- 0:34Speaker0: But I know he's killing it on the stage right now.

- 0:53Speaker0: this is your first time man I hope you all enjoy the show we're about to get

- 1:00Speaker0: into the show the topics and stuff like that Brady how was there how are you doing bro it's.
- 1:04Speaker1: Been great man I'm working on feature film script right now so i've been
- 1:08Speaker1: working on that a lot yeah and then also looking at festivals to submit my films
- 1:13Speaker1: to so that's been like a big thing for me i just got into a festival so bright
- 1:19Speaker1: ideas film festival which is in martinez
- 1:23Speaker0: Oh yeah yeah yeah.
- 1:24Speaker1: And that's for raven
- 1:25Speaker0: Motel for raven motel yeah and that was one that was also playing at the at kirst one.
- 1:31Speaker1: For for Best Editing, and I won for Best Actor.
- 1:36Speaker1: So shout out to Dania Denise for Best Editing and Rainn Williamson for Best Naked.
- 1:43Speaker0: Nice, nice, nice. Yeah, my boy, you're going to be a little bit of your children and relax. I have.
- 1:47Speaker0: but i have rehearsals for this not necessarily a clay but i'm working with tony
- 1:52Speaker0: roberts right now he's doing like um like a one-man show,
- 1:57Speaker0: and then i'm kind of like he has like a group of like comedians to kind of like act out like,
- 2:03Speaker0: the the joe sandy sang or whatever stuff like that so we've been working after
- 2:07Speaker0: like maybe like a month now so nice like yeah so we have rehearsal last week
- 2:12Speaker0: kind of go over like the the technicalities of it and stuff like that,
- 2:16Speaker0: And then after that, I just went to the punchline, did some open mic and stuff, all like that.
- 2:20Speaker0: So, yeah, I just try to keep it chill to do the most unlaborish stuff I can
- 2:24Speaker0: do for my every day weekend.
- 2:25Speaker0: Yeah. I try to be as lazy as possible. Yeah.
- 2:28Speaker1: I hear you.
- 2:29Speaker0: For real, for real. Yeah, man, but let's dive into a little bit about,
- 2:33Speaker0: you were talking about what the Raven Motel kind of getting submitted to Film Festival and stuff.
- 2:37Speaker0: You don't have to go into the details about, you know, submitting to the Film
- 2:42Speaker0: Festival or what started a decision beside behind you You kind of say you're
- 2:46Speaker0: going to go to the film festival.
- 2:47Speaker1: Yeah, the biggest thing, buddy, is really before you even start the movie,
- 2:52Speaker1: we should be thinking about this. Like, what's our angle, right?
- 2:56Speaker1: And so for me, I think thinking about festivals and, you know,
- 3:03Speaker1: they're doing the work in terms of setting up the venue and all of these things.
- 3:07Speaker1: And for independent filmmakers, our options are submit it to festivals,
- 3:13Speaker1: put it up on YouTube and see how it goes, which eventually I think is a good idea.
- 3:18Speaker1: But you kind of have to keep that under wraps, right? You can't publish that
- 3:23Speaker1: film yet because a lot of festivals don't want you to do that.
- 3:28Speaker1: And so I think as filmmakers, we have to really think about strategy.
- 3:32Speaker1: And for me, you know, I've gotten into festivals here in Sacramento,
- 3:37Speaker1: but starting to think outside of Sacramento, getting into the Bay Area,
- 3:42Speaker1: getting to LA, getting outside of California and what your film,
- 3:48Speaker1: whether it's a horror or comedy,
- 3:51Speaker1: you know you have to look at certain festivals and how what films they're looking
- 3:56Speaker1: at you know wanting to have in their you know yeah their list
- 4:03Speaker0: So what are some of the things that you hope that you're kind of hoping to take
- 4:05Speaker0: away from i say like being at this film festival you know alan martinez compared
- 4:10Speaker0: to like because i said it's your first time being outside of sacramento.
- 4:14Speaker1: It on yeah i think it's to network right like your goal should be to have people
- 4:20Speaker1: see the film they obviously like the film so in my case they saw my film and you know reached out
- 4:28Speaker1: and so that's always a good sign right so you look at their festival and you
- 4:34Speaker1: say hey is this a good fit is this something that's going to help my film because
- 4:39Speaker1: every film festival that you submit to Costs
- 4:43Speaker1: And so sometimes they give you discounts And a lot of times they don't
- 4:47Speaker1: So I think you have to be Careful in what Film festivals you want And for me
- 4:54Speaker1: I really wanted to You know get to the Bay Area because
- 5:00Speaker1: You know that's Not far from where we're at So I think that seemed like The
- 5:05Speaker1: next best step for me personally
- 5:08Speaker0: Yeah Okay cool so why do are you hoping to just like you just try to network
- 5:14Speaker0: man you try to because i'm not but i'm doing like my whole process when i was
- 5:18Speaker0: submitting for like bell festival was like we're almost 30 i,
- 5:21Speaker0: like how you say kind of came in with like a a plan or whatever like like what
- 5:27Speaker0: the what the end date was so,
- 5:29Speaker0: so when i was doing almost 30 we was just mostly trying to and well i was trying
- 5:33Speaker0: to shit whatever the words is possible you know trying to submit you don't say
- 5:36Speaker0: that that's the like that, you know, trying to win as many awards as possible.
- 5:41Speaker0: I wasn't really focused too much on, like, actually getting out to the film
- 5:45Speaker0: festivals. I mean, maybe that process that I would, like, like,
- 5:49Speaker0: If we was to talk about like this next film festival cycle that I have to go
- 5:53Speaker0: through or whatever stuff like
- 5:55Speaker0: that, maybe that will be the main focus of actually getting out there.
- 5:58Speaker0: I was more so just trying to look for, you know, the awards and the recognition
- 6:02Speaker0: because I was mostly trying to get it off the streaming platforms anyways.
- 6:06Speaker1: Do you think that helps with getting on streaming platforms that you've won awards for your film?
- 6:12Speaker0: What? I think so. I think so.
- 6:17Speaker0: We'll see. I mean, it hasn't hurt, you know what I'm saying?
- 6:22Speaker0: It hasn't hurt it or anything like that. So I wouldn't necessarily know what
- 6:25Speaker0: it would look like without the awards. So I mean, I'm assuming it helped.
- 6:29Speaker1: Well, I think here's a festival here locally. It's really cool,
- 6:33Speaker1: especially with what he just did with the 30-day film challenge that we were
- 6:37Speaker1: talking about on our last episode.
- 6:39Speaker1: yeah and what's cool about that was was a certain amount of films that won for each
- 6:47Speaker0: Block yeah.
- 6:48Speaker1: Got into his festival so yeah that was really cool
- 6:53Speaker0: Oh yeah i also wanted to shout out to cordy because i don't think i said it
- 6:56Speaker0: last time on the last episode but yeah shout out to cordy because i was i like
- 6:59Speaker0: i didn't direct the film but i was in a film at the film festival so shout out
- 7:03Speaker0: to cordy for letting me after their film forever city hashtag,
- 7:06Speaker0: forever single so yeah i should trying to get that off of it and shit.
- 7:10Speaker0: But let's keep on the subject of, like, outside of just us and stuff,
- 7:14Speaker0: all like that, because boss office season just wrapped up, you know,
- 7:17Speaker0: so everybody knows, well,
- 7:19Speaker0: Not everybody, but now that the Balsami season is wrapped up,
- 7:23Speaker0: we kind of lean more towards the festival season and gearing up towards awards season.
- 7:30Speaker0: What do you feel like the overall aspect is looking like? For somebody like
- 7:33Speaker0: you, the non-union realm, trying to get that exposure and stuff like that.
- 7:39Speaker0: What are some of the things that you follow and you study with these bigger
- 7:44Speaker0: film festivals going on?
- 7:46Speaker1: Well, I think a big thing is, you know, getting on like imdb pro and following
- 7:52Speaker1: their news you know and just
- 7:55Speaker1: staying up to current with what's going on in the industry is only going to
- 7:59Speaker1: help you know what's going on
- 8:02Speaker1: you know and so i think
- 8:05Speaker1: you know certain festivals that you know they have their their niches like depending
- 8:12Speaker1: upon like what you know whether it's horror or whatever so i think
- 8:17Speaker1: it's like you really have to do your research on the festivals and i don't know
- 8:22Speaker1: if people know but you submit your films on film freeway and that's kind of
- 8:26Speaker1: how you start that process you know
- 8:29Speaker1: and so you have there's a lot of you know going on and filling out like about
- 8:34Speaker1: your film like having the director's statement all that stuff so you have to
- 8:39Speaker1: have all of your things organized
- 8:44Speaker0: With all this stuff that's going on like streaming and going directly to streaming
- 8:47Speaker0: there's a whole lot of hassles sometimes like like the other film that's a feature
- 8:51Speaker0: film maybe you know they wanted to be the premiere there you know what i'm saying
- 8:55Speaker0: do you feel that those will still,
- 8:58Speaker0: just still maintain that sort of importance or that mystique of you know we
- 9:01Speaker0: have to premiere your family when it's there's so much access to having just
- 9:04Speaker0: putting your film up on streaming.
- 9:06Speaker1: Yeah i think for me the hard part about festivals is some actually require you
- 9:13Speaker1: to have a premiere so like if you're in LA they require you to have your film premiere
- 9:19Speaker1: in LA like you can't have shown it anywhere else and so I think that that kind
- 9:23Speaker1: of limits you because if you're submitting to a lot of festivals you know
- 9:29Speaker1: you might not your strategy may not come to whatever you're looking towards
- 9:35Speaker1: getting so you have to have alternate plans you know and i do think
- 9:40Speaker1: you know streaming is obviously the way it go because from a business standpoint
- 9:45Speaker1: how are you going to get your money back
- 9:48Speaker1: you're not going to get it from the festival now you might meet an investor
- 9:52Speaker1: those are things that can happen but you know
- 9:56Speaker1: realistically i think the biggest thing is networking and if someone likes your
- 10:02Speaker1: film too like if they really like it and they see like hey this might be potentially a feature
- 10:10Speaker1: and do you have that feature script ready to go you know what i mean so that's
- 10:15Speaker1: that's kind of the big thing is like
- 10:17Speaker1: what what your goal is we saw it with obsession we've seen it with
- 10:23Speaker1: Smile as well like they had a short film and that blew up so i think
- 10:29Speaker1: from that aspect you could just skip the festival route all together and save
- 10:34Speaker1: your money that that's another option for you
- 10:39Speaker0: True true true fast fast fast fast i speak with all these hot topics hot subjects you know what.
- 10:49Speaker0: Going on in Hollywood, you know, things that might have interested us to see
- 10:53Speaker0: whether this is a yeah buddy or nobody type of situation.
- 10:56Speaker0: So let's say there's not too many things going on right now.
- 10:59Speaker0: It's kind of the slow, slow season right now, but a few, a few interesting tidbits,
- 11:04Speaker0: I guess you could say some things of inspiration for, you know,
- 11:06Speaker0: independent actors, filmmakers, and things of that nature.
- 11:10Speaker0: AMC Theaters, shout out to AMC Theaters, they just launched their own film distribution
- 11:17Speaker0: label to help independent filmmakers get into get their films played into the amc theaters,
- 11:24Speaker0: which is pretty cool i was reading a little bit about it kind of just studying
- 11:28Speaker0: like the uh the process of of submitting to the film and they basically kind
- 11:33Speaker0: of want to lay it out like it's a legit like business play you know i say this is a
- 11:36Speaker0: great opportunity wonderful opportunity for filmmakers but it's also a great
- 11:40Speaker0: opportunity for you to really understand like how serious to the business side
- 11:44Speaker0: is of things to where like it's more just,
- 11:47Speaker0: more than just like the artistic side of things you know putting together like
- 11:50Speaker0: a really different like this is professionally done is this you know this is
- 11:52Speaker0: not going to get sued you know what i'm saying oh no you don't say all all all
- 11:57Speaker0: those little nuances that what it takes to get your film into a theater.
- 12:02Speaker0: Like the difference like you know if you say yeah we're going to you know license
- 12:05Speaker0: your film or whatever that process is to put it in our screens and you know,
- 12:10Speaker0: it's definitely definitely a good,
- 12:13Speaker0: thing just to check out to see like oh man this this this really what i need
- 12:17Speaker0: to get my film in theaters outside the aspect of i just need to make a really good movie.
- 12:23Speaker1: Right and you know we're talking about like streaming versus getting your movie
- 12:28Speaker1: back in the theater like getting people to come want to watch
- 12:32Speaker1: movies in the theater i think would be the goal right like because at a certain point you know
- 12:39Speaker1: a lot of people would like to go back to movies again
- 12:43Speaker0: But people are people are we just have the biggest um,
- 12:46Speaker0: i just read the article right now this was the the biggest summer box office like on record,
- 12:51Speaker0: so people are going back to the movies i think that was a lot of things i mean,
- 12:56Speaker0: economy sucks and all that type of stuff but i don't really blame that on the
- 12:59Speaker0: movies i think like that more so just on the economy i think there's still always
- 13:03Speaker0: going to be a drive for people to go to the movies but with the amc thing,
- 13:09Speaker0: and you know giving an avenue for independent filmmakers,
- 13:15Speaker0: that's really especially like in times like this where like the box office is
- 13:18Speaker0: like there's not that really movies playing instead like starman's making a
- 13:21Speaker0: number move six in center row odyssey's number two movie
- 13:25Speaker0: all these houses where there's not that much variety this is like the perfect
- 13:28Speaker0: time this is dope where it like see something like that.
- 13:31Speaker1: Yeah i think it's awesome it opens up the door for more opportunities and i
- 13:35Speaker1: was reading it's like based in
- 13:37Speaker0: Kansas and.
- 13:38Speaker1: I want to say and So I think that's pretty cool that they're actually opening up.
- 13:46Speaker1: It sounds like it might help independent filmmakers through what I was reading.
- 13:50Speaker0: Yeah, that's the goal for it to help out independent filmmakers.
- 13:53Speaker0: So for me, this is definitely a no-brainer, man. This is definitely a buddy
- 13:57Speaker0: situation. This is definitely something that I don't get behind. Most definitely, man.
- 14:02Speaker0: Most definitely. And then that's a buddy situation we got going on.
- 14:07Speaker0: We discussed a lot last time. not last time, but last season about what it takes
- 14:13Speaker0: to get like, you know, an Oscar campaign and just to get nominated,
- 14:16Speaker0: not even one, but just to get nominated.
- 14:18Speaker0: And one of the early, early,
- 14:22Speaker0: nominee favorites that people was talking about was indiana for red from obsession
- 14:26Speaker0: like i hope she deserves it or whatever well uh they had just announced that
- 14:29Speaker0: the team behind obsession is going to do a full-on like academy awards push
- 14:34Speaker0: not just for any but for all of you know,
- 14:37Speaker0: like for you know every category that you get nominated for they're going to do an award seasons push,
- 14:43Speaker0: for that but indie is the main you know person that they're talking about and
- 14:46Speaker0: stuff like that so is this a situation you see her kind of being do you see
- 14:50Speaker0: her being nominated or Not necessarily do you see her being on me,
- 14:52Speaker0: but do you want to see her being on me?
- 14:55Speaker1: I mean, I think it would be good for film, you know, in general,
- 14:59Speaker1: because I do think she gave a stellar performance, you know, is super creepy.
- 15:03Speaker1: You know, kind of like Amy Madigan, you know, in Weapons, you know,
- 15:08Speaker1: was a surprise this last past Oscar season when we were talking about that.
- 15:13Speaker1: And so I do think that her performance was stellar.
- 15:17Speaker1: and so I'm glad to hear that they're making a push for that because their film
- 15:23Speaker1: was incredible and I think we were talking about
- 15:29Speaker1: in last season is just like you put all this effort into your films you know
- 15:34Speaker1: and if you're having major box office success like sinners like you know you
- 15:39Speaker1: should probably be considered for oscars i would say
- 15:43Speaker0: Yeah and not necessarily because it's all about you know whether they choose
- 15:47Speaker0: to campaign for it and stuff like that but when we talk about for the aspect
- 15:50Speaker0: of campaigning for doing like the movie cost less than a million dollars to
- 15:54Speaker0: make it made over 200 million dollars It's just the best of me.
- 15:57Speaker0: So they got a lot of money to play with as far as how far they really want to
- 16:01Speaker0: push, like, their campaign and stuff like that. There's a whole lot of money
- 16:07Speaker0: to be put behind that and stuff like that.
- 16:09Speaker0: Yeah, you know, it's not like a situation with, like, you know,
- 16:13Speaker0: maybe like Phil lost money.
- 16:16Speaker0: But, you know, the main goal was for it to be an Oscar anyways.
- 16:19Speaker0: They're like, OK, we understand it. But we don't know how it works.
- 16:22Speaker0: But let's just say they have money stashed behind them.
- 16:25Speaker0: so we know even if we lose money at the box office we have money set aside for
- 16:28Speaker0: the campaign because that's what we're aiming for anyways
- 16:32Speaker0: with them they're probably a little like yeah we're about to be everywhere and
- 16:36Speaker0: it's about to be everywhere too so it's going to be a real good book.
- 16:40Speaker1: And I mean it could also be a best picture nomination as
- 16:44Speaker0: Well you think so?
- 16:46Speaker1: I think so yeah I think you know horror is making a resurgence you've seen it
- 16:53Speaker1: every year It's not a genre that's going away People want to see it
- 16:58Speaker1: it's horror fans i know i
- 17:01Speaker0: Yeah horror has been a digger and then the the back rooms really that that during the day just,
- 17:07Speaker0: did a seat i signed off for a sequel for that so they're gonna have a second
- 17:10Speaker0: backwards movie coming out and then underrated movie not trying to mix all shameless
- 17:15Speaker0: you know say but um movie buddy if nobody's seen the movie buddy yet i would
- 17:19Speaker0: watch it that buddy i love,
- 17:22Speaker0: the other day man did you see it i saw i saw it the other day i'm almost fucking
- 17:25Speaker0: crazy it's like no i have seen but he's like it's like if you take barney and
- 17:30Speaker0: you just say you're like oh like a horror movie type of the type of situation where like,
- 17:35Speaker0: it it's trippy because like from an actor standpoint because it's like like
- 17:40Speaker0: you're like buddy like you're watching the tv show and stuff like that you're
- 17:43Speaker0: thinking like okay well this is a tv show but the tv show is really like but
- 17:47Speaker0: he's like the mission is alternative dimension and stuff like that,
- 17:53Speaker0: And so when people start dying, everybody starts killing people or whatever,
- 18:01Speaker0: it's trippy because whenever in TV and movies and stuff like that,
- 18:05Speaker0: if an actor leaves the show or whatever for some reason, they always replace it.
- 18:08Speaker0: You see that all the time in the kid shows. The kid left the show,
- 18:11Speaker0: there'd just be another random ass kid there or whatever. So whenever he would
- 18:15Speaker0: kill somebody off of the show, that person would just be replaced with another actor.
- 18:19Speaker0: So that just made me laugh just because from the standpoint of just being an
- 18:22Speaker0: actor, I'm like, man, I'm not like that scary.
- 18:26Speaker1: Yeah.
- 18:27Speaker0: But no, that was just the underwritten one and stuff like that.
- 18:29Speaker0: That's just a little shameless plug and stuff like that, but definitely,
- 18:32Speaker0: do I think she will be nominated?
- 18:35Speaker0: I think she will. I think she will. I'm optimistic about it.
- 18:38Speaker0: Hope for, you know, the 80 filmmakers and stuff all like that,
- 18:41Speaker0: but just shout out to horror movies all around and stuff like that.
- 18:46Speaker0: And then before we get into our next segment right now, we got to do our whole
- 18:49Speaker0: little shameless plug right here because i said it is fall season and you know
- 18:54Speaker0: what that means that means it is sweater weather
- 18:56Speaker0: and uh you go to the yeah buddy shop right now we have all of our sweaters we
- 19:01Speaker0: got varsity jackets we got hoodies we still got the tees as well and stuff all
- 19:06Speaker0: like that but it is sweater weather so y'all stay warm go to the yeah buddy shop
- 19:10Speaker0: at yeah buddy ent.com slash shop,
- 19:14Speaker0: to get all of your shoot get off get all we got bees as well bees bees hoodies
- 19:18Speaker0: varsity jackets all that stuff and more and more drops coming on the way so
- 19:23Speaker0: go on ahead and check that out at yeah buddy ent.com,
- 19:27Speaker0: and then right now we're going to get into our next segment of the show because
- 19:31Speaker0: apparently nowadays podcast you gotta have a game so we had to have a game as
- 19:36Speaker0: well and stuff like that we actually did it before.
- 19:39Speaker0: Where it was called the mount rush war dead but now we added a little spin to
- 19:43Speaker0: it where we don't pick our four
- 19:45Speaker0: but it almost gets chosen for us and stuff all like that so we're just gonna
- 19:49Speaker0: go out and play with all this the key four cup for mount rushmore so we're gonna
- 19:54Speaker0: get into right now where me
- 19:55Speaker0: and brandy we all selected our own categories and we're just gonna see what
- 20:00Speaker0: each other's mount brushboards are stuff like that so we'll get into the game
- 20:03Speaker0: right now i'll go ahead and get it started off right now,
- 20:07Speaker0: and we got the little cards and all that boom boom for sure,
- 20:12Speaker0: this right more ncu movies okay but no avengers okay okay sure so first one
- 20:20Speaker0: up we got the first iron man movie.
- 20:25Speaker1: I'm gonna cut
- 20:26Speaker0: You're gonna cut iron man yeah i'm gonna start it at all yeah i'll not.
- 20:31Speaker1: Cut it all right because i gotta keep
- 20:32Speaker0: Four yeah all right all right second one up is black panther the first one.
- 20:40Speaker1: Oh, man. I'm going to cut it.
- 20:43Speaker0: God damn. Yeah. This is fun.
- 20:47Speaker1: Sorry. I'm going to cut. I'm so sorry. Sorry. Yeah.
- 20:51Speaker0: Next one up, we got Ant-Man, Quantumania. That's the third one. Oh, man.
