- 0:01Speaker 1: Wave.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:13Speaker 2: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:15Speaker 2: get your podcasts. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:19Speaker 2: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:21Speaker 2: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:25Speaker 2: a hater. We're going to talk about who's going to
- 0:27Speaker 2: win or who better win the East in a few minutes.
- 0:30Speaker 2: But first, we're going to talk about who did not
- 0:33Speaker 2: win the East. I know, again, Ryan, this feels like
- 0:37Speaker 2: we societally are just being negative as a culture by
- 0:40Speaker 2: immediately going there. But the Celtics, What a way to
- 0:45Speaker 2: go out.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Right.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I can't even go.
- 0:48Speaker 2: As far as I want because this is an EPMD line.
- 0:50Speaker 2: My brothers say all the time, what a way to
- 0:52Speaker 2: go out, out like a sucker. And I don't think
- 0:55Speaker 2: that they went out like suckers.
- 0:58Speaker 4: Right.
- 0:58Speaker 2: That is not fair. They did go out with a
- 1:02Speaker 2: starting lineup that had Rod Harper Jr., Baylor, what's his name?
- 1:09Speaker 2: And did he start Luka Garza?
- 1:13Speaker 5: Luka Garza started.
- 1:14Speaker 1: No, Luka Garza, who is a very.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Wow, he's in the league. You know what I mean?
- 1:21Speaker 2: Remember, our question was about whether or not, because he
- 1:23Speaker 2: was such a good college player, as to whether or
- 1:25Speaker 2: not he's an NBA player. And I have no idea
- 1:28Speaker 2: if he's an NBA player. I just know he's been
- 1:30Speaker 2: on an NBA team, and he is on the NBA
- 1:34Speaker 2: team that has great value in somebody looking like him
- 1:38Speaker 2: wearing a warm-up suit. Just like they got old boy
- 1:42Speaker 2: Gonzalez that's out there.
- 1:44Speaker 1: And I know they took him in the first round.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I'm just saying, I know how the Celtics have operated
- 1:49Speaker 2: over time. They need you to fill out that white
- 1:53Speaker 2: warmup suit in a certain way. Like a few guys
- 1:56Speaker 2: got to do that. If you're not going to play,
- 1:58Speaker 2: people got to be happy to choose a round. Look
- 2:00Speaker 2: how much money Brian Scalabrini done made.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Off of that. You understand what I'm saying? Not that
- 2:03Speaker 1: he couldn't hoop.
- 2:04Speaker 2: But anyway, I ain't know Luka Garza got to, like,
- 2:07Speaker 2: get on the floor unless, you know, everything was under control.
- 2:12Speaker 1: And 0-0?
- 2:14Speaker 5: Game seven?
- 2:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Like, I don't think Luka Garza ever again thought that
- 2:17Speaker 2: he would ever be able to play in a tie game.
- 2:22Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
- 2:22Speaker 2: Like a game where he was doing anything other than
- 2:25Speaker 2: making people feel good?
- 2:26Speaker 5: Not the human victory cigar?
- 2:28Speaker 1: Never dawned on him. Not one time.
- 2:31Speaker 2: But the Celtics... Look, the thing with the Celtics is...
- 2:35Speaker 2: I said this about Denver last week, where I think
- 2:38Speaker 2: in some ways we misunderstood what the window was. The
- 2:41Speaker 2: window really opened in 2021 when they got Aaron Gordon,
- 2:44Speaker 2: but the problem was Jamal Murray tore his ACL and
- 2:47Speaker 2: missed the next two postseasons. But that was in the window, right?
- 2:51Speaker 2: And before the window closed, they won in 2023. And
- 2:56Speaker 2: then the next year, I also thought that they were
- 2:57Speaker 2: going to win. But hey, a couple of moves made
- 2:59Speaker 2: the team a bit worse. And I think maybe part
- 3:01Speaker 2: of what we got here is that the margins... on
- 3:05Speaker 2: the changes that happened to your team have gotten a
- 3:08Speaker 2: lot tighter and a little change can make you a
- 3:11Speaker 2: lot worse relative to your peers than you were.
- 3:15Speaker 1: And Boston had those.
- 3:17Speaker 2: And that's before we talk about the Jason Tatum of
- 3:20Speaker 2: it all, right? Drew Holiday does not play for them anymore, right? Ryan,
- 3:26Speaker 2: correct me if I'm wrong. They got Drew Holiday out
- 3:29Speaker 2: of there and they got Anthony Simons back. Like those
- 3:32Speaker 2: are the parts that matter. And then- They traded Anthony
- 3:35Speaker 2: Simons to get Vucevic, who did not play in game seven.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Right. With Joel Embiid back, by the way, right? You
- 3:45Speaker 1: put Luka Garza on the floor.
- 3:50Speaker 2: And you told Vucevic, hey, no need for you to
- 3:52Speaker 2: put on the white socks. You could keep the ones
- 3:57Speaker 2: on that you wore to the arena or maybe not wear.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Any at all. It's your decision.
- 4:05Speaker 2: That's where they were. And they, look, they got smoked
- 4:07Speaker 2: off the top. It turned into a very good game
- 4:10Speaker 2: by the time it got to the end.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Embiid, man. Look, Embiid is always hurt.
- 4:14Speaker 2: You can make that argument, but you can't say he's
- 4:17Speaker 2: not tough.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Right.
- 4:19Speaker 5: Right?
- 4:19Speaker 2: Like, he gets out there and, you know, maybe he
- 4:22Speaker 2: Maybe he plays up a little bit some of this, right?
- 4:25Speaker 1: He janky as hell though, boy. He is the, he
- 4:28Speaker 1: out there like a wrestler.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Like I was talking to somebody and I was like,
- 4:31Speaker 2: he do all that Ric Flair shit where like he
- 4:33Speaker 2: throws you to the ground and act like you hit
- 4:35Speaker 2: him in the face. Right. Or like once he knows
- 4:38Speaker 2: he's going to be going down or whatever reason, he's
- 4:40Speaker 2: there to get somebody else along the way. He's also
- 4:44Speaker 2: an awesome basketball player, an awesome basketball player. And I
- 4:49Speaker 2: think I saw Michael Wilbon trying to make this point.
- 4:51Speaker 2: And I don't think he was making it by the NBA.
- 4:53Speaker 1: He missed it.
- 4:53Speaker 2: He was talking about how big man typically don't shoot
- 4:56Speaker 2: free throws well, but he's an 85 percent free throw
- 4:58Speaker 2: shooter who, if I am not mistaken, is the NBA
- 5:01Speaker 2: all time leader in free throws made per game. Like
- 5:06Speaker 2: he is, he's that guy in so many ways. He
- 5:10Speaker 2: just also has never played 70 games in an NBA season.
- 5:14Speaker 1: He never has. I have forgotten he was there, right?
- 5:18Speaker 2: Like, I knew he had the appendix thing, but I
- 5:19Speaker 2: felt like it was always something else. Like, you can't
- 5:22Speaker 2: count on him, and we can talk about what the
- 5:23Speaker 2: future is or whatever it is.
- 5:24Speaker 1: But, like, he got it done in this game.
- 5:26Speaker 2: And then Tyrese Maxey, like, look, the Sixers have made
- 5:30Speaker 2: the decision that they're going to put their future in
- 5:33Speaker 2: the hands of Maxey and now Vijay Edgecombe, right? Maxey
- 5:38Speaker 2: obviously has two problems that if you listen to me,
- 5:40Speaker 2: you know that I find to be very important, right?
- 5:43Speaker 2: One of them, small guard. Number two, he from Dallas.
- 5:47Speaker 2: And if you go, like, just follow somebody from Dallas
- 5:50Speaker 2: and say, hey, take me wherever you lead us, I
- 5:52Speaker 2: personally wouldn't do that. You're going to wind up somewhere
- 5:56Speaker 2: getting a shag haircut doing shit like that.
- 5:59Speaker 1: I'm just telling you, I would not recommend that. But anyway,
- 6:03Speaker 1: to the Celtics of it all, Ryan, I think it's fair.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Jason Tatum, we've seen the best of what he would be.
- 6:11Speaker 5: Most likely, yes.
- 6:13Speaker 2: It is possible that what happened here, we wound up
- 6:16Speaker 2: with a calf injury on the other leg.
- 6:19Speaker 1: If it ain't one thing, it's another.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Like I saw a quote where Elton Brand said, the
- 6:22Speaker 2: thing about coming back from an Achilles is everything else
- 6:24Speaker 2: breaks down after that, right? Like your body does all
- 6:27Speaker 2: the compensating and then everything else.
- 6:29Speaker 5: Especially if you sprint back like Jason Tatum did.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:33Speaker 2: And he also has a very physically demanding game. All
- 6:34Speaker 2: them step backs and all this other stuff. Like at 27,
- 6:39Speaker 2: I guess he is now. he's had a Hall of
- 6:43Speaker 2: Fame career as it stands. It's not going to be
- 6:46Speaker 2: this good again, in all likelihood. Derek White does not
- 6:50Speaker 2: appear to be the player that he was two years ago.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Imagine watching Derek White in this series and somebody telling
- 6:56Speaker 2: you that he was on the Olympic team.
- 6:59Speaker 5: A crucial part of the Olympic team where Jason Tatum
- 7:01Speaker 5: was on the bench.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Jason Tatum was not playing, right?
- 7:03Speaker 2: Needing lots of, like, minutes that matter from Peyton Pritchard,
- 7:08Speaker 2: but in a circumstance where teams can now actually plan
- 7:11Speaker 2: for him, right? Or, like, have something to do to
- 7:14Speaker 2: deal with him when it comes up. Like, all these
- 7:16Speaker 2: things are going on. All I'm saying is this is
- 7:19Speaker 2: a far cry from the team of 2024. Like, this
- 7:21Speaker 2: team does not have Kristaps Porzingis. For example, it seems
- 7:24Speaker 2: to not have Drew Holiday. It seems to not have
- 7:27Speaker 2: healthy Jason Tatum. The window probably a bit shut down.
- 7:31Speaker 2: And on top of that, their best player sat his
- 7:35Speaker 2: ass up on a live stream and said that this
- 7:39Speaker 2: was the most fun season that he's ever had because
- 7:42Speaker 2: he got to be.
- 7:42Speaker 1: The number one option.
- 7:44Speaker 2: A totally understandable outlook. I get where you're coming from, right?
- 7:50Speaker 2: His ambitions have been to be the number one option
- 7:53Speaker 2: on a team, and he has always been, at most,
- 7:56Speaker 2: one beat. Right? But you don't say that after y'all
- 8:03Speaker 2: lost in the first round.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Are you supposed to be a champion?
- 8:06Speaker 5: You don't get up at your house, turn the live
- 8:10Speaker 5: stream camera on, start pulling up clips like he's breaking
- 8:16Speaker 5: down the Zapruder film.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Well, why are you doing this at all?
- 8:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Right.
- 8:22Speaker 5: Let's show him how to do this.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Right.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Let's start there. Why are you doing this at all?
- 8:27Speaker 2: And look, the stuff he was talking about with flopping
- 8:30Speaker 2: and everything else.
- 8:31Speaker 1: A big dog. I hear you.
- 8:32Speaker 2: And nobody really wants to hear you whine about that.
- 8:35Speaker 2: But we'd much rather hear you whine about that. Then, man,
- 8:39Speaker 2: being the number one bet, being the man was great.
- 8:40Speaker 2: I mean, the season was kind of bomb.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Dog, ain't nobody trying to hear that out of.
- 8:44Speaker 2: You at this point. Then, you know, I, you know,
- 8:49Speaker 2: I feel about Missoula. I find him to be very,
- 8:51Speaker 2: very interesting. Missoula sat after the game and said that
- 8:55Speaker 2: he felt just as empty after winning a championship as
- 8:58Speaker 2: he does after a loss. And I'm like, oh, buddy,
- 9:01Speaker 2: what what kind of environment do you guys have going
- 9:05Speaker 2: on over here? He's very reasonable when he talks about
- 9:08Speaker 2: how you got to dedicate yourself to the process.
- 9:10Speaker 1: That's the good and the bad of Joe Mazzulla.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Joe Mazzulla coaches NBA basketball very similar to Dean Smith, where, hey,
- 9:16Speaker 2: we just execute, we'll be fine.
- 9:18Speaker 1: And what if what you're doing isn't working? Then we're
- 9:21Speaker 1: going to start executing, damn it.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Right? The plan doesn't ever change. There's never a, hey,
- 9:25Speaker 2: we've missed all these threes. Why don't we go get
- 9:26Speaker 2: an easy bucket right fast? That's not what they do.
- 9:31Speaker 2: That's not what they do.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Just keep shooting up. Just keep chucking up threes. The
- 9:33Speaker 1: game is close late. They're down one. They're down three.
- 9:35Speaker 1: They're chucking threes.
- 9:37Speaker 5: They're down one and Peyton Pritchard is chucking a three.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Guys that shouldn't even be allowed to shoot in a
- 9:44Speaker 2: moment like this.
- 9:45Speaker 1: They're still out here shooting threes. Like all I'm saying
- 9:48Speaker 1: is because of Tatum and Brown.
- 9:50Speaker 2: It felt like they were the same team. And I
- 9:53Speaker 2: had them as a team that's going to walk through
- 9:56Speaker 2: the way through the east obviously this was incorrect this
- 10:00Speaker 2: wasn't it because they weren't The same team. Like, you
- 10:04Speaker 2: realize how ridiculous I feel realizing I picked a team
- 10:08Speaker 2: to win the East that was out here giving real
- 10:12Speaker 2: minutes to Baylor Shireman? And I'll be honest, I almost
- 10:16Speaker 2: called him Bailey because it seemed like his name should
- 10:18Speaker 2: be Bailey. Sam Houser out here playing 30 minutes. That
- 10:22Speaker 2: boy Queda, number 88. He out here getting 33 minutes
- 10:28Speaker 2: in a playoff game.
- 10:31Speaker 1: I thought.
- 10:34Speaker 2: I thought the team that was doing this, a team that, again,
- 10:37Speaker 2: put Luka Garza out here in a game seven to start.
- 10:39Speaker 2: And by the way, Ryan, in Luka Garza's nine minutes,
- 10:42Speaker 2: they were a minus 15. I will also note that
- 10:48Speaker 2: in Jalen Brown's 40 minutes, they were a minus 16.
- 10:52Speaker 5: Starting lineup, game seven, never played together.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that was for a man that seems like rigidly
- 11:00Speaker 2: dedicated to habit and process.
- 11:03Speaker 5: Rigidly dedicated, period.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:06Speaker 2: He sure picked a hell of a time to like
- 11:10Speaker 2: throw this thing, like throw it all out of whack.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Although I'm looking at the rest of it. If you
- 11:15Speaker 2: had a better idea, I'd love to know what it is.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Like if you have decided that Vucevic is unplayable.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Like, okay, maybe you throw Quaid out. Like, what's the difference?
- 11:23Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:24Speaker 2: I guess is the question. We haven't even talked about
- 11:26Speaker 2: the fact that it's a 3-1 lead that they blew. No,
- 11:30Speaker 2: this team was just, they overachieved in the regular season.
- 11:35Speaker 2: And they just ain't really have what it takes at
- 11:37Speaker 2: this point because the window's probably closed.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Right? Maybe they're in a position, I don't know where
- 11:44Speaker 1: they stand with the aprons or whatever.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Right?
- 11:46Speaker 1: Oh, it was a knee issue for Tatum, not a calf.
- 11:49Speaker 1: My apology. Um, But.
- 11:52Speaker 2: What are they supposed to do at this point? Like,
- 11:55Speaker 2: what is the next move? This is the same thing
- 11:57Speaker 2: that happened with Denver. That window closed and you looked
- 12:01Speaker 2: up and eat away at the margins just a little bit. Now,
- 12:06Speaker 2: they were out there with Eric Gordon hurt, Peyton Watson hurt.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Those weren't small things, right?
- 12:14Speaker 2: The guys that made it possible for you to play
- 12:17Speaker 2: the way you do with Jokic because those guys play
- 12:19Speaker 2: defense weren't able to get out there and play defense.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Okay, that mattered. That was the thing. Jokic, probably a
- 12:27Speaker 1: bit banged up.
- 12:29Speaker 2: And I have seen, I think it's Jake Shapiro who
- 12:32Speaker 2: covers the Nuggets. I don't know if you saw this
- 12:34Speaker 2: on Twitter. Apparently there are questions there, not just about
- 12:38Speaker 2: their head coach, whom I do not think should be
- 12:40Speaker 2: their head coach, But, right, apparently they sound a lot
- 12:44Speaker 2: like the New Orleans, is it the Pelicans?
- 12:46Speaker 1: They had the Saints. Are they sharing training facilities? No,
- 12:51Speaker 1: but they got medical problems.
- 12:53Speaker 5: Yeah, got it.
- 12:55Speaker 1: There's questions about the medical staff.
- 12:57Speaker 2: And these guys continue to suffer like soft tissue injuries
- 13:00Speaker 2: and the likes.
- 13:01Speaker 5: You know, which is always frustrating when the owner of
- 13:05Speaker 5: your team owns.
- 13:06Speaker 1: A football team.
- 13:08Speaker 5: And also owns Wal-Mart.
- 13:10Speaker 1: He does own Walmart. He owns a lot of stuff.
- 13:13Speaker 5: He owns a lot of stuff.
- 13:13Speaker 1: No, no, no. He married into Walmart.
- 13:15Speaker 5: Married into Walmart. But still has Walmart money.
- 13:17Speaker 1: He has the keys.
- 13:18Speaker 5: Yes.
- 13:19Speaker 1: How about that, right? He has the keys.
- 13:21Speaker 5: That's right.
- 13:22Speaker 1: And Walmart owns the football team there.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:24Speaker 1: That actual Walmart.
- 13:26Speaker 2: I would love to know how the real Walmart feels
- 13:29Speaker 2: about that Walmart.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Like, are you familiar with Bud's?
- 13:34Speaker 5: You're going to be more... I am not.
- 13:35Speaker 1: So Bud's is a.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Like a warehouse-style big box store?
- 13:42Speaker 5: Got it, yeah.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Okay.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Do you know what the arena at Arkansas, the basketball
- 13:47Speaker 2: arena is called?
- 13:48Speaker 5: It's not called the Bud's Dome. It's Bud Walton Arena.
- 13:52Speaker 5: Got it.
- 13:52Speaker 1: It's Sam Walton's brother, Bud.
- 13:55Speaker 5: Got it.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Which is to say, I feel like Stan Kroenke is
- 13:59Speaker 1: kind of the Buds.
- 14:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought we were going to make a Sam's
- 14:03Speaker 5: Club joke.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yeah, with Sam's Club.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:07Speaker 1: And then Buds.
- 14:08Speaker 5: Got it.
- 14:09Speaker 1: At his club, like Sam's. Yeah. There we go. Anyway,
- 14:14Speaker 1: people ask questions about their medical staff.
- 14:17Speaker 2: But their window, Aaron Gordon is 12 years in the
- 14:20Speaker 2: league now.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Right. Jokic was drafted the same year as Aaron Gordon.
- 14:23Speaker 2: It's 11 years in the league, but still we're talking
- 14:25Speaker 2: about 12. Jamal Murray, he's not young either. I want
- 14:29Speaker 2: to say Jamal Murray has been in the league for
- 14:31Speaker 2: 10 years now.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Right. I want to say he, like it's somewhere right
- 14:35Speaker 1: in that range. Not his window. Low key kind of close.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Now, again, maybe it would have been a little different,
- 14:43Speaker 2: you know, if they'd had those guys healthy that made
- 14:46Speaker 2: things different in the margins. Jokic paying the price for it, boy,
- 14:49Speaker 2: the internet. Can we be honest about this? The Jokic
- 14:55Speaker 2: arguments after they lost in game six were not arguments
- 14:59Speaker 2: about Jokic. It was people being sick and tired of
- 15:03Speaker 2: a particular class of dork. And the dork backlash just
- 15:08Speaker 2: came flooding in.
- 15:11Speaker 1: And here's what happened.
- 15:14Speaker 2: What happened was Jokic had put up a statistical profile
- 15:20Speaker 2: that was like Wilt Chamberlain-esque in sum total, right? Like
- 15:25Speaker 2: once you got to the advanced part, we'd never seen
- 15:27Speaker 2: anybody that was putting up those numbers like that.
- 15:30Speaker 1: And if you watched it, he was incredible to watch.
- 15:33Speaker 2: The problem was the people who get really wedded to
- 15:39Speaker 2: stats and numbers when making these decisions are ignoring that historically,
- 15:46Speaker 2: We've always made team success a very significant variable in
- 15:52Speaker 2: this discussion. It's the whole reason why nobody says Wilt
- 15:57Speaker 2: Chamberlain was the greatest basketball player of all time. Though
- 16:00Speaker 2: I guarantee you, if I pulled up some clips of
- 16:02Speaker 2: Wilt Chamberlain, you'd never believe that anybody was ever better
- 16:06Speaker 2: at basketball than that guy was, especially relative to his peers, right?
- 16:11Speaker 2: So Jokic, this is the point that Nick used to
- 16:14Speaker 2: make all the time. Like, sorry, maybe I'm just not
- 16:17Speaker 2: trying to call this guy one of the 10 best
- 16:18Speaker 2: players ever before he actually wins a championship. I think
- 16:22Speaker 2: the way it was put, though, was like, maybe I'm
- 16:24Speaker 2: not trying to give him a third MVP until he
- 16:26Speaker 2: wins a championship. And those are things that should have
- 16:29Speaker 2: been left separate from one another. But his general point
- 16:32Speaker 2: was correct.
- 16:33Speaker 1: People got way over their skis before Jokic.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Actually had the pelt on the wall that matters, right?
- 16:40Speaker 2: And by the way, the pelt on the wall, then
- 16:41Speaker 2: I think that matters to Jokic, right? But Jokic talks
- 16:44Speaker 2: about when they lose, if this is Serbia, everybody would
- 16:46Speaker 2: get fired.
- 16:48Speaker 1: He gets it. He understands what the point is.
- 16:51Speaker 2: But the joy that people took almost when Jokic and
- 16:55Speaker 2: them lost, it was simply back at the dorks. Because
- 17:00Speaker 2: think about this. It is one thing to have a
- 17:04Speaker 2: widespread argument about who is better, LeBron James or Michael Jordan,
- 17:11Speaker 2: or to have a widespread argument about who's better, LeBron
- 17:16Speaker 2: James or Kobe Bryant or Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain
- 17:20Speaker 2: or a host of others, even if you want to
- 17:22Speaker 2: say Charles Barkley and Karl Malone, Dirk Nowitzki and Kevin Garnett, right?
- 17:29Speaker 1: It makes sense to have arguments in that fashion.
- 17:33Speaker 2: A widespread argument about whether somebody falls between three and
- 17:39Speaker 2: 10 on the all-time list is the most internet contrived
- 17:44Speaker 2: nonsense in the history of all time. Does a person
- 17:49Speaker 2: fall into a range? That's not really an argument. You
- 17:56Speaker 2: understand what I'm saying? But the issue came down to,
- 18:00Speaker 2: it seemed very clear that a group of people had
- 18:03Speaker 2: adopted a new set of rules to adopt the player
- 18:07Speaker 2: that they really like watching at this particular point in time.
- 18:16Speaker 1: And then when that dude came.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Up short, as just about every great player has come
- 18:21Speaker 2: up short at one point in another, as he came
- 18:24Speaker 2: up short, Ryan, him coming up short in that series
- 18:26Speaker 2: reminded me of when Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks lost
- 18:29Speaker 2: in 07. But the difference was, They had blown that
- 18:33Speaker 2: 2-0 lead the year before, where it was almost about
- 18:37Speaker 2: to be 3-0 before I think it was Gary Payton
- 18:39Speaker 2: hit that shot in game three. And then they blew
- 18:42Speaker 2: that series, and then they came back, and Dirk was
- 18:45Speaker 2: the MVP, and they lost in the first round to
- 18:47Speaker 2: an eight seed. Right? But Dirk didn't have the receipt yet.
- 18:53Speaker 5: Right.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Jokic has it. And it's just a fight about us.
- 18:59Speaker 2: It ain't got nothing to do with him. And it
- 19:00Speaker 2: got nothing actual factual to do with basketball. It's not
- 19:04Speaker 2: like he's a dude for people to be upset with
- 19:06Speaker 2: or anything. No, people got sick and tired of these
- 19:09Speaker 2: fucking dorks. And the collateral damage was the guy who
- 19:14Speaker 2: quite honestly seems less like one of those dorks than
- 19:17Speaker 2: anybody I could think of. The guy from Sombor.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I wonder if Sombor got dorks. You know what I'm saying? Like,
- 19:28Speaker 1: that's what I would love to see.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Jokic's brothers hanging out with his biggest fans on the internet. Like,
- 19:35Speaker 2: what in the world would those guys talk about when
- 19:39Speaker 2: they were all in the same place?
- 19:41Speaker 1: But the truth is.
- 19:42Speaker 5: Why are you calling me a vorp, you know?
- 19:44Speaker 1: Right, right, right. But for them, what are they going
- 19:46Speaker 1: to do?
- 19:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:47Speaker 1: What are they going to do? And so what I
- 19:48Speaker 1: think we've seen happen... and i think we talked about
- 19:51Speaker 1: this on this show like look the repeat era is
- 19:54Speaker 1: kind of janky i talked about this alfonso show over
- 19:56Speaker 1: the weekend now the the whole in that there can't
- 19:59Speaker 1: be repeat is going to wind up being the thunder
- 20:01Speaker 1: of the spurs at least for a little while like
- 20:03Speaker 1: they're going.
- 20:03Speaker 2: To be the truest test um to what it is
- 20:05Speaker 2: but no you're not going to see guys i don't
- 20:07Speaker 2: think string together a bunch of rings In that regard,
- 20:10Speaker 2: like we're getting dangerously close to, are we going to have,
- 20:15Speaker 2: you know, wow, it's really interesting now that I think
- 20:17Speaker 2: about this, right? So with the Jordan era, you had
- 20:19Speaker 2: all these guys who didn't win, Ewing, Karl Malone, John Stockton,
- 20:23Speaker 2: Charles Barkley, you know, like just all these guys who
- 20:25Speaker 2: did not get rings because Michael Jordan was hogging all
- 20:29Speaker 2: the rings, right?
- 20:31Speaker 1: What if we also.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Wind up with a case where we get guys who
- 20:34Speaker 2: don't get them just because they never got the spin
- 20:36Speaker 2: on the wheel to get there? Like, when are we
- 20:38Speaker 2: going to get to the, hey, Luca, what's up with you, guy? Like,
- 20:43Speaker 2: guys like him, he's been in the league now for
- 20:46Speaker 2: nine years.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Where the ring at? But are we not, I don't
- 20:51Speaker 1: think we're going to do that. Joel Embiid. Joel Embiid
- 20:54Speaker 1: has been to a conference final.
- 20:57Speaker 2: You know, like, this is, What a window is is
- 21:00Speaker 2: going to be very, very interesting to see and to map.
- 21:04Speaker 2: But it seems like for Denver or for Boston to
- 21:08Speaker 2: be championship contenders, something drastic is probably.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Going to have to change.
- 21:18Speaker 2: When we first started recording this show, we had to
- 21:21Speaker 2: start it over and come back because I was trying
- 21:23Speaker 2: to do a tease, right, where I would say something.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Make you want to come back and listen a little later.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Hold through. You know what I'm saying? Be excited. Wet
- 21:30Speaker 1: your appetite. Wet with an H. You know what I'm saying?
- 21:34Speaker 1: That's what I was going for.
- 21:35Speaker 2: And I said, I'm going to get to the most
- 21:38Speaker 2: interesting thing to happen in New York in 30 years.
- 21:40Speaker 1: And we re-recorded it. Because Ryan made the fair.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Point, whether I wanted, you know, he was like, you know,
- 21:45Speaker 2: there's something that happened in the last 30 years.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Are you sure you want to do this? And I
- 21:49Speaker 1: was like, well, that wasn't really interesting.
- 21:50Speaker 5: Yeah, interesting. Yeah, it's not the most perfect adjective.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Yeah, nobody was like, yo, the most interesting thing happened today.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Let me tell you about it. Yeah.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Right.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Yes.
- 22:01Speaker 5: A plane.
- 22:03Speaker 1: But he was right. It plays better me explaining what
- 22:08Speaker 1: the story was. than he does actually doing it.
- 22:11Speaker 5: Especially, you know, 20 minutes in, then 20 seconds in.
- 22:14Speaker 2: That's great. We still made content out of that moment, right?
- 22:18Speaker 2: That's how pros do it, kids. That's how pros do it.
- 22:22Speaker 2: But no, I do think that this is, at least
- 22:24Speaker 2: in a sporting sense, this is the most interesting thing
- 22:26Speaker 2: I'd say to happen in New York in 30 years,
- 22:28Speaker 2: and it's this. The New York Knicks have zero excuse
- 22:36Speaker 2: if they do not win the East. I think they
- 22:40Speaker 2: should be the favorites.
- 22:42Speaker 5: They are.
- 22:43Speaker 1: To win the East. Yeah, they're the favorites to win
- 22:46Speaker 1: the East.
- 22:46Speaker 2: They easily looked superior to all the teams that are
- 22:52Speaker 2: this far in the East. And I think we need
- 22:55Speaker 2: to give them a measure of credit. I don't remember
- 22:57Speaker 2: if I said this here, but they got down 2-1
- 23:02Speaker 2: to the Hawks. And they didn't just beat them the
- 23:05Speaker 2: next three games. they blew their doors off in a
- 23:08Speaker 2: way where I think there's a confirmation bias element that
- 23:13Speaker 2: comes in circumstances like this. Like if you really thought
- 23:15Speaker 2: that they were some bosses, you would be like, hey,
- 23:18Speaker 2: they knew what time it was and then they stood
- 23:20Speaker 2: up and they decided to win, right? I just know
- 23:25Speaker 2: on Friday night, I've never seen a team with a
- 23:31Speaker 2: score in the 70s and the other team had a
- 23:34Speaker 2: score in the 20s.
- 23:37Speaker 1: It might have even been in the teens. I've never,
- 23:42Speaker 1: ever seen.
- 23:42Speaker 2: A team up by 50 points with like six minutes
- 23:47Speaker 2: left in the second quarter. They, it was outright destruction
- 23:53Speaker 2: and not just the Hawks are playing badly.
- 23:57Speaker 1: If you had put the Knicks in.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Golden State Warrior suits in 2016, Or the Thunder, right?
- 24:05Speaker 2: Or the Spurs or any team that you think of
- 24:08Speaker 2: as truly being in that championship caliber. That would have
- 24:11Speaker 2: been the first story on every show coming in here
- 24:13Speaker 2: was just like, so do you think anybody will ever
- 24:16Speaker 2: beat them?
- 24:17Speaker 5: Right?
- 24:17Speaker 1: Do you think there's a chance they can sweep it out?
- 24:19Speaker 1: That's how good they look against the Hawks. Running the
- 24:23Speaker 1: offense through towns.
- 24:25Speaker 2: It seems they fix the wildest thing. If you do
- 24:29Speaker 2: things through your most talented player. amazing what might happen, right?
- 24:33Speaker 2: You know, that's, look, that's a lot of, a lot of,
- 24:35Speaker 2: there's a lot going on with that decision and how
- 24:37Speaker 2: they got there or anything else. But the truth is,
- 24:39Speaker 2: they look like the best team in the East and
- 24:40Speaker 2: we said going into this year, there's no reason why
- 24:43Speaker 2: they could not win the East. Whether you thought they
- 24:45Speaker 2: would or not would be its own discussion. But there
- 24:47Speaker 2: was no, here's the reason why they can't win the East.
- 24:50Speaker 2: That was never there. The only reason that's been there
- 24:52Speaker 2: that they could not win the East was themselves. Which means,
- 24:57Speaker 2: and where this gets fun, this has to be the
- 24:59Speaker 2: most pressure that the New York Knicks have been under
- 25:03Speaker 2: since 1994, 1995?
- 25:05Speaker 1: It's got to be.
- 25:09Speaker 2: When I got here nine years ago, man, I always
- 25:12Speaker 2: say I feel like Knicks fans get a bad rap.
- 25:14Speaker 1: I really do.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Because they really care. They really, really do love that team.
- 25:18Speaker 2: And when I first got here, man, and they would
- 25:20Speaker 2: stop me on the street, they was just asking me
- 25:22Speaker 2: to say anything nice.
- 25:24Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Like....
- 25:27Speaker 2: They just like, please give us some reason for hope
- 25:29Speaker 2: for some optimism or whatever it is.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Now, here's the thing about the Knicks fans. Their transition
- 25:35Speaker 1: for we just want to be good to. All right,
- 25:40Speaker 1: let's go. It's quick. It is very, very quick. But
- 25:45Speaker 1: it is justified at this point.
- 25:48Speaker 4: Right.
- 25:48Speaker 2: For them to view this as a team that should
- 25:51Speaker 2: win and to demand of it that they do win
- 25:54Speaker 2: the East.
- 25:57Speaker 1: I see it. This is not the Knicks.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Went on a five-game winning streak in 2012, and now
- 26:02Speaker 2: they think they can win three championships. That's not what's
- 26:04Speaker 2: going on here this time. This is, you guys look
- 26:07Speaker 2: like the best team left.
- 26:08Speaker 1: You should get this done.
- 26:09Speaker 2: You are going to play against the Philadelphia 76ers. You
- 26:13Speaker 2: should beat them, right? Because even though Embiid has dialed
- 26:17Speaker 2: it up, that's still a fairly reduced form of Embiid.
- 26:20Speaker 5: And we, just because we got a good... Embiid is
- 26:24Speaker 5: playing through 30-plus minutes of one game.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Yes.
- 26:27Speaker 5: Does not mean he will be playing through 30 minutes
- 26:29Speaker 5: of the next game.
- 26:30Speaker 1: That is correct. But look, it really comes down to this, man.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Carl got a ball. Right.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Like, to me, for them to do the things that
- 26:38Speaker 2: I think they should do, he should be their best player, right?
- 26:41Speaker 2: He should be out there getting you 20-something a night.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Now.
- 26:45Speaker 2: The way he's played in these last few games and
- 26:47Speaker 2: dialing back the FGAs and stuff like that have been interesting.
- 26:51Speaker 1: But he can't be out there with the stupid fouls.
- 26:54Speaker 2: He's got to be on the floor to provide in
- 26:57Speaker 2: that way. But the Pistons, who also I think deserve
- 27:01Speaker 2: a measure of credit for making the we got to
- 27:03Speaker 2: dial it up decision, they have structural flaws that I
- 27:07Speaker 2: do not believe the Knicks have, which is they only
- 27:09Speaker 2: got one guy that can go get a bucket. The
- 27:12Speaker 2: Knicks don't have that problem. The Knicks have a lot
- 27:15Speaker 2: of good players. Like I think that's actually a little
- 27:18Speaker 2: bit underrated about them is the quantity of good players
- 27:22Speaker 2: that the Knicks have.
- 27:24Speaker 1: They got a lot of guys that you would like
- 27:27Speaker 1: to have on your team.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Like OG Ananobi being like the third or fourth name
- 27:31Speaker 2: that you typically talk about when you talk about this team.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Hey man, OG can ball, right?
- 27:36Speaker 2: They've got what it takes to go ahead and and
- 27:39Speaker 2: do this, and I can't wait to see how that
- 27:42Speaker 2: plays out here, boy. Like, I need to start doing
- 27:45Speaker 2: this where I go, one night I went over there,
- 27:48Speaker 2: I pulled up over by Madison Square Garden before the
- 27:50Speaker 2: game just to get the vibes. You know, it was
- 27:52Speaker 2: a little too early, but it was cool. I'm going
- 27:54Speaker 2: to tell you what I did notice, though. This is
- 27:56Speaker 2: about the Knicks. It ain't just them. They showed the
- 27:58Speaker 2: clip last night or the shots in Toronto from Jurassic Park,
- 28:04Speaker 2: and that's where they got this square in Toronto where
- 28:06Speaker 2: they showed a game on TV. And then people come
- 28:09Speaker 2: and watch it. And they do the same thing outside
- 28:12Speaker 2: of Madison Square Garden, right?
- 28:13Speaker 1: It looks good on TV.
- 28:14Speaker 2: It's fan engagement. And you get to, like, I don't
- 28:17Speaker 2: know exactly where it is in Toronto. I feel like
- 28:19Speaker 2: it's a few blocks away from the arena. It's right
- 28:22Speaker 2: next to Madison Square Garden. And, buddy, you want to
- 28:26Speaker 2: talk about the uncoolest place in the world.
- 28:31Speaker 1: They showed that clip of the people in Toronto.
- 28:33Speaker 2: And, buddy, that was the dork fest of all dork
- 28:37Speaker 2: fests when I looked up there.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Like, you know what you see a lot of up there?
- 28:41Speaker 1: Jerseys over hoodies. With glasses.
- 28:46Speaker 5: You know what you don't see a lot of there?
- 28:49Speaker 5: Guys with their girlfriends.
- 28:50Speaker 1: That's what I was about to say. There's number two.
- 28:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Right?
- 28:54Speaker 2: You don't see a lot of guys with their girlfriends,
- 28:56Speaker 2: and the reason they all have is, my girlfriend go
- 28:59Speaker 2: to another school.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Right, ladies, on that clip. And I was like, yeah,
- 29:03Speaker 1: this is not the coolest place I have ever seen.
- 29:06Speaker 2: And I saw them piling in and getting ready at
- 29:08Speaker 2: Madison Square Garden that time.
- 29:10Speaker 1: And I was like, yeah, I'm not saying these guys.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Aren't big fans, but they are not a representative cross-section
- 29:16Speaker 2: of the entirety of the fan base.
- 29:18Speaker 1: I wonder what it looks like in Toronto for the Maple.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Leafs, though, because Paisan, Tirico, was saying that they had
- 29:25Speaker 2: first started doing that for the Maple Leafs and I'm
- 29:28Speaker 2: curious what the crowd is that's there because I don't
- 29:30Speaker 2: feel like I don't feel like the dorks are piling
- 29:32Speaker 2: up for that in Toronto I just I don't know
- 29:36Speaker 2: I could be wrong I don't think they're doing this
- 29:37Speaker 2: I'm also very disappointed in the Raptors because I hope
- 29:40Speaker 2: that the Raptors would win that because then they would
- 29:41Speaker 2: go play against Detroit.
- 29:42Speaker 1: And I was like, if Detroit plays against Toronto, the
- 29:45Speaker 1: winner gets Windsor. like i thought that was really clever.
- 29:50Speaker 5: You know what i'm saying that is a limited range
- 29:53Speaker 5: joke that is very funny yeah it is.
- 29:55Speaker 2: That's what i'm right right right right like anybody that
- 29:57Speaker 2: knows what i'm talking about the winner gets windsor you
- 30:00Speaker 2: know what i'm saying like windsor windsor windsor kind of
- 30:02Speaker 2: owls kind of there's you know what i'm saying get
- 30:05Speaker 2: the troops up at the border you know what i'm
- 30:07Speaker 2: saying and get.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Out there see they figure it out they figure it
- 30:09Speaker 1: out anyway next bit the next better win the east.

- 32:43Speaker 5: Would you like to elaborate and describe what happened?
- 32:48Speaker 2: Man, I'm on there. Mind of my own business. It's me,
- 32:51Speaker 2: it's Adam. It's young Trey Murphy III, though I will note.
- 32:55Speaker 2: You could be Murphy III, or you could be Trey.
- 32:58Speaker 2: There's no need to be both.
- 32:59Speaker 5: You're saying it's redundant and repetitive?
- 33:01Speaker 1: Yeah, no need to be both.
- 33:02Speaker 2: What's so funny, though, is I saw Trey at a
- 33:04Speaker 2: hotel lobby in Houston last year, and people thought I
- 33:08Speaker 2: was his dad. And he told me that, and I
- 33:09Speaker 2: thought he was just trying to unk me, because he
- 33:11Speaker 2: liked to try to unk me. But no, I kind
- 33:13Speaker 2: of look like his dad. Like, he showed me a picture.
- 33:15Speaker 2: I was like, oh, I see what you're talking about.
- 33:16Speaker 2: But I am also old enough to be his dad.
- 33:20Speaker 2: It's a lot going on at one time. Anyway, I
- 33:23Speaker 2: don't know how or why this came up. But something
- 33:29Speaker 2: came up about The Sopranos and The Wire. And I
- 33:31Speaker 2: was in the process of making an analogy that right
- 33:34Speaker 2: now I don't even remember what I was going to say.
- 33:36Speaker 2: But I was going to say that The Sopranos is
- 33:39Speaker 2: to The Wire as... And then he told me that
- 33:43Speaker 2: The Wire's characters were all cartoons and did not have
- 33:48Speaker 2: any depth to them. And I... lost my mind. Actually,
- 33:55Speaker 2: I feel like I did not lose my mind. I
- 33:57Speaker 2: was in the process of losing my mind. And he's like, well,
- 34:01Speaker 2: what nuance does Omar have? And now I'm at the
- 34:05Speaker 2: point where I don't even have anything else to say.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Where are we?
- 34:10Speaker 2: But I cooked up a nice professional answer on that one, right?
- 34:15Speaker 2: And I felt like people received me as trying to
- 34:17Speaker 2: say the Sopranos characters don't have depth and nuance.
- 34:21Speaker 1: And that wasn't what I was saying right then.
- 34:23Speaker 2: What I was saying or trying to make the point was,
- 34:26Speaker 2: even if you think the Sopranos characters or the Wires
- 34:29Speaker 2: characters lack depth, I don't understand your argument that the
- 34:34Speaker 2: Sopranos characters somehow have more depth.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Okay?
- 34:38Speaker 2: Because this is the thing about the Sopranos. And I
- 34:40Speaker 2: watched it, honestly, I just watched it for the first
- 34:42Speaker 2: time over Christmas. Like, I did a watch of the
- 34:44Speaker 2: whole thing. The Sopranos got worse as the Sopranos forgot
- 34:49Speaker 2: what the Sopranos really was.
- 34:52Speaker 1: A comedy.
- 34:54Speaker 2: As it got farther from comedy, it got less and
- 34:57Speaker 2: less interesting. Those first couple seasons are flat-out comedy. It
- 35:00Speaker 2: was the second episode where they got the woman from
- 35:03Speaker 2: Trinidad watching Tony's mom, and Tony comes up.
- 35:05Speaker 1: And says, hey, just letting you know, while you're in
- 35:07Speaker 1: the house, no ganja. what are we doing, right?
- 35:14Speaker 2: Like, Tony Soprano pulling up on people at their jobs,
- 35:17Speaker 2: not knowing that they were going to see him and
- 35:18Speaker 2: beating them up.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Like, all that stuff is hysterical. What's it stop being comedy?
- 35:23Speaker 1: Not so much.
- 35:24Speaker 2: But I could not understand how one would not see
- 35:26Speaker 2: the depth in characters of The Wire, but be like,
- 35:29Speaker 2: but The Sopranos, that's, now we're in, no, no, I
- 35:32Speaker 2: didn't think you could do both those things.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Ryan, I don't know the last time we did.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Anything on this show that got that level of engagement.
- 35:38Speaker 2: People really, really got charged up about this. In part,
- 35:40Speaker 2: because I don't think My man Adam understood what people
- 35:44Speaker 2: were going to assume about him.
- 35:45Speaker 4: Correct.
- 35:46Speaker 5: From saying that. The stumble into the accidental race war.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and by the way, it seemed like a very
- 35:55Speaker 2: obvious thing to me.
- 35:56Speaker 4: Yes.
- 35:57Speaker 2: And I know it's a very obvious, it seemed obvious
- 35:59Speaker 2: to me because I.
- 36:01Speaker 1: In the moment, was like... What you trying to say?
- 36:04Speaker 1: I didn't say that. Cause I, you know, I ain't
- 36:06Speaker 1: really no cat or whatever, but I was like, Oh no.
- 36:09Speaker 2: I don't like, I think that Adam Friedland got home
- 36:13Speaker 2: and was like, huh?
- 36:15Speaker 1: I don't know what he did after he had such
- 36:17Speaker 1: the realization.
- 36:18Speaker 2: But I do think that he realized that, um, I
- 36:24Speaker 2: don't know if he had ever been invited to the cookout,
- 36:28Speaker 2: but there are going to be a few, like he
- 36:29Speaker 2: won't be going to one in Baltimore. No, no, no.
- 36:35Speaker 2: Not without a serious letter of credit.
- 36:39Speaker 5: All right. Since we last recorded, still in the league,
- 36:44Speaker 5: All-Star has retired. I'm talking about, of course, Ask Jeeves.
- 36:49Speaker 5: Nearly made it to 30 years. Launched in June of 1996,
- 36:53Speaker 5: ended May 1st of 2026. Bo, what's your biggest memory
- 36:59Speaker 5: of Ask Jeeves?
- 37:00Speaker 1: My biggest memory of Ask Jeeves is me and my
- 37:02Speaker 1: man Che. We used to ask Jeeves the same question.
- 37:05Speaker 1: We asked Jeeves the same question that we ask just
- 37:08Speaker 1: about every day.
- 37:09Speaker 2: And Jeeves ain't never had the answer. And we knew
- 37:12Speaker 2: that if Jeeves ain't have the answer to that existential question,
- 37:15Speaker 2: that question that always matters. And I know some of
- 37:18Speaker 2: y'all out here are like, well, what question are you
- 37:19Speaker 2: talking about? And the answer to that question, answers that
- 37:22Speaker 2: always work well for that question.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Atlanta. I was just in Rio. Rio was an answer.
- 37:30Speaker 1: to the question. You know what I mean?
- 37:31Speaker 2: Some people like Miami. Houston don't get enough credit. New
- 37:34Speaker 2: York don't either. But Jeeves never knew where. No matter
- 37:38Speaker 2: how many times I asked, Jeeves never knew where. And
- 37:43Speaker 2: that's when I knew it wasn't long for Jeeves. I'm
- 37:45Speaker 2: actually surprised that Jeeves made it this long. That's what
- 37:49Speaker 2: we always want to know. And Jeeves ain't never have
- 37:53Speaker 2: no idea. So, shout out to Jeeves for hanging on
- 37:57Speaker 2: as long as they did, but you know, You should
- 38:00Speaker 2: have known better.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Like, I bet Chad GPT got the answer. In fact,
- 38:04Speaker 1: let me check right now. Let me see if Chad
- 38:07Speaker 1: GPT can answer this question.
- 38:11Speaker 5: The question.
- 38:12Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Enter.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Idiot.
- 38:26Speaker 1: It may not be the right answer, but at least
- 38:28Speaker 1: it tried. And I felt, and I felt like Jeeves
- 38:31Speaker 1: never did.
- 38:33Speaker 5: All right. And finally, uh, Rick Ross and French Montana
- 38:36Speaker 5: will be battling in a versus on Thursday. Uh, Bo,
- 38:40Speaker 5: you have previously said versus are dead. Do you still
- 38:43Speaker 5: have the same opinion?
- 38:46Speaker 2: Say what you just said to me again, and then
- 38:48Speaker 2: ask me that question again.
- 38:49Speaker 5: Uh, Rick Ross in French Montana, squaring off in a
- 38:54Speaker 5: versus on Thursday. His verse is dead still.
- 38:59Speaker 2: French Montana in a versus is an indictment of a
- 39:09Speaker 2: whole generation. Because like, what, 20 French.
- 39:17Speaker 1: You guys enjoy that, man. If that's what y'all want
- 39:19Speaker 1: to do, man, y'all go ahead. No, no, no. Y'all
- 39:21Speaker 1: have fun. Y'all go ahead. If that's that's what you
- 39:23Speaker 1: feel I will not be watching.
- 39:28Speaker 5: All right Bo a lot of good voicemails here's our first.
- 39:37Speaker 3: This question is for uh Joelle Anderson uh what's going
- 39:42Speaker 3: on Bomani Jones podcast family we talked the other day
- 39:46Speaker 3: about having nicknames like if you made the If you
- 39:49Speaker 3: made the name Wi-Fi, you just go by and call
- 39:52Speaker 3: me Wi-Fi. So we call Joel Anderson something like quarter
- 39:59Speaker 3: fast for being the fastest fourth grader in America. And
- 40:04Speaker 3: I would like to also ask.
- 40:06Speaker 6: Could he currently be a fourth grader in a race?
- 40:10Speaker 5: All right. Peace and love.
- 40:18Speaker 1: I can't wait till Joel hears this.
- 40:20Speaker 5: I want to be clear. They asked us.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Joel is about to start getting into playing shape for
- 40:30Speaker 2: his race against Billy.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Because this is going to happen.
- 40:32Speaker 5: So this is really happening.
- 40:33Speaker 1: This is going to happen. Joel is also currently in
- 40:36Speaker 1: Los Angeles.
- 40:38Speaker 2: And the last I checked, they had taken Joel's phone
- 40:41Speaker 2: and was sending tweets from it.
- 40:44Speaker 5: Which is a very 2014 thing to do, but I
- 40:46Speaker 5: still found to be very funny.
- 40:48Speaker 2: I asked Van if he is simply going to antagonize
- 40:51Speaker 2: Joel all week, and in all caps, he replied, yes.
- 40:59Speaker 2: I love that currently Joel is providing enough content for
- 41:05Speaker 2: two podcasts, only.
- 41:07Speaker 1: One of which he is the host, just by being himself. Like,
- 41:10Speaker 1: this is one of the great developments of 2026.
- 41:13Speaker 2: The building, the star turn The year of Joel. The
- 41:18Speaker 2: year of Joel, all by leaning in on his inner hater.
- 41:23Speaker 2: The inner hater that he swears does not exist and
- 41:27Speaker 2: that was only invented by me and Van Lathan.
- 41:32Speaker 1: But look at the success that this is turning into. Also,
- 41:35Speaker 1: did you see me send you the answers from Chad GPT?
- 41:42Speaker 5: I sure did.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:44Speaker 1: See what I mean?
- 41:45Speaker 5: Not incorrect.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Told you. Jeeves never stood a chance.
- 41:50Speaker 5: It might be more of a me answer than a
- 41:51Speaker 5: you answer, but still not incorrect.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Never stood a chance. Never stood a chance.
- 41:56Speaker 4: All right.
- 41:56Speaker 5: Here's our next one.
- 41:58Speaker 3: Hey, Bo.
- 41:59Speaker 6: Thoroughly enjoyed your Time Machine Tuesday recap of the lead
- 42:04Speaker 6: up to the 2016 Warriors. And my question is in
- 42:09Speaker 6: that light of between the 16 Warriors and the 2007 patch,
- 42:14Speaker 6: Which team's legacy is benefited more if they actually win
- 42:19Speaker 6: the title that year? Thanks again for everything that you do.
- 42:24Speaker 1: Oh, I think the answer there is obviously the 2007 Patriots.
- 42:27Speaker 1: And the reason I say that is it's easy to forget.
- 42:31Speaker 2: They went nine years between titles. They won a title
- 42:36Speaker 2: in 04 and they won one in 14. They did
- 42:41Speaker 2: not win a title in between.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Um, and.
- 42:47Speaker 2: I would say even if they go 73 and nine
- 42:51Speaker 2: and they win a championship, we have questions about whether
- 42:53Speaker 2: that's the greatest team we've ever seen.
- 42:57Speaker 1: I don't think there are any questions.
- 42:59Speaker 2: If the 2007 Patriots win with Tom Brady throwing 50
- 43:02Speaker 2: touchdown passes and Randy Moss.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Catching like 23 or 24 of them.
- 43:07Speaker 2: I think we look at that as the greatest team
- 43:09Speaker 2: of all time. A 16-game undefeated season. Right? Like, though,
- 43:16Speaker 2: it was a much different league and a much more
- 43:18Speaker 2: difficult league than the one that the Dolphins won in
- 43:20Speaker 2: in 72.
- 43:21Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no. The Patriots win that one.
- 43:22Speaker 1: I think we look at them much different.
- 43:25Speaker 5: All right, here's our last one.
- 43:27Speaker 4: Hey, Bomani. Listening to you talk to Vinny Goodwill about
- 43:31Speaker 4: the Knicks and about their fans specifically. I'm a 60-year-old
- 43:36Speaker 4: New Yorker. I've been here my whole life. But I'll
- 43:40Speaker 4: tell you about Knicks fans, because they think they root
- 43:43Speaker 4: for the Yankees, but they're really just the Mets. They're
- 43:47Speaker 4: good every so often, but you've got to have a
- 43:49Speaker 4: lot of hope. Keep up the good work.
- 43:54Speaker 1: I will say this again about the Knicks.
- 43:58Speaker 2: When the Rangers won the Stanley Cup in 1994. Remember,
- 44:01Speaker 2: they had a game seven against the Devils in the,
- 44:05Speaker 2: I guess it's now called the Eastern Conference Finals, but
- 44:07Speaker 2: I think it was the Campbell Conference Finals back then.
- 44:11Speaker 2: But they had to print up two different versions of
- 44:14Speaker 2: the cover because there was no telling, you know, who's
- 44:16Speaker 2: going to win it or whatever. And the one if
- 44:18Speaker 2: the Devils had won just said 1940 on the cover
- 44:20Speaker 2: because 1940 had been the last time that the Rangers
- 44:26Speaker 2: had won a Stanley Cup. It had been 54 years
- 44:30Speaker 2: since they had won a Stanley Cup. It has been
- 44:34Speaker 2: 53 years since the Knicks have won. I don't think
- 44:38Speaker 2: that it's Knicks fans that act like this so much, though.
- 44:41Speaker 2: I think very much in the marketing of this, the
- 44:43Speaker 2: idea that the Knicks are one of the league's great franchises,
- 44:47Speaker 2: like all-time great historic franchises.
- 44:51Speaker 1: This league has two historic franchises. It is the Lakers
- 44:54Speaker 1: and the Celtics. That's it.
- 44:56Speaker 2: The Celtics were winning all those rings. And before that,
- 44:58Speaker 2: the Lakers were winning a gang of those rings. They
- 45:01Speaker 2: had George Mikan, right?
- 45:03Speaker 1: Like that's what it was turning into. The Knicks have
- 45:06Speaker 1: won two championships. That's it. I feel like Knicks fans
- 45:12Speaker 1: know that. And yeah, you're right. That is a little
- 45:14Speaker 1: bit more like the Mets. But my hot take is
- 45:17Speaker 1: all the New York sports teams are more like the Mets.
- 45:21Speaker 1: than the Yankees.
- 45:22Speaker 2: The Giants managed to pull off those 07 and 2011 titles, right?
- 45:28Speaker 1: That kind of beef up the total. But otherwise, let's
- 45:33Speaker 1: look this up. New York Giants.
- 45:35Speaker 2: I'm going to go to their wiki page and we'll
- 45:37Speaker 2: look at them in terms of like being a championship situation.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Yeah, Ryan. They ain't really... They won championship.
- 45:48Speaker 2: Look, 1927... 1934, 1938, 1956.
- 45:56Speaker 1: When the league had eight teams. And two of them,
- 46:01Speaker 1: Washington and Pittsburgh.
- 46:03Speaker 5: With those years, I thought you think you're talking about
- 46:05Speaker 5: the baseball giants.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Yeah, right, right. Now that's a team, right? That's a
- 46:10Speaker 1: team with some heritage. The Jets are the Jets. The
- 46:14Speaker 1: Rangers are the Rangers. The Islanders post 1980, whatever. They're
- 46:18Speaker 1: what they are.
- 46:20Speaker 2: Right?
- 46:21Speaker 1: No, no, no. Everybody in New York is the Mets. Basically.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Except the Yankees.
- 46:28Speaker 5: Who have been the Mets for 30 years.
- 46:31Speaker 1: They've been the Mets for more like 15.
- 46:35Speaker 2: Fair enough.
- 46:37Speaker 5: I mean, I know what your IMG markation is and
- 46:39Speaker 5: that makes sense.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, they won a World Series in 09.
- 46:41Speaker 2: Right.
- 46:42Speaker 1: They were consistently going there.
- 46:44Speaker 4: Right?
- 46:44Speaker 1: And since then, it's been Metsy.
- 46:46Speaker 4: Fair.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Been Metsy.
- 46:49Speaker 2: But hey, Ladies and gentlemen, let me tell you something
