- 0:00Speaker 1: I'll take a holiday in in the b web over
- 0:03Speaker 1: an ice hotel. True, sorry, no shriek to the holiday,
- 0:07Speaker 1: and I'll love a free breakfast. Hey, everybody, Welcome to
- 0:27Speaker 1: Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm Megan and
- 0:30Speaker 1: I'm a lifelong Hallmark movie fan.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I'm Wendy and Nice Smell, a news series for Hallmark
- 0:35Speaker 2: movies and mysteries.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Today we're reviewing the cases of Mystery Lane, a new
- 0:41Speaker 1: mystery franchise that originally aired on Sunday, March nineteenth, twenty
- 0:45Speaker 1: twenty three. If you want to connect with us outside
- 0:47Speaker 1: of the podcast, we'd love for you to follow us
- 0:48Speaker 1: on Instagram. Fun things happening there. We are both at
- 0:53Speaker 1: Megan and Wendy and at Girls Gone Hallmark.
- 0:56Speaker 2: That's right. Also join our Facebook group. We just hit
- 0:59Speaker 2: two hundred. I'm luck. I know two hundred does not
- 1:03Speaker 2: sound like a lot of people when there are Hallmark
- 1:05Speaker 2: Facebook groups out there that have like ten thousand, But
- 1:07Speaker 2: I am so happy we've hit this milestone. I love
- 1:12Speaker 2: the people that are over there. It's very engaged, very
- 1:16Speaker 2: passionate people talking about Hallmark movies and actors and did
- 1:19Speaker 2: you see that? And I love it. Girls gone Hallmark
- 1:23Speaker 2: Facebook group. I agree with all of that. Let's talk
- 1:27Speaker 2: some Hallmark news. I've got some ratings info for this
- 1:32Speaker 2: week's movies. Tell me first up, winning team, A winning team.
- 1:36Speaker 1: You're right if you know?
- 1:40Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:41Speaker 1: It was number six in total cable viewers with one
- 1:44Speaker 1: point three seven million viewers. Wow, that's real good. Yeah,
- 1:51Speaker 1: the percentages of the key demo they haven't been doing
- 1:54Speaker 1: as well in but they're getting more viewers than those
- 1:57Speaker 1: with a higher percentage of the demo. And again, this
- 2:00Speaker 1: really gets into like the advertising weeds and how those
- 2:02Speaker 1: numbers shake out. But for me, as an observer who's
- 2:06Speaker 1: not in the game, I'm like, I want to focus
- 2:08Speaker 1: on numbers of people watching because like, screw eighteen to
- 2:10Speaker 1: forty five, Like I'm almost out of that demo and
- 2:12Speaker 1: I matter too. Okay, all right? Next up, for the
- 2:18Speaker 1: Cases of Mystery, Lane had eight hundred and twenty four
- 2:22Speaker 1: thousand live viewers. Now, something Hallmark is doing is they're
- 2:24Speaker 1: airing these movies and mysteries movies a little bit earlier
- 2:27Speaker 1: so they don't overlap with the Way Home. So it's
- 2:30Speaker 1: a little bit of a double edged sword, right, Like
- 2:32Speaker 1: they're not losing viewers because of the Way Home. But
- 2:35Speaker 1: they might be losing viewers by airing it a little
- 2:37Speaker 1: bit early, but I think that's still solid numbers compared
- 2:41Speaker 1: to how movies and mysteries movies have been performing. And finally,
- 2:45Speaker 1: The Way Home continues to do very well, with one
- 2:48Speaker 1: point six million views on episode nine, making it the
- 2:51Speaker 1: most watched non basketball program on cable. Wow, that's more
- 2:56Speaker 1: than a winning team. Indeed, Wow, call it a hit.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I would call it a hit as well.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Last week we talked about the third movie in the
- 3:07Speaker 1: Winter Castle series being made. It is called a winter
- 3:11Speaker 1: Castle Romance. We have stars attached to that movie, Stephen
- 3:13Speaker 1: who'sar who is related to something we're going to talk
- 3:16Speaker 1: about in a moment, and Katie Cassidy. We had originally reported,
- 3:20Speaker 1: per information we received from Sleepy Kitty Pod, that it
- 3:23Speaker 1: wasn't being filmed at the site of the original Ice
- 3:25Speaker 1: Hotel movies, and that was true at the time, but
- 3:28Speaker 1: they have now moved on to a second filming location,
- 3:30Speaker 1: which is the location where the first two movies were filmed.
- 3:34Speaker 1: This is a Christmas movie. You might recall that we
- 3:39Speaker 1: didn't love Maybe It's Cold Inside No and Sleepy Kitty
- 3:43Speaker 1: Pad themselves also called out like this wasn't a hit
- 3:46Speaker 1: for the network, and they positive like why would they
- 3:49Speaker 1: do this? Perhaps the play is maybe it's going to
- 3:52Speaker 1: do better as a Christmas movie in the winter.
- 3:56Speaker 2: First of all, I need to know the backstory of
- 3:58Speaker 2: what happened to their filming location. Did it melt on them?
- 4:02Speaker 1: No? No, no, no no. It wasn't that they like changed
- 4:05Speaker 1: mid course. It was just that as information was coming in,
- 4:07Speaker 1: they got olming somewhere else and now they're at the hotel.
- 4:10Speaker 1: They just have separate famulations.
- 4:12Speaker 2: I think people have this like obsession intrigue about what
- 4:19Speaker 2: it would be like to experience an ice hotel.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Terrible, it would be terrible.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Maybe that's why they continue to make these movies. Sure
- 4:28Speaker 2: not for me, No, thank you. Put me on a
- 4:31Speaker 2: island somewhere.
- 4:33Speaker 1: With a bed not made of ice anywhere. I'll take
- 4:37Speaker 1: a holiday in in the b West over an ice hotel.
- 4:41Speaker 2: True.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Sorry, no shack to the holiday, and I'll love a
- 4:45Speaker 1: free breakfast. Okay, oh boy, you have some news to
- 4:52Speaker 1: share for the people.
- 4:54Speaker 2: If you're not following our Instagram, you should be because
- 4:57Speaker 2: Thursday night we kicked off the first round of the
- 5:02Speaker 2: King of Hallmark. We are crowning the King of Hallmark.
- 5:07Speaker 2: What it is, It's basically like a March Madness bracket,
- 5:10Speaker 2: similar to what we did at Christmas time. We're picking
- 5:13Speaker 2: the King of Hallmark.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Basically.
- 5:17Speaker 2: It's funny because the matchups, while random, a lot of
- 5:22Speaker 2: people are very heated about, you know, some of the
- 5:27Speaker 2: particular matchups. How can we ever choose between Christopher Russell
- 5:32Speaker 2: and Chris Polaha basically those down.
- 5:34Speaker 1: The you know that kind of that is a tough call,
- 5:37Speaker 1: by the way.
- 5:38Speaker 2: So let me just I just like to reiterate that
- 5:41Speaker 2: it was random. We did not purposely match these actors
- 5:45Speaker 2: up against each other. And one of our listeners messaged
- 5:49Speaker 2: me and she's she has a full criteria of how
- 5:52Speaker 2: she's selecting me. I'm just picking who I think is
- 5:55Speaker 2: the hottest.
- 5:56Speaker 1: She had like.
- 5:59Speaker 2: How vul horble they are when they are in a movie,
- 6:03Speaker 2: Like do they act outside of their like box?
- 6:06Speaker 1: So I was like, okay, well it's to each their own.
- 6:09Speaker 2: However, you want to critique these men, how you see
- 6:12Speaker 2: them moving on? Who you want to win? You do? You?
- 6:16Speaker 1: I like that there's some thought put into it, very
- 6:19Speaker 1: much on like first impression.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Boom yeah, I'm like, does it make me feel funny
- 6:23Speaker 2: when I look at his picture?
- 6:24Speaker 1: Yes? I mean if they post a reel, do I
- 6:28Speaker 1: potentially watch it over and over again so that I
- 6:30Speaker 1: don't miss anything?
- 6:31Speaker 2: Do I save it to my personal collection to revisit
- 6:34Speaker 2: at a later time.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Yes, Okay, that's what we're talking about here. Many people
- 6:39Speaker 1: have asked for a lady's bracket, and okay, let me
- 6:44Speaker 1: just say.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Oh, no, woman a woman crime. I don't want to
- 6:46Speaker 2: be moving honest right, Yeah.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Why is it? Why is it that I feel okay
- 6:51Speaker 1: with the dudes, but I feel like we can't do
- 6:53Speaker 1: it with the lady.
- 6:54Speaker 2: I that's a good question. I would love feedback from.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Our listeners on this. Yeah, should we do it? I
- 7:00Speaker 1: just don't you know. I know, I know. At first
- 7:04Speaker 1: I was like, totally would to the ladies, And now
- 7:05Speaker 1: I'm like.
- 7:06Speaker 2: You don't know. Yeah, I don't want people to be
- 7:09Speaker 2: sliding into the DMS being like you are a woman hater,
- 7:13Speaker 2: you are objectifying women. I don't. I don't know unless
- 7:18Speaker 2: we make our own criteria of some but then it
- 7:20Speaker 2: gets way too complicated. I just don't know. Come on
- 7:24Speaker 2: over to our Instagram. We're doing this in the stories.
- 7:29Speaker 2: If you're listening on Friday, you're still gonna be able
- 7:31Speaker 2: to vote in the later rounds, So jump in.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Okay, let's talk the cases of Mystery Lane, and let's
- 7:40Speaker 1: start with a synopsis.
- 7:41Speaker 2: All right, Bertie and Aldam Case find a way to
- 7:44Speaker 2: keep the mystery in their marriage alive literally when the
- 7:48Speaker 2: amateur Sluice are pulled into a murder investigation. Sorry, Amy
- 7:53Speaker 2: Garcia and Paul Campbell.
- 7:56Speaker 1: This movie was written by Joel Dovev and Margot Frowley.
- 7:59Speaker 1: They are new to Hallmark and according to Paul Campbell,
- 8:01Speaker 1: they had originally sold the script to network television, but
- 8:04Speaker 1: it didn't get picked up. The Hallmark bought it. Well done, Hallmark.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Yes, I just followed the writers from our Instagram yesterday.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I think this is their first everything that they've written
- 8:17Speaker 2: as a team. I think individually they are writers as well,
- 8:22Speaker 2: and they're actually real life married people together with the children.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Oh no, you didn't know that, did Yaha? Did not?
- 8:30Speaker 2: Well, there you go. This movie was directed by Mike Roll.
- 8:35Speaker 2: You might remember we mentioned his name at the beginning
- 8:38Speaker 2: of the year. Do you remember, she says no. He
- 8:43Speaker 2: has sixty one directing credits, including tons for Hallmark, not
- 8:47Speaker 2: for Maybe My Dad.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Yes, five episodes of Date My Dad.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Okay, we mentioned him because he is the father of
- 8:54Speaker 2: actress Casey Roll, who played the art student named Lily
- 8:57Speaker 2: in the Wedding Veil Inspiration. Ah, but he's like a
- 9:03Speaker 2: prolific director. Tons of stuff.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Coming back to me now, But yes he did. It's
- 9:08Speaker 1: all good. He did direct five episodes of the twenty
- 9:13Speaker 1: seventeen hit Date My Dad.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Hit. I won't commented any further.
- 9:21Speaker 1: This was filmed in Vancouver but set in Massachusetts, and
- 9:25Speaker 1: some eagle eye viewers looked up the town. I don't
- 9:28Speaker 1: think it's ever called out, but there was some male
- 9:32Speaker 1: that had a zip code on it and they looked
- 9:34Speaker 1: that zip code up and it's Wooster, Massachusetts where this
- 9:38Speaker 1: was seent.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Oh interesting, of course. Paul Campbell, he plays Alden. Case
- 9:43Speaker 2: Campbell gave an interview where he said that he loved
- 9:46Speaker 2: wearing the ridiculous disguises and playing the silly characters in
- 9:50Speaker 2: this movie.
- 9:52Speaker 1: He also said that this was like.
- 9:55Speaker 2: A role he's been waiting for forever.
- 10:00Speaker 1: He said that his dream role will be playing Andy
- 10:03Speaker 1: Samberg's role in Brooklyn ninety nine, so this was his
- 10:06Speaker 1: chance to do something in that vein.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Now, I've never seen Brooklyn ninety nine. I have no
- 10:12Speaker 2: idea like what he is referencing.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I mean, I've seen exactly one episode. It's, you know,
- 10:18Speaker 1: like a goofy send up of a cop show. Okay,
- 10:21Speaker 1: you know, Andy Samberg, you can envision the kind of
- 10:24Speaker 1: copy might play.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Yeah, of course, of course, of course.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Amy Garcia plays Bertie Case in this movie. And Amy
- 10:31Speaker 1: has eighty one acting credits to her name.
- 10:35Speaker 2: She's a complete newcomer Debt to Home.
- 10:38Speaker 1: She so like, she fits right in so perfect. Does
- 10:41Speaker 1: that can't be correct? Yeah, but she's worked quite a bit.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Yes, she was in last year's Netflix holiday movie Christmas
- 10:49Speaker 2: with You with Freddy Binch Junior. She also did eighty
- 10:54Speaker 2: episodes of Lucifer, which is a show I'm not show
- 10:58Speaker 2: you would like that to deal with and the Devil.
- 11:01Speaker 2: You would love that show. Actually, it's great, Okay, And
- 11:04Speaker 2: then she many years on the HBO series Dexter. She
- 11:08Speaker 2: also does a ton of voice work.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I think if she was gonna be in a Hallmark,
- 11:13Speaker 1: she needs to be in the mysteries based on the
- 11:15Speaker 1: kind of character she intends to play. You know what
- 11:18Speaker 1: I mean, Yeah, yeah, I know what you mean.
- 11:19Speaker 2: One small news and note here, Paul Campbell superfan Carolyn Richardson,
- 11:25Speaker 2: also known as Hallmarky's Carolyn three on Instagram and co
- 11:30Speaker 2: host of the Hallmarkys podcast. She started a petition on
- 11:33Speaker 2: change dot org. I will leave in link.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Change dot Org.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I will leave a link in our show notes.
- 11:38Speaker 2: She wants to get Hallmark to commit to turning this
- 11:41Speaker 2: movie into a franchise, And at the time of my
- 11:46Speaker 2: note taking, the petition was at four hundred and eight signatures,
- 11:50Speaker 2: including the one and only Tyler Hines. I shared it.
- 11:55Speaker 2: He shared it on his stories and then when I
- 11:56Speaker 2: went to click through to leave my signature, while I saw.
- 12:00Speaker 1: His pa was on there. I have one final news
- 12:03Speaker 1: and note. Mmmm, that is that Matt Hamilton, who plays
- 12:08Speaker 1: Officer Newton in this episode. Yes, also played Mark Laclark
- 12:13Speaker 1: in Three Wise Men and a Baby Mark lack Clark.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Yes, I knew he looked familiar, but I could not
- 12:21Speaker 2: place him.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Also in our like six Degrees of Hallmark, he was
- 12:25Speaker 1: in the movie North to Home, Oh, among others. Oh,
- 12:29Speaker 1: and he's in the Babysitters Club. Oh, you're real Mark? No,
- 12:34Speaker 1: what's his name?
- 12:35Speaker 2: Mark?
- 12:35Speaker 1: Lea Clark fan. Name is Mark Hamilton, who plays Mark Hamilton. Mark,
- 12:39Speaker 1: you're a big fan, huh, I'll follow him on our
- 12:42Speaker 1: I think for you plays very funny characters. He was
- 12:47Speaker 1: hilarious in this movie. What was your first impression?
- 12:52Speaker 2: I liked this more than the Curious Caterer franchise.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Oh, no mystery here. This is a hit. Yeah, no
- 13:02Speaker 1: mystery here. You're funny.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Love it.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Let's talk about what we liked. I think we've got
- 13:07Speaker 1: another case of spot on casting. Oh for sure. Paul
- 13:12Speaker 1: Campbell is the perfect goofy comedy investigator, as we mentioned,
- 13:18Speaker 1: like after reading his dream role, this is perfect. He's
- 13:23Speaker 1: so good in this role. Amy Garcia is the perfect
- 13:27Speaker 1: matchup as his like more buttoned up, serious focused wife.
- 13:31Speaker 1: I'm taking all my likes. I'm sorry, Like the more
- 13:34Speaker 1: Campbellton role is this? The casting across the board is
- 13:37Speaker 1: so good. The woman who plays the wife, everybody. I
- 13:41Speaker 1: fully believed the assistant as the murderer, Like, at no
- 13:45Speaker 1: point was that like a leap for me to make
- 13:47Speaker 1: so good casting amazing? Okay, did I steal it.
- 13:50Speaker 2: All a little bit, but I'll I'll dive deeper. I
- 13:55Speaker 2: loved Paul Campbell throughout this movie. His dry humor is
- 13:59Speaker 2: where it's at for me. I just love a good, dry,
- 14:05Speaker 2: sarcastic funny man. But I also thought he was fantastic
- 14:12Speaker 2: in some of the vulnerable parts of the script, the
- 14:16Speaker 2: marriage stuff, the figuring out what he wants to do
- 14:20Speaker 2: with his life stuff, when he was saying goodbye to
- 14:25Speaker 2: his treasured robot stuff. I liked him a lot. I
- 14:30Speaker 2: thought he did a perfect job of putting those two
- 14:34Speaker 2: things together. And I'd like to say we saw a
- 14:38Speaker 2: little bit of this character in the Santa Steakout, yes,
- 14:42Speaker 2: but this was like a full lean in, full throttle hair.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Great point. Let me tell you what else I
- 14:48Speaker 1: really liked about this movie.
- 14:50Speaker 2: I love that it was a comedy mystery film, and
- 14:55Speaker 2: I didn't realize like that is a actual particular genre. Sorry,
- 15:00Speaker 2: I wanted to look it up. I needed some more
- 15:02Speaker 2: like examples. So of recent We've Got Knives Out and
- 15:08Speaker 2: Murder Mystery with Jen Aniston and Adam Sandler, those are
- 15:11Speaker 2: considered comedy mystery films. Okay, in the nineties there was
- 15:15Speaker 2: Ace Ventura, which is a little more hijinxy but you know,
- 15:20Speaker 2: and the movie So I Married an Axe Murderer. Ah,
- 15:23Speaker 2: And then in the eighties in the same genre we
- 15:26Speaker 2: had Fletch, Pink, Panther, and Clue. So I'm here for
- 15:31Speaker 2: this genre on Hallmark Movies and mysteries. I really liked it,
- 15:36Speaker 2: especially with Paul Campbell attached, because he is a great
- 15:40Speaker 2: comedic actor. Yeah, and I feel like in that category
- 15:45Speaker 2: of movies, this really like rises to the top. It
- 15:48Speaker 2: certainly is competitive with all those theatrical releases, don't you think. Yes,
- 15:55Speaker 2: I also want to know, and you already talked about her.
- 15:57Speaker 2: I thought Amy Garcia was awesome hiss birth. First of all,
- 16:01Speaker 2: love that name, Bertie. I think it's such a cool name. Yeah,
- 16:05Speaker 2: agree with you that the casting was great for her.
- 16:08Speaker 2: She had great energy and great comedic timing. Yes, And
- 16:12Speaker 2: they would be throwaway lines that were funny, like, for example,
- 16:16Speaker 2: she said something about like killing it or something. She's like,
- 16:20Speaker 2: see what I did there? Like it.
- 16:21Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 16:22Speaker 2: I just really enjoyed her, I thought, I wrote down
- 16:25Speaker 2: initially she's as cute as a button, and then I
- 16:28Speaker 2: looked up her age and she's in her forties, and
- 16:29Speaker 2: I was like, that probably feels offensive to like a
- 16:32Speaker 2: woman in her forties who has worked like she has
- 16:36Speaker 2: uh huh, but she's so cute as a button.
- 16:38Speaker 1: She is. That's not that's not wrong. We learned early
- 16:41Speaker 1: on that at some point Bertie had considered divorcing Alden,
- 16:44Speaker 1: and in spite of that, the relationship is not uncomfortable
- 16:47Speaker 1: to watch. There are some scenes where they're not connecting,
- 16:51Speaker 1: like Alden tries to have a conversation with her as
- 16:53Speaker 1: she's on her way to work. But it feels more
- 16:56Speaker 1: like things that would happen in a real marriage as
- 16:58Speaker 1: opposed to like, does it feel manufactured. It's not like
- 17:04Speaker 1: there are antics to try and convince us there's trouble
- 17:07Speaker 1: in paradise. We can see through the fact that he's
- 17:11Speaker 1: hiding the fact that he's in p high school and
- 17:13Speaker 1: we don't know right away why that is. I thought
- 17:16Speaker 1: that was really well done. I love that we started
- 17:19Speaker 1: with a married couple. Yeah, there's not this like will
- 17:23Speaker 1: they or won't they were there. We get the satisfaction
- 17:27Speaker 1: of their relationship, but they have their own stuff to
- 17:29Speaker 1: work through. And finally, this is a me thing. Sometimes
- 17:34Speaker 1: I get very lost in these Hallmark mysteries, and at
- 17:37Speaker 1: the end I find myself going, I'm sorry, I don't
- 17:39Speaker 1: know what happened or why they did such a nice
- 17:42Speaker 1: job A of weaving the story in a way that
- 17:47Speaker 1: my apparently pea brain can understand, and b of recapping
- 17:53Speaker 1: all of the steps that went into the various crimes
- 17:56Speaker 1: that were committed at the end that I felt very satisfied.
- 18:00Speaker 1: It wasn't like, oh, I need to rewind and figure
- 18:01Speaker 1: out what happened, so brava.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Well you will see here two things that you mentioned
- 18:08Speaker 2: are in my wish for I just have one more
- 18:11Speaker 2: life that I want to share. I thought the writing
- 18:14Speaker 2: was great. Let me give you four examples. Every interaction
- 18:19Speaker 2: between Alden and the air quotes Cop had me laughing
- 18:22Speaker 2: out loud. And it didn't just end once like they
- 18:25Speaker 2: did it throughout the entire movie. I thought it was
- 18:27Speaker 2: so funny Alden's disdain for coworker Kyle and all his
- 18:32Speaker 2: quips about like I'm Kyle and I like to run
- 18:35Speaker 2: five k's for fun, Like every single time I laughed.
- 18:38Speaker 2: I loved it, and I wondered, like, is that writing
- 18:42Speaker 2: or is that Paul Campbell doing that? You know, I
- 18:43Speaker 2: want to know how much extra he brought to it,
- 18:48Speaker 2: just because I think he's phenomenal Alden's disdain for fellow
- 18:55Speaker 2: PI Rick and all their interactions.
- 18:58Speaker 1: I call some glasses.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Yeah at the top, Oh, so you can read, and
- 19:02Speaker 2: like it just was so funny.
- 19:03Speaker 1: And he's so proud of himself too, Like he like
- 19:06Speaker 1: chuckles to himself when he says it.
- 19:08Speaker 2: When Rick saves Alden and he's holding a gun on
- 19:13Speaker 2: Paula and he's like, dropped that turkey baster, it was
- 19:17Speaker 2: like the perfect beat, Like it was great. Yes, And
- 19:22Speaker 2: finally when the FBI agent busts Alden and Bertie and
- 19:30Speaker 2: he finally lets them go, he tells Alden he should
- 19:32Speaker 2: stick to Reddit, and I almost died.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Yes, thank you for saying that someone who loves Reddit.
- 19:40Speaker 1: I was like, yes, I had read it in my
- 19:43Speaker 1: notes and I just wrote read it because that's the
- 19:45Speaker 1: kind of terrible note taker I am. And I couldn't
- 19:47Speaker 1: remember the line. I just remembered laughing out loud. So
- 19:49Speaker 1: thank you for that. I would also like to point out,
- 19:52Speaker 1: in addition to the writing, the fact that Paul Campbell's
- 19:54Speaker 1: character Alden is a failed cryptocurrency investor just kidding.
- 20:01Speaker 2: And if you've noticed, like in the garage where his
- 20:06Speaker 2: work who his work area was like there was all
- 20:09Speaker 2: these kind of like nuggets of like what it looked
- 20:12Speaker 2: like he has done in the past. There was just
- 20:15Speaker 2: one area that had all these like rolled up papers
- 20:17Speaker 2: and now I don't know what that has any relevance too,
- 20:20Speaker 2: like what he does out there, but I just there
- 20:23Speaker 2: was like I was like, Oh, that's his man cave. Yes,
- 20:26Speaker 2: that's his workstation.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Yeah. And I liked that they didn't try and like
- 20:30Speaker 1: glorify like they show them opening and closing the garage
- 20:33Speaker 1: door a multiple points, Like I just was like, yes,
- 20:38Speaker 1: this is a garage. Floor was stained. I don't know
- 20:40Speaker 1: if you noticed this that I.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Didn't notice the floor stained. No, it's a garage, all right.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Let me talk about what I wished for. Yeah, and
- 20:49Speaker 2: it's on two subjects that you kind of bumped on.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Okay.
- 20:52Speaker 2: The first one is I wish I had a better
- 20:54Speaker 2: understanding up top why Birdie would have drawn up divorce
- 20:58Speaker 2: papers like when he finds them at her desk. I
- 21:02Speaker 2: felt like it was kind of out of nowhere. It
- 21:05Speaker 2: might have just been a me thing. Did I miss
- 21:07Speaker 2: the whole like that she was upset with them that.
- 21:10Speaker 1: No, they she lost all their money at But I
- 21:12Speaker 1: feel like, you know, that's funny. I liked it. I
- 21:16Speaker 1: was like, oh, there's trouble in paradise.
- 21:18Speaker 2: There was nothing that, like, there were no clues that
- 21:20Speaker 2: they were unhappy in their marriage, with the exception of
- 21:23Speaker 2: like he got up and made her breakfast and she
- 21:26Speaker 2: like bounced, But that to me, I thought it was
- 21:29Speaker 2: more of he was jealous of Kyle the coworker. So
- 21:33Speaker 2: I didn't really see like there was like trouble in
- 21:36Speaker 2: paradise between them.
- 21:37Speaker 1: But I think that is the point, is that he
- 21:40Speaker 1: didn't know either.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Mmm. Good point.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Yeah, good point.
- 21:45Speaker 2: And I appreciate that they tell us why at the end,
- 21:49Speaker 2: like what had happened there and why she did that
- 21:51Speaker 2: and what she was upset with, and they had a
- 21:54Speaker 2: very adult conversation about it. Mm hmm. For me, the
- 21:57Speaker 2: story gets a little complicated midway through when they're trying
- 22:01Speaker 2: to figure out how the mob guy and the co
- 22:03Speaker 2: worker are connected, and then you add Paula on top
- 22:06Speaker 2: of that. But I agree with you that they did
- 22:08Speaker 2: a really good job at like reminding the viewers here,
- 22:12Speaker 2: this is what we're working with. It perfectly tied into
- 22:15Speaker 2: like their murder board and all that stuff.
- 22:17Speaker 1: So that's all I've had wished for. My only wish
- 22:20Speaker 1: is something you already bumped on, and that this needs
- 22:22Speaker 1: to be a series. It was set up perfectly to
- 22:24Speaker 1: be a series. It stands alone. But I think the
- 22:28Speaker 1: way they set it up now they're gonna work together
- 22:31Speaker 1: a little bit, and they've got this whole like mob situation.
- 22:35Speaker 1: I feel like it lends.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Itself to quite a few stories to tell, right, Okay,
- 22:39Speaker 2: so did you have any digite that's I didn't I have.
- 22:43Speaker 2: I have a couple, but they're mostly just commentary.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Okay.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Throughout the movie, the number of snacks all then eats
- 22:49Speaker 2: while he's doing surveillance. I feel seen.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Because again, super relatable. I would have totally done the
- 22:56Speaker 1: whole thing.
- 22:56Speaker 2: And it was just like one thing after another, Burger fries,
- 22:59Speaker 2: chips Like I was like, yeah, yeah, I loved it,
- 23:02Speaker 2: loved it, loved it, loved it. Tell me how old
- 23:05Speaker 2: that Kia is he's driving because it has a key ignition. Oh,
- 23:10Speaker 2: it wasn't that old of a vehicle, and made me
- 23:12Speaker 2: wonder this Kia's the car brand? Do they actually have
- 23:17Speaker 2: key ignition still instead of a push button? Anyway, several
- 23:21Speaker 2: times he took the key out of the ignition and
- 23:24Speaker 2: then when he tries to like drive away, he's like
- 23:26Speaker 2: fumbling to put the key in the ignition. I was like,
- 23:28Speaker 2: why are you just first of all, if it has
- 23:30Speaker 2: a key ignition, just leave the key in the cognition,
- 23:32Speaker 2: don't take it out.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Yeah. Anyway, it was just funny.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Free more things, Okay, the old lady with the gun. Yeah,
- 23:40Speaker 2: when she like cocks the gun and then gives him
- 23:42Speaker 2: a wink. I loved it, loved it, loved it, loved it.
- 23:46Speaker 1: That's so funny. It made me so nervous. I'm like,
- 23:48Speaker 1: that's a big gun. I don't like guns, Like I
- 23:52Speaker 1: don't want them averring.
- 23:54Speaker 2: I totally agree with that, but it was just so funny.
- 23:57Speaker 1: She was like, oh, but we felt like a a
- 24:01Speaker 1: very strong statement for that little old lady. That big
- 24:03Speaker 1: gun I was to be like a pistol, like a
- 24:06Speaker 1: like an old timey pistol. She's like got a ghack
- 24:11Speaker 1: with little smith and wesson with its like little grooved.
- 24:15Speaker 1: You know what I'm talking about.
- 24:16Speaker 2: I do know what you're talking about.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Something from Back to the Future Part three, mm hmm, okay.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Two more things.
- 24:22Speaker 2: The coffee maker. Now, didn't we see this like exact
- 24:26Speaker 2: coffee maker in a movie recently where they were like
- 24:29Speaker 2: a steamer.
- 24:30Speaker 1: And all that.
- 24:31Speaker 2: I swear it's the exact same coffee maker. It was
- 24:33Speaker 2: like the same color. I don't remember which movie it
- 24:36Speaker 2: wasn't it might have been a wedding veil movie.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Oh, where she couldn't.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Get the coffee the Italian coffee maker to work without
- 24:44Speaker 2: her husband. Yeah, I could just be putting the two
- 24:47Speaker 2: and two things together. Anyway, nice coffeemaker for like.
- 24:50Speaker 1: As well, she's an attorney.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Fair And finally when they go to the apartment buildings
- 24:56Speaker 2: and he's dressed up as the pizza guy with his
- 25:00Speaker 2: and he presses the buzzer and he has this crazy
- 25:02Speaker 2: like she accent. Well they're in Massachusetts, right, mm hmmm.
- 25:07Speaker 1: And I was like, that's funny.
- 25:08Speaker 2: There's nobody has like a definitive, like thank goodness accent.
- 25:12Speaker 2: And she goes, this is exactly what I thought, what
- 25:15Speaker 2: accent are you doing? And in my head I said,
- 25:18Speaker 2: Kevin McGary, Oh no, all Gamble's doing a bad accent
- 25:24Speaker 2: of Kevin McGary's bad accent.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Anyway, Anyway, highly enjoyable movie. Well let's rate it, okay,
- 25:33Speaker 1: I think you might be surprised.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Okay, you go first, five stars, no gas Ooh, I
- 25:39Speaker 2: gave it four point seven five just because I got
- 25:42Speaker 2: a little bit mixed up in the middle and had
- 25:44Speaker 2: to rewind it a couple times to figure out, like
- 25:47Speaker 2: the who they were talking about. Sure anyway, very much enjoyed,
- 25:51Speaker 2: very very very much enjoyed.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Cool. Hey, thanks for listening to this episode of Girls
