- 0:28Speaker 1: Welcome to the Great Detectors of Old Time Radio from Boise, Idaho.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is your host, Adam Graham. If you have a comment,
- 0:37Speaker 1: email it to me Box thirteen at Great Detectives dot net,
- 0:42Speaker 1: Follow us on Twitter at Radio Detectives, and become one
- 0:46Speaker 1: of our friends on Facebook, Facebook dot com slash Radio Detectives. Well,
- 0:50Speaker 1: this is our one thousand, six hundred and fiftieth episode special,
- 0:55Speaker 1: and for it, I wanted to bring you a program
- 0:58Speaker 1: I've been wanting to bring you for quite a while.
- 1:03Speaker 1: September thirtieth of nineteen sixty two marks the official end
- 1:10Speaker 1: of the Golden Age of radio. Johnny Doller in Suspense
- 1:13Speaker 1: were the last two major programs that aired on nationwide radio. However,
- 1:20Speaker 1: it was far from the end of radio drama in
- 1:23Speaker 1: the United States. Indeed, the series Unshackled for Pacific Garden
- 1:28Speaker 1: Missions and Heartbeat Theater for the Salvation Army continued to
- 1:32Speaker 1: be syndicated, and in addition, the nineteen seventies would see
- 1:36Speaker 1: many great radio revival programs, Rod Serlin's Hollywood Radio Theater,
- 1:42Speaker 1: a General Mills Radio Theater, the Sears Theater, the Mutual Theater,
- 1:48Speaker 1: and most famously of all, the CBS Mystery Theater. None
- 1:52Speaker 1: of those were actually going to bring you on this
- 1:54Speaker 1: program because of copyright concerns, but the earliest radio revival
- 2:00Speaker 1: efforts to be traced back as early as nineteen sixty four.
- 2:04Speaker 1: There was Matthew Slade, Private Investigator, a series we hope
- 2:09Speaker 1: to bring you once we tracked down the last part
- 2:12Speaker 1: of that elusive Day of the Phoenix story. And then
- 2:15Speaker 1: there was one of the grandest of them all, Theater Five.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Theater five was produced by ABC out of New York
- 2:24Speaker 1: five days a week. Can featured a wide variety of
- 2:28Speaker 1: different plays in different johns. Most of them ran about
- 2:32Speaker 1: twenty to twenty two minutes. So we wanted to find
- 2:36Speaker 1: something that would be just perfect for our series, and
- 2:41Speaker 1: we found one. This episode original air date was January
- 2:46Speaker 1: sixteenth of nineteen sixty five, and the title is The
- 2:51Speaker 1: Button Stealers Too.
- 3:00Speaker 2: What's the matter? I come come as you this night?
- 3:03Speaker 2: We need a sensible explanation. I told you I was
- 3:05Speaker 2: one of a trail. I'm looking for my two partners.
- 3:08Speaker 2: You perhaps to find your fat news and eat away
- 3:11Speaker 2: and Alley off till removed down knock Just let me pass it.
- 3:23Speaker 2: That's it, m hm. Theater five presents the button Steelers.
- 3:54Speaker 2: All right, all right, who is it? Kurt Dempster, Kurt Dempster,
- 4:01Speaker 2: gool it? What floor were you on? Your office? Number?
- 4:06Speaker 2: Fifteen eighty seven?
- 4:07Speaker 3: Open up?
- 4:10Speaker 2: Thanks? The department know you're here. Nobody knows I'm here.
- 4:14Speaker 2: I'm sure I wasn't followed. So that's the way it is.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Why met Kurt desperation. I'll just get my address. I
- 4:22Speaker 2: prayed you hadn't changed your name, Andrew Mallory. I just
- 4:25Speaker 2: prayed that you hadn't taken that piece of hard luck
- 4:27Speaker 2: seriously enough to change your name. I prayed, looked in
- 4:30Speaker 2: the phone book and there you were, number four U consierge,
- 4:35Speaker 2: and here you are drink. Thanks? What do you want, Kurt?
- 4:45Speaker 2: Communications have broken down, or rather I can't trust them.
- 4:49Speaker 2: I figure you can help me. I haven't done any
- 4:51Speaker 2: security work for seven years. But what an agent you were. Yeah,
- 4:55Speaker 2: the department didn't agree with you when they fired me.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Everyone knows it wasn't your fault. You just flipped up
- 5:00Speaker 2: and it came out. What are you doing now? Exporting antiques?
- 5:03Speaker 2: You like it very much? Look? I need help. You
- 5:06Speaker 2: know how much I needed? And what's it worth? This
- 5:08Speaker 2: is a big operation, the biggest Goodbye. Where are you
- 5:12Speaker 2: going the bedroom to pack? Andy? You've got to help me.
- 5:17Speaker 2: You've got to, yeah, get my head blown off or
- 5:20Speaker 2: end up in the same No thanks, nobody will know.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Caught your heart and hope to die Kurt. Now'll listen,
- 5:27Speaker 2: Oh you listen once. I had to do it with
- 5:31Speaker 2: a job, and you were the best, and you know
- 5:33Speaker 2: what I got for it. Now now I should stick
- 5:37Speaker 2: my neck out because you're in a Jandy, Will you listen.
- 5:40Speaker 2: I'll have to until I finish packing, all right. Code
- 5:43Speaker 2: name is Operation Trio. Try to make it a quartet.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Then if you help, it'll still be a trio. The
- 5:51Speaker 2: second agent was killed on a removed less than an
- 5:53Speaker 2: hour ago. I change the code name to duo. There
- 5:56Speaker 2: were three of us. Slipscomb, he's a new man, or
- 5:59Speaker 2: was Dieter and me Lipskin was coming through from a
- 6:02Speaker 2: ral Dieter from Cambodi and I just got in from Bookerase.
- 6:05Speaker 2: It sounds like a great travelogue. Why don't you put
- 6:07Speaker 2: it on television? You're worried about your neck. You can
- 6:11Speaker 2: say that again. I ran tonight. I ran here, but
- 6:15Speaker 2: if it were only my life, I was thinking about
- 6:18Speaker 2: I know a dozen rat holes in Paris where I
- 6:20Speaker 2: could crawl and hide. Now you've got a job to do.
- 6:22Speaker 2: You're a patriot. If you blow this job, there'll be
- 6:25Speaker 2: another assignment for you. I live here and I intend
- 6:28Speaker 2: to stay alive. Good Night and good luck, Hanby, I said,
- 6:33Speaker 2: good night. I'll take it. Hello, mistere, but we will
- 6:46Speaker 2: give you just five minutes to send your visitor out. Well,
- 6:52Speaker 2: it was it. You were wrong, Kurt. You were followed.
- 7:07Speaker 2: So you figure that like it or not. I'm in Huh?
- 7:10Speaker 2: How do you figure it? Andy? And just the way
- 7:13Speaker 2: you do, just the way you did when you came here.
- 7:16Speaker 2: How look can be? I told you I didn't think
- 7:19Speaker 2: I was followed. I meant it then and I mean
- 7:21Speaker 2: it now. Well, they intercepted Lipscomb on the remove style.
- 7:24Speaker 2: I knew they had a pipeline into the operation. That
- 7:27Speaker 2: must be true. But Operation Trio required the three of you.
- 7:30Speaker 2: They had Lipscomb or do they want to you this?
- 7:36Speaker 2: Where'd that come from? It's the second button from Lipscomb's jacket.
- 7:41Speaker 2: After they got him, I grabbed it and ran, and
- 7:44Speaker 2: that's why they're after me. I now have two of
- 7:47Speaker 2: the buttons and Dieter has a third right, and if
- 7:51Speaker 2: we can make the meat with Dieter, we can still
- 7:53Speaker 2: write Operation Trio Off as a success. Microfilm Underneath the
- 7:58Speaker 2: Buttons in from from Romania on China's real capabilities for
- 8:03Speaker 2: launching missiles. Now that they have both the A bomb
- 8:05Speaker 2: and the hydrogen bomb, who said, we know? And with
- 8:09Speaker 2: my button and the one Dieter has, we'll know how
- 8:12Speaker 2: they move so fast and how fast they're going to
- 8:14Speaker 2: go in the future. You know what that's worth in Washington?
- 8:16Speaker 2: I know, Kurt, where were you supposed to make the
- 8:19Speaker 2: meet with Dieter? I don't know. You don't know Lipskoin
- 8:23Speaker 2: was supposed to have that information. Don't you have an
- 8:26Speaker 2: emergency number? I tried it before I came here. Line's dead?
- 8:29Speaker 2: Or what about Deeter? Will he be looking for you?
- 8:31Speaker 2: Your guess is as good as mine. Let's go, But
- 8:35Speaker 2: we can't walk around Paris looking for Dieter. Do you
- 8:38Speaker 2: know a little cellar club called a Renaissance where neither
- 8:42Speaker 2: doom I go off the Boulevard Saint Germain. We'll split up.
- 8:45Speaker 2: I'll meet you there in an hour. They'll be downstairs.
- 8:47Speaker 2: We're going up over the roofs andy. Yeah, I feel
- 8:52Speaker 2: a lot better. I don't invictor I'm expecting another American
- 9:09Speaker 2: younger than I, sandy haired, blue eyes to be looking
- 9:12Speaker 2: for me. His name is Monsieur Dempster. Tell him on
- 9:15Speaker 2: Monsieur Koubey's office. Good evening, Henri, Andrew, and old friend
- 9:24Speaker 2: and old old bred who had us without nothing. But
- 9:29Speaker 2: I am delighted to see you, Andrew Brandy. No thanks
- 9:33Speaker 2: at my age, it warms the blood. Yeah. And then
- 9:37Speaker 2: your youth that sharpened your eyes. And I was always
- 9:40Speaker 2: good at excuses. The surte and every gendarme in Paris
- 9:44Speaker 2: will testify to that. It is the curious that you
- 9:47Speaker 2: should come here tonight, my friend. What can I do
- 9:50Speaker 2: for you? There was to be information exchanged in meetings tonight.
- 9:57Speaker 2: You are not back at work? Well YUSA. No. Three
- 10:01Speaker 2: men Americans were to meet. Their names were Lipscomb, Dieter,
- 10:05Speaker 2: and Dempster. Two of them were to meet in the
- 10:09Speaker 2: room Muftar. They almost did. One of them, Lipscomb, didn't
- 10:13Speaker 2: make it. The other one saw what happened and random me.
- 10:17Speaker 2: You knew he from the old days and he was
- 10:21Speaker 2: willing to involve you. I'm here, I'm looking for the
- 10:25Speaker 2: third man, Dieter and these men. He's necessary. He has
- 10:29Speaker 2: the third piece of a puzzle, an information puzzle. But
- 10:34Speaker 2: the sick old man, the man in the room, mufda,
- 10:38Speaker 2: he's available. No, but his information is Yeah. You may
- 10:43Speaker 2: go into my study and watch television. Sleep. I should
- 10:47Speaker 2: need about an hour or two Andrew, Andrew, wake up? Oh, Henri,
- 11:02Speaker 2: my friend arrived in naught yet? How but you found
- 11:05Speaker 2: out something? All right, let's have it. I do not
- 11:09Speaker 2: like what I have discovered. I couldn't care less. Come on,
- 11:13Speaker 2: tell me, Andrew listened to me. We were together for
- 11:17Speaker 2: a long time. These basiness is a very bad order, Honri.
- 11:22Speaker 2: There is no report of any incident on the rule
- 11:26Speaker 2: moved out tonight. So what look, Henrie, you're too old
- 11:32Speaker 2: a hand to let that bother you. If it's what
- 11:35Speaker 2: I think, it would have been hushed up. Andrew, you forget,
- 11:40Speaker 2: you forget my sources, You forget why you came to me.
- 11:46Speaker 2: There was no incident in the rule moved out tonight.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Maybe you're losing touch, Honri. You think soon? Look, I
- 11:56Speaker 2: know Kurt Dampsir as long as you know me. Well,
- 11:59Speaker 2: not right, But Dempster told me how big. This was
- 12:02Speaker 2: one man coming from Romania, one from Cambodia. Nonsense? What
- 12:08Speaker 2: makes you so sure? Come, Andrew? I would like you
- 12:19Speaker 2: to meet miss u Colin detail. M Andrew, I would
- 12:41Speaker 2: like you to meet Missulin Detail. I've heard about you, Mallory,
- 12:45Speaker 2: and I know Ari. Otherwise I wouldn't have come here.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Were you supposed to be foul up? Originally? I was
- 12:51Speaker 2: supposed to meet Lipscomb and Dempster at fouquets upstairs, and
- 12:55Speaker 2: I got a flash red from emergency calling the meat off.
- 12:58Speaker 2: I call Emergency back and the line is dead. Now
- 13:02Speaker 2: you tell me where I'm supposed to, Henri? When did
- 13:04Speaker 2: do we last do business? Who? Some years ago? And
- 13:07Speaker 2: some years ago?
- 13:08Speaker 3: Half?
- 13:08Speaker 2: Times have changed? Now? The times have certainly changed, my friend,
- 13:12Speaker 2: but the people have known. Now I'm older, softer, Maybe
- 13:15Speaker 2: I've lost my touch? Where is your friend, Miss Dempster?
- 13:20Speaker 2: Was he not supposed to be hero soon? Henri? Didn't
- 13:23Speaker 2: you say this triple operation was nonsense? Ideed Peter and
- 13:27Speaker 2: somebody in Washington is playing games at one moment, Andrew,
- 13:31Speaker 2: did I not bring miss you here? You sure did, Henri,
- 13:35Speaker 2: knowing that I'd expect Dempster and that would bring everyone
- 13:38Speaker 2: necessary together, which is what you want. Maybe you wanted
- 13:42Speaker 2: it to you and all the roommen quite stuids quickly, good,
- 13:55Speaker 2: do not move while my friend removes the buttons from
- 13:57Speaker 2: the always kid excellent, Thank you so much, messieurs. Well
- 14:07Speaker 2: that's that you're beautiful. You are Mallory when I think
- 14:11Speaker 2: of all the stories I've heard about you, the great
- 14:14Speaker 2: Andrew Mallory. The first time I meet up with him,
- 14:18Speaker 2: he walks me right into a trap. I watched my
- 14:21Speaker 2: whole mission go bust, and he says, well, that's that
- 14:25Speaker 2: the whole operation. Leader. Oh, now you're going to tell
- 14:29Speaker 2: me that our friends still need to locate Dempster and
- 14:31Speaker 2: here's part of the operation. All they have to do
- 14:34Speaker 2: is wait until he comes here and then pick up
- 14:36Speaker 2: what they want. Good night, I'll go along with you.
- 14:39Speaker 2: No thanks, and Corbett, you know this will be reported.
- 14:44Speaker 2: I am afraid so who he is, and remembered if
- 14:47Speaker 2: I were you, I'd start figuring out how to get
- 14:49Speaker 2: out of my lease. Henri, I hate to think those
- 14:59Speaker 2: gunmen were friends of yours. I think Monsieur Dita suspects
- 15:03Speaker 2: that perhaps they were friends of yours. I don't blame
- 15:06Speaker 2: him after all, it was very strange the way they
- 15:09Speaker 2: walked right and knew he was here, and even knew
- 15:11Speaker 2: about the buttons. You remember andrew my sayings that he's business.
- 15:16Speaker 2: He said, very bad odor. I remember it still has
- 15:20Speaker 2: We will know more when we hear where monsieur Dita
- 15:23Speaker 2: has gone and what he does and how will we
- 15:26Speaker 2: hear that I had him follow? Who is it? Mallory?
- 15:42Speaker 2: What are you doing here? I owe you an explanation,
- 15:45Speaker 2: has nothing to explain. It's all over, Go home and
- 15:48Speaker 2: forget it. I want to talk to you. Open up,
- 15:50Speaker 2: I said, forget it. Listen, I may have made a mistake.
- 15:52Speaker 2: I'm not going to mention you on the rough port.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Now leave me alone. Look, can you afford a lot
- 15:57Speaker 2: of noise up here? The concierge, maybe the police? Well,
- 16:02Speaker 2: if you put it that way, come in. Okay, I
- 16:09Speaker 2: was wrong about you. You're still Mallory and you're still smart.
- 16:13Speaker 2: How'd you find ubay? Why? What do you want with me?
- 16:18Speaker 2: And don't give me any of that? I owe you
- 16:20Speaker 2: an explanation. What about the buttons? They weren't the right ones?
- 16:23Speaker 2: Were they? Oh? Whatever would make you think anything like that?
- 16:26Speaker 2: You never would have given them up that easily if
- 16:29Speaker 2: they weren't worthless. Man, you don't make sense. You can
- 16:32Speaker 2: trust me, Peter, I never thought I couldn't. That's a
- 16:36Speaker 2: lie your friends again. Come on, use your head. I
- 16:39Speaker 2: wouldn't have had to be here if they found out
- 16:42Speaker 2: about the buttons and located you. Is there another way out? Sure?
- 16:46Speaker 2: It's Jumpster do in their car coming, Kurt? Where have
- 16:53Speaker 2: you been all over town making sure there was no
- 16:56Speaker 2: one tailing me? Then to the Renaissance and Kolbey told
- 16:59Speaker 2: me about Alorry've come over here. Andy, I've got to
- 17:02Speaker 2: thank you. I don't think we'd have made it without you.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Oh now I owe you an apology, Mari, you have
- 17:07Speaker 2: the button? Yeah, here you are. Andy. I've been kicking
- 17:12Speaker 2: myself ever since I went to your place, but it
- 17:14Speaker 2: did work out and you're in the clear now. Thanks.
- 17:17Speaker 2: I better get going. Mind if I come along, but
- 17:20Speaker 2: not at all, I'll drop you. No, you don't have to,
- 17:22Speaker 2: I'll go all the way. Who you're reporting to? Who
- 17:26Speaker 2: do you think that's wise? Don't worry. I won't take
- 17:29Speaker 2: any credit. I wasn't thinking of that. Well then what
- 17:32Speaker 2: but if you're a seene with me again? Where I'm going?
- 17:35Speaker 2: They might get the idea you're not really retired. We'll
- 17:37Speaker 2: talk about it in the cab. Come on, well, it's
- 17:49Speaker 2: almost like old times. You surely haven't lost your touch,
- 17:53Speaker 2: Andy me. It was Corbey and he's evidently still in business.
- 17:57Speaker 2: His restaurant seems to be doing all right. I wasn't
- 17:59Speaker 2: talking about his restaurant. I was talking about his connections. Well,
- 18:02Speaker 2: I wouldn't know about those four years out of the
- 18:07Speaker 2: service and you're still playing at tide. By the way,
- 18:10Speaker 2: you wouldn't like to bequeath whatever hole you have on
- 18:13Speaker 2: old Courbey to the service, would you to you? Why not?
- 18:17Speaker 2: What have you got on the old man? It could
- 18:19Speaker 2: be almost anything. Covet has been involved in every rocket
- 18:22Speaker 2: in Paris, from smuggling and jewel thoughts to the Black Mark.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Henri Kourbay was the most notorious fence and confidant of
- 18:29Speaker 2: criminals in Paris when World War II broke out. He
- 18:33Speaker 2: was also fifty years old at the time, and that
- 18:36Speaker 2: didn't prevent him from heading up one of the most
- 18:38Speaker 2: effective resistance undergrounds in Paris. Once I saved his life.
- 18:43Speaker 2: A man can almost drown in the sea of gratitude
- 18:46Speaker 2: around Paris these days. Courbet works for you because you
- 18:50Speaker 2: saved his life, and the sie wud take gives old
- 18:52Speaker 2: Cobay a license to steal because he ran a good resistance.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Courbay is not a criminal. Okay? Shall I drop you home?
- 19:00Speaker 2: Don't you think I may still be of some help?
- 19:04Speaker 2: Oh it's all over? But behind you? Well, it's impossible
- 19:10Speaker 2: for a man who takes such care not to be followed.
- 19:12Speaker 2: You certainly file things up, don't you. Kurt? Well, that's
- 19:17Speaker 2: not what are you saying? Were you going to say that?
- 19:21Speaker 2: That isn't the car you expected to follow us if
- 19:24Speaker 2: you flipped your late handy? Tell me you don't recognize
- 19:26Speaker 2: the car, Kurt, it's from headquarters. Tell the driver to
- 19:30Speaker 2: pull over. Andy, let me handle what's to handle. You
- 19:32Speaker 2: don't understand. You've been away from the service for four years.
- 19:35Speaker 2: This is more complicated than you think. Driver, I tell
- 19:38Speaker 2: you stuff. He won't listen to you, will you?
- 19:40Speaker 3: Kurt?
- 19:40Speaker 2: Are you listen to me? Abbie? Please listen to me.
- 19:44Speaker 2: You know the service, you know the department we're in.
- 19:46Speaker 2: We're clerks, mostly reading documents that are about as important
- 19:49Speaker 2: as a purchasing order. And then every once in a while,
- 19:51Speaker 2: the government gives you a chance to get your head
- 19:53Speaker 2: blown off on a mission that's really important to tell
- 19:55Speaker 2: the driver to pull over. Look at you, one louse,
- 19:56Speaker 2: he slipt, one little error and they made you retire. Oh,
- 19:59Speaker 2: I know you didn't want to get out. You're one
- 20:01Speaker 2: of those guys who loved the work and you were
- 20:02Speaker 2: good at it. One lousy slip.
- 20:04Speaker 3: One.
- 20:05Speaker 2: We haven't got time. Look, I'll admit I like to you,
- 20:08Speaker 2: I was lying all the time. This hasn't got anything
- 20:11Speaker 2: to do with bombs and missiles and launching pads, nothing
- 20:13Speaker 2: like that. I wouldn't cross the United States for that,
- 20:15Speaker 2: I swear it. They figured it. He said that that
- 20:18Speaker 2: Cambodia orrel book arrest axis was just a fairy tale.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Corvet's right. There's no weaponry involved, nothing that can hurt us.
- 20:25Speaker 2: All this has to do with is progress on the
- 20:27Speaker 2: development of commercial aircraft, the new supersonic type being developed
- 20:31Speaker 2: by England and France. Just business, Andy, and as a
- 20:33Speaker 2: fortunate and a fortune. And you can have half half
- 20:35Speaker 2: of it yours, Andy, and you earned it. You earned it.
- 20:37Speaker 2: I'll give you just three seconds to tell the driver
- 20:39Speaker 2: to stop, all right, Andy, don't make it any worse.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Kurt put the gun away. Worse you can't get worse now,
- 20:49Speaker 2: and I'll kill you, Andy, I mean it. You're a loser, Kurt.
- 20:53Speaker 2: You were a loser the minutu walked into my apartment. Sure,
- 20:56Speaker 2: I know they set you up just for guys like me.
- 20:59Speaker 2: I know that now well, But you didn't know from
- 21:01Speaker 2: the beginning. I'm the beginning. You're not that good man.
- 21:04Speaker 2: I didn't have to be that good. I knew you
- 21:07Speaker 2: needed me for something by the whole setup, screamed it
- 21:10Speaker 2: at me. But you were so wrapped up and your
- 21:12Speaker 2: tissue of lies that you didn't even bother to check
- 21:14Speaker 2: the phone book. I'm not in the book, Kurt. So
- 21:17Speaker 2: then I called headquarters, even though I'm not working for them,
- 21:19Speaker 2: and I found out what you wanted. That they were
- 21:22Speaker 2: onto you and you had to get the beater, and
- 21:24Speaker 2: you wanted me to locate him. You figured i'd go
- 21:27Speaker 2: to courbet open the door. What you heard me? Open
- 21:30Speaker 2: the door? Oh loo, you look Andy. I can shoot
- 21:33Speaker 2: you and then open the door and push you out,
- 21:34Speaker 2: or you can open the door and jump and take
- 21:36Speaker 2: your chances. I figured they'll stop to see how you are,
- 21:39Speaker 2: and while they're playing humanitarians I'll be gone. I'll open
- 21:42Speaker 2: the door. Driver turned right at the corner, and Andy,
- 21:45Speaker 2: what you're doing?
- 21:46Speaker 3: Give me your arm?
- 22:00Speaker 2: Andrew, my friend. Are you all right? I think so,
- 22:07Speaker 2: take it up a bit. And Monsieur Dempster you can
- 22:10Speaker 2: ask him when he regains consciousness. Oh now I'm going
- 22:15Speaker 2: to go back to my quiet life as an art dealer.
- 22:18Speaker 2: But of course a man with a terrible records such
- 22:22Speaker 2: as yours can never have anything more to do with
- 22:25Speaker 2: the departmand I'll see you at the Renaissance the next

- 24:51Speaker 4: And now let's get back into the show.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Welcome Back, Well Theater five. The way that that series
- 25:03Speaker 1: worked is it really relied on the New York actors base,
- 25:08Speaker 1: which included soap opera actors, up and coming actors from
- 25:14Speaker 1: the theater, and certainly longtime actors from the theater. Star
- 25:19Speaker 1: of Today's program in Ralph Camargo. While he had some
- 25:22Speaker 1: radio appearances and some TV in the nineteen fifties, he
- 25:30Speaker 1: was really best known as a stage actor. You also had,
- 25:34Speaker 1: of course, George Petri in this who starred in a
- 25:38Speaker 1: couple different series. We've already heard called the Police and
- 25:42Speaker 1: the amazing Mister Malone. Overall, I do find it a
- 25:46Speaker 1: pretty fascinating series. Occasionally they'll get some weird scripts in there,
- 25:51Speaker 1: but they did a good job, and they also air
- 25:55Speaker 1: just such a fine variety of audio drama, really working
- 25:59Speaker 1: to fill the gap left by the lack of the
- 26:04Speaker 1: radio drama, kind of trying to provide everything. Lasted about
- 26:09Speaker 1: a year and produced two hundred and sixty episodes, of
- 26:13Speaker 1: which two hundred and fifty six are still in existence. Now,
- 26:17Speaker 1: I hope you've enjoyed this little peaky at them all Right, Well,
- 26:21Speaker 1: that will do it for today. Join us tomorrow for
