- 0:22SPEAKER_00: After hosting the Daily Rider Podcast and the Daily Rider Club membership for a few years, I can feel pretty confident in saying that most of the people in my audience are introverts.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: And like other introverts, I feel worn down by interacting with people.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Now, I love people.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: I truly do.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Well, I love most people.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, let's be honest.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: You can't love every single person in the world because some people are major jerks or they're axe murderers or serial killers or whatever.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: But I love the vast majority of people, probably like you do.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: But here's the deal: we introverts are wired to get our energy from being alone.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: And as a result, all the conversations that happen during the week leave me pretty mentally depleted by the time that Friday rolls around.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's not cool to admit that in public, but it's just the truth.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: And my guess is you probably relate to that on some level.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: So here's what I've done for the last year and a half or so.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: I have kept a pretty strict rule that I try not to do any calls or meetings on Fridays.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: And honestly, it's been a massive help knowing that I can do work on Fridays and I don't need to spend extra emotional energy on conversations or calls.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: This is what I call my mental safe zone.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Now, I used to feel guilty about this as if being an introvert was some kind of weakness, but I've come to not just accept, but celebrate the way that I'm wired.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: And I think it's important for you to put guardrails up around your emotional wiring.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: If you don't protect your gift, you'll burn out and you'll kill the very thing that makes you so valuable.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Now, I'll admit that once in a great while I will do a call on a Friday if it's absolutely necessary.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: But I make sure that Friday is generally blocked off on my calendarly calendar.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: In addition, I steer people toward meetings on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays if possible, because Wednesday typically is a very busy meetings day for me.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: And even if I'm feeling depleted during the week, I can relax knowing that Friday is a day when I can be my own introverted self and I can reserve all my energy for writing or administrative work or whatever I need to do to kind of put my head down and really go to it.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: So here's my challenge for you today.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: If you're feeling burned out or mentally depleted, take a look at your schedule.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: You might need to build a mental safe zone into your week.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Hey, before I close up shop on this episode, I want to give a huge thanks to today's sponsor, which is the Word Wizard.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Speaking of forces in your life that make you feel mentally safe and give you energy, one of those forces is my good friend Karen Hunsinger, who is also known as the Word Wizard.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: She is the editor whom I've collaborated with closely on lots of projects over the last year or two.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: And she's not only really, really good at what she does, she's also just a really sweet, kind, and wonderful person to work with.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: So if you're looking for a great editor for your book, whether it's a short book or a long book or whether it's other kinds of content, Karen is your go-to person for that.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: There's a reason that she's called the Word Wizard.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: It's because what she does is kind of like magic.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: I'm not even sure how she does what she does all the time because, you know, and that's that's true of a good editor in general.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Like you're not really quite sure how they work their magic, but you're just really, really glad that they do.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: So I'd encourage you, if you're looking for a great editor, to get in touch with Karen by going to Karenhunsinger.com and contacting her, and she will be happy to give you a free sample edit so you can see for yourself the amazing difference that her editing skills will make in your book or your other kinds of content.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Or if you'd like a personal intro to Karen, just let me know.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Shoot me an email at Kent at DailyRiderLife.com and I would be happy to do so.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: All right, my friend, as always, thanks for listening, and I'll see you next time.
