- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:10Speaker 1: covering one Piece episodes eight zero nine through eight eleven.
- 0:18Speaker 1: A storm of revenge, an enraged army comes to attack,
- 0:23Speaker 1: the end of the adventure, Sanji's resolute proposal and I'll
- 0:29Speaker 1: wait here Lufy versus the enraged army. In these episodes,
- 0:38Speaker 1: it looks like I might be getting my wish and
- 0:41Speaker 1: Sanji is going to marry Pudding after all. I just
- 0:45Speaker 1: really hope it's true, and I hope that if he
- 0:47Speaker 1: does marry her, that she doesn't just get left on
- 0:49Speaker 1: this island and referenced every now and then. She needs
- 0:53Speaker 1: to be with our people on the ship. Even though
- 0:56Speaker 1: I know this marriage means he's no longer a straw hat,
- 0:59Speaker 1: I still want what I want. Welcome to spoil Me.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you
- 1:25Speaker 1: very much to Bernadette for commissioning this episode. Yeah you
- 1:32Speaker 1: guys this uh I no wait, this one's Florian. I'm
- 1:38Speaker 1: so sorry. Thank you, Florian. Next episode. I'm only covering two,
- 1:42Speaker 1: so just an FYI to those who are following along.
- 1:50Speaker 1: This is actually a really interesting trio of episodes. I
- 1:54Speaker 1: am weirdly enjoying Big Mom and her constantly surprising personality,
- 2:06Speaker 1: the conversation with her and Sangy later where like he's like,
- 2:12Speaker 1: I want to make this deal with you, and she's like, okay.
- 2:16Speaker 1: You know, it may be that she's just pretending that
- 2:22Speaker 1: she's going to make this deal and she then goes
- 2:24Speaker 1: then does whatever she wants, But there is something about
- 2:31Speaker 1: her for me that was ringing true, and I don't know.
- 2:38Speaker 1: This is something that like I can run into a
- 2:41Speaker 1: little bit where something just makes so much sense to
- 2:45Speaker 1: me that I don't really see why somebody wouldn't be
- 2:50Speaker 1: willing to go ahead with it. And so even though
- 2:55Speaker 1: you know they are lying for me, I see this
- 2:58Speaker 1: as like, oh, well, it has the ring of truth
- 3:00Speaker 1: to it, when really what I mean is it has
- 3:02Speaker 1: the ring of logic and you know, rational thinking to it.
- 3:08Speaker 1: So a part of me is still very suspicious and
- 3:14Speaker 1: feels like the fact that Big Mom brings up other
- 3:17Speaker 1: things that Lufi has done to her that she very
- 3:20Speaker 1: much remembers.
- 3:22Speaker 2: You know.
- 3:22Speaker 1: She then follows it up with but that's all in
- 3:24Speaker 1: the past, and that may be true, but she pointed
- 3:29Speaker 1: it out. She brought it all up and mentioned every
- 3:31Speaker 1: single thing she's got a ledger she remembers, you know,
- 3:36Speaker 1: so I don't know. It could be that she's full
- 3:38Speaker 1: of shit. The thing that I was expecting out of
- 3:43Speaker 1: the so called negotiation between Soanjy and not putting big
- 3:50Speaker 1: Mom was I thought we were going to have big
- 3:57Speaker 1: Mom basically, because he comes in there and he's like,
- 4:00Speaker 1: how about this, I'll make you a deal that I
- 4:03Speaker 1: won't run away and that I will marry your daughter
- 4:07Speaker 1: as long as you don't harm my friends and you
- 4:12Speaker 1: let them go. Now, if we're really being honest, if
- 4:18Speaker 1: we back up and look at this, I don't think
- 4:24Speaker 1: that Sanji really has a He's got no leverage here.
- 4:33Speaker 1: There's just they already have him in custody. They already
- 4:38Speaker 1: have him in shackles that will blow up if he
- 4:42Speaker 1: doesn't cooperate. It just feels to me like it would
- 4:48Speaker 1: be very easy to say to him simply, well you're
- 4:53Speaker 1: obviously going to marry her anyway, because this is what's happening.
- 4:59Speaker 1: You don't ye say, and you don't have any leverage
- 5:02Speaker 1: at all to be like, let's make a deal. The
- 5:05Speaker 1: deal is done and I made it with your dad,
- 5:08Speaker 1: and that's like, you know, that's all settled. So the
- 5:13Speaker 1: fact that she makes the deal is the only thing
- 5:15Speaker 1: that kind of got me going, I don't know about this,
- 5:18Speaker 1: because it just seems to me like there's no reason
- 5:24Speaker 1: for her to agree. And I think that Big Mom
- 5:28Speaker 1: seems pretty astute and that she has to know that,
- 5:32Speaker 1: you know. So I don't know, man, It's all it's
- 5:37Speaker 1: a big question whether or not I am gonna take
- 5:41Speaker 1: her word on this. I can't decide, So, okay, Big
- 5:47Speaker 1: Mom when she finds out, if we're starting at the
- 5:49Speaker 1: beginning here, she finds out that Cracker was defeated, and
- 5:56Speaker 1: this results in her causing a storm. And you know,
- 6:03Speaker 1: I had mentioned, you guys about the effect of like
- 6:06Speaker 1: rain on all of the confectionery stuff that the whole
- 6:13Speaker 1: town is made out of. I am really I understand
- 6:23Speaker 1: that there are times where things don't work the way
- 6:26Speaker 1: that they would in the real world. It's just that
- 6:31Speaker 1: it can get a little confusing for me upon occasion
- 6:35Speaker 1: when to expect it to work a certain way and
- 6:37Speaker 1: when not to. Because this storm should soften up everything
- 6:43Speaker 1: that's made of cookie, the way that Nami using her
- 6:47Speaker 1: storm softens up those biscuit soldiers, and it just doesn't
- 6:50Speaker 1: really appear to happen that way. And that said, the
- 6:55Speaker 1: rain isn't just water. The rain is syrup, as Nami
- 7:01Speaker 1: points out later, which can we just take a moment
- 7:05Speaker 1: and talk about how awful that is? Just how awful
- 7:09Speaker 1: that is, Guys, they're cleaning up spilled syrup or honey,
- 7:19Speaker 1: anything like that is just it's not even necessarily difficult,
- 7:24Speaker 1: because all you need is hot water and it'll melt it.
- 7:28Speaker 1: But the thing is, depending on how much you have
- 7:31Speaker 1: to clean up, the amount of hot water you need,
- 7:35Speaker 1: and the number of times that you need to like
- 7:37Speaker 1: flush it out to make sure that there isn't a
- 7:41Speaker 1: sticky residue left behind, that's the part that feels overwhelming.
- 7:46Speaker 1: And there was a meme that I saw that was
- 7:49Speaker 1: like an entire gallon sized jar of honey that had
- 7:54Speaker 1: been knocked off the counter onto somebody's floor, and one
- 7:57Speaker 1: of the comments was, I think I would just move,
- 8:02Speaker 1: And honestly, I get it. You know, this is just
- 8:06Speaker 1: a it's a combination of simply the texture of it
- 8:10Speaker 1: and it getting all over everything, but also the like
- 8:15Speaker 1: when it dries, it's going to leave behind like a crust.
- 8:20Speaker 1: And I would imagine that this would interfere horrifically with
- 8:25Speaker 1: any kind of mechanical objects. Or if you're outside when
- 8:29Speaker 1: it starts raining and you don't have an umbrella, it's
- 8:31Speaker 1: all over your hair, it's completely ruining your clothes. Like
- 8:35Speaker 1: everything about a syrup rain is the absolute worst fucking
- 8:41Speaker 1: thing I can even think of. It sucks, and oh,
- 8:46Speaker 1: Florian says, I think only milk rain would be worse.
- 8:49Speaker 1: And that's fair because the syrup thing is going to
- 8:52Speaker 1: be the texture is going to be annoying, and it's
- 8:54Speaker 1: going to be it will cause damage. But milk is
- 8:59Speaker 1: also going to like curdle and begin to stink, So yeah,
- 9:02Speaker 1: that's different. Seraphim says, I'm sure she had homies to
- 9:08Speaker 1: go do the cleaning. Also, one of the benefits of
- 9:12Speaker 1: having buildings designed to be periodically eaten and rebuilt. That's
- 9:17Speaker 1: fair that if it's like made of cookie, okay, we
- 9:20Speaker 1: can just eat it after a rainstorm. It just sort
- 9:24Speaker 1: of seems to me though, because of the way that
- 9:26Speaker 1: the Biscuit soldiers got soft. You want the structure to
- 9:31Speaker 1: keep you, like, the point of it is for it
- 9:35Speaker 1: to shelter you during a storm, and if it's made
- 9:39Speaker 1: out of a material that will soften during a storm.
- 9:42Speaker 1: That feels counterproductive. But again, whatever, as far as I'm
- 9:49Speaker 1: sure she had homies to go do the cleaning, maybe don't.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I don't feel like I have a very good idea
- 9:54Speaker 1: of how many homies there are. There's you know, all
- 9:57Speaker 1: of the things around her are coming to life, like
- 9:59Speaker 1: all the food as well and everything, and so I
- 10:03Speaker 1: keep imagining it being a somewhat limited number, and it
- 10:06Speaker 1: feels like I'm way wrong about that, and that there's like,
- 10:11Speaker 1: you know, a thousands of them on the island. So
- 10:17Speaker 1: we also get to see the two clouds that she
- 10:20Speaker 1: controls uh, and they don't look anything like what I
- 10:25Speaker 1: was expecting. We've got Zeus is the one that's wearing
- 10:32Speaker 1: like a little red and white stripe baseball cap, and
- 10:38Speaker 1: Prometheus is just sort of almost like a shooting star
- 10:42Speaker 1: kind of vibes, except it doesn't shoot so much as
- 10:45Speaker 1: like bounce around and leave a trail behind it, Like
- 10:50Speaker 1: it reminded me of the little ball that bounces along
- 10:52Speaker 1: the bottom of the screen on top of lyrics when
- 10:55Speaker 1: you have one of those sing along tapes going on.
- 11:00Speaker 1: But yeah, the whole thing is uh really not the
- 11:05Speaker 1: esthetic I was expecting it to be with these two
- 11:08Speaker 1: and it doesn't really like, you know, my question last
- 11:14Speaker 1: episode was about how does she have this ability and
- 11:19Speaker 1: whether or not it's related to the devil fruit power
- 11:22Speaker 1: or if it's a separate thing or what. And I
- 11:26Speaker 1: can't tell if these are just clouds that she like
- 11:29Speaker 1: brought to life somehow. But even if they are, how
- 11:34Speaker 1: is it that they are able to do what they do,
- 11:39Speaker 1: which is apparently like create another entire storms. There's just
- 11:45Speaker 1: a lot about Big Mom's power that feels so vague
- 11:51Speaker 1: and broad as to be almost unlimited in what she
- 11:56Speaker 1: can actually affect. And so I'm looking, I think, in
- 12:02Speaker 1: my mind for the edges. You know, there's a part
- 12:05Speaker 1: of me that is trying to find the boundary of
- 12:08Speaker 1: like what is too much for her when and also
- 12:11Speaker 1: what causes these like these times where she just dissolves
- 12:15Speaker 1: into a horrible craving. I'm looking for some kind of
- 12:20Speaker 1: weakness and some kind of limitation, and I just don't
- 12:26Speaker 1: feel like I have a very good sense of either
- 12:28Speaker 1: one of those things. And that's not necessarily a criticism
- 12:31Speaker 1: because those that information may be coming. It's just me
- 12:35Speaker 1: acknowledging that, like right now, I think that's why I
- 12:38Speaker 1: keep asking these questions is just like everything I find
- 12:42Speaker 1: out about Big Mom, it makes her seem even more powerful.
- 12:46Speaker 2: So what.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Is the limit for her? You know? So yeah, and
- 12:53Speaker 1: we have everybody like on the island looking around and
- 12:56Speaker 1: being like, oh shit, a storm. That must mean Big
- 12:59Speaker 1: Mom is really mad. And then we go to Sanji,
- 13:04Speaker 1: who is once again just like in the depths of
- 13:10Speaker 1: despair in the carriage, and we get an interesting sequence
- 13:16Speaker 1: here for me where his brothers are like talking about
- 13:21Speaker 1: all of these people that are coming to the wedding.
- 13:25Speaker 1: And this is one of those times that I would
- 13:29Speaker 1: love a spreadsheet, even though I do not think it's
- 13:33Speaker 1: really necessary. But there are a few different folks introduced
- 13:44Speaker 1: in this section. So there's a guy, there's a guy
- 13:54Speaker 1: who's like a cream monster. You guys know what I'm thinking,
- 14:08Speaker 1: and I'm not even going to say it, but it's
- 14:10Speaker 1: just very upsetting. I don't like this at all. And
- 14:17Speaker 1: I also don't really get what even his power like means.
- 14:25Speaker 1: For Cracker, he makes biscuit soldiers, and I may have
- 14:29Speaker 1: my quibbles with the names, but you know, it makes
- 14:35Speaker 1: sense the material that he makes and his name and
- 14:38Speaker 1: the devil fruit, he ate, and all of that go together.
- 14:43Speaker 1: This cream monster dude, he burns loofy later. And that
- 14:52Speaker 1: is the part that had me really drawn up short,
- 14:55Speaker 1: going wait what, because I don't understand how that is
- 15:02Speaker 1: the result of just like it's supposed to be that
- 15:06Speaker 1: he is sweet cream, right, so sweet cream. You can
- 15:13Speaker 1: interpret that a number of different ways. There's also the
- 15:15Speaker 1: possibility of like a translation issue, and that means something
- 15:20Speaker 1: slightly different for Japanese desserts than it means for American desserts.
- 15:24Speaker 1: You know, when I think of sweet cream, instantly, I'm
- 15:29Speaker 1: thinking of like cremunglaze, which is basically the equivalent of
- 15:36Speaker 1: a vanilla pudding, but without as much cornstarch in it,
- 15:39Speaker 1: so it doesn't thicken to that texture. It's porrible, but
- 15:46Speaker 1: it's got the same base to it. And that is
- 15:52Speaker 1: never served hot. There is not a single cream dessert
- 16:02Speaker 1: that I can think of that's served hot. There's not
- 16:06Speaker 1: a cream like accompaniment to a dessert that I can
- 16:13Speaker 1: think of that is served hot. You have ice cream,
- 16:17Speaker 1: you have whipped cream, you have cremonglaise sauce, you have
- 16:25Speaker 1: like custard or Bavarian cream, any like any of these
- 16:32Speaker 1: is chilled. That's the whole thing with dairy is that
- 16:36Speaker 1: you use dairy as the base for these desserts because
- 16:38Speaker 1: when they are chilled, they hold their shape a lot
- 16:41Speaker 1: of the time and they become thicker. So the fact
- 16:45Speaker 1: that this guy is like a cream based power but
- 16:50Speaker 1: he burns doesn't work for me at all in my head.
- 16:55Speaker 1: It's just completely like arbitrary, and I really I wish
- 17:00Speaker 1: it was something that made more sense to me because
- 17:02Speaker 1: I'm not getting why this is the way that it works.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Florian says, maybe because of crembrewlay, where you torch the topping.
- 17:13Speaker 1: But look, I know that I'm getting fixated on the
- 17:16Speaker 1: wrong things here, guys, but you know how I am,
- 17:17Speaker 1: and I just have to tell it. The point of
- 17:20Speaker 1: crembrewlay is that it is not hot. You torch the
- 17:25Speaker 1: top and do it very carefully to make sure the
- 17:29Speaker 1: rest of it doesn't get hot, because if it does,
- 17:33Speaker 1: that will result in the top not crisping up enough
- 17:36Speaker 1: and it won't stay in the texture that you need
- 17:40Speaker 1: to shatter it and get that really wonderful contrast. So
- 17:46Speaker 1: crembrewlay is also explicitly served cold, and the torching is
- 17:52Speaker 1: done to the sugar. It is not done to the
- 17:55Speaker 1: breulay it's done well the brula means, you know what
- 17:58Speaker 1: I'm saying, it's done to the sugar on top, which
- 18:02Speaker 1: is separate from the custard itself. So even that it
- 18:08Speaker 1: just doesn't work. And there's a line, and again it
- 18:12Speaker 1: may be a translation issue, but when he starts fighting
- 18:15Speaker 1: Lufy later, he's yelling at him sweet cream is always
- 18:19Speaker 1: at its best when it's served piping hot. And I'm
- 18:22Speaker 1: just like, nobody thinks that, what do you even mean
- 18:26Speaker 1: give me one example of that ever being true? And
- 18:28Speaker 1: I know it's supposed to be. Just like this line
- 18:31Speaker 1: that he says to explain what his power does. I
- 18:33Speaker 1: get it. But like, there are just a lot of
- 18:37Speaker 1: different ways that you could play something like this, Like
- 18:41Speaker 1: you could have him be, for example, like a tea
- 18:47Speaker 1: or hot coco monster, something that is served hot coffee.
- 18:52Speaker 1: You know, if you're gonna have it be anything that,
- 18:55Speaker 1: if it's going to be a heat based power, there's
- 18:58Speaker 1: a million foods, sweet foods that you could choose from
- 19:03Speaker 1: in order to make this go together, And they choose
- 19:06Speaker 1: something that's just explicitly wrong to me. Florian says, I
- 19:15Speaker 1: always thought he was to be marshmallows. That's interesting. That's
- 19:21Speaker 1: not cream at all. I don't think marshmallows contain any
- 19:25Speaker 1: dairy if I'm not mistaken. I think it's just like
- 19:28Speaker 1: traditionally there's often egg whites, and then of course gelatine,
- 19:34Speaker 1: which is part of why they're not vegan a lot
- 19:37Speaker 1: of the time. But that if it's if he is
- 19:41Speaker 1: supposed to be a marshmallow, it might explain more why
- 19:46Speaker 1: he like why it's a heat thing. But also that's
- 19:49Speaker 1: not cream, so that may be a translation thing. I
- 19:55Speaker 1: don't know. If he is supposed to be marshmallows. I'll
- 19:58Speaker 1: say this that his this design, I feel like, is
- 20:04Speaker 1: like it doesn't really give that look so much to me,
- 20:09Speaker 1: but it's difficult for me to not think of the
- 20:12Speaker 1: staypuffed marshmallow man, So I know that's also influencing what
- 20:17Speaker 1: I would be expecting from a guy with a cream power. Now,
- 20:25Speaker 1: this dude, I'm looking at him because I've sort of
- 20:29Speaker 1: paused at the part where all of these other people
- 20:31Speaker 1: get introduced, and I'm trying to make sense of what
- 20:36Speaker 1: the rest of his outfit looks like, and maybe that
- 20:40Speaker 1: maybe it being a marshmallow would make sense. He's got
- 20:43Speaker 1: this like pink bow in the midst of his weird
- 20:46Speaker 1: cream beard, and I'm not getting what's going on there,
- 20:52Speaker 1: but as far as I can tell, out of like
- 20:55Speaker 1: the folks who are introduced as Henchman, like top tier
- 21:01Speaker 1: Henchman in this episode, he's the only one that's got
- 21:04Speaker 1: another explicitly food based attack. And the one thing I'll say,
- 21:12Speaker 1: even though I think that like the choices in his
- 21:15Speaker 1: designs and the way his power seems to work don't
- 21:18Speaker 1: make sense to me, the one thing I will say
- 21:20Speaker 1: is the fact that it's a burn as a result
- 21:23Speaker 1: is nice because this means that just eating him isn't
- 21:28Speaker 1: something that Lufy can do. We aren't going to be
- 21:30Speaker 1: able to just run back to that as an option
- 21:34Speaker 1: to fight him, especially considering that Lufy's on a hunger
- 21:37Speaker 1: strike right now. So he even like turns over onto
- 21:40Speaker 1: his face when he finds out that the rain is
- 21:43Speaker 1: syrup because he is determined to not eat any of that.
- 21:47Speaker 1: And yeah, I'm assuming that, like if it burns Lufy's
- 21:50Speaker 1: skin like that, that it's probably too hot for him
- 21:53Speaker 1: to eat. And although you know it's loofy, I don't
- 21:57Speaker 1: know how much that would even stop him. But let's
- 22:00Speaker 1: talk about some of the other people here, guys, and
- 22:02Speaker 1: you're gonna need to help me out with their names,
- 22:04Speaker 1: because like, I don't remember them at all, and I'm
- 22:07Speaker 1: probably just gonna be calling them the things that I
- 22:09Speaker 1: make up, like cream Monster. Then there's this woman that
- 22:12Speaker 1: I'm just going to call Big Hat, and honestly, she
- 22:15Speaker 1: has a ratus design I feel like top five of
- 22:19Speaker 1: one piece. She is so cool looking. She has this
- 22:23Speaker 1: very elegantly fish tailed style, pale blue dress with like
- 22:29Speaker 1: a hip sash and a very long neck, although not
- 22:33Speaker 1: as long as some of the other folks that we
- 22:35Speaker 1: see in this grouping, and she has long waist length
- 22:41Speaker 1: blue hair, and her hat is almost as wide as
- 22:49Speaker 1: she is tall and is perfectly flat brimmed. There is
- 22:54Speaker 1: no curve or flounce or anything to it, and it's
- 22:59Speaker 1: just got a sort of like big beads or puffballs
- 23:03Speaker 1: or something running around the headpiece. But other than that,
- 23:09Speaker 1: it's a pretty plain hat. And I just she looks
- 23:14Speaker 1: like a tall, skinny, elegant mushroom and I really enjoy
- 23:21Speaker 1: her overall look. And then later her vibe is genuinely
- 23:27Speaker 1: pretty scary, like there's something about her that is upsetting.
- 23:37Speaker 1: She faces off with Boumb eventually, and unsurprisingly, everybody who
- 23:47Speaker 1: is you know, a thinking person who is on Big
- 23:50Speaker 1: Mom's side basically sees what the homies have done as
- 23:56Speaker 1: a fundamental betrayal, and the home are genuinely like, but
- 24:04Speaker 1: we did what we had to do, and it's just no,
- 24:10Speaker 1: you didn't. You didn't have to do any of this.
- 24:14Speaker 1: But you know, I saw it coming that they were
- 24:17Speaker 1: going to be blamed, of course, and there's a part
- 24:19Speaker 1: of them I think that also saw it coming. If
- 24:22Speaker 1: we're being honest, they're not terribly surprised by this result.
- 24:27Speaker 1: It's just that they feel like their hands were tied.
- 24:31Speaker 1: So she goes up to Boum and she pulls her
- 24:38Speaker 1: sword and, like I want to say, just sort of
- 24:43Speaker 1: lays it against his nose because it's not really a strike.
- 24:48Speaker 1: It's almost like when you're cutting a cake and you're
- 24:54Speaker 1: really trying to get the sections even, so you just
- 24:57Speaker 1: lay the blade gently on the top to make like
- 25:00Speaker 1: a dent, and that way you can, like you know,
- 25:03Speaker 1: mark the lines where you're going to cut first and
- 25:06Speaker 1: make sure that it's all even. It's got that kind
- 25:08Speaker 1: of feel to it. Except that she presses and slowly
- 25:17Speaker 1: begins to push the blade into bomb. I'm sorry, that
- 25:24Speaker 1: is fucking terrifying. It's just there. I don't think I
- 25:29Speaker 1: have come across this sort of thing. I have. I
- 25:36Speaker 1: have seen characters that like to torture, and she says,
- 25:42Speaker 1: I want to make their deaths as painful as possible.
- 25:47Speaker 1: So in the end it that is what this is.
- 25:50Speaker 1: But it feels different when it's like torture is going
- 25:58Speaker 1: to be a separate thing and then events I'll kill
- 26:01Speaker 1: you or you'll die of it, versus I am going
- 26:04Speaker 1: to kill you, and the method by which you I
- 26:07Speaker 1: will kill you is just going to be the end
- 26:10Speaker 1: result of what I start doing here. I won't change
- 26:12Speaker 1: my method. I won't, you know what I mean. There's
- 26:14Speaker 1: just something like really different about this approach that makes
- 26:21Speaker 1: it fucking terrifying. And it's a really like oh, Florian
- 26:30Speaker 1: says amand is her name? It means almond in French.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Eww interesting, Okay, thank you. There's there's also like an
- 26:39Speaker 1: aspect of this that I really like when in one piece,
- 26:47Speaker 1: the way that the storytelling has to work a lot
- 26:50Speaker 1: of the time is somebody winds up in a corner
- 26:55Speaker 1: and they are in a bad way, and we think
- 26:59Speaker 1: that they are about to be killed, and they are
- 27:03Speaker 1: rescued somehow, and that's just storytelling, right, But sometimes the
- 27:13Speaker 1: fact that the person is still alive and not dead
- 27:16Speaker 1: by the time their friends come to rescue them, it
- 27:20Speaker 1: can feel really, really contrived that that person is still alive.
- 27:25Speaker 1: This is not just a one piece problem. This is
- 27:27Speaker 1: a problem in storytelling all the time. Is why would
- 27:32Speaker 1: the villain keep their enemy alive long enough for them
- 27:36Speaker 1: to be rescued or to escape? And there's various ways
- 27:42Speaker 1: that you can answer this question. A lot of the time,
- 27:47Speaker 1: what we choose is the villain hates their enemy so
- 27:51Speaker 1: much that they want to torture them first. There are
- 27:55Speaker 1: also the James Bond, well, I'm putting you into an
- 27:59Speaker 1: easy escapeable situation involving an overly elaborate and exotic death,
- 28:04Speaker 1: and that's just sort of an ego thing. In that case,
- 28:07Speaker 1: it's like, partially, I hate you so much, James Bond,
- 28:10Speaker 1: and it's also partially I'm a super genius and you're
- 28:13Speaker 1: going to see the clever way I've devised for you
- 28:16Speaker 1: to die. And then there are times where it feels
- 28:24Speaker 1: like they barely are able to explain it, and they
- 28:27Speaker 1: kind of don't. And when I say they, I don't
- 28:30Speaker 1: mean one piece. Once again, this is just something that
- 28:32Speaker 1: happens a lot in storytelling where somebody should be dead
- 28:37Speaker 1: and they kind of there's a sense that the writers
- 28:40Speaker 1: know that person should be dead and they just decide
- 28:42Speaker 1: to ignore it. Here with Amnd being like I'm going
- 28:49Speaker 1: to kill you really slowly, this is simultaneously really intimidating
- 28:58Speaker 1: and frightening and also an excellent way to make it
- 29:02Speaker 1: that somebody remains alive long enough to be rescued, and
- 29:06Speaker 1: you don't feel complacent about them remaining alive long enough
- 29:11Speaker 1: to be rescued because they are still going to be
- 29:14Speaker 1: in great pain. It's still going to be bad for
- 29:16Speaker 1: them the whole time until they're rescued. The other way
- 29:21Speaker 1: that I have seen this done, which I really liked,
- 29:24Speaker 1: even though saying I liked it because it's a torture
- 29:26Speaker 1: scene is like a weird thing to say. But I'm
- 29:27Speaker 1: covering True Blood as a patron's only show with Miles,
- 29:32Speaker 1: and there was a scene recently where Marina is torturing
- 29:37Speaker 1: Bill and Bill should be dead. She was given the
- 29:41Speaker 1: explicit order to kill him, and she's intending to kill him. However,
- 29:47Speaker 1: she is in love with him, and even though she's
- 29:50Speaker 1: angry at him and a part of her wants him dead,
- 29:56Speaker 1: she also doesn't want to let go of him because
- 29:59Speaker 1: she's in love with me him, and so she draws
- 30:02Speaker 1: out his death for her own personal, selfish reasons by
- 30:07Speaker 1: torturing him so that she doesn't have to lose him,
- 30:11Speaker 1: which I think makes a lot of sense, and it's
- 30:14Speaker 1: like a twisted way to look at things, but it
- 30:17Speaker 1: makes sense for who she is, and it also makes
- 30:19Speaker 1: it that him getting rescued. There's a sense of logic
- 30:23Speaker 1: to that for me, you know. Seraphim says, this is
- 30:29Speaker 1: why villains need to read the Evil Overlord List. Don't
- 30:32Speaker 1: interrogate your foe in your headquarters, do it in some
- 30:35Speaker 1: cheap motel at the edge of your territory. Then put
- 30:37Speaker 1: a bullet in their head. This is the thing, and
- 30:39Speaker 1: that's part of like, that's something that I kind of
- 30:42Speaker 1: enjoy about certain properties that will have their baddies be
- 30:48Speaker 1: much more ruthless and much more to the point about stuff.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Because when somebody's about their business and you know that
- 30:55Speaker 1: they don't like fuck around with all of this extra ceremony,
- 31:00Speaker 1: it just makes it seem like our hero is in
- 31:04Speaker 1: greater danger and it ups the stakes, and it also
- 31:09Speaker 1: makes every attempt on our hero's life feel a lot
- 31:12Speaker 1: more serious, hopefully, because this is not some half hearted
- 31:17Speaker 1: like you don't hurt him, I want to see him,
- 31:21Speaker 1: bring him to me. It's not that sort of thing
- 31:23Speaker 1: at all. But you just don't encounter that a lot
- 31:29Speaker 1: because it's harder to write, frankly, it's harder to make
- 31:34Speaker 1: it that there's a very competent, direct, no nonsense villain
- 31:39Speaker 1: that somehow our hero manages to escape but has like
- 31:45Speaker 1: a close call, because that's really where a lot of
- 31:48Speaker 1: the excitement comes from, is that our hero winds up
- 31:50Speaker 1: in a spot where they are You think that they
- 31:53Speaker 1: are got, and they are it turns out not God,
- 31:57Speaker 1: so how do you do it? So anyway, I really
- 32:02Speaker 1: enjoy them on for this reason, and I find her
- 32:05Speaker 1: truly scary. And she fucking cuts Balum in half down
- 32:12Speaker 1: the middle of his face like a fucking hot dog bun.
- 32:16Speaker 1: It's awful. Like granted, bomb doesn't bleed right because he's
- 32:23Speaker 1: a tree, so this could have been like way more
- 32:26Speaker 1: horrible and I'm probably going to see it be more horrible,
- 32:30Speaker 1: but I think it's best to start it off with
- 32:35Speaker 1: a tree because otherwise I don't think I could handle it.
- 32:38Speaker 1: It'd be very upsetting. There's like I have a weird
- 32:44Speaker 1: threshold when it comes to cartoon violence. You would think
- 32:49Speaker 1: that it being cartoonish would like make things easier to bear,
- 32:55Speaker 1: and sometimes it definitely does. This show, I never really
- 32:58Speaker 1: have any problem with it, but I've been watching because
- 33:02Speaker 1: it's spooky season right now. My husband every spooky season
- 33:07Speaker 1: wants to go through all of the Simpson's Treehouse of
- 33:11Speaker 1: Horror episodes, and some of those are so gory, and
- 33:16Speaker 1: you would think it being a cartoon would make it
- 33:19Speaker 1: like not hit. Nope, it's still really gross and awful.
- 33:26Speaker 1: It's still very very upsetting, you know. So Okay, we've
- 33:32Speaker 1: got her. We also have a woman in a mini dress.
- 33:36Speaker 1: It's like a mini red dress with matching gloves and
- 33:40Speaker 1: I think like knee boots, and she has a huge
- 33:45Speaker 1: cape I want to say of what looks like purple feathers.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Her outfit is actually extremely simple for this show. It's
- 33:55Speaker 1: like high impact and really distinctive. So it does the
- 34:00Speaker 1: job of making her stand out and you know who
- 34:04Speaker 1: you're looking at. But overall, there's not a lot of
- 34:07Speaker 1: the extras with her that there are with certain characters.
- 34:11Speaker 1: And she winds up fighting Nami later and like flat
- 34:16Speaker 1: out admits eventually, Oh, you really didn't look like much,
- 34:19Speaker 1: so I didn't take you very seriously, and I guess
- 34:21Speaker 1: that was a mistake. There's also this guys. There's enough
- 34:33Speaker 1: of these different people that I'm like trying to go
- 34:36Speaker 1: through it and stop. And there was a group of
- 34:39Speaker 1: them on the screen, but there's enough of them that
- 34:41Speaker 1: some of them are standing in front of the other,
- 34:43Speaker 1: So I'm trying to find a moment where each of
- 34:46Speaker 1: them is on screen separately and that way I can describe.
- 34:49Speaker 1: There there's the one guy who's really big and has
- 34:53Speaker 1: like a woman who's kneeling on his shoulder. There are
- 34:58Speaker 1: these long neck yes, and it's a woman with long
- 35:03Speaker 1: kind of indigo hair and a guy with like black hair,
- 35:07Speaker 1: and they have what look like halbirds I guess you
- 35:10Speaker 1: would call them. And then there's the dude with the
- 35:17Speaker 1: suit that's got like a skeleton painted on it, and
- 35:22Speaker 1: he also has a kind of skeleton face painted on
- 35:27Speaker 1: his uh, like actual skin. Oh, right here comes the
- 35:34Speaker 1: part where they say their names. Bobin the Disposer. Okay, everybody,
- 35:42Speaker 1: what the fuck? What the fuck is with Bobin the Disposer.
- 35:48Speaker 1: I have a lot of questions about this one. Okay,
- 35:52Speaker 1: this dude is wearing this like it's just like a
- 35:59Speaker 1: scrap of fabric with some eyes on it and a
- 36:02Speaker 1: cutout for the nose and a total perfect circle cut
- 36:06Speaker 1: out for the mouth. It is honestly almost not even
- 36:15Speaker 1: a mask. It's like and this the effect is somehow
- 36:22Speaker 1: so disturbing. It's so weird to me how effective this
- 36:28Speaker 1: nothing mask even is. I don't know why it bothers
- 36:31Speaker 1: me so much, but it fucking does. And then later
- 36:34Speaker 1: the effect that he has is he's like coming up
- 36:38Speaker 1: to Loofy and I can't remember he's saying something softly,
- 36:42Speaker 1: and Loofy turns and looks at him and almost instantly
- 36:47Speaker 1: falls down asleep. It's like the it's like the whole
- 36:51Speaker 1: thing is slowed down so that we can see it happen,
- 36:54Speaker 1: but you get the impression that that happened within about
- 36:56Speaker 1: three seconds. And I don't like anytime somebody has a
- 37:02Speaker 1: power that seems to work exactly the way it's intended
- 37:06Speaker 1: on Loofy. It always upsets me. Loufy is supposed to
- 37:09Speaker 1: be my guy, who's the exception to the rules and
- 37:12Speaker 1: who somehow doesn't get bothered by things or is immune
- 37:17Speaker 1: to them, whatever. So whenever we have somebody who rolls
- 37:21Speaker 1: up and they have a weapon that they use on everybody,
- 37:24Speaker 1: and everybody turns out to include Loofy, I resent it deeply.
- 37:29Speaker 1: I'm always just like, what, No, not Loofy. He's not
- 37:32Speaker 1: fucking proll like everybody else apparently he is. He just
- 37:37Speaker 1: goes down like a fucking sack of wet sand and
- 37:40Speaker 1: it is awful to see. Let's see amand the mad moistsel. Okay, guys,
- 37:49Speaker 1: let me look up Moisel. I forgot that she also
- 37:52Speaker 1: has that like awesome choker and the three hearts going
- 37:57Speaker 1: up her throat. Her design is just really cool. My
- 38:01Speaker 1: cell can mean savior as a given name of Hebrew origin,
- 38:06Speaker 1: but is more commonly a variant of the French word mademoiselle,
- 38:10Speaker 1: which traditionally means miss or young lady. Okay, that makes sense,
- 38:17Speaker 1: and she's smoking a cigarette too, great, just fucking flawless design.
- 38:25Speaker 1: I love her montd'or the scribe. This one confuses me.
- 38:34Speaker 1: The others, you know, we have some great designs. We
- 38:37Speaker 1: have one that I find disturbing, and this one's just
- 38:39Speaker 1: really weird. Where Mont d'Or is he's wearing that it's
- 38:44Speaker 1: and when I say a suit, I mean genuinely it
- 38:47Speaker 1: looks like a regular old pant suit that is painted
- 38:53Speaker 1: with a super basic skeleton design, like you would wear Halloween.
- 39:00Speaker 1: And there's something to his face that is sort of
- 39:04Speaker 1: giving Scarecrow a little bit. I think it's the way
- 39:07Speaker 1: that his hair sticks out, because it's the hair in
- 39:11Speaker 1: the show. You guys know, can be really weird and
- 39:13Speaker 1: it can sometimes be like is that hair or is
- 39:16Speaker 1: it a hat or is it a scarf or what?
- 39:19Speaker 1: And his hair has like square ends that stick out,
- 39:22Speaker 1: and it gives sort of an impression of being like
- 39:25Speaker 1: clumps of hay. His face is painted white. The nose, though,
- 39:31Speaker 1: is really red, and for a second I was thinking,
- 39:35Speaker 1: is this like a carrot, like a like a snowman?
- 39:39Speaker 1: But I think maybe it's just supposed to be that,
- 39:42Speaker 1: Like his nose is simply painted that color, and he's
- 39:46Speaker 1: wearing a sort of fedora like hat. The woman who
- 39:52Speaker 1: is in the uh purple feather thing she has black
- 39:58Speaker 1: devil horns as well, which I forgot to mention. And
- 40:01Speaker 1: then there is a guy who's got two guns, one
- 40:04Speaker 1: over each shoulder, and he's sort of hunched. And they
- 40:08Speaker 1: get to a point because this is like all being
- 40:13Speaker 1: presented from the perspective of Soanji in the carriage with
- 40:16Speaker 1: his brothers who are mentioning a lot of people by name,
- 40:20Speaker 1: and they get to a point where they stop introducing
- 40:25Speaker 1: everybody and they just say something like, I wonder how
- 40:28Speaker 1: much all of these bounties add up to. So we
- 40:31Speaker 1: get to see that, like, this is a really tough
- 40:36Speaker 1: group of people who are notorious, you know, Saraphim says,
- 40:43Speaker 1: and these are all big mom's kids. Oh, I didn't
- 40:47Speaker 1: realize that. Okay, that makes sense, Florian says. Montdor is
- 40:52Speaker 1: a type of cheese. Ew I didn't know that. That
- 40:57Speaker 1: doesn't seem to like from the look of him. I
- 41:03Speaker 1: don't see that depicted in his costume from what I
- 41:06Speaker 1: can tell. And maybe I'm wrong about that, because I
- 41:09Speaker 1: just don't know what that kind of cheese looks like
- 41:12Speaker 1: or something. With you the cream dude, he looks like cream.
- 41:17Speaker 1: It's pretty clear what you look at him, what his
- 41:19Speaker 1: power is going to be He's one of those I
- 41:22Speaker 1: can't remember the name of it, but the zones are
- 41:24Speaker 1: the ones that look like animals, and then there's the
- 41:26Speaker 1: other type that looks like a substance, like they can
- 41:29Speaker 1: turn into that substance. But this dude being named after
- 41:33Speaker 1: a cheese, he's just sort of like his costume isn't
- 41:37Speaker 1: consistent in any particular direction as far as a theme,
- 41:41Speaker 1: so I cannot figure it out with him. But yeah,
- 41:45Speaker 1: this all results in when we cut back to sanjy
- 41:50Speaker 1: a look of extreme terror on his face, and he
- 41:53Speaker 1: thinks back to Loufy making the promise that he is
- 41:57Speaker 1: not going to move from this spot. And I love
- 42:04Speaker 1: Sanji is remembering this just as his brothers are like,
- 42:08Speaker 1: not even the straw hats would be stupid enough to
- 42:11Speaker 1: try and stand up to a group of people that strong.
- 42:14Speaker 1: And you just see Sanji bow his head and be like,
- 42:16Speaker 1: oh shit, because he knows if anybody is going to
- 42:19Speaker 1: be stupid enough to do this. It is loofy because
- 42:22Speaker 1: he just doesn't back down ever, even when it's a
- 42:24Speaker 1: good idea and he should. So let's see, I'm trying
- 42:31Speaker 1: to jump ahead a little bit here. Oh I forgot
- 42:34Speaker 1: about this. You guys, there's this moment where we get
- 42:37Speaker 1: a look at like big Mama and her kids, and
- 42:43Speaker 1: you guys, there's this little girl who's got like a
- 42:46Speaker 1: stuffed animal and she wants a knife so that she
- 42:49Speaker 1: can cut her doll open, and she's mad at the
- 42:53Speaker 1: cook because the cook won't give her one, and Big
- 42:55Speaker 1: Mom's like, come on, give her a knife, and one
- 42:58Speaker 1: of her siblings there's there's either two of them or
- 43:02Speaker 1: it's just meant to be the one that's sort of
- 43:03Speaker 1: bouncing around a lot. But he says, no, no, no,
- 43:08Speaker 1: don't give her a knife because she says she just
- 43:09Speaker 1: wants to cut open her doll, but she wants to
- 43:12Speaker 1: pop our balloons. And then he says something like I
- 43:18Speaker 1: hate her and I am definitely going to kill her someday,
- 43:26Speaker 1: and Big Bomb just goes, yeah, well, you know that's
- 43:29Speaker 1: only natural, and guys, I was cracking up. It was
- 43:34Speaker 1: just I think it was the delivery of like, I'm
- 43:36Speaker 1: definitely going to try and kill her someday. It was
- 43:38Speaker 1: so casual and just said in a way that it
- 43:43Speaker 1: was said in this sort of way like I'll get
- 43:45Speaker 1: you back, you know, like a matter of fact, promise,
- 43:49Speaker 1: but just so extreme. Everyone has a couple hundred people
- 43:55Speaker 1: that they want dead. But let's hold off on the
- 43:59Speaker 1: killing for now. All right, Your big sister Pudding is
- 44:02Speaker 1: getting married tomorrow, you know, aren't you excited? And as
- 44:08Speaker 1: all of this is being announced, we pan over all
- 44:12Speaker 1: of these kids, and they are wildly different from each other.
- 44:16Speaker 1: We've got like a fairy, We've got another long neck.
- 44:19Speaker 1: We've got a dude who's like covered in bandages except
- 44:22Speaker 1: for like his eyes. There's just like a lot of weird,
- 44:27Speaker 1: you know. So she's telling them all like there's gonna
- 44:31Speaker 1: be cake, and it's gonna be a celebration, so everybody
- 44:35Speaker 1: behave basically, and they seem to get pretty excited about it.
- 44:39Speaker 1: They appear to like big Mom. They seem to be
- 44:45Speaker 1: I'll say that they're probably quite spoiled based on the
- 44:49Speaker 1: way that she's is, And there's a sense for me
- 44:54Speaker 1: of like loyalty there, and I think that they're going
- 44:58Speaker 1: to have her back. Push comes to shove, and even
- 45:01Speaker 1: though their kids they look kind of like they're probably
- 45:05Speaker 1: a problem, you know, So we'll see. Saraphim says he's
- 45:11Speaker 1: most likely not a logia and made of cream. But
- 45:15Speaker 1: more like the snot guy in dress Rosa and is
- 45:17Speaker 1: just covered in it. Okay, Seraphim says, speaking of her kids.
- 45:22Speaker 1: This never comes up in the anime, and only a
- 45:23Speaker 1: single panel in the manga shows him. But Big Mom
- 45:26Speaker 1: does canonically have a kid who is half Tontata. I
- 45:32Speaker 1: saw a little fairy with wings floating over somebody's hand.
- 45:40Speaker 1: I don't know if that person is supposed to be
- 45:43Speaker 1: half tontata. But this is very much giving, like who
- 45:47Speaker 1: fucked Hagrid's mom? And how did that even work? Kind
- 45:51Speaker 1: of energy. I you know, there just comes a point
- 45:56Speaker 1: in one Piece where you have to stop asking questions.
- 46:01Speaker 1: That's just all there is to it. So let's talk
- 46:06Speaker 1: about the conversation between Well, first, I want to talk
- 46:11Speaker 1: about a the rehearsal dinner. They sit down and they
- 46:14Speaker 1: are having like this lunch. You guys, I could not
- 46:20Speaker 1: fucking stop laughing. Everything on the table is alive. It's
- 46:25Speaker 1: a little bit inconsistent for me that everything on the
- 46:28Speaker 1: table here seems to be very excited to get eaten
- 46:32Speaker 1: and is sort of putting itself forward like are you
- 46:34Speaker 1: gonna pick me? Are you gonna pick me? But later on,
- 46:38Speaker 1: when Sanchi comes to speak to Big Mom in like
- 46:41Speaker 1: her throne room. Everything seems like it doesn't want to
- 46:44Speaker 1: be eaten and like it's upset by it. So I
- 46:47Speaker 1: don't really understand why there's such a difference from one
- 46:51Speaker 1: to the other. So I just wanted to mention that
- 46:53Speaker 1: because I don't know if there's an explanation there that
- 46:56Speaker 1: I missed, you know, But anyway, the uh what what
- 47:03Speaker 1: was so weird about this? Florian says, this gives fucked
- 47:08Speaker 1: up be our guest vibes definitely, And also they get
- 47:16Speaker 1: to a point like where they're all just that it's
- 47:19Speaker 1: it's partly, for sure a translation thing, but also I
- 47:25Speaker 1: think it's partly on purpose to just get things to
- 47:28Speaker 1: be as annoying as possible. Everything that's singing about like
- 47:33Speaker 1: what it is and which one of us do you want?
- 47:37Speaker 1: It's none of these lines like have really a rhythm
- 47:41Speaker 1: that goes together. They don't rhyme. You know, they are
- 47:46Speaker 1: singing everything, but it doesn't really feel like a song.
- 47:51Speaker 1: And then it gets to a point where they're just
- 47:53Speaker 1: singing lunchtime, lunchtime, lunchtime, lunchtime, lunchtime, lunchtime, or something like
- 48:00Speaker 1: that in the background for the whole rest of the scene.
- 48:04Speaker 1: It's just like two words and there's no change in
- 48:08Speaker 1: the tune. It kind of gets like monotonous after a bit.
- 48:13Speaker 1: And at first, everything like being alive and introducing itself
- 48:19Speaker 1: to Sanji and being like, do you want green to
- 48:20Speaker 1: your black tea? You know, I'm kind of like, oh,
- 48:23Speaker 1: this is fun. And then it gets to a point
- 48:25Speaker 1: where I'm like, oh my god, enough and Sanchi says
- 48:28Speaker 1: something like I never hate food, but I hate you. Yep,
- 48:39Speaker 1: that's exactly how I was feeling. Even the wine glasses
- 48:44Speaker 1: are alive, have little faces on them, you know, It's
- 48:48Speaker 1: just it's bonkers. And then we get during this meal
- 48:57Speaker 1: putting like hands over the note to Soanji, explaining that
- 49:03Speaker 1: she is the one who told his friends where he
- 49:06Speaker 1: is and that they were supposed to meet and everything
- 49:10Speaker 1: went wrong and so now they're here trapped by a
- 49:15Speaker 1: bunch of really powerful warriors, and she feels like it's
- 49:18Speaker 1: her fault that they're in danger, but she was trying
- 49:22Speaker 1: to help. And this leads to a really great conversation.
- 49:29Speaker 1: Pudding is so fun because she says something to him
- 49:32Speaker 1: about how like you know that she feels like she's
- 49:38Speaker 1: making this all about her and is ashamed of herself,
- 49:44Speaker 1: And I just really liked that little bit of self
- 49:47Speaker 1: awareness that like, she still kind of wants to marry Sanji,
- 49:52Speaker 1: and she is aware that that's like a little bit
- 49:55Speaker 1: fucked up to even be thinking about right now. Because
- 49:58Speaker 1: Sonji is worried about his friends and he is flipped
- 50:02Speaker 1: out and here under duress and literally being like held
- 50:06Speaker 1: with with things on his wrist that will blow his
- 50:09Speaker 1: hands off if he doesn't agree. There is a lot
- 50:14Speaker 1: here that is fucked up, and that her being like,
- 50:18Speaker 1: but I want to marry you isn't relevant. However, what
- 50:25Speaker 1: she says is like, I won't make your life a hell,
- 50:29Speaker 1: though I promise I won't if you do marry me.
- 50:34Speaker 1: And when she says like, you know, I'm so sorry,
- 50:37Speaker 1: I'm the reason that your friends are here and everything
- 50:41Speaker 1: in the end, Sanji is just very first of all,
- 50:50Speaker 1: I want I will say this too. There's no like
- 50:53Speaker 1: massive heart eyes reaction from him, like we normally get.
- 50:59Speaker 1: The way he behaved when he saw her photo never
- 51:03Speaker 1: happens again. It does happen with his brothers when they
- 51:07Speaker 1: see Pudding. Every single one of them is like god damn.
- 51:11Speaker 1: But son. She doesn't have this, and I thought that
- 51:15Speaker 1: was interesting. But yeah, after they have this conversation, he
- 51:20Speaker 1: says to her that she is his salvation and clearly
- 51:25Speaker 1: she has like really touched him with her selflessness and
- 51:28Speaker 1: her understanding, and he says, you know what, if you
- 51:36Speaker 1: will have me, I think I'm going to stop fighting
- 51:40Speaker 1: this and I would love to marry you. And that
- 51:44Speaker 1: is when he decides to go and make this deal
- 51:47Speaker 1: with Big Mom. And unfortunately for him, Loofy is completely
- 51:54Speaker 1: unaware that he is making this deal, so he's getting
- 52:00Speaker 1: All of the people in that army are unaware, so
- 52:03Speaker 1: they're just like laying into Nami and Lofy while Sanji
- 52:08Speaker 1: is making the deal for them to not be hurt.
- 52:10Speaker 1: And I do enjoy that. When Big Mom agrees to
- 52:12Speaker 1: the deal, she says something like I will ensure that
- 52:18Speaker 1: any straw Hats that are still alive are released, like
- 52:21Speaker 1: she's just sort of hedging her bets. I'm like, well,
- 52:25Speaker 1: some of them might be dead and I don't want
- 52:26Speaker 1: to be held responsible for that. I don't know how
- 52:29Speaker 1: you verify that, but you know whatever. And oh and
- 52:32Speaker 1: I also forgot to mention that there's that thing that
- 52:35Speaker 1: Sanji puts on his face to cover up the result
- 52:37Speaker 1: of being beaten up by his brothers, and he takes
- 52:40Speaker 1: that off in front of Putting so that she can
- 52:43Speaker 1: see the damage that they did. And he is very
- 52:48Speaker 1: real with her about how he didn't ever want to
- 52:50Speaker 1: be a part of this family, they don't care about him,
- 52:54Speaker 1: and just how all of this is. He's under duress
- 53:01Speaker 1: for all of it. And it was sort of funny
- 53:02Speaker 1: because I do not blame him for any of this,
- 53:06Speaker 1: by the way, but I do want to point out
- 53:08Speaker 1: that as he's talking to her about, like, I went
- 53:14Speaker 1: on this journey with friends that I love and experienced
- 53:17Speaker 1: all of these things, but now I think it's time
- 53:21Speaker 1: for me to give up my freedom, and all of
- 53:24Speaker 1: that adventure is at an end. And it's just very
- 53:28Speaker 1: much like saying to the person that you're about to marry,
- 53:32Speaker 1: I see this as a prison and I would never
- 53:36Speaker 1: do this willingly, which again it's not his fault, it's true,
- 53:40Speaker 1: but I just felt a little bad for Putting, just
- 53:44Speaker 1: you know, And that's why she ultimately says, hey, I'm
- 53:46Speaker 1: not going to make your life hell, by the way,
- 53:48Speaker 1: because he is approaching this like there is no possible
- 53:55Speaker 1: way after being married that he can be happy, which
- 53:59Speaker 1: is understandable because the whole way that this alliance is
- 54:04Speaker 1: supposed to work is that it's going to be between
- 54:09Speaker 1: Big Mom's empire and Judge's empire, so he is not
- 54:16Speaker 1: going to be allowed to like run off and be
- 54:19Speaker 1: with the straw Hats again. However, I don't know. I
- 54:27Speaker 1: guess it depends on exactly how this would work. I
- 54:33Speaker 1: really don't know how that happens. I am trying to
- 54:35Speaker 1: think how he manages to like both Mary Pudding and
- 54:40Speaker 1: get out of this obligation, and I don't I don't
- 54:45Speaker 1: see how he does. There's a part of me that
- 54:51Speaker 1: feels like maybe he could somehow Threaaten Needle and be
- 54:56Speaker 1: part of the straw Hats, But like with a strict
- 54:59Speaker 1: I can't fight anybody who's one of Big Mom's allies.
- 55:02Speaker 1: Kind of thing thrown in there. But I just don't
- 55:05Speaker 1: think that would really work, you know. Also, I don't
- 55:12Speaker 1: know if Pudding would want to go on the road,
- 55:16Speaker 1: so to speak. So if I want her to be
- 55:20Speaker 1: a straw Hat and get on the ship with them,
- 55:23Speaker 1: it just feels sort of unlikely. Is it possible that
- 55:27Speaker 1: we are going to have Sanji be separated from the
- 55:31Speaker 1: straw Hats for a while because he can't get out
- 55:34Speaker 1: of it, and that there is like the majority of
- 55:38Speaker 1: the arc is figuring that part out. Maybe that's it.
- 55:44Speaker 1: I feel like that could go either way in terms
- 55:46Speaker 1: of whether or not it's interesting to watch, you know
- 55:48Speaker 1: what I mean. But I'm just theorizing here about how
- 55:53Speaker 1: they could possibly have their cake and eat it too,
- 55:56Speaker 1: so to speak, have their whole cake. Lol. So I
- 56:02Speaker 1: just want to talk briefly to about the battle itself
- 56:06Speaker 1: that's happening, because we've talked about a lot of it
- 56:11Speaker 1: regarding the Bobbin guy sending Lufy to sleep and the
- 56:19Speaker 1: sweet Cream guy who burns Loofy and Nami. She has
- 56:26Speaker 1: a moment where she's gripped up by a bunch of them.
- 56:29Speaker 1: Later on, and when all of the homies are being
- 56:33Speaker 1: questioned as to why they betrayed Big Mom, it's revealed
- 56:37Speaker 1: about the Weaver card and she tries to tell them
- 56:41Speaker 1: Lolla gave me this because we're friends, and none of
- 56:47Speaker 1: them believes her. They all fully are just like, yeah,
- 56:50Speaker 1: get the fuck out of here, which I can't even
- 56:53Speaker 1: be mad that they don't believe her. I wouldn't either.
- 56:56Speaker 1: Let's be real, I don't think I would believe her either.
- 57:01Speaker 1: So the I'm trying to see like how this fight
- 57:06Speaker 1: can because like what Nami eventually winds up doing is
- 57:12Speaker 1: she is using her clim attack, but it's not enough, right,
- 57:18Speaker 1: Everything that she is doing is affecting the enemy, but
- 57:24Speaker 1: it's not affecting them enough to take them out completely.
- 57:32Speaker 1: And so she starts to be like, Okay, I need
- 57:36Speaker 1: something bigger, and she pulls the uh, what's the word
- 57:42Speaker 1: I want? She pulls the power of the storm that's
- 57:46Speaker 1: already raging above their heads into her own clim attack,
- 57:52Speaker 1: which is really cool. I like the idea that she
- 57:56Speaker 1: can harness that in addition to what she's doing anyway,
- 58:01Speaker 1: And I didn't really know that that was such a thing.
- 58:03Speaker 1: But I'm sorry, guys, I'm just looking at the part
- 58:07Speaker 1: where fucking boumb gets sliced the way he does. It's
- 58:11Speaker 1: just so upsetting. Oh yeah, so let's talk about this,
- 58:15Speaker 1: Like Loofy gets pulled into this other world, and I
- 58:22Speaker 1: think it's sort of meant to be like a result
- 58:27Speaker 1: of a hallucination or something. I don't know what the
- 58:32Speaker 1: fuck is going on here, guys. This was genuinely like
- 58:36Speaker 1: what are what are we doing? The way that the
- 58:39Speaker 1: animators decided to handle this was to have there be
- 58:45Speaker 1: a ton of different textures, so they're drawing with all
- 58:51Speaker 1: different kinds of mediums, and there's the look in a
- 58:55Speaker 1: lot of spots of that really distinctive line drawing style.
- 59:00Speaker 1: But then you've got almost a like pastels texture, with
- 59:07Speaker 1: things having very jagged edges and almost a sort of
- 59:12Speaker 1: space between them. I'm trying to think how to describe this.
- 59:16Speaker 1: It's just it's indistinct in a way that's really making
- 59:22Speaker 1: it clear. This is a drawing. It's specific. And when
- 59:26Speaker 1: we see Loofy getting attacked, this dude says, welcome to
- 59:32Speaker 1: the world of books. And when we pull out Lufy
- 59:36Speaker 1: is standing still and is his eyes are closed, so
- 59:43Speaker 1: this attack seems to be actually hurting him, but he
- 59:46Speaker 1: isn't where he thinks he is, and the dude in
- 59:50Speaker 1: the skeleton suit that is attacking him is literally standing
- 59:56Speaker 1: on floating open hardback books and they're kind of there's
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: extra sort of fluttering around him like bats, and he's
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: like covering above the crowd on these books as they
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: like flap open and closed and Nami is watching this
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: like what even is happening because she can see Loofy
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: flipping the fuck out, but obviously she can't see anything
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: that he is seeing. And he is getting attacked by
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: snakes and there's fire, you know, there's all kinds of things.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: So he is so distracted by this. I don't know
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: how they're getting in his head. But the soldiers, who
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: are like literal pawns, who would be no match for
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: Loofy at any other time, are able to just knock
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: him around like he's a fucking uh what do you
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: call it? What's those things that you bang on? And
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: candy comes out Pinata, That's the one I want. And
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: this like basically is the lead up to Lufy finally
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: actually getting flattened because there are two huge dudes that
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: come at him from either side and punch him and
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: crush him between their fists and he goes down and
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: it's rough. It's rough, kids, like the way that he
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: just gets defeated so handily. And Nami, throughout all of this,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: is already imprisoned. She's got her hands pinned by somebody
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: and uh so, like Loofy, he's on the ground and
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: somebody is like, there's this one particular huge guy that
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: keeps stepping on him and trying to insist that he
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: get up. I think, actually, maybe this is the Cream
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: Guy because he's got these weird nodules on his head,
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: so maybe this is him. But I thought the Cream
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: Guy's outfit was brown. He's got a similar thing with
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: the nubs on his head, though, so I don't know.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: But they're trying to pick Loofy up and he's holding
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: onto the grass and saying, I'm not moving. I told
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: him that I would be here and I'm gonna stay here,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: and this guy keeps stomping on him. At one point,
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: one of the other member I think it might be
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: amand says something like you've got to stop it or
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: you're gonna kill him, and he is not listening and
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: just stomps on Lufy one last time, and that is
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: how the episode ends, is Lufy getting knocked out bad
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: enough that he finally lets go of the grass and
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: that's the end. And it was really sad because like,
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: we don't see Lufy go down like this very often.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: He will get knocked out, you know, by something that's
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: like a big attack, but this is much more disrespectful
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: feeling and feels bullying because he's being like ganged up
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: on and just sort of fucked with in a way
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: that's really really undignified and feels humiliating. It's just it's
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: tough to watch, so but I liked it and sure
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: like it's different, you know, it has a very different
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: energy to it than a lot of the fights he's
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: been in, and I thought that was a nice change.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: So all right, well I'm gonna wrap this up. Thank
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: you guys again for hanging out with me, and thank
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: you Florian for commissioning this one, and I hope you
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: all aren't enjoying the coverage, and see you again with
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: a new episode.
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: Until then, to the Loo, motherfuckers.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: That was an unspoiled network podcast.
