- 0:01Hello, welcome to Heath Hopper. Something's off of me.
- 0:03Just Joey T, it is Thanksgiving that this podcast episode is
- 0:09going up on. So if you're listening on
- 0:11Thanksgiving for any reason, happy Thanksgiving.
- 0:14I am not recording this on Thanksgiving.
- 0:17Whenever you watch YouTube videos, especially or anything
- 0:22that's in a recorded format and as a viewer you probably don't
- 0:26think about this very much. But when I used to do a lot more
- 0:30YouTube videos on the regular, like every single week whenever
- 0:35possible, I would basically have a recording day.
- 0:39So let's say I wanted to do some cruise advice videos.
- 0:42So I would write an outline for maybe 3 videos and then I would
- 0:48try to film all the videos on the same day in one sitting.
- 0:52But it's just so much more efficient that way.
- 0:54They are not all going to go up on the same day on YouTube, but
- 0:57maybe one video goes up per week, so just one day's work
- 1:01then I basically have three weeks worth of content, if you
- 1:05will. So it's pretty popular in the
- 1:08YouTube world where it's not like TikTok, where you can kind
- 1:13of sort of film TikTok videos on a whim.
- 1:16There are obviously some TikTok videos nowadays that it might be
- 1:2015 seconds, but you know, it probably takes quite a bit of
- 1:23planning and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:24But especially with the YouTube videos and the longer, more
- 1:29production intensive the videos are.
- 1:31I mean, my YouTube videos are not super high production
- 1:34quality, but in terms of the content, I have to sit down and
- 1:40at least write an outline just to make sure that when I'm
- 1:43recording as if you heard any episode this podcast, you know,
- 1:47I just talked on and on and on and it's so easy for me to go
- 1:50off on tangent. But if it's YouTube video where
- 1:54OK, this is the topic of the video, this is what the
- 1:56thumbnail and the title of the video is advertising.
- 1:59I need to make sure I stay on that topic because that's why
- 2:02people click on that video. I need to have an outline so
- 2:05that I don't get too far a straight and I hit all the
- 2:08points and all the advice that I want to deliver.
- 2:12Yeah, so I sit down and write an outline, but I will film
- 2:16multiple of those videos in the same day in the same sitting
- 2:19because I need to set up the lighting, the camera, the mics,
- 2:23all that kind of stuff. I will change my clothes, I'll
- 2:26change my T-shirt for the different videos that I'm
- 2:30filming on the same day to make it look a little bit like I
- 2:33filmed them on different days. It might sound like a super
- 2:37simple thing, but it's, you know, when you do YouTube all
- 2:41the time, you're making content all the time.
- 2:42That type of like sit down content, these little things
- 2:45really matter. If you're wearing the exact same
- 2:47T-shirt and it's in your videos over like a one month period,
- 2:51it's going to look weird. Like why you wearing the same
- 2:54shirt for like a whole month. So little things like that.
- 2:58So this is a very roundabout way to tell you this podcast is
- 3:02going up on Thanksgiving. This this podcast always goes up
- 3:05on Thursdays. However, it is not Thursday.
- 3:08It's not Thanksgiving Day that I'm recording this.
- 3:10This is being recorded like the weekend before Thanksgiving, so
- 3:14there you go if you didn't catch it.
- 3:17The last two episodes of this podcast I recorded with my good
- 3:21friend David from Down Under, and a few of you have written
- 3:26back for comments that you guys really like are banter and a
- 3:29chemistry, which is awesome. Like, we're really good friends
- 3:31in person, so this podcast does not have an outline.
- 3:36There might be like a few bullet points here and there of like
- 3:40just topics where we wanted to talk about it.
- 3:44But the last two episodes that I did with David, we talked for
- 3:48just over an hour and I split into two parts.
- 3:51Go check that out. It's a lot of fun to talk to
- 3:53him. And yeah, that was I didn't
- 3:56really need an outline or just have topic ideas.
- 3:59I I like a few topic ideas that I can pull out of the back of my
- 4:02hand if I need it to like have something to talk about.
- 4:07But usually me and David we just very organically just like you
- 4:11give your you know give your good friends.
- 4:13If you hang up your friends naturally, organically you're
- 4:16just gonna have topics about whatever.
- 4:18Right now you go to dinner with friends, close friends and you
- 4:22know like you would be talking for like an hour and a half two
- 4:25hours. So that's kind of sort of what
- 4:27happened. So I love recording with David,
- 4:30but anyways, it's been a weird start to the fall weather here
- 4:39in Los Angeles. It's very easy to just think Los
- 4:42Angeles just sunny all the time and it's been really warm
- 4:46lately. Today it was like in the high
- 4:4970s, which is unseasonably warm for whatever reason, but I'm
- 4:54enjoying it. It's just gone to the point
- 4:56where I don't need to run the AC or the heat.
- 5:01So at night I sleep really warm and I usually throughout the
- 5:07summer, even if I don't need the AC during the day because you
- 5:10know, like I can open a window, turn a fan or whatever.
- 5:13At night though, that's where I tend to overheat when I'm
- 5:15sleeping. So I'll run the AC overnight.
- 5:19It's just gone to that point where it it's cool enough to
- 5:22sleep at night without fans or AC or anything.
- 5:26But during the day, I don't need to turn the heat on.
- 5:29So this is where I'm maximizing my savings.
- 5:33It's for for those of you that have to pay your own electricity
- 5:38bill and it really matters whether how high or low you turn
- 5:42down the thermostat up or down. But yeah, I don't really like
- 5:49wearing sweaters and all that kind of stuff.
- 5:53One of the reasons I moved to LA is that I don't need to dress up
- 5:56in lots of clothes. I have seen that there are
- 5:58selfies of myself where when I lived in San Francisco for
- 6:03example, I had to put on this like thick jacket just to go
- 6:07aside. And I I actually saw a few
- 6:10photos, selfies that I took on myself wearing these big thick
- 6:14jackets and basically like taking a selfie of myself to
- 6:18remind myself how much I dislike wearing winter clothing.
- 6:22So I don't like wearing sweaters.
- 6:24I don't like wearing long sleeve stuff.
- 6:26I don't like wearing thick jackets.
- 6:29It's one of the reasons I live in Los Angeles.
- 6:33The only thing I like about cold weather is driving in snow.
- 6:43That's that sounds like super, super weird because most people
- 6:47don't like driving that much. But like, I love cars and I like
- 6:49driving. And so most people driving in
- 6:52snow is just hell. Like you're just trying to get
- 6:55from A to B and driving in snow, it's completely counter to that,
- 6:59you know, higher risk of accidents and sliding off the
- 7:02road and that kind of stuff. Had some close calls driving in
- 7:06the snow from like years and years back when I lived in
- 7:10Vancouver. And my family doesn't snow that
- 7:12much in the Pacific Northwest, like once in a while.
- 7:14And that's the worst. When you live somewhere, you get
- 7:16snow sometimes, but not consistently year after year,
- 7:21because people don't know what to do with the snow.
- 7:24It's like in Los Angeles or like Socal.
- 7:26It rains once in a while, but not most of the time.
- 7:29It doesn't rain enough for people to know what to do with
- 7:32the precipitation, the rain or the snow.
- 7:35But it does hit often enough that when it does happen, like
- 7:38people just it's like they forget how to drive.
- 7:41But I kind of like driving in the snow because I like driving.
- 7:45But if you get to like an empty park or not with some snow, you
- 7:48can do some really, really fun stuff.
- 7:51Driving in traffic doesn't matter the weather, it's it's
- 7:53always always horrible. But yeah, it's kind of nice.
- 7:56It's that nice temperature where like at night it cools down so
- 8:00you can have like a really good night's sleep without having to
- 8:03run the AC and all that stuff. But during the day, it's like
- 8:06really, really nice to like just it's still, it's still sunny,
- 8:09but it's not hot. So we're kind of in that, like,
- 8:12I don't know, Goldilocks kind of weather in LA right now where
- 8:16it's cool at night but not cold, and it's sunny and pleasantly
- 8:20warm during the day but not hot. So I'm really enjoying it.
- 8:24I think last year I didn't end up using the heat at all.
- 8:28Like, I just never turned the heat on and I just wore like a
- 8:32hoodie in the house and like, it just, like, kept the windows
- 8:35closed. And yeah, the income is not very
- 8:39high right now. So I am definitely, you know, I
- 8:43just have to pinch the pennies, you know, like my mom, Tommy, we
- 8:45got to turn down that thermostat during the winter.
- 8:48The funny thing about that, I'm getting more into listening to
- 8:51podcasts now. So obviously I'm recording when
- 8:53you all listen to it. But I've been listening to a few
- 8:58different podcasts and I tell you guys the ones I'm listening
- 9:01to so that you guys can kind of, I mean, yeah, we'll do that.
- 9:05But walking to and from the gym every day I'm listening to a
- 9:09podcast. And sometimes even when I start
- 9:12my workout, I'm still listening to the podcast.
- 9:14You just switch over to music, something like more upbeat.
- 9:18Because that's usually, it's actually research out there that
- 9:20shows that listen to like, upbeat music improves your
- 9:24performance when you're like at the gym.
- 9:28So I'll put on something upbeat usually.
- 9:30But sometimes you're like kind of sort of getting into the
- 9:32podcast after like your 15th 20 minute walk to the gym or
- 9:34wherever. So like, I kind of sometimes
- 9:36just keep listening into like the start of my gym routine.
- 9:39But one podcast that I like listening to is called This
- 9:45Might Get Weird and it's hosted by two women.
- 9:50It's Grace Helbig and Mamrie Hart.
- 9:54So Grace and Memory. I know them because I don't know
- 9:58them, know them in person, but I knew of them from this is like
- 10:0412 or 13 years ago from their YouTube channel.
- 10:09So Grace used to do this YouTube show called Daily Grace for like
- 10:15this, like YouTube content kind of company before she went and
- 10:19kind of did her own videos on YouTube.
- 10:21And she used to do like comedy videos every single day of the
- 10:25week. So it was called Daily Grace and
- 10:28that was one of the very first Youtubers I follow like 12 or 14
- 10:33years ago when she was doing that.
- 10:35So like, yeah, I used to watch those like all the time.
- 10:38I used to watch them on repeat. And Mamie Hart, she used to do a
- 10:44her own YouTube channel and it was called You Deserve a Drink.
- 10:47And she would mix up different drinks for like just random
- 10:52different occasions or for different people or celebrities
- 10:55or whatever. And they're like really good
- 10:58friends in person and you know, faster.
- 11:00However many years they now do a podcast.
- 11:03I've been doing it for I think several years now, maybe like
- 11:07four or five years now that they're doing this.
- 11:09This might get weird podcasts. So and it's still going.
- 11:12They do one every week, but I don't really get into their
- 11:15podcast until earlier this year. I'm, I'm late to everything
- 11:19that's trendy, honestly. But I've been listening to the
- 11:22podcast from like the oldest ones to, you know, to the newer
- 11:27ones. So when I started listening
- 11:29earlier this year, I started from like the first episode and
- 11:32it was recorded like 2018 to 2019.
- 11:36I think that's when they started it.
- 11:37So it was like pre Pandemic and then I eventually heard them do
- 11:43the podcast at the start of the Pandemic.
- 11:45So that was like a bit of a throwback.
- 11:47But as I'm listening to these podcasts, I'm only getting into
- 11:50listen to these this year. Anytime I haven't upon a podcast
- 11:53I kind of like I start from the beginning and a lot of them
- 11:56they've been running for like a few years.
- 11:58So I'm hearing content. I'm least the episodes from like
- 12:012018-2019 pre pandemic, all that kind of stuff.
- 12:04But that's gonna be the first one that I started listening
- 12:08regularly to and and other podcasts that I just kind of
- 12:14stumble on more recently. So Mateo Lane is a comedian that
- 12:20I just kind of sort of discovered more recently on
- 12:23YouTube. And yeah, based on YouTube, he's
- 12:27got, he's got videos on YouTube, he's got some of his specials
- 12:31out on YouTube as well. And I don't know if he still, I
- 12:35don't know if they still do this but Matteo Lane has a podcast
- 12:40with a friend of his and it's called the Inside the Closet
- 12:44podcast and I'm trying to look up the name of like the Co host
- 12:50because he does it with someone else.
- 12:53It's OK. It's Emma Willman and Matteo
- 12:56Lane. They do this Inside the Closet
- 12:58podcast. I'm not sure if it still runs.
- 13:02I don't know if there's any recent episodes, but they talk a
- 13:05lot about him being a gay man and then she being a lesbian.
- 13:11So they talk a lot about, you know, queerness and sexuality
- 13:14and that kind of stuff. And they're both like comedians
- 13:16and entertainers. So, like, it's kind of
- 13:17entertaining to listen from that point of view as well.
- 13:20So I'm kind of listening to a little bit about that.
- 13:24The most recent podcast that I literally just started listening
- 13:28to this week is the Susie Orman Women and Money podcast.
- 13:34So I'm not a woman, obviously, but I find it kind of sort of
- 13:41entertaining. So I'm a little bit
- 13:42interpersonal finances. I keep a budget and all that
- 13:44kind of stuff, so anytime I can get some personal finance advice
- 13:51in an entertaining way, it's great for me.
- 13:55So Susie Orman kind of does that.
- 13:56I usually, I know years ago when she was on TV and she did the
- 14:01Susie Orman show. Not that I would like mark my
- 14:04calendar to like go watch it when it comes on, but like if it
- 14:07happens to be on or whatever, like a rerun on a weekend or
- 14:10whatever, I would kind of watch that.
- 14:13I like it when she gives advice to people that I call in or like
- 14:16write in or whatever, but those are kind of fun.
- 14:18She used to do the segment on her TV show.
- 14:22I forgot what it's called, but it's like, can I afford it?
- 14:24Where some of them want to buy something that they didn't
- 14:27really need. It was always something they
- 14:29want, like a car or go on vacation or like a boat or a jet
- 14:32ski or whatever it is. And then she would the the
- 14:36caller would ask Susie, like, you know, here's my finance
- 14:39situation, just how much might I've saved in my 4 O 1K and my
- 14:42IRA, Roth or emergency fund or whatever, just how much I bring
- 14:46in? This is more mortgage.
- 14:48And then Susie would tell them whether they can afford it or
- 14:52not, like a yay or nay. So I remember that segment when
- 14:56she used to do her TV show, but she got a podcast out now and I
- 15:00just started listening to it. It's obviously judging from
- 15:03title is for women, obviously, But I find it kind of
- 15:08entertaining, You know, it's it's not like, ha ha, funny like
- 15:11with, you know, some of these other podcasts that I mentioned
- 15:14where they're kind of from entertainers and kind of sort of
- 15:16comedians. But yeah, it's a weird mix of
- 15:21podcasts, but different types of podcasts.
- 15:24But those are the three that I'm listening to right now.
- 15:27You know what the weird thing is?
- 15:30And this is not, I don't think this is like a narcissistic
- 15:35thing, but when I put out a YouTube video and even the
- 15:40episodes of this podcast, I do sometimes listen to them.
- 15:47And for a lot of people, I think it's very difficult for them to
- 15:51see themselves on camera or they hear the voice play back to
- 15:55them. When I first started doing
- 15:57YouTube, that was the same too. I think.
- 15:59I didn't used to do this when I was doing the daily vlog daily
- 16:03calendar type videos on YouTube, however many like 10 years ago.
- 16:06But with the more recent YouTube videos, first of all, I end up
- 16:11editing it. I'm watching all the raw
- 16:14footage, you know, if I go on a cruise and I edit, I film a
- 16:17bunch of stuff and I'm putting together one of the after movies
- 16:20on a cruise. There's a lot of editing
- 16:23involved and I watch everything, especially with the stuff where
- 16:25I just set up a camp like a camcorder.
- 16:28Like right now for the video version of this podcast, I've
- 16:31got Camera right in front of me. It's recording and I have to
- 16:34edit that and I watch it. But yeah, just having done
- 16:37YouTube for so long, I'm completely fine hearing myself
- 16:41talk, see myself on camera because I do all my own editing
- 16:45and production work. But with the podcast, for
- 16:49example, I listened back to it. It's kind of sort of not because
- 16:53I like the sound of my voice, honestly.
- 16:55It's kind of sort of quality check, quality assurance.
- 16:58It's like, OK, you know, like I I've edited this podcast or I've
- 17:02made this video. Is it good?
- 17:05Like, what are, what were the details?
- 17:08Like, I'm kind of a detail oriented person, right?
- 17:11So when I'm editing, there's a tendency to kind of sort of like
- 17:16just just get it done, like just edit and get it done.
- 17:20Because if I let myself OCD on, the editing I would never
- 17:25finish. And editing is not the most
- 17:27enjoyable part of their process for a lot of people, including
- 17:32myself. I don't hate it, but it's not
- 17:35like enjoyable right. But sometimes I watch a video
- 17:39that I make on YouTube or this podcast and listen to it and
- 17:44I'll pick a little different things where oh, I should make a
- 17:47note to do this part better or to like not do so much of this.
- 17:53And same with the is, is, is, is anything you produce out there,
- 17:56right. You know you you you you produce
- 17:58anything and on on the regular you're going to want to kind of
- 18:02quality check your stuff right. So that's kind of what I do.
- 18:06So sometimes I'll download my own podcast after it goes up and
- 18:09like listen to it and the the mindset is not oh I think my
- 18:14podcast is so great. I love hearing my own voice.
- 18:16I love hearing myself talk about whatever.
- 18:19It's more how how much of attention did I really go off?
- 18:24Like, is this, is this a piece of work that I feel like I can
- 18:31consume myself? But it's kind of like, if I
- 18:33can't consume this content myself, how do I expect other
- 18:36people to even remotely want to consume it, right?
- 18:40Did I put out a quality piece of work?
- 18:42I want to go check for myself, So that's what happens.
- 18:46It's not because I like the look of my face on YouTube or I like
- 18:50the voice of my sound on a podcast.
- 18:53It's really to do. I just, I really wanna know and
- 18:58look at what I'm putting out there so that I can take little
- 19:03notes. And I do do that and I'll take
- 19:06those notes the next time I record whatever and apply it
- 19:10right. So that's why I listen to my own
- 19:13stuff. Not because I'm like full of
- 19:15myself. Really.
- 19:16Yeah. But yeah, I've been listening a
- 19:18lot of podcasts, especially the other situation.
- 19:20I will listen to a podcast is when I drive to the airport,
- 19:25Usually in the car it's music and I don't drive that much
- 19:28anyways, but I'm driving to the airport.
- 19:30It's like 40 minutes, 40 something minutes or an hour
- 19:33depending on traffic. And that's where I like put on a
- 19:36podcast. I used to only listen to music,
- 19:38but you know, after so many years the music gets a little
- 19:41boring. So when that's the case, I just
- 19:43put it in the podcast. I mean podcast is like the hot
- 19:45thing these days. Everyone's like listen to some
- 19:47sort of podcast. I got into it like really late.
- 19:49I before this year, I never really listened to any sort of
- 19:53podcasts or anything. I've never listened to
- 19:55audiobooks. My brother sent me an audiobook
- 19:58that's a Formula One related audiobook a year ago, two years
- 20:03ago as like an audible.com gift, and I've never clicked on that.
- 20:10I've never it was free, but I wasn't at that time into like
- 20:15any audiobooks. I don't think I've listened to
- 20:17any audiobooks at all, so. I think that was a Do people
- 20:24still do that? I have no idea.
- 20:26But but here we are now. I have started listening to
- 20:30other people's podcasts as well as my own for quality assurance,
- 20:33and I record one every week. So there you go.
- 20:36Speaking of consuming content, I have a note on here.
- 20:41Whenever I get a random idea, I would jot it down.
- 20:46Many weeks ago I talked about, I think I talked about this, but I
- 20:51think I just talked started talking about it and I
- 20:54completely went off a tangent and I didn't finish the thought
- 20:58they must start. The thought I was going to talk
- 21:01about the TV shows that I watch and I mentioned that I was
- 21:06watching Season 2 of Heart Stopper, which came out earlier
- 21:10this year. It's it didn't just come out.
- 21:12I think came out in the summer a little while ago, earlier this
- 21:15year, and then was listening to myself talk on the recording and
- 21:19then I discovered I completely went off on attention.
- 21:21Didn't finish my thought. But I love the first season.
- 21:26I rewatched the first season more than a few times and that's
- 21:32usually the type of TV show or movies or whatever that I like
- 21:37to watch. I don't like scary movies.
- 21:41I like to laugh. I like to.
- 21:43I like something heartfelt. I like to be entertained.
- 21:46I don't like anything that requires a lot of investment or
- 21:53that requires a lot of effort to watch, right?
- 21:55So something like Light Hearted, that's easy to watch.
- 21:58That's really what I want. So the first season of Heart
- 22:02Stopper, I loved it. It was great.
- 22:05A little idealistic in terms of, you know, like the storyline,
- 22:09the plot. It's like, of course they got
- 22:10together, duh. But that's kind of what I want
- 22:14to look for. I'm not looking for lots of
- 22:15twists and turns and that kind of stuff.
- 22:17I just want, I just want an easy watch.
- 22:19Having that mindset. I've only watched the first two
- 22:23episodes of the second season of Heart Stopper's name.
- 22:28I think I keep saying Heartbreaker, but it's Heart
- 22:31Stopper is the actual name of the show.
- 22:33I think I'm, I said it wrong. But anyways, only watched the
- 22:37first two episodes and the first two episodes in the second
- 22:40season. Even those two episodes.
- 22:43I was getting so much anxiety watching it because it's spoiler
- 22:49alert, If you haven't watched Heart Stopper and there's any
- 22:53chance you might want to watch it, or you watched the first
- 22:56season but you haven't watched the second season, please don't
- 22:59listen to the rest of this podcast.
- 23:01Come back to it later, Biz spoiler alert.
- 23:04There you go. I've warned you, spoilers are
- 23:06coming only for the first two episodes, but that's only two
- 23:09episodes I've watched. But basically I was getting so
- 23:12much anxiety watching it. I just stopped watching it
- 23:15because they're together now and they are not hiding it very
- 23:23well. Kind of brings me back to my
- 23:25semi closeted days I didn't have.
- 23:28I wasn't closeted and also like dating someone or had a
- 23:32boyfriend the same time. But when you're in school, like
- 23:36high school, being closeted is like hard enough.
- 23:39But it just gave me anxiety because OK, they are kind of
- 23:44closeted because most of their friends don't know and like the
- 23:48school doesn't know, but they're also like kissing in random
- 23:53public places in the school. And for me, I'm like, you're
- 23:56going to get caught. You're going to get caught.
- 23:59And that gave me anxiety because like, not only are they going to
- 24:05get caught, like making out, they're going to get caught just
- 24:09being gay. So they're going to get in
- 24:11trouble for it because the school probably doesn't allow
- 24:13that and it's going to, like ruin it.
- 24:16So I keep watching the 1st and 2nd episode and all I can think
- 24:19of is you guys keep making out in, like in in the school in
- 24:25places where like it's very likely someone could see you,
- 24:28like in the locker room that you think is empty, but it's not.
- 24:31But I'm getting so much that because I know you guys are
- 24:34going to get caught and it's going to ruin both of your lives
- 24:37like in the show. So I'm just like constantly on
- 24:41this verge of like, Oh my God, this is where you're going to
- 24:44get caught. Like, and I don't want them to
- 24:45get caught because it's triggering for me because as a
- 24:48gay person that was closeted and you know, in school where I
- 24:53started telling a few of my like high school dude, bro friends
- 24:59and we'll unpack that in a separate episode because we
- 25:01don't have time today. That's like anxiety, you know?
- 25:06So I was like watching with so much anxiety.
- 25:07Maybe if maybe like a straight person watching it, maybe that
- 25:12has never gone through coming out wouldn't have so much
- 25:14anxiety watching it. But I was like, I I I'm so
- 25:19excited to watch the new season, the first episode and then like
- 25:23very soon in their first episode I was like just give me so much
- 25:26anxiety. I tried to persevere and watch
- 25:29the second episode but after this episode I was like I need
- 25:32to turn this off because I'm here for not.
- 25:35I'm I'm not I don't watch TV to want to be to to get anxious.
- 25:39I'm watching TV to like to be relaxed.
- 25:43I'm on an easy watch like I said and yeah, no, this is I I just,
- 25:49I just couldn't watch it. So if I'm really really bored on
- 25:53a plane ride later this year, I will maybe try to watch it.
- 26:00I have a downloader on my iPad. But yeah, it was like I, I,
- 26:05yeah, I this is not the kind of TVI.
- 26:07Watch what I do what I just change changing the changing the
- 26:15topic a little bit. A weird thing I watch are
- 26:21veterinarian shows which I find really interesting.
- 26:26So I also watch I think I mentioned this I watched those
- 26:28airplane crash investigation shows not no plane crashes are
- 26:33horrible. They're few and far in between,
- 26:35but they're horrible. But I like watching it because
- 26:37of the investigative work that they do where they look into
- 26:41like the reason, the root causes of why that incident happened
- 26:46and then how they actually to what about doing it and what the
- 26:49outcome was, how they made air travel safer.
- 26:51Like I like the engineering investigative aspect of it.
- 26:54Obviously, like the the the plane crash is horrible and to
- 26:59there to be people injured or lives lost is not good.
- 27:03But I like watching the engineering, the scientific, the
- 27:05investigative part of it and how they make changes to make, you
- 27:09know with the regulations to make air travel safer.
- 27:12So that's interesting and that's something I that's something
- 27:15that's it sounds like an intense watch, but for me it's like very
- 27:19fascinating. So like I can actually watch it
- 27:22and enjoy a show like that. I've been kind of also watching
- 27:26on Nat Geo National Geography. The some of the veterinarian
- 27:32shows, there's like a whole bunch of them and there's like a
- 27:35few of them that I just like randomly watch.
- 27:37I I like the idea of having a pet.
- 27:42I just don't want the burden of having pets.
- 27:45I was so close to getting a dog. I think I meant, but there's a
- 27:49dog crate sitting in my living room right now.
- 27:51I was that close to getting a dog.
- 27:54I had filled out an few two or three applications to adopt A
- 27:58dog earlier this year. Like it was actually last year,
- 28:01I think earlier this year or like late last year.
- 28:05And it's hardly kind of worms why I actually have to dock,
- 28:08right, and don't have the dog. I've had a few people come over
- 28:10and be like, is that a dog crate in your living room?
- 28:12Like, yes, here's the story on that dock, right since I brought
- 28:16it up. Let's just get into it.
- 28:18It's not a super long story. So I was like, I was like, OK, I
- 28:22want to get a dog. So I start looking to like how
- 28:25to adopt A dog and what breed I want and started getting some of
- 28:30the supplies actually. So I decided I wanted this kind
- 28:35of nice dock crate. It's a really nice looking one.
- 28:39It's not just like this weird ugly plastic or like metal cage
- 28:44looking thing, but there's this nice kind of wooden one that I
- 28:48wanted and it also serves as like a side table.
- 28:52It's very sturdy. It's kind of like the height of
- 28:55like a side table that you would find beside your sofa in the
- 28:58living room. It blends in with you know all
- 29:01the rest of the furniture, blends in with the decor, but
- 29:04that dock crate had a lead time just back when supply chain
- 29:08issues in like 2022. Everything was like a multiple
- 29:12week wait for anything you want to buy and it would have taken
- 29:16like two months or something like that.
- 29:19To get this crate you have to wait like 6 or 8 weeks.
- 29:21So I was thinking, well a dock crate is really important if
- 29:26you're going to have a dog in your house.
- 29:27Like the dog needs a crate and I didn't want to buy like a crappy
- 29:33temporary crate only to have to like get rid of it later.
- 29:36So I was thinking well before the dog comes because I was like
- 29:39convinced I was going to get a dog and I was like talking to
- 29:43shelters and things like that. Let's order the crate now
- 29:46because it takes like 6 or 8 weeks to arrive, so that by the
- 29:50time I would have adopted a dog, Dog dog adoption can't happen
- 29:55very quickly. If you really wanted to, you can
- 29:59like within one or two days bring a dog home.
- 30:02So because I didn't know exactly when I would find like the the
- 30:07right dog or whatever and bring that dog home, I didn't want to
- 30:09like, you know, bring a dog home without the crate in place.
- 30:12But this crate that I wanted was going to take six or eight
- 30:14weeks. So I pulled the trigger and just
- 30:16bought the crate online thinking that, OK, let's have the crate
- 30:21that I want in place before I go get the dog.
- 30:26But basically, within the time, the two months that it took for
- 30:30the crate to arrive, I then decide, I think when the dog
- 30:36crate actually came, I still wanted to get a dog.
- 30:38But soon after that I decided, you know what?
- 30:43I should not have a dog. I think yeah, I was.
- 30:49So I was so on board with getting a dog and then a couple
- 30:52of months later I was so not on board with it.
- 30:55Looking back at it that that drama was like a year ago.
- 30:58I think it was 2022. Looking back at it now, it's
- 31:02still the right call for me today to not have a dog.
- 31:06So a dog sat for a friend like a couple of times.
- 31:11That's what I should do. I I travel too much.
- 31:14I'm way too used to not having dependence.
- 31:17A dog is completely dependent on you, completely, 100% for every
- 31:22single thing, walking them, picking up their shit twice a
- 31:25day, feeding them, putting out water for them, anything that
- 31:30they need attended to, you have to do that.
- 31:34So I was aware of that. But back then when I was
- 31:40convincing myself like, I'm going to get adopted, I do love
- 31:43dogs. And I was always kind of sort of
- 31:49thinking, do I do I do I have it in me to take care of dog?
- 31:52I am a very responsible person. If I somehow had a dog like, I
- 31:56would take care of it. But thinking more about it, it's
- 32:02like it's not the money. But dogs can also be very
- 32:05expensive, like medical bills and all that kind of stuff.
- 32:09But I was thinking back then, the way I talked about something
- 32:12to it was, well, you always wanted a dog.
- 32:14You want a dog since you were like 12 and you're in your 30s
- 32:18now and you know, are you going to wait till you're 60 to have a
- 32:22dog? And there's always going to be
- 32:24some sort of excuse. So you're not going to stop
- 32:27traveling tomorrow, You're always going to travel.
- 32:31And one of the main things for me was I travel, get on the
- 32:36plane at least once a month and I'll it might be a short trip.
- 32:41It might just be for a weekend trip that I go somewhere.
- 32:44Sometimes I go away for a week, like when I go on the cruises.
- 32:47I'm away for seven or eight days.
- 32:49And I was thinking, well, I'm not going to.
- 32:51I'm always going to travel. I'm, you know, it doesn't matter
- 32:54if I'm in my 30s, forties, fifties, 60s, I'm going to keep
- 32:56travelling. I'm not going to like, no, just
- 32:59not travel. So I was thinking myself,
- 33:02travelling isn't a good excuse to not have a dog.
- 33:05If you want a dog, you just have to work with it.
- 33:08So you just have to be OK to have friends that can dox it for
- 33:13you, or you have to go to like a doggy hotel, whatever.
- 33:16But you know, like if you really want a dog, you just have to
- 33:21work within what you've got. So that's kind of sorry, talk
- 33:24myself into it. Like, there's never going to be
- 33:26a great, awesome situation where I'm going to be able to have a
- 33:32dog fit nice and neatly into my life because I do travel at
- 33:36least once a month. I'm on a trip, if not more
- 33:38sometimes. And you know, I spend a lot of
- 33:41time, spend a lot of time at home now because I, you know, do
- 33:45all my business from home right now.
- 33:46But maybe one day I have a nine to five job, right?
- 33:50And you know, like the ideal person to kind of really have a
- 33:53dog kind of doesn't exist. Because even for someone who's
- 33:58like I stay at home mom, but I stay at home mom even without
- 34:02the dog, with the kids, it's a full time job 24/7.
- 34:05No vacation breaks, no lunch breaks, no dinner breaks, no, no
- 34:08anything like if you are stay at home mom, that is like you're on
- 34:13the clock all the time, every hour and then every minute,
- 34:16every second without without the four O 1K or like the medical
- 34:20benefits. So I was thinking the the ideal
- 34:25situation for to have a dog doesn't really exist for anyone.
- 34:29Like the ideal person is like someone who doesn't need to earn
- 34:35their own money, who's home all the time like that.
- 34:39That's if you have a sugar daddy or or a housewife like.
- 34:43And those are not the only people that have dogs.
- 34:45Lots of people have fully functional lives where they make
- 34:50their own income, they have other things go on and have a
- 34:52dog and make it work. So that's I was thinking like,
- 34:56well, I'm not like if all these other people can have a dog and
- 35:02be fine, like, it shouldn't be a problem for me.
- 35:06So that's how I talked myself into like, you know what, let's
- 35:09just get a dog. Like you always wanted a dog.
- 35:12You can make this work. Millions of other people have
- 35:15regular everyday lives with jobs and other responsibilities or
- 35:19kids and all that kind of stuff. And they can have a dog.
- 35:23Like you work from home and you don't have kids and you know you
- 35:29at the time. Anyways, you do have enough
- 35:31money to like do this, so like you can just go do it.
- 35:35But yeah, it ultimately decided not to have a dog.
- 35:39Looking back at it now, a year later and this whole year, like
- 35:43since then, I've not regretted that choice at all.
- 35:46If I want to go get a dog, I can go get a dog, right?
- 35:48But yeah, I just don't want to. It's so simple though.
- 35:52What click for me is, do I want to pick up after a dog their
- 36:00poop twice a day, every day for the rest of my life?
- 36:05It was that simple, like something clicked about that,
- 36:07asking myself that question. Now its answer is no, I don't
- 36:10want to pick up after any animal for like twice a day for the
- 36:15rest of my life. Yeah, so there you go.
- 36:19So maybe that means I never have a I'll never have a dog if I
- 36:23ended up with a partner who also really wanted a dog.
- 36:27That's a little different. Like if I'm in like a long term
- 36:29relationship where we're living together and we both share that
- 36:34duty and it's not completely on me to have to about.
- 36:38If I only have to pick up after a dog's poop half the time and
- 36:43not 100% of the time, that might be doable.
- 36:47So that's different. Like I'm not going to say I'm
- 36:50going to go find a husband just to have a dog.
- 36:53Like, I don't want the dog that badly, but I think that's where
- 36:57I will re evaluate having a dog. This is how this is how my
- 37:03thought process works. It I I I like to think I'm a
- 37:07logical person. I think most people think
- 37:09they're a logical person. Like most people think they are
- 37:12smart. Most people think they're funny.
- 37:14Most people think they are doing the right thing, right.
- 37:18But having like explained it to you now, it's like, yeah, it was
- 37:24really just all over the place. It's like I went from seriously
- 37:28wanting a dog. I went to like this shelter and
- 37:31actually like played around with the dogs.
- 37:32Actually submitted a few applications to adopt dogs.
- 37:36None of luckily, none of those. I didn't get any of those.
- 37:39I guess if I did get a dog though, like at that time,
- 37:44marijuana, if I somebody actually got a dog, I think I
- 37:48would really love the dog. And even though it might be like
- 37:53all this extra responsibility at work to do it, I think I would
- 37:59be happy with the dog. But also looking back at it now,
- 38:02I'm equally happy not having the dog.
- 38:04So yeah, it it it doesn't make that much logical sense, does
- 38:10it? It's a little bit like neither
- 38:11here nor there. But I went from like almost,
- 38:15really almost getting a dog buying.
- 38:16I have a leash and I have poop bags in my pantry right now.
- 38:20And that dog crate I told you about, I was sitting in my
- 38:24living room and like a month or two later it became, no, I'm.
- 38:29I'm not getting a dog. And I'm very comfortable with
- 38:31that. I'm comfortable with that and
- 38:34that I don't have a dog right now.
- 38:36But you have some dramatic swing on, a pretty big decision.
- 38:40It's not like, you know, oh, Oh my God, like don't, please don't
- 38:45get someone a dog for. It's like a present.
- 38:49I guess families sometimes get dogs for, like, their kids and
- 38:51stuff, but that's like a family decision.
- 38:53That's fine. But yeah, like it.
- 38:56It's otherwise such a big decision that I don't think you
- 38:58should do it as like a gift for someone who's not really
- 39:00suspecting it. But anyways, yeah, like to have
- 39:03swing so dramatic from like a heart yes to a heart no.
- 39:07In the matter of like, I don't know, I think maybe like a few
- 39:11weeks or like a couple weeks or something.
- 39:13It's not really like me. But yeah, I'm kind of glad I
- 39:16don't have the dog now. I love dogs.
- 39:18I just, I don't think I want to have a dog.
- 39:21So I do have some friends that a couple of friends that I dock,
- 39:25sit for them a couple of times and that's fun.
- 39:28Like have to. I don't need to worry about
- 39:31teaching them. I don't worry.
- 39:33I don't have to worry about spoiling the dog.
- 39:35If I got a dog, I think I'd probably be more of a strict pet
- 39:42owner than like a LAX one. The dog needs to behave at
- 39:46least. Yeah, the dog just needs to
- 39:48behave. But with this dog that I dock
- 39:51sit every once in a great while, I get to spoil the dog and I
- 39:55don't have to worry about the repercussions, which is like
- 39:57really awesome. I can feed the dog as many doggy
- 40:01treats as I want so that the dog will listen to me.
- 40:03This dog is extremely food motivated.
- 40:06And I don't have to worry about it creating bad habits.
- 40:09But it's not my dog. My my friends kind of sort of
- 40:12know this, so I don't think they listen to this podcast.
- 40:15But like, I'm not ruining your dog.
- 40:16But I definitely do spoil that dog when he stays with me
- 40:21because it's not my dog and I get to spoil him.
- 40:23So, all right, there you go. That will be another episode of
- 40:27the podcast. So remember, the video version
- 40:30of this podcast is available on Spotify and also on my YouTube
- 40:33channel. Just Joey T I'm actually wearing
- 40:36one of my favorite tops this sleeveless T that I have.
- 40:41It's from top man, Top Shot. I don't know if that store even
- 40:45exists anymore, but I got this, oh, I don't know, five or six
- 40:49years ago. And this is one of my favorite.
- 40:51This is my one of my most favorite shirts that I have.
- 40:53And if you watch the video show, the podcast, you can see me
- 40:55wearing it and know what it looks like.
- 40:57But until next time, bye.
