- 0:47Speaker 1: Welcome to today's edition of Reflection on the Word with
- 0:50Speaker 1: Richard K. I'm Chuck Christie, and today we are asking
- 0:54Speaker 1: you to spend a few moments of your time with
- 0:56Speaker 1: us each day as Richard shares from God's work with notes, quotes,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and story along with some of his own personal experiences,
- 1:02Speaker 1: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:05Speaker 1: his compassion for us never fails, and that He has
- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. Now, if
- 1:11Speaker 1: you miss a portion of today's broadcast or would like
- 1:13Speaker 1: to recommend it to a friend, you can hear this
- 1:16Speaker 1: program anytime online at Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now
- 1:21Speaker 1: here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:24Speaker 2: My speech and my proclamation were not with persuasive words
- 1:31Speaker 2: of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the spirit and power,
- 1:38Speaker 2: so that your faith might not be based on men's wisdom,
- 1:43Speaker 2: but on God's power. First Curnt ends chapter two and
- 1:49Speaker 2: verse four and five. Paul was speaking to the church
- 1:58Speaker 2: established in cars. He wrote two letters to the Corinthian Church.
- 2:05Speaker 2: The first letter he identified many aspects of what was
- 2:12Speaker 2: to be their following rule. He always was able to
- 2:20Speaker 2: demonstrate the power of God. Now he actually told them
- 2:28Speaker 2: that when he was with them, he couldn't speak great
- 2:32Speaker 2: words oratory or wisdom of man's eloquence. He in some
- 2:39Speaker 2: ways was weak and in fear and much trembling. But
- 2:44Speaker 2: he only preached to them the reality of who Jesus
- 2:50Speaker 2: Christ is and he being crucified. Everybody that heard gospel
- 2:59Speaker 2: messages from the mouth of the apostle Paul could identify
- 3:07Speaker 2: with this pattern. He would always preach everything about Jesus
- 3:14Speaker 2: being crucified for the sins of mankind. He never did
- 3:23Speaker 2: preach great eloquent words, although he may have had tremendous
- 3:30Speaker 2: godly wisdom, but he didn't overpower people by eloquence. He
- 3:40Speaker 2: demonstrated the power of God which changes lives. He simply
- 3:47Speaker 2: submitted himself to the Holy Spirit. And when we read
- 3:55Speaker 2: about his manner, we find that he is speaking here
- 4:02Speaker 2: about two different kinds of preaching and two kinds of faith.
- 4:09Speaker 2: The spirit of the preacher will determine the faith of
- 4:14Speaker 2: his congregation. When the preaching of the Cross is given
- 4:18Speaker 2: only in the words of human wisdom, then the faith
- 4:23Speaker 2: of the hearers will be in the wisdom of men.
- 4:27Speaker 2: But when the preaching is in the demonstration of the
- 4:31Speaker 2: Spirit and of power. The faith of the believers will
- 4:36Speaker 2: also be firm and strong in the power of God.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Preaching in the demonstration of the Spirit will bring the
- 4:46Speaker 2: double blessing of power in the word and in the
- 4:51Speaker 2: faith of those who receive that word. If we desire
- 4:56Speaker 2: to know the measure of the working of the Spirit,
- 5:01Speaker 2: we must consider the preaching and the faith that springs
- 5:06Speaker 2: from it. In this way alone can we see whether
- 5:11Speaker 2: the full blessing of Pentecost is truly manifested in the church.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Very few are prepared to say this is really the case.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Everywhere today among the children of God we hear complaints
- 5:29Speaker 2: of weakness and sin. Among those who do not complain,
- 5:35Speaker 2: is reason to fear that their silence is really ascribed
- 5:39Speaker 2: to ignorance or self satisfaction. It is important that we
- 5:45Speaker 2: concentrate on this fact until we come under the full
- 5:50Speaker 2: conviction that the condition of the Church today is marked
- 5:55Speaker 2: by impotence, and nothing can restore her accept the return
- 6:02Speaker 2: to a life in the full enjoyment of the blessing
- 6:07Speaker 2: of Pentecopts. The more deeply we feel our deficiency, the
- 6:13Speaker 2: more speedily we will desire and obtain restoration. It will
- 6:19Speaker 2: help to awaken longing for this blessing. If we earnestly
- 6:24Speaker 2: consider how little it is enjoyed in the Church today,
- 6:31Speaker 2: and how far the Church is from being what the
- 6:35Speaker 2: Lord has power to make of her. You know that
- 6:41Speaker 2: we have, because of the Spirit of Christ coming in
- 6:47Speaker 2: the personal Pentecostal experience, we have power over sin. And
- 6:56Speaker 2: if you think about it, the example what little power
- 7:01Speaker 2: over sin there really is among the children of God today.
- 7:08Speaker 2: When He came down on the disciples, a transformation was
- 7:13Speaker 2: effected in them. Their carnal thoughts were changed into spiritual insight,
- 7:20Speaker 2: their pride into humility, their selfishness into love, their fear
- 7:26Speaker 2: of man into courageous and fidelity against all else. Sin
- 7:35Speaker 2: was cast out by the inflowing of the life of
- 7:39Speaker 2: Jesus and of Heaven. The life which the Lord has
- 7:43Speaker 2: prepared for his people is a life of victory. It
- 7:48Speaker 2: is not just victory to such an extent that there
- 7:52Speaker 2: will be no temptation for evil or an inclination to sin,
- 7:58Speaker 2: but there is to be victory of such a kind
- 8:02Speaker 2: that the indwelling power of the Spirit who fills us,
- 8:06Speaker 2: the presence of the indwelling Savior, will keep sin in subjection.
- 8:12Speaker 2: As the light subdues the darkness. Yet to what a
- 8:16Speaker 2: small extent we see this power for victory over sin
- 8:22Speaker 2: in the Church today, Even among earnest Christian followers, we
- 8:28Speaker 2: see untruthfulness and a lack of honor, pride and self esteem,
- 8:35Speaker 2: selfishness and a lack of love. How little are the
- 8:40Speaker 2: traces of the image of Jesus, the obedience, humility, love,
- 8:46Speaker 2: and the entire surrender to the will of God, even
- 8:50Speaker 2: among the people of God. The truth is that we
- 8:54Speaker 2: have become so accustomed to the confession of sin and
- 8:58Speaker 2: the unfaithfulness of disobedience and backsliding, that it is no
- 9:04Speaker 2: longer regarded as a matter of concern. We make the
- 9:09Speaker 2: confession before each other, and then after the prayer we
- 9:14Speaker 2: rest comforted and content. Brethren, let us feel humbled and
- 9:20Speaker 2: mourn over it. It is because so little of the
- 9:24Speaker 2: full blessing of the Spirit is enjoyed or sought for,
- 9:28Speaker 2: that the children of God still commit so much sin
- 9:33Speaker 2: and have so much to confess. Let every sin, whether
- 9:38Speaker 2: in ourselves or others, serve as a call to notice
- 9:44Speaker 2: how much the Spirit of God is lacking among us.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Let every instance of failure in the fear of the
- 9:52Speaker 2: Lord in love, holiness, and the entire surrender to the
- 9:56Speaker 2: will of God urge us to call on God God
- 10:00Speaker 2: to bring his Spirit to full dominion over the whole
- 10:05Speaker 2: Church once more. When the Lord Jesus promised the comforter,
- 10:11Speaker 2: he said, whom the world cannot receive. The spirit of
- 10:17Speaker 2: this world, which is devotion to the visible, is in
- 10:23Speaker 2: irreconcilable antagonism with the spirit of Jesus in heaven, where
- 10:31Speaker 2: God and his will are everything. The world has rejected
- 10:37Speaker 2: the Lord Jesus then and now, and to whatever extent
- 10:42Speaker 2: it may now usurp the Christian name, the world is
- 10:47Speaker 2: still the same untameable enemy. For this reason, Jesus said
- 10:54Speaker 2: to his disciples, they are not of the world, even
- 11:00Speaker 2: as I am not of the world in John chapter
- 11:05Speaker 2: seventeen and verse sixteen. This too is the reason why
- 11:10Speaker 2: Paul said, we have received not the spirit of the world,
- 11:16Speaker 2: but the spirit which is of God verse Corinthians two twelve.
- 11:22Speaker 2: The two spirits, the spirit of the world and the
- 11:25Speaker 2: spirit of God, are engaged in a life and death
- 11:29Speaker 2: conflict with one another. Therefore, it is that God has
- 11:35Speaker 2: always called on his people to separate themselves from the
- 11:39Speaker 2: world and live as pilgrims whose treasure and heart are
- 11:45Speaker 2: in heaven.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 11:50Speaker 1: But if you've just joined us, you've been listening to
- 11:52Speaker 1: Reflections on the Word with Richard K. You can hear
- 11:55Speaker 1: this message in his entirety again online as well as
- 11:59Speaker 1: Richard's entire archive at Talknetwork Radio dot com. We would
- 12:03Speaker 1: like to acknowledge our theme song, how Great Is Thy Faithfulness,
- 12:07Speaker 1: from the America's twenty five Favorite Hymns album unless otherwise.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Express scriptures are read from the Holman Christian Standard Bible,
- 12:16Speaker 1: which is published by Homan Bible Publishers in Nashville, Tennessee.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Additional resources used for Reflections on the Word with Richard
- 12:23Speaker 1: K include Great Is Thy Faithfulness? By Our Daily Bread
- 12:28Speaker 1: and printed by Discovery House Publishers. Again, here is Richard
- 12:32Speaker 1: to wrap up today's message.
- 12:37Speaker 2: But is this what is really seen among Christians today? Rarely?
- 12:43Speaker 2: Who will dare say so? When they have obtained a
- 12:47Speaker 2: measure of unblameableness in their walk and assurance of heaven,
- 12:53Speaker 2: many Christians consider that they are at liberty to enjoy
- 12:57Speaker 2: the world as fully as others. Little is seen of
- 13:03Speaker 2: true heavenly mindedness in our conversations and our walk, or
- 13:09Speaker 2: in disposition and endeavor. Is not this the case because
- 13:15Speaker 2: the search for spiritual excellence is so little enjoyed and
- 13:20Speaker 2: sought for. You see, Believers, light drives out darkness. The
- 13:26Speaker 2: spirit of Heaven expels the spirit of the world. Where
- 13:32Speaker 2: a man does not surrender himself to be filled with
- 13:35Speaker 2: the Spirit of Jesus and the Spirit of Heaven, Christians,
- 13:40Speaker 2: though he may be, he must come under the power
- 13:45Speaker 2: of the spirit of the world. Listen to the piercing
- 13:50Speaker 2: cry that rises from the whole church. Who will rescue
- 13:57Speaker 2: us from the power of the spirit of this world?
- 14:03Speaker 2: Your answer should be nothing, no one except the Spirit
- 14:11Speaker 2: of God. I must be filled with the Spirit. As
- 14:18Speaker 2: Paul stated to the Corinthian Church in our earlier reading,
- 14:25Speaker 2: the Gospel can be preached in word only. But if
- 14:31Speaker 2: your faith is in the Word only, then the demonstration
- 14:36Speaker 2: of power that will keep you above the worldly desires
- 14:43Speaker 2: will keep you posted in heavenly places. You see, believer,
- 14:51Speaker 2: we are already seated with God in heavenly places. We're
- 14:59Speaker 2: going to talk more about that in the next segment,
- 15:04Speaker 2: and that is today's reflection on the Word Thank you. Richard.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Join us again tomorrow when we continue with the next
- 15:13Speaker 1: edition of Reflections on the Word with Richard ky or
- 15:16Speaker 1: Richard the entire team. This is Chuck Christie saying thanks
- 15:20Speaker 1: for listening to this edition of Reflections on the Word.
