to decide that yoga wasn't gonna hurt me if I knew what I was doing.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, I didn't actually, like, it didn't turn it into a habit or a practice.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_01]: I just went a few times.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, it wasn't until, you know, a year later that I went back to redeem the rest of my package that studio had sold.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't even know it.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, well, they're gonna honor it.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: I already have classes, I'll just go there.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then I happened to pop into class, I was Anthony's.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, that was a long story.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: There's nothing to do with anything.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_03]: I was speaking of Anthony.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let's shift on.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like from your convo with this deep.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_03]: It was deep.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_03]: I knew it would be.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_03]: I know it would be so good.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_03]: But I think for all the teachers no matter what you teach, this is a really great thing.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_03]: Anthony says he believes that the most effective teacher is someone who understands how people get to the practice.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you just found out.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_03]: But like, right, right, but like, I think this goes to, you know, we coach a lot of applies and structures and they're like, I want to work with an advanced person.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_03]: I want all they want to do is lose weight.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_03]: And it's like, right.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_03]: And we don't want to lie to people, but you have to understand what gets people to the practice.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_03]: so that you can't have empathy for them being a beginner because they should be allowed to be a beginner and we can't we don't want them to feel shame for what they think they want in their life because that's a compilation of years of stories and influence good or bad to and in the conversation we talked to there's no such thing as good or bad but like to to someone
- 19:40[SPEAKER_03]: And so how can you really have a lived experience so that you can in whatever you're teaching so that you can come from a really great place and honest place and and be human, you know, like I think a lot of instructors put themselves upon pedestals, quote leaders and and forget that like you are also in practice when you teach something that's a practice, right?
- 20:00[SPEAKER_03]: And so he also said empathy is such an important factor to be a great teacher.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_03]: You have to be able to put yourself in their shoes.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_03]: And this is something like, look, of course, I have days where I get tired and I'm like, well, they just fucking relax and stop trying to be perfect.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I don't understand what the fucking just relax, just be in practice.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_03]: But also, I know what that is like.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_03]: I know why they can't do it.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_03]: I know that they have years of like being for whatever, like somebody told them that it had, maybe the perfection is because they kept the house safe.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_03]: You know, there's so many different reasons why people seek perfection.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_03]: They want certainty.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_03]: They want control.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_03]: You know,
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it could be a response from uncertainty in another area of their life, where they feel like this is where I can have certainty because I know exactly how it's supposed to be.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: And then it becomes this thing.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_03]: When I catch myself, because sometimes I'm like, oh wait, hold on a second.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_03]: We've, like, I've been here.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_03]: So what, what was I going through?
- 21:00[SPEAKER_03]: And what actually got me to, like, let go of that and get back in that empathy because it actually is what helps guide people on the path to being more themselves, to connecting to themselves, to having a personal practice.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_01]: So it was just like, yeah, Anthony was talking about his ego was the thing that brought him to the practice because he was like,
- 21:22[SPEAKER_03]: Which is be the irony of yoga.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I'll tell you it was actually anger that brought me to the practice and I just went to yoga because I that were cute.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_03]: But I was going to yoga already and I was like, oh, I'll go to that class.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_03]: Wait there.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to cute.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: But I was angry that I couldn't do it.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: And that was also ego.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_01]: But like I was angry.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: I was angry outside.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: I was angry at my ex, right?
- 21:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I was angry that I couldn't figure it out.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I was angry that my, I was just angry.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: And then when I, what I knew was that after I had beat the shit out of myself in a yoga class, I felt better.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: And then ironically, you know, and like, you know, talk about controlling, like I wanted every single answer to every, every possible understanding of the movement, you know, and then, and then there was stuff that I was like, couldn't do.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: And it generally, like ironically, I was flexible, but I wasn't flexible enough in my own mind.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I definitely wasn't strong.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I think that anger, like,
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: pushed me through the strength training barriers of where I was like, I need to be able to hold this pose for whatever ten seconds.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, like whatever it was.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_01]: And it was like, I mean, I'm glad I didn't hurt myself to be honest, you know, doring it.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: But it was, you know, it took me a solid six months to enjoy the practice, you know, because I was just frustrated at everything.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think like had you come to it for a different way.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_03]: You might like it would might have been a different thing, but maybe you didn't wouldn't have practiced that hard.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_03]: Like I think I think that's what the point is like what if we allowed our journey to whatever it is?
- 23:07[SPEAKER_03]: Just be that.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_03]: I think a lot of people want to change the past.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_03]: They want it.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_03]: They want it to be a different way that they got into something.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_03]: I remember like how I got into Pilates.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_03]: I thought it was BS and I remember not telling anyone that story for years.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_03]: Like I was so embarrassed.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_03]: that I actually thought that that Pilates was a gimmick, you know, I really was.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, and then also on top of that, because when I became a plies instructor, people most of the teachers were dancers.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_03]: So here I was one of the few in my world, not in the, in the world, but in my world, LA, that was a non-dance or, and I thought I was bullshit.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like, I was just like, I'm just gonna just, I'm just gonna be back.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_03]: I'm in the back and no one's gonna know.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_03]: But then I realized, like, actually, like, how we got to Pilates is probably how a lot of people think about Pilates.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_03]: And what if I actually just like lean into the empathy of that?
- 23:58[SPEAKER_03]: And it might actually allow more people to come to the practice because then they don't feel stupid or silly or weird for thinking it's, you know, not gonna work.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_03]: You know, and it found the more I talked about how it wasn't a dancer, the more teachers were like, I'm not one either.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_03]: And then made them feel good until like,
- 24:14[SPEAKER_03]: What if we all just own the story that we have?
- 24:17[SPEAKER_03]: It might actually make us all have it more community and connection to different people.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, it makes you relatable, you know, makes it as a teacher.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_01]: It makes you relatable when you're willing to, you know, share the things that it's, I think, you know, there's always oversharing can be wrong, but like I think it's hard to know what
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: will be received well.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: And so I feel like there's fear there.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: That's why you know, you're like, man, I mean, I shouldn't share that.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: But then like, when, you know, if and when you do, it's like, oh, you know, like, I'm not alone in this.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: And other people are probably also not sharing.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: And now they feel permission to, yeah, you know, commiserate or connect or, you know, make some feel better about themselves too.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, love it.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, what did you love?
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I loved this idea of good and bad.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he said yoga doesn't actually see things as good and bad.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like you have a good practice or a bad practice or you're a good yogi or a bad yogi.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he said that yoga kind of sees things more in the does it work or is not working.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and he was talking about the specifically
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like, when we were talking about this, it was more talking about habits.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's like, the habit is there, whether it's a quote unquote good habit or a bad habit.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we're taking that and setting that aside.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: Instead, it's a, you know, how is this habit serving me?
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: Is it, is it working for me or is it not working for me, right?
- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: And specifically, you were like, maybe you get frustrated that you sit there and scroll on Instagram all day long.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_01]: But maybe you can see that as a good thing because you actually need a moment to just like not think.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, we also mean we talk about like he said it's some people would say it's bad to drink, but like if it if if that drink made you wrote that drink made you relax and connect with your family like, is it bad?
- 26:13[SPEAKER_03]: And and I think like, is it wrong?
- 26:16[SPEAKER_03]: So I've heard that this before and a couple different things obviously like.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_03]: There are things that cannot be great for you, but the difference is like, is it serving you?
- 26:26[SPEAKER_03]: Is it serving you?
- 26:27[SPEAKER_03]: And it's okay for something to serve you and not serve somebody else.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_01]: Or what is coming from it that could be serving you, right?
- 26:33[SPEAKER_01]: It might not be the thing that is serving you.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like the alcohol itself might not be beneficial, but the quality time that you spent with family one.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's really the alcohol that is worth doing, right?
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, so yeah.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: I still love the idea that like,
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: everything in moderation, including moderation, you know?
- 26:53[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I think the point is, because I think that Renee Brown, she's kind of my head a couple times in this conversation, guilt versus shame as her thing, right?
- 27:02[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I think some people shame themselves.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_03]: I had a drink last night.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_03]: Versus, like, I spent time with my family.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_03]: And I had a drink.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_03]: And I love spending time with my family.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_03]: I don't love that I had the drink, but when I had the drink, it let me forget about the work that I had.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_03]: So I can spend my family.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_03]: So I do need to figure it away to get to forget about works.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_03]: I can spend time with my family.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_03]: But we don't have to have shame around the drink because you know, and I think that's where it's like, we have to
- 27:33[SPEAKER_03]: Be kinder to ourselves.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_03]: I think people just walk around.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's on the internet, right?
- 27:38[SPEAKER_03]: People just shame people all the time.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_03]: That's bad.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_03]: That's wrong.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_03]: You did that wrong.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_03]: Like, no one is going way to go.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_03]: Like, you know, when's the last time you told us to do it in the PC?
- 27:47[SPEAKER_01]: We definitely talked about it.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's all it's about.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to circle this right back around, too.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: your Pilates practice or your yoga practice, because when I first got into yoga, that was how I treated myself.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not good enough.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing it wrong.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not doing it well.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's not good.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not a good yoga yet.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I was judging myself.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: But I was angry.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_01]: I was angry at myself.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_01]: I was angry at the world.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: But I knew that physically, my body, you ever felt so frustrated you just have to go run.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: You felt like that where like running is somehow going to like be the thing.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: And like that was that was like, you know, because you get that endorphins release and all that stuff.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_01]: And that was what I was looking for without really understanding it.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: I just knew that I felt better after class.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and because I was also more relaxed and like my mind wasn't like breaking out all the time, you know, at that point.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_01]: but it still took time for me to look took years for me to stop judging my own practice.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_03]: And like an idea that... But I think going back to like, there's a difference between saying something as bad and to lead to I'm bad and asking yourself, and if we could just catch ourselves now, because this is why I love this conversation, is it serving me?
- 29:12[SPEAKER_03]: If the answer is yes, fuck what people think.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_03]: if it's a yes and tomorrow it's a yes and in the next week it's a yes and the next month it's a no then you make a change sure but you can make a choice but I think some people are using judgment on good or bad
- 29:35[SPEAKER_03]: on things that are serving them and then they're fucking stuck like if you had not gone to yoga because I'm bad it makes me feel like you know so I'm not like yoga would become the thing that's wrong and then like you know what I mean so like is it serving me it's serving me to go because I'm angry and I can be angry and it's serving me and then all of a sudden
- 29:55[SPEAKER_03]: the anger at yoga no longer served you and you let it go.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_03]: So I think like there's a couple different ways to see this anger at me.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_03]: So you had to let it go.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_03]: So I think what if we could all stop said if you and this is something we can catch ourselves doing it here at this household, you'd meet together, but also like our coworkers, your friends like if you go, oh, I know it's bad that I do this.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_03]: Pull that rant.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_03]: Is it serving me that I do this?
- 30:23[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_03]: Is it serving me that I do this?
- 30:25[SPEAKER_03]: And if you can honestly say, yes, then let the fucking guilt go because it's not helping you.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: You said pull that rubber band.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you have a brand on your wrist.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: Snap it.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_03]: Snap it.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like hit the reset button.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and, and it's, you know, that he took it a little bit differently in the conversation because he's, you know, he's talking about all
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: things serve a purpose, even if we look at it and say, that's bad.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, because, you know, he said we wouldn't know love without hate, joy, without pain.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_02]: I can think of a few people that I could still think the world's a better place if they weren't in it.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just going to say we all know.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_02]: But like, but I get that point of perspective, right?
- 31:07[SPEAKER_01]: It allows us to actually understand what we have in our world.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: That is amazing.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, because we can also see, oh, damn, I definitely, that is not amazing over there, you know, you know, that that's not giving, that's not that is not working.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_01]: That would not work for me, right?
- 31:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that would work for me.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, it's, it's, it's, it's, so he said it's a balance, you know, and it's, and each scenario you find yourself in, you can find that balance between, you know, is it working for me or not working for me?
- 31:39[SPEAKER_01]: Or is it the good and the bad, you know, how can it be working for you?
- 31:43[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you know, I love it because like B. J. Fogg, I said, there's no such thing as bad habit.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_03]: Every habit you have is serving some function.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_03]: Now there might be habits you don't like or are no longer serving you, but there are habit, but you cannot say there's a bad habit because it is providing something in your brain that's kicking off a dopamine otherwise your brain wouldn't seek doing it.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: So I always thought I was thought about that, too, with food.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there's something, even if it's like quote, quote, bad habit of like eating all the time or like maybe have like a consistent like I eat late or whatever.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: And you know that it's like not physically helping you.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: There's still something in your head that's like I need that thing.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever that thing is, you know, I need that glass orange juice.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I need the sugar.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_03]: Well, because it could be a brings relief.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_03]: It's a distraction.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_03]: It might calm you down.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_03]: There's so many different things that our habits do.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_03]: So if there's something that you feel no longer serves a purpose in your life, right?
- 32:47[SPEAKER_03]: You've to explore that, but not judge that.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to do a whole series on habits actually.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_03]: So we can contain this conversation on this like it's now an eight episode series.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to do about habits.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_03]: Really.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, Fred has no idea.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_03]: What?
- 33:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_03]: I'm doing more.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_03]: I'm doing a whole episode like whole series on my on pod.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just taking over and not interviewing people for a few weeks and I'm going to tell you how to fucking do a habit.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_03]: And we're all going to talk about unraveling habits and no longer serve you.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_03]: All right, you heard it here first.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_03]: So the thing, the homework from this episode is just start taking notice of things that you know the habits you have, the routines you have that no longer serve you.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_03]: And if we can bring that to the series, which will come out, I think it's going to come out either in December or January.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_03]: Cool.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's a really fun.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_01]: We'll stick around.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be right back.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to dig into those B at action items that you covered with Anthony, which were also fantastic.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, stick around.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be right back.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: Let's dig into those B at action items that you had.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_03]: I have notorious like I'm notorious like yeah, I'm ready and then I just look down and he's like just wants to look at the camera out when he says welcome back.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm sorry everyone.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_03]: Here we are.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_03]: Stay with him.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_03]: What bold?
- 34:05[SPEAKER_03]: You're not going to say it with me.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_03]: You're a bold, executable, entrance deck or targets.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_00]: Action items.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_00]: Can we take the way for your cover with Anthony Beninati?
- 34:14[SPEAKER_03]: Just you know, I always fade out even if you say happy birthday because I can't I don't like how I sound okay.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going first, babe.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_03]: Here we go.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_03]: I'm taking away because I, there's just too many things I love.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_03]: So he said, he states that,
- 34:29[SPEAKER_03]: It's important that we actually focus on three things when you want to do things that you want to do.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_03]: So first of all, to do anything you want to do, you have to actually have the desire to do it.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_03]: If you don't have the desire to do it, you won't put the effort forward.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_03]: Has anyone ever said like, oh, I'm going to learn Spanish and then you don't learn Spanish.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_03]: So you have to have the desire to do it.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_03]: This is where I'm going to talk about this in the Hammond series.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_03]: I love it.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_03]: Knowledge, you have to learn to do it.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_03]: He actually said just doing something without knowing how to do it can cause you harm.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_03]: This is very true.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_03]: You have to actually learn how to do it.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_03]: I'm actually trying to learn how to do taro because I like want to we have a taro episode coming out and I like want to understand how to like do it better and I want a taro is a personal relationship.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_03]: They're asking yourself questions and I want to have I don't want to do it wrong.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_03]: I want to have a really good
- 35:15[SPEAKER_03]: Understanding of it before I start journaling and pulling cards and really doing it for real.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_03]: And then third is action.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_03]: Then you simply have to do it.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_03]: But beyond doing it, just watching us commit to doing over and over and over again to create meaningful change.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_03]: And I love this so much.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_03]: We have to be okay with any beginners.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_03]: We have to be okay for having to be not a journey of learning.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_03]: And then you just keep doing it.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_03]: And it's really amazing how when you do that.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_03]: It's like there's deeper levels of everything that we do.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_03]: And it's just so good.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_03]: I am loving.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_03]: I love this.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_03]: I love this triad.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_03]: Brett.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that idea of desire, knowledge and action is so obvious, but we often will skip.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: one of the steps.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_03]: Sometimes people skip desire.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I'm saying.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_03]: It's terrible.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing it because I have to.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: Or I'm doing it for somebody else, but really you don't fucking want to.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: And so it actually sets you up to fail from the gate, right?
- 36:18[SPEAKER_01]: Because what's going to happen?
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to
- 36:20[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to do it as going to build a frustration or resentment, you know, or like you mentioned with step two, if you skip knowledge, you could hurt yourself.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, the step three, which is actually being consistent with it, you can have the desire to learn, you could even learn how to do it, but then if you don't do it.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_03]: Right, right, because you, because some people won't do things because they're too new at it.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_03]: You know?
- 36:47[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_03]: You're a bad action.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_03]: I am so you're a bad way.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: So he was talking about being careful with language and you mentioned this too, right?
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: How your body actually learns your body responds to the way that you think and the things that you say impact, you know, like what you think is what you're going to say and what you think your body is also going to do.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_03]: Your body's not going to go rogue on you.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_01]: So for example, you were talking about
- 37:17[SPEAKER_01]: you know, oh, I'm never, I never lose weight or I'm never gonna get stronger or, you know, or I was thinking about just this, this just the other day I had somebody come, you know, we had somebody come to our place and we were just taking photos and the person said, oh, no, no, no, no, no, that's my bad side.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_01]: And then shift it to the other side of the photo so they could get it.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, that's
- 37:43[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I mean, of course, we've all heard that and like, it sounds like so Hollywood, but it's also, you know, like, that's a shame.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_03]: Well, also, because you have confirmation bias, you actually always see the thing that you're saying is bad, but your body listens.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_03]: If you say you have a weak arm, your body's not going to go, let me show you how strong I am.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_03]: No, it's not going to happen and you'll treat it that way.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_03]: So I really, I really think language being careful with it is something we could all pay attention to.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then the other side of it, too, is let's say you have the desire and the action, the knowledge, I mean, and you're putting it into action, the way that you put it into action today might be different than the way you put it into action yesterday, right?
- 38:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I think I had especially with my yoga practice, never fully embraced this idea ever.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: So for ten years, I was like,
- 38:41[SPEAKER_01]: I can always go further than I did the day before.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's just the way I always looked at it.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't until I started lifting weights that I truly looked at it.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I just can't today.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever, like, like, if last week I did a hundred fifty pounds, I just feel like whimpy today.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to be able to do it.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I could actually hurt myself.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, right.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_03]: That's why my trainer has me on a D-Lode week.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_03]: because it's important for your central nervous system to like think things are a little easier.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_03]: You can't always be building building building.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_03]: You have to calm it down.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_03]: So it's so true.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_03]: Like the way we approach things has to be different if we're listening to our body.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, so yeah, listening to your body being careful with your language, being willing to being willing to not, you know,
- 39:37[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever, reach the goal or hit these to be the epitome of the pose or, you know, in my case, it was often handstand, you know, when it was yoga or for lifters, it's like, I got to hit my max.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_01]: Last max was, you know, this, so I got to hit, I got to at least hit that and then more, right, like being willing to be like, okay, maybe right now it's okay if it's different.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_03]: You know, yeah, it's interesting how like some of those things just you learn with age.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_01]: But also age and also like death.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_01]: I never felt like I was going to hurt myself in yoga.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_01]: I never felt like I could crush my skull.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you're benching and you have too much weight, your body could step and fail and you could have hundred and fifty pounds crashing on your body.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like that was that was the moment where I was like, oh, okay.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_03]: So there it is, Anthony.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_03]: We should have just felt like, how does he spread?
- 40:27[SPEAKER_03]: He could have died.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_03]: Get a fucking broken his neck.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, now we know.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I... But also, that's translated.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like, it took me an opportunity to learn.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, now when I'm going back into my yoga practice, it doesn't have to be, like, to the empathy degree every single time.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I just show up.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_03]: That's why I'm at.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_03]: I'm really enjoying just showing up.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_03]: So glad I get to do that.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, I'm here today.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: I also feel a lot stronger, too, and less flexible, and I acknowledge that.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_03]: You're no longer a shark, boy.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't think so.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_01]: You're still flexible, but I'm not like I was, like before I could.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_03]: You have mobility.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I could put my foot behind my neck.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_03]: I know, but you have, but we need strength as we get older.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_03]: It's really fucking hard to put it on.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_03]: Anyways, I just, this whole episode has so many gems.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_03]: I really enjoyed like reliving it.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's one that's worth going back to when I think it's got
- 41:26[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to take away you might listen to differently each time you hear it.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_03]: So, listen to it again.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_03]: And I must look at it.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm Brad Crowell.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks for listening.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_03]: I want to hear reviews.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_03]: I want to hear takeaways.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_03]: I want your fucking questions.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_03]: Then to be a product questions.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_03]: Also your wins.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_03]: I want your wins.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_03]: I want a lot.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_01]: I want a lot.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_01]: We want it all.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_03]: I can't I'm not going to say that song for you.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_03]: Until next time, be it till you see it.
